If you ate Ezekiel bread with leafy greens and vegetables, I’d wonder what your BG would be. Insulin itself isn’t a bad thing. We want energy. Carbs are an efficient form of energy for humans, not fat. Fat being the primary fuel source seems off to me — you need sugar in some form to create energy. Carbs aren’t a problem if you are eating less than 50 grams of fat a day.

Great question, but I would not consider myself glycogen depleted. I just focus my carb intake on the right types of food, in the right quantities, at the right times. Most of the types of carbs i eat are 1 ingredient foods: sweet potato, oats, quinoa, fruit…and i eat them when i need the energy…pre and post workout and earlier in the day. Following this plan, it’s easy to Live Lean 365 days a year.

The main reason why rice is on the list for being not the best choice on a regular dieting basis is because rice digests too fast and spikes your insulin levels and you feel even hungrier after you eat it. You would be more full if you ate nothing. That’s why lean meat keeps you full longer than anything nutrition wise.
The difference might be the micronutrients & phytochemicals in the Ezekiel bread. The white bread might have harmful ingredients with no micronutrients.

Nice presentation. I used to love Ezekiel 4:9 bread before diagnosis with celiac disease. Now it is out of the question. A few years ago, I ate one slice to see what would happen. Gas at both ends for 5 days and 2 hour naps each afternoon for 7 days. It does have added gluten to it as well. But it is a wonderful bread for those who can tolerate it. I am now experimenting with sourdough of GF grains to make bread, but I know most don’t want to make their own breads.

Hi Brad, I’ve lost over 50lbs by reducing my carb intake (especially bread). I’ve been trying to reduce my husband’s bread intake for a while he has a bit of fat to lose but otherwise he wants to GAIN muscle weight. Problem is: he eats bread with nearly everything. He will not touch eggs without bread. So, while I am still on the hunt for an easy DIY sprouted bread recipe, can you suggest any other substitutes for him to have along with eggs? Thanks!
A good point you have made about Scripture. However, a year ago I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, had to lose weight, cut almost all carbs, lost almost 70 pounds down to 120 pounds and am now maintaining, with a normal liver enzyme test recently. When I got to this new weight I do more carbs now, which included the Ezekiel Raisin Muffins occasionally during each week, because I am supposed to avoid all purpose flour and breads with the many additives and only eat 100 percent whole wheat and other good stuff. I use Dave’s thin sliced bread for regular bread now, and now that I have watched this video I am saddened about the Ezekiel bread, even though the “christian scripture” part of this bread was never my reason for buying it in the first place. It seems there is always something sad, makes me want stop buying the muffins now, although I do know that wasn’t your purpose for this video.

I can’t always afford this bread…the grains look good… but… I guess I’ll stick with baking my own bread…& at this time, I don’t use buffalo chips for heating or cooking or baking…
The worst part about those really “good for you” breads is that they are so expensive! Where I am, if you want to go buy sprouted organic whole bread, it might cost about $7! And if it goes bad within days because you only eat 1 sandwich and use 2 slices a day, it feels like a lot of money to waste. True, you can keep it in the fridge or freezer but I just don’t like the idea of spending that much on one loaf.

I love ezekial bread and I eat a lot of it. I tried to stop eating it and cut out bread as a whole but I just love it too much. I find that ezekial bread definitely seems to have a better effect on my body compared to standard whole wheat. I also am not on a ketogenic diet so I don’t care about the carbs.

Then buy a bread making book (a little research and money required) but it is the highest quality bread you will ever consume while on your weight loss journey. No fillers, additives!, preservatives and it will help you be more kitchen efficient ie: hands on in your own meal preps.

I had some of this bread for the first time today. Firstly, it does not taste anything like conventional bread. It is very dense similar to banana bread. It is very brittle so could not toast it. The taste is not bad but its not the best tasting bread I’ve tried. I had it with my lamb dinner, Greek salad and spinach but could not easily soak up the olive with the bread (as Greeks do). I will give it a 6/10. I will make a sandwich tomorrow with it and see how it tastes. My favourite bread is Soy and Linseed.

i changed my diet to whole grain cereal and whole grain bread which i eat each day 3 times a day and all are rated LOW GI… and yes i always look at ingredients make sure high in fiber low in carbs high in protean and so on… and my weight is never been like this no fat, my weight is great, feel great, waist is awesome abs are out also eat lots of nuts fruit veggies water teas and so on… its like any other food out there make sure less ingredients and foods are LOW GI and you cant go wrong

Spelt is an ancient grain similar to wheat, but some people with wheat sensitivity (Wheat, not gluten. Wheat contains gluten, but so do many other grains. You can be allergic to wheat but not gluten.) can eat spelt with no problem.

Hey where did you buy the sprouted bread? Or what brand is it? I’ve been trying to cut down on bread but I’m still a work in process. I have compared labels of both breads before but I have found 100% whole wheat has much less calories than sprouted and I end up giving in to that. I’ve lost some weight from cutting calories so I gravitate towards foods in lower calories but now that I’m at a healthy weight I’m looking to step up my healthy eating.

Every person will react differently based on body type, thats why GI system is a study based on large Audience samples. I”m daibetic. & i have done similar Tests ( i test everyday, after each food) & also with CGM, In my case, Ezekiel Bread certainly has a slower reaction to blood sugar spikes compared to white bread. & it is Nutritious. Since I am Keto, I do not eat a lot of bread, but just have it once a while to curb the cravings. Everyone should do tests on their own, especially diabetic people, to know the impact on yourself body & how body reacts to certain & make adjustments to your diet.

And the rest of the starchy carbs still convert to blood sugars because they aren’t sprouts. Gluten is not the only problem with bread starch remains the major problem that still converts to blood glucose along with the glyphosate used to harvest wheat through defoliation of the plants. Everyone will eat what they want but I eat no wheat at all. Way too much bad stuff there these days to suit me, sprouts included.

oats are cooked with water so this is not correct. try eating wet weight oats it’s actually harder to eat than popcorn. the popcorn’s air is taking up space until it’s chewed so it takes up much less space in the stomach than the wet starches
I feel like you are being super misleading whenever you show us volume. Per volume unit of popped popcorn, there has to be something like 95% air, so holding up those two bowls just made me lawl. I bet they wouldn’t look much different if you showed us the volume unpopped.

The basic premise that most people really fail to understand is that glycemic index is essentially a measure of how fast a carb is digested and processed by your body. So saying that white and wheat bread have the same carb number is not important. What’s important is that I need 4 slices of white bread to reach the same satiety level that I get from eating one slice of Ezekiel bread.

I would have preferred to see equal portions, same grams of the bread compared. Comparing 2 slices to 2 slices is unequal comparison,
as two slices of Ezekiel is equivalent in weight to up to four slices of whitebread depending on the type of breads.
Back in the old days when God gave that recipe, He gave it to help SUSTAIN them.they didnt have what we have today and of course everything had a lot more nutrition then our food does today.They could probably live on it.

yes this is progressive improvement. hopefully you’ll continually decrease consumption so that you no longer want or crave it (that’s what i did)
The other part is while it is labeled as “Flourless” from sprouted grains ( not the biblical recipe requirement either) it then makes up for it by adding large amounts of straightwheat -gluten to keep it together. ( Not a natural ingredient balance at all)
I credit ‘health food’ such as this as probably responsible for triggering the gluten allergy in my body a couple years ago ( I had never been allergic to anything before) Non organic wheat(gluten) is heavily treated with glyphosate(RoundUp) and drenched in it just before harvest.

I live in Petaluma, California..We have Alvarado Street Bakery in town. They make more than Sprouted Wheat Bread. All their breads are Sprouted Grain Breads and Delicious. They make all kinds of incredibly healthy and nutricious breads.
I tried the Ezekiel bread from Trader Joes 2 different times a few months apart and both times I got a terrible stomach ache. I never got a stomach ache before or after trying this bread. Never bought it again.

Hello Brad, I’ve recently started eating sunflower seed bread and pumpernickel….I can pronounce all the ingredients, its not from the freezer though. I eat two slices a day. You think it would be best to just eliminate that as well? I just eat it to make sure i get enough energy and calories. It tastes terrible anyway.

People do not be mislead by this guy. You don’t have to keep bread out of your diet in order to lose weight. In the end it’s all about calories. If you eat more calories than you burn, you sure to gain weight and vice versa. Moderation is key. Eat and be happy!
how bout beverages for morning, i’ve been having a cup of tea with full cream milk for over 10 years, i normally have 4 pieces of toast with margarine with either canned baked beans or eggs. i kind of get a headache when i dont get my tea fix in the morning, any advice on what else i can drink and eat??? much appreciated.
Ezekiel bread is a common bodybuilding staple. Jay Cutler is big on it. Using sprouted grains means it is tolerable by most who normally eat gluten-free. I use Angelic Brand Sprouted Grain Breads (Wisconsin). Only 60 calories a slice, high in fiber and you can pronounce all the ingredients. I never liked heavy grain breads which sprouted breads are not. If you are going to have any bread “sprouted” is the way to go.
I recently tried eating one piece a day of the Ezekiel Bread with breakfast every day. I liked the nutty flavor and texture, though I suffered ever increasing shoulder and neck pain, getting worse each day, until I realized the culprit. I believe that it’s probably the high amount of wheat germ lectin in this bread that causes problems for me. I usually have a piece of good quality white sourdough bread with breakfast, which seems to agree with me fine, so it’s not the gluten but the large am’t of wheat germ in Ezekiel Bread. It would probably be ok for me to have a piece once in awhile but def. not every day.
We must remember the recipe was for Ezekiel alone for him to carry out the assignment God had given him,It was not for the world,therefore no recipe.
More expensive doesn’t mean it’s better for you. Neither does saying all the right things on your packaging. I often wonder what the bread tasted like 2,000 years ago when Jesus would sit with his disciples and eat fish with bread.

There’s not much of a difference but Ezekiel contains an maybe 8 times more of the nutrients and vitamins present in white bread and all for relatively the same caloric intake.
I’m very new to your ministry. I was searching for a Messianic Seder last week and found your presentation from last year. It was very informative and helpful. I also participated in Saturday’s service online. I was encouraged till now. I never elected to start eating Ezekiel 4:9 because it was supposedly somehow holy or “Christian.” I eat it because nine years ago I was sick, diseased and taking 7 medications. I took control of the food I eat instead of allowing food to control me. I lost 50 pounds without trying, came off six of the seven medications and am healthier than I’ve been in years. Then it prompted me to do the same with my finances getting control of my finances instead of my money controlling me. Using the more than 2300 verses in the Bible with regard to finances, I am 100% out of debt, everything is completely paid off including my house and I have an emergency fund. Then this pandemic happened and because of these changes, I am healthy and I am not stressed by what it happening in the world. I’m using my free time to study the Bible even more. I’m disappointed given all the subjects you have chosen that this is what you deemed important.
Agree… Based on glucose the bread didn’t make a difference but based on nutrition and digestion that’s where Ezekiel bread will shine. Staying fuller longer and being able to digest foods is more important than a temporary spike in sugar levels.

Like the video, I agree with you and have done it myself (cut carbs) the additional thing that I might mention as far as breads not being great for us is the gluten factor. I do not agree with Juncal230975 at all. Breads, ie: sugars to include other sugars do cause weight gain and the storage of fat, effect insulen and hormones.The studies are out there.

Good info, right to the point. This format is going to be a nice addition to the blog. Tip: Ezekiel tortillas have the least amount of gluten, as they don’t add extra to this product, unlike the breads, which they add extra gluten to. I feel bloated with the breads/muffins, but not the tortillas.
Don’t really care about the glycemic index. Switched to Ezekiel bread and lost 35 pounds. Got my blood pressure under control. Great product.

Very interesting information, but a bit windy in its presentation. I eat Ezekiel and Trader Joe’s non-flour breads because I think they taste better than, say, Wonder Bread.
Maybe the slew of chemicals found in other breads is a reason to avoid them.
I don’t know what the fuck rice you are looking at but on planet Earth rice has the same amount of protein as bread, plus if I eat 100 g of bread it’s like I’m eating nothing if I eat 100 g of rice I’m full. Also choose integral rice it’s tastier. The rice I buy has 7 g of protein per 100g

The company ruined this once exceptional bread. They used to sprout the grains themselves, and bake it at 140 degrees. It had a wonderful nutty rich taste and was so healthy. I practically lived on it. Then they changed the formula, using sprouted flour instead of the sprouted grains, adding wheat gluten, and baked at a much higher temperature. It tastes dry now and the added wheat gluten ruined it for anyone with mild gluten sensitivity like me. I bake my own now.

Ezekiel bread and white bread are partners in crime when speaking of blood sugar spiking. I do think for people who are not diabetic that Ezekiel bread would be beneficial in terms of better nutrition to be fair.

Oats most certainly do have some great goodness that the refined carb sources do not. Highest protein of the bunch in the list and actually has micro-nutrient value. Get them oats!

I am trying to lose weight. Today I had 2 slices Ezekiel roast with real strawberry fruit jam.,very delicious.
I love bread, my whole wheat organic seed bread is 140 calories and 4 grams of fiber 6 grams of protein per slice. Make a peanut butter sandwich with a tablespoon of chia seeds in the peanut butter and i can get 12gs of fiber and 22g of protien for 420 calories. And greg the unateral part of peanut butter is hydrogenated fats which is not good for weight lose. Oh and some people dont have time to fetishize our calories. Popcorn takes to damn long to eat. Oatmeal ftw. But yeah I get if you can’t “put down the fork” why popcorn is good for that.
This is just weird. I know a lot of people, including myself who eat it for the health value. And we are all Christ followers but not a single one of us thinks we are holier bcz we eat it. It’s just sprouted bread. And the Lord did give guidelines for food bcz it is actually healthier, but not a way to salvation.
The first study said the seeds were germinated for 168 days and the second study said 9 days. Lol. Ezekiel bread is probably sprouted within 24 hours before dehydrated and ground up so can you really assume these benefits? A bit insincere:/

Just learned that this is not the biblical receipe. It has soybeans really. What marketing ex. thought this was bright idea. It is not is a horrible ingredient. I will never eat this again. Spread the word. 27% of people have thyroid issues. This makes it worse.

I usually agree with everything you say, but a few things in this video triggered me because you seem quite biased:
1. You’re using white rice, and white bread as your examples. They’ve had the vast majority of their fibre and nutrients stripped away from them when the bran is removed. Of course they’re not healthy.
2. When talking about which will make you fuller, you compare the volume of prepared popcorn vs unprepared oatmeal. That is biased and incomparable. Popcorn is full of air. It’s not very dense. Raw oatmeal is much more dense, and after cooking, its volume increases substantially, exactly like popcorn does. If you ground down prepared popcorn into flour and added water, the difference in volume would not be nearly as shocking as you make it out to be.
3. You recognise that toast is fast digesting, but state that by covering it in egg whites, that greatly reduces the absorption rate because they’re full of protein. But then you state that rice cakes which are also fast absorbing, are still fast absorbing after covering them in peanut butter, which is high in protein and fat; both of which slow down digestion. You seem biased on this.
Could you test to see if eating it with fat such as kerrygold butter would lower the spike? From what I understand fats help minimize the blood sugar spike.
Pasta has more protein than all of these. Do you have an opinion on pasta as a carb source? I eat this lentil pasta (lots of carbs, fiber) and it has 20-25g of protein per serving plus the carbs. Thoughts?
if i workout earlier in the day, i stop eating carbs by 6 and have a protein/fat based snack about 1-2 hours before i go to bed
The issue isn’t that they have marketed Ezekiel 4:9, the issue you are discussing are people who are purchasing it b/c they think it makes them holy. I personally have not heard anyone who buys this bread claim that is the reason why (to become more holy) I feel like you brought some unnecessary negativity to a brand that has done nothing wrong. Just my 2 cents

Bread is fun but it doesn’t add to my plate
substitute veggies and maybe a little fruit! raw cucumbers, red peppers, zucchinis, etc. Add hummus or salsa and it’s a great tradeoff. i’ve never tried the raw food diet but i have a friend in the business that does it, loves it, and sees great results.
It’s so hard to give up on bread though.. I believe it could be answer to some of my problems. I tried to not eat it and I lasted only three days, when it’s cold outside you want something warm and bread is the food you start craving…
I will try to quit it during summer, when it’s nice and warm outside and you don’t crave carbs that much perhaps 21 days will be enough to get rid of it from my life.

Hard to imagine how their claim of GI @ 36 is true if the blood sugar spikes were basically the same when the GI of white bread is 80

I have almost completely cut out bread per my doctor’s instruction. I do not have a gluten intolerance or other problems, but I have lost weight not eating bread. However, there are times when I just want a good sandwich and this bread sounds like just what will work basically high in protein. You did not mention how many carbs this has, but I will check it out when I shop next. Thank you

There is some appropriate nutrition information in this video but it seems like a a fairly blatant product endorsement overall. There are many sprouted grain breads that may be a better choice for many people as they do not contain any wheat product which has been shown to be a problem. If you are being paid to promote a particular brand then your information will be biased and should be revealed. I’ve followed Authority Nutrition for a while now and am mostly impressed with your info I hope you maintain focus on research-based data and not give in to product/branding pressure.
