Okay, bought the scale. Does my phone need to be in the same room when I weigh in?
AVOID THE FITBIT ARIA AT ALL COST. Cheaply made the load cells are held together with three cheap nylon strips that will break, not may break they will, buy any other scale. Fitbit will not help you if your one day over your 1 year warranty. It’s pricey junk. Look up,the common complaints for it.
Great video, try this calculator, it is more accurate https://www.health-calc.com/body-composition/skinfold-d-and-w
My fitbit scales decided to stop working when I changed Internet provider and had to connect it to different WiFi, I’ve had numerous issues with fitbit watches too, poor build quality I’d not recommend them to anyone.
withings is really sucks…i had errors 30times in 2months. it works for scale only and bmi checking has many problems.
No more nokia..
Great review look at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/867177233/adore-worlds-smartest-ai-powered-smart-scale?ref=popular
Great review, after watching it most certainly made my decision much easier.
Thanks!!! I went Withings thanks to your video. The only thing I’m having confusion on is the Bluetooth connection. Do I need to set up Bluetooth every time someone else uses the scale.
btw, you could also do what i had said with the sculpt, take care
Best detailed review of the top contenders on the market, thank you so much.
My fitbit died after the original batteries died, so it was a total waste of money.
Your voice kinda sounds like Louis CK doing a character.:) Anyways, thanks for the great review buddy, this helped me decide in favor of the Withings scale. Just ordered one!
Quick question. When the battery dies in the scale, do you have to “reset” the whole thing with new batteries? add in the users, configure wifi, etc?
Thanks
I meant that’s what I’m thinking but it wasn’t hundred percent sure that it that’s why asked
Good review, thanks. I’m still going for the Aria as I already have a Fitbit wearable. Incidentally, ‘stone’ is the imperial unit we Brits use to measure things. 1 stone = 14 pounds. A bit confusing if you’re not used to it, but it’s worked for us for centuries (to add to the confusion, we use kgs too)…:)
Is the scale storing data in the Apple Health app or only on internet and in its own app?
does the scale work without wifi? when u step on it, will the stats still shoe on the scale even if you don’t want to upload it? some of my family members aren’t going to bed to upload the stats.
I did not expect to get such an extensive review on wireless scales! Great Job!:D
Very very helpful review. How’s the new Nokia app treating you? I just bought the body cardio and the apps reviews are dreadful. Is it that bad? what has changed?
Wonderful review. Like I watch reviews daily and I’m very impressed with this. Kudos brother!:D
If I have a Fitbit HR charger, whats the best scale to get that will talk to fitbit program? Aria? There will be two users, thanks
wireless smart bluetooth4.0 fat scale https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073WH99S2?th=1
The fitbit said 50.1 lb because of the tissue underneath it. So it’s more accurate than the Withings.
Thanks for the review. I was lucky enough to get the WS-50 from my folks, must think I have porked out! Anyway on a weight theme I made this basic online excel file to see how my weight effects my cyclinghttp:// http://www.epo.me.uk/
I’d say the Skulpt is not as accurate as it claims. It may be more accurate for leaner individuals, but maybe not those over a certain BF%. I had a DXA done that said I was at 25%. I used the Skulpt and it said I was 20.3%. That’s a 4.7% difference, yet their site claims it to be within 1-2% of DXA. I e-mailed them about it and they requested my DXA scans so that they can have their research team look into it. But, in my experience it’s not accurate. My handheld OMRON said I was 24.8%. And that uses BIA which is purportedly far less accurate.
new batteries no response tested batteries tested okay scale said lo for a few days?
Disregarding the bells and whistles of the WS-50, is it still better than the Fitbit? Personally I don’t care about the forecast feature or the heart rate and air monitor.
I love our FitBit scale! But, I have always wondered how accurate the body fat percentage is, too, and how it knows who is who.
I bought the Withings scale and I have a fit bit. Is there a way to get my weight recorded to get it link to the fibit app?
Hello there I got my smart fitness the nicer of the two skill today and I set it up and my booty he saying that I’m not connected but I have my Wi-Fi hooked in doesn’t matter if the Bluetooth is connected or not still The Bluetooth is not paired it say when I go into the settings on the iPhone I wasn’t sure if I knew that running on the Wi-Fi if I needed it since I’m running on the Wi-Fi forward to the app
For the WiFi connectivity of these scales I can’t seem to find if a computer and/or phone on the same network needs to be powered on and wirelessly connected for the scale to be able to upload its data. I’d think it should be able to handle uploading on its own…but I can’t seem to verify this one way or another. Help? 😉
Looking at you 22% seems accurate you don’t look anything less than that
Thanks, great review. The Withings will automatically sync to my Fitbit app right? Or will I have to do it manually?
So for BF%, consider the skulpt AIM. It’s as accurate as within 1-2% of the gold standard you mentioned. But yeah! Check it out!
Yesterday I set up my new Withings scale and it worked fine. This morning I get all X’s for profile, fat%, etc. At one point I realized my phone Bluetooth was off, so I started that. Then I had to reset the back of the scale. They paired, but I’m still getting X’s.
Two questions: I don’t always leave BT on my phone, so can I get this to work with my computer? (I tried downloading an app but my computer wasn’t listed on compatible devices.)
And, how do I get it to remember my profile?
And a third: since it “remembers” me, what happens if a guest who weighs close to what I weigh uses the scale? Will it somehow log in under my profile? Other scales I’ve had let you choose your profile first.
Thanks as always!
Here I am again! I’m hoping you can provide faster responses than the company. I’ve written to them but because of the timing here they tell me to expect a several-day delay in response time.
I changed my wi-fi network on Wednesday and lost connection to my WS-50. I want to reconnect it to my computer. When I run the Pairing Wizard it tells me I need a USB cable. I didn’t get one with my scale. The first time I connected the scale I certainly didn’t need it. I’m not seeing any choice to enter an SSID address. What to do now?
Does this scale display small changes from day to day? It seems that every scale I’ve ever had shows me at exactly the same weight for 3-4 days, then suddenly there will be a drop of a pound or more. All this despite steadily consuming fewer calories than I’m expending. I’m hoping for a scale which will show slow steady change. Or maybe it’s accurate and it’s just my body’s natural flow?
This is such a rants for review, covered everything I could ever hope for. Thank you!
GREAT review! Thank you!
One question tho, these scales has been out for quite a while, is there a better one out now? Or these two are still the only ones that worth buying?
You should never do calipers on yourself…. your skin folds move whenever you move… also you need to get “all” the fat around the measuring sight. If there is fat you gotta go after it man. Find someone who is good at it and let them do it.
Great review. But I want to point out that for for the users of other FitBit products the scale app has much more features, since in syncs with your tracker
I have a fit one activity tracker and it is great so I decided to get the Aria scales from fitbit. Big mistake, I had two scales fail on me within a short period, luckily I got a full refund. I dont know how they can make one great product and another rubbush one. Stay away from the Aria scales. I have seen lots of people have problems with the Aria scales on the fitbit forum. I ended up getting the withings ws-50 and have had them for 3 months without any issues.
Fantastic review! I was debating between these two products and you helped me decide on purchasing the Withings Smart Body Analyzer. Thanks for making the very informative review.
With Fitbit there is a ton of people online reporting a problem with them, fortunatelly I was able to fixed mine, especially since it failed just after the end of warranty!.. really sloppy cabling inside and the wires break being pinched by the internal plastic reinforcement ridges https://youtu.be/dDEvXJIW4lY
omg HOW can scales with a such big price give different results?
14:22 158.1
14:36 156.7
Do you have to have a fitbit in order for the Fitbit Aria to do everything its suppose to do?
Excellent review. Thanks for posting this it helped narrow it down!
In all reality, you’re probably between 20-23%… you should start seeing upper abs around 18-20% and have a very visible 6 pack at 10-12%. 8-9% looks even sharper and is where most amateur bodybuilders come in for shows. 6-8% is ripped beyond belief and extremely difficult to achieve without the best genetics. Below 5% is nye impossible as your body needs at least that much to live.
You look like about 24%/25% to me in this video. Also according to the accu measure method (24mm abdomen). When i was 15% (dxa) i had clear eight pack abs.
No offense, but you’re no where near 14.7 percent. The 22% seems much more accurate.
Great video, thanks for do it. I will but a body fat monitors and I didn’t know if it works truly but now I see that it works.
I was dxa scanned at 15%. According to the skulpt my bf was 21%. That new algorythm is fucked up.
Regarding the point about the scale being very slippery because of the plastic feet, those feet are only if you are going to use the scale on carpet. If you are not using on carpet, do not attach the seat.
I bought the fitbit aria it was the fucking worst product I have ever purchased in my life. The software was complete fucking junk for android based phone. Would refuse to pair multiple users and would only connect to the phone when the router was set 2.4ghz band nothing noted in the instructions. Bought the withings and I couldn’t be happier FITBIT IS JUNK!!!!
Wow, that was a very detailed review/comparison, thanks!
One very important thing to note is that the Fitbit Aria has an issue where your batteries die and it no longer measures your weight (you keep getting an ERR message on the LCD screen), as per previous comments.
My roommate had that issue and Fitbit replaced it. I heard a lot of people were not that lucky =/
I want to get the Withings one, but now that Nokia bought it, I’m really worried if they’ll keep the same level of compatibility that Withings had…
Ex: If you go to MapMyFitness right now and try to connect a Withings app, you’ll get a “Withings Authorization Failed” error:(
Hi, let me tell you what i think you should do. I did the under water test many years ago and every year after i have the dexa done. You know this. The dexa is straight out accurate in everything it measures. What i did was take those exact numbers body fat muscle etc and go on the T bodyfat scale and work the numbers. if dexa is 15 percent bodyfat and the scale is 20, i go by the dexa so everytime u go on that scale, u measure the 20 percent as 15 bc thats what the dexa read. If you lose bodyfat and go down to an 8 your scale will be higher, 13% so that 13% is really 8%. I only go by the gold standard but its a pain in the ass to keep getting the dexa scan so ill do it once a year ps, Tanita company came out with a scale that is much more accurate then there other ones. i dont really understand the science but she said there scale use to measure one algorithm but now its 2
Nice job showing us the different ways to measure and their results.
Great review! Are both suitable for being stored in a wet / humid shower room?
Skulpt aim wasn’ t accurate. After the last updat it get worse.
I lost 10 kg and after the last updat my fp was higher then before and I’m sure I didn’t lose that much muscle.
AVOID THE FITBIT ARIA SCALE AT ALL COSTS, there is no way to service it mine lasted a tad over a year and customer support is a joke. Look for yourself search for problems with Fitbit aria and you will see that there are common issues due to cheap components and bad design.
look at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/867177233/adore-worlds-smartest-ai-powered-smart-scale?ref=popular
skin calipers and the dunking or water tank do not measure visceral fat ie fat in the muscle just surface fat. this is why the number is different. it is essentially a different test. a dexascan will measure visceral fat. thus the reading will be higher…sence the sculpt claims to measure muscle quality it by necessity is measuring visceral body fat. I just wanted to know if the reading on the sculpt would be the repeatable if done again after a few minutes.
I have this same issue with the Aria(one) scale. My weight will fluctuate dramatically if I step on an off the scale 20 times in a matter of a few minutes. I have taken to doing this so that I can gain an average but it’s not ideal.
Those dumbbells are probably not very accurate. You should check them on a scale that’s verified accurate first.
