I didn’t have an applicator for a dry application, so I used a flour sifter. Worked perfectly.
Have used De earth food grade for 40 yrs, have seen absolute miracles happen using this gift from God, as a nutritionist, I advocate this gift to everyone I can, knowing the benefits are always a God sent, whatever medical issues your dealing with, give this product the opportunity to help you, truly a heavenly Gift! Be sure and read how to take this properly, lots of water. Shalom
Thank you so much and thank you for the encouraging words at the end. Isn’t it amazing may God provide such wonderful natural things for us. I’d like to start incorporating it into my dog food I saw on Becky’s Homestead she mixes it into her chicken feed to keep her chickens healthy. I’m looking for a recipe and amount to put in my animal food. You wouldn’t happen to have something like that would you? It would certainly help me a lot
Great info! I bought some from online but it is not food grade. Can I use it in the same ways as you did on the vedio? Thank you!!!
DE only works as pest control in drier climates. It has pretty much zero efficacy when it’s humid. It also works really well as a soil amendment and is basically like a silt-fine perlite.
Just found your videos and love them. I don’t ‘like’ a lot of them because I end up with a hugh list! But I really enjoy them! 7/20
Dear Mr. MI Gardner,
I appreciate the video. I also appreciate the scientists that commented with their own passionate comments. I think you gave a very good base to start us in the right direction for self education. That is always a great video when someone can say ‘hey, look this up and go from here` basically.
I will now look up what an arthropod is and that should tell me that “DE” is active in fighting it. Thank you!
You probably won’t say “dumbing it down” again … But listen, that is a compliment, that you have so many educated people watching and enjoying your channel! That is something to feel very good about!
Kind Regards, Mrs. Torres
Post Script,
(I am a nurse so my science classes did not include much about entomology. Mainly anatomy and physiology. I am sure this might have been LIGHTLY discussed in some paragraph in a High School Science book, but I wasn’t listening) LOL.
Wow what about the Bees? You sure don’t want to put this on the blooms do you?
can you put this on plants that you eat directly? Like herbs?
Grass hoppers? That’s the only thing diatomaceous eat didn’t work on. I believe it’s because they move too much from the plant. Do you have any ideas.
Ps any feed store will have cheep bigger bulk bags of diatomaceous earth. Pet food stores will charge an arm and a leg found out the hard way.
Thank you for showing us this and being a great channel. I know you need disclaimers to not get sued but we all know this miracle product is almost better than modern medicine in certain cases:o
Does it really work to combine with waterid rather use a sprayer myself. The dust is a mess
BS! My 2 cats had really bad round worms to the point of becoming lethargic and losing significant weight. I started putting 1 teaspoon in their water bowl each day and within 2-3 days, there symptoms disappeared and no more vomiting round worms till this day! This was the only thing I added to their diet, so it had to be the DE!
I’m trying to find this in my area (Puerto Rico) but I think that the only way for me to get it is online and that’s going to get expensive!
Why are you not hosting your own T.V. show? Elegant, through, Beautiful and well spoken.
I have rescue cats. I’ve been spreading it around and adding some to the litter boxes for fleas. You can also put some DE down and sprinkle catnip on it. Cats will roll in it and coat themselves.
Thank you Dan. Been using it for years but always afraid to use in garden because I don’t want to harm the earthworms. Really appreciate the clarification.
I bought a pump sprayer in the bag of d e not food grade. We’re supposed to have rain all weekend I guess I’ll try to use it dry first
This was two years ago hw good was the outcome…. did it prevent bugs?
Ok I’m not rich with my own show but lived in Kentucky and Oklahoma growing up in the old ways. Hear try this and make money as others have that I passed this on to take dish soap and clove oil and marigold flowers and your Diatomaceous earth and mix with a little water and no more bugs ok
How I wish I would have known this kills lice when my kids were in school! Lice outbreaks were some of the worst times of my life…and SO expensive, when you’re using quarters for the washer and dryer!!!
I have to say it. Insects don’t have skin. Please use proper terminology.
Might want to use a face mask when shredding it. The package says not to breathe the dust. It will get into your lungs.
What kind of worms are arthropods? Earthworms are not arthropods, they are annelids.
Thank you for the advice. Before pills here and pills there there were medicines that came from earth. Now everything is synthetic and not many people pass on the wisdom of cure many things naturally. I grew up with natural things all around me and Doctors don’t have the knowledge about this anymore. Maybe older generations that were lucky to shared this information. Doctors don’t help you, just mask the problem and medicate you, as there is a lot of money to make by giving “prescribing drugs”.
There is a LOT of misinformation in this video. I haven’t read the other comments, so I risk repeating what others have likely said. Worms are NOT arthropods. Caterpillars, bees, squash vine borers, ARE arthropods.
5/2018 Just dusted my garden today for aphids, ants & whatever else is out there crawling around. Last year my poor okra & squash took a major hit. I try not to use chemicals of any kind if at all possible. Inspecting your plants on a weekly basis or while watering is hands down the best way to identify and control pests. Last year, I was a little on the lazy side and had a major aphid infestation that went unchecked! Once I addressed the issue it was almost to late! For me, I start all my plants from seed & baby them like children for months before I ever get them in the garden and it’s heartbreaking to spend all that time nurturing these little plants to see them be eating alive or destroyed by insects that can be controlled. This year, I transplanted my okra and within 3 days I had aphids everywhere! I’ve sprayed with Neem oil week one…as well as manually washing the underside of each leaf and smashing them. This removed most of the aphids. Now I’m dusting regularly with DE as well as spraying every 2 weeks with Neem Oil…this has controlled them and hopefully by the time I get blooms it wont be a huge problem. Remember, Neem Oil & DE will kill your pollinators so use caution when applying these products. When I have blooms I am very careful not to get the product inside the flowers. Side note: I’ve used DE in micron filters for my fresh/salt water aquariums for over 20 years. It’s a fantastic product that is safe for you and your pets (when used according to label directions) of course! I also use food grade DE regardless of its use….And, like the gentlemen suggested, if you apply on a windy day keep the wind on your back so the powder is carried away from your face! Happy Gardening:-) Texas
Finally!!!!!! I finally found a smart person!! Thank you Luke for informing the public with CORRECT INFORMATION!!!! #SUBSCRIBED and you should too!
It worked amazingly for my cat who was suffering from a severe case of round worms to the point of vomiting worms and feeling extremely lethargic. I simply mixed 1 teaspoon into his water bowl and within 1 or 2 days of sipping the water, he went back to normal!
I use it all the time. I bought food grade DE because it’s also good to ingest about a teaspoon a week to help with stomach bugs and such. I just mix it with a smoothie. It tastes a bit gritty but I recommend it to all my clients.
I found a roach in the soil of my parsley. This works for roaches? Can I just sprinkle some onto the soil?
I’m excited to try this, but if it harms your beneficial bugs how do you use DE and still get pollinators?
At 3:18 The bee was like “hey guys! “just here to pollinate some flowers!” then you were like and the bee went
Poor bee
Please wear a mask this is not good to get in your longs if you read about it you’ll find out please please please wear a mask
Diatomaceous earth is NOT ground up seashells. It is the skeletons of diatoms, microscopic freshwater animals which have died and been harvested. There are two grades, at least, garden grade and food grade. I don’t know what use it would be when eaten, except maybe for elimination of intestinal worms.
also, it gets abrasive by super heating it, and it’s actually freshwater fossils from riverbeds. Food Grade is not crystalized and therefor has around 80% less shards than the garden stuff, but it’s a godsend against spider mites
it kills all arthropods so watch out for your lady bugs and earth worms
NOTE: only targets arthropods (exoskeleton, segmented body) around 7:00. , worms, hornets, wasps, mites, spiders, beetles, fleas, and more
“Worms are arthropods.” oh lord. Careful getting a zoology lesson from a horticulturalist.
Surely if Arthropods have segmented bodies and exoskeletons, bees would be Arthropods, considering they have exoskeletons and their bodies are segmented?
I called the manufactuer of a pesticide DE…a scientist there said all the same. FDA requires different labeling if intended for human ingestion. We use it for intestinal cleansing…still alive here:)!
I see where people also consume this product so why do you have to be so cautious when using it especially if it’s environmentally safe
This is my absolute favorite gardening channel. You are always so full of knowledge, sagely wisdom, and positivity it’s infectious!
Thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into these videos, to helps us all out.
There are THREE types not two. The type for the garden is not for human consumption. The pool industrial grade is not fit for people either. There is salt water and fresh water types depending on the kind of rock, sand, or mineral it comes from. The only type for people and animals is the fresh water type and it must be processed to get the impurities out. The brown or red type is not made for consumption which has heavier metals in it. The white fresh water type is safe if properly treated with the right DE to mineral ratio. From the FDA:
Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is almost all silica at 89% and is pure white to off-white in color, showing its purity. There are other mines of Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth here in the US and world. You will find that those other mines have a product that is almost grey or red in color since it has a higher amount of metals like iron or even clays that are not meant to be ingested. Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is OMRI organic and is Generally Regarded as Safe (G.R.A.S.) for human consumption.” Prudents dictates do your research before consuming and be sure to wear the right mask to avoid inhalation.
currently using it on Thrips infestation…fingers crossed!
All I know is to make sure that the DE is food grade to make sure it doesn’t harm you when you inhale it
I heard someone say it is good for breaking up hard pan and clay type soil. Is that true?
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have a friend who claims DE saved her life (very ill with internal worms). How, though, does wet (used internally) DE work if it needs to be dry to kill bugs? I wanted to start using DE in soothies, but, would that be wasting it? Thank you:). Bless you!! LOVE your videos!
So relieved to know it won’t hurt bees and butterflies! Just need to watch for lady bugs.
Oh wow! I like using DE but I learned that the wet doesn’t render it useless & that it does not harm earthworms!
Ty for the info! I’ve heard about using it for chickens but didn’t realize its multi functions.
Thank you for your you taught me something new and I can rely on you to tell the truth
It works for slugs and snails which are not arthropods. They are gastropods. And DE kills them as well. FYI
Hey so I just got Harris brand Diatomaceous Earth, it’s Good Grade and I wanted to use it for gut health but this says safe for animals but not for human use. Is thus still okay for me to use?? Thank you for your time!
One thing I don’t understand is if its wet it doesn’t work so how does it kill worms in cats?
Is there a different between food grade and the other stuff that specially says insect killer.?
How do I treat soil mites in my indoor pots growing baby onions. I have a cat and need a safe pesticide
Can DE be used on small ants…..or what product is good to keep away ants…
Huge thank you!!!!I’ve started using it to purifier for my tap water. Water tastes so sweet afterwards. Place 1/2 tsp in a coffee filter & run tap water thru.
I bought some D.E. from a country store and it looks like brown sand. Should l consume it, return it or give it to my pets?
having parasites can be healed naturally, doctors will make it worse if you take those shitty drugs, frauds
I use D.E. In my chicken coop and mix it in with sand and soil for their dust box.
This guy is amazing. You know when you talk to someone and you realize what you can learn from them, this is him.
I bought a 40 pound bag of the exact one in your video. I was so disappointed that it stated ‘not for human consumption.’ I bought it for me and my animals. Is there one humans can take?
Hi Gary, can i use it on a flowerbed? I have basil, cilantro, oregano and thyme in pots, so can use it for those too?
Christa, When using DE in the garden or home, do you wear a mask?
I spent $100 for “Advantage” brand flea killer for my 2 dogs. It worked great in St. Louis, but not down here in Florida. So then I bought 2 expensive FLEA COLLARS for 50 Bucks each. Three months later, dogs are still scratching. I had WASTED 2 HUNDRED DOLLAR SO FAR!!! Then I remembered the bag of Diatomacious Earth. I put a LITTLE BIT of it on each dog. The dogs still scratched for a few days, but soon they stopped. It doesn’t kill the fleas instantly. And they still have itchy bite marks that cause them to scratch for a few days. I figure this solution cost me about TEN CENTS worth of the product. Remember you don’t want the dog breathing this dust. So don’t use much down near the tail area because their snoot might breath it in. Be sure to use FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth not industrial grade.
I have diatomaceous earth and used it in my raised beds. Centipedes/Milipedes came with the bulk soil someone gave us and I used the diatomaceous earth to get rid of them.
DE is excellent for flea control in the house. Keep in carpet if you have an infestation. Vaccuum weekly, reapply. Re-vaccuum.
Settle down and calm yourself. Flailing arms distracts from your message.
Thank you very much for this information, great vid man!
So I need to know. I just dusted my flower garden in DE. Something was eating the leaves and I had it in hand and I found a little green worm. So now when I water the powder will drain into my dirt. DID I JUST KILL ALL MY EARTHWORMS???
Can I put this on flowers? I’ve seen people using it on leaves, but what about on the flowers directly?
Just want to mention “why” you should always wear a mask when using it. The pool filter commercial type of D.E. is “heat treated”, changing the structure and making it much higher in silica, which is then very dangerous to breath in, ingest or use on the skin! The “non-heat treated, food-grade” type is safe to ingest, apply to skin, but is still not advised to breath in (since it is still silica content…lower yes, but still silica). So always, always, always wear a mask when applying, your lungs will thank you!
Does this work on squash bugs; i don’t know if they are arthropods
Thank you for this DE swap tip. I’ll be giving borax a little break as I test and analyze the results of my project. I love that you end your videos with scripture, they are very timely messages from our Father. BTW you glow and I know that glow starts on the inside and works it’s way to the surface. May God continue to bless you! ❤️
Hyperbole. When you dust an ant, it takes hours to die. It goes back to hive. It dies. Other ants have to remove it. They die. Dust many ants, Whole hive can die.
I’m going to try using this to help prevent vine borer and squash bug infestations, also using water/Dr. Bonners/Neem oil when I need to. When applying this during the period where flowers are on the plants I would imagine just covering the flowers with plastic sandwich bags will keep the DE off the flowers thus NOT killing the bees that are polinating your plants!
I live and worked in the Bronx in 2009. A bed bug infestation broke out at my job and staff was not informed. We were all affected, and this saved my life.
Thank you. I’ve told people anything that has a exoskeleton. I leave food grade de in a tiny line around the walls and corners of my home. That way if the spiders and such walk through it, it gets on them and will kill them. Its been a great way to remove our spider problem. We had a very big spider problem. Especially black widows. We called the exterminators a few times and it would remove them for a few months but then we had to call them again and it was costing us quite a bit. But since we started using this we haven’t seen one in our house and I look very closely because we have our son. Our basement is super old and we used to get them down there something awful. But we dust an line our home every 3 months. Its saved us a bunch on exterminators.
I wish I would have seen this before buying 10lbs of DE 😉 for ants. Ugh. Thank you. A GREAT explanation.
Ok. Now you’ve got me confused because you say DE only works on arthropods but will not kill honeybees. A honeybee is considered an arthropod. Now, you’ve got me questioning your knowledge.
If you get flustered and claim yourself as a nerd please double check facts on the what you claim to be new!
Love your videos. Just exactly what I e used for years. Face mask, in my toothpaste, shampoo & internally.
What about dirt gnats? Is it effective for treatment of that infestation? I am doing vinegar/dawn dish soap watering for the larve.. but these boogers are Hard to deal with. I container garden btw. ♀️ Thank u!
Other than DE what about another substance like baking soda, borax etc…
OMG you forgot to say you cannot inhale this, you are just shaking the plants in front of your face…i accidentally inhaled some and had breathing problems for a bit, very scary….!
Diatomaceous earth does not harm earth worms or soft bodied bugs…only hard shelled bugs..it nicks there shell and dehydrates their body.It works well if put around the foundation of your buildings or wooden structures to keep ants out
Question… Honey bees are classified as arthropods. At least as far as I can find on Google ♀️
Is it safe to use once vegetables are growing or plants only?
You can givebit to animals if not food trade. It has pics ofvall kinds of animals on the bag. It is a wonderful product. Thank you for sharing this information. God Bless You!!!
I really appreciate you addressing the misinformation out there. Thanks for your hard work.
That sounds like a horrific way to die, is there something that will just repel them? Also, do you want to treat the plants before you get the problems or do you put this on only if you see the ants and beetles
I tried this and it left white spots all over my plants, like it got burned or something? It’s for my chickens so not sure if that was the wrong kind to use?
Had to get a refresher course! (Cucumber beetles much earlier this year.) thanks again Gary.
Can you use it on Japanese golden plum and Gala apple fruit trees?
Thanks Luke I always learn from you. I follow so many homestead channels that know you or are friends of yours. DE will kill Bed Bugs also. Correct me Luke if I’m wrong. I was blown away with how much garden products you have on your 1/3 acre. You put it to good use.
Honeybees and caterpillars belong to Phylum Arthropoda… They are arthropods… Speaking of spreading misinformation
I am wondering why nobody warns you about inhaling DE. When yoy dust your plants you can easily get some in your lungs, and the small sharp pieses is wery bad for your lungs. You should use it with caution.
This is Gr8. So how do you apply DE to get to Japanese Beetles in plum trees?
Hi Gary! I have been trying to save a large hibiscus that I brought indoors from outside, ever since it has been infested with aphids. I’ve been trying to spray with cold water, then insecticide soap, but I wasn’t able to clear the aphids completely, so a few days later, total infestation again. I don’t want to throw away this huge beautiful plant…I found some DE at the a store and dusted the plant under leaves and above, with a plastic dropper, couldn’t find a more innovative way at the moment, how long should Ieave the DE on the plant?I can’t seem to find that info on the internet… please let me know if you can. Thanks!
Just watched the video on DE. Great info. I have an infestation of Springtales. Don’t know if they are exoskeletal and if DE will work on them.
This stuff sounds almost too good to be true! But it’s so versatile… it sounds like something to keep on hand!
Luke absolutely love your videos, is there a certain brand of de that might be better than another or are they all the exact same?? Is there something we need to look for when buying it??
…all the hands in the universe? You need to find some better descriptions. Just get to the point… this is about 7 minutes worth of info that i had to take 20 minutes to recieve. Scale it down to just whats necessary.
Is this a joke video? Nothing he is saying makes any sense. Aren’t all insects Arthropods, not including worms?
How often do you need to apply it? And does it harm praying mantises?
How do you use it for ants? I’ve had tons of different types of ants. I’ve been dumping it on the ground around where they’re infesting cat food
I just have to say, this stuff works! I’ve been having an ant problem. I sprinkled it in cracks around the house around the ant trail, and followed the trail outside to their hole….poured some along the trail and into the hole. It was around 5pm and when I checked on it later around 11pm, they were ALL gone. It works!
How often do you reapply it? Is it still effective when it rains?
I am looking for a hand sprayer that I can use to spread over the yard for fleas. Kind of like the old metal ones my grandmother used. I saw two on amazon but they are plastic and have very poor reviews. any recommendation
Is it ok to spread under my strawberries? Something is eating JUST my berries, every time I go to pick them they have small surface level sections nibbled off, no leaf damage, whatever it is JUST eats small sections of the ripe berries, but is it easily washed off under running water if I get some of the powder ON the berry?
Less rant. More information. I find myself skipping all over the video, trying to “get to the verb”… or the noun. I ended abandoning the effort to extract information from your video.
I live in Rochester NY. We had an infestation of stink bugs inside and outside our home. They were in our closets, in our clothes. In the Christmas decorations we took out the next year. They were everywhere. We tried everything including an “Orkin man” with no success. I came across diatomaceous earth on You Tube a yr ago. I started out using a powder applicator around our windows. It worked. My husband hated the way the powder looked around the inside of the windows so he mixed some up in his sprayer, 1 cup/gallon of water. We sprayed the outside of the house, the Apple trees, the lilac bushes, the Hastas, the lilies, the raspberry bushes, the annual plants, the roses and the vegetable garden. Basically, we sprayed the entire outside of our house and yard. I can’t say enough good things about it. It works! Not only on stink bugs, but Japanese beetles, aphids, and whatever else is lurking around. And it’s not toxic to humans. And it’s cheap. I get it on Amazon. The brand I use is Harris Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade. I love it!!!
Wen used for humans look for food grade type is also very affordable
In truth is good and safe and recommended for humans too we need it as much as animals
I am caring for some stray kittens….. No local vet will allow me to have medicine for their eyes or dewormer without first doing a complete exam of each kitten….. This is about money, your vet has to make money and has to stay in business and that is in everyone’s best interest, but I cannot stand dishonesty!!!
This year I went to the 100% neem and seemed to work pretty well for aphids and japanese beetles. But as you commented ants tend to mine the aphids to plants and especially tomato plants. Next season I plant to start early applying DE around the base and said plants and neem as a spray. One problem with recipe for neem on my gal sprayer. 1 tbls and 1 tbls oil tends to bog down my sprayer. I have cut the oil back to about 1 tsp just enough to allow the neem to mix. Certainly watering first will allow the DE to stick to leaves and ground and be effective when the water dries.
Great clarification video on this product! I’ve been searching about it to control the unwanted pests we have in our garden, in addition to neem oil every now and then as needed. All my hard work needs protection lol. Thanks again!! Happy gardening!
I used diatomaceous earth to get rid of a flea infestation that I had for months. I don’t think I used the food grade kind because it was white in color but I left it down for 2 weeks while I was gone on vacation. Came back to no bugs.
I just broke 3 different spray bottles trying to apply this wet… So what do u need some special bottle?
If I use DE on my salad crop when can I eat the leaves after application?
I thought you can’t mixed with water thanks for the tips
It works on Thrips and all that as well right? I heard spider mites and does it just wash off is it something that has to be reapplied several times
How often would I do this?.Sorry if I missed it in the video…
Of course a Vet is going to say that. He wont get paid. If there are hardly no studies and he has not heard of it then he simply doesn’t know. I for one knows it works.
Thank you Dan. Very much needed information because I just ordered a pound of d.e. With duster. Coincidence? Yeah, probably
Thanks, I just got a bag of DE for the indoor garden. I will look forward to get rid of the tiny flies in a week.
Hey, thanks for the information brother.
I do have one question; is diatomaceous earth effective on fly maggots? I have plenty on the bases of my cherry tomato plants, which are planted in raised garden beds. I noticed these pests about two weeks after I scratched in “all purpose granular fertilizer” and many flies began to hang out around the area.
Kind regards
I’ve been growing vegetables in my hobby farm here in Central Texas for almost fifteen years now. When I first started planting potatoes, I would go harvest the potatoes and I would have a fire ant mound in just about every potato plant. The potatoes would be bitten so bad it was just awful! When peeled, there would be tons of little brown spots all over the potato from the ant bites, so we would have to peel a lot more to get rid of them. THEN… I started putting food grade diatomaceous earth in with my seed potatoes when I planted them. I would dig the hole, dust the hold with D.E., put the seed potato in and then dust a little on top of the seed potato with a little more D.E. Now, it is VERY RARE for me to find any fire ants at all when I harvest my potatoes!!! When washed, the potatoes are pristine and beautiful. When sliced, they are crisp and clean through and through. Food grade D.E. can be used to worm pets and even dust pets for pests. By the way, I’ve been using D.E. in my garden for well over eight years now and I still see PLENTY of worms in the garden all the time, so it doesn’t seem to be affecting them very much if at all.
Noticed you have blossoms on some the plants where you put the DE. So there is the dilemma, we dont want the pollinators getting the dust on them and dying.
I’m about to put down pavers and ants have taken over in the layers of sand and rock they will be resting on. Will sprinkling DE on the sand before putting the pavers down help the problem? Any other suggestions?
Make sure it is food grade DE and not for pools. Feed stores carry the proper DE.
I see dead bee’s. TONS of DEAD BEE’S!!! Consider the fact that it also kills the bee’s. Bee’s are necessary to pollinate your plants, but you are killing them in the process!! People should give this much consideration before using it!! MIgardener, you need to include this warning so we don’t kill off all the bee’s!!!
Enjoyed the rant, and did learn some valuable info. One correction however. Honey bees are arthropods. That’s their phylum
Problem I have is that it takes out beneficial insects also.
you are probably one of the few people who talk about how DE works on pests. sheds their exoskeleton and renders it defenceless..might dehydrate, get eaten, and such. THIS IS THE IDEA OF IT. doesn’t kill on contact. was wondering if it works on bed bugs since there are millions or areas where it can stay shaded.
I have an abundance of ground bees! Wondering if I should use d.e.
Spray on grass to kill fleas and tics.(Do NOT spray on your pet.)
Not sure I’m buying that diatomaceous earth doesn’t deworm. On 2nd day of giving to a rescue dog, worms started coming out in his poop. I’m following dosage instructions and doing for 90 days. May combine with another therapy. Experts are often funded by the big companies so their knowledge isn’t always objective or true, but rather bought by big ag business.
This does not work for fire ants in Florida Been trying to use it for six months now, they walk right thru it and it’s Aphid farming business as usual.
Hi! Just want to clarify proper use of DE. I read that it is only effective when dry. However, it is quite popular on our local succulent community to mix DE on our soilmix to supposedly deter ants and kill mealies. I, too were doing that until I came across the article about DE being effective only when dry. Can you share insights regarding this, please?
Does it work on crickets the crickets are devouring my entire garden?????? I even use it on my car for fleas if she escapes outside.
News flash… you can buy a spray bottle from a dollar store and cut the straw portion inside down to 2-3 inches remaining, you’ll have no problem spraying upside down or inverted. When the straw is not above water level, it will spray while inverted. This genious had to invent simple logic? Wow!!!
$1-2 dollar at max…
My problem is fire ants. Nothing works. I’ve tried DE but they are not affected by it. I have not tried spinosad because of the effect on bees.

Be careful not to inhale it when you apply it dry! Silica is harmful to your lungs if inhaled.
DTE not the best choice for bedbugs. It’s jagged. It repels. Better choice is silica. Absorbs into and dries out the waxy cuticle exoskeleton of bedbugs. Be more careful with silica
Thank you! Borax is my windex and I have a cup of it in my bathroom for likely all the same things you use this for!! ❤️ thank you thank you
I was looking at the tractor supply center and they sell one with calcium bentonite. Is that safe? It says food grade, but some weird way: FOOD CHEMICAL CODEX GRADE,Is it OK to use in the garden?
I have had a big problem with “ghost” ants for years! Everything I tried did not work. Then I tried diatomaceous earth about 2-3 months ago. My ant problem is almost all gone! I’m a believer.
Mixing with water makes DE so much easier to control. No waste and easier to get on all surfaces of the plant.
I use it for my dog, my chickens and myself. I mix it in the chicken feed to kill intestinal parasites. I mix it with water to squirt down my dogs throat for intestinal worms. And I mix it water and drink it myself to kill any parasites. You are gorgeous.
Anyone know if this can be used for Cannabis plants? And if yes, for both Vegetative and Flowerimg Stage? (Legal country)
Prevent ants mint works great , prevent slug dry coffee ☕️ ground works great , prevent masquitos lavender works great . For masquitos just simply put a lavender leaves or flowers on the chest pocket, they don’t bite you anymore. If they still do, then your body heat might be too high.
For indoor flies, to be honest, I never have that problems because I collect my urine indoor to fertilize my garden and plants love it, and guess what, those indoor flies love my pee as well they fly into it to drown themselves, no idea why but it works, I fertilize with my urine in a daily basis so there’s no smell problems at all.
Looks interesting but the part that u said what it does to the lungs worries me. I have asthma. How do you use it as a face mask?
Thanks so far the things that are seen are a pain!Hope the things unseen so much better
Works are because they actually breath and absorb they their skin
I feel like, all you would really need is the sprayed application, for top and bottom.
He puts way too much on top, especially once a week.
But really thank you for the video, it only helped me learn.
On the pets thing, it can cause respiratory problems if inhaled due to the silicates (because alveola, lung air sacs, are fragile like exoskeletons are), so if you bomb your pets with it, try to comb it out of them first. Also try not to inhale it yourself. Other than that, good stuff!
dont soak the damn leaves. use a mustard/ketchup bottle with the funnel top. fill it with DRY DIRT and just blow it out over your plant. a light dust so you can barely see it and done. it works on all insects. every single one. it even kills stomach bugs if you drink it
Having studied Entomology in uni, I know enough to know that there is a lot of very incorrect information about Insects/arthropods/classification in the video: (
WoW fantastic information may God bless you and yours. Much love from northwestern Louisiana ✝️
DO NOT INHALE…I had some blow into my face and that night I woke up with chest pains everytime I breathe. My upper back was hurting so badly, I thought I was about to check out of here. Went to the Dr. My lungs were inflamed. It took me almost a week to recuperate. So use a mask when applying.
The comments are great. I’d like to add that, as you did with your squash stem. you can do similar with celery. The problem I’ve had with celery is snails and slugs occupying the tight center where you can’t reach them manually. They do some big damage, also leave nearly every stalk very unappetizing. Same goes for the earwigs that are endemic in my area.
Thanks for video, It is my go to, use it regularly and is cheap. Grab a spoon full go under plant a propel up into center o it, a little over top. then shack plant. If not enough lands on soil I will through more under it. yes I make it snow. No gnats, flies, aphids, mites. Never on flowers not trying to kill bees. even found a stink bug who got covered on a tomato plant died a slow death. have a good grow.
Dig your channel. I use a flour sifter, way easier to evenly distribute. Dollar tree
I bought one of those dustin mizers a couple years ago, junk in my opinion. I prefer a parmesan jar with larger holes does a nice job, puts the stuff out where I want it for the DE. I use for the aphids that attack my tomato plants each year. Should also help for the mites.
your are incorrect…..We gring sea shells….To a powder…..but hole
I love diatomaceous earth. Cheap and fast way to eliminate wasp nests, too.
Used it many years ago for fleas in a dirt floor basement…BOOM! GONE! The semi crystalline structure pierces the exoskeleton of insects!
I’ve heard that you don’t want as thick or deal of a dusting where they would avoid it.
So, here’s what I use and do…
I have a battery powered small leaf blower that I got with a drill kit I purchased from Milwaulkee. Mine is the 18 volt stuff and works well for everything including what I’m going to explain.
I take an old used cinnamon shaker, (What ever you’ve got. turns out cinnamon is also a deterrent so it was in the chicken coop). Then I will take the last nozzle, smallest tube/final tube off so the center section of the blower is on it still.
I take the shaker now with the food grade DE, tap a bit of it into the air intake on the blower and dust the whole garden, yard, garage, patio, where ever I need to dust. It’s certainly a fog of dust so don’t forget to wear your mask.
Ugh I’m in Florida and started a compost bin three days ago and there’s roaches now!!!!! What do i do
Will it kill the worms in my garden if I use it on my plants?
can its kill good bees.?they polen all flowers in tomatos
Wont everyday watering will get in the way of doing this powder treatment?
Appreciate this share and all the others. Will it also help with greedy caterpillars?
What about the microbes on the leaves that protect the plant from predator microbes and make the leave unappealing to pests insects? I know they form a film over their bodies to protect them but wouldn’t DE break that down and kill the microbes?
Nice. So this actually kills vine borer’s also? I personally don’t get them in my area (Southwestern Ontario) but but with climate change and increasing temperatures I suspect one day I will in my area and this would be a useful to have a weapon to against them.
The gardening stuff sounds sound but your knowledge of Diatomaceous Earth is a little funny so wrong.
So much for saving time cutting the name to DE, blah blah blah blah blah
I have used it in my house as we live in a “biggie” area. Works great!
Great information. My brother just bought this for me… he uses it, but I didn’t have a clue! So…I’m trying a container garden (following https://youtu.be/xxdnRAy0Q50) and put a couple earthworms in the soil to brake down the organic compost material on the bottom layer. ANYWAYS, I started using the DE. Does that mean it’ll kill the worms in the soil? or (as you said) they would have to be dusted with DE to harm them??? Glad I found your site!
Hand crank blower. Very cheap and works far better. Can be used with sulfur as well.
I used this on the big black ant’s (carpenter ants) and they were gone in 24 hrs.
I successfully saved my ginger & basil plants from fungus gnats with a layer of sand & diotomacious earth, but I had to be careful, because it really dries the soil out for water loving plants. I had to make sure the basils especially were hand watered frequently at the stem base while the rest of the pot went bone dry to help kill off the larva. I have noticed some of my plants don’t seem to like the powder on their leaves because it’s too drying. I also allowed some spiders to weave webs over the plants indoors which has been sooo much more effective at killing off the adult gnats than vinegar water. Although that does work some.
His discussion about “arthropods” seems totally screwed up and wrong. Insects are arthropods. Earthworms are annelids, not arthropods. How can I trust this site?
I see a lot of people using Sevin Dust on their tomatoes. What’s the difference between the Diatomaceous Earth and Sevin Dust?
Gary, thanks, really needed the recommendation! I do need to ask a question, is the DE safe if it gets on the fruit, THANKS AGAIN!
Someone said to mix it with lemon essential oil to repel mice. Thanks for letting me save it for the arthropods and not waste it on rodents.
I know this may not be the appropriate video to ask but…..I recently started removing the sod in the spot I’m going to garden. There seems to be a large amount of white grubs in the soil. How do I get rid of them short of anything poisonous or detrimental to the soil life? I destroyed everyone I found but I am certain there are many more. And on average I am finding 2 per square foot. Do you think I’m wasting my time even planting here? On the good side, I have also found hundreds of red/earthworms, and the soil just under the grass is rich and beautiful!
Do you know whether diatomaceous earth can be used to kill weeds? I have massive amounts of weeds on a old rock wall/border running probably 300 feet or more above a flower bed bank. This area is also above the well so I do not want to use any chemicals that will seep into ground water. I’ve done the vinegar/salt/dish detergent method with pretty good results, but problem that is not a cost effective solution. I mean a gallon of that might clear ten feet. Any ideas? Don’t say just get out there and yank them. Ugh.
Thank you so so much! I always wondered what DE is in if it’s safe where it came from etc. this was a very comprehensive video and I appreciate it so much thank you very very much have a great day
This is Lisa Maggio. The picture here is of my husband since I am on his computer. I absolutely loved how you shared this product. I felt I was sitting across the table from you. I even thought I bet she has wonderful friends. I was wondering how to give this product to my dog if she is not supposed to breathe it in. Do I wet it and put it in her food?
I would NOT use DE on any plants that need pollinators… the DE will kill bees and butterflies.
I have one to two spiders that remain after dusting my tomato plant with DE. Does DE help kill spiders or is there anything else you’d suggest. Should I just let them stay?
Does DE kill lady bugs? Does it expire? I have a bag from last year, do you think it’s still effective?
Is there anything that will work on roly pollies? My cucumbers in my greenhouse have been getting demolished by them and tried DE and neem. Neither worked. Although I was spreading the DE on the soil and not on the plant, I was finding them crawling right through it not even bothered. Have been picking them out by the dozens giving them to the kids and the chickens. But it’s a never ending battle. Now that the leaves are up off the ground, they are eating the stems. Is it time for the bad stuff or is there still an organic cure for this problem?
Will diatomaceous earth help to kill parasites in cats if given to them with food, or used on their bodies for fleas. I thought I read that, but wanted to be sure.
I hope knowledgeable people will respond. Thx
Thanks, Christa! Very helpful and I love that you share God’s WORD with us all! Blessings to you and yours!
Borax has no other chemicals. It is completely natural. It is a natural boron salt. It’s called sodium tetraborate. It is not harmful and can be used as a supplement for boron.
Thank you for your encouragement today. II COR. 4 is one of my favorite chapters and I love the verses which precede yours… (7) But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. (8) We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; (9) Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; (10) Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” And ENDING WITH YOUR QUOTE: “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
So important for us to realize what you said-because we survive not just to survive but to experience the unseen and SEE what our eyes cannot-the beauty and gift and sanctity of life. The precious innocence of a baby and the unseen fight we must engage in to champion that child’s purity and affirm his/her worth. To SEE that we are not animals but loved souls created by God to undertake His exciting assignments!
AND AS FOR DIATOMACEOUS EARTH? Because of you, I bought 3 pounds but can’t remember which segment you used it in cooking? I think to line a cooking sheet or something? WOW!!! A+ for you…:)
Thank you for the inspirational good word at the end.❤️
I don’t use that brand for myslef or around my hiuse bc it looks like dirt
well,if this product can kill bugs, why do people take it? It’s pretty much sort of poison.
What effect, if any, do you think this might have on photosynthesis?
Works great if you have infestation of fleas or ants… other crawling bugs. Do not breath. Rub into pets coat not harmful at all. USE ONLY FOOD GRADE!!!!!!
Very informative video… I havent used DE in my garden yet. I plan to this season. I did just use it in my house. I purchased a bag of bird seed that had Grain Weevils in it and they got into my house. With allot of vacuuming and then putting DE along the baseboards in the infested spots. DE pretty much wiped them out thankfully. Weevils are no fun!
Napa Auto parts oil dry, part number 8822 is DE baked into cat litter size particles. It makes good bonsai soil and a good top dressing for soil in pots to keep gnats and other pests out of the soil. Some cat litter is the same thing but most of it doesn’t work for soil because it turns into mush when wet. But the oil dry keeps it’s size. It’s a good soil additive too if you want soil to drain faster and hold less water, which is why it works so well for bonsai trees.
The bag I bought came with a diffuser that you squeeze and it throws a small cloud. More efficient.
You use way too many words. Turned me off and confused me more.
Kills spiders too. We have brown recluse spiders and I’ve got this stuff in every corner of the house. I don’t see the spiders any more.
Your info about arthropods is incorrect. All insects are arthropods. As are arachnids, myriapods, and crustaceans. Arthropods have over a million described species and make up more than 80% of all described species in the animal kingdom. Also, diatomaceous earth is not ground up sea shells as you said. DE is a naturally occurring mineral deposit that consists of the fossilized remains of diatoms. But you are right about YouTube being filled with people spreading misinformation.
Dammmmmit!! I was completely in love… until you did the bible thing.
Please research it. Especially Deuteronomy make sure you only beat your slaves so that they’re still “functional” after three days. Also, conveniently, you can inherit them to your kids! Isn’t that lovely?
But I still am going to order DE tomorrow, bec. YOU say it works, and there is no mention of it in your bible. Wonder why………..
worms are not arthropods either they are phylum Annelidae stop pretending you know everything
It is also a fertilizer, as the dead Diatoms are Calcium and Silica.
My acupuncturist just recommended this for my dog. I had no idea that it could be eaten. My only knowledge of it was with cleaning out my neighbors chicken coop. I’m going to give this a whirl after hearing you speak so highly of it. Thanks for the beautiful message also!
I could have already told you that NO vet on the planet will EVER say DE works for ridding internal parasites. It just isn’t in their best $ interest. I know for a fact that it does work. I use it on my horses and can do my own ova (egg) counts with my clinical background and have never seen a single egg. This is after battling worms with products I got from the vet for years. Also gone from my horses is the pot bellies, the long hairs they got on their necks and chest and the dull coat; all symptoms of worm infestation.
I’ve been rescuing kittens the past few week and the most recent kitten is about 4 weeks old, severely underweight, definitely shows signs of upper respiratory infection, had flea, mite, & tying tick infestation. Before her flea bath I coated her with Diatomaceous earth. The carrier she came in had 2 ticks & fleas on it from her coat. I coated the cushion in her carrier with D.E. I let the D.E sit on her for an hour before doing her hot oil treatment & flea bath. When I went to wash her cost all of the fleas were dead, none were jumping towards her face. Unfortunately, there were still some walking dandruff which will require vet care & a lime sulfur dip. However, when I went to wash the covering of the cushion from her carrier that I had covered in D.EvALL OF THE BUGS WERE FLAT AND LOOKED LIKE MELTED SPECKS! I’ve taken D.E before myself and could go on about the awesome benefits. The stuff works! Dr’s are paid to encourage the use of drugs.
Thank you! A friend of mine told me about it so I’m just researching, thank you again
this is the same brand I bought for my cat to get rid of fleas did I get the wrong kind?????? also can I put it on my newborn kittens they are full of fleas from mama cat
Is this the food grade or not? Wish you would’ve specified
I believe I have thrips eating and killing all of my peppers and starting on my tomatoes can I use Diatomaceous on that bug will it get rid of it, I plan on doing it first thing in morning, spraying it mixed with water doing all my plants.
What I like about your garden channel is how many topics you address. Much appreciated
I started giving it to my cat and she use to be constipated a lot. Now, her poo come out long as they look probably sitting in her intestines, also, the worms I didn’t see b4, I see them coming out, out I’m definitely buying vet dewomer now that I see the worms.
The flea beetles on my eggplants seemed to thrive on it. What did I do wrong other than put eggplants in my garden?
I spray water with small bottle, then use puffer of DE, this way you can get the undersides of leaf. The bugs just live underneath if you don’t.
Years back, when I was young and had my first garden, I tried to figure out what was eating my young plants. I couldn’t find anything on them. My dad suggested I go out in the night to look. Flashlight in hand I found earwigs crawling on and off them. My dad told me about Diamatatious Earth. He had me dust around the base of the plants. It saved my garden. I’ve also used it recently and eradicated roaches that had recently invaded my apartment after some nasty tenants, below us, were evicted. A monthly spraying by, a pest control company, failed. I dusted inside the kitchen walls and placed a line edging walls and floor and inner sides of cabinets and drawers. It took one application and about two weeks and the problem was gone. The next time maintenance and the pest control man came, I told them their spray didn’t work so I took care of it with D.E. and no longer needed them. (I used food grade D.E. I also hated them spraying poison around as I have young grandchildren and a dog.)
I have a small hand-held, maybe 1-cup-size strainer that I load up with DE, then I tap it about waist high, and let it dust every plant and the ground in any effected area like powdered sugar. Within a day or two, all the arugula that had been being decimated by mint flea beetles and the like, stops being destroyed, and no new holes keep appearing. This year, my tomato plants had little holes all over the leaves, something was clearly hitting them hard! They were still in pots. At the same time, my basil had big holes in the leaves, just a few, but it was clearly the work of either slugs or Japanese beetles. So I put my tomato plants by my basil, dusted the whole area, left that on without watering for 2 days, presto, problem solved!! Yeah, everybody dies!!
is it have quantity/dosage for DE to use?.what happen to tree if over use dosage de?
Hi, Gary… Can I use DE on all my plants.. Tomatoes, peppers, corn, beans, cantaloupe, ect as well as on the ground for ants ect?
Thank you. You answered my question of the day. Guess I will stick to using it to kill bugs!
I use DE with water all the time, even for huge infestations. Works every. single. time! Love this stuff!
What a blessing all your videos have been! Keep on producing these videos! And the added verses at the end. God Bless!
I also give it to my chickens to keep them healthy. You only givebthem 2% to 4%. I mix it in the food.
I purchased the duster with your link yesterday, I can’t wait to try it out, I’m having a terrible time with ants farming aphids on one artichoke plant and I noticed today red spider mites have infected the other artichoke. Other than the pests the plants are growing great and are loaded with aritchokes.
Youtuber IAMORGANIC is so much more reliable on information this guy he doesn’t show facts
People don’t use diatomaceous earth on your pets! It’s not good for their lungs either!!!
Why does nobody post a successful update, proving their methods?
yes i please want to know will it kill squash bugs, i really hate those bugs and those borers. please tell me. i want to try that de.
If it kills mites and can be used on cats. Wonder if it could be used on hedgehogs. Much better than the vet treatments
Thank you.
I think I’ll drill some 5/16″ holes in a mayonaise jar. Shaker method. More even and light.
People!
I grow all sorts from cannabis to shallots to strawberries to whatever I can think of growing, whether to eat it or smoke it, purely aesthetically, downright challenging or relief from utter boredom! (lock down sucks don’t it just?!)
I once had an infection of fungus gnats from moody garden centre soil.I read up on it and amongst other methods I tried I hit on DE in 4/20.
This stuff is genius. For everyting!! Trust…this guy speaks veraciously,I recommend DE.I even mix a teaspoon in with fresh orange and drink it up gratefully! You can google up why…that way I know u’ll find out why I went and bought a 20kg sack of the stuff!
Oh,minor matter but DE is the fossilised remains of Diatoms hence the name lol Not just ground up seashells but like i said,it’s a minor.
Stuff’s cheap too.Bout 15 quid on E-bay for 20kg that’s as cheap as sugar I think? Peace folks…and support YOUR N.H.S if you’re lucky enough to have one
Thanks for the informative video, I had a bag of DE get soaking wet and I thought it was ruined! Glad this stuff is not too expensive.
Gary, I use empty baby powder bottles, fill them up with the DE and shake away. Good thing about these bottles is you can control the amount of DE powder by adjusting the top, and you can close off the top for storage.
Borax is a naturally occurring substance. Why would anyone not want to use it because it is a harsh “chemical?”
it works by pearcing the exoskeleton by abrasion and then enters inside the exoskeleton and continues to dehydrate the insect. any insect with an exoskelleton and you do not need to “dust the ants” you do not need to “land it on them” the insect just needs to crawl over it. you are so pretentious and you dont even know what you are talking about. take it from someone who took the course to become an exterminator
One of my neighbors built a car out of diatomaceous earth, the thing runs like a top!
I use DE in my coop of chickens! It stops any lice, mites, and other parasites. You even feed it to them in food for the parasites that might be inside the digestive tract. It makes up for roughly 5% the diet in poultry food. Very effective and natural..
Unfortunately it also kills earthworms so be careful great stuff use it on my chickens but kills good bugs as well as bad
Have been using DE on my pets for the past 5 years and they are in great health, energetic and shiny coats. I also take it and have great results. Everyone must do their research on anything we put on and in our bodies.
Dude, good on you for helping folks see how great this is, however you should do more research and you will love what you find. you will be able to explain more accurately what its all about, i won’t explain for you it takes to long. don’t forget to eat it yourself, a spoon a day is a great idea, seriously. it has made a world of difference in my health. you can usually buy it at any farm supply for about 25 bucks for 50 lbs. there is farm grade which is fine, food grade which is over priced and pool grade which is small granules instead of powder, you dot want that, they do that so water will flow quickly thru. it is not ground shells. it is the skeletons of plankton, tiny tiny sharp little pieces that scratch the exoskeleton of bugs parasites even killing viruses and microbes, brushing your teeth and remineralizing your teeth too. it ia amazing, don’t believe me, i know most young people think I’m nuts, sometimes its hard to do anyone a favor.
Can I use on flowered plants? Anyone? I have grasshoppers, spider mites and little black balls
PLEASE HELP…
this year all of my edibles (in ground or containers, raised bed) have been infested with ants. I’ve had the WORST harvest on all of my plants and the only common thing was the ants all in the soil, and all over the plants. So, I finally got some DE and didn’t check if it was good grade or not prior to a heavy dusting last night all over my cukes in the raised bed… blossoms, leaves, soil, ALL OVER. If I saw ants I covered. I obviously got carried away and can’t believe I didn’t notice to use food grade only after ALL the research I did and videos I watched etc… is this gonna kill my plants???? Please respond, ANYONE… signed, freaking out in alabama
Will this work on my young apple tree? It barely made it through last year due to Japanese beetles. I went out most nights and knocked them into soapy water, but couldn’t keep up with the damage.
U think it’ll work for squash vine borers? I’m having a horrible time with them in PA
I use this in my wormery to kill the fruit flies it doesn’t kill the worms. Any comments?
Always a pleasure to get knowledge from you Dan. Ive been using DE for years and this stuff is AWESOME. Everything he said so far about DE has been correct. Picked up a 55lb bag from my local farming feed store.
Thank you for sharing!
WOW! I found this to fight the bugs in my house without hurting my hamsters years ago, then last week I found out it can be used to make diy chalk paint, and now this?! Amazing:D
so it will kill fire ants because of joints…but not hurt earthworms??? someone pleasy reply & thanks.
I really wish someone shared this info w me when i was pregnant & got lice from a friend of mines kids. I stressed out so hard about not using chemicals & eventually used ACV, sea salt & coconut oil one time which solved it overnight THANK God… Thank u for taking time to explain DE’s many benefits. MANY BLESSINGS!:)))
I know this is a older video but I found it so helpful. Also just placed two more orders from your website. Thank you so much and God Bless!
I really need some help please? I threw jugs full of DE aroumd my house in every room. I have managed to vacuum up as much DE as I can but the dust is still everywhere. How can I remove the DE please?
Used all the time you saved in not saying diatomaceous earth explaining why you were not going to say diatomaceous earth….
So now the question comes up the use of DE and pollinators. Bees are already in decline so when you use it be consious of how and when.. Im thinking of spraying around the base of plants which should help against ants which mine aphids and spider mites which affect many plants. Please do not spray around blossoms when they are on.
Thanks for posting. We got DE for chatter control. From your description I would assume we dust it on the mulch areas where the problem is. Fingers crossed!
I have cutter bees that are demolishing my grape leaves and my raspberry leaves. How do I stop them!?!
New subscriber! Thank you for sharing this wonderful information! ❤️❤️❤️
I just love watching you because you explain I’m using all I’m learning in my garden
5:01 “… if you are someone who wants to avoid Borax and the chemicals that are in it… ” that’s kind of misleading… It implies that Borax is a potentially dangerous product.
Borax is a natural mineral compound that is mined chiefly in the California/Nevada area. It is used in many cleaning, cosmetic and health products. In fact, it is even used in making slime, which is something children play with. Borax does not contain any chemicals that one might be wanting to “avoid”.
Ok I’m all lost now! I leave on the outside of the city and I’m constantly fighting bugs out of my house. I being finding small spiders everywhere so on my search of how to get them out I watch videos that DE is great and safe. Can anyone tell me if it works and what kind the food grade or the other one. I want something safe for my family
DE is a food additive and can be purchased at your animal feed store. 50 pounds for $30 Canadian funds
Thank you. Had people tell me to use DE but nobody ever said how to use it and assumed it was just spread on the ground. Will try this method. Slugs and bugs already ate all my herbs.
1) DE is harmful to the lungs of pets and human when accidentally inhaled which occurs while using it. 2) DE is useless when it comes in contact with moisture. If you eat it, it loses its ability to kill any internal parasites.
Sir…Can we apply the DE on soil to get rid of centipedes…
Thank u
DE also kills ladybugs and other beneficial predatory insects.
Late to the party, but applying with a turkey baster works well and a scroll through the comments didn’t turn up anyone mentioning it.
over 1 million arthropods so careful using in garden, bees, spiders, worms, butterflies, ladybugs, praying mantis,i need these in my garden, but i love de just use it Carefully
You can’t feed a pregnant animal de cos it can make pups have ie calcification from what I habe read. Please do ur homework when using on animals or yourself ie Luke said.
The king JAMES BIBLE is the true version. All other bibles are new age.
Thank you so much for this explanation. I had a huge bag of “DE” and was so afraid of using it around bees! excellent!
hey Gary! I want to use it in a wet hose attached applicator and was wondering what the recommended dosages would be?
Wouldn’t this also kill beneficial insects like ground beetles?
FYI: When speaking about your disclaimer, you may want to let everyone know to seek out a HOMEOPATHIC Veterinarian as oppose to a Allopathic Veterinarian who will medicate you animal / pet / family member to death. Just a thought. Thank you for sharing!
Diatomacous earth is not sea shells its skeletal remains of an algae that it creates from minerals in the ocean, that an its 7 in the hardness scaleand it very sharp, eats away outer skeleton of bugs and dehydrates them, its not ground its microscopic cylinders that are negative ion charged, the food grade is very good for human consumption cleans intestinal tract and detoxs heavy metals parasites viruses, also great for hair nails and skin and high cholesterol.
My husband and I enjoy your program. It’s very informative and pleasant. Thank you for being there.
This stuff is a miracle. Here’s why. EVERYONE has dust mites. And they are nasty little buggers. If you wake up every morning with terrible allergies, and it never seems to go away. You need to try this. Turns out a lot of people coexist with dust mites, but their excrement (yeah, they poop) can cause serious problems as an allergen. I discovered this DE by chance. My child was hanging out with a kid and told us that his friends family were having trouble with bed bugs. Being clean freaks, me a my wife lost it. We immediately went to Lowe’s and bought a bed bug kit as a precautionary measure. And went to work treating the entire house. We never have had bed bugs. We just wanted to keep it that way. Well, an awesome side affect occurred in this seemingly nightmarish scenario. There was a powder in the bed big kit. It was DE. After reading that it contained no poisons, I started sprinkling that shit everywhere. I also mixed some of it into two bottles of carpet fresh. Dumped it all over the house, let it sit for 2 hours, and vacuumed it up. Woke up the next morning and for the first time in 30 years, I was breathing normally!! This stuff destroys dust mites. They will always be around. But you can certainly limit their numbers. DE is seriously a miracle. Try it. But get the best silica grade possible. Don’t get the stuff mixed with clay and other junk unless you’re using it for gardening. Go change your life.
I told my doctor that I was taking this and she said it’s wrong and it works really well
Does this affect the pollinator insects, bees butterflies etc?
What is the difference between seed potatoes and store bought?
I’m glad she said don’t wash your clothes with it because i was totally going to do that instead of boric acid.
I’m going to try this. Thank you for sharing, I will do a video and post results.
