Also, astaxanthin is taken by mouth to prevent sunburn, to improve sleep, and for carpal tunnel syndrome, dyspepsia, male infertility, symptoms of menopause, and rheumatoid arthritis. Astaxanthin.Astaxanthin has powerful UV-blocking properties that help protect the fish eggs from sun-related damage. Taking astaxanthin can also provide humans with similar health benefits. As a side benefit, the antioxidant has also been shown to reduce wrinkles, and to improve skin moisture levels.
Astaxanthin is known to powerfully enhance brain function, eye health, immunity and joint function among other things. The greatest natural source for astaxanthin is in the unique microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis. This microalgae reproduces extraordinarily quickly, doubling in.One of the most frequently-reported benefits of astaxanthin is an improvement in skin quality. There is evidence that astaxanthin not only prevents UV sun damage from occurring, but may actually help to reverse external signs of aging, from the inside out.
This has been clearly demonstrated in.Astaxanthin may reduce the growth of H. pylori bacteria, which cause peptic ulcers. It may also help protect against kidney damage from diabetes. And it may stimulate the immune system. Howeve.
Benefits of Astaxanthin for Eyes When it comes to eye health, several research studies have confirmed that astaxanthin can provide long-term eye careand give your eyes an added layer of protection against cataracts, blurry eyes, eye fatigue, glaucoma and prevent age-related macular degeneration, which is linked to causing blindness.ASTAXANTHIN BENEFITS INCREASE ENERGY AND ATHLETICISM. Researchers who tested the health benefits of astaxanthin on soccer athletes who took supplements of astaxanthin for 90 days found they had excellent results.
Exercising increased all the soccer athletes’ free radical production and oxidative stress. However, the group that took the.Astaxanthin is my go-to summer supplement, and it’s often called nature’s strongest antioxidant. It is a potent naturally occurring carotenoid found in foods like salmon and krill. There are many well-researched reasons for taking this supplement, but I take it for one very noticeable benefit: sun protection.
My results have been drastic. For humans, astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant with broad health implications and unlike other antioxidants, such as beta carotene, zeaxanthin, vitamin E, C, D and selenium, astaxanthin never becomes pro-oxidant in the body. [23, 24, 25, 26].Astaxanthin seems to improve the immune response by increasing the number of antibody producing cells.
By reducing inflammation and preventing oxidation of cholesterol, it may also help promote heart health. Experts believe it could reduce the damage to skin caused by UV rays such as sunburns, signs of aging, and skin cancer.Astaxanthin, along with powerhouse antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, slow and reverse age-related eye degeneration.
They also improve vision by reducing glare and blur, which balances contrast. Astaxanthin helps combat inflammation. The benefits of astaxanthin for the skin are multifaceted.
Researchers have discovered that dietary astaxanthin accumulates in the dermis (the skin’s thickest layer), and helps protect against the effects of harmful UVA rays. While both UVB and UVA rays can negatively affect your skin, UVA rays penetrate the skin more deeply than UVB rays.Health Benefits of Astaxanthin: Researchers from China recently summarized a number of the potential health benefits of Astaxanthin supplementation[1]. As a potent antioxidant, the myriad of potential health benefits is staggering. However, there’s still fairly limited research regarding the optimal dosage, safety, and general effectiveness.

Restocking on my resveratrol and prices are going up.. a shame.
I found a way cheaper one by pureclinica but it looks like it may have been made in someone’s bathtub!
Tricky issue finding both cheap and legit sources
Dr. Mercola is really 150, but you can’t tell it because he’s so darn healthy. Astaxanthin is not the fountain of youth, but it’s the closest thing we’ve got, and it has become the major component of my arsenal against aging. Thanks for all you do Dr. M! Here’s to your health.:) Sidebar: doesn’t he have the most expressive eyes you’ve ever seen? lol
Antioxidants proven to also shield cancer cells from being dying from oxidation…so, astaxanthin being the strongest antioxidant, can it have the big risk of an opposite negative effect?
I alternate among astaxanthin, resveratrol and alpha lipoic acid, weekly.
So, how many flamingos do I need to eat a day to get the benefit.
Just kidding,
Great info, thanks Dr Mercola.
Thank you doctor! This is the best astaxanthin explanation that i found.
Is Sulforaphane safe for people with thyroid problems? I read that it is not good for thyroid problems.
Another excellent explanation! Two comments: 1. I still plan to take astaxanthin in addition to eating broccoli sprouts. According to the book, The. Kaufmann Protocol by Dr. Sandra Kaufmann, MD, “These [benefitsof astaxanthin] have been identified as “preventing bacterial infection, inflammation, vascular failure, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, inhibiting lipid preoccupation, reducing cell damage and body fat, and improving brain function and skin thickness. So, this colorful, omnipresent and omni-helpful yogi can only serve you well. He will diminish your stress, protect your DNA, smooth your wrinkles, clear your vision, and maybe even make you happier.” 2. Dr. Rhonda Patrick is an advocate for sulfurophane especially from broccoli sprouts. She recently suggested heating these in hot water for a short time (she gave a certain temperature which I can’t recall) to make the sulforaphane more bioavailable without destroying the sulforaphane (from too high a temperature). Note: I recommend Dr. Kaufmann’s book along with Dr. David Sinclair’s book.
Thank you Brad. This is up to date scientificaly validated information explained in a down to earth way
Sounds like a lot of stuff to research, but it’s worth it if it does even half of the things he says it does. Great video!
Started taking astaxanthin and my vision stabilized within a few days, and my energy levels are up. I was convinced I needed glasses before but now I don’t. THANK YOU DR. MERCOLA!
When we first learned about astaxanthin years ago, it was presented to us as keeping us from being sunburned. We have noticed a huge difference in that and we live in Hawaii. I stopped taking it while traveling for 2 weeks, and I got sunburned for the first time in years….
I have been taking 12mg everyday along with omega 3 and coq10 for hearth health but one amazing benefit i just realized is i had gum disease, and its gone now. No more bleeding gums
Thank you very much doc! Loved the video. If I may ask, taking astaxanthin is generally recommended to confer protection against the UV-induced radicals. Does this too operate through NRF2 pathway and if so, does it mean sulforaphane is a better internal sunscreen than astaxanthin? Really appreciate your thoughts doc
I get Anthaxanthan through Purity Products. It’s good to hear another opinion. Any studies about Hyaluronic Acid?
great video Dr. Brad. I am going to start taking sulfurophane!…
@KillerTofu808 Yes most others note that people taking astaxanthin look healthier.
Hello Dr Mercola and thank you for your explanation of Astaxanthin! You note that it can improve skin as far as age related blemishes are concerned, but I’m also wondering if 8mg of daily Astaxanthin can darken the skin? I’m asking because it is remarked to me that I’m unhealthily pale and I refuse to cease my sunscreen use.
Hello thank you for informative video! Does anyone know if hawaiian astaxanthin good grade? Thank you
Thank you so much Dr. Mercola for your great and informative videos. I’ve read quite a bit about the benefits of Astaxanthin. I am starting to take it now and see what it will do to improve my skin tone. Keep up the great work! I am your biggest fan and watch your videos and learn as much as I can about good health.
@mercola so if I take it as prescribed it wont make my skin or hair any different? I heard its supposed to make ur skin look nicer or something
Dr Mercola helped get me out of the Allopathic Matrix:)I have added Astaxanthin to my supplements some weeks ago.
I concur………..This is another reason why the internet is so great. We can all get the benefit of his wisdom and brilliance…w/o waiting months for an appointment.!
Already taking 500mg Resveratrol and I have ordered some broccoli seeds to grow sprouts for sulforaphane.
I’m taking this for discoid lupus because I can’t get hydroxychloroquine thanks to Trump. I don’t know if it will work but good to know it will help my skin and eyes anyway
@KillerTofu808 In VERY high doses it will give you a light pink coloration that nearly everyone perceives as healthy. You will not turn pink like a flamingo
You completely missed that Astaxanthin activates the FOXO3 (among other genes). Completely different to Sulforaphane.
Dr Brad, thanks for the video.I want to take Resveratrol 500mg. I like to ask you where from I shall get the authentic third party certified Resveratrol 500mg?pl reply.
I am taking 4 mg a day for 2 months along with Omega 3 and very satisfied. I bought it on the iHerb site (promo coupon ATQ4143)
no, it only protects against sun burn when you are in the sun
So he tried to make it sound like the derived from micro algie astaxanthin (i.e. natural) is inferior. Lol.
Excellent Podcast
I notice that I don’t get a sunburn as easy when I take asthaxanthin
How about a comparison of resveratrol and Pterostilbene? This study referenced here ( http://longevityfacts.com/nr-clinical-trial-results-nad-levels-nicotinamide-riboside-pterostilbene/) examined the effects on NR and Pterostilbene on humans and seems to offer promising results. Could Pterostilbene be better than resveratrol? The article seems to say that Pt is more easily absorbed than Resveratrol. So would really appreciate your thoughts:)
All healthy cells of the body are oxidizing cells and so they have protection from oxidation built in. Antioxidants are really supplements that aid in proper combustion. Improper combustion is the problem, not the myth that cells are being damaged by free radicals. Low blood/oxygen levels are the main cause of improper cellular combustion but poor diet is also a problem. Our immune system actually creates free radicals to kill pathogens… anaerobes that have no protection from oxidation.
I think if you keep going, you will have a million followers in a few years. And you should. Thanks for the great content.
Dr., what about the UVB protection benefits provided by astaxanthin? I have a very fair welsh\Irish skin, not unlike yours. I’ve been taking Astaxanthin for several years, and I’ve definitely noticed a clear increase in the amount of time I can spend in the sun without burning. Is this just simply due to the NRF2 pathway as well, or is there something specific to astaxanthin for this?
I take astaxanthin along with COQ10, grape seed, resveratrol, hydrogen, NAD-H and other various antioxidants. I am 52 and am told I look 35.
I signed up for medical clinic trail for zanthosyn so glad i found this video it gave me alot of information. And living in Hawaii where your constantly exposed to sunlight I think this would be beneficial to people who are exposed to sunlight year round
Shouldn’t there be a link somewhere on this video to order this product?
I’ve been taking it twice a day since June and haven’t been sick once! Great little supplement.
This supplement works fast after a week I’m seeing the difference in brainmemory and skin condition.
hello Dr, how does astaxanthin differ from omega 3 epa/dha? is it good for stroke patients recovery?
Summary: eat broccoli sprouts and take a Reverastrol supplement.
Great video. So other info on how its made etc see here astaxanthin https://youtu.be/wDk5TObVHMI Spot on about eyesight
I really found your all videos easy to understand than those research papers…
Thank you..
I have one confusion between
Oleic acid vs resvertrol…
where can i buy good quality resverarol that is white and 99% trans
i take recently been taking 12mg but my stomach feels a bit uncomfortable after i take it. is this bad? and is it normal?
Known side effect, uses calcium. It will take it from your body if it not available in the bloodstream.
Dr. Brad, thanks for this video and the other one where you recommend a particular type of resveratrol. Have you ever heard of people having any sort of negative physical reaction to resveratrol? I’ve had problems with two supplements I tried -almost feeling an unnatural energy, heart racing, anxious, etc. and then just feeling terrible overall. I bought one from Toniq before that is where I had the worst side effects. I am going to look into the one you recommend. I will also be careful to start out by taking only a small amount. Also, what do you think about ALA? Another supplement you may want to look into or make a video on is NAC.
After much practice over time, I have found, for me, Astaxanthin works extremely well if I take it about every three or four days. A dosage of 10 mg seems very strong if I take every day with significant and unwanted hormonal changes. The days I do take Astaxanthin I make sure to take a pill or two of stinging nettle root when or after I take the Astaxanthin in the morning. Regarding resveratrol, I think taking more than 500mg may be too strong for the body. But, I have switched to taking a couple teaspoons of high quality olive oil in the morning and evening. fwiw… taking quercitin, cocoa powder and moringa daily as well….lol Feeling great…
Great video mate. I have to say, out of all the supplements I have taken, Astaxanthin has had the most tangible effects for me. I’ve been taking it for 7 years now and can stay out in the sun without burning at least twice as long as I could before. I can only assume it’s having other positive effects. The only thing I might do to start cycling things a bit is to take half the dose during winter months as it is pretty expensive and it probably wouldn’t hurt to take a bit less when there’s not so much sun. Keep up the great videos!
Is 4mg of Astaxanthin enough to see ny benefits? How long does it take to see benefits?
Hi, what glucoraphanin + myrosinase supps can u recommended? I found only broccomax from Jarrow.
Nice video thanks! Short useful video is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDk5TObVHMI&t=3s
Thanks Brad for your succinct reports. I will turning 66 this month and have been taking NR and resveratrol for the past few months. Recently have watched Dr. Patrick on broccoli sprouts I have started taking the sprouts on a daily basis for the past weeks. I also started taking astaxanthin after listening to Dr. Mercola and Dr. Corris discuss the benefits. It appears that while resveratrol, sulforaphane and astaxanthin all activiate nrf2 they all confer different benefits as well. I am concerned that I am overdoing the nrf2 pathway after your comment. As the affect on nrf2 is hormetic in nature isn’t any of the three molecules having the same affect anyway? If it is hormetic in nature won’t the pathway build up a resistance if it is activated on a daily basis by any or all three of the supplements? Should I only take one nrf2 activator at a time and rotate the others?
nice video! What do you think abtou NRF2 and this brand that you should know i guess? Life Advantage? https://www.lifevantage.com/us-en/
Because they say it is the best for Antioxydant etc..:)
