This is how I’m learning to maintain my weight and feel great. I now eat everything. I tossed the scale and I’m finally getting in touch with both hunger and cravings. I have chocolate almost every day with no guilt or weight gain.
im at the point where i cant even tell if im really hungry or just craving. the same goes to the amount of food i eat, i cant tell anymore when im full, dang
ThAnk you Abbey. These videos are so helpful for people suffering with some disorder eating.
Learning to cope with emotions outside of food is waaaaaaay easier said than done.
my IE journey!

Wow how awesome is this i just got in contact with carrieann she told me about your book which i will be getting really proud of the awesome person you are so cool, dont know if you remember me sam from ny
Mind boggling Information…great great thanks a lot for this episode and specially host is excellent who allow guest to complete freedom and don’t interrupt at all. Great work.
Loved this video! Really been getting into intuitive eating and it’s a beautiful process learning to trust the body again
But if I throw away my measuring tools I’ll get panic attack and buy new ones
I think I’ve been eating intuitively for months without knowing!!! I feel so good.
I have to keep my weight scale. I can think I’ve gained 5 pounds and jump on the scale to find out I’ve actually lost a pound. I also practice mindful eating and it’s helping me to lose weight but like most women I have “ugly days” or ” fat days” where unless I see the numbers on the scale I’m convinced I’m gaining. The scale has to stay.
I can’t throw away my scales ( for my weight) i worry too much, and they really help me, reasure me, stop my mind from going crazy thinking i’ve gained weight when i hav’nt…. ( I’m french by the way)
I’ve got something even better than “intuitive eating”. It’s called “eating”. I’ll be releasing a book about it soon.
This is NOT intuitive eating. This is the hunger and fullness diet. Real intuitive eating is about accepting your body exactly where it’s at and accepting that you might gain weight. And it’s about eating like a normal person. If you are trying to lose weight while doing this then that’s fine but it’s NOT intuitive eating.
Tips: the music is a bit to loud and the second camera feels awkward
Nice video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you ever tried Dinanlinson Natural Beauty Approach (should be on google have a look)? It is a good one of a kind product for learning what to eat to look younger minus the normal expense. Ive heard some decent things about it and my cooworker at last got amazing results with it.
is this right for clinically overweight? I am roughly 12 pounds “overweight” but I want to lose about 20-30 lbs. I understand this may take a while but is this possible with intuitive eating?
I am curious and determined to investigate this more. I got the Intuitive Eating book today and will watch more of your videos. My BED has been flaring lately very badly and I have lost and gained the same 15-20 pounds 3 times in the last 6 months without even consciously paying attention to it, that’s how stuck I am in this cycle. I am very unhappy with my weight but trying to lose it has never worked long term so I am ready to try something new. So happy I found your awesome videos here. They are something I can feel good about binge-ing!
I’m realizing i not only need to restore my relationship with food, but also with exercise. Any resources for that? I dread working out and not sure i’ll ever see it as fun or something that i would want to do other than to look better physically.. (which is the main reason for the way that i eat as well which i’m learning is not good all thanks your channel! looking forward to my new journey. I just purchased the book and can’t wait to get started)
I really wanna start intuitive eating but I just feel guilty whenever I eat ANYTHING and I got so used to counting and tracking.. although I’m only eating 1000-1200 calories per day which is wayy less than I should be so I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t overeat if I allow myself not to count
Sometimes I wake up in the morning not super hungry yet but I have to eat because I have class from 9-2 so I’ll be starving if I don’t. I have always wondered if eating when not hungry messes up intuitive eating. To me I say well I’d eat this exact meal at one point wether it be now or later so it would be fine. But who knows ♀️
Vegetarians don’t only eat beans and rice pretty stupid comment. I’m a vegan eating plenty of protein(140-175g day) and I’m much more in a better shape than other people in my age group.
Otherwise great interview!
Great words Kelsey, i think many many people needed to hear them including me today:). Vitek
The argument for weight loss would be a lot stronger if there were no thin people with diabetes and no fat people without it: but there are, billions in fact. Same with every disease out there. Maybe the problem isn’t the weight, but consistently not choosing what your body really wants. In my nutrition classes we talked a lot about malnourished fat people. Obese individuals who were not getting anything veg or fruit in their diets (other than white potatoes). While there may be no “bad” foods, eating NOTHING but meat, sugar and simple carbs doesn’t promote wellness.
Great info but tremendously nervous voice which is really not pleasant to listen. No offence, she seems to be a lovely lady but defiantly has performance anxiety!!
Thank you for this!! I’m on the exact same page. We literally are what we eat!
Thank you for the insightful speech! I haven’t had a problem with eating nutritious food but I do know I was lacking in one area, which was being mindful while I was eating. I’d usually be in front of my laptop screen or use my phone while I’m eating and that doesn’t let me stay attentive with my food.
I tried mindful eating for my lunch after watching this TedTalk! I saw, I smelled, & I tasted each serving. I get to also focus on my chewing & breaking down of the food. I realised that I was already feeling full much earlier than expected, so now I know I’ve got to reduce my serving the next time!
Beautiful message, Karen. Thank you for sharing this amazing information. <3
Beautiful message, Karen. Thank you for sharing this amazing information. <3
I love her shares in this talk! Mindful eating is so important… and striving for real balance inside… not perfection, balance.:) Love it! Hop over to see more about mindful eating on my channel.:)
Interesting concept and good information, but the talk wasn’t great. She’s so awkward and monotone that I wasn’t engaged.
My Takeaways:
1) check pH: 80 alkaline/20 acid
2) Mindful eating: use senses, smell, taste saliva(chew 20x): sit silently, feel: be aware of how it makes you feel during, after, before
People should stop commenting about how nervous she is even if they mean well. Come on now. Don’t be asses for no reason
After all the highly technical description of the problems, what’s the solution? Go for a walk. Nice!
Such a nervous woman. No idea what is she upto. Go get speaking classes please
Do a video of Fasting mentality? (I really feel like fasting for 1-2 weeks)
Great speech, well done Karen.I aplaud your courage. I’m in my 50s and could never stand on stage and give a talk like you.
very very late to the party abbey… but you have been a god send. I have lost 50 lbs in the last few years but I got so focused on a specific number on the scale and that caused me to stop weight lifting because the number wasn’t moving. I am trying to heal my relationship with food-it is so toxic. I have been binging your videos and I am starting to see the glass half full:) thank you for all of your advice!!
Hola Tom! Could you share a list of foods that Jillian Teta highly recommends for keeping your gut strong and healthy? She mentioned the Dandelion leaves, pineapple and kimchi. Could you add more foods and what those foods how those foods would impact the gut… I love your channel Tom, really delicious knowledge for the brain:)
Terrible public speaker. Clearly has good ideas but has no confidence.
Is she pregnant or something? Not that I have never been on the verge of tears about something important to me but I’m a little concerned that her food choices have affected her hormonal balance.
Really? you wanna look like this fatty bum bum?she’s gonna preach about food? buy her mirror
She’s so brave! Sounded nervous but pushed through with courage!
She got up there and fell apart. I really tried to learn all i could from this and i want to impliment mindful eating into my life and see food as fuel as opposed to a source of pleasure. This is a good start.
Horrible speaker. If she had spoken in many events I don’t see why she is still so nervous!!
Where does phrases like
“I hate this.”
“I can’t breathe.”
“I fucking hate sweating.”
“My tits are gonna kill me.”
“Ow. My joints”
Fall in exercise/movement mindset?
Great information. I was given a book titled Mindfulness for dummies and in it, there is a chapter called Mindfulness eating. It opened my eyes to a beautiful key to living life eating with mind and heart combined. Peace and Love folks! Mr17
This has to be the best, most uplifting video I have ever seen concerning eating disorder.. thank you! I will use this ❤️
Thanks Karen for sharing your wisdom! I loved the video. I wonder where I can find the PH tests to buy…
so ironic… i am watching this as i am eating #notverymindful🙁
Its okay to stop eating. It’s okay to look like a square. Stay positive!
This talk promotes healthy eating, which is inherently good.
But does so for the wrong reasons.
I’m guessing most who view this video will disagree with me given that most comments on this video are positive. So if you don’t like reading opinions which contrast to your own you should probably just stop reading now.
In my opinion this talk preys on those with poor scientific understanding.
This talk rings a lot of pseudoscience alarm bells…
1) She is promoting her business! i.e. she wants your money.
2) She describes scientific concepts but does not link them coherently.
This appears scientific but makes little since to trained scientists. The body tightly regulates pH between 7.35 an 7.45. It is able to do so because the blood acts as a buffer giving it an astounding, but well understood, capacity to not change in pH when acids or basis are added. Also we have kidneys to remove excess acid.
3) Her “evidence” is anecdotal. I am not doubting diet changes can help mental functioning but one story does not constitute as evidence.
4) She has no scientific qualifications. Those she does poses are from non-academic institutions whose sole purpose is to make money. The title of nutritionist, as well as health and wellness consultant essentially mean nothing. In contrast to the title of dietician which is generally controlled by regulatory bodies.
To me this diet seems nothing more than a diet focused on vegetables.
Vegetables = good. Alkaline diet = myth.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alkaline_diet#Evidence_base
If you would like to follow a diet that goes against “everything we know about the chemistry of the human body” (Ref American Institute for Cancer Research)
then do so, but please don’t pay anyone money to prescribe a diet plan.
Personally I find nutrition is quite simple, “eat food, mostly plants, not too much”.
You are 100% correct on this its sad more people dont know but its hidden from us so we cant be slaves to the government say what u want its the truth, cancer is the biggest money maker ever the pharm industry is sick research all the evidence its fucked. The world is waking up, watch the truth about cancer. Or research yourself.
I recently started mindful eating mixed with intermittent fasting. I always make sure I am sitting down, in a quiet environment and really chew my food (it brings out all the flavour). What I noticed is that you feel more satiated with less food.
Aww bless you you sounded so nervous but you still delivered some great info. I love that you talked about our body’s pH, its SO important. Its something that needs to be talked about more, it even has a huge effect on disease, including cancer.
I do like the theory of intuitive eating. But the last time I read a book about it, I then immediately went on the slim fast diet. It created such an urge.
I just cant stop thinking about food like i dont feel guilt or anything but its always in my head
i try to reject diet culture and eat intuitivley but i can’t help but feel guilt when i eat something thats not as nutritious. also for the past few months when i’ve eaten something not as nutritious and not feel guilty, my stomach gets pains and reacts where i feel bloated and sick. so i feel best eating nutritious foods but still want to not feel like i need to eat “clean” everyday so i’m very confused
Her stress level energies in this video seems high to me. Anyways, I’ll take a look at her book
Ironically, weighing my food and using a calorie&nutrition tracking app helped me in the ways you describe IE as helping. It’s simple, unemotional data for me & completely different than when I tried restricting too much and then binged, and didn’t see any results. I know how my choices are effecting me and can trust the process. I know eating at maintenance will keep my body the same and eating more or less will change my weight in a predictable way. One thing I really like about the app I use (Chronometer) is that I can see the past seven days averaged it’s helped me realize how overeating one day won’t completely ruin my diet. Different strokes for different folks! A lot of people need to take a step back from obsessing over external data points but that doesn’t mean the tools should be demonized like I sometimes see.
thank you for making these kinds of videos and talking about it in a simple and “normal” way.
I’ve heard people talk a lot about the bodies ‘set point’ and how we have a range of around 5-20lbs that is where each individual body is healthiest. I have recently begun working out more and doing a bit of strength training, purely because it’s something I enjoy and it’s a good way for me and my partner to find more time to spend together. My question is this, if I lose fat but build muscle (as a by product of the added exercise, it isn’t a hard and fast goal of mine as I do try to live intuitively) am I still at my set point? for example, if I weigh 160lb now and in 6 months I still weigh 160lb but my body has changed because that weight is now muscle instead of fat, is that still my set point? or will it then change? Hopefully someone in the comments can answer this!
Can you discuss how BMI’s aren’t always an accurate depiction of health, specifically with a focus on how race and gender might skew this metric?
I love this video!!! I have been exercising every day or every other day because I thought. I feel good after I exercise and been writing down how I feel after I eat. And it’s helped. The. To see this video where I’m doing those things is in it makes me feel good too.
I love your message. I am so tired of the mental struggle, anxiety, and depression that comes along with dieting. Thank you for focusing on behaviors and easing into these changes, so refreshing. I already feel better.
Wow. This show really contributes to saving the world. Thank you.
Yes!! That book and another one called “Full” (a Christian perspective on being thankful for food but not idolizing or fearing it) helped me to finally in my 50’s to have a healthy, joyful perspective on food (and the necessity of dessert) and my awesome, amazing, self healing, forgiving, strong body. I have made friends with the flabby tummy that produced two beautiful people. Exercise is fun again. And the fact that my body easily settled into a comfortable size 6 was a by product rather than the goal. Never felt better nor enjoyed food more I feel like I’ve been freed from diet prison, and I’m (mostly) reformed. Focus on gradually adding beneficial habits and being kind to yourself and those around you. Celebrate the freedom and ability to provide nourishing food for your family and others. We are living in a time and place of abundance. Deprivation makes no sense here.
If anyone needs it you can remove most of the calorie info in the cronometer app. They will show while entering the foods, but once you hit enter they don’t show calories in the day summary, beside the food, or in the meal summary. I changed “energy” to “water” for the meal/item because it needs to show something but you can pick a different micro or macro nutrient.
so i need severe therapy. I have previously suffered from suicidal thoughts and I can’t afford a therapist but watching your videos help so thank you.
Ok…you can totally sing! Such a pretty voice I love your videos and all the info. Always upbuilding as well
If you don’t recommend this until you are almost cured, what do you recommend to get to the point of intuitive eating?
So I’m going back and watching all your videos now. So the reasons I wear a Fitbit are based around having a rare genetic condition (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome + comorbidities) that affects every part of my body. The heart monitor aspect has paid for itself 10 times over in just a few months in regards to health insights for both myself and my cardiologist. The steps counter allows me to track how mobile and active I am so I can compare with my pain and symptom trackers on my phone. The calorie burn calculator took me by surprise, but it’s been a great way to make sure I’m eating enough and to better identify hunger cues from boredom or emotional eating. I can look at it and go “Hey its been a few hours since I last ate and I’ve been burnt through more calories than normal today, so it’s hunger I’m feeling and not other things”
how do i make sure I am watching the series of these videos? I tried finding it in your channel as a series but now I am just going through whatever is on Autoplay. I really need this series!!!!
Hi! Can you please explain how “muscle weighs more than fat”? 1kg of muscle = 1 kg of fat.
I don’t trust my intuition. I was 13 and ate half a cheesecake pie every other day. Intuition is what has gotten me fat In the first place.
I have always been overweight and about 2 years ago I have developed anorexia. I am still not quite recovered because I am scared that if I stop counting calories I would become overweight again. I am at a healthy weight but I still do not have my period back. What would you recommend, because I feel like ypu have such a good relationship with food.
I went vegan for ethical reasons two years ago but I have to admit over time it also made me paranoid about eating animal products and that if I did I was going to gain a crazy amount of weight back. I don’t want to stop being vegan but I do have a lot of diet mentality thoughts lately:(
Calorie counting and using my Fitbit has helped me understand my nutrition and how I feel and also helped me to realize that I tend to under eat a lot without trying to unless I’m eating out. I lost 10lbs to make me feel more comfortable in my body by calorie counting and now I do it to maintain weight. “Breaking even” on my calories according to my Fitbit to maintain my weight has helped me to understand when I feel satisfied so I don’t end up over eating or under eating. I know calorie counting isn’t for everyone and can be triggering and obsessive but for me it’s something that works. These days I try to eat intuitively and eat what I’m craving and the counting is just to make sure I’m being healthy about it.
Hey Kati, love your videos ^^ Could you make a video about Dissociative Fugue please? Or maybe recommend some helpful literature?:3
Spore forming probiotics stimulate your own bacteria to grow. taking lactobacillus and bifido are just a bandaid
Instantly became offended when you said the effects of restrictive dieting i felttttt that.
I used to be “i feel guilty eating this cuz i didnt work out” but now i feel “damn my gainssss” when I cant make it to the gym
I did start going to the gym to lose weight but after a week, my mentality switched from “I have to lose weight” to “I wanna be strong” and now working out makes me happy and no longer feels like a choir
I’m definitely in the camp where calorie counting led me on my journey into learning about nutrition and a form of intuitive eating. I may have regained 10 lbs of the 20lbs I had lost, but my digestive health improved beyond expectations, which I feel is more important.
Ironically, I got a Noom ad before this video. It claims to not be a diet, but when I used it, it totally contributed to further messing up my relationship with food/exercise. It’s really really hard to reject that mentality, when I now can’t stop my brain from automatically seeing the calories in the food I eat or as green/yellow/red, which is how Noom categorizes it.
I only eat when i’m hungry, exept before my period. I wonder why that is. I never diet and people say i eat little, but i guess i dont need as much, since my weight is the same as in my teenage years. Also: i eat all the bad stuff, and find that only alcohol will make me gain a bit weight if i drink more than usually for a period of time
hey Abbey, I don’t know if you already have a video on this if so, please point me in that direction, but what is your take on reverse dieting?
At age 52, I finally ditched the diets, and for the first time in my whole life, my weight easily settled into a comfortable range with no drama. I focused on small habits that added up over the course of a few years including daily walks and regular, low key strength and cardio. I feel like I’ve been turned loose from the hamster wheel. I look back and wish I’d learned to let go of the miserable state of diets when I was young. At least I can look forward to being a fit, content, energetic granny one day, Lord willing. My husband has always had a healthy relationship with food, so I saw it modeled, but I just believed the lies being packaged and sold. He never understood why. I’m not sure why, either, looking back.
Think positive and walk and it will answer all your questions till ibs and ibd..plzzzzzzz believe i have gone through…..
why tweaking your diet….?? sounds like a drug addict or someone who smokes weed. Irritating to hear the word “like” too much
Hi Abbey! I just want you to know that this series helped me so much. I have a really bad relationship with food because of how much i try to restrict myself with certain things, and also the fact that my mentality with nutrition if horrible with everything Ive learned. This helped me so much and honestly I think itll help me in the long term. I think ive fully recovered thanks to you.
It’s okay! Anxiety can get to the best of us… and I relate to this ted talk a lot. Good job getting your points across! It would have been easy to just walk off stage but you pulled through!!! That’s awesome!
Many people nowadays are trying to figure out the best method to drop weight. Then again, being able to discover a diet plan that can work for you is tough to find. A very important thing you need to comprehend is that a diet that works for one person might not operate for another. And that means you must know what your getting into before you begin one of these diets. Therefore we have opted to offer you a fantastic look at the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet. This may provide you enough info to learn if this really is something which is appropriate to your needs. Read more here https://truehealthreport.com/xtreme-fat-loss-diet-review/
I’m dealing with BED, and these videos have helped me incredibly. I’m still wearing my FitBit every day, however, I’m using it more for the reminders to move and the sleep/water tracking more than ‘calories in/out’. Using the sleep tracker to see how much/little sleep I’ve gotten affected my hunger cues during the day has been quite interesting. I think the newer versions also have cycle trackers for people who menstruate, which has helped me see how my cycle impacts my sleep and resulting hunger as well.
No, for me I had to ditch the calorie counting app(s). The foods I was logging in even if it was healthy the number I saw was freaking me out and I think that it apart of the apps logic, such as apples and almond butter as a snack seeing the calorie number add up to my already eaten food for the day was hard and if I went 100 calories over I felt very self critical and than the world was ending because I was trying so hard to loose weight. I was using these as a teenager and it really had an impact on my mindset even today that I am working on improving. But I can only think what these are doing to teens who are younger than me who are starting the apps. They need to be ultimates in my opinion
Yes Abby, Yes! I know I need to lose weight because of my health. My doctor has said so but I have been told this since I was 13 (a great thing to tell a 13 year old.) All of the things you listed happened. Now with the help of a therapist and listening to my body over the past year I have been slowly loosing the weight in a healthy way for the first time in my life. I know this doesn’t happen for everybody but my goal was just to eat healthy and listen to my body and so far so good. Thank you
What do you do if you have physic goals? Should they be dropped? Because it seems the only way to progressively build muscle and then lose fat is to adapt your calories accordingly?
I like hearing you say not to use a scale…I’ve always been against those as any kind of measurement. I hate going to the doctor and they have to weigh you.
Can you eat intuitively and follow keto? Because Im not planning to drop it but still debating is that considered as restriction? Since Im not eating carbs…
Abbey, thank you for this series! My therapist recommended I check you out, as I have orthorexia, and am also dealing with the beginnings of IVF. I appreciate your insight and advice, and I am trying to let go of my disordered tendencies, as I can. You are helping me so much, with the videos and the other resources that you provide.
I have a question around adopting Intuitive Eating when the medical field is so heavily steeped in using BMI to make snap judgements about health. I have been “overweight” or “obese” most of my life, and while I have had to refocus on adopting healthy foods from time to time, I still end up having to go back to programs like WW to keep my doctors from telling me I am doing something wrong. How can we fight back when our doctors continue to use this arbitrary scale?
this is great:) it took a long time but I started doing this myself about 5 years ago. it made such a big difference in how I view food and weight, and It made me realize how negative my relationship with food and my weight was. it also really helps when I’m encouraging my husband and kids to make good choices with food too.
Very excited to eat intuitively one day after I’ve recovered
The level of knowledge shared in this episode is insane. I was taken a breath in between the questions for this queen of knowledge as she pushed through so much info in such a short period of time. Thanks Again! The human mind & body fascinates me more & more everyday. Time to respect & look after it a little more now & in the future & get waking & chewing more!
Can you lose weight while intuitive eating? Or is this more of a maintenance style of eating?
Should I continue to count macros while losing weight? I can relate to you when you said you used to spiral. It seems macro counting messes up my relationship with food, and therefore body image.
I’m happy I don’t have diet thinking when it comes to exercising anymore. But through your videos I understood that I’m not yet completely over diet thinking regarding food. Thanks for helping me on my journey on overcoming this. Your channel opened my eyes.
I can’t seem to lose weight without diet and exercise I’ve tried just dieting or just exercising and even just making healthy choices with exercise.
Love this Watched it twice just to make sure I got the most out of it.
All I can think of when I watch this is how bad the biological mother of this 6th grader must feel when she watches this: it makes her look like her sister was a better guardian for this boy. And maybe she was? But I’m not sure I’d be bold enough to shout it from the rooftops and hurt a family member. She says the only thing she changed was “his diet,” but she also said this boy was sitting down to eat with a family breakfast and dinner every day for the first time. While I agree whole food are VERY important, other things she did right may be overlooked. Maybe he got outside more? Did she also limit his tv time? Maybe his mom let him watch tv whenever he wanted, and Ms Mayo did not. Does that make sense?
I really, really, reaaaaaally needed to find your channel. MAN I did not want to cry at work lmao. Thank you for all of your knowledge <3
Weight gain is a SYMPTOM of an underlying imbalance. Not a CAUSE of disease!
I really just want to say thank you. This is incredible. I’ve always eaten this way and every time I even mention it I feel shamed. Because I’m not ‘restricting myself enough’ or ‘being clean enough’ or whatever the hell is said to me. Theres been some weeks I want to eat more fruit, particularly bananas after working out really hard. And I have never stopped myself from doing that because of a ‘diet’. My weight only changes with how much I exercise. After an injury I gained a little bit of weight, but not a lot because I simply didn’t feel as hungry and honored that. While friends, family etc gain much more weight because they refuse to change how they eat because it is a ‘rule’ they have to follow. Then freaking out about said weight gain. I’ve never ‘restricted’ myself beyond simply making sure the amount of food I eat is ‘portioned’, but even that is sort of loose basis. If I’m still hungry then I will eat, if I’m not then I won’t. It’s that simple. I love the fact in other videos you’ve talked about how you have chocolate in your pantry or ice cream in your freezer. I have that as well, and I’ve never felt guilty for having the occasional bowl of ice cream. Yet my weight is still well within the healthy range for my genetics. The reason I came across your videos is because I’d watched way too many dieting adds and was starting to rethink the way I’m eating. I’m very glad I came across your channel, because it backed up what I’ve been doing with intuitive eating and has kept me from going down the fad diet path. Thank you.
What if you are interested in manipulating your body in some way through eating and exercise? Maybe not losing weight and dieting, but toning your body or getting stronger? I workout to feel good but I also like the fact that I am able to build muscle and tone my body. I had an eating disorder in the past so I don’t know if this goal is coming from a bad place and I should just focus on feeling good?
I would LOVE to see an Abbey video about Weight Watchers! I think there is SO much to dive into there. I know she did the video about the WW kid’s app, but I want more!
I’d love if you would review Katie Dunlop from LoveSweatFitness!
I really appreciate your opinion and how you acknowledge that some things like calorie counting can be negative, but also work for some people. I know from my personal experience its been super negative, but currently, its been improving my mental health. I used to be unhealthy and a lot heavier, I lost 20kg and had to re learn how to eat again. At first I became obsessed with tracking and it was really negative to my mental health, but now I just use it as a guide to make sure I’m eating portions that arent too big, and its keeps me on top of my snacking behaviour. I struggled losing weight because of the “sneaky calories” so logging my food helped me realise this was a bad habit as I was eating when I wasn’t hungry. But now I’m doing so much better and seeing better progress at gym and personal health. This worked for me, and may not work for everyone so please seek medical advice first and I hope everyone the best with their health
I appreciate that you’re a voice for a healthy relationship with food and body positivity, but don’t you think you downplay the obvious causal relationship between obesity and comorbodities? Don’t you think it is irrefutable that extreme obesity increases risk of some chronic diseases and death?
I was stupid and I did the military diet for 3 days. I lost 3 kg but after 7 day of my normal way of eating i had gained 8kg and now i can’t lose this 8 kg.
I had dieted several times in a very restrictive way. Now in my 30s when I tried to start restricting calories it MESSED WITH MY MIND! All of a sudden I was in a binge restrict cycle. It was scary. Here to explore other options. It’s so emotional. I added these videos to watch later weeks ago, glad I felt ready to watch them today. Hoping to start meeting with a nutritionist very soon. Thank you for using your voice!
I was Keto for a year and have now been Carnivore for more than a year. I’ve resolved all of my health issues eating this way, and also lost 100# and (I don’t even know how many now) inches. I’ve been overweight since my first pregnancy 37 years ago and SAD weight loss diets just ultimately resulted in gaining more weight because of the yo-yo effect. I honestly could lose another 100# if I was going to be in the accepted weight range for my height and accepted BMI. But, I feel great, I’m healthy even if I’m still overweight, and I absolutely eat intuitively on Carnivore. I eat when hungry, stop when satisfied. I don’t feel deprived, punished, and am not looking for an end to the diet because I’m not on a weight loss diet, I’m on an eating plan for health and don’t have a weight goal so I won’t stop eating this way because I meet some arbitrary weight loss goal. I also don’t feel like a failure if I don’t meet that arbitrary weight goal.
Binge watching over here but thanks again for this informative video!
Thank you for this! We indeed have all we need to succeed inside of us. I’m looking forward to my transformation!!!
When we say “muscle weighs more than fat”, I’ve never really understood that because obviously, a weight measure of anything weighs the same as that measure, a pound for a pound. But does it just mean that muscle is more dense so takes up less space for the same weight measure?
slurp: Why should our bodies not ever want cake or ice cream?why so black and white!
“Sometimes it’s just physical… you go to India, get a parasite, and you’re messed up for a while”. Yep, I ticked that box.
Whatever she has explained is so ingrained in the asian culture. Especially Ayurveda, the teachings in hinduism and buddhism and also other japanese and chinese traditions focuses on the mind and body correlation, sciences is now going back to all the basic teachings that they considered backward life styles.
If you really wish to inculcate the things she has said, please try to read about the teachings of ayurveda and buddhism, despite your religion preference or beliefs I encourage you to understand asian culture from an open perspective it is the most advance thing.
Once your body is regulated than u can listen to your body cues. Sometimes we do want something.
PROCESS of intuitive eating is to talk to a guided practiionar.
TRACK than you’ll gradually intuitively eat.
NOT FOR people who have eating disorders. You need to be mentally and physically ready. Your body is so confused and binge eating is when you eat to excess. TWO YEARS it can take to balance leptin levels.
FOOD AS FRIENDS!!!!!
I’ve been researching what sort of diet to follow during my health journey. I noticed when I tried to count calories, I would have this intense need to binge. I’ve looked slimmer at a heavier weight, so I was rather confused. I thunk it was due to muscle tone. So far, I’ve just changed the quality of my food, as well as make sure I’m more hydrated. That way, I don’t over eat.
the best turned out to be the fast way to get rid of pounds is the https://truehealthreport.com/flat-belly-fix-review/
I am very glad I found an app in development called “you ate”.
You set goals. Any goals. It does not track amounts or calories. You can take a picture or write what you ate and then set If this meal was in alingment with your goals or not with no other connotations whether it’s good or bad.
I mean I’d love eating fully intuitive but my ADHD prevents me from remembering or being in tune with myself. So I use this app to help me remember what I ate and whether I liked it. And when.
So that when I go for half a bag of doritos i can go “why?” Instead of just doing it and feeling nauseous.
Often I’m tired or would prefer to eat something else.
I tried undereating, it wasn’t fun because of hunger and the guilt when you give in to cravings. I’m now doing intuitive eating paired with some training. I’d like to, at some point, not care about measurements and just live healthily.
I think having self-control is incredibly important… when it comes to portion size.
Hey, this is unrelated to the topic of this video but I had a question. How do I know if a therapist is right for me? Are there any general cues that can help me figure it out? Because I’ve had 3 therapists so far and the two I felt most at ease with at first, who seemed happier and more friendly, ended up not really helping me; whereas the other one I always felt a bit awkward around and they were quieter, but I felt like we got more done and it helped me more to see them.
Also, if I decide I want to stop seeing a therapist or just not make a second appointment because I feel the fit isn’t right, how do I tell them (I get super anxious about it)?
Love your videos!
I’m trying to have a baby and it’s not going well. I have PCOS and a history of disordered eating. I’m finally in a place where I don’t hate myself for my weight. Now, every dr I’ve seen has told me I’m too overweight to ovulate on my own (I have never had a normal regular period at any weight.) and just “losing 10% of your weight can jump start your body to ovulate.”
It’s really hard and frustrating because I want to be a mom, but I don’t want to hate myself and my body anymore and it’s been really difficult.
Today I was of course intuitively eating and I felt i ate a bit to much:0 but hey it always balances out:)
It would be interesting to hear what Abbey thinks about Slimming World and if from a dieticians point of view it’s a good way of learning to eat intuitively and what is good/not so good about it.
I am regularly seeing my dietian and she recommended me Abbey’s channel. This is exactly what she has been teaching me. Waiting for the rest of the series, it looks super informative:)
Calorie Counting. I was in a local supermarket and picked up a packet of Granola. I had a wee look at the nutritional information and saw 822 Calories in 45g. The muesli beside it in a similar package had 122 Calories in 45. I don’t weigh my food so it is likely that I would eat more than 45g with lots of milk, and most of that is added sugar. That makes a breakfast of well over 1000 Calories in just the cereal. It might be bad to count calories but it is even worse to ignore them?
Taking a break from diet culture and/or intuitive eating. Can we talk about heart burn? Is there anything I can do about the extreme pain I am experiencing. I am starting a food diary today and documenting symptoms but can I reset my body’s reactions to foods at all? For example I can eat plain lean proteins, veg and rice for an extended time and slowly reintroduce foods if it will get rid of the pain! Not sure if this is a good plan either way.
Yes! I loved the brain segment. The psyche is everything when it comes to disease. Would love to see someone who is familiar with German New Medicine on the show. Now that would blow your mind.
Calorie counting has played a part intermittently. I don’t do it consistently. But if I find myself eating somewhat randomly, feel like I’m hungry at weird intervals (as compared to my regular) then I go back to calorie tracking. Like I’m not trying to lose weight, but I want to understand what is happening.
I think a better name would be ‘mindful eating’
A lot of people are coming from a. History of disordered eating and I know from personal experience someone telling me to eat whatever I want (mentally as well as physically) would lead to emotional eating and sometimes a binge.
I’ve been finding it helpful to particularly think about how I will feel physically after eating something (eg will I have more energy or will this make me lethargic)
There’s so many other factors people don’t talk about which contribute to our ability to intuitively eat and I wish it was spoken about more
Side note: I found the end part about diet talk vs healthy talk really useful
hi Abbey! You mentioned how we are all different, and we might not be hungry for breakfast what is your stance on skipping it all together? I’ve never been a person who eats regular breakfasts. I can do it if I force myself, but it never comes naturally. It feels stupid, that I should force myself to have it every day for the rest of my life, when it never sticks as a part of my routine. In most mornings, I don’t even think about food. I’m happier to eat in the evening and that’s when I actually get the desire to eat.
Both dieting and healthy eating instructions usually give the ultimatum that breakfast is the most important meal and you are gonna gain weight and binge and be unhealthy if you don’t eat it. I’m aware of some studies linking weight gain/higher weight and not eating breakfast, but I have no idea of the quality and generalization of those studies. I doubt there could be correlation without causation.
Is paying attention to portion size part of diet mentality? I am not trying to eliminate foods but eat in moderation.
I just got out of Walden (a php for eating disorders) i was there for a restricting type ed but im fat. You say listen to your doctors well the doctors there tell me to do intuitive eating and haes while my pcp tells me I need to loose weight. Who do I listen too?
Some people need to lose weight in order not to die, specially if they are 200-300 kg. So the damage from diet is preferable than dying from food addiction… I understand your point, but some people need this desperately in order to live. I understand that my struggle with 58 kg is bullshit for some people and I agreed this does not mean I am unhealthy, but if you feel bad in these kg, its better to try to improve your way of eating. This is what I try to do now. Just trying to be in a better shape and health.
Awesome content ❤️ Thank you Kati
My biggest take-away: food isn’t good or bad.
Every food serves a purpose in our lives.
This made me think of simply having preference based on what I like and my personal intentions for myself. A subtle yet profound breakthrough. Thank you
And… what if all of my emotions have a place and serve a purpose in my life too??? what if instead of being overly active in trying to control my experiences aka the people / places & things that cause me to feel a certain way, I can simply observe what I’m feeling, why I feel it, and explore the question do I want to create the experience of feeling a certain feeling again or not? (Be accountable, take action to care for myself, change me if need be)
Thank you for your kindness and generosity. This type of caring has been / is extremely elusive. You are appreciated ❤️
This is such an important video I can’t even! As someone who is a regular gym goer (amateur natural bodybuilder) I totally understand the anxiety that goes with all the diet/nutrition. I’ve finally had enough of it, weighing and measuring and then when it comes to ‘that time of the month’ my cravings go absolutely wild, because I restricted myself the previous weeks. I’m tired of all the counting and endless strict structure so I’m going to start trusting my body more and relax.
This lady is not in complete understanding of these topics, she simply recites bits and pieces to wow the layperson, she doesn’t quite know, the thing about the salami and cheese tells me she is emotionally influenced and biased, those foods are not in line with the scientific consensus, the most well researched and informative book on weight loss is (how not to diet),it’s not going comfort you to hear most of it because he won’t pander or tell you what you wanna hear but the truth is rather displeasing at times
She’s plainly very smart but the “just got out of an over chlorinated pool and didn’t have a comb” look in combination with the vocal fry and the incessant head movements make her seem a little unhinged, like.
Interesting interview! The autonomic nervous system is part of the PERIPHERAL nervous system though, not the central nervous system (which is just the brain and the spinal cord https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classification_of_peripheral_nerves). It’s important to get these things right to get respect from the medical/scientific community. That being said, I do think she has a lot of fascinating and valuable clinical experience.
7:45 Wow, she’s onto something there. We all tend to go overboard with healthy shit and still be extremely hungry.
Experts agree on what type of diet is good for us! Dr. Gundry calls himself a ‘Veg-Aquarian!’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VUwjJNwY-I
Eating dandelion is certainly new to me. Thank you for this interview Tom.
How weird that I’m watching Shane’s series and then search intuitive eating on YouTube as I’m reading the book, and your video pops up!
First of all, the quality of this video is amazing! I love the minimalistic set-up and minimal pop-ups. I hope you make more of these types of videos. They help to not overload my brain with pistures and colors but still provide life-savingly useful information!
Second, I am definitely going to check out this book. I think it will really help me because I’ve been struggling with food lately. I hope I can get my hands on it here in Russia.
As someone who likes to train, how can I be sure I’ve got an adequate protein intake for recovery if I’m intuitively eating/ditching calorie counting?
And having va$$ines will definitely make all this much worse and is often the original cause in the baby and child. The ingredients in these shots is absolutely ghastly!
Only a third of the way through and about to give up. The constant use of “like” is driving me batty. If I had to take a shot each time I’d have already succumbed to alcohol poisoning. When did the use of filler words become so common and even worse acceptable.
Interestingly, before seeing this interview and without anyone ever telling me about forest bathing I had already been preparing to begin walking into the forest. My body naturally feels a deep desire to with the understanding that it will be calming and healing for me for the exact reason that Jillian Teta is mentioning. I also feel it will create a pathway for many answers I seek.
Increasingly I heavily feel the forests calling on me, inviting me with open arms for some great intent, so it is interesting to see Jillian not only talk about it, but mention it as not only a common practice, but the one thing she feels people should do that would have the biggest impact on their health and therefore lives.
On my way to work I see breathtaking forest-mountains and have taken pictures of them that do them no justice, especially emotionally. I feel the warm energy from the mountains repeatedly inviting me there not only from those forest-mountains, but any forest I have the privilege of driving by or through. I feel we are all connected to nature as it is where we all began and I desperately look forward to beginning my forest bathing very soon as I begin to rebirth.
Oh man, what diet in the world is going to help with that “like, like, like” awful vocal fry?
Very interesting. I never thought about pH levels of our bodies.
Mindfulness eating makes a lot of sense. Thanks Karen.
Thank you Jillian, Tom, and the awesome Impact team for these life changing interviews. I took the Adverse Childhood Experience Score (ACES) evaluation mentioned at 31:45. 8 out of 10 was my score. Then I read how this stuff has a higher chance to give me a variety of health issues. Wow! Great information. I am going to proactively deploy countermeasures those issues in a way that someone who has their genome mapped would watch out for certain predispositions.
I think your advice is spot on. I’ve been using my intuition to get away from disordered eating and diet mentality and intuitively I was getting advice almost identical to what you were saying regarding food and exercise mentality as well as some other things.
I’m pretty sure this is one of my favorite guests to date! She’s woke in the very real terms of “woke”.:)
Im 57 (on my journey to 150) and have come to many of the same conclusions having been hypersensitive to emotion and mental awareness (2 of my labels are bipolar 2 and adhd)…i will be reading her work
I’ve long been well known in the dieting as well as fitness profession for more than a decade and in that time I’ve generated a outstanding trustworthiness in which I’m incredibly proud of. The thing that I’m making an attempt to express is this, they put in the better part of a year tweaking and assessing the 3 week diet regime before they ultimately made it available to the public. in this process, they made sure that every little thing was covered knowing that not a thing was left out. https://goo.gl/8VvnBJ
I’m finally ready to put the restrictive diets on the back burner and take on intuitive eating to finally, finally beat my decade plus long extremely disordered, binge eating. I’ve mostly ditched the tools I do love my Apple Watch though! I don’t take the calorie count seriously, and it reminds me to move! I don’t feel bad at all if I don’t hit the calorie “goal,” but the idea of closing the ring by moving more helps!
Great speech but the woman sounded like she wanted to cry from the very begining. It was rather annoying actually.
Otherwise, very informative and interesting.
Awesome show. But they always talk about the Microbiom as only Bacteria, but don’t forget the Fungus!!! and the Viruses. We all know that the ‘Yeast’ is the beast.
Yes right, walk in morning on green grass will work like magic
Hey Natacha I love your videos! I currently am dealing with a lot of self image issues. I had started strength training last November and I actually started to get more lean by changing my diet up a bit learning what was healthier but I started to allow myself to have treats each day. This led to me gaining a few pounds and was told to start counting macros from my trainer. This made me gain even more weight because I was obsessed with the next time I was going to eat, what I wanted to eat, and it made me eat super clean and then have a seriously bad binge every couple of weeks or so. What would you recommend to me then regarding my diet? I am trying to cut weight but I don’t want to constantly be thinking about food and I want to allow myself to have a treat now and then without the need of a binge. I’m so unsure.
Just can’t stand her, sorry. Something about the way she talks.
Wow. The sympathetic overdominance concept / seesaw analogy resonates a ton!
Abbey, I’ve just started my IE journey and this video is brilliant!
I’m heading out for my walk with my two doggies now. Thank you very informative!
People only help you to a certain extent she doesn’t even say what meals or foods she used she omitted it
Most of calory trackers are suggesting me that I should be eating 1000 kcal a day. I always change it to at least 1400-1500, but them the tracker tells me that I will be loosing 2kg in 5 months. They make me obsess on the caloric intake, make me fell guilty when I eat over my caloric budget. But they also teach me how much calories are in my favourite foods and how I can limit those calories, but lowering the amounts of oils or simple carbs. Sooo, I have a love=hate relationships with calory trackers.

Amazing video! Up here at Y&S FOOD! we love to notice this amazing contents. We make Travel & Food videos too, around the world, so we are constantly looking for inspirations and so techniques. Thank You.
She lost me at Salami… but I hope the rest of the interview goes well
How do you know when you’re TRULY hungry? Sometimes I think I’m hungry but I don’t know if maybe I just want to eat and am justifying it in my mind by saying that I’m hungry. I honestly can’t really tell sometimes if it’s true hunger or just in my mind.
Game changer for really understanding probiotics and what to look for, no one has ever broken it down like that “What to look for in a probiotic [ 37:00]” thank you
Good for your guts (minerals and mucilage) https://youtu.be/vjGFRZSiKYc
all dualistic endeavour is arising out of self hatred, There is no success or failure there is just a feedback feedforward loop. Putting a label on it is limiting a limitless universe.
Ok, this is what I was looking for. although I havent seen any men doing this? is there a reason there are no men doing it? anyway, I instinctively know it just can’t be as complicated as the mainstream makes it out to be. the gurus have us so bamboozled, we don’t know right from left. wow, what you have done is confirm something my instincts already know. the other day I was “dieting” and I got this massive craving for a McDonalds burger. (im a vegetarian at heart) I could not believe how strong the pull was to eat this. so instead of fighting it., I said to myself, that “just maybe my body is trying to tell me something'” ie. I had no guilt.
so I went and had a normal portion of food. not a giant burger but a double cheeseburger, which would fill up a normal adult around 450 cals.. and it did. in fact all day i had been craving this and because i was on a strict carb diet, I was hungry all day. then when i ate the fatty meat, my craving stopped, my body settled down and in fact I felt really good.
so I figured I would start eating keto again( I had done this in the past) and today I started to crave healthy cereals. but im on LFHC so once again I questioned if this was my body telling me something, and lo and behold I had a “normal” bowl of wheat based cereal and I feel full.
so this led me here, because my body and heart is screaming at me, “losing weight and eating cannot be this difficult!” Then it clicked with me…”aaaaahhhhh, I have become so confused I have stopped listening to my body”! I know its not insanely complicated like then keto, and carb proponents say and our bodies know, just like our bodies know how to breathe. I will go back to eating healthy and eat until I am full with foods my body are telling me to eat, even if I do not lose weight. because at 52, ive done it all. there is nothing I havent tried and Im ready to let go of the control…
Fitness trackers are the devil!! I avoided them for years but finally “gave in” and got a watch that was also a fitness tracker. I didn’t want one bc I was worried it would make me crazy, and behold, within 72 hours of purchase I was going up and down the stairs all night long to get as many steps as possible. I returned it the next day. Bah-bye!!!
Is it just me, or does she look like she’s constantly close to crying?
walking in nature definitely has to do with exchanging electromagnetic frequencies with the earth, and getting our bodies corrected after such excess EMF exposure these days
the shocking reality is that you don’t have to travel abroad to get yourself a parasite/worms… the world has gotten smaller over the years… imported goods, immigration, convenient travel, and then to know that once infected you don’t notice symptoms that scream patasitic infection until overgrowth happens and or your range of health tolerance reduces as you age and symptoms become more prevalent (gi issues, inflammation, joint pain, headaches, sinus issues, etc)
and pathogens can thrive in your gut for years before you have any kind of symptoms manifest.
You’ve got such a beautiful woman on,and then while she’s speaking you keep cutting over so we can look at Tom?
Amazing!!! Eye opening and clarifying so many things in my life, thank you. Love this show thank you for the Educational content. 😉
I intuitively eat lol I had a cheese cake for breakfast bc I had lunch for breakfast and breakfast for lunch but it works
Loved this interview. Points about daily walking and better sleeping were great! Can we get any specific recommendations for a good probiotic?
I really appreciate this video because I have become consumed with counting macros while I’m carb cycling. I’ve not been enjoying the process and I think this will free me up to enjoy it more. Thank you!
I need to sort my shit out. Had cancer, chemotherapy, try to eat healthy and do it for a while. Then fall off the wagon every time. Have a week of eating crap and back to square 1. But in truth my gut has never recovered from the chemotherapy
I am soo thankful for you. My disordered eating started with bulimia, and evolved into not eating, and then used diet culture to cultivate an unhealthy life style.
I needed you right now.
Just bought your book and hope to be reducing my 15 pill a day cocktail to zero pills and instead a proper diet to control body and brain issues
Check body pHSuch bs. I’m surprised ted endorsed something like this.
Do I need to go hungry to lose weight or is that just my developing eating disorder talking?
Could it be that my anti baby pill additionally is making it hard for me to feel when Im actually hungry? I could literally snack all day long but i just want to be lean

This is one of the best videos about food and dieting I have seen. I have always intuitively known that my body asks for what it needs and my craving is its “calling” to get me to to eat those foods. There are times that my body asks for more carbs and sweets and there are other times that I have no craving for those but craving for veges and fruits and other times, grains and meats. The craving is a direct translation of your body for what it needs and it intuitively knows what it needs. Why did we lose this important function of the body, I will never know. It is just the mass-media-fed guilt and resistance that cause all negative outcomes from what we eat. There is no such thing as a bad food.
Emotional immaturity VS MATURITY OUT LOOK to be able to work at making our situation better ( desire to cooperate to REASON with those around US to find PEACEFULNESS & COMFORTABLE ENERGY
Such great tip! My biggest thing I think I have to work on is accepting my God given shape. It’s a process and I know I’m on the right track. Thanks Kelsey!
Hey my friends! Intuitive eating has transformed my relationship with food but it’s not always suitable for everyone just yet and there’s no one I’d rather have than Renee to help explain how to know if you’re ready for it (: xxx
It works! I slimmed off 8 sizes just doing this and brisk walking 30 minutes per day.
Hi Guys, Can somebody help me? I have started intuitive eating a week ago, i realised i dont have actually much hungry, but i want to eat unhealthy foods all the time, like for breakfast i had a bar of chocolate every day, its that normal? It’s going to be like that forever? I Know eating like that its not good for my health, but i m listening to my body…
Obs; if i wrote something wrong, sorry i ‘ m from Brazil
Did anyone have an experience with weight loss while intuitive eating?
I need to lose 20Kg and I’m scared to just trust my body. Any advice?
Hey Kati, do you have any tips on coping with dissociation caused by anxiety?
My biggest issue is — trust — I don’t trust my body to know what’s best for me. And, I know that this is all in my head. Plus, I have this mental image of my “ideal” aesthetic that I KNOW isn’t where I’m naturally meant to be — but — it’s still something I fight with every day.
I have been on and off WW for years. It has taken me a long time, but now I realize that it is not working for me and that it has been giving me more anxiety than help. That is really hard to admit, because I have touted it as a really great program and lifestyle. However my mindset has begun to shift. I want to start at a foundation of not having anxiety and learning to really take control of food instead of it having power over me. I really appreciate these videos and can’t wait to learn more about basically tapping into my own body’s cues.
so i have lupus and i keep seeing these crazy autoimmune diets online like the AIP diet which cuts out all eggs, nightshades, lentils and a whole bunch of other stuff like gluten and its kind of hard to not get into a diet mentality when you have this sort of disease? especially because i have to be on a low sodium diet because of lupus nephritis. do u have any tips? i just wanna be able to eat normal again, thanks
I’m in recovery from an ED anorexia and binge eating.
I haven’t calorie counted for a few years. Yes, I gained weight. I had amenorrhea, so I needed to gain weight.
I recently started counting again because I’ve been eating intuitively for a few years now. I found that my intuitive amount of food is actually pretty normal for my age, sex, height, and weight. I was a little surprised because I thought I was massively over-eating most days, but it’s a healthy amount of food. My ED is still biasing my perception of food, obviously, but I’m happy that at least I’m able to eat every day and stop when I’m satisfied. No binges in years because I’m not restricting anymore.
I’d been on a diet since I was 8 years old. I think all my bullshit with food goes back to my history of restriction and feelings of shame for lacking self control. I’m not surprised that I developed anorexia and binge eating as an adult.
Hi Abbey! I used to be clinically obese ( now I am at a healthy weight for my height). I used to struggle with an ed and obsessively count calories on my weight loss journey, and now I still want to lose a bit more weight, but try and do it the healthy way ( recently i started binging and putting some weight back on) Any tips? Thanks (oh and love your videos btw:) )
Intuitive eating is about eating when your physically hungry so it’s actually very good for eating disorders…
I think I’ve been doing this without knowing. Have kept the same weight for years and stop needing the unhealthy crappy foods!
I did comment on another video for advice but worth noting here. I bought the book. I’ve always been a size 12 to 14 UK. I fell ill 2 years ago and now disabled. The medicines of over 23 pills per day and inability to exercise or cook and meal prep for myself has caused me to bloom to a size 20 UK. I feel so ashamed and now stuck in a rut with other hormonal issues and no idea how to shift the weight. I’m disabled with pain and mobility issues. I walk with a walker when possible and only 32. I really hate myself right now and no idea how to eat better when I cant even cook for myself. I’m grabbing for bread and crisps during the day. It’s a nightmare and constant spiral x
I’m 17 and this video helped me so much. I had pcos when ‘dieting’ came into my life and due to so many reasons I became obsessed with food and calories. I never binged I just starved. I’m still very skinny and I hope this helps me become stronger.
Tom thank you so much to give us access to all this information. Love this topic, I wanted the show to continue.
I have been told that intuitive eating isn’t for people who have weight to lose (I’m about 40lbs overweight). Is this true? I have anxiety and tracking seems to really trigger it and make it worse. It stresses me out. I haven’t had the best relationship with food and really believe that listening to my body is what I need but that battles the need for weight loss. Thoughts?
Hey I don’t know, if anyone sees that who could help me, but I have a question.
So I am since about 2-3 months in a constant 200 calories restriction and have about 2 binges a month. I don’t think that that is an ed but I don’t want to continue that.
And here’s the problem: I am sooooo damn afraid to eat more. I am so afraid, that I could gain weight and every time I try to go up with the calories I stop after two days and lower my calories so much, that I can “undo” the higher days before. And I also do this after my binges. Has anyone an idea what I could do.
OMG YES!!! I am 10 months in on my journey

Hi Kati!
I came over from Shane’s video and amazingly this, being my first viewing of a video from you, is most definitely the video I need right now in my current situation. Thank you so much!
How does a picky eater/someone who only eats fast food eat intuitively? I don’t know what my body needs and I can’t just eat everything
I’ve been restricting and binging for so long now, I just want to develop a healthy relationship with food again. I think many of us have been beating ourselves up at night for over eating, saying how we will “make it up in the morning”. I’m reading “Just eat it” by Laura Thomas, and I would highly recommend it. There is a lot of brainwashing done in the media and our society. I was always a chubby kid; I got a lot of hurtful comments. I never thought I was a disordered eater until I read the book. I think many of us can learn from it. I just want to say: IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT. You have been told it’s “healthy” to count calories, do “vegan-keto diets” when you have no tolerances or ethical restrictions. We as a society have all gone mad and we call it #fitspo. Stress and disordered eating is way worse for you than a couple extra pounds! And you’re still beautiful!
All this sounds very nice and beautiful, what do u do when u have food intolerances and almost everything hurts your stomach? Lactose, gluten, etc. Like u have IBS or some other chronic condition like Chrones? It’s nice when u say: “I can eat ice-cream cuz that’s what I feel like” but I know for a fact that if I eat it I ll b in the toilet all day long and my stomach will hurt so bad! How can I eat intuitively when I know for a fact if I’m craving something it’s gonna hurt me so bad if I eat it?
I found your video very interesting, thank you for making it!
I agree with all of what you said, I just have a lil questo’
When you’re used to eating certain types of food all the time, how is your body supposed to figure out that there are other ways to get the nutrients it wants and needs? Would you suggest to force oneself to go out there and try other types of food?
I am a vegetarian, I don’t eat meat and fish but I decided to allow myself a lapse every month, so once in a while I might eat sushi’s or a fat burger
Would you suggest that I should listen more often to the little voice telling me to eat meat and fish when I actually have reasons to not want to?
Does anyone know where the video of mechanical eating is? Would love someone to give me a link/title as I couldn’t find the video.
Maybe this video doesn’t exist idk.
From birth I’ve always let my son intuitively eat. I always have given him lots of options and let home choose what and when he wants to eat. He is very healthy and full of energy. I have dealt with weight issues since childhood. I decided I wanted my children to have a good relationship with food and their bodies. So far so good!
Tom:
Have a lot of respect for you, but it has been a while since you’ve had an interview with people that actually have a scientific background on the subjects they’re discussing. No big discoveries with this interview. She claims to have a handle on probiotics when in fact she knows nothing of the subject. Not even the experts have a handle understanding gut biome. Want a mirade of probiotics, learn how to fermint a variety of different foods. Over the counter probiotics, clinical studies are not showing no benefit with semi healthy people.
just wanna say thank you sooo much..I don’t know that there’s a video like this..the first video I’ve had watch, it really made me cry so much..felt so relieved that i’m not the only one struggling with parents with mental illness..now I understand better and know what’s my next steps..i’m already so tired filling in other people’s responsibility…my parents and siblings. God bless you and more knowledge and videos to come and to look forward.
Oh my word, just watched a video about intuitive eating, and was so downhearted at my correct efforts in what you call mechanical eating, it brought me to tears, because I can also see the struggle in deprivation, and going to far when you allow yourself the bad food. So this is so encouraging and spot on to watch. I now feel like I know to keep up my efforts, and keep going until it becomes more intuitive.
This is what I wanna get to at some point… sounds amazing man I really want to get metabolically regulated and start increasing my calories bc they’ve been rly restricted for a LONg time… honestly the idea of seeing food and the gym as more than just a way to try to be okay with the way I look sounds amazing… bc I enjoy the gym a lot and I’m so tired of having an unhealthy relationship with food which I’ve had my entire life… thank u so much:)
I’m about to start my journey at this outpatient eating disorder clinic for the 3rd time because the other 2 times I didn’t take it seriously I wasn’t ready but now I am because now my binging is out of control I randomly search intuitive eating & find this
like I eat and feel comfortable full after but then I feel like I could eat more and all my friends are but I don’t know if I should?
I wish I could sit down and have these two slam with information, amazing and strong love this love them just amazing
When I intuitively eat, I get fat lol. But when I’m mindful, I do well
Why are other intuitive eaters so skinny and I’m just a sad blob of fat. This is unfair.
This answered a lot of my questions, which then led to a host of new questions…
I want to try eating food this way. My doctor said I need to loose weight ASAP. I think that this flexibility is going to work for me. Thanks for the video!:)
I had an unhealthy relationship with food since childhood. As a child it was binge eating due to stress and trauma. As a teen it became anorexia nervousa and after I had my children after I thought i had it under control as a full grown woman, sadly it took form as health obsessed with nutrition and exercising. Just same demon different costume. I have stopped watching the conflicting health advice and vlogs and decided to just try and limit junk food and follow my hunger cues and trust my own body for the first time.
This is off topic of the video but it just hit me in thought… so just something to get your thoughts going. So what if jesus christ was actually a normal guy who was capable of no more then what we are capable of if he is gods son and we are also children of god then why would he be the favorite. What if he was someone who figured out the secrets to the mind early on and applied it with the most intense beliefs within himself to act on which manifested miracles or atleast seemingly impossible feats to the unenlightened being. Anyway I have not sat to long on this it was an impulsive thought and I just started typing away so I leave it open to make your own conclusion of what I’m getting at here. I just think we are capable of so so much… going as far as being in two places at once.
I think I have binge eating problem since I was child but at that time no one realized this is a problem. Think deeply and I found that it’s because I was always pushed to eat more than what I can handle by my parents since kindergarten as they always think I eat too less or not nutritionally. Gradually, I get into “eating more and more even I feel full” habit. Now, I try to listen internally but I still fail sometimes and still cannot stop eating snacks, like cake, bread. It’s too hard.
I try stay away from high sugar and high salty foods
I like intuitive eating
But I used to have an eating disorder with calories but I was never anorexic
However I like sugary foods
I just stopped dieting after 20 years and am on day two of intuitive eating and loving it. You are really lovely, I’m going to subscribe, thank you
Love all of this information. Intuitive eating is definitely the way to go if done right!
Color me skeptical regarding “intuitive” eating. If you have good eating habits, then then I would expect you will have good “intuitions” regarding eating. If you have bad eating habits, then your “intuitions” will be all bolloxed up and lead you wrong. So intuitive eating is an effect (not a cause) of good eating habits.
This was a very informative video. The only thing that kinda bothered me was when she said if you are underweight you can’t intuitively eat. But I’m naturally underweight. My bmi is 17.2 but I’m perfectly fine. I’ve been intuitively eating for a while and that’s just how I’ve been. Honestly, I don’t think BMI is a good measure of health and being underweight isn’t a bad thing if you are naturally like that. I don’t know, just my personal opinion.
Its sad because I once had a time where I had this. But now, I had started counting calories and restricting, and I have these insane cravings that just overtook my hunger cues. Now its like I can eat but mentally I want more, and I can’t decide if I’m truly hungry or if I have a very big craving/appetite. I stopped counting calories and honestly its so incredibly hard having to rely on my body. For now, Im letting my body take me wherever it wants with cravings and such. But I’ve been bloating and I don’t remember how to eat normal anymore.
his ears are too big….he should have them fixed. Clarke Gable had ears like that, but had them operated on in order to be a film star.
I’m so glad I found your channel! I always believed in listening to your body when it comes to eating and its all about balance! So many people have been going on about macro counting in order to be in calorie deficit and I started to believe it but was really struggling with tracking all my calories!
it’s 3 am in America and I can’t stop binging her videos!! I LOVE her
I loved this video. Thank you. I trie to eat intuitively, too. But it is hard when you work at an office all day. Because you can’t cook a great nutritious meal in the afternoon when you start feeling hungry. You have to be somewhat prepared and that makes it harder. But not thinking about the calories or time of day has helped me a lot lately. I really enjoy your videos and just started your Build. guide. It’s really great. Much love from Munich, Germany:)
What’s the verdict on microwave popcorn? Healthy? Unhealthy? Hope it’s healthy since I eat it by the pound and that’s hard to do cause it’s light.
How do you reconcile intuitive eating with weight loss if one’s body is presumably not giving cues for calorie deficits?
Kind of disagree people have carb addictions. They need to wein themselves off of unhealthy poison
I can definitely see myself doing this, this is refreshing to see after being surrounded by fitness buffs that promote counting your calories. As someone who is moderately happy with their most and just wants to build muscle, I just think I’ve got to eat a bit more to fuel my body for the exercise.
I loved this video. I’m trying to start eating intuitively which is really hard for me. I had a parasite a couple years ago and it messed up my hunger cues so bad and caused me to over eat all the time(I literally never got full). Because of that even after it was gone I couldn’t tell when I was full so I just kept eating. Recently I realized just how much I was eating and how bad it was so I’ve made it a goal to listen to my body when I’m actually hungry and when I’m full. It is amazing how loud your body can be when you actually listen to it. I’m still learning and have a long way to go, but seeing things like this helps keep me motivated to continue to listen to my body and work on my relationship with food.
Hey Natacha, should birth control be accounted for when we consider our hormone balance for intuitive eating? Or is the difference small enough that it shouldn’t stop us from eating intuitively?
After YEARS of half hearted on and off recoveryI finally feel ready for this journey ❤️ thank you
Ok, this is what I was looking for. although I havent seen any men doing this? is there a reason there are no men doing it? anyway, I instinctively know it just can’t be as complicated as the mainstream makes it out to be. the gurus have us so bamboozled, we don’t know right from left. wow, what you have done is confirm something my instincts already know. the other day I was “dieting” and I got this massive craving for a McDonalds burger. (im a vegetarian at heart) I could not believe how strong the pull was to eat this. so instead of fighting it., I said to myself, that just maybe my body is trying to tell me something.so I went and had a normal portion of food. not a giant burger but a double cheeseburger, which would fill up a normal adult. and it did. in fact all day i had been craving this and because i was on a strict carb diet, I was hungry all day. then when i ate the fatty meat, my craving stopped, my body settled down and in fact I felt really good.
so I figured I would start eating keto again( I had done this in the past) and today I started to crave healthy cereals. so once again I questioned if this was my body telling me something, and lo and behold I had a “normal” bowl of wheat based cereal and I feel full.
so this led me here, because my body and heart is screaming at me, “losing weight and eating cannot be this difficult!” Then it clicked with me…”aaaaahhhhh, I have become so confused I have stopped listening to my body”! I know its not insanely complicated like then keto, and carb proponents say, our bodies know, just like our bodies know how to breathe. I will go back to eating healthy and until I am full with foods my body are telling me to eat even if I do not lose weight. because at 52, ive done it all. there is nothing I havent tried and Im ready to let go of the control…
I hate intuitive eating because when I actually listen to my body, I realize I as a 5 2″ person the amount of food my body can handle is sooooo much less than what my mind thinks it can handle. It sucks that I can’t eat as much as I’d like to if I am to be respectful to my body….damn you processed foods.
I know this is an old video but do you have any advice on how to feel hungry? I have never been able to feel when I’m hungry or not or when I’m full.
Thank you Natacha for introducing me to Renee Mcgregor, and this concept of intuitive eating. You have blown my thoughts and beliefs wide open in a wonderful way! Thank you. This is trans-formative information!
I am glad you mentioned that its not suitable for people with eating disorders. I’ve been trying to do this and just end up bingeing each time. Thank you for this! Lots of other influencers are just pushing this and not taking into consideration their audiences. I’ve heard of people overeating and talking about they are intuitively eating. Anyways, great content! Loving your channel!
i think that intuitive eating is the only ‘diet’ that actually makes sense, and i am hormonally regulated like the video says, ive gotten all clears healthwise.. but when im home alone and i get hungry, my body tells me to go for canned foods. even processed, unhealthy stuff like alphaghettis or kraft dinner. i feel like since ive been living on my own ive been eating this stuff a lot. im also not really overweight, except for a bit of a beer belly thats not very noticeable, but ive had that weight on there for years of ‘good eating’ and am pretty slim everywhere else. im not really sure where to go from here. i want the stomach fat gone and at the same time, my body intuitively tells me to go for really savoury foods.. seem to be getting mixed messages here
I’d love your thoughts on the science behind cravings and how to stop them!
Okay, but Keto isn’t just a fad diet. For many its a lifestyle change. Keto never felt restrictive to me. I have a scale, I don’t use it often. I pay more attention to how my clothes are fitting and I take measurements. If I’m not losing weight but I’m losing inches I’m fine with that. I’m less worried about the # on the scale. I pay attention to I look in the mirror and in my clothing.
My only anxiety related to food is due to having cyclic vomiting syndrome. I’ll admit sometimes my mind says “If I don’t eat, I can’t throw up” and I realize I need to stop thinking like that. I haven’t even had an episode in 4 years.
im sorta new to the channel. i was just wondering why Tom mentions his wife’s IBS symptoms all the time lol i mean i get you need an example but why rat out your wife to the internet. i’ve never seen Tom’s wife but from what i hear she has issues tho i know its a bias thing cause i have literally only heard about her and her trouble with her bowel movements.
again, i know its an example and according to Tom a good one but lets just mix it up a bit
Hey guys! I’m new to this community and just wanted to touch base on one thing Katie said in this video: self talk. If you’re having problems with positive self talk (like I have) check out the book “What to Say When You Talk to Yourself”. It’s really helped me out a lot and it might help you:)
Ripe Brie cheese from Trader Joes, makes me become ravenous and binge eat
Abby your message is the best! When I dont have the motivation to read the book: intuitive eating, I come and watch your videos and reset!
i had an eating disorder for some 10 years. by the end of it, i was bingeing hardcore, overexercising to the point of injury, and i had wild orthorexic rules and engaged in obsessive calorie tracking, eating almost no fat in my diet because it terrified me. i started on IE, at first very lightly by trying to not track my calories and trying to eat more fear foods without counting macros, and then more seriously after i read evelyn tribole and elyse resch’s book. i started by trying to meditate every meal on how hungry i was before and after, i stopped exercising so hard in order to really understand my baseline hunger, i introduced new foods and ate at them slowly to really taste them… and, i dunno, i had a BAD eating disorder. but still, IE worked for me. and now, a couple years later, i just eat, exercise, etc. very intuitively and i don’t think about food very often except to wonder what’s in my fridge. just my two centsi’m not a nutritionist. but i’m not really sure i understand why IE is not being recommended for people with EDs. i’m not the only i person i know who transitioned from an ED to IE.
What do you do when a parent makes it hard to start being comfortable with your body. My mom weighs less than me but is shorter so she carries it different. She is constantly making negative remarks about her weight and it make me feel worse than I do. I have asked her to stop and told her why but she told me I’m taller so I look better (not that much taller). I told her that doesn’t matter and it’s not enough of a difference. I know she has issues with her weight and she used to see a therapist about a year ago but she won’t stop saying things that make me feel worse than I already do.
I’m so glad i found your video and channel! Thank you, you change how my mindset right now.
Her fitness outfits are always perf!!! Anyone knows how tall she is??
Any comment about people who have lost hunger cues? I’ve been nearly ten years free of my ED, but my hunger cues never returned. I always just remind myself to eat at random intervals throughout the day.
Listened to the side effects of dieting and started sobbing. It’s all me. I’m just starting on a journey towards intuitive eating and hearing that confirmed for me that I’m doing the right thing. I’m terrified
I did this with my dietitian. I used to practice this when I was younger and I didnt even know I was practicing it. It was my normal. Until a death in my family happened and from then on, I spiraled. I’m working on it again.
Hey Abbey! I used to focus so much on weight loss and it caused me to fail constantly. Since I have been watching your channel I have learned that focusing on health is a long term sustainable way to live rather than just trying to make myself smaller.
Thank you so much, you are such a supportive friend for me, I always believe that our bodies evolve to be like this to eat what they need, all we need to do is to eat healthy, don’t overeat any kind of food, not just eat whole food or something like this, I live in China, people are already really skinny but a lot of girls starve themselves even worse and more restrictive, I am not skinny and I am in a really healthy weight and even kind of skinny if I live in America, but people around me are just like to judge me that I am fat and chide me that I can’t fit in that skinny dress, do you know how severe the situation here? The right way to fit in skinny jeans is to be thin enough to wear that like a loose jeans. Sometimes I just feel so sick of my body and I try to lose weight again and again, and I setback into binge. So my situation is that If I eat enough, I will be in normal shape, but I can’t because they will laugh at me, even they are grownups, things are worse in Asia. And you are so supportive, thanks a lot for giving me hope and confirm me that it’s not a wrong thing if I am eating enough, I don’t want starve myself anymore, all I want is to escape this situation
Wow holy shit #3 is so powerful & meaningful to me “make peace with food” your explanation & going in details wow I write that all down I needed that I need to work on this!!!!
I unfollow 3000+ Instagram models who I all want to look like!!!!!!! I guess I’m off to a fresh start
When I was intermittent fasting with the 16:8 window, I ate SO MUCH during my eating window because I was stressed about not being able to eat anything in a few hours, so I had to get as much in as I could. I would eat HUGE meals, and only an hour or two apart because I was just trying to eat all the things my body was naturally craving when I was “fasting”. Thank GOD for videos like this that help validate the fact that it was so extremely unhealthy, and it was good that I stopped and just ate when I was hungry, stopped when I was full.
Thanks for this ladies. I’m weight training and have days where I feel so fatigue just being awake is exhausting. (I train 3 times a week). I sort a personal trainer for the day who suggested I track my macros and try to eat 2000 calories a day. Got to say I do struggle to hit 2000 and hitting all macros so my question is I agree with intuitive eating as I find tracking time consuming and I don’t eat if I don’t feel hungry but is it better to make sure I eat more protein to build the muscle? I do feel I’m getting better with carbs as I know how my body feels when I’m low. I am 5’ 2” and always had a petite frame (take after my dad) but I want to gain weight and muscle. Current weight 50kgs and I’m 42. I want to be stronger but I’m in the peri menopause stage and suffer severe IBS which I’ve had all my life but has flared so bad 2 years ago I had to see a dietician on the NHS. I’m dairy intolerant wheat, gluten etc and on a low fodmap eating plan and when all settles I challenge food items. Thanks.
In quarantine right now…I was able to get still and realize I had a insane desire for oranges and apples. I could not get enough of them. Their juices and the fruit itself..its all the things right now. Everybody says it too much sugar, too many carbs. Newsflash I get sick and very mean without carbs. I can not go that low carb, keto way. My body didn’t like it. I quit eating fruit for years. Now I can’t be without it. I want to be healthy for myself and look the best I can. Be my best. Thank you for this. I just heard someone I follow say they are doing this way if eating because its not a diet. I’ve been on a diet since I was 8. Mom gave me pills to cut my appetite, seriously she did. In this season of pandemic I’ll use it to help myself with more mindful eating, and listening to what my body wants.
Great video! I have read about intuitive eating today and I discovered that my way of eating has a name! People often say that I’m lucky because I eat what I want and I’m slim. And I’m surprised because why should I be fat? I can’t eat more than I need, that’s something natural, right? Food is my friend, calories is something I need to function and I like my body although don’t spend too much time thinking about it.
I needed this. Thank you. Been becoming obsessed with losing weight and keep gaining the same weight I lost because I hate dieting. It makes me truly unhappy and obsessive. I eat super healthy but I know I snack when I’m not really hungry. Gonna try this.
This video really opened my eyes and helped me understand what I’m going through. You’re so awesome and I love what you do keep doing it!!! This helped me so much ❤️
Yes, writing love letters to our body; what a wonderful concept; once again thank you Kati!:)
I love that you didn’t mention any certain “food” and there’s not a lot of hateful meat eater vs vegan comments. I’m gonna whisper this in the wind “anybody who is awake and does real thorough research into the animal product industry and still eats animal products cannot be considered to be human to me I’m sorry it’s too sickening and horrific I know the best way to spread veganism isn’t meat eater shaming but it’s the only way when you see animals as the equals they are and the exploitation of them as sadistic torture and murder” Please the world will look back and frown upon when we ate meat do your part make the change to veganism quicker and help save part of tge world over night or nights this is a lot more serious once you see the bigger picture you’ll understand we can do this and quickly.
This is sooo true!! I’ve been doing this for a week. Really listening to my body
Is this real? I mean, seriously, i also do track my macros and calories. But look where humanity has come… We need help to eat normally. And this has a name for it ‘intuitive eating’. This is just eating, we’re fucked up. This video is amazing, but i feel sad for being in this situation…:(
Realtionship with food is the same as any healthy relationship ship, give what you get and get what you give. How does the food make you feel physically and emotionally and cognitively. If it’s a positive return put more effort into preparing the food that makes you feel the best. Also don’t be a xenophobia or racist and be scared to try different foods and diets or think one is superior to the other, you’d be surprised which foods your BODY AND MIND prefer. Listen to how your body feels and what your mind think about the food and do your back round research and how they’ve treated their exes.
Lastly just like any relationship, it might not last a life time. When you stop seeing the benefits move on, don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. exploring until you find your soul plate…mate.
And if you wanna be abstainant or celibate, go ahead. Just don’t complain about #sexculture or #relationshipculture #loveculture When you fuck up and start fucking everyone or wanking everywhere
I binge eat once a week. It’s terrible. I have no peace with food and I want to.
Its cool to see a therapist talking about this. I thought it sounded kinda weird when random people on the internet would kinda talk about it.
I’M more like “loooove food” and then be very guilty about it… Overeating the sweets and the snacks and even normal healthy food, like a good soup… Then go back to calorie counting and woring out 2-3 times a week. Lose weight and then just after 2-3 weeks i go back to overeating again.. And it goes on an on.. Maybe this method could work! I will definitely try this! Thanks Abbey!:)
I know this video is a few months old, but I heart it so much!! Even put it on my FB, and I never post YouTube videos. Good job!
I really needed this video. Thank you! So thankful that I found you on YouTube! You have been a great help for me and have helped me to not be so afraid of therapy and find a therapist.
Great vid. But if you need to lose weight can you eat intuitively and do that or will you just stay the same weight.
#THIS SHOULD BE THOUGHT IN SCHOOL.. LESS SUICIDES IN TEENS…
This was such an incredibly helpful video. Thank you both!!
Hey now, strong legs are a GOOD thing! I actually like the idea of mental love letters. I’m not fighting an eating disorder, but have had my share of negative thoughts about myself, and even as a runner (“You’re so slow!” “You needed a walk break AGAIN?” “You don’t train hard enough…”). Those “love letters” can be a mental game changer, even if it’s just the thought of “I love that this run is done and I made it through. Thank you body for allowing this. Now, let’s shower and recover! Love you!”
Thank you for sharing this, Karen. Just ordered a PH test after hearing you speak. Hope to cross paths again.
I just want to put it out here so someone sees this and relates to what I feel… I know that staying fit and wanting a flat ab is all that there is in this world but after dieting and losing my weight and trying to maintain it with diet has driven me crazy… it actually doesn’t make me happy… I love this intuitive eating… who says this is bad and that is good? It should be your body and you should hear it out and follow… stay happy with ur body and just focus on keeping it happy and nourished
You know what’s a shame? I just googled the German version of the book you recommended and it has been translated to “Loosing weight intuitively”… that sucks.
Hit the like if u 2 were eating while watching to this
what does it mean if i fit all the criteria for bulimia but i very rarely binge and ive never purged?
im in the time when i feel disgusting even after snacking and if i eat over 1200 calories i feel terrible and I keep denying thr fact that I’m hungry because I don’t want to eat. I also really think that I could lose weight and that I shouldnt even eat. I only eat just enough so that my family doesn’t suspect anything wrong with me. (I’m overweight)
Thank you so much for this amazing learning lesson this this segment was amazing I have a lot to work on.
“We have to sit down shut up and listen” hahaha so true in this context
We need more words for ‘diets’. It applies to such a wide range of things that even though I know exactly what you’re saying, it doesn’t sound quite right because you’re talking about a specific definition of the word ‘diet’ but there’s so many other definitions.
edit: I’m loving the asides that clarify that you’re talking to people that intuitive eating is best for and that it may not be the right thing for everyone.
Your body should never tell you to eat ice cream and cake… 😉
this is such a beautiful video! many people should actually watch this, anyway thank you for the wonderful message❤️ love from singapore xx
I know you said that you have no food restrictions but when you are like baking or drinking coffee do you add sugar or sugar substitute?
Lack of body image issues based on “privilege”. Kinda lost me with throwing in privilege agenda in.
thank you so much, kati!
i’m working on my recovery from my restrict-binge eating disorder, and it’s definitely not an eating process. when my eating disorder started, i had the mentality that i “wasn’t good enough” and i “needed control”. i became really angry and mean to my friends because i felt so frustrated that my body was making little to no changes. everyday i would eat little to no food, and then binge a lot during the night out of hunger and frustration. it got to a point in the summer where i ate two lollipops everyday whilst idolising malnourished bodies that i considered were beautiful. in that time i lost 7 pounds in within 4 days.
however, one day i was able to put my thoughts aside to go to a stage show with my internet friends as well as my irl friends. i had so much fun, and i recognised that people loved me for who i am, and not what i look like. i decided to go vegetarian so that i can still have that “control” feeling, without it being too abusive.
today i still feel really insecure about my body and i even have mental breakdowns about it every week. sometimes my breakdowns are out of disbelief that i actually tried to destroy myself by not eating, or about how i’ve lost the fight of me gaining control and losing weight.
one day i aspire to look at myself and smile, and not overthink my meals. xx
This video made me tear up. This is so comforting to hear. Thanks for this, I’m glad I accidentally found it.
Loved your little song ☺️ If it brings you joy, do it! 😉
Just recently found your channel and I am gaining so much already, thank you!
I love what you do and how you do it, you are awesome!
I don’t have a eating disorder but i have a hard time eating correctly. For example I will fast for 2 days then eat like 1 small meal the third day and sometimes I than will over eat but not binge. A year ago I had lost A LOT of weight and it really worried my family. I’m not sure how to work up to having a better relationship with food.
I’ve actually been trying this for the past 2 weeks or so. Just working on listening to my body and what it wants. When I’m hungry. When I’m full. And it’s actually so much more easier to control what you eat.
Not true for added sugar, it is addictive and leads to a vicious cycle of highs and crashes
How can I fix my acid Reflux? I was told I have a Hiatal Hernia, I lie down to rest 3 hours after eating and sometimes I get up a different person. Now I’m scared to sleep.
Ok, how about the significantly overweight people, who have been overweight all their life (regardless if they went on a diet or not? They weren’t mentioned in the category of people for whom this is suitable for since they are not hormonally/metabolically balanced but also they can’t “accept who they are”. Neither were they mentioned in the category of people for whom this isn’t right, since they might not restrict or suffer from a disorder.
Thank you for this kati, I’m entering eating disorder recovery for the third time (third time lucky) and it’s important to remember not to rush ahead i’ve got a lot to learn and i am so grateful that my body is still powering on after all i’ve done to it.
Before I started watching: Intuitive eating is listening to your body what it needs and providing it.
After watching: Well…I’m doing a lot of it already. And if I want a chocolate (my body doesn’t want it very often though), I eat it. It’s nice. But…the dieting thing worries me…I don’t care about my weight (as long as I feel healthy, I’m fine with having a few pounds more than my “ideal weight”), what I’m worried about is that I’m a vegan. That’s not dieting, right? Just being a vegan I mean? Because that would seriously suck.
Great message. I’m currently making videos with a similar theme.
I find it great that you can watch this on an Galaxy S8 on full display mode without nothing important being cut
What you think about changes your brain. That’s a powerful thought.
Do any of you know how to join/register on her website? I finished the registration form and they emailed me a link for activation but when I click the link it asks me for an activation code? I didn’t get one so I am very confused how to activate my account. Thanks in advance for your help!
Thank you for this I’m going to try to do this because maybe applying this it’s way easier to accept eating and being okay with it.
This is wonderful! I’m currently in recovery from anorexia and I can’t hear this stuff enough!
Kati I LOVE all your videos I think you’re doing an amazing thing may GOD bless you. I have been listening to your clips for the last half a year and it has really been clarifying some of the most important things in life! I am just wondering is there a difference between eating disorder and disordered eating?
For me it helped to follow body positive accounts on social media (especially on Instagram). It’s so liberating!!
What about the gut biome, the bacteria that sends signals to our brain to eat certain things? The bacteria is hijacking the brain to get us to eat the things for the bacteria’s survival, not ours.
Good video overall. Although I cringed when I heard you say muscle weighs more than fat because this is just not true
Intuitive eating is huge in the fat acceptance population to justify eating too much food and food with high sugar or high fat.
Please do a video about the new Netflix show insatiable! It might help take it off the air

Hey Kati, I would love to hear your thoughts on if it’s okay to break up with someone, because you need to work on yourself?
Kati, I was wondering if you could do a video on hypochondriasis, and how to cope with being a hypochondriac. Thanks! Love your vids! I just recently discovered your channel while struggling with this issue.
Hi Kati
Whenever I take holiday from work to spend at home and ‘relax ‘ I never can quite relax. I get so stressed to make the most of my time even though I am wasting it being stressed. I get scared of being lonely and not enjoying my week off. And I can’t control it. Even if I tell myself there’s no point in stressing my body is unconsciously getting stressed. I’ll wake up with my heart beating and having not slept enough. And this will ruin my day as I will spend it tired as well as lonely and stressed. Do you have any advice? Thanks
Jasmine
Thanks Kati this video was very helpful I strugle because I was under weight all the way up until early 20s i found it easy to starve myself when i hit 23 i got on mental health meds and got over weight they made me constantly hungry but then switched meds and got really underweight again then changed meds and got a drinking problem and got big again. Im now about 5 pounds over weight and am trying this method for a while i went from starving myself to having binge nights cause i was just so hungry. I find now that im trying this im not gaining or loosing plus im not getting really dizzy after my workout sessions. I think iv platoed im a size 10 i was having troble excepting i dont think il be a size 1 ever again i think because thats were my metabolism is. But after watching this it made me think im healthy now im very active im more stable i always have energy and im not almost fainting when im really active. So thats something to be happy about and thankful for. I have to keep telling myself that:). I love your videos and am learning lots from watching them.:)
i ate a lot today and i am thinking of having another snack even though its almost 11pm
i just want to make sure its not that i am sleepy so i am going to try to sleep first
i also ate a lot today i had an egg wheat wrap for lunch
dinner was a pork appetizer that was pretty big then a chicken meal and a carrot cake desert (no nuts in it so thats why i ordered that one and it had cream cheese for the icing)
i was up at about 6-7am today as well so that could be why and i walked pretty much nonstop
i am an intuitive eater but sometimes i can eat instead of sleep so that is what i dont want to do
thx for another amazing ha bisky video i really hope on sept 4th my life changes and i can live in cali
Hi Natacha! I don’t feel physically hungry but keep thinking about food… does that mean I’m craving it or I biologically need it?
i think my therapist thinks i’m recovered bc i never talk about my ED, but i do have the thoughts still & feel guilty, i’m just far along in recovery so they aren’t as intrusive. i’ve probably been attempting to intuitively eat for about a year and a half. my nutritionist told me about it a few years back and i finally stopped the recover/relapse cycle so i could do it. but it definitely is hard & i feel like i’m in a rut. i am the most i’ve ever weighed and it goes back and forth between guilt & acceptance. but it’s hard bc i’m really picky & hate the texture of most fruits & so i feel like i’m not eating that balanced. i just don’t know how to move forward towards full recovery
Why would muscular legs be unattractive? I would think them to be very functional, what if someday you need to move a heavy piano? If somebody has a problem with you being a muscular woman because it make them feel insecure, then I can’t help them. Come on, it’s 2018, people!
“Our body tells us when it’s hungry, it tells us when it’s full.” That would be lovely if it was true for me too. #AutismProblems
What about when you’re not restricting calories(are actually trying to gain healthy weight) and are tracking macros but still end up binging?
Thank you for this video, very educational and interesting and deffo helpful Katie. x
Right now, intuitive eating sounds impossible and awful to me. My mom’s trying to force me to eat 3 times a day but I barely eat once a day. Maybe one day I’ll be able to eat correctly with intuitive eating! We’ll see. But at the moment I’m pretty desperate
I’m a pretty healthy eater. Today I just had 2 slices of pizza, some chips and some dessert today. I don’t feel bad at all. I deserved it. Mainly because I actually wanted it.
Kati, I’m new to your channel, but I just want to say thank you. I’ve… I’ve felt insanely out of control and afraid since my ED has gotten less manageable. I’ve gotten a lot of comfort from your videos. Sometimes I don’t know what thoughts are MY thoughts and what are ED thoughts. I don’t know if I’m hungry because I’m sad or if I’m actually hungry, or if I’m binging or just regular eating. If I eat anything that I want, I’ll just gain all the weight back
So happy to have found your channel ❤️ L I F E C H A N G I N G
Beautifully broken down. I’ve started to thank the old body for a few things. Seeing and hearing and such. I don’t have a terrifically well oiled machine of a body but it’s there and it’s okay. Trying ‘scary’ foods is turning out to be quite a delight. My digestion is coping and I’m taking it slowly as my fear is getting stomach migraines. I know that I crave all sorts of things and they are all diverse and wonderful. Thank you Kati! Thank you Sean. xoxoxoxox
If I listened to my body about food… I’m pretty sure I’d only eat burgers!
I’m not trying to be insensitive or anything like that, but I can’t wrap my head around NOT doing these things. I wish I could. My best friend has been moved to palliative care because nothing is working for her ED, and she has so many failing organs they’re pretty sure she’s “terminal” if there is such a thing as terminal ED. I feel very lost trying to understand the concepts. I get it somewhat. I’ve always had personal problems with self abnegation with non-necessities but to me, placing value like this on food is like placing value like that on oxygen. I can’t grasp it… even at my lowest, being a complete idiot trying to sleep on the floor with no blankets because I don’t deserve a bed, denying myself nutrition was never even a blip on my radar. I feel that leaves me woefully ill equipped to help. In terms of slow suicide, that makes some sense. If someone says they don’t want to live, then perhaps it follows that they would stop doing something necessary to continue life… but how does someone who really truly WANTS TO LIVE wind up in a situation where they tolerate “intake” so little that they are reduced to living off IV Ringers? I don’t understand.:(
