I started to do this 4 days ago, especially to see if it helps with my mild scoliosis. The first day I almost got cramps in my legs and arms, I hold it for just 3.5 minutes. Second day: slightly better, still painful but not to the point of almost getting cramps. I could hold it for the full 5 minutes. Third day: I tried to relax, first my legs, later my arms, finally my torso, and it gets way easier to hold the position. Today, same. I still have to get up carefully, though. Extra bonus: I just read that it helps to thin your waist, so this last time I measured my waist before and after. To my surprise, I lost almost 2 cm, in just one day! I measured myself later in the day, and still the same 2 cm lost. Amazing!

Bad posture is also a result of mouth breathing and bad tongue posture in childhood which further result In crooked teeth and underdeveloped jaw. If you have mouth breathing habit from childhood.

Hey, I’ve watched this video about 100 times now just to keep it stuck in my head and I’ve seen a lot of improvement with my posture due to the workouts and stretches. I keep having one issue though, and it’s when I’m trying to stand up straight; my lower ribs always seem to want flare out and my lower spine curves in as well. I’m assuming it’s compensation for me trying to correct my upper spine. I tighten my abs and do my best to get my lower ribs back in while straightening spine and tucking my chin, but I’m not really sure if that’s what I should be doing. Is it ok to let my lower ribs flare out like they’re trying to do?

update: three months after my initial attempt I have osteoarthritis in my left shoulder and I can no longer get it even close to the required position, but before that I had done it for a few weeks. it feels sore for a bit but eventually my hips felt a bit more aligned. (my scoliosis makes my right shoulder about 3″ lower and my right leg appear about an inch shortee due to pelvic maladjustment) This is not a miracle cure by any means!!! It does help improve posture and core strength and helped me sleep wirh a little less pain. Keep trying it for a few months.

I love you guys, I was an Aussie Physiotherapist for about 30 years, and miss the job. You know the thing with lead guitar players though, “I do it better”….well, what about lower trapezius needing 135 degrees of scaption to really work I don’t think you get your elbows high enough..(I know, picky, picky picky)….

You guys are hilarious! Do you have a video about meralgia paresthetica? I get some numbness/tingling at front of one of my thighs sometimes when I do lunges or split squats, and it tends to linger for a few days.
Been doing this 10 straight days now. My back feels great. My stomach however has not changed one bit. I will keep doing the exercise because of the benefits to my back. However, I have realistic expectations. It’s not going to flatten my stomach. Of this I am sure. A group of 100 people at the gym did this for 30 days. They made a class out of it. NONE of them lost any stomach fat.

I was once told I walk leaning forward a little, so I think I’m realizing I have a lot of these issues. 3x a day would be tough, but I’ll at least try to incorporate them more regularly. Never hurts to look taller and open up the chest when you’re walking around.
Identify the cause, sitting back on couch, hours on end. Stand up still in same position. Chin up, shoulders back, chest out!

Day 1:while doing the exercise my arms were a bit painful, after the excersise my back cracked it didn’t hurt but I’m not sure if that was suppose to happen but my back pain did lessen up a bit
Day 2: My thumb was hurting because of the position they were in. The back pain I have is lessening up I was able to sleep more comfortable.

I’m 6’5”. When I stand up straight like this, I can’t see anything…everything is built for small people
I had sever kyphosis from 100 extra pounds of weight. This made me lack in self confidence so I would slouch my shoulders to try and hide myself I guess. My upper back and hamstrings were incredibly tight doing most of the work (laborer so I really need my whole body all day). My hips were so tilted foward. I had almost no lateral muscle because of this. My hips were so pointy and almost touching my ribs… I didn’t even notice until I slowly popped and stretched my spine out. My calfs, biceps, triceps, and butt muscles were rolled up pretty much dead. My shoulders were so stuck I couldn’t drop them more then an inch and a half from my ear. My clavicle was at 65° angle. Bad posture absolutely wreaked havoc on my body. I’ve been correcting it for 2 weeks now and the results are tremendous.

LOVED THE IDEA so I’m giving it a try. Adding this into my regimen while sheltering from home.THIS IS NOT EASY. The feet pronation is the most difficult part. I found myself having to breathe through it. So I’ll keep you posted! But the first one really stretched all kind of muscles along the entire spinal column. A question from watching all your sleeping videos. I finally have found (knock on wood) a pillow for side sleeping. But it’s terrible for back sleeping because it’s too high. I find myself at night turning onto my back and then of course I know why I have pain in my neck. What can I do because I have to actually wake up and switch pillows and my whole set up so that I can change onto my my back and that interrupts my sleep. any suggestions?? Also, what can you do when you sleep on your back and keep your head from turning to one side.?? Can we work on both? This is a good question and from my experience I say ‘yes’ only if you are no more than 25 Ibs overweight. After that the quality of the specific posture exercises declines because the weight on the spinal joints alters the ideal movements and puts more stress onto the joints.
I feel the best solution is to first get the weight down to within 25-30 Ibs of your ideal and then, the posture exercises can be done safely, without adding excess stress and strain onto the joints. Of course we can still learn to sit long and tall and keep from slouching but these are not the posture exercises I am referring to when I say, lose the weight before correcting your posture you will be less likely to cause injury and you won’t get frustrated when you don’t see results. Put the effort where it belongs lifestyle and weight loss and then posture.

you guys indeed are best physiotherapist on the internet,kudos for such helpful videos you put up there. i have a question,i got my shoulder dislocated in sleep and later on diagnosis it turned out to be anterior dislocation with humerus head fracture. now my dilemma is weather to go with surgery or not as i am already 30 and i read that once dislocated there are possibilities of multiple episodes as i am hoping to limit my lifestyle to less agile type,could you please provide some advice,thanks anyways

Jesse, cte from cuncussions may be avoidable. Perhaps you two can come up some exercises and nutrition to prevent it. I did not start to recognize any symptoms until my 40s. Had I known they were coming maybe I could have done more to detain them. Coconut oil and cbd oil seem to help now, but I bet you guys can find much more to combat concussion based cte.

How to take breathing:
* Sit up straight, keep your neck straight, chin slightly forward, sit cross-legged, gently place your hands on your thighs.
* Relax the abdominal muscles, breathe in deeply and deeply through the nose so that the abdomen is enlarged, the sides of the abdomen expand. Then exhale strongly with the same force, trying to push all the air out so that your belly goes flat.
*Every 10 deep breaths relax and breathe normally for about 15 seconds. This procedure can be repeated 5 times, but each time should be done up to 5 minutes.

I never thought of that. One thing made effect the other. Very informative. This stretch might just be the key. I’ve been working on my round shoulder and it’s been looking good but realize that I have a pretty bad forward head posture.

I tried this and had a neck and sciatic release. This worked to unkink my neck, I could feel two pops as if I had had a slight Chiropractic adjustment. My sciatic release after about 4 minutes, was much more relaxed.
I didn’t feel any discomfort or pain during this exercise… I can easily do this.. how..??

Thank you. As a dancer I spend a lot of time in front of mirrors. As a dance Youtuber who is now also taking a dance film class, I also spend a lot of time staring at footage of myself dancing. I was feeling very discouraged and really disliking my appearance, and feeling like maybe I’m stuck this way since I’m a way-past-full-time student or that it would take forever. Hearing that some people make a good bit of improvement in 2 weeks makes me feel better. I’m gonna do my best to try to fix this.
What kind of pillow should be used by a person who has hunchback? And how is the best position to sleep?
One of the best things I did for my computer-desk posture was to get a split keyboard (not just an ergonomic keyboard, this is literally a keyboard split in half) and separate them on my desk by shoulder width. Immediately allowed me to comfortably keep my shoulders back and got rid of a bunch of upper back pain. Once my shoulders are back, I find it easier to keep my head back as well to avoid forward head posture.
It’s no joke having your spine screwed up and I fail to see the humor some find in it by their rude insensitive comments. My 16 year old son has Scheuermanns kyphosis. It’s painful and disfiguring. They don’t know exactly the cause but think it happens in puberty with growth spurts or something. I had to take him out of school because of horrendous bullying for something he had no control over. Surgeons basically told him to live with it. I’m going to start taking him to a chiropractor. I know it can’t erase the “hump” but to give him relief. Please don’t be insensitive if you see someone with this condition because not only are they self conscience about their appearance they are most likely in a lot of pain.
It’s my first day and felt not doing more than 2 minutes and paining

Been doing this for 3 weeks today. Gained 2.8 lbs. It hurt a lot at first but better now. PALMS DOWN! It’s like my telling you to lie on your back and point your big toes together towards the floor and aim your heels towards the ceiling. That is very difficult and painful. I haven’t missed a single day in 3 weeks.

I’m trying to get into university and I’m not even exaggerating; I get home from school at 2.30 and then every single day apart from the weekends I have 3 hours of private lessons. On top of that, I need to study for at least 3-4 hours throughout the day.

First day(July 1st) I felt some pain don’t worry that is natural but overall great method luckily I was able to hold it for about 7 minutes and so far by the comments it looks like it works so I’m going to try to not forget.
