Great info. Bioelectrical impedance tools(hand-held or bathroom BF scales) are definitely great tools to track changes and get a great estimate to your body fat %. I find that it’s consistent as long as you do what you said(same day&time). I recommend in the morning(before breakfast). I also like to use calipers and measuring tape on ‘problem areas’. From experience, I know when my waist is at ‘X’ inches, then I’m at 10% body fat.) to be quite accurate.
For circumference BF% measurements, I personally have found the Navy Body Fat Calculator(Height,Weight,Waist,Neck,Hip
Hi Paul…this is a good way to give an estimate however I have struggled with this method around the belly mainly due to bloating or some water retention (on high carbs day). Any tips on how we can get around this? Maybe do it on certain points in a day or days of the week etc.?

How can the circumference method not take into account height? I’m a tall guy and the method tells me I’m 30% fat. Other methods have suggested I’m more like 22%. Without height input, I really question the accuracy of the circumference method.

Ways this video is wrong & inaccurate:
1. He didn’t measure her arm-fat. He measured how far the skin would stretch. In order to measure the fat, you need to pinch and measure the amount of millimeters of fat tissue BETWEEN your fingers. Instead, he measured how far away the skin would reach away from the arm. Wrong.
2. Like the video said: Different people have fat on different places. That’s why you need to measure at multiple places! Don’t only measure the arm. Measure at multiple places on the body and combine the results.
3. Don’t use a ruler. Use a caliper. It’s way more accurate.
4. Don’t only use one way of determining body fat percentage. Measuring body fat is hard and most methods have their flaws. Use multiple methods and compare the results.

Measuring your arm has to be subjective.
If you have pear or apple shaped body you’ll store most of your fat in either your upper or lower body
But women have different places to accumulate fat the most. Two women who have same bf%, and say one of them accumulate it more on the upper body area, where as the other one, lets say gains more fat on the lower body area won’t have the same bf percentage with this same formula. So how can this be accurate? And if this isn’t, what is the more accurate formula? I’d like to know.

Calipers are not accurate… it was way off my DexaScan measurements.

It is a great one off product for discovering a weird waist slimming water to lose belly fat without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my BF got astronomical success with it.

I’m a 16 year old boy with 14% body fat. I lost a lot of weight recently but I’m still not where I would like to be. I just measured my body fat percentage and it ended up being 14% which surprised me, because I looked up pictures and I don’t look like I’m 14% body fat but instead look more like I’m around 20%. My theory is maybe I just have some extra fat because of puberty but I do not look like I’m 14% at all. Does anybody know why this is?

Mine said 4% realistically its more like mid 20’s im guessing.. im 5’10” 256lbs 42″ at naval 19 1/4″ neck arms are just shy of 20″ decent definition for a guy my size but nowhere close to 4%.. No one thinks he looks like that body fat level because the pics they’re used to seeing of people at that body fat are of fitness models and bodybuilders, who are on gear. Roids increase your blood volume, thus making the veins pop out more. Natty vascularity doesn’t show up on camera as well as juicehead vascularity, but I can assure you that if you saw Jeff in person, he would look pretty damn veiny.

My whole body is getting toned and im lean too….but my tummy…the lower abs are just not changing at all. I got 12% but going by those pictures I would be more like 8%. I am really lean, veins popping out everywhere and the finer striations in my muscles are quite visible when I exercise. Trying to bulk back up a little after some serious cutting. Went from 85kg down to 76 over three months hard training with strict calorie restriction. That was after already loosing 18kgs over the previous 18 months. I will have to see what my waist measures before I eat tomorrow and try again? Not long finished feasting so the waist is a bit expanded. I doubt I would be 8% but it seems like I would probably be below 12%?
My scale says 24 and my measurements say 25, I like the scale because I can also track my muscle mass to make sure my overall weight loss is fat not muscle, up to 36.5% muscle mass!

The calculator gave me 10-12% (depending on where I measure my waist, at the navel or right above) but looking at myself in the mirror I look more like 16-17% comparing my body to bodyfat charts. I only see the very top of my abs, a few inches above my belly button. Anyone have any insight into this?

Calipers only calculate subcutaneous fat but the real fat that is inside the belly, how can that be measured by this meathod?

It doesn’t work for me. The webcalculator gives me 13%, the scales at the gym 15% and my home scales 18%. But whatever number still no abs in sight so just keep going on losing weight and working out.

I think he’s doing it wrong… Is it me, or is he measuring not the thickness of the fold, but the length of the top of the fold? Hard to explain. Calipers measure the thickness of what is pinched it looks like here is measuring how far the skin is pulled from the body. Am I right?
If you had 2% body fat you would die say you are 200 pounds 2% fat thats 4 pounds your brain and organs are mostly fat the brain is 60% fat and is 3 pounds so about half your fat not including fat from your organs and essential fat to store to support your skin muscle and bone and 1% of that 2% is litteraly just your brain so either your brainless and organless or just increadibly stupid

Paul, using the formula you provide is what we use in the military. For the waist measurement on males we use the belly button. For women we use where the waist is narrowest. Which for females can be slightly above the belly button.

This method does not take into account muscle vs fat (muscular neck vs fat neck). The US Army calculator is much more accurate and even relate your results to a fitness level.

Okay so I am getting 9.22% (10 mm pectoral, 13 mm abdominal, 10 mm thigh) body fat % but that makes no sense. I have been working out for a long while and have some nice abs I can feel all 6 of them when I touch them but only the upper 4 can be seen because I have a small belly. Which I shouldn’t have if I am athlete level of fat percentage, no? I can only think of three possible solutions.
1) My measurements are incorrect. I tried increasing them by 50% just for the sake of it and I got 14% which is still too low if I compare it to images of other guys at 14%

3) I had three periods during the last 5 years where I was losing 10 kilos a month. First time was 3 months (107-77). Second one was just for a month and I lost 11 kilos. Third one was 2 months (85-65). As you can guess I had periods of gaining weight inbetween as well. Currently I am 69 kg. Is it possible that the ENTIRETY of this belly is just loose excess skin? In that case am I doomed to never be able to see my 5th and 6th ab unless I drop 5k euro for a surgery? Jesus, I don’t even have a home lol.
I wonder what the +/is for this calculator. I plugged in my measurements and got 9% body fat. 5’11” 12″ neck 27″ waist 172lbs. I would have guessed I’m around 12% body fat but going by the photos provided I’m in between the 6-7% and 10-12%.

I used to measure around my fattiest areas, namely my gut and ass, at the widest points possible. If those numbers went down, I had to be losing fat. The gut’s tricky because I could suck in and fool myself, so I would try and measure at then end of a relaxed but deep exhale every time.
Measured neck with belt… woke up many hours later with my Youtube on Autoplay going thru all the Paul Revelia vids.
I’m 5′ tall 110lbs and gives me 23% body fat. Same as my scale. I can see my four upper abs but my mommy pooch is still there but try as i may i just can’t go lower than that. That’s that mean that my mommy belly will never disappear? I think is worth mentioning that i have 5 kids and just wondering if it’s possible to reach that tightening in your lower belly. I really like the way I look in the mirror except when I jump it still wobbles.

Well I tried the navy test and I got -2% bodyfat so yeah, guess I was dead this whole time oh and also my lean mass was 153 but I only weight 150 so yeah I also defy physics apparently, good to know

This calculator says I am 14% body fat while doing stupid formula math is saying I am 16% I think this is more legit and I think I’m a little while I am eligible for abs at 199 lbs
When using the Navy body fat formula,use what the Navy considers to be your waist. You would have to look online,as I am stating from long term memory,the U.S. Navy waist is press in tight on the hip bone,put the tape measure above it,(may or may not be belly button), exhale take two measurements,must be within an inch,take the average,drop partial inch,enter in formula.

If you dont have a measuring tape, use a shoelace or a thin belt or a piece of string and then measure that against a yard stick or measuring tape. (The best to use is Tailors Tape used specifically for taking measurements.)

@gravity Training Zonethe devices that track your body fat by holding up is not exactly acturate or have an inconsistency. I tested on one it showed me at 18% body fat at my real age. When I changed the age to 25 all the sudden i am consistently at 14% body fat. That is a huge difference. I did the same test on a body fat scale and age 25 was closer to my real body fat. Adding my real age 40 yrs old brought the body fat 3-4% higher. So now i just use the tape measure. Thanks for the video.

Have been walking around with 9% for 2 months… You just look soo small in clothes your sex drive goes down crazy and your face looks so bony. I suggest going for 12-14% wayy healthier and better for gains.

I used to be 11% without dieting or anything. Just natural metabolism. I have been playing soccer and the Kudo for all my life but I have never seen my six pack ahahahah I suppose either my gym had faulty equipment or I DO NOT have muscles at all. Which is weird tho. I definitely CAN play judo…

I use a soft measuring tape that is for sewing purposes. Works great! And I’ve been using the navy calculator for a while now but wasn’t sure how accurate it was so I’m glad to know you approve.
Imo 10% to 14% bf is ideal, other lower than that you start looking like a transformer

Wait! The calculation depends on the pinch right? The problem here is u can grab how much ever fat u want.. If u want u can grab more fat or even less and due to that the results vary.. So is there any way to pinch properly in order to get the optimum measurement?
if you want to get to 5/7% BF you should try cardio and intermittent fasting works pretty well and fast
I normally sit around 10% very comfortably and I can say that in my senior year of high school, I cut over 20 pounds to make the weight class and I was probably in that 7% range and I can tell you, it was horrible. I looked like I was dying constantly and I didn’t even feel strong. Unless you’re competing, I wouldn’t purposely try to dip below 8%

everyodys body physioology behaves differently under different body fat %ages. You can be below 10% in a very healthy way depending on how strategic you are with your diet and training on what/when/how you’re doing everything.

Nice job with the half=assed cherry picking your measurements what a joke. Truth be told she is likely 35*40%. In addition to the bicep, you measure the pectoral, the iliac, and mid thigh. You also have to measure the circumference of the neck, chest, waist hips, arms and legs relaxed and contracted. Then AFTER you average out all of the ALL OF THE MEASUREMENTS you go to the body fat chart.

This vid seems a bit, well, lopsided. Fat people do look like that. And way more extreme. (way, shudder, way more extreme…)
But, I am more interested in figuring out where I am on the scale. I swim, a lot, and cycle some, but I don’t lift. And I am simply not on your scale at all. None of the bodies displayed look anything like me. (5’9 & 69Kg, but, that’s meaningless as far as bodyfat. Maybe you guys are simply doing it wrong, and the measurement should be muscle %?)
