Do you suffer from iron deficiency anemia? How are you managing it? Share your experience in the comments below!
Cook on cast iron. You can actually get iron that way, which seems wrong but is true. I have to supplement regardless though, have always struggled with retaining it no matter what or how I eat.

I have eating iron for almost 2 months now and my doctor says I need to eat more and it makes no sense because everyday I eat iron and it isn’t fair.
You are the best iron in the whole universe… and also you are stunning..
You have given many good home remedies to avoid this problem. I too had this problem and I started my treatment with #PlanetAyurveda. Now I am fine.
I haven’t gone to the doctor, but whenever I stand up I get so dizzy. I have to wait several seconds before getting up to prevent that. I have brittle nails, and I’m always craving ice. Lately I’ve been getting headaches, too. Both sides of my family have a history of heart problems. If this isn’t an indication that I have anemia, idk what is.
Cool Video but you forgot the phytic Acid in those foods that inhibit mineral Absorption
Make sure to cook the spinach if you want its iron to be available and the oxalic acid takes a holiday:) Calcium stops the body absorbing iron so I’m not sure you’ll get the iron from the spinach or the figs but anyway they have lots and lots of other benefits

Dr. told me today that I’m producing quite less haemoglobin that’s anemia, but the same time I’ve had thalassemia since birth, that’s excess amount of iron.. So what do I really have!!!???
An anemia with excess of iron!

I have always heard soy should not be eaten unless fermented. So eating edamame not good? It effects your thyroid negatively.
I especially get subscribed your channel becoz you so beautiful loving you
When I went to Mexico I took a test there, and they said I had low iron. I came back to the US after visiting my family, I took a test here twice, they said I had low iron but that’s all they said, they just told me to eat broccoli no extra information or visits. I have felt this way about for 5 years, could it be because I started my period very early at the age of nine? I don’t know what to do, I can’t get up and I like to do sports but I get out of breath quickly. I eat meat and broccoli soup but I’m still like this. I don’t have any energy to do anything, I feel lazy and useless. I haven’t been to the doctor for this for about a few years.
The keyword with those studies is “associated” I think I’ll stick to my steaks.
It’s not like all these chronic diseases popped up in the last century because of meat, meat and fats aren’t the foods that has been recently introduced in massive amounts lately.
I found it interesting and helpful because it teaches you things you don’t know i learned alot thank you
I have a question thats been bugging me. I really like having an impossible burger now and then, but since I’ve been reading up more about iron and heme, its got me confused. Impossible is said to be totally vegan, but they extract heme from soy to give it a meaty taste.. is that bad or good? Do you know?
Me with anemia trying to figure out this nutritional world best of luck to everyone.Health is the true treasure that we keep neglecting till we get weaker.

Plant sourced iron is poorly absorbed. You need Heme iron from animals.
But, have you tried dried figs dipped in tahini? A super satisfying dessert! Thanks for the video!

Hello Alyssa this was so very educational helpful, healthy and entertaning! Thank you for being a caring and sharing person, I’m so very appreciative and grateful!
I am Indian and now that I am vegan I feel like I eat chickpeas every second day
You just need to be aware of phytates and oxalic acid, it prevents absorption of iron. Phytates are found in most beans and grains, and spinach and Swiss chard are incredibly high in oxalic acid, but cooking it helps the your body absorb a little bit more.
Peace.
Eggs are a good source of iron, protein and several other vitamins! Thanks for this video.
Thank you greatly for this valuable information. I’m sure it took a lot of research on time. Appreciate you.
Probably going to make a sandwich packed with green veggies for lunch tomorrow! Kale, Lettuce, spinach etc! I’m so lucky i’m a vegan that’s always been a fan of veggies and fruits!
Except for the oysters which I really hate. At least I love those other foods mention.
I really like this video. Informative, factual, detailed, helpful graphics, a pleasant voice. Thanks, Bestie.
I agree with you about spinach. It’s such an easy way to add greens to so many things without changing the taste. I always throw it in when I make hummus or marinara sauce.
I got this amazing cholesterol tutorial “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it) for my Dad and he has better cholesterol readings and lower blood pressure level readings. This is certainly a good quality option, he tried out different therapies but this amazing one gave him much better cholesterol level and glucose numbers, he’ll stick with them from now on..
B12 would be great. Thanks for posting this valuable information
Really enjoyed this. Not sure what you did with the Tahini prior to pouring on that delicious looking salad..Will look again but appreciate the detail from you…Thanks a lot:)
HA HA SHEETS NEW? PILLOW CASE NEW HEY HEY ALL GONE FOR UGLY 4 YEARS
Vitamin C supports the iron absorption, so try to incorporate it whenever you eat a meal high in iron like a lemon dressing or some fruit in your salad
I am anemic and I have a fast metabolism so its acc so hard to gain weight. I need to definitely research some things to help me gain weight thankyou x
Your face looks unhealthy, like sick. Under your eyes says it all.
me encanta tu canal y mas tus recetas de pancakes!! los he preparado casi todos!!
I see sprouted soy tofu and buy it most of the time. Is it just easier to digest or healthier in other ways?
Once I begin intaking more iron, how long before I am recovered?
Very very insightful. Thank you so much! Nice sense of humor!
Watched this to hopefully get my iron up so I can stop taking my pills but what sucks is that I’m a picky eater so it’s gonna be a long time till I get my iron up
With the Greens you have to remember they contain oxalate which effects how your body absorbs Iron and Calcium so make sure you take in another source of those nutrients in addition to the Spinach.
I needed this video! For a while, I was eating a vegan diet and always felt like I was getting dizzy/lightheaded and it was suggested that I was low in iron!
Very informative video.
Just found your channel through Erin On Demand!
New subbie here. Would love for us to stay connected!
A friend of mind have been consuming medicines because of the cholesterol level clinically diagnosed on him. He does not like to take seafoods therefore this was a straightforward decision for him. He started out making use of this cholesterol manual “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it). Soon after a couple of months his levels have lowered as well as the medicine are really easy to get. They just do not leave an aftertaste..
This is what concerns me about vegans and vegetarians. Not sure about now, but vegetarians used to suffer with anemia and were given pills containing meat! The fact is that our bodies have evolved to assimilate iron best from meat especially red meat. And of course protein. B-complex Vitamins and other important minerals.
I use to be very deficient in iron, being a vegan. What helped me with the diet is consuming some beef liver and red meat.
Interesting, the show Explained on Netflix aired an episode “The Future of Meat” which talks about heme iron as if it were good and necessary for our health. Wth? It left me confused for a while so it’s nice to have this cleared up.

This video was very helpful to me. I feel like I needed to watch this because I needed a full iron rich food diet.. Thank you very much bestie..
Thank you so much! My iron is low and I follow a plant based diet. Doctors always want supplements and felt really confused about nutrition information that I read. I also drink coffee and that might be depleting my iron. You are excellent at cutting through the excess information out thete.
Great, I have iron overload aches there’s literally no info for people like me what to eat:(
one simple food source will provide you with all of the iron that your body needs.
Dulse.
Dulse is a seaweed, you can buy it in bulk by the pound, and even in powder form for capsules at:
Maine Coast Sea Vegetables.
They sell the purest, organic, wild-crafted and clean sources of all sea-weeds available on the market today.
You need a ton of iron, and dulse is LOADED with iron.
Get a variety of seaweeds and take them as daily multi-vitamins and multi-mineral supplements.
Get them in powder form, get empty capsules on amazon.com and take as much as you want every day.
They are great for your health and will change your life if you are not taking them regularly.
Take them everyday, dont be scared.
Seaweeds are AMAZING healing foods that give your body what it needs.
they say we all come from the ocean, dawning from the beginning of time.
So these seaweeds have everything we are made up of in them, hence why you should take them.
you really dont need anything else for iron intake other than seaweeds, they are the highest source and in the most bioavailable form.
Taking a mixture of seaa-veggies will provide you with all of the minerals and vitamins your body needs, point blank period.
i personally love Dulse, Irish Moss, Bladderwrack and Kelp.
but there are plenty to choose from and use, make sure you use a variety of them as seaweeds contain 20x more minerals than land vegetables! amazing right!
lmao my moms always like “UR SO COLD WTF” makes sense cuz i have anemia and vitiligo
Thank you so much!:) This was very informative, Im looking foward to seeing more such vids ♡
Amazing video. So informative and interesting. Thank you. Am wondering if dried figs are higher in iron than fresh figs? And if so do you know why that would be? X
Thank you! I love your explanations! Keep those videos coming, please!
Another very excellent video! Wow! You rock! Thanks for this video! I don’t think I really know that irrtable bowl movement disease cause iron deficiency for bleeding! I may have learnt, but didn’t really register it!? Wow! My friend is suffering from celiac disease ( maybe the same affects!? Internal bleeding from it!? )& iron deficiency & she is a vegan,I’m gonna share this w/ her like I did w/ 2 others on Iron deficiency videos of yours! I know there are lots iron rich vegetables & edible plants, but it’s a bit harder to absorb from them! I used to be a vegan myself! I’m a vegetarian.I take some liquid iron as my period issues ( always heavy when I was eating meats, too! ). Thanks, again for this video!
Wow very usefull video thank u for information iam looking lots of iron video but your is awesome i like it
Chia seeds, hole or crushed? Is it possible to get the benefits from chia seeds if they are hole?
Pure bullshit. Heme iron is bad for your health and will give you cancer
Is Canker sores are also one of the symptoms? because I’m having a lots of canker sores rightnow and last week i also had 3 but after three days it was gone then after 3 days again it cameback again.
Absolute leaders for iron are spices, specially thyme and basil
I was diagnosed with it in 2014. This was a couple of years after I stopped eating red meat. I had just graduated from college and was dealing with parents’ illnesses. My doctor prescribed me 2 doses of 65mg iron with 1000mg of vitamin C. I am tired of taking this daily. I am having trouble keeping food down. I am still sluggish and I have trouble falling asleep at night. If I miss a day or two, I get dizzy spells and fall asleep in the middle of the day. I need help. What do I do about all of this?
What if you have Genetic Hemochromatosis. What can I eat then?
I’m curious what type of dried figs were shown in the video… anyone know?
Thank you for an informative video—I have subscribed to your channel. I couldn’t find the link for tahini recipes. I also checked on your blog post and under Tahini it lists details for the calcium content of oranges.
Thank you for sharing another great video. Great information.
Hi from USC ZNI! Keep going… very cool channel! Are you back in South America?
I use to eat a lot of greens and pulses etc. I was still very low in iron.
Meat and liver helped me a lot for my iron level. Tofu is no help what so ever.

Hey, thank you for this interesting video, very enjoyable to watch!
Could you do a similar video on potassium? That’d be amazing. Thanks ☺️
My sister is low in Fe, so she asked me to look for diff. foods, Thx guys good vid.
Great tips but you forgot to mention that vitamin c needs to be consumed to increase iron absorption when using plant based iron sources,
omg thank you so much for making this!!! I hope some of the people that think all vegans are anemic see this and realize there’s so many sources of plant based iron
This was really great! Thank you so much:-) this would be a really great new series for you to do where you do a specific nutrient each week or some interval. Thank you so much
Also, something very important is Vitamin C, because it increases Iron absorption!!! Foods rich in iron with a glass of lemonade are the key to overcome anemia.
Also dont rely that much on legumes (or tofu since it comes from the soy legume) as your iron source because they contain phytic acid that blocks Iron absorption, so you dont end up getting that much from it.
She said to avoid dairy products but milk is dairl product and it is on oatmeal soo…
Great info and great video. Also good to know: molasses has lots of calcium.
Bout to get a blood transfusion at 11 years old… Please wish me luck
Dudes/Dudettes, just drink some dangerously filthy pond-water!!!!!
you forget, liver, baby céréale, and méat of horse and clams
Thank you so much for this video,! I became vegan a almost a year ago, but i was mostly raw vegan, I did not like it to much because I became very weak, well I was not eating garbanzos beans, or potatoes, or too much beans in general because the iron feeds the cancer, (I have leukemia) however, I learned that iron that comes from the plants is less absorbed like you say here. Is not that a sign from God that we are made to eat mostly plants. I am so fascinated about the vegan world, it is very rich, very fun, very colorful, very tasty too and I am so pleased to find people like you. Thank you for this video Alyssa!
I’m anemic I had gotten iron infusion but my iron is back down again so you think if I eat 2 tps chia seeds with a bell pepper it will go back up?
Do herbal and spice teas also block non-heme iron absorption? And how much time before and after a meal can I have coffee without impacting absorption?
CE POU IRAQ IBANA AP FAIT OU PASSER MISERE NAN SHELTER LI YA?
Spinach is not high in iron, that’s a legend! However, there are many other vegan sources of iron missed in this video.. And You should have talked about vitamin C which is essentiel for the absorbtion of vegan iron..
I’m not managing it well. Found out i had chrons at 17 whilst addressing another health incident and had to get blood transfusions. Never had issues before. Was like all of a sudden I had a bunch of conditions so I didnt welcome the doctors information. I was also vegetarian at the time, and had been since I was 8 because raw meat freaked me out. Didn’t take the diagnosis too seriously because I hadn’t had symptoms or issues and thought till they arrive I’m fine to carry on living as before. Now I’m 27 and it’s like I’m a 50 yr old chain smoker some days. I struggle with lots of stairs and simple cleaning around my apartment, have a patch of hair that stopped growing last year so i don’t look cute without creative manipulation of my hair. My nails are brittle and everytime i stand up from laying down i feel woozy. Why now I don’t know, I was coping just fine. But I think about how long I’ve been depriving myself and what has that meant for my body. Didn’t want to get on medication but taking an iron supplement hoping this helps. 2020 has been confusing I’m crossing fingers I’m heading on an up from here
Fuck this bitch talks too fucking much just get to the fucking point
YES eggs are always good as long as they are fresh and Organic they keep you Brain tune they are packed with iron start eating those Organic ones and feel a difference in your body l eat 2eggs every day it Gives lot of energy
lentils are great and I love them so much but they have so much fiber in them which causes so much bloating:(
You can get heme iron from beets. Heme is actually responsible for the red color of beets.
Affordable and also superior quality cholesterol guide “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it). I began to employ this adhering to my personal doctor`s tips to lessen my blood cholesterol level. I took it for more than Two weeks. Certainly, this helps quite a lot! I sensed much less pain and also had become more productive everyday! I am acquiring better results on my labs..
= Maybe I’m looking for the wrong type of chia, but the ones that are sold on Amazon have virtually no iron per tbsp. 2 tbsp = 12 % daily iron. What type of chia are you referring to?
Came across your channel the other day it is awesome AF! Keep it up and keep the content rolling! Seriously, it is sooo important these days with all the pseudoscience flowing around.
My fucking heart hurts and my parents still don’t bring me to the hospital
Another great source of iron is a cast iron skillet. I wal always anemic and my doctor told me that anemia is a modern ailment. He said to buy a cast iron skillet and cook in it at least 3 times a week. It took about 3 months before I was no longer anemic. I haven’t been anemic in about 6 years.
They clean UP CORONA for virus and gray banquet FULL of virus very old blanquett god
Anyone if you want to watch my channel the name of the channel is Matthew Chimhondo
This was really useful! Would love love love to see some iron pumped recipes
Spirulina!! Also vitamin C helps absorb the plant based iron foods!
I got anaemia just a couple of month before and just after that I started to recover my blood lost… Here what I am eating:-
*soyabeand
*kidney
*red meat
*beetroot
*tomatoes
*red kidney beans
*chia seeds
*lemons
*amarnath leaves
*Chickpeas
*ground peas
It’s also important to note not everyone does well with only non-heme iron. I did ok for a few years and even had two babies but after a while, even while eating a ton of plant-based sources of iron. not only was my digestion suffering but my iron (and Q10 among other things) got too low and no supplement or plant-based source of iron would do the trick. And I used to be someone who thought that if you had iron issues as a vegan you were just “doing it wrong”. At first my levels were great, but not long term.
I think i have low iron because of im dizzy when i get up fast, random chest pains and headaches. Also im sometimes very tired even though i sleep 8 hours a day
I am only 14. I get so dizzy and feel so weak even from walking up the stairs. I am also fairly skinny. Although I didn’t yet go to the doctor because of Covid-19, anemia runs in my family and I am pretty sure I have it.
I just got results of blood test and turns out I have iron poisoning, is dangerous, cause our bodies can’t get rid of iron, so be careful guys
Did you find this video helpful or interesting? Do you know any other iron-rich foods that you feel the need to share? We encourage you to leave a comment below to help us keep the conversation going, and as always, feel free to share this video with anyone who you think might enjoy it.
Hi Gil a question for you as a researcher. How would the studies you cited isolate the effect of heme-iron alone when comparing heme vs. non-heme iron’s effect on heart desease and cancer? I mean what if the cancer (or heart disease) promoting factor in meat is something else, say saturated fat? This is confusing especially since heme-iron is only found in meats as far as I know, so how would they associate those diseases to heme iron particularly? My point is how do they make sure that heme iron is not getting a bad rap for issues that are actually outcome of saturated fat, etc. found in meats?
Is this why after I get up from laying down for to long I feel dizzy?
Pumpkin seeds contains 3.3mg in 100g. Please correct in your video.
If you can find it, throw a couple of curry leaves in any kind of Indian food. The iron seeps into your food even if you find the leaves themselves to be too bitter.
I watched your kitchen video and loved the tea storage idea. I’m ordering those today. But your nuts and nut butters should be kept in the refrigerator so they don’t go rancid.
How’s your iron intake been? Would you consider trying any of these foods? If you enjoyed this video, please give it a like and share it with your friends!

For the past 2 weeks I’ve been moving towards a more whole-food, plant-based diet for health reasons. I’ve been watching a lot of the usual youtube channels (several of which have excellent information), but only just discovered yours. I am impressed by how simply and clearly you present good information! Entertaining, straightforward, objective, accurate…thanks.

I have been taking iron tablets for some time. Now every time I take Viagra I point north.
Thank you so much for this video. One of my main concerns when changing my diet to a vegetarian one, has been the iron intake and absorption that all my meat-lover friends were warning me about. Do you already have a video about vitamin B12 (new subscriber here) or would you please make one to understand it better? Thanks again.
I’m diagnosed but ever since covid, my medicine isn’t available and my symptoms have gotten much worse
Thank you so much! I am trying to get off iron supplements so appreciate all the research
Hello Gil! Just heard you interviewed on the Ian Cramer podcast. Just have to say, I love how objective you were. Sometimes in the whole foods plant based and vegan circles people can get a little too sure about their opinions and unwilling to acknowledge that not all evidence points in their favor 100 % of the time. I appreciated how you seem to take opposing views seriously and stay factual. Good luck with the new (I think?) channel! I know I’ll be tuning in at least 😉
Hi ty! I really like your video. So nice and cool pops up
Does carob molasses also has 7 mg? I have a jar of it currently. Could I use it to sweeten my tea without losing nutrients?
Burdock root tincture (at vitamin shoppe) has higher iron than any plants!!
together with protein, iron is one of the biggest myths when it comes to nutrition, so let’s cover the basics!!
