I love running. I find weight lifting to be boring as hell, and I have a hard time getting motivated to do it. Running on the other hand I love it! Sprinting, or jogging i just love to run. And I classify myself as a runner, one reason i love it so much is because i have asthma and if i run consistently it practically cures my asthma. Im able to breathe.

Anyways, the problem with all out sprints is that they tend to zap my CNS, making it very hard to strength train in the process. I’ve been running everyday for over a week now and have lost more weight then 3 weeks of sprints 3-4 days each week. Just do what works for you I suppose. I also get a crazy afterburn affect from distance running too. Then again, I just started running again seriously for the first time in 4 years. It took me about a month to start getting in the groove of things again!

You shouldn’t run every day. You shouldn’t do one particular exercise activity/movement pattern/impact level everyday. That’s a recipe for snap city (and running is one of the worst). You should move everyday, but change it up. Run, walk, strength train, stretch/yoga, swim, cycle, Tai Chi/Qigone/martial arts, play your favorite sport, etc…

I dont worry about pace. I just run a certain distance goal each day. If im feelin it ill be running faster. If its an off day or a recovery day i just run a comfortable pace. Remember, muscles adapt quicker then your joints and bones, so even if you feel you can double your mileage doesnt mean you should, i increase my milaege by 1 mile a week.

It’s possible your body becomes accustomed to the repetition and then it’s no different than running 5 miles every day. He’s not breaking any speed records so this probably takes him 5 hours a day (not minimizing what he’s done but it’s a significant time expenditure). I think it’s pretty cool. I’ve read it’s not necessarily good for your heart would be interesting to see the results of a blood test.
Hey guys I need some help. I’m 6’3 and 230 pounds so I fear running may have too much impact on my knees. Also where I come from there is always rain and it’s cold. Sometimes it even snows. How do I get started? 5 minutes a day? What shoes do I get and how to deal with the weather outside? I play basketball twice a week and go to the gym twice a week as well. But I wanted to add running to improve my health and cardio and lose weight. I think running for like 20 minutes a day outside before school( maybe like 7-8 km/h at 10 minutes to start?) would do wonders for my body.

I mostly agree with this advice. I would add that have decent cushioned shoes with minimal rise and stay off of hard surfaces. You may have been born to run, but you were not born to run on concrete or asphalt. This is the opinion of someone who has run well over 100,000 miles.

you’re not going to be a good long distance runner without long duration running. Seen so many people get ultra fit through short duration stuff (hill sprints to the max!)… pulling sub 6min/mile avg pace… and boom.. injury (myself included)! No, you need slow easy long miles with some high intensity once or twice a week!
aim for 80 percent running 3min/mile below your race pace (7min/mile for me)…. then do track once a week 200m sprint, 400m sprints, 5k’s max speed etc. You’ll never get injured if you’re 3 min/miles below race pace most of the time (with 1 or 2 track days of max thrown into the mix) and you’ll just get stronger and stronger… plus is relaxing and brings the fun to running… those are the best runs.
2:20 good way to do that is go to proper running shop.. when you buy your new running shoes (if they’re good) they often have a cam enabled treadmill that will film your running.. then they’ll look at how you run.
3:02 that’s another place easy mileage delivers… you’re strengthening and able to perfect it without being over worked… so its prime time.. its where form develops.

I’m an ex-distance runner and current sprinter. I want to get rid off labels like that and instead train so I can feel confident doing anything like wild, free savages. I was thinking off running about 3-4 km 6 times a week and doing some sprints after on some of the days. What do you think of a program like that? Will doing it everyday make up for the lack of distance/volume and give me endurance through the adaptation to frequency?
Hellah first off congrats on the 100k and just wanted to mention the videos look super clean. However, like some other people are saying, there are some negative health aspects to running everyday. I have had issues with my knees running on pavement and treadmills and found that grass is the best option. All that consistent pounding cannot be good for the knees. I am wondering if you have ever had an MRI to see the condition of your knees, meaning like whether your meniscus may have been injured (like mine is currently due to running) or some other type of knee injury due to running. I really want to get back to running but am very curious to know if you have had pain in your knees due to running for so many days without a break. Thanks

I run 11kms 6 days a week and one day rest i think you need your body to rest atleast a day after workout run or any other excercise so golden rule is you can run everyday but depending on terrain you run on your legs get injury and that one rest can heal that injury just dont run because you are forced you are running for yourself keep that in mind run according to yourself jog if you love jogging just dont put much useless strain that your body cannot handle and you end up injuring yourswlf for couple of days also while running after a mile try to squat so that the fatigue build up eases and u run more also while running i use rehydrating pack in my waterbottle so i dont get cramps do stretching after run its the best thing you will do to keep your legs in good way and ease some injuries. and the best way to avoid injury is use of better shoes,hydration,food and rest be happy runners.

Not to injure yourself, besides of learning the correct running techniques, it’s essential to always warm up before the run and stretch after running. Wear sneakers suitable for your type of foot pronation and weight. And SLEEP enough to restore. Never force yourcelf to run if muscles aren’t yet refreshed and are heavy (better just walk on such days or jog a bit lightly to refresh the muscles). It also helps to do basic core and general strengthening exercises in between the training days or before or after running to support the body (at least once-twice per week).

As a running coach of almost 20 years, this is some of the best advise I have heard. Just to add to that, there is no such thing as too many miles, just too many WRONG miles. WRONG miles being too many miles too quickly, too many fast miles, bad form, old shoes, trying to run with injuries, etc.. If you have all of that covered. Happy running!

I am a guy who has run, and played various sports for 60 years. I jogged for 40 years. You do not need a coach to run. Really, a coach? Before I deride someone else’s advice, I guess the question should be asked: is the idea to become an Olympic marathoner or, run a few miles a day for fitness? I’m going on the assumption it is the latter of the two. Start off the running career very gradually. If you are a non-athlete and are a bit overweight, start off with daily walks. In fact, depending on your age and physical abilities, it might be that brisk walking is all you ever want to do. It might be that you are too fragile to run daily. It might be a genetic thing. Your joints, particularly your knees and ankles, might not be capable of long daily runs no matter how good the shoes, how soft the running surface, or how smooth your running stride. Your feet might be the body part that objects. A coach won’t do you any good if you have those problems. Okay, if you really feel you need a coach, find someone who has done afew years of running. Pick their brain and let them watch you jog 100 yards or so. Unless something is really amiss, they probably won’t see anything.

Ok I’ll try this challenge I’m 15 and ran before my best distance being 4miles. I also do boxing. I’ll try this for month then I’ll see from there.
DAY 1: not my best run don’t eat before running!
DAY 2: Done 25min
DAT 3:done 30min very tired run my goal is 40min pushed myself.
DAY 4: did same lap much less tired doing it.
DAY 5: ran 3 laps again 2min better trying to run 3 laps till it’s easy
DAY 6: was very unbothered to do it as I did workout before run but still went out. Holy shit my best run very relaxed maybe because it was cold day idk or probably just improvement is true when you don’t want to do it then it somehow becomes your best run.
DAY 7: hey I’ve done week nice also did 5km charity run but did 6k and I didn’t feel too tired only my legs aches and stretching helped a lot I stretch after each run.

I don’t run everyday but I do some form of exercise everyday. This could be running or jumping rope, weight lifting heavy bag workout, bodyweight calisthenics. I do have a system and I plan my workouts at the beginning of the week depending on my schedule. I wish I would have kept up with when I started this routine because I’m not even sure how long I’ve been doing it I just know I feel better when I exercise daily. I can’t even run around my school track and when you run on it 9 times you ran a mile. If I had to do this, after a minute, I would be laying on the floor saying “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THE PAIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNN”

Long running just at the lactic threshold pace is the best way to burn fat. That many miles per day, you must develop proper form and not land on your heels. Forward lean, straighten the back, 180 steps per min, land feet just below center of gravity.
Lol Alan and Janette Murray ran 366 marathon distances back in 2013 around Australia it’s all on Strava and Garmin over 15,000 kms. And here is the catch they where in there late 60s had minimal support caravan and 2 support people but the most impressive part to it was they are Raw Vegan no cooked food just smoothies bananas dates veggies and juices
I don’t believe there is official WR for a marathon a day 365 days a year
So far I have finished 212 days. 154 days left! (366 for a leap year)

I remember this, Stephaan ended up going at 365 days in a row days before Ricardo Abad Martinez suppassed him doing a Marathon for 600+ days straight.

THANK YOU! from my experience all that sprinting brings is big ugly calves and tires you. Long distance is good for mental health, creates lean muscles and long term burns much more calories. I’ll just do intervals when I feel like it
