Well its not like vetetables are really healthy, you cant really absorb the nutrients in them without eating adequate colesterol and saturated fat to convert plant vatimine A into retinol “absorbable vitamine A” might as well just eat some liver as a replacement for most veggies. 1/3rd of the population cant even convert beta carotenes into retinol either so 1/3rd of the population is wasting their time even eating them. Besides if you eat an unfilling salad your not even satiating yourself like fat and protien would. so you will break and eat a whole pizza later anyways.
If you are prepared, you don’t need willpower because you eliminate choice. You eliminate choice, you eliminate the responsibility of freedom, therefore you don’t worry about it. Worrying and tolerating go together. If you worry about something you are going to tolerate it. This doesn’t work long term. So, plan ahead your diet/lifestyle. I add on my food tracker the foods I’ll eat from the previous day. I don’t deviate unless i go out with friends. A sacrifice i make.
Calorie counting didn’t work with me. It didnt discourage me at all, rather i got irritated and deleted the calorie counting app.

I’m grateful for being French because I just realised I never see food adds or billboards in my part of the city or any vending machine.
And apart from kebabs we don’t have that much fast food places
but we have lots of little lunch places (bistros where you can have 3course meals like salad+ cod & ratatouille + chocolate mousse, for like 12€
or hipster/vegan cafés where you can have vegetable pies, soups, Pad Thai, etc..)
Even in stores like Monoprix or Carrefour city, the first food that you see for lunchtime at the entrance are mostly triangle sandwiches, salads, rice salads, falafel wraps, nut dispensers and fruits. If you want junk food you have to search further in the store for the snack section.
I’m also grateful for my mom for cooking everything from scratch since I was little and almost never buying processed food or even already made meals, and never buying sodas outside of events like bd parties, and never letting us go to McDonald’s more than 2x/year as kids.
I’m also grateful for the French education system for teaching us a little bit of nutrition in 6th grade
In a way there’s less merit being healthier here than in the US

Regarding the convenience thing to anyone reading this, just get a nice big bowl & fill it with ready-to-eat fruit once a week, and keep it close to the doorway entering your kitchen. It’ll be the first thing you see when you walk in, and it’ll be the easiest/most-convenient snack to have at all times.:) Bananas might be the easiest, because you don’t have to wash them, and it’s not a struggle to peel them, like it is with, say, an orange.

I started to eat every two hours since the pandemic started, but now i try to get to my lifestyle before it began. this tricks surely are pretty good. i told my parents to help me limit the junkfood to almost 0. i snack sometimes, but i rather take a fruit than a piece of chocolate. thank you for “spreading the word” when it comes to having an adequate diet.

Hey, I watched this video 4 weeks ago today, which is what kick-started my weight loss from “wanting to lose weight” to “losing weight” as well as the 7 tips video. I am very scientifically motivated, I am studying biotech as my high school major, so the evidence both for the methods and the motivation to lose weight that you gave helped immensely. I weighed myself that day, and I was a whopping 233 pounds (and I am only 6 ft tall). Even though it has only been 4 weeks, I am now down to 217 pounds. I work out every day using my homemade gym as well as a stationary bike that I got from my godparents for free when they upgraded theirs. I started by burning 300 calories a day on it, then upping that number by 50-100 each day until I found the right amount, which for me is to burn about 900-1000 calories a day. Thank you so much.
You need to look up Dr Fung and Intermittent fasting and stop over eating simply because it’s been a measly 6 hours. You need to fast for 12 hours minimum for proper body maintenance.

I love hot pockets because they are so tasty, but i end up just binging on them like 4 times a day for every meal because they are SO EASY! like literally! i just take one out of the fridge, throw it in the microwave for 2 minutes. and i’m DONE IT’S TOO EASY! if making a salad was that easy you bet your ass i would be eating them more often. but i have to take out the vegetables, and cut them down to the right size, and then throw them in a bowl with maybe some croutons and some cheese, and add some sort of low calorie vinaigrette, and it’s time consuming so if i’m in a hurry then that’s not something i can have. and it won’t be as tasty. so R.I.P my love for hot pockets if i wan’t to lose weight.

I’m a receptionist and the HR lady always puts a giant bowl of candy on my desk for everyone and it is so irritating. Then they bring u donuts every Thursday. I haven’t had a donut the past couple weeks, but sometimes if I sneak one little candy out of the bowl then I’ll eat like two or three more. This last time though I didn’t eat any, and work is the only place I get junkfood at, which is of course the place I spend at the most. I just found your channel and it is great by the way.

This is what I keep telling my mom. Eliminate will power from the equation! I can’t just eat a serving size of oreos, even if I’m aware I’m eating more. I’ll destroy that package. So I don’t buy them because I know I would eat them if they were in my house.
if you can handle spice, I recommend making your food super spicy. I never drink enough water and always eat super fast, spicy food makes me eat 4x slower and drink an extra 60-90 oz during meals.
I’ve been doing these tips for years. I find that I can easily drink a bottle of water (mine is 750 ml) with a straw within minutes, but give me a 500 ml bottle of water (bought from the store without a straw) and it could take me all day. I just find it so easy with a straw. I also would fill a gallon bottle and have it by my desk so I can refill my cup. In the summer I drink a TON (usually 7 liters) but in the winter it is usually just the 5 liters. (and I’m in Canada, so winter is cold here as well )

honestly poverty has “helped” a lot with losing weight… not because I can’t afford enough food it’s just I refuse to buy food that has no value, I feel bad wasting the little money I have on chocolate or chips. And people told me before but correct me if I’m wrong: fast food, take out and convenience food is generally cheaper in america than cooking yourself right? That isn’t the case here. Even mcdonalds is pretty expensive if you buy enough to actally feel satisfied; one mcdonalds menue already covers half of my food budget for an entire week if not more.
so yeah i think being more mindful of your money and how you spend it also helps a lot, not buying snacks in the first place certainly does.

A really helpful trick I used is not having junk food in the house. I lived alone at the time and I had one simple rule: if I wanted junk, I’d have to go out, buy it, and eat it before coming back. This included cookies, chips, etc. This meant that eating junk was usually relegated to nights out and that I stopped snacking on junk when I was busy, which was a major problem of mine. I kept fruits, cucumber and carrot at home to snack at instead.

Hi, how can you help me in designing my house which is an open plan. It is small and restangular shape house when you enter the front door you reach the living room on the left is an old brick fireplace which is not in use then few steps is my dining room and few steps the toilet on the left side and on the right side is to the kitchen entrance door next to stairs. One big thing for me keeping my habits on track and keeping my weight somewhat stable is just that preparation you’re talking about. Making it easy.
Yoyoing with my weight has been a problem since early puberty. Yeah sure we’re talking about 20 pounds max here, but I’m a small guy, that 20 pounds is enough to put me on overweight side. That 20 pounds is also EXTREMELY easy to gain. Keeping myself on track is been SO MUCH easier when I figured out around 10 homemade meals I like, which are somewhat easy to make, and I’m always ready to eat, and have ingredients for all of them availeable, of all times. Lentils, canned beans, chickpeas, pasta, rice, tomato sauce, all that basically never gets old. Cherry tomatoes and lettuce survive over week easily, meat can be freezed, carrots and potatoes stay good for easily a month. I can mix and match those and ALWAYS have a meal in less than 20 mins. Also KNOWING that I will grave something sweet from time to time, I always have bananas, clementines etc. If you get extreme chocolate graving, ofc those don’t help, but having that small “something sweet would be nice” -feeling after lunch? Works just great.
And I’m an expert what it comes to “easy solutions”. When I lived alone I had no self control, no motivation to make food for myself etc. It was easier to go and buy something ready every day. But visiting grocery store takes about 20 minutes, but ALSO requires putting clothes on, using money, leaving the house. If I have stuff even SOMEWHAT prepped, I prefer to stay home and use that 20 minutes to make the meal.
It was fun to watch this video and see all the solutions I’ve naturally fallen into, but get them aknowledged, so now I can keep doing them even more ON PURPOSE. Thank you!
Great video, but got one more hack for you, whenever you feel hungry, drink atleast 32 ounces of water, many times when people think they are hungry, they’re actually dehydrated, and many times drinking water takes away or minimally takes the edge off hunger
This morning I was so hungry and there was literally no bad food in my house so I had 1/2 an avocado, peanut butter and a banana, and cucumber salad can confirm it works

something I’ve started doing is if I overeat, I will drink a ton of green tea and I just end up peeing out all the extra calories. I know that doesn’t make sense. That you can’t just pee out food. But I swear it works. So many times I have eaten way more than I burned but because I drank so much tea the scale still went down.
a good hack also is to find a vegetable u like and make at least half ur portion that vegetable like broccoli

A note about Ghrelin, it does not rise continuously until you eat.
Even if you do not eat, after your supposed mealtime, ghrelin levels will fall. Overtime, if you continuously skip meals, ghrelin levels peak lower and lower. That’s why people who are fasting get less hungry overtime, usually the first few days are the hardest. And then when your body realises you are not eating at your usual time, it secretes less ghrelin. So you dont actually have to eat every 4 to 5 hours to stop ghrelin level from “rising too much”. It falls after that, with or without food.

Intermittent fasting goes against hack #4. I would definitely consider the benefits of IF especially since it’s good for weight loss.

I can confirm simple meals are more satisfying. This week I’ve only been eating a bowl of spaghetti, watermelon, and maybe peanuts if I want a snack. It doesn’t hurt that those are some of my favorite foods though.

A few things I didn’t get to mention (Tom threw me off 😉 1) I like to add lemon, especially in the morning, for its detoxing and pH balancing benefits 2) I like to set rewards, for example, I don’t let myself have a second cup of coffee until I’ve finished my first quart of water 3) I try to avoid mixes with artificial sweeteners because I feel like they cause me to crave sugar/carbs, but I really enjoy adding flavor with fruits, cucumber and mint…I hope this helps!!!

So, I really do try to get in a gallon of water a day and I feel so much better when I do! But, your tips don’t work for me. I drink much more if I have a large, open cup. I don’t sip my water, I chug it, around 8 ounces at a time. So, about every half hour, I drink again. I empty the cup and refill it from a jug I keep in my kitchen or office. At work, I get in extra steps going to fill my water cup. I know this goes against the science, but it seems to be the way my psyche works. And, one thing I’ve found is I’m not always successful when I try to do what someone else does; if I can make a new habit that’s sustainable over a long time, I have the most success. Oh, and keeping count is really important!

I’m a water drinker and probably drink 60 70 Oz on average a day. I do like my LA Croix type drinks so I include them in my water consumption. On hot days I drink more and on days I am more active I drink more.
One thing to be mindful of is to not drink too much. You need to keep your electrolytes in good range and more is better is not always the case. Drink to thirst is a good rule of thumb. There is no scientific evidence that we all need to drink a gallon of water for optimal health but we should drink enough and substitute water for other unhealthy drinks like soda and fruit juice.
I have also had great success losing unwanted weight doing a ketogenic diet. (80 pounds in about a year.) If you haven’t looked into the science and evidence based support of low carb eating I highly recommend it. Gary Taubes and Nina Tiecholtz (hope I spelled that right.) for some great books on nutrition and weight loss science and the history of dietary guidelines, and also Dr Jason Fung (Obesity Code, and Diabetes Code)
I’m just so happy to have found a healthy way of eating that shows great promise to help with metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and inflammation.
I’m over 50 and am healthier than in my 30’s. Wish I knew then what I’ve learned since. Lots of you tube on Keto, some I agree with others I don’t but dietdoctor.Com has great sane advice that I highly recommend to people wanting to know what this is and is it safe.

I have no problem staying hydrated I constantly refill my water bottles and keep filled bottles in the refrigerator.
It is easier for me as we grew up drinking water not sugary drinks.
However, I never use a straw as it causes wrinkles around the lips.
I believe that you drink more water with a straw. I found out yesterday that I’m expecting twins and this video just happened to be recommended for me today. I have a 24oz contigo cup with a straw. I am 1:41 minutes into the video, took 2 sips and have already drank 6oz.
Thank you for all the advice on your channel. I’m really good at drinking water during the school year (as a teacher you have to have a schedule for drinking and bathroom breaks) but summer with no routine is difficult. I am going to try your tips of using a straw and a clear container, hopefully it helps.

Hi Dawn! Great video. How do you keep the straws clean and sanitized on your water bottles? I have always avoided those with straws because I thought they aren’t easy to clean.
I used to walk quite a bit and have to get back to it because my energy level is really low now. Anyway, I used to use an app on my phone called Runtastic. It’s free (unless you want the version with bells and whistles) and it tracks where you’ve gone on the map, how many miles, how many calories you’ve used up (supposedly), changes in elevation, how long you walked… It’s nice to see where you went on the map and try to do a little more every time. You can also take pictures along the way if you want and it’s on your page with the map. Makes it easy to remember where that nice path was that went up in the hills where that big old house was (for example). If you want to run and don’t mind paying for the premium version, people will periodically cheer you on! Ha
I’m with Tom! I had to have a gallon jug. But it got SO much attention that I went to a to-go container. I only have to drink 4 and I have 100 floz of water! Great tips! They work!

I only get a break every 21/2 hours therefore making it nearly impossible to drink water during that time. We bought a SodaStream. It is a great way to get sparkling water. I love mine with a slice of lime in it.
so first. the straw. nope. I chug significatly more than I can sip. and yuck to keep clean. second. is the quart jars. yes fill them in the morning. I fill 2 with boiling water and add tea bags this morning 1 has 2 bags of raspberry tea and ginger. the other nettle leaf and dandilion. water intake with extra benefit. in the afternoon I add CALM powder to 2 more jars. in the evening I drink another jar of lemon balm and lavendar. my limit is 2 ‘spicy waters’ a day, in adition. I love water. Grew up on delisiously sweet tasting well water. my togo is a termoflask @ costco. Danya

Dawn… that’s so true about a straw. I started using one last summer and noticed I drank a lot more water! I guess my brain did think it was ‘easier’ than picking the cup up how lazy, lol! 😉
The reason you have to pee so much when you first start drinking water I like to tell my clients this analogy – it’s like taking out the garbage. If you stop taking out the garbage for your house for a month or a week or however long you’ve not been drinking enough water. When you finally decide to clean it up, you’re going to have to make more trips to take it out. Water has many functions in our body, but one of them is helping us eliminate the waste from all of our cells. So in the beginning it’s just happy to take the garbage out. And that’s one of the first things it does before it starts the repairing, is take out the trash.
I am drinking 2 to 3 liters a day. Just really trying to get this water thing down. I feel less stressed, and I feel full a lot easier too. It also helps me cut down on my diet mountain dew. I wish I had all the money I wasted on diet pills, protein powders, and all that. Do you exercise at home or do you go to a gym?

I have also found that if I get in a rut I buy a new water bottle. I know it sounds wasteful… but I really only buy one twice a year and I give my old one to my kids….. and one week at the park and there sure to lose it… lol. The more water I drink I feel like I’m retaining the water. I have had to start drinking dandelion root tea to help me actually sweat and release moisture. have you ever heard of issues like that?

This is definitely an area I need to work on. I’ve gotten the steps down, I’m eating better, and I am fitting in about 20 minutes of extra exercise each day, but water is the tough one. I set a goal of 5000 steps for this week to slowly get myself moving. It’s been great. I’ve managed to get them in every day except one! I will say I don’t like having my phone on me. That was a habit I had consciously created a couple years ago was to leave my phone on the counter. So it’s taking a bit to get used to having my phone with me. My kids are cheering me on as well. I do think I’ll work towards getting a cheap wrist tracker in the next month or so.
Drinking enough water is something I’m focusing on this year! I feel best when I drink around 80 oz. (2/3 gallon). I’ve tried a whole gallon before (for a couple of weeks) and it actually made me feel sick. I think the important thing is to just make sure to be consistently drinking enough water to feel good! You two are so cute together!
I use an app to track my water intake and it’s really helped me!

Dawn you are out of this world awesome. Thanks to you I have minimized my kitchen, kids toys, and closet. I feel so much relief and more head space. I have been considering doing something about my jeans getting tight but have not had the motivation to tackle it. I do not believe in fad diets. Being a mom of two it is hard to think about me. Something as simple as adding the Pacer app and drinking more water are great first steps. I am addicting to my Pacer app. Last night I found myself walking in front of the bathroom mirror at 10:30 pm to get to 10,000 steps. It is the small things that add up. I work in an office during the day so getting steps can be hard. I have now trained myself to get up each hour and move and walk the four flights up steps to use the restroom in the basement. I also train horses in the evening as a side job. A lot of training consists of working on the ground which helps add up steps quickly. I do not like the taste of boring water so I have purchased the MiO flavors which make water taste like Kool-Aid! Thank you for all you do and keep up the good work. North Dakota native Brittany!

G’morning to both of you! At the beginning of the week I had decided to go on the exercise glider Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Monday and Wednesday, no problem. This morning upon waking I thought I’d skip today but after watching your video I got the glider out and did what I was supposed to do. I’ve also started being more mindful of eating habits. I crave ice cold water first thing when I wake up, and all day. If there is no ice in my water bottle, I don’t have that energized feeling. Weird, huh? Imagine my happiness when I read that ice water boosts/ speeds up your metabolism. Not sure if that is accurate, but if it is, yay! Hmmm I would like to lose 20lbs, but my doctor says that I’m healthy so, not to stress over it. I totally agree with the straw idea (I honestly didn’t know it was proven!). I have a work cup and a home cup and my water intake has doubled. There is a reason it is called die-it. It must be a lifestyle change that focuses on adding more water, activity, whole foods. As soon as you mention the “I can’t have that.” you’ve sabotaged yourself. Another great motivator I’ve found is thinking of being a better role model for my kids and teaching them healthier habits. Great practical advice!
I made my step goal (modified since I’m pregnant and having hip pain) of 3000 just once this week. But I think that just checking the app frequently I’ve taken more steps that I would have. And I also frequently forget to have my phone with me so I probably took more than I know about!

My husband actually got me a smart watch for my birthday this month! Keeping track of my steps and activity has been so much more accurate. I would always forget to carry my phone around with me and shortchange myself. I’ve hit my step goal almost every day so far except for the first two days. I’m keeping my goals a little low for a couple of weeks due to only being 4 weeks out of laparoscopic surgery.

I like the information here, at least most of it. The one point I would kind of disagree on is with eating every 5 hours thing. Research has shown that fasting can change the levels of ghrelin found on someone along with the timing of the expected food. So for example, if a person does a water fast for 2-3 days, they will not progressively just get hungrier and hungrier, no instead the hunger usually reaches a point and then completely dies down as your body switches from using glucose as energy to your own body fat. BUT if you eat every 5 hours, your body does not have enough time to lower insulin levels so that you can actually get into the state of ketosis, to burn fat. So that is one of the points I would disagree with on this video, overall I really liked it. I would highly recommend doing a bit more research on fasting and how it can help not only with weight loss but pretty much everything else. Dr. Jason Fung and several others have great videos and studies explaining this. Also please look up the Minnesota Starvation study done several decades ago.
I believe if you do some more research and understanding of fasting, you will see food and weight loss, possibly in a bit different way. And it would be a great new tool in knowledge to help those people that need it if you make a video on it someday. Great work!

Drinking too much water can actually be bad for you, even kill you. If you’re drinking too much water too could be peeing out all your minerals and electrolytes causing the water to stay in your body like in your brain, heart, lungs and other places. Just make sure you just drink when your thirsty and not just to get your “gallon” of water in you. The room temp water is correct through, it’s easier for your body to hydrate your body faster, eliminating the need to drink as much.

I make my own non alcoholic moon shine. I steap 2 Tazo tea bags in Mason jar then 2 lemon ginger in another Mason jar. I add fresh lemon, honey and ACV. Once ready I add cold water. I fill up empty glass kombucha bottles with half and half of each. Yum it’s a treat!
Everytime I see a big TV in a room I wonder why the designer didn’t do something to hide or at least camouflage it. Now if it’s a media room then that’s different and it’s okay for it to be the focal point. I realize that not everyone has the budget to completely build it in and hide it but there are some simple inexpensive solutions that can make it virtually fade into the background. I’ve seen some really good ones and I wish more designers would share their ideas on how to acheive that. Hint hint!

We recently bought a vintage row house in which part of the living room is dark and it is a semi furnished house with antique wooden shelves and show cases. How can i brighten up this portion. Also planning for assent wall. Which color to choose as assent wall painting to brighten this dark portion. Most of the furniture in this room is dark Brown. kindly suggest. Thanks in advance.

My go to easy quick to have meal is brown rice nd tuna. Or a salad with chicken. I do not keep the junk food in the pantry it’s kept in a draw out of view. At work I stare at junkfood all day yet I don’t want it ( also won’t pay the price for it) nd just eat my lunch I took with me. I can have chips or chocolate next to me but still get up nd grab a salad. I always make sure to have some bagged lettuce carrot cabbage In the fridge to quick eat nd some fruit to. And some chicken. I don’t have cereal much as I don’t always keep milk on hand since it disagrees with me. And bread I hardly ever buy. Sooo. I try my best
