Taking a Break from Running May Do You Some Good. Taking a Break from Running May Do You Some Good. Sage I’m a massive fan. Instead of just heaping praise I want to give u constructive feedback. This video (and others) would benefit greatly with some editing. The details about mono don’t strengthen the video. There’s a lot of repetition setting up your point which only serves to lengthen the video and takes away from its focus. I love the information and demonstrations you provide us and you’ve helped me a great deal with form etc. but I’d recommend really tightening up your training talks to avoid the tendency to ramble. Keep up the amazing work.
Good stuff Sage, last December got injured and a sick and just now have started to gradually increase mileage. It is a process that one must do and enjoy, in order to return to prior fitness. Thanks for putting it together.
Three things….run on grass or soft surfaces, don’t run more than your body can handle and seriously reconsider veganism. Fair enough if it’s a lifestyle/ethical choice but purely from a running/performance standpoint, your body will do so much better with a balanced diet of good quality food from all food groups.
Good luck recovering friend.
how to deal with a groin injury that lasts for many months? The doctors can’t find the problem of the groin injury which my running friend has now
Am going to run again after 2 years. Let’s hope for the best. How to improve consistency & pacing. My PB for 21km was 2:04.
Always listen to your body to prevent more serious injuries. The goal is to run injury free. Stay strong
Trying to kick an injury since May! went on easy 10 miler and hamstring went guess Im overtrained and need long break very tough to stop as love my running thanks sage great talk
I feel fortunate that never got injured or had major problem to make me stop for a long time. This year after our baby girls were born I took 2 months off as the work with 2 babies was quite intense (and it goes on as they grow up, hehe) I have adapted my schedule to run between office hours and then maybe one run during the weekend, I gotta be available to help my wife.
Those 2 months also helped me as a good recovery as I felt my body was not fully rested. Now I need to remember to do more foam roalling and stretch.
Good video Sage!
The ego is not your amigo
LOL
I freakin love that
Stealing it
Thanks for the video bud, was very helpful, will sub to help out your channel ☺
I’m a noob at running.was never an active person but also didn’t gainweight until a few years ago when suddenly,
Over a one year span,
BAM
I gained 60lbs
My ego went into a coma for a while after that hit haha
But I’m glad it happened it was a reality check
Anyway
Started giving running a try and to my astonishment
I actually like it?!
Have lost 16 lbs so far(over an 8-12 month period) yeah, it’s slow but I’m OK with that and content, but I only know this number from being weighed at my neurologist, I don’t own a scale for obvios mental health reasons, I want my health to be the focus not my numbers.
Much love
Thanks great advice. My coach is big on recovery cross training rowing machine, cycling, swimming, and easy running until you feel confident to get back into high intensity running. Even if the body is ready to go, your mind may need more time to regain confidence. Best advice from my coach is “don’t push it until it feels right”.
you’re socially isolated anyway, you don’t need to explain yourself lol!
A lot of the comments here feel so familiar. I took 5 weeks off after my first half ironman because I didn’t have a real break for 2 years. Going back into training was a very humbling experience. It took a good month to get even my base running speed on par with what I’m used to. Commuting by bike is a great way to keep a good base level of fitness, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Otherwise it goes away pretty quickly indeed
I just asked you about this in the comments of one of your last videos, nice! Thanks again for your stellar advice!
I literally just got done with my season, and I was telling myself, “man I dont want to stop training, I really want to win state next year” and then you uploaded your video so I guess I’ll take a week off! I wasnt sure if taking time off was a good idea, but now I do
Hi Sage i’m in day 16 of an ankle sprain 2nd degree that I got at km10 of a trail marathon race. Tough time physically and most of all mentally. But again, you pull me up from the dark with your tips and advices. Thank you Sage. I’ll be very careful in getting back to the trails.
I’m afraid that I would get out of shape if I took more than a week off
Kindly talk about groin pains I have been suffering and even after physio and lots of yoga stretching I still feel pain.
On a side note: I understand your need to monetize your channel, but 7 ad breaks on a 10 minute video? C’mon….
Thank you so much Nick! I’m taking an off season from track right now and I was wondering:)
Some good points and reminders to think about in your training cycle. After the Angeles Crest 100 and going in to the Baldy Marathon, out of 6 weeks, I only had one week where I did some road runs. The rest no cardio. Though I did try to lift weights regularly. Trail runs in the mountains especially long ones do take time to recover from and can make sore legs especially muscle strains and back of the knee strains. And of course sore feet. Which can be discouraging because then you have to skip workouts or really tone down the workouts. So my 6 weeks before Baldy Marathon was no cardio except one week of some road runs, actually jog walks, in 100F heat.
Great video. I just went through this. I took almost 5 years off. I was an ultra trail runner before I took the time off. I gained a bunch of weight and didnt even think about running anymore. May of this year I got back into the sport. I have consitently ran every week since and ramped up the miles much slower. I faced a few facts before I even started…one Im older, and two..I did some stupid things in the past when I was training that I know I didnt want to bring into this training block. I increased my miles very slow this time. I started with 31 miles a week for the whole month of June. Then when I felt I had a decent base at that mileage, I slowly started to increase using the 10% rule. Then once I got to 40 miles a week, I noticed a IT band problem. I slowed back down, nursed the injury while still training, and moved up to 50 miles a week. The injury is gone, and now im in shape to do 60 miles on a consistant basis. Its been roughly 4 and a half months and Im now just starting to impliment intensity workouts like tempos and speed work. I dont feel like I am quiet where I was 5 years ago, but im close. I think by the end of this year I will be better than I was before. So It took me 4 months to get back. I also lost 40lbs and a total of 12% of my body fat. Patience and consistency is the key!
I am currently on a break after hurting my knee. I took a week off and tried again and wasn’t ready so I’m on another week off, should I take two weeks off. I have a full marathon in just over two weeks. Should I not run anymore until race day?
I broke my foot this week 5th metatarsal one month before the NYC Marathon. Thank you for this video. I’m hoping to make a speedy recovery and get back on your training plan!
Running should be taken seriously, it doesn’t seem like much, but it can ruin you (injury, overtraining, etc.)…
Sage why do I puke a lot after a marathon? Do you think it’s the jell packs I eat…
I’m just a very casual runner but yeah I do love these tip and lessons.
Great vid sage I’ve been off for 7 weeks with a cracked rib had my first week back this week takin it real slow my vo2 max dropped by 10!! My legs feel good fitness definitely has dropped off though how long should it take taking it slow! Thanks for all the talks really helpful!
Does icing shins work? Should I try KT tape if I keep getting shin splints?
I was recently ill with the Flu, felt better after a week off, then turned up the intensity too soon, and got the flu again, should have taken more time just doing some easy weeks. Lesson learnt. We are all eager to achieve our goals, but if you don’t recover from the issue, you can waste double the time and your previous efforts. Thanks for the great talk Sage.
Tweeted you a few days ago asking for something like this. Now that is responsiveness! Great stuff!
I was an XC runner and could do 2 miles in 13:58. However, due to Coronavirus, I couldn’t run for months. I tried to get back today and OH MY GOD I WAS LITERALLY DYING!!!! Even 0.5 miles felt torturous:( Any advice?
I have almost never had caffeine my entire life (i hate candy and coffee) but I ate my first caffeine gel ever today, but in most practices my max heart rate which is normally 190 and almost never ever goes above that but today my heart rate monitor read 201, is that unhealthy? Should take 1/2 recommended size, or is that just the gel/caffeine doing what it does?
Used to do a lot of running after years off how long will it take to get a spring back in my step I’ve put weight on started this week in worried I wont get back to my fitness I once was
Havnt run right in 6 years after IT band injury, sucks so bad!
How much weight is a normal amount be gained during a 1.5 week break?
My break was 5 years. In 2014 i was running 19 min. 5ks and 1:35 half marathons. Now I am struggling with a 10 min mile. It’s bad. Back to the drawing board. Starting like I am a total newbie.
I really haven’t run in about 10 years. I used to play rugby and could run moderately for 90 minutes a game. But after 10 years of little to no running, 10 years of alcohol, cigarette and fast food abuse I can’t run for any longer than 2 minutes without my shins hurting or my breath running out. It’s embarrassing
dude I told you before and will say it again “visit Italian doc” he’ll fix ur tired soul…
Hello, Sage! Can you do a talk on off-season training? Should I continue running 100+km weeks and do all the speed and tempo workouts? Or should I take it easy and let my body rest a bit? In previous years I skied during winters, but this year I want to keep training really hard. Is that a good idea or not?
What is best way to build to 100 miles from a marathon? I am running my first 50 miler in December 2017, then another 56 mile in May 2018, a 50K in September 2018, another 50K in November 2018, Georgia Death Race 74 mile in March 2019, and then Cruel Jewel 100 mile in May 2019. Does this sound like a solid, steady build up, or not enough? Thanks Sage
this was a video i needed. ran again for the first time two days ago after tearing my LCL. i’ve been very impatient but i’m just conscious of any recurrence so i’m REALLY trying to control that! will build up again with that easy slow mileage. cheers sagacious Sage
I took a year after two years back into it due to AF and AT I am struggling mentally back in to it
Wow, that really sucks, bro. I’m a vegan runner myself. I hope it gets better soon, brother.
hlw coach Kyle….I got fracture (calcaneus fracture) in may 2017… now is has taken 14 month…I can walk now slowly….but after walking…I got some pain in my leg…it will recover very soon within 4-5 hr…..but I want to start my running now….but I don’t know that I even not able to walk regularly so how I will start my regular running????
Used to run every day in high school. Stopped in college, started smoking. 8 years later I haven’t worked out since my freshman year of college and I smoke half a pack a day. At my best I would run 10 miles a day, today I decided enough was enough. I made it half a mile and had to sit down on the sidewalk. Thank you for being positive with your video. I won’t give up
Your music makes me smile Sage…. keep it coming. Another great video. Always find your videos full of great advice and really helpful. You have inspired me to start my own running vlogs. You even get a mention in my Vlog No. 1. Keep up the good work. Best wishes Peter
Thanks for this. I finished a Full 3 weeks ago that did a number on my hips so I’m taking it easy and cross training. My ego wants to get back to my faster times before the Full so bad!!
Always enjoy these talks. I’ve got to say, slowly building my base mileage has been the best addition to my training. Thank you for highlighting this necessity throughout your talks.
i returned to run this morning, after 4 months off. It was like HELL and I could only make 4km:(
Thanks for the video, I really needed to hear this, I got injured 2.5 months ago and I was able to run easily but now I’m having a way harder time running and I didn’t know why and I’ve been back for 3 weeks.
Ok I’m returning to running after a 14 year break, I’m running a 5k in 22 days but I’ve been mtn biking and road biking this whole time? What would you suggest I do?
Its great to take a long break from running and enjoy life in a slower pace sometimes:) with overtraining the relaxing feel good chemical serotonine can get out of sync
Taking time off i so important. I when 5 seasons of running with no beaks and in my last 2 of those 5 i got slower then i was the year before.
What about a break that has lasted 7 years? How fast can I get back to running those 30 milles a week? I don´t want to go too fast.
Sometimes it’s just nice to get outside and feel ALIVE more than anything. I’m currently taking my break before XC starts, and I’ve felt so liberated by evening bike rides till the sun goes down, swimming, and basically spend time outside solely to enjoy nature. It helps me to keep searching for perfect moments in time.
I start tripping on the trails and lose patience, then I need to rest
Today is my 2nd run after taking a week off from overtraining. Perfect timing again Sage!
I must be getting old because i need 2 days recovery these days:))
I sure dont need to know when i need a rest day. Been lockdown for 7 days already, 3 weeks to go.
Usually I notice a steep decline in my vocabulary. I get all emotional too lol
There is no lock down in your region… ahhh lucky you ✊✊✊
best advice. speaking facts. you know what you are doing ☺️.
haha ive done this so much.
Sleep is by far the most important!! Not only for well being but for peak performance!! Even way more important than nutrition!! Without it, everything else means nothing!! Rest days are arguably even more important than training days!!!
I appreciate this my knees are always hurting and my body is really stiff
I was on a HEAVY strength and hypertrophy program 6 days per week a while ago. I loved that rest day to say the least. Coach Holly s beautiful.
great advice! as a musician there are strong parallels here! rock on sage!
Having a great respect for you and for such kind of explanation
Thanks for the info. I’ll certainly share this with some friends that are working through injury.
I never realize the importance of stillness. I am exhausted. I’m resting now and I don’t feel guilty. Thank you for your assurance.
Hi sage. Can you make a training talk on the the pros and cons of doing 2 workouts and a long run vs 3 workouts and a long run a week?
Hi nick, I was wondering back in your high school days if you cut body mass after the track seasons. Obviously for cross country it would be ideal to weigh less than you do for the track season but should you simply keep your diet the same and increase the volume of your training or switch up your diet to slightly lower calories?
Wow nick you are a great example of how elite 800m runners can have many different body types, for example nijel Amos is 60kg 1.79 m and you yourself are 75kg 1.79 yet both are top of the top 800m runners
see if you can find a grass path or somewhere else where you can run 100% barefoot and see how that goes?
Timing of this video is fitting. I took 11 days off with a sprained ankle. Working my way to a 5k in a next month.
I wanted to run club track over the summer. I don’t wanna take too long of a break so I guess I’ll go with the 7 day break you mentioned. I need to get faster but my body really needs rest
Well, I feel like it depends on a lot of things, that you have to take time off or not.
There are runners who are more likely into general high volume, running a lot around the aerobic threshold and adding little but very focused higher intensity training. These are the Kipchoge type of guys, ultra marathon runners, trail and mountain runners and so.They don’t necessarily take more than a couple of days off, however they make sure that after a race, the next couple of weeks is going to be focused on base training with no intensity, just controlled high end running form.
Other athletes burning the candle multiple times a week on the track, yes as you say, sometimes need that 3 to 4 weeks off maybe even twice a year in some sever cases.
I take around 2 to 4weeks off every 4th year. Otherwise a couple of days here and there will do it. I feel that, as you say it is really personal, I need 2 days off, 2 days of running and again 2 days off. That is working for me, like every 4th month or so. Otherwise I am a seven day runner.
Thx for the vid! Cool it is!
Hey Nick, appreciate you taking the time to answer questions from fans!
For three season athletes (XC, indoor, outdoor), would you recommend taking a break after each season or just once a year?
What about the gap between winter track and spring track I only took off 2 days but my coach told me to take a week off
My last off season (September) I took 4 weeks off, probably took me about 4-8 weeks of gradually increased mileage to feel fairly fit again. Like you initially I was glad to just break the constant running cycle but towards the end just wanted to get going again.
As a 800/1500 athlete in the UK I always find it weird when US athletes talk about “Summer XC training” and the track season ending in May. That’s when the weather becomes decent here and we get going until August or even September!
Trust this man, I used to take my breaks for granted and I burned out like a candlestick. Worst feeling ever!
Hi it’s me watching nick symmonds instead of going to school because there’s *D*ucking Noah’s flood and I missed my train and I’m soaking wet and my mom can’t drive me to school because the street is complete closed thx even the parking lot I usually cross in the Morning on my way to train station is a lake now and I stepped into a 30cm water hole
You got to listen when you are being point blank with those guns…
Thank you so much Nick for all you do. You inspired me towards the end of my season when I really didn’t have much left and I managed to finally break 2 in the 800! I think I can safely attribute this to you and your tips (especially the video on the lean as it was only by.06 seconds). Again thank you so much and continue making amazing content!
Amigo thank very much por you videos disfruta tus vacaciones y descansa y a comer ahora si lo que tanto desea saludos desde Mississippi
One of my biggest inspirations and the reason I love the 800/4×8
Force period of rest: this damn COVID.
Working my endurance again. Thanks for the video.
Nah iss one week or else you lose more than 30% of mitochondria, don’t listen to fools who just copy what everyone else says. Take it from Tinman Tom Schwartz who can actually describe the science behind a runners progression in training
I worry constantly about getting out of condition and gaining weight during the time off. Did you feel out of condition? And how long did it take you to feel back to normal?
Damn this video literally couldn’t have dropped at a better time for me, I just finished my last race of the year and am suffering from plantar fasciitis so I’ll be taking a break for a little bit. Thanks so much for the tips Sage
I literally just finished track too and I was wondering this exact question thanks man
“The ego is not your amigo”, lol love it. Really need to keep this in mind bc I tend to overdue it when I’m starting back up. About to start up again this week.
Nick, I watched your World Class Warm Up for Runners video and it was brilliant. However, it seemed a bit long for a 14 year old running under 30 miles a week. How would you adjust the warm up and warm Down for a 14 year old? How long before the gun would you start it?
If I have taken a few weeks off about a month before the season is over cause of injury do I need to do this?
You’re about the most accessible super athlete I’ve ever listened and enjoyed. Thanks for including me and everyone else in all your adventures. Are you still training for 100m?
Sage, I just wanted to thank you for all of the videos and training talks this year. I found your channel at the beginning of the year to help me train for Boston (was able to PR that race with 2:52), but I could have done better considering the terrible weather. Last week, I was able to run the Philly marathon in 2:35 and I want you to know that your training talks really helped me a lot to be able to achieve something that I thought I would never be able to do! Thanks again and I hope you have a great holiday!
Sling Blade. Some folks calls it a kaiser blade. I calls it a sling blade. Killed him. Hmmhuh
Hey bro i have a question. I mostly train for 10k and 21k but idk if it’s good to do hill sessions, i mean i only do them to gain strength and in short tracks, is it ok or it’s useless?
i have been struggling with my running since July 1st. thanks for the perspective Sage. i am going to stop trying to run “through it”, and take a break, then get back to it with new enthusiasm.
Totally agree about resting, i’ve just come off the back of 4 weeks lower mileage due to injuries and just chilling out and now I feel 100% better for it!
Super helpful. I had an intensive football match on Sunday. Wrecked my legs. Attempted my usual running session 2 days later (5k) had the worst shin splints, ankle pain and knee pain. Managed to finish the run and felt mentally great. Thursday, attempted the same run again (as I would usually do) and I have never mentally or physically struggled so much. My legs felt heavy and achy. My mind just wanted me to give up. The weather was horrible. Anyway, I’ve decided that I’m going to take a break for 3 to 4 days so I can get back to enjoying running. Hopefully I’ll have fully recovered.
Sage, this maybe a bit off topic but I would love your input on this.
Since I’m part of the armed forces, there is a lot of sleepless nights, by that I mean I get to sleep 5 hours average. This means that I do not have that much time to recover from hard runs.
Just in case you need to know my training consist of Tempo runs, Sprints, and LSD since we are tested mostly on speed.
Do you think it is ok for me to run everyday under this condition? (I’m aware you’re not a physician. I just want your input it would be greatly appriciated).
Me:
6,5
240lbs (I’m cutting to 205)
Thanks Sage! Awesome advice as always! Rest up and hopefully you’ll have some extra time for jam-sessions. I love your music intros!
What music software do you use for writing your music??
Hi Sage. I know you are vegan and would not use collagen peptides as part of your nutrition, but what are your thoughts on supplements like that? Is it a fad or is there some truth behind it? Dealing with some ongoing achilles/calf trouble and looking for anything that may help in any way. Taking about 2 weeks off now after just getting going again and not too happy about it.
Such good advice! I think it’s hard for us runners to dial it back sometimes because we are in our own head all the time. But it’s good to just get out and explore.
you need to stop eating all that sugar and processed shit dude. vegan isn’t important. gotta go caveman.
I sleep 10 hours a day, I think thats more of a problem than sleeping less than 6 hours a day.
Yep…you can’t hurry the harvest! Rowing machine might be fun..if good for the knee. Swimming can kick.
Thank you for info looked at my sleep diary I had less than 12 hours sleep in the last few days also heavy in muscles. Stay safe.
I had to stop running for 7 months… had to have surgery on my thigh. Tried to run 2 miles almost impossible for me.
Who asked this question if you don’t mind saying? It’s the exact question that’s been on my mind and I believe I sent something very similar to this (with wording that sounds like mine) a good bit back. Idk I might be crazy but great vid and thx for the tips!
You touched briefly on how much fitness you -as an elite runner lose after two weeks off. I’m very interested in how much elite runners lose during periodisation, it seems very little is written or talked about in terms of how much slower or faster elites get during any one year of training. I would love to see a graph showing the extent of the peaks and troughs during a typical elite marathon runners training. I’m only a recreational runner, but on a relative basis this data would help know if i’m letting my fitness drop too low during any point in the year, and as a result, throwing away my chances of longer term progress. I always really enjoy your musical intro’s by the way:-)
Good points. My 2018 goal was to break 4 hours in the marathon and I started training on New Year’s Day. Ran a Mother’s Day marathon and missed by 18 seconds. Took 2-3 weeks of easy recovery running then ran another marathon in late July, where I came in at 3:56:55. Since then it’s been pretty much just maintaining fitness and running a couple shorter races for fun. I’ll start out in the new year again to prepare for spring half marathons. Probably not going to do any marathons in 2019 as I’m going to focus more on speed and strength.
Hi Sage, what are your thoughts on running rim-to-rim-to-rim on dec 15? Are there any issues like trail closures? I know the taps will be off too. Do you think I can manage filtering water from sources?
The dude in the Walsmley singlet may have had one too many Avery’s
My coach has us take about 2 week break after cross and than after track than we move to the next season. I felt after my break which ended a week ago as tho it was too long off and I feel really weak.
The best way to recover is to rest and lay off the booze.
I take a month off each year! Totally worth it for the long run
… your intro was totally cool please do more lol
Really great advice and tips, important ones us runners like to skip over and try keep burning hot all year long. I took 2 weeks off activity after the Amsterdam Marathon, ate a bunch of crappy (vegan) food to both physically and mentally relax and feel better for it. I knew the music intro and acting was a sign you’re not running as much
Rest days are critical to adding to your athletic ability. This is when the body builds back after a stressor like a workout.
You’re right about the pressure to race year round. It’s tempting when you’re in great shape to push harder and harder.
I’m doing wrestling for winter season, not the most conventional cross training sport (still doing easy runs as warm ups before practice starts and long runs on the weekends)
I take like 10 days off. then I do some shadow boxing the next 3 or 4 weeks to recover and mantein weight. Let the knees to recover.
Hey Sage, Just wanted to give you a big thanks I followed your training plans and completed my first 70k yesterday. Alpine Challenge in Victoria Australia. Cheers Sage
back then I can run at 5-8 km run
I stopped running for almost 6 years now because of asthma
tomorrow I’m gonna run again
Thank you for the tip:)
I’m just getting back after 2 weeks rest. I believe the injury is the result of wearing Vibrams (pain in Achilles, ankles and general foot area). I’ve tried slowly to build up my milage wearing Vibrams, but after 2 months, even wearing them for a one mile walk triggers the pain to come back immediately. As a result, I will be giving up on my quest to go bear foot for the foreseeable future.
If my mind is not functioning properly, I start to see failure
When my 3rd metatarsal started to hurt in January. I got a stress fracture and took a 6 week break. I experienced a little niggle right under my toe on a 10 mile workout. After I could barely walk, took a break for a few days, went back and it become a full on fracture seen in an xray. Also, when I ran it hurt a lot, the area was swelled up, my middle toe looked kind of out of place and it hurt when I walked on it. My doctor said to rest for 6 weeks, no running, cycling etc. You could maybe swim but I didn’t risk it. I did a lot of icing and drank a lot of almond milk for calcium. 2 months back into running I haven’t experienced any pain and I am even breaking PBs in the 1600 and 3200. However, I advice when you come back to start base building. In my current track season, I had a base period of about 2-3 weeks before starting high intensity track work. I’m already feeling burnt out and running the same times every race. Also, I switched from a pair of altras to hoka clifton 3s with some insoles. No pain what so ever.
vegan you have to buy Nike Free Runs, I just switched from Maximalist Hoka One Clifton 3’s and Bondi 5’s and stopped wearing them to wear Nike Free Runs, and Nike Flex and wow the difference in my form, and how I land my knee pain has gone away. Learn from the pros as well Mo Farah runs in Nike Pegasus, go get those, and take 2 months off before you hurt yourself, you don’t have to prove anything right now.
I had a metatarsal injury about 5 years ago, get the Hoka Cliftons, they saved my feet.
Hey mate, have you tried recording your running technique and looking for any incorrect posture/stride issues? Not sure how long you’ve been running for but this amount of injuries is very unusual and there is a high chance of your technique requiring improvement. Good luck in recovery!!
Due to life, I left running and wanted to run again after a year and a half. Although I’m scared because I don’t want to pick up running again only to drop it again..
Really sorry to hear about your injury man:(
You’re definitely doing the best thing for your body by resting up. I hope it gets better and your back out on the running scene in the near future. Just wondered how old you were and how long it took you to get up to 70 mpw? Thanks:)
We keep hearing about cyclists losing their lives on the roads. I am also reluctant when it comes to cycling because of it.
So sorry to hear about your injury. Get a gym membership and do the crostrainer and or waterrunning. Best of luck with your recovery
Just star back from the begining and youll be back in no time.
I was injuried for one month and the season ends in like 2-3 months
Can i still get a good shape in this time?
This is slightly off topic but next time you recover from an injury you should wait longer before doing a park run or any race. You missed three weeks and I think you should gradually build up mileage for two months before you start racing, depending on how well training goes.
You went from traditional shoes to vibrams and had very little transition. You stuck with it because it fixed your it band, but didn’t ease into it. What did you expect? Although processed sugar is good for someone that does a lot of training and is a good energy source, it can also promote inflammation if had in huge quantities.
Take a few weeks to a month off, then take a month to do some serious conditioning, do injury prevention one day, weights another day and swimming another day. Do this for a month or more, then do 40 miles a week while keeping up a gradual progression of lifting for your legs. Remember, Mo Farah once ran 2 weeks of a season and suffered 4 injuries, it took dedication but look where he is now.
Have a good rest mate… I don’t think it’s Vibram.. I do 2 jogging a week not more than 5 k at once… I never have problem with it.. when u increase weekly miles… this sort of problem is common… get well soon..
It’s been a great year following you Sir thank you as always. This is timely I badly sprained my ankle two months ago and it was tough to train for my yearly 50k. Night before the race I broke my middle toe on the other foot…still ran the race out in the snow here in Canada. Just gutted it out lol, time for a rest. Thank you for the persistent positive attitude you help me achieve.
3rd injury in a year, your so fucking unlucky mate. Get well
