Food Substitutions What To Do When You Run Out Of An Ingredient For Cooking Or Baking.
In today’s show, we will be sharing food substitutions and what to do when you run out of an ingredient for cooking or baking. We were briefly at the store this weekend and saw that many common items are not available at every store at the moment. If you didn’t stock up or if you have already run out, don’t worry! It’s often easy to substitute something else you DO have!
I’m going to show you specific ingredients you can use to substitute in foods when you run out of an ingredient. As most of you know I’m the queen of substitutions! Seems like it never fails With my chronic fatigue brain, 9 times out of 10 I run out of an ingredient and, as many of you have seen, my recipes turn out great!

The summer is hot and sometimes you need a sweet treat to get you through those long days. If you are like me, then you miss ice cream sandwiches. I am always so jealous when I see someone eat one and the last time this happened, I decided to make my own. They were so worth it and having them in your freezer is going to be a must after you try this recipe..
These were so fun to eat and my family all ate them sitting by the pool after a fun afternoon of swimming. It was such a refreshing and delicious snack. They also keep really well because they have to be frozen, so just wrap them individually and keep them in your freezer for when you need a sweet treat. It has been a really long time since I have eaten an ice cream sandwich but they were just as good as I remember them. My kids say they are now spoiled and just want homemade ones instead of the store bought ones. They absolutely loved them and we all had a great time eating them..
You can use any type of ice cream that you want. I made them with vanilla and chocolate chip ice cream. Just make sure that you are using gluten free ice cream. You can make your own ice cream but I didn’t have enough patience to do that so I just got store bought. They would be so good with so many different flavors and you can really have some fun putting together different flavor combinations then just the traditional vanilla. These little treats were so fun and so delicious to make. Just make sure that you make them a day or two before you need them because there is quite a bit time to freeze. Is Ice Cream Gluten-Free?
Some is and some is not. I’ll give you some gluten-free choices later in the video..
Ice cream is a food that is often made with added flavorings so you have to watch out for those. Check with your favorite brands to find out their status..
And of course, watch out for the other ingredients mixed in the ice cream. For example, Cookie dough ice cream is not gluten-free because of the cookie dough..
It’s okay to have ice cream with stuff mixed in as long as that ‘stuff’ is gluten-free..
Ice cream cones are not gluten free neither are waffle cones so go for a cup..
And if your favorite ice cream shop mixes ingredients in at your request watch out for cross-contamination!

Breyers: Chocolate, Chocolate Chip, French Vanilla, Mint Chocolate Chip, Natural Vanilla, Rocky Road.
Dreyers: Grand Chocolate, Grand Chocolate chip, Grand Neopolitan, Grand Rocky Road, Grand Vanilla.
Most Popsicles brand and ICEE brand frozen pops are safe too..
As always, check with these brands or others to make sure. Things change over time so what I list here may not always be an option..
