Exercise may be useful in the treatment of anxiety disorders because it requires enduring negative physical and emotional states in order to remain engaged in the activity. Specifically, exercise involves an action (i.e., approach) that is inconsistent with the natural action tendencies associated with anxiety (i.e., avoidance).Regular participation in aerobic exercise often results in a decrease in resting heart rate by 5 to 25 beats per minute, although the explanation of this well-established.Read the latest articles of Psychology of Sport and Exercise at ScienceDirect.com, Elsevier’s leading platform of peer-reviewed scholarly literature. For a much better cognitive capacity, memory, and focus, this brain training game “nonu amazing only” (Google it) is proposed. First, this app is exciting! I had been able to find out the tough parts and determine where I`ve got an edge. I like this game because it it not only exciting but also a good way to exercise my mind.
This video would be way better if the narrator wasn’t an annoying Disney character

@UCTV Are you pre-approved with any state physical therapy licensure board or agency in the US or Canada?
Anyone else here because they have been sent her from class?
Excellent talk. Definitely opens the brain to a different mindset regarding trauma.
I agree. Exercise helps my mental health.

This is the worse learning video, I don’t need to see commercials about impeaching our president. What a bunch of low life losers that would put that commercial on before a learning video. All this site does in corrupt innocent children and adolescences
Exercise actually does give you the munchies Great Video! I love the Journal Workout idea!!! Thanks!
another reason is because on the very old day, we move more, we use our time on physical, but when we advance, our life make us sit more than we move, and techonily is taking over our time, tencholigy is getting more serious, the advance make us relaxed, when our body was made for physical.
This brain training game“nonu amazing only” (Google it) will keep your mind lively. While I`m still young, I want to exercise my brain by executing numerous things so I can reduce the risks of possessing brain complications brought by retirement years. Only a few minutes daily will enhance your memory and your ability to concentrate.
I really wanna watch the rest of this video but her noise is just too damn annoying, thanks for ruining my runners high xD
I really like this presentation and also, I would do this starting tomorrow. ☺
hi professor! my guess is 8:l
your channel is really a gem… thank you:)
Dr. Jak has interesting info here, worth knowing, though… um…. ya know… I found her kinda…um //hard to listen to..um because she definitely prepared her slides ahead of time, but um so she knew definitely kinda her info, and…. Whew! Gregor Mendel wrote of his astonishing discovery of the laws of heredity but no one noticed because his paper was tedious. So too with Jak’s talk. To mix a metaphor, this is an uphill listen.
I’m sorry but if you don’t want to make your videos sexual then you shouldn’t be using seductive/irresistible voices like the one in the beginning because I got a boner
I wasnt depressed until I heard your voices lol. Nice info though!
Thank you. Just got back from swimming laps, but now I see I need to do 30 min every day.. so I’m making more plans for the future. I’m in my early 70’s and need all the brain I can get. Thanks!
hey nice video really helped me get all the fitness i needed
As someone whose life has been massively affected by trauma / cptsd and musculoskeletal injuries with chronic pain, I found this talk super relatable and super helpful.
There are lots of brain tease games available on the internet. This brain training game “nonu amazing only” (Google it) is my personal favorite. It is fast game that you can do when you want to kill a few minutes that would be completely advantageous to you.
I appreciate the enthusiasm but you can use your normal voice it’s amazing and not annoying unlike the other ones:P
People who watch motivational speaks should watch this instead.
Eric. I’m your age. Have watched lots of your videos and enjoy them. This one was the right video at the right time. Also: I agree with you views on existentialism. I consider myself an existentialist too. And a dilettante, etc. Thanks man!
great story, love SE,thank you for sharing Monica! what baffles me is you standing on these immensely unhealthy high heels…..
This awesome game “nonu amazing only” (Google it) is my way of enjoyment. Whether this really enhances my brain is secondary. You will love playing this game! You could improve your human brain by simply playing this excellent application. For me, this game is addicting and I strongly suggest to play it.
don’t do sit-ups it will hurt ur spine in the long run, do push-ups instead.
wtf is with everyone and the speaker’s voice this video? rude.
who even cares…..wasting your time pondering this pointless bollox is just sad..Just go with the flow
I have discovered this brain training game “nonu amazing only” (Google it) easy initially when I first played it but later on, I uncovered that it helped make my brain better. I really feel like it has truly improved my memory and I enjoy playing it. Apart from being entertaining, this game truly challenges me. Good game to really get your brain functioning.
Am I the only one who just wants to work out, not even for weight change or anything, who just….ENJOYS exercise!?!?
This is fantastic. Clear concise and funny. Start slowly. 5 min walk. I started with 5 min, didn’t want to overload myself, because that would depress me more. If you have problems with you memory make notes on your phone. I hate exercising, although I know without it I am so ansy and depressed. Take your time one step is better than none. Thank you for posting this and helping all of us.
This is pretty much a discussion of statistics and research with a lot of cheesy graphs and charts and not a whole lot of useful information on the effects of exercise. Don’t waste your time here unless statistics is what you’re interested in.
Would whipping my slaves count as a workout? I usually work up a pretty good sweat.
Terrible voice. But she was told to do it by the terrible director, who was told to do it by the terrible scriptwriter.
This mind training game “nonu amazing only” (Google it) amuses me a lot! They`re quite tough and I wish playing these types of games help improve my memory and focus. I never thought that my entire family will enjoy this game too and in some cases, we have fun playing the game altogether using just one mobile phone!
I don’t like some people like that them exercising all the time because it makes me feel like big isn’t beautifulthat stuff is not me but this is
The main takeaway here: Don’t work at an Amazon fulfillment center. Be homeless and you will be stress-free and have an active lifestyle
Very nice voice, i love it though. Wonder to see the speaker)
They`re are a bunch of games that actually make you think and work out your brain. I really like this brain training game “nonu amazing only” (Google it). You could spend your spare time playing this quick game and you won`t be sorry.
I feel smart because i read man’s search for meaning. the father of logo therapy
18 pull ups is damn impressive for a 58 yo and an intellectual. That shows either strength or low body weight, either way it’s a sign of vitality.
Health issue can seriously get tough to handle alone and a bit dangerous too if it’s ignored. Don’t be scared to ask for help. If you want, you can hire a professional to help you too, like davidemyersphd.com.
One thing that usually gets left out of talks like this is meditation. For me using meditation as a supplement to physical exercise seems to complete the picture. It seems to be as much of a benefit if not more than working out. I have been meditated for a few years now and all of my ailments I used to have have now disappeared. I feel so much sharper and have more energy and just feel overall better about life than ever before. Things that use to bother me no longer bother and I have a greater love for people. I never used to be like this.
Food can either steal energy or give you energy, you need to know the difference. I personally gave up sodas and red meats same time 1979. Never pork, culture practices. If you are what you eat, and how your cells regenerate, your need for eating for function far out weights your eating for fun. Humans creatures of habits; either you CREATED, good habits or bad habits. your choice, certainly is mine. As I get older more raw food, less fried foods, less dairy if any. Stopped cheese yrs ago, never milk.Yes I do drink coffee moderately and I smoke pot moderately, 55 yrs now. 68 yrs old and I am busy, 7 am to 6 pm, 2 hour lunch, bed by 10. pm. Life is fun when you know what it is you are doing.
PLEASE use your natural voice… the other ones are really annoying… God gave you a beautiful voice.
Walking is the best exercise. It’s weight-bearing and we need to navigate our environment while doing it. That doesn’t really happen in a swimming pool. The aforementioned is also an argument against treadmills when compared to regular walking.
It’s funny because many YouTubers and fitness experts disagree about so much and they all get great results.
They`re are a bunch of games which actually make you think and work out your brain. I really like this brain training game “nonu amazing only” (Google it). You could expend your spare time playing this fast game and you won`t be sorry.
Thanks so much for presenting this and sharing your story as well as how to start unraveling the effects of trauma. I use SE in my therapy practice and I often wish more people knew how to use this wonderful processing machine that the body can be. Great share.
Creo como pensó el filósofo René Descartes: dualismo del cuerpo y la mente. Existe una correlación entre la salud mental y fisica. Gracias Dr. Enrique por traer este tema importantísimo.
I’m just crying.. so much pain I go though 15 years with PSTD, and im starting to heal.. thanks for this video God bless you <3
As SE pratictioner I thank you for this talk and I totally understand and agree on what you said. Thanks to Peter and to his immense gift.
Funny that a P90X infomercial sponsored this video. Drew hates P90X.
I Ioved it! Good infermation. Good humer. Just good!
Thank you!
i love the voice of the girl and her witty ways of speaking, alright I said it:D
Health is the greatest gift you give yourself.Contentment is the greatest wealth, trust is the best relationship. Peace is the highest happiness.
@UCTV Bring on some economy experts to explain The Prosperity Gospel and its damage to our society. We need more understanding of how invisible imaginary sky man friends effect the decisions of our government representatives. How this idea of “good” allows us to ignore child genital mutilation and large numbers of sugar addicts racing toward death. Trash is filling our streets and universities everywhere do not care.
Why? Insulin sensitivity is increased. Similarly with fasting. Put the two together and there is synergistic power the medical establishment (pharmaceutical industry) can only dream of harnessing.

I watched UCTV from my TV and this had damaged my cogntive functions…..yousee i type “cogntive.
There are three main takeaways here: Make sure you exercise regularly, consistently and longitudinally, practice good nutrition (educate yourself from credible sources) and try to get enough sleep… oh and make sure you exercise enough.

The root cause of diseases of aging is excess insulin in the blood. Plain and simple.
Aerobic exercise is also a potent antidepressant and euphoriant;[13][14][15][16] as a result, consistent exercise produces general improvements in mood and self-esteem.[17][18]
This is super clear. Even English is not my first language, I can still understand 100% his messages. Especially that part, we need to do something to our muscles using the weight, not using our muscles to do something to the weight. Forget about the weight!! huhuhu
Meditation is the best thing in my life. Learned to control my emotions, stress and mind. When you control your mind you control your happiness. Our friends said my wife and myself look more than 10 years younger. Cheers.
Whoa… I cannot believe I couldn’t even see the commercial through my tears and then he said the first time he watched it he cried! I’m only crying because I’m thinking of my dear sister Eva in the nursing home.
Wow…you just made me better thank you sir,’ 1-876-575-7763 YOUTUBE.COM great work
IM STUDING NEUROLOGY BOOKS BECAUSE I WANT TO LEARN AS MUCH ABOUT BRAIN HEALTH AS MUCH AS POSIBLE.THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEOS.AND YOUR ROBOTICS PROGRAM.AND GOD BLESS AMERICA AND YOU TOO.
Just found your videos and subscribed as this is very good and the other one I watched was good too. I’ve gone through various phases of improving my strength and fitness but as I age I seem to be taking more and more responsibility for it because I want the freedoms and benefits it brings, both physically and mentally. A couple of points in the video really struck me as useful for where I am now. I really liked the bit about lack of time really being about having other priorities too. Many of your points were great for those who are yet to start. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. As for the pull-ups, I had a loose guess that you’d get 15-20. I can get 10 on a good day with a bar where I can get a decent grip. I’m curious if I’d get many more if I didn’t lower myself as far as I do though, but I prefer to do a few less reps, but slower with maximum range of motion, and then just do more sets to make up the numbers. Keep up the good work anyway, and I’ll most definitely be watching some more of your videos.
am I view number 16 or 17 it says I was 16. but are they saying there’s 16 people behind or am I just 16.
My personal training buiness my own luifstyle has to be the role model. I train people from 15 to now my oldest 77 yrs old. Minimal 3 times a week. average 8 yrs my clients become my friends, Charles with me 23 yrs, Jake & Jack 12 yrs, Lirio 13 years. People will not stay with you if no progress, and nice personality and over the many yrs people are HAPPY& Healthy.
Gravity became my friend through sports and 50 yrs of weightlifting. The mind talks but the body knows I learned this early 13 yrs old and never stopped lifting. now 68 years old, looking back, my strength physical, confidence, discipline, patience, insight, vision, respect and most of all success through failure..there is always another plate. lets look, no doctors since my basketball scholarship in Canada 1967. I moved to Hawaii for 20 yrs, got healthier stronger larger, power lifting & Basketball, good food and smoking pot now 55 years. Results no illness, no doctors, no hospitals, no medication only meditation. No surgery, no problems. Life is great when you know what your doing. You are what you do, not what you say. My girls daughters Cross-fit Champions, early thirties. Still work train teach others private studio gym where I create champions. Personally I still punch heavy bag daily 15-25 minutes every day. Gravity is who you are. Food and sleep is next, be your own doctor, smoke pot.
Great lecture! I deal with older patients all day and many have not taken care of themselves and their quality of life sucks. They need to hear this message at a young age so that their quality of life is better in old age. Very well done!
fat, ignorant and angry people are the ones hating on this talented girl!!! they dont work out nd weight like 400 pounds and sit on their computer all day, so they get annoyed when they heard stuff like this!!!
Great tips! I’m also obsessed with fitness and mindset from a neuroscience pov, I have also created some videos with the hacks I’ve used for my self and worked! I hope it helps someone else too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdE8Hc_pZIs&t=871s
Excellent!! As a person who is suffering from depression and insomnia and is a parent caregiver, fitness and eating well have been my best partners! I personally love the Shaun T training, but if you can’t go to the gym, you can also check Popsugar fitness videos on YouTube and it’s free! Go for it!
Your videos and your exploration of existential philosophy and humanistic psychology have been such a positive force in my life. I come from a BA in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy and it is nice to feel connected with ideas of existentialism and humanistic psychology once again in such a practical forum.
Also, congratulations on being able to do 18 pull ups at 58 years old. I can only hope that I will be able to do the same in my late 50’s (let alone right now). This video has been a positive part of my day, so thank you once again for what you create through this channel.
Hi there.
Please don’t listen to the people saying that your voice is annoying.
It’s fun, expressive and full of joy.
You do you girl.
Damn! One minute in I thought it was going to be the chick who hit Levine!
This is one the funniest and informative videos I’v ever seen! I love the different voices, awesome and very intereseting video!
I grew up at the YMCA in TORONTO Ontario, Central & West End and downtown YMHA. I started an athletic identity early and this brought me great success. Hockey gave me courage, confidence, no fear attitude, Basketball gave me University education, and Power lifting body building gave me the world. Google Peter Knopfler, check articles written for “Body Building.com” read my “Inspiration to exercise”. Have Fun.
I guessed it would be 17 because I thought he would go HAM on this to prove a point and he still beat it!
Love your videos Professor Dodson!
I’ve been following your channel for about a year now and this video was unexpected and a real treat. I guessed that you would do about 10 push ups as I am 25 and can do about 12, But damn, 18! that’s impressive.
All she needs to say is that the mental toughness and discipline required to exercise daily is what makes one mentally stable and allows them to better cope with daily life challenges.
The rest is all bullshit
I like that this is dry… she’s not an Instagram or YouTube reality star
Re: “no pain, no gain”
Pain means something is wrong.
A better saying would be “no effort, no reward”.
Lifting weights is a deliberate breakdown of muscle cells.
Eating the necessary materials is important.
Muscles are built in the rest phase.
If you break down an amount you can quickly recover from, it feels good not bad, and you can stay consistent with your workout & make progress.
More than this 20 year-old college student, that’s for sure.
This could have been presented better with some real good voice. The materials and data of this presentation is highly appreciable but the voice is really annoying. But that’s the truth.
Wow. Props to you Eric; and you could even narrate the closing of the video without a cut’n’splice.
Negative Strees Mental stress Emotional stress all dissolves, when you foster a meditative ritual or practice. There are many disciplines, try them all, little by little you will find the style you feel most progress. READING people like KEN WIBER is a good start.
Gobbledygook…. does anybody really know what he’s talking about…. I know there’s a lot of scatterbrained women…. but now we have a scatterbrained guy… sprechen sie Deutsch!!!
18 is very food as most kids can’t do that. Pull up is o e of the best exercise is it regroups so many muscles.
I’m so happy for you Monica. I knew when we met at TEDxPittsburgh in June of 2018 that you had an idea worth spreading and here we are. You are a great coach, a great speaker, and have been through a painful experience and have lessons to share. You have learned how to overcome the trauma you have faced and all you want to do is now help others. That is an idea worth spreading. You journey leading up to this video release was interesting for sure, but the release on Feb 28 made it all worth it. I’m so happy for you, I’m so proud of you, and looking forward to everything you have coming ahead <3
Her voice just undid the benefits I reaped out of my workout
REALLY Good Ted talk Monica!.. I think you did amazing and I am inspired by your talk!! I will keep digging into this energy healing modality for my own pain and to help other vets struggling. Great topic & thx for letting me know trembling is not only ok, but normal (Energy release;)… I Salute YOU!! chief
If I do not do my 2.5 hrs exercise [all chiropractic and physio therapy] I will literally fall apart. Pain is my motivator.
Everyone who watches this video should try that squat. Even just doing a couple of reps will be an experiential education.
You are wrong about yoga. I have seen old, old guys in my family smarter than you at ages of 70 and above. Yoga seems to get your brain going. Do you have a racist attitude towards yoga? If meditation has got proven benefits for the brains by the most brilliant of Americans, yoga will be equally good. It’s easy for fat, obese people and other lazy people and people who have never done any exercise. No grunting like all the other stupid exercises where you have to grunt like a PIG. Yoga is revolutionary…
This man knows what he’s talking about. Very helpful. Thanks!!!
Mike Mentzers’ video, Underground Seminar, is available on Youtube. Section 9 explains recovery need of 9 days or more for advanced trainees. Try it and decide for yourself.
I really like the video. Very informative, entertaining, and educational. I thought the graphic renderings were simple and very effective. They allow the viewer to be entertained while not being a distraction to the message. The voice(s)… I thought added the effect of entertaining and instructing in a dynamic and, when received with an open and analytical mind, in a very beneficial manner. Congratulations!
Yes it’s traumatic when a partner says ” it’s the past, get over it” And they end the relationship…..how do you explain to them when you don’t understand yourself!!
Lovely relatable talk. Shaking is so powerful and I had this after a healing session. I was made felt it was not OK and was asked to stand in my power. Now a year on, I know this is what the body needs to release and it is healing in itself. Please spread the word to educate people who don’t know and understand
Insulin, insulin, insulin. That’s all you need to focus on. Immune system? See insulin resistance.
Very helpful! Thank you Monica! It seems like learning to heal from trauma needs to be #1 on our to-do list, which is hard in our society! Wishing you healing and happiness!
*talks about exercising the correct way
* gets out of breath 20 minutes after talking
I would love to see more research in regards to what anaerobic exercise does to the brain. There are studies that suggest that HIIT sprints have a more profound BDNF release than longer runs do. Fascinating stuff to see. I’m excited for exercise research in regards to neuroscience in the upcoming future!
Thank you Monica for the insights of your experience. We need to continue to expand our knowledge of modes of healing including somatic work, which has significantly helped a few of my friends. Well done!
Everyone has to read the best books about it: from the one, that created SE peter livine. they are easy to read, very instructing, very helpfull.
so relatable that i cried. thank you for being open with your experience
Thank you for your clarity, compassion, and genuineness. Your talk is a great intro to SE.
i would rather read this info to avoid that voice. EXERCISE IS A MANS GREATEST MEDICINE
I looked after my elderly Mum during the last 5 years of her life. When she died I was 55 years old and decided to take control of my own health before I became unwell. I joined a gym with exercise classes even though I thought I hated exercise. It was so surprising to me that I became motivated to improve my diet as well as exercise. I made friends at the classes too. I think the classes should be prescribed by doctors
Your voice is perfectly fine! And thank you for making this video.. It’s great knowledge, and those who follow the advice will experience a great result. I began working as an illustrator, which requires sitting on a chair all day, and feel like I’m beginning to get depressed (which has never happened before), anxious, nervous, frustrated and irritable.. so I’m saving up and getting a good treadmill ASAP. There is really no way to feel happy and relaxed than by releasing all of this trapped physical energy by exercise. Only then can you feel at peace mentally.. not only that, but be physically fit! It’s a win-win and a great investment.. if anyone feels the same way… invest in exercise!
Frankly? Purge people from your life that denigrate your healthy habits or lifestyle. You’d be amazed at how many people out there want to drag you down.
I know HIT works. But why the Hell, nearly all who prapagate it, looks so damn regular?
Your bravery in sharing your story will help many individuals overcome trauma. Thank-you for your powerful message and for sharing it with the world!
I loved your talk! Thanks so much for sharing your message with the world. More people need to know about this!:)
