I’m looking for people who do or are interested in taking Amla and want to be included (onscreen) in a short video for YouTube about Amla consumption.
I discovered Amla via Dr G a year or so ago and take it on a daily basis!
Great video as always from this channel xx
is there a brand that dr greger recommends? i always have a tough time finding superfoods that are legitt
Love this man’s humor, vision, and mission. I have the book and looking forward to the new one, what important work! Much love and respect from Israel.
The studies do show amazing benefits!! The taste of amla powder though it ruins smoothies.
Careful spreading heath information, remember those heath Dr’s that died a few years ago “mysteriously”. No really love your information
Most anti-aging experts are now saying antioxidants don’t really do much of anything for longevity or fighting cancer.
I just watched this video and I still don’t know what Amla does. Can someone explain the benefit?
Please guys, don’t use this in place of actual medical treatment.
Anything strong enough to cause these effects could well have some equally strong side effects. I’ll wait a couple of years and observe the results others are getting.
Dr. G you are not an entomologist so you don’t understand the importance of kinky dipterans.
Off course Amla is full of vitamin c and that’s what vitamin c does! Google it up. But after the fruits have been dried to powder haw do we know if there are any useful vitamins left in it? Isn’t it better to take vitamin c powder?
I wonder how many of these comments are part of the Ad Campaign for this stuff. Too many glowing comments makes me justifiably suspicious.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I’m wondering why it’s better consumed on a powder form than the whole food. Thank you!
I love this channel! Great information and videos. Thank you!
BS. for me anyway: I’ve not taken a single vitamin supplement, pill, powder OR GIMMICK for 20 years in a row, AND I’ve not suffered ONE SINGLE cold, flu, sore throat, runny nose, headache, stomach ache, congestion, wake up tired, trouble falling asleep, fatigue during day even during hard labor or heavy squats or dead lifts exercise, plus not suffered 100 more so called common symptoms. FOR 20 years in a row…. so don’t tell me about any silly “health” concoctions. My medicine cabinet has a razor, water glass, nail clipper and nose hair trimmerthat’s it. No foul odors either for 20 years in a row! BAM!
I tried it, and I get a migraine the day after… Is anyone experiencing the same?
I’m really hating the humor when it deviates too much from the main topic. It’s way over the top. And it also makes me lose my concentration.
I’d like to add a warning to all interstitial cystitis sufferers: this stuff is very high in ascorbic acid. I started taking it after watching the video, and I broke my first rule as an IC sufferer — I didn’t read the ingredients. After two days I felt like my bladder was on fire. It took 12 days to get out of that flare. Wish I could take it, though.
How come we only hear about it now? Another scam, like chia seeds
Guy’s guy’s guy’s… Hi I’m Yash from pune…. We have production unit…we produce Awala products like Awala candy, juice, powder, supari, syrup, pickle and many more…. We have organic process.. Like we directly take Awala from local farmers and produce the products… Best part is that it is totally natural… Not even 0.01% of chemicals… You can contact me at [email protected] gmail.com…. Trust our products, you will not regret
So amla is basically an unregulated drug that I’m taking in my smoothie every morning, not fully knowing its effects…hope it goes well with white tea leaves and ground flax seed!
Great video Dr Greger, please do more videos like this please where you show the benefits of whole plant foods head to head against the pharmaceutical industry
Why do other plant based doctors say that we shouldn’t drink smoothies or take supplements such as this?
Then, AM LA is the magic pill long being sought.
Do you really believe all these claims? Why isn’t AMLA in every hospital ward and every apothecary?
Amla tastes like what I’d imagine Hell’s lemon aid would be like if it was a week spoiled and used to clean Satan’s feet. The only time I use it is when I’m sick and desperately wanting to get better soon. It does work though or at least it seems like I get well faster when I take it. The only thing worse is moringa powder and I say that as someone who can eat some really yucky stuff tasting if I know it’s healthy.
This is great stuff doctor G thank you! If you’re super stress add a tablespoon To calm your adrenals. Vitamin C is the precursor to collagen synthesis in the body…Amala the 2nd highest vitamin C of all fruits! Bitter is better!
“May be good for” tells me that the studies have been done. I would much rather see wording like this than be told to eat keto and not be told the truth about the the detrimental effects…..Thanks Dr. G, for all the work you put into these videos.
Just remember, your gonna die if you dont run to the store right now! What nonsense. Dont get tricked.
This stuff tastes awful. Put it in your smoothie and it ruins it. Bitter. I put mine in a T of peanut butter and just ate it. Do-able! Had to share.
Ice Bucket Challenge? Any idea whether or not Amla is beneficial/compatible with The Wim Hof Method / Cold Immersion / Cold Showers / Cryotherapy?
Interesting… I was expecting Moriga powder.
Thank you for the info!
JoseTheVegan on YouTube
What about people already on statins? Is it safe to use both? Or wait until won diet brings it down, then switch?
Just be careful as it can alter heamatocrit get a blood test if you are using it
Ok. There I was, scarfing down my veggies and Dr Greger makes this joke 0:48 about the fight over naming rights of an insect sexual activity observation chamber. I almost sprayed the veggies all over the screen. As always. Thx Dr Greger.
Less expensive at an Indian grocery store (if you have one locally).
Been vegan ( not whole food, plant based entirely yet) now for over 2 years. Recently, I had my blood test and my test came back good overall however my cholesterol was 186, HDL level was very low at 27 and my LDL was high also at 135. Triglycerides was 119. What is going on? Sure I could eat fewer processed foods but I don’t eat much of it…some rice, pasta. I eat plenty, of beans, whole grains, veggies, and fruit. I even try to eat amla once a day. Am I the only one with this experience? Please help?
Wow, I’ve been using the same brand shown at the end of the video! Amla is amazing!
So, is 1 gooseberry the same as the dried about, more or less? I’m afraid of buying powders of the Internet, who knows what it really is?
THE FRESH GOOSE BERRIES R DELICIOUS (NOT THAT SWEET THOUGH, BUT A VERY REFRESHING TASTE.) WHEN U CAN GET THEM.
THEY COME FROM COLOMBIA.
✌
I bought some but it smelled exactly like laundry detergent so I couldn’t bring myself to eat it. Is that the normal smell?
You know something is strong when the initial dose is a quarter of a teaspoon.
Dr Gregor first of all thanks for this and all your other great videos. Really appreciate the research you do and providing the information to us. I’m reading you book and learning new recipes from the How Not to Die Cookbook. Great resources. Now a question. Following knee surgery in October 2016 I developed a DVT in the same leg where I had the surgery. My surgeon recommended Xarelto. Some research indicated that 3-4 months treatment should be sufficient so I discontinued the drug. After that i developed another DVT in my other leg (the one that was not operated on). The surgeon believes this could have been from doing leg lifts that that leg under my surgical leg or wearing compression socks that did not come up above my knee. My physician referred me to a Hematologist. She did a zillion blood tests which all came back normal so I have no hereditary reason to develop blood clots. But the Hematologist recommended staying on the Xarelto (blood thinner) for the rest of my life. I really don’t want to be on the medicine. Over the past six months, I’ve eliminated sugar from my diet and switched to nearly 100% plant based diet. I am now seeing these videos about Amla and Tumeric and wondering is it possible a plant based diet could allow me to get off of this blood thinner medicine. I plan to talk with one of the doctors in my area referred from your website. But I also so on the website to ask a question via one of your videos, so I am hopeful that you might be able to provide some insight. I also figure there might be others dealing with the same issues. On the bright side, if I were on warfarin instead of Xarelto, I don’t think I could even eat a plant based diet because the greens would interfere with the medicine. Now isn’t that ironic, that the very diet needed to control your health could not be possible because of a medicine to control your health. Ugh! Thanks.
It may do this, it may do that. Be sure of one thing it will drain your bank account……
This video is as exciting as watching two fruit flies f**k. (if you watch the video you’ll get the pun @ 1:30)
Been using this stuff for several years now but still have not figured out how to take it without out being totally grossed out. This stuff taste so damn disgusting. I try and take it everyday but I usually just chug it with some juice because I wanna enjoy my green smoothies!
I previously bought this at a local Indian grocery store. Tastes awful but worth the benefits. I’ll just down it instead of put it into a smoothie
I just bought it on eBay cheaper than Amazon! I bought the same one that’s in your video. I guess you would call it a superfruit?
Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it.
STOP wasting your money on powders, pills or whatever supplements. Buy the whole food and get the LIFE energy from the fruits/vegetables vs powders, drinks etc. with preservatives etc..! The supplement business is a multi billion dollar industry emptying your wallet. And gooseberry is the hot item here that you might not have available where you life but there are other fruits/vegetables with similar benefits!
I have two gooseberry bushes which got weedwacked off last summer. UGH, it will take another two years to get them large enough to produce some berries….again. I do, however have a huge patch of black currants which i make jelly from and also keep some frozen to put into my oatmeal several times a week. I guess those and the wild harvested blueberries I also gather will have to do for my phyto-nutrient kick, for now.
copyright, trademarks and patents are artificial creatures burdening the market
Quickly downing it with a straw reduces the horrible taste experience. I wonder if anyone notices the antioxidant effects. You kinda sense many other antioxidants like decaf coffee, cloves, ginger, blueberries, wheatgrass. These sensations may be due to side effects and due to nutrients tho. I guess you cant feel cholesterol disappearing especially if you have no clogging whatsoever to begin with. One form of oxidation i sense disappearing from the other ones mentioned may be when sunburn stops burning. But i tested amla in winter months.
rosehips may be slightly worse overall (but similar nontheless)
but u can get fresh wild ones this time of year for free everywhere instead of “just” the powder of amla for 20 dollars on amazon
gooseberries is very good for vitamin C!
another thing when measuring herbs and fruits to pills is this-pills do not have fiber.
fiber is another source for optimum health.
i say anything that takes you away from taking a pill is a great source for health!
Bdw, it’s not Amla, but Aanvla(‘Aa’ pronounced as ‘a’ in ‘Bach’)
Can someone please help me find out who funded this crap?? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/19641727/
A pity it’s so fucking expensive (at least here in Australia)….$135 a kg… Maca, lucuma, mesquite, wheat grass, spirulina, cocao powder…all much cheaper!
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F322919073805
Moral of the story, if you have a fruit fly problem hide the Amla in the house!
This is great information, but dear God, this guy’s vocal presentation is killing me… rattling me right to the bone I tell ya!
I brushed my teeth with amla powder like 3 weeks ago. STILL A METRIC TON OF FRUIT FLIES ALL OVER MY BATHROOM! I’m like 99% vegan but I’ve no mercy on those fuckers.
My pal had been identified as having very high cholesterol and also had been placed on medications. He does not prefer to feed on seafoods therefore this has been an easy option for him. Using this unique cholesterol manual “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it) is the ideal choice for him. Soon after 2-3 weeks his levels have lowered and also the medications are really easy to have. This medication doesn`t give you a negative taste..
This amazing cholesterol guide “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it) is a brand new treatment I did start to utilize. Particularly, I started off making use of it in order to reduce my cholesterol at the help and advice of my very own PHYSICIAN. Every day, I have to take a caplet. This ought to be done for two months. My cholesterol decreased Thirty points. There’s no question I would suggest this to my relatives. Needless to say, I am going to continuously take this..
Where do you get the stuff? The food store will think you’re nuts….Oh ok, got on Ebay.
I tried a few different things so it’s hard to say what made the difference but I was on a junk food vegan diet and had cholesterol of 241 and went whole foods plant based along with taking 1/4 teaspoon of amla per day and my cholesterol dropped to 187 three months later.
I’m eating amla right now! in my mixed berry/porridge breakfast bowl
My goal should be to get my cholesterol to drop right from 245 to 199, the least, with the use ofthis cholesterol guide “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it). Luckily, in only a matter of 3 weeks, I have it dropped to 216. I did it with out doing big adjustments on my very own diet..
As a way to strengthen the existence of the “good” cholesterol and also lessen the “bad” cholesterol I got, I tested out making use of this specific cholesterol guide “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it). I don`t know whether it`s completed that yet; I haven`t had any another blood check up since I started working with it. I can`t delay to have my cholesterol level check again in a couple of months. Based upon all the things I have go through, this will work well..
Beware my fellow health seeking friends, I just ruined my chocolate oatmeal with only 1 small teaspoon of amla x_x don’t try to sneak too much of it in your food, the sour taste can be quite dominant.
I have high cholesterol and I’m looking for something natural to lower it. I will give it a try then get my cholesterol checked.
I add amla to my blueberry smoothies every morning. Looking forward to good results!
Always a pleasant mix between humor and knowledge thanks Dr. Greger and team!
What is avla extract and how to make it? Or can i get it if i have more of avla powder itself
Thanks once again for bringing up some great tips to improve our health! I actually knew about this powdered fruit and have some sitting on my shelf…I’ve actually stopped taking it because of the bitter taste, but because you’ve reminded me how very important sprinkling this in our food is I can get pass the taste and will start again! I’m always glad I check your channel.: )
I wish I’d stop being Gujarati (Indian). Mum uses it all the time! Set the table, Mum! Keep Smiling:))
Does anyone have a recommendation for an amla powder available via amazon? My local health food store doesn’t carry any form of amla.
Very interesting……Thx.
Vegan foods on Instagram = mikewakethefoodup
I’ve been taking all a powder capsules, 1000mg for three weeks and my blood pressure is 117/68 down from 140/80. I’ve just ordered more.
I’m beginning to become skeptical of studies coming out of India for financial gain.
So far everything I tried based on these studies supported by Indian researchers had little to no effect.
and guess where most of these natural products are mostly made? India.
I already come too quick. How can I prevent that specific effect?
Thank you PBL! Loved the video, a very timely and much needed reminder! Truth being I gave it up for awhile, due to the mouth puckering taste. Gah But I just made myself get up, and down it in a bit of water. Still awful! Hahaha Not ruining my cuppa or smoothie with it, I’ll just resume taking mine like a medicine, and chase it with a little whine!
I have amla fruit powder to use as mouth wash before sleeping without rinsing
anyone else tried this yet?
I have been consuming amla (1/2tsp) everyday for about 6months and my total cholesterol level dropped from 215 to 160, so I am a believer!
Great vid! Two points: What actually causes high cholesterol in some people? Instead of taking amla, I would have liked to know. And is amla throughly studied for side effects? I mean basil also has health benefits but when it was studied, it came out it might give you liver cancer. Turmeric and ginger can also be dangerous for some people. So, how are things with amla, I wonder…Maybe I should read more.
Greger is great but I never leap on single super foods recommended. I stick to the categories only.
Cardiologists advocate statins “in the drinking water” but this has zero side effects and is as effective as Lipitor and metformin combined! Doctors should be recommending it. And notice these results were achieved even without dietary or lifestyle intervention. One would have to assume eating healthy Plus Amla could put many Americans into heart attack proof ldl range of 50-70.
Anyone seen an LDL drop after amla? I’ve seen a dramatic drop when I went 100% vegan from about 95 to 70 within 6 weeks. Meat crept back in and I saw ldl go right back up. Now eating vegan again last month and for some reason it’s easy this time. Looking forward to retesting. Thinking of adding amla.
Got frozen Amla from indo/Pakistan store, put in smoothies.amla.
Hello everyone, i eat to much sugar actually lots of it and no fat, im vegan fruit and vegetables is my life, did my bloodtest and sugar is low but cholesterol is sky high, how come? I dont get it isnt it supposed to be other way around? Pls help dr Gregger
I used to buy dried powder from India. But when I get it, I was sure I get dirt. The texture is heavy, pretty consistent of dried powder soil. So I just throw it away.
All of the Amla studies come from India…. makes me suspicious. I have probably been plant-based longer than most here have been alive so dont question my skepticism but i am not convinced about Amla until studies come from a neutral souce. if anyone knows some, please reply with links. I want to be wrong. trust me.
Not a fan of the increased sexual references to be honest. I understand it is being done to reach a wider audience, but for me it takes away from the great research and will turn off older viewers who need to see these videos and receive this information in their later years.
This cholesterol manual “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it) is a whole new solution I simply began to use. This precisely due to an advice created by my personal health care provider thus I can get my cholesterol dropped. I took a single caplet each day for two months before I had my labs. It has reduced my cholesterol to 30 points. I will certainly carry on utilizing this product and also highly recommend it to my loved ones..
Hello, I have a question: would there be any interactions when taking amla powder with antibiotics, immunesurpressing or bloodpressure lowering drugs?
Help is very appreciated.
Hello good Doctor. You are a trusted name in our household! Kindly reveal the source of the Amla you take. Thanks Steve
1. There is an even stronger antioxidant in which Amla is 1 of 3 ingredients called Triphala/Trifala powder
2. The bitterness of green tea goes a long way to mask the flavour of Amla.
Can anyone recommend an Amla source that doesn’t have heavy metals or contaminants?
I am afraid government might outlaw the possession of amla so their pharmaceutical overlords will remain profitable.
Dr. Greger, may you give some information about Nattokinase, please
Bacterial fats NOT dietary fats are cause of heart disease… https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/11/171101151213.htm
I just fill 00 capsules. Because I want to consume it though out the day. It taste horrible and ruins everything I add it to. The most effective way to go at least for me.
It tastes like sawdust:-( I used to get an organic brand that was good and then they sent me a sawdust batch. No telling what you will get.
This guy sounds like he’s pooping and about to vomit at the same time
Great Video and channel Dr. Gregger. I’m getting some Amla for sure. Reading your book inspired me to start my Vegan fountain of youth channel. Your story about your grandmother was so inspiring. I’m on three years of plant based eating. My energy is through the roof. I haven’t had a cold in three years. Keep the great videos coming, and I will keep passing the information on.
Please can yoiu shed some light on a situation: a friend of mine has benign high blood pressure and for 30 years has taking a combination of nifedipine and atenolol to lower her blood pressure. she now has high cholesterol which (i bleieve) is a side effect of this drug combo. if she stops taking these drugs her life might be at risk. but taking statins is obviosly not something she wants to do, though her GP wants her to. What would you suggest?
Been adding this to my smoothies for half a year now. I noticed it makes me very calm? Anyone else get this side effect? Not sure what it’s doing inside but it’s a great side effect.
Off to check my blood levels. Had 6.1 a1c 2 years ago. and I can guarantee eating more fruit and less fat helps. I use to only workout 30 min before getting shaky and no energy. Now I workout and hour and have to stop myself and feel great afterward. Take that from a random stranger on the internet… oh also I increased my power to weight ratio ( I got leaner and made more muscle and lifting power.. )
This is the Amia fruit (also known as the Indian Gooseberry) It is very bitter in taste. Just bear in mind that all the claimed benefits are tempered with the phrase ‘may be good for….’
Why the makers of this video just couldn’t state what this product is at the start rather than making us wait is beyond me. Do they enjoy creating irritation in their subscribers? Do this again and I will cancel. I have given you a thumbs down just for good measure.
Funny how the facts seem to trickle out. Like how Amla makes you glow in the dark…
I hate amla powder. It is sickly sweet and goopy and sticky when stirred into water. But I AM going to start eating it again.
Surfer Rosa: The best I have found is from Terrasoul Superfoods. [I have no connection with this company except as a customer.]
Gonna try this. There are other fruit powders I use that are also very beneficial such as goji powder, acai, maqui, camu camu just to name a few. Sometimes I blend them and mix into my juice or smoothies.
This is why we need govt funding of medical research instead of relying on pharma companies.
Heh. America. What a sad dystopia of capitalism we have become.
so, amla extract works at 500mg, but will plain amla powder at a teaspoon dose (3 grams) work?
Hey, is that micro ingredient brand a trusted brand? I wanted buy a lb but dont know which company to trust! Help me!!!!
Anyone know where to buy lead-free Amla powder? (Emphasis on lead-free, like legitimate documentation)
I’m still not sure if I’ll switch from camu camu to amla, but maybe.
Amla is pretty nice, unfortunately I can’t take it, for some reason it gives me crazy acid reflux….
Science is better off for Dr. Gregor’s selfless sense of humor.
Love Dr. Gregor! Have his great book and refer to it often. Plants are amazing aren’t they!!?
I wonder if this amla berry is similar to the gooseberries found here in Costa Rica, which go by several names Inca berry, uchuva, cape gooseberry, golden berry, Aztec berry. They sure taste amazing and when you hold a bunch in your hands and hold them under running water for a second, it makes your hands super soft. They smell so good…fill the whole house with that yummy fruity smell. I ordered some Amla powder from http://www.VedicPro.com. I avoid Amazon.
I prefer triphala powder,it has amalaki(amla fruit),also two other Ayurvedic dried fruits:bibhitaki and haritaki. It cleanses blood, intestines, removes excess vata, pitta and kapha, balancing doshas, bringing proper functioning to the system. Tastes horrible though(so is amla itself).
Amla also has “anti-pooping” power (it can be constipating! Trust me.). Just so you are aware.
This is a 5000 years old known Ayurvedic ingredient! Lol, the West ‘discovered’ it now! It’s quite widely available in India, as Amla juice, amla dried or powder…and even in Ayurvedic formulations…world needs Ayurveda…
I already held amla and turmeric in high regards thanks to a fondness for Indian beauty (and curry! ) before I found this channel and began learning about their health benefits. Saves me money, I guess, to supplement by eating my cosmetics
But make sure you buy food grade amla! Which I tend to anyways, just because regulations for food tend to be more rigorous than those for cosmetics.
