Symptoms of Golfer’s Vasculitis. The rash seen with exercise-induced vasculitis starts above the sock line and up the calf but isn’t seen under the socks. It can appear as red blotches, purple (purpuric) patches, or small dots.Exercise-induced vasculitis is a harmless form of cutaneous small vessel vasculitis.
It is also called golfer’s vasculitis. It is a neutrophilic inflammatory disorder involving the small or medium-sized blood vessels of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. When only the small capillary vessels are involved, it is also called exercise-induced capillaritis. What are the clinical features of exercise-induced vasculitis?
Golfer’s vasculitis (exercise-induced vasculitis) mainly affects one or both lower legs and thighs, with single or multiple episodes of a rash with the following characteristics: Involvement of exposed skin and sparing of skin protected by socks or stockings; Red patches, urticarial lesions (weals) and purpura (purple spots). The medical name for Disney rash is exercise-induced vasculitis (EIV). This condition is also called golfer’s rash, hiker’s rash, and golfer’s vasculitis.
Disney rash is a nickname for exercise-induced vasculitis (EIV). It typically occurs when a person performs prolonged exercise, such as walking, golfing, or running, in hot temperatures. The characteristic rash usually appears above the ankles, on both legs, sometimes extending up as high as the knees. Golfer’s vasculitis is more likely to occur in women than men, in older people rather than younger ones.Golfer’s Vasculitis: Understanding Its Cause And Treatment Vasculitis Vasculitis And Multiple Sclerosis: Differences And Similarities Home Treatment for Skin Allergy: Ways You Can Relieve Skin Rash, Itching and Redness at Home Razor Burn Soothing the Rough Spots Ways To Clean With Baking Soda Baking Soda Can Be Used To Get Rid Of Heartburn.
This form of vasculitis affects small blood vessels, usually those in the kidneys, lungs or nerves. You may develop abdominal pain and a rash, fever, muscle pain and weight loss. If the lungs are affected, you may cough up blood.
Polyarteritis nodosa. This form of vasculitis usually affects the kidneys, the digestive tract, the nerves and the skin.Vasculitis occurs when the immune system attacks the blood vessels by mistake. Some of the symptoms include rashes, lesions, intense burning and itching, and swelling.
Golfers’ vasculitis, also called hikers’ vasculitis, is an exercise induced process causing damage to the small blood vessels and occurs with prolonged standing or walking.Exercise-induced vasculitis is a small-vessel vasculitis affecting the lower legs that occurs after strenuous sports activity such as running or hiking, particularly during hot weather. It is more common in women over 50 years of age and presents with petechial or urticarial rash with edema, itch or pain in an otherwise healthy patient.
Hi, Golfer’s vasculitis is a form of vasculitis (swelling of the blood vessels) experienced in the lower legs caused by excessive exercise in hotter temperatures. It is more common among older people.Like the Aussies, we’ll call it Golfer’s Vasculitis. This exercise-induced leg rash affects otherwise healthy people who have been walking in warm, humid climates.
If cutaneous vasculitis is a manifestation of systemic vasculitis then treatment of the systemic disorder is required. What is the outlook for cutaneous vasculitis? Vasculitis limited to the skin has a good prognosis with most cases resolving within a period of weeks to months. The vasculitis may recur at variable intervals after the initial.
A number of patients presented with an erythematous, purpuric rash occurring on the legs in association with playing golf and also after prolonged walks or hikes. Many patients believed that it was an allergic reaction to grasses or insecticides and had sometimes undergone extensive allergy testing.Golfer’s vasculitis, and Exercise-induced vasculitis” aka hiker’s rash, are names proposed by different medical researchers for a form of vasculitis resulting in a purpuric rash.

If 3 or 4 videos about Behcet’s Disease could be made by the best and brightest, I would be deeply grateful. 80% of Drs. I’ve come across live in New England. I know there have got to be a few in all that flyover country.
Thank you so much for making this video. I was diagnosed with vasculitis oin December of 2013, after several months of misdiagnosis. I went to 5 different specialty doctors before landing in a pediactric rhemoatology doctor’s office at IU Health in Carmel, Indiana. My vasculitis affects my small blood vessels in my ankles and feet and in my right wrist and hand. I understood what my illness was, but this video will help me explain it to people much better.
For whatever reason, I was not aware that fatigue was a symptom of vasculitis, and that is a relief to me. Last year around this time, I went through some panick attacks triggered by the unbearable pain I was in from my untreated blood vessels in my ankles, not to mention I was beyond fatigued. I was very tired, and I was very scared.
Over the spring and summer, while I recieved treatment with methotrexate, prednisone, and a variety of other medications, I felt great! I was rarely fatigued. Now that it’s getting cold where I live, I’ve noticed that I’ve been needing to put on more nitroglycerin cream than usual to keep my toes from feeling numb. It’s a relief to realize that feeling tired and ill are a part of this illness, because I’ve been experiencing that and I’ve been worried. Once again, thank you for making this video and providing a platform to share my story!
I had a cerebral vasculitis which is similar to what you’ve been through! I’m in Canada and good luck to you!
I’ve been studying the top natural treatment for treating kidney disease at home and found an awesome resource at Dravin magic plan (google it if you’re interested)
I’m 14 and was diagnosed with Bergers disease and ANCA vasculitis, both effecting my kidneys, two years ago and am working towards remission. This video was very informative!
Gentlemen I am diagnosed with PAN and EGPA, the lack of treatment has led me to present a disability, I do not have any kind of support. I make a desperate call to your collaboration to save my life, in Colombia the health system does not work
I’m researching the best treatment for reducing kidney disease naturally and discovered a great resource at Hollistic heal plan (look it up on google)
At 10:58: Polyangiitis doesnt have granuloma
At 12:15: Polyangiitis does have it
@Medscape, or anyone that can clarify this. At 3:20 you mention claudication in the jaw when chewing. I thought Claudication was pain during the gait cycle in lower extremity due to reduced blood flow? Can this term also be used for any kind of active muscular pain that has an ischaemic cause then?
they said preazone im pretty sure what semptems are you haveing
I suffer from strong abdominal pain, ascites, but without diagnosis. Israel.
I was hospitalized this August, released in 4 days by the hospitalist. Within less than 36 hours I was back in the ER. The Dr in the ER treated me like a drug seeker and gave me nothing for the pain because I am allergic to morphine. Thank God one Dr fought to have me transferred to the University hospital where I was diagnosed with IGA Vasculitis after their Dermatology Department did a biopsy of the vascular spots on my legs. Like you I was given high doses of IV prednisone. I’ve been told it was caused by an allergic reaction to something I ate and may never know what caused it.
I am wondering if I have any formof vasculitus. Today is the second time that it happens tafter 3-4 days normal life passed since I had the first in my life strange pain in my oblique muscles, transversals abdominal muscles. It feels like someone is ripping, pricking my muscles. It feels like something is inflamed there. It is a persistent pain and I will keep in exploring online for symptoms and possible causes for this. I didn’t overexercise my abdominal muscles, neither overstretched them by overeating or consuming rare meals. I am afraid I might be suffering HSP vasculitis or other form of it. I detected months ago ( since Dec. 2019) I had hemorrhoids and they just relaxed and stopped causing me problems, I overcame them with much motion during the day and nice diet I suppose, when this strange abs muscles pain started. I am in Bulgaria and I wonder if the doctors in Bulgaria could diagnose successfully what my problem is. Of course, they can, but I wish I dint have to waste time for doctors check -ups when I have been unemployed since Jan. 2020 and as I am staring very soon a proper job at last, I obviously don’t want to stay unemployed waiting for doctors’ check-ups to reveal what’s wrong with my muscles….life is a paradox!
i have this samething but since im only 14 they dont have a treament for me and i could die if i fer really sick so for everyone oit there just hold on
Thank you for your video. Could you do a presentation on panniculitis? Those diseases really challenge me whenever encouterd on clinical practice and that’s when I think of dermatopathology.
this is the best vasculitis summary I ve ever watched. thank u v much dude
When I stretch I get really itchy I’m the muscles and my blood pressure is really high, 165/93 usually and for the past 3 months. I’m on 3 different blood pressure agents as of 45 days ago and have not seen a lasting drop in blood pressure, first week of medication I went down to about 140/85 for almost a week, and then it went right back up again. I’m wondering if I’m experiencing some form of this disease.
I was diagnosed with leukocytoclastic vasculitis early 2014 and I still have it till now. I have to wear comprehension stocking everyday of my life since then because I am a teacher. Steriods did not work for me.
Thank you! Another fabulous informative insights into vasculitis.Very useful for daily practitioners.
Were you taking calcium supplements when you were diagnosed and have you been taking them since your treatment began?
But how long can you take Prednisone Steroids before that creates more problems? What do you take after Prednisone.. How do you get cured?
Is c-ANCA a sure test for vasculitis or GPA? My mother’s c-ANCA turned out to be positive
Vasculitis seems to be unmissible as an easy diagnosis with the patient’s presentation much more with an Hematoxylin and Eosin Stain (H&E Staion). It is rather assuring that the immunostaining (immunofloresence) is plain and simple flawless as a Leukocytoclastic Vaculitis LCV diagnosis….Cheerz Fellow Gardner.
was just diagnosed February of 2016. Before that I’d never heard of vasculitis. So unfortunately I’m still trying to understand what’s happening. Thanks to this informative presentation though I feel like I understand a little bit better. Thanks. And good luck to you other vasculitis sufferers out there
Thank you for the video!
Also, its ophthalmic artery! not ophthamolic! sorry..it was getting on my nerves

Heads up for those watching: Churg-Strauss is also more recently called Eosinophilic Granulomatous Polyangiitis (EGPA)
Hello, I’ve got this on my feet and legs. This was due to using cannabis. If anyone has this, stop all types of drugs use. Get on an anti inflammation diet. Ginger, tomatoes, blueberries, pineapple. This cleared my skin up entirely. Also stay aways from other types of toxins. Train yards, high polluted cities, cigarette smoke. I never experienced any kinds of symptoms other than blood vessel damage. I was diagnosed with leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Which is only in the skin. I hope this helps.
He went all the way to Cleveland clinic for some prednisone?! Lmbo! What a joke.
Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis (LCV) seems like an autoimmune Aetiology without an environmental causation as in ” narcotic” induced Leukopathy. The Diagnosis is rather complex as the Clinical Presentation with dermal Signs and Symptoms of Plaques and Nudules with Thrombi in and around Medium Vessels which can mirror other Eosinophilias (Even though a most involved Infiltration [Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Eosinophils, Histiocytes and Plasma Cells] is probably diagnostic even on Hematoxylin and Eosin Stain (H&E Stain) if not a myriad of hematopathies as in Anemias or Malignancies. At any rate, the Differential Diagnosis is really simple with Different Immuno Fluorescence (DIF), a rather innaccesible Staining Technique for less fortunate patients. Immunohistchemistry is nevertheless an all telltale or a “Jack of All Trades ” Workup that nips this entity on the bud….lol

Nice Video! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you tried Taparton Casting Hives Takeover (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for Getting Rid of Hives minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my work buddy got astronomical success with it.
Thank you sir for the video. For a a pathology resident like me your videos are very informative. I expect more videos sir. If possible not only of dermatopathology but also of soft tissue slides.
They are figuring out what I have too… And vasculitis seems most likely. I’m so happy it’s treatable.
My husband cns vasculalits patient how i contact with doctors. He is now not well he cannot walking
Nice Video clip! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you considered Ganrayden Peerless Gratification (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for eradicating your urticaria without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin after a lifetime of fighting got great success with it.
Glad he was helped, but what a load of crap… this is an advertisement for CC… the treatment is never mentioned, steroids don’t work for everyone… plus they’re not a long term answer… if he was on steroids, he would not look so slim in the face…. I call BS
Beautiful video. I have seen it over and over again and every time I learn something new out of it.
what an amazing video!!
thank you so much for these amazing informations.
I don’t normally leave negative comments, but this was a complete waste of time and electrons.
Anyone else other than me who has chronic blood vessels vasculitis????
In Pakistan
Apart from the location, how to differentiate between EED and GF if both have fibrosing vasculitis?are these secondary vasculitis?
Dear sir my daughter only 4 years 6 month suffering vasculitis for one month
I absolutely cannot believe some of these comments from people about this disease! It is absolutely a REAL DISEASE!!!! I was just diagnosed last month with vasculitis after having so many health problems and sores all over my body for the past fifteen years! People should read and study about this disease before they place judgement on anyone! Vasculitis is extremely painful, maybe if any of you suffered from it, then you might change your mind! And when you read about it, you will find that this disease is very rare, there is not a cure, and the only things to treat it with is prednisone or chemotherapy drugs! You can get it along with other diseases like Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus and other autoimmune diseases! Why on earth people would make judgements about others when they have absolutely no idea what we suffer with, is totally beyond my imagination! People just have no respect nowadays! Shame on you! To the young man in this video, I certainly know what you have been through and I wish you all the best!
Thank you for this video. I’ve been having vasculitis at the soles of my feet since I was a child and I never dared to look up information because there’s heavy imagery in most educational videos and I wanted to avoid that. This video explains the disease very well without showing upsetting pictures, so thank you for that!
oh god how does deacrease BP results in vasoconstriction for god’s sake?
For a non pathologist like myself, just someone who really enjoys morphology, I’ll like to thank you for the hours of teaching you have given me. You are both a scholar and teacher a rare combination…..Thank you!!
Man can go to the moon but can’t find cause of a disease?
It explains it all….
Excellent as always, could you do one on skin adnexal tumours.
They gave me prednisone but it’s not effective and has a side effect.
