The body is naturally acidic, the stomach is very acidic because of the HCl in you, basic (alkaline) things are more dangerous to consume than acids… At least that is what chemistry taught me…

when you’re working out especially in the heat your body needs to replenish that loss and sugar is beneficial which is why you always crave sugar when you’re dying in the heat… it’s not a guilty craving it’s a necessary craving
if you don’t feel the need for a gatorade then stick with water because no sugar… however for the real athletes out there, your body does need that sugar to recover

Water during work out = dilution of cell which in turn loss of electrolyte (that’s the short form anyway)
Basically Gatorade is better because of the replenishment of electrolytes. Also better for muscle repair.
If you’re over weight then find something with less sugar cause you probably aren’t going to burn off the 35grams of sugar per drink. But if you’re active for your workouts…Gatorade beats water

If I am going to have a sports drink, I choose Golazo because its natural, no artificial colors or flavors and its made with coconut water. But water is my number one drink as it gives me the best boost in energy. It tastes great too!

I get a lot of foods that bother me lately, like pasta and dairy products. My tummy feels acidic lately. I do not smoke or drink. But, I need to take a lot of products out of my system. I was under a lot of stress, for a long time. And, I think it gets worse. I may have heartburn or something. But, if I take out meat products, what kind of bulk food can I eat to fill me up. And organic is so expensive that’s its hard to afford to buy it. food, is such an issue these days it seems like. When I was small we just ate whatever our parents made, the four food groups. I do have lemon water in morning, and ACV, but I feel still acid stomach.

Makes enough to enrich 6 liters of water. Use 1/2 tsp. of this powder in a 12-oz glass of water, or 3/4-1 tsp. in a liter bottle.
2 Tbl sugar (carbohydrates)
3/4 tsp salt (sodium chloride)
1/4 tsp NuSalt (potassium chloride)
1/2 tsp Epsom salts* (magnesium sulfate)
1/2 tsp brewer’s gypsum (calcium sulfate) – optional; available at homebrew store. Bonus: you can use it to make tofu from soy
milk.

I drink No Sugar Powerade…tastes fine to me. It does have too much sodium. But I don’t cook with or add salt to my food. So it probably balances out.

this was all fascinating, thanks for posting it, I had to deal with this myself I grew up eating a lot of tomatoes, being Italian, my grandfather made me tomato and mayo sandwiches which I loved, but as an adult, I can’t eat them any more without feeling sick and itchy it finally dawned onme that the tomatoes I ate were grown organically in either my grandfather or great uncles’ gardens, organically, now tomatoes are largely imported and gassed to finish ripening I’m sure I’m allergic to that gas, luckily, all the best Italian food doesn’t contain tomatoes at all so I can still eat it

I’m afraid Zoe Harcombe took the vegetarian research to the woodshed. Gram for gram, meat is far more nutritious in literally everything except Vitamin C. I’m all for balance and eating what is right for your body, but can the vegetarians please stop this propaganda that an all-veggie diet is the healthiest diet? The data is not there to support it.
That being said, I love Kim Chi, Sauerkraut, Eggplant Pickles, Anato, Natural Yoghurt, and Sour Cream. They are excellent foods to break a fast with and prepare the gut for a more substantial meal. They’re very nutritious and generative. In my daily 20g net carb allowance, it’s those along with a small serving of broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, spinach, collards, or mushrooms. I have never felt better in my life. My body fat is coming off, my muscle definition if improving, my blood work from sugars to lipids to vitamins is now the picture of metabolic healthiness.
Now, in terms of GMO, outright banning them is stupid. There’s a right and wrong way to modify an organism. Golden rice is a good GMO. It provides nutrition to an otherwise very nutrient-poor grain central to a lot of Asian diets among the less finally well-off. What needs to be banned are GMOs which produce unnatural pesticides and lectins that most humans can’t handle.
If I can modify a flax genome to produce a USEFUL Omega-3 oil in the seeds such as DHA or EPA (ALA is nearly useless to the body unless you eat TONS of turmeric), that’s an ethical, good GMO. Banning such a product for being artificially modified alone is ridiculous. We need more scalpels and fewer bone saws.

I do Ironmans and am a marathoner. For workouts less than 1 hour I use Nuun tabs. Over than I need to take in calories as well. For the calories I use gels to give me about 100 calories of sugar for the energy about every 30 minutes.

You can measure your body ph level using litmus paper to test saliva or urine (I believe this ph test is usually taken just after you wake up in the morning).
Its worth mentioning that different fluids in the body need to maintain different ph level not all of your body’s fluids need be the said ‘just above ph 7’ as mentioned.
Before embracing the sugar free sports drinks, research the dangers and benefits of suralose and aspartame vs sugar. Then decide if they are better for you. Read the literature from reputable sources then make what you believe to be the best decision for you. Don’t rely on hearsay or comments that don’t site a source; do the research and decide.
There is no research on cinnamon, it is just a spice. Sometimes a spice is a spice. There is no nutritional anything unless you eat a pound of it a day. That took away all the credibility from these people.

Interesting information. However, I have had a lot more success with a health turnaround by using the Wim Hof method (for inflammation) and eating sparingly through the day with a big blow out at night. When I was trying to turn things around through diet I was eating constantly albeit healthy/organic and I think that this is a huge part of the inflammatory problem. Zen comes across as a bit of a laser-eyed zealot but Dr Fagan/Saxe seem to talk a lot of sense.

Hi I am an Englishman living in Barbados I started to plant (from seed) a moringa plantation 2 months ago, I only have 18 young trees so far but I will be planting another 250 seeds soon. I plan to expand to several thousand trees in the future. I use moringa myself and have found that the fresh green leaves are far more potent than the dried powdered form and that heat i.e cooking reduces its benefits. To this end I will conduct experiments on vacuum packing the fresh leaves and also freezing them. I hope to be able to ship moringa leaves worldwide in the future.

Joanna you’re so lucky, here in america we have to drive 1 to 2 hours to go to a farmers market to get fresh produce. If we buy healthy things in a grocery store it’s extremely expensive and most people don’t think its expensive, but for a family of four with a big appetite and low budget it’s extremely hard. Coconut here would cost 3 to 2 dollars, this is why our country has high rate of obesity because “junk food” is cheaper. about a year and a half ago I weighted 80 kg and my height is 1.52 so I was pretty much overweight. Thanx to your exercise and motivational videos I lost 20 kg. Now I weigh 62 and I got at least another 10 to lose but 20 kg is a lot already and I am just so thankful to you!:) I changed all my clothes and hopefully will continue on doing so.

I’ve been waiting for this because the day before you posted your last video on water/hydration I had gone to see a kidney specialist regarding high creatinine levels (high for a male, and I’m a 49 yo female!). It has been high for the last 10+ years, all of which I have been very actively strength training and I am fairly muscular. But I was scared that I was permanently damaging my kidneys, which shocked me because I have only been tying to do my body good by working out all this time! When the specialist said I need to tone down the intensity and drink more water I was surprised because I am known by all to be obsessed Roth water. It’s pretty much the only thing I drink and I cannot leave the house Ruth out my water bottle. Sometimes I feel like I drink too much water! But the doctor said I need more?? When I told him I drink well beyond what the volume of water that most people probably consume, he suggested I drink something with electrolytes and up my sodium intake. (Btw is the sodium in processed snacks like crackers and beef sticks different than the sodium in sports drinks? Because I had actually been feeling like I was consuming much sodium in the way of snacks, but maybe not? I am confused on that. (I am also afraid of feeling bloated and cause water weight gain, which excess sodium tends to do to me.) All this to say I picked up some Propel powder drink supplements and have been adding them to my water during workouts. I don’t know if it is doing anything. I just know I need to get my creatinine levels down in 4 weeks before my follow up labs. Do you recommend Propel? I chose that brand because there is no added sugar. I believe they use sucralose. Bodyarmor does a lyte version which is night and day from the original, so your not being fair. Liquid IV is extremely expensive. I’m a physician and I’ve been using Nunn for years. You should review alkaline water, there are multiple natural electrolytes in the water.

Why is there a bottle of oil right there?! Seconds in, and the image is already confused. Fats should only be consumed in foods when they’re whole states, like nuts and seeds (I’d say avocados from a health perspective, but not from a green one. Its been two weeks since I’ve been adding the nuun sports tablets into my drinking water.
I noticed a huge difference. My constant headache is gone. And my joints don’t swell up as badly, and I suffered with sore joints and felt weak a lot of the time, have improved too, and the puffiness in my ankles and feet has gone down a lot.
I also noticed that I really dont drink as much water as I should being that I am active and do sweat.
That being said I did drink lots of water when I was thirsty. Only it never really satisfid my thirst, and always wondered what is wrong with me that water can’t quench my thirst.

for working out they say its glycogen levels that need to be replenished. I found after working out and having a mix of bananas, apples, blueberries, to replace it, i did feel better after a workout. Maybe a run needs the sodium tho. idk.

I have done many long distance events and have done well over the years. I will sometime go through 4-5 liters a day, and the electrolytes are critical. I have had climbing partners crash and burn in the middle of the climb because of improper hydration. I will usually have a couple of eggs each day and I am thinking that the salt is also helpful, since I will sweat a bunch on the hot days. I assume the direct salt just as good, but I didn’t hear any comments on that. Thanks, Randy

I used to be a fan of Body Armor before noticing the sugar content… now 7 eleven has their own version of Body Armor… per 12oz serving there is 60 calories, 15g of sugar, 170mg of sodium and a bunch of vitamins & minerals. And the flavors are good! Just another option.

I’m just a weekend warrior here, my outings can go for 2-5 hours, moderate to high intensity (hiking and biking, mostly), and I sweat a lot. Water and plenty of it does the trick for me. Those electrolyte drinks are just a marketing gimmick. The amount of electrolytes, salt, potassium, etc., lost in sweat is so minimal that the average person can replace it by eating a meal. And the average person gets more than enough salt and sugar in their typical diet every day, so there’s no need to supplement with these expensive so-called sports drinks. if you like them, fine, enjoy, but most of us aren’t getting the benefit they’re being touted for. We’re not going to suddenly turn into ripped elite athletes as shown in the commercials.

Is there a way to figure out how much sodium I need for my body and for my sport?
I paddle a dragon boat and we do a lot of intense paddling, training for races. When we take a break, I drink water, but by the taste of it I can tell I’m not getting what I need.
Is there a formula? Does body mass index figure into it? Can I just add some salt to my water bottle? How do I tell how much? And what about potassium in all this?
After my workout, I drink home made yogurt with sea salt, olive oil, curcuma and ginger.

I generally drink reverse osmosis-filtered water, but always add either Himalayan or sea salt, or concentrated lemon juice to replace the filtered-out minerals. Also, my main issue is low back/S.I. Joint/issues with sacrum/coccyx (40 year old injury), but it gets difficult to work these areas if/when I also have rib subluxation and associated muscle spasms! Can you explain ways to support/work one area that is in pain when another area is hindering progress and mobility?
Finally, ways to do treatments if you live alone. Examples: How to get your TENS unit pads on your back! Ways to move things/carry things when you are living alone? (Deep cleaning of the house comes to mind — moving the sofa to vacuum under it, etc.)
I know that overall fitness will help all these things in the long-run, but in the short-term, I tend to have setbacks to getting more fit by reinjuring myself with day-to-day stuff. Help!!

If you’re an athlete or doing a strenuous job, you will need the carbs in the sports drinks. Not for the calories, but because glucose is important for the process of storing sodium to rehydrate you.
Not all people who exercise are trying to lose weight…some athletes and sportsmen actually need all the sugar and calories they can get.

Problem is,kids are drinking some of these drinks as daily bevridge of choice. They have cavities,lots of cavities! Most people don’t do the heavy excersize that requires anything but water. I’ve had all those drinks with the exception of Nuun. I play recreational hockey. As a goalie I lose quite a bit of water. I have 2 bottles on top of the net. 1 with Gatorade and 1 water and alternate drinking from those during breaks. After I sometimes drink Liquid IV to replenish. I do this since I almost blacked out after playing hockey while driving home. Checked into an emergency room and after tests I was diagnosed with dehydration.

Take a PH meter and plunge it into any food item and learn the real ph of food. You can’t change the pH levels in your body! Everything in your body works as buffers! If you consume anything that is either so alkaline or so acidic that you break these buffer systems ( which is almost impossible unless you drink a concentrated acid or base) you will die! Your body is mostly acidic, stomach acid has a pH level of 1,5 to 3,5, and blood is one of the few things that are basic, even though it’s almost neutral! So many people actually believe that this is true, go study some chemistry before you speak about these things!

I always have cotton mouth and my teeth get pasty quick…. these are symptoms right? i drink so much water a day and eat healthy tho? ( a least two servings of veggies a day and 3 fruits.. cut back on dairy,grain and processed meat) any suggestion? could it be just stress? i also have racoon eyes

I may not agree with the list completely, but I think it’s more important to emphasize, that when we are talking about measuring levels, there is the blood and the urine. Our body is constantly working on keeping the blood ph around 7.4 and we should not worry about that. (usually a doctor involved at that point).
If you measure urine ph, you see what your body is getting rid of.
Most healthy people will deal well with any moderate consumption of different type of food, but in case you want to help your body, make changes to your diet. When people writing about trying to get their ph (I assume urine) as high as 8, I don’t think you have to go that far. After all the point of urine is to get rid of waste.
If you look at a lab test for urine, it says 6.0 (4.5-8). They expect the acid to be around 6.25 otherwise it would be (5-10) or so.
So help your body with consuming less of the bad stuff but don’t take Baking Soda as that may just disguises the problem but not solving it.
For acidity -I was drinking coffee when I saw this lol but its coffee since I was a child I’m central american and we drank coffee with sweet white bread as children… But for alkalies we juice greens and I def enjoy but mixes.

Well, I have Varsity Basketball practice that are almost 2 continuous hours. Cold water is great for flushing out the system, but sport drinks like Gatorade gives an extra pump of energy. The sports drink are easily burned through continuous intense practice.
Eggs are not acidic to the body. Free range egg whites have a ph of 9, yolk is 6.5. If you are worried eliminate the yolks or do mostly egg whites and you will be fine.
Most of this so called health gurus make one big omission. Did you forget that our stomach acid is at 1 level and our gall is at 11 at the litmus scale? this means even if you eat meat it would be balanced by our gall bladder. and if you drink alkaline water then yo stomach produces more acid. So its all how to balance not just eating those foods. I agree they helps but not 100%……. Exercis and eat a balanced diet. Some people is not fit for eating just greens and veggies due to their weak stomach and lung problems. Check yo doctor both western and eastern doctor will really help u to understand yo internal body functions and properties.

Interesting however many people with food issues are going towards pure carnivore and eliminating vegetables and fruits and nuts and grains with excellent results. Extremely simple and beneficial. Root Veggies/Tubers/green vegetables were used by the Ancient Saints ( Maharshis) of India and they lived a long and healthy life in forests. Alkaline food keeps a man healthy. The pH of human blood is alkaline( pH value between 7.35 and 7.45).

you forgot fruit!! as alkaline which watermelon is my favorite! I haven’t ate acidic food sense a long time but my favorite used to be salsa spicy condiments.
I absolutely love what Zen said the one that’s wearing the burgundy Blazer she spoke truth when she said that the parents sometimes say that their kids don’t eat certain stuff but you have control over that and what you choose to buy and put in your house that is so true I used to tell people that all the time as a RBT at my clinic when my clients would say that their children only eat certain things and not veggies and fruits I would always try to explain to them that you have control over what your child put in their mouths and I would try to encourage the parents to add fruits and vegetables in their lunch boxes when they would bring them to the clinic its definitely a major problem in America

Body amor had a lite version and its amazing. Low on sugars. It has a low count on sodium and a very high focus on potassium, which supposedly Na is actually THE mineral for rehydration.
Tomatoe V8 or pickle juice if you want high Na content. I think the v8 had about 900+ mg Na.
