Eating before a run is the worst i did the same mistake and while running for a 8km run I almost puked and my stomach was soo uncomfortable
Breathing. Always thought I had horrible stamina when I was in fact breathing incorrectly. Breathing was literally the difference between having to stop 3 times on a 1.25 mile run and being able to run 4 miles straight in 31 minutes.

Why not include at the end details of closest airport, distance from airport to resort (or other travel info if flying isn’t viable) and dates/time of year (if exact dates not available) of any potential runs/races which take place there? I can see with Arosa they do a trail series of different distances at the start of September by the looks of it so be good if you included this kind of info in the next video.

You know what I wish I knew when I started? That running is not for someone who is 277lbs. My achilles tendon will never forgive me for that mistake…
ALSO I recently started running again and I’m using the app “5k Running” and it’s kinda like the second app you introduced. It’s amazing and very simplistic, i love it.
One time i became the fastest runner in the world for almost 1 mile, broke all limits just to get to the toilet.
Weel… it’s like this, like I entered a marathon once and turned into utter disaster! I was not any near the front, and well, I felt my gut cramp up and yes, I wound up in public shitting myself from runner’s rubs. It was very embarrassing so I had to stop, find a porta-potty and well, finish my business. Later I gad found out what I had experienced is not uncommon it’s called runner’s diarrhoea. This happens when the gut is jostled a bit too much. What was worse, is that I had ran in a fundraiser for the C& C.UK The Crohbs abdcolitis UK. it is an awareness and eduxational organisation serving the UK as a whole, andI was particularily embarrassed as I too have IBD (Crohn’s disease) there is no cure but obly mabagement from an IBD team. Do some toning exercises such as weighted squats and donkey kicks.
Try changing your diet. Eat lots of protein and the right type of carbs and fats.
Wear the right clothes. Try butt-lifting underwear or a girdle.

Thank you for this motivational talk and tips of running. As you mentioned though, I have a few questions and would love it if you could answer some of them. A little background about me, I have just started running/light-jogging a couple of days back and cannot get a continuous run out. Could you please tell me a good time I can maintain at this stage to run and walk? Also, I have a bit of a flat foot on my left foot, so could you suggest a nice pair of running shoes for me? i have been running on and off for the past 5 years…..maximum i have hit is 10 km which was back in 2016…..currently i am doing 4 km…..
the biggest tip that i can share is to go at a natural pace which feels comfortable for your body movement…..dont run too fast…think about the distance you want to hit and use your energy wisely….
another helpful tip that i found through my experience is that breathing through the nose is key….dont breathe through your mouth…and check your breathing rate when you feel that extra discomfort in your body while running….regain control of your breath while running only…….you will feel sudden recharge in your body
and one more useful tip is to think about something else while running…like when you want to control your urge during sex…..think about something that calms you so that your breathing is in control….that is key

I’m still learning (overweight and old lol) but two things for me are to be OK with the running/jogging motion. My husband can walk at a slow pace faster than I can run but I feel like if I can get my body used to the difference in walking motion and jogging motion then that is a great first step. The second is to make myself breathe deeply, if I start to get tired I start breathing shallowly and then I’m not getting enough air, but if I make myself breathe deeper then I can keep going longer.
If you are running for pleasure, listen to music, podcasts etc. But for proper training it’s best to avoid all distractions, focus on breathing and listen to your body. It took me a while, but I can run 10k without a single song whilst before I struggled and got bored by the first 1k.
The effect gear has on your body is not subjective god i wish people would stop throwing this word around trying to sound smart.

I just purchased a flip belt for training for a half marathon and she isn’t kidding… It’s SO helpful!! For those of you training for longer distances, I’d recommend the flip belt and a camel back water pack. The flip belt CAN hold a small water bottle but it’s awkward and it could eventually cause chafing after a while.

Just a tip for you all, from experience and also fitness gurus, jogging for long distances isn’t the fastest way to get the body you want. To get in shape and to build more stamina, yes it is quite possibly the most effective way to do so. But in terms of getting your body to look how you want, it can kill lean muscle and only provide a slight calorie burn for how much running you end up doing and the stress you put on your joints. I would suggest lifting weights, as it ends up burning more calories and promotes muscle growth, do that along with just some light cardio consistently and you’d be golden
I’m a newbie runner, and had a fair few niggles particularly knees, but the one thing I have found most useful is warming-up with a few dynamic stretches before I head out. It makes my runs much more fluid. I have also learnt the importance of slowing down:-)
For long runs (tine-wise since people with longer proper experience tend to be more efficient at it and run longer while also faster) buy a belt (like the poach one in this video) but with a place for water. I have one that even came with two 150ml bottles one on each side but there are also those with a single one at the back and it’s usually a soft one.

Hi i just started jogging using the couch to 5k app, my fitness level is pretty low and im still in the 1st week of the program. My calves literally start killing half way through the workout and today (day 3) i experienced a weird disjointed feeling under my right knee. Is this normal? Is this expected and if so will it get better over time?

3 sprints, one olympic and my first ever Half marathon this weekend just gone…. Thats couch to half marathon in 6months with a time of 2hrs 8mins at Oulton park race circuit.
it can be done just take`s more time than you think…. Oh and be prepared for the pain of walking up stairs after some sessions as your legs hurt and no amount of foam rollering can stop it:)

Max I can jog is 6km and run at 80-90 is at least 1.5km and 100 is like 650m
Have not run in 8 years. I just do heavy weight lifting. First thing i did was running 8km in 52 min. I was DEAD like for real everything hurt and i was unable to walk for 2 days haha!! When i did my militaryservice i did 10 km in 43 min and could atleast walk the daya after lol.
Eddit: can add that im now at 110kg half bodybuilder half strongman compared to my slim 88 when i was 20yo haha.

Wanna get back like I said I missed the entire month of December…I am looking for something like a fitbit to help me keep track of my miles, times and show when I am in fat burning zone. Any info in this?
After runs 2 times a week I am always hungry and angry this hunger is worst than regular hunger? I am an obese person too plus I strength train at the gym with weights that I notice helps with zero joint pain…so I like it.
Honestly I’m just too shy to actually go outside and run ;-;

When you were pitching swimming to the runners, I claimed to be a swimmer who needed convincing to run. Here is why I”m not persuaded by your excellent presentation.
Swimming at 60 lbs (27.2 kg) overweight was no particular risk to my ability to walk. Now that I’ve lost 1/2 that, I just tried running a small amount recently. I felt the added impact of my excess weight hitting an instant after each initial impact. There are specialized hammers that increase the force of each blow by having movable weight inside the head. That’s what I was doing to my ankles.
I just read Haruki Murakami’s What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. He talks about the impact of being 8 lbs. overweight on his running. I’m dealing with 4 times that weight which I believe to be 16 times the impact.
How about this for Tip #12? Lose weight first.
GTN does the best videos on how to swim freestyle. Until I get my weight back to what it was years ago when I did tree surgery for a living, I’m sticking with swimming.
I use to be able to run so far but I stopped for 4 years and want to get back into it.. I get out of breath so easily now:(

Have you done any videos on Cross triathlon? (not X terra as they are soooo expensive and never in the UK). Road cycling is too scary here in UK and I’m a keen mtbiker and river swimmer so cross tris is definitely more appealing.. Cheers and thanks for the great content guys.
I usually get light pain in the ligament the day after I go for short runs, any thoughts abought that?
For the record, “Our local running store” in the US is often times a local shoe store. Be wary. They generally know nothing about the sport and are trying to sell you a product. You’ll need a specialty shoe store. Usually.
What’s about all the datas a garmin hrm tri at the beginning? Are they practicly or just something for pros?

Start with easy and even intermittent runs on grass. When your endurance kicks on, include easy runs uphill with walking downhill. All that (especially when you run barefoot on grass) will build your feet strength and flexibility, as well as hardwire the proper running form into your neuro-muscular system.

Mark, I’ve been running and involved in sports all my life. However, these last couple of years, both my calf muscles have become really problematic. No matter how much I warm up, stretch and take it easy, they keep getting injured which stops me from running for weeks at a time. I know it’s difficult without a diagnosis, but do you have any suggestion on how to stop this? Thanks so much.

An advice that has worked for me (I consider myself a beginner runner) is to increase your running cadence (number of steps/min) to about 170-180/min.
