I was so happy to find out that pecans are a definite “can eat” on Keto. I have about 14 pecan trees on my property and we are going to be harvesting pretty soon. We always have pecans in our deep freezer (yep, I’m from the South, too) and I was snacking on some earlier this evening. In case people are unaware, the smaller the pecan, the sweeter the nut meat. The larger ones can sometimes be a bit bitter.

Hello, doctor! My husband has high blood pressure (160/100) but not taking medication. He’s been on Keto for about 10 days. I just checked his bp and it’s still at that level. I’ve read ground eggshells is good to add to dogs’ food. I’ve got one with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia so always reading about weird crap for dogs. She’s been at <7% HCT 3 times in one year so technically shouldn’t have survived. I must’ve done something right because it’s almost one year since her last transfusion!! Now I need to get myself healthy.

I stumbled across you a few days ago (Friday to be exact) and have been mesmorized ever since with not only learning about the Keto nutritional way of eating (which, I converted to that day), but your mission for honesty, integrity and sencerity to stand up and educate and dismantle the lies and misinformation from those powerful medical, educational and media based entities we’ve been manipulated by for decades and have impacted the human condition to the state it’s in at present. I find it disturbing, to say the very least, to know or have it confirmed, we have been and continue to be lied to d misled by those entities we look to for expertise in our health. Wanting to believe a doctor cares and has our best interest at heart, since we are not educated in medicine as a doctor would be, is truly disheartening when one begins to learn your best interests really are NOT their concern (not to say they don’t exactly care, but when they are choosing to place people in danger, because they refuse to stay on top of research, which could help people…then I consider the behavior negligent and reckless). As I watch your videos I find myself feeling both sad and angry, because I watched my parents and many other loved ones needlessly suffer…when there was knowledge of a better way available, including myself. My sincere apologies for the “soap boxing”, but I want to thank you so much for opening my eyes and educating people in what is really going on and providing resources for information, so we can continue to educate ourselves. I definitely have seen the benefits of reducing carbs, went from eating 6 slices (or sometimes more) of bread daily to 0 and I feel fuller on every meal despite eating less food. The one thing I have to ask though, I know that while my carb intake is low, it’s still higher than 24 grams per day, maybe double that (rice is a massive staple in our country and very hard to remove completely). How does that affect my ketogenic state?
I have lost 5 pounds very effortlessly just by reducing my carb intake. Is what I am doing hindering my ketogenic state from getting faster at processing fat? I occassionally do intermittent fasting as well.
Speaking of eggshells… My uncle used to throw a whole raw egg (shell incl.) into the blender to make a milkshake. Would that work in a smoothie? Btw, great vids. Thanks

I dry cook my cauliflower in a pan with nothing until it dries out and loses some of the cauliflower taste then add seasonings.It really tastes and feels more like rice.Im definately trying this except using black olives, i don’t like the saltyness of green olives.

This still surprises me, how a lot of people have no idea about Custokebon Secrets, even though lots of people get good result with it. Thanks to my friend who told me about Custokebon Secrets, I’ve lost plenty of weight by using it without starving myself.
I use a food processor to cut up my cauliflower and save all the cores in a freezer bag and when I have enough i boil them and puree them and make a creamy soup with them. Cauliflower’s here are about $.350 each and I don’t waste any of it.

Where I live, Grocery Outlet and the.99 store save me $$. At Grocery Outlet I get cheese (including some imported and ‘exotic’ cheeses), meat, organic whole milk (for my SCD yogurt), meats, nuts, olive oil, eggs… They have an aisle with Almond flour, psyllium husk, chia seed, avocado oil, coconut oil, etc, at usually half the cost of regular stores or amazon.
At the.99 store I mostly get produce. Best quality first thing in the morning. Also small bottles of real vanilla extract and small packages of coconut flour (for when I run out at the end of the month). I live in Central California.

If you do the numbers it is actually cheaper to eat carnivore than to include vegetables to get the same calories and nutrients. As an example Eskimos have virtually no access to vegetable matter and didn’t suffer from heart disease or cancer until they started getting access to Western processed food, the got some glycogen from eating raw meat but no veggies.
Carnivore is no more expensive than eating veggies to get your calories and nutrition Eg 1 kilo of broccoli costs $9 at the moment and gives 308 calories and 46 grams of protein. On a typical daily requirement of 2,400 calories you would need to eat 8 KILOS of broccoli! Or $72 worth! 1 kilo of rump steak ( marbeled) gives you your 2,400 calories for $23, and a kilo of salmon steaks ($28) gives you the same ( more with the skin). Beef mince is even better at $10 a kilo for 2,260 calories.and whole chicken is only $4.50 a kilo for about the same calories,
Which would you prefer to eat 1 kilo of mince for $10 or 8 kilos of broccoli for $72?

Dr Berry can you please help me to understand this issue I been fighting with for decades now! It is a nightmare to say the least. I bleed and swell in my nose whenever I eat fats and it is really bad whenever a wee bit of say natural sugars get with the fat intake I get very sick physically. I also feel like I am flu like all the time with food and I feel my best when I don’t eat! I started taking B Vitamins and I am seeing this is helping me. I think I been very deficient. I went through the past 10 years hardly eating and was on a raw food diet mostly through this and I got a lot of relief but I can’t keep this up. I am trying meats now but I struggle so much. I stopped at the ingredients to the first dish. They all add up to lots of carbs, so to me that isn’t keto.
I make more what I would call a meat broth I do put bones and shells..I make large batches concentrate and freeze.
I can and buy in bulk I have a vacuum sealer and 2 pressure caner very handy.
Really watch the canned fish. I found many tuna brands have filler crap like soy. Not just soy oil but soy. The best tuna is in tuna oil.

I found a Family that has a bunch of Chickens and they don’t even collect the Eggs… I made a deal with them that I would make some nests and collect those eggs plus go find the hidden nests… I will sort the eggs, clean the fresh ones and boil the old (not Fresh) eggs and moosh those up for Chicken Feed and split the fresh ones with them… they didn’t/don’t want any of the eggs but think that my mooshed up Chicken Feed is cool.
They just like the Roosters Crowing and then watching them all (I have to agree, I like watching them as well)… it is a win win

Thank you for another great video, Dr. Berry. I love cooking roast pork and beef on the weekend. I chop it up and freeze it in individual serving size. That way through the week I can just throw it in the skillet with some olive oil and scramble in some eggs and have my dinner. This makes one meal a day much more enjoyable since I can have food that takes a long time to cook without investing hours on cooking on work days. BTW, I always add bacon to my meals and save the bacon fat. I love your advice, Dr. Berry. You have helped me go from 389 lbs to 175 lbs in just under 2 years. Happy and Healthy is possible at the age of 52. If anyone ever told you you could not lose weight over 50, well I am living proof that you can. Just follow the advice that makes sense to you. I have the advantage of having a doctor who gives a very similar message to Dr. Berry and that helps me to keep this journey safe.

No bullshit, I cooked smoked bacon from wholefoods the other morning, I was going out of town didn’t want fish to go bad, so I cooked my Salmon in the bacon grease and it was good…not as good as my Ghee butter…but it wasn’t bad!!

Dr. Berry I so enjoy your videos, thank you for the wealth of info. I watched your video on thyroid and Im curious. I started Low Carb / wheat-free eating Aug. 1st, 2016, then switched to Keto April 22,2017. I lost over that period 42 lb. then just stalled, so for over a yr. now. Even picking back up 18.lbs, of which 9 are back off. I continue to eat this way because I feel so much better and was able to get off BP Meds. But it is so hard for me to lose and keep it off, they checked TSH said it was okay, was 4. Something. But I have so many of the signs like Im still fat, 193 at 5’5. No energy, hair falling out like crazy, no outer eyebrows, no excitement for life, Arthritis in spine, tested positive for RH. Hey also. My question is this, if You get thyroid medicine will it help you lose weight and fix all those things? I thought going Keto would fix it all. Thanks! Becky!

This is such a great video. So many people out there eat horribly basically because they havent the funds to buy expensive produce or everythinng Organic!!! I gotta tell ya….my family…wer just doin the best we can eating wha we can afford. Its too bad that human beings are held hostage by both the market on food and medications….itsas though not having alot of money makes them 2nd class citizens as they are forced to purchase foods that are chemically or hormonally treated and held hostage by their montly prescription bills that further takes away their ability to purchase better healthier food choices. Most of us would prefer organic i presume…..but making the changes ur wuuggesting is doable!!! Very helpful dr berry…i love thaat even as a pprominant doctor u are not out here pushing supplements to buy or wonder pills to take for keto..just educating us to eat what god has intended fromthe beginning….and even as a physician ur equally concernedwith patients of lower income status…i think that is just awsome….very noble

Make friends with a hunter during hunting season. I get a deer every year and only pay for processing and split this with family and friends because I don’t have a deep freezer to contain it all. It’s as free range and lean as you can get and you can cook/fry up the meat however way you want with your choice of fat.

Bless you for mentioning home canning. I have been hot water canning for about half a century, and last year discovered pressure canning. I have become addicted to it. It gives you a shelf stable product that can last years, and you are not paying for the hydro to keep food frozen. I only have a small electric pressure canner (4 pints per load, or 6 half pints), I can buy a whole turkey, can the bigger chunks of meat (raw pack or cooked meat) and use the bones for my bone broth, which I also can. Buy a whole ham. East what you want fresh, and can the rest. From trial and error, found we prefer our veggies fresh or frozen, but there are great deals at farmer’s markets in the fall. One last thing you cannot pressure can food in an Instant Pot. It must be labeled a pressure canner.
Hey Dr Berry, I’m a new sub. And I am so glad I found your channel! I’m on day 6 and I already feel better! However, I do have a question. Headaches,? I’ve been having them daily since I started. I haven’t given up coffee so I know that’s not the cause. Is this normal? And will it pass?

TIP FOR THOSE IN CA and TX: 99 Cents Only stores sell lots of fresh produce cheap, and sometimes they get in meats nearing expiry. When I was in CA, I fed myself almost entirely with food from 99 Cents Only. Sliced meats, sardines, coconuts, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, baby guava, spinach, cabbage, sprouts, bacon, onion, avocado, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, eggs, sourcream, cheese, cottage cheese, tomato, peppers………………………………………..

I like the message here. A lot of other keto videos try to make you feel stupid if you dont shop at pricey health food stores. They’re almost reinforcing the belief that eating healthy is expensive.
Drink green tea when you want to remove that fishy smell from canned fish. It also removes spiciness from your mouth. Plus it is a great antioxidant!

I have watched so many videos saying you can only this certain kind of meat, certain kinds of veggies, etc and it was very discouraging since some of those things are so pricey. I feel much better and am going to continue Keto (was considering stopping because of what it was costing me) and buy the best I can for that week.

Love your messages, Dr. Berry and follow you closely. I have one thing to add to your message. When you start the Keto Diet and quit buying processed food, you actually start saving Money! Think about the expense of: Chips, Cookies, Breads, Packaged Foods (rice mixes, pasta mixes, macaroni & cheese, etc.), sodas, cereals, snack crackers, etc. I went from almost $150 per week to $100 per week for my groceries. I buy fresh vegetables, grass fed beef and organic chicken, kerrygold butter, several cheeses and heavy whipping cream. My life is so much simpler since I don’t have to sort through boxes to decide what to fix for dinner. My husband doesn’t think he’s on Keto…but he is eating healthier and feeling fuller. 😉 Bless you for continuing to educate us!!
Egg roll in a bowl was one of the meals I meal prepped for lunch this week. I used bagged broccoli slaw in mine. So good. My other favorite is a low carb stir fry.
Have to watch the canned fish.. often it is packed in canola oil. (at least it is here in Canada) they sure do want us Canadians gobbling up that Canola! They shove that junk in everything!

There’s a couple of fundamental questions regarding Keto I’d like you to respond to if you could. In the weight-loss phase, for those doing keto for that purpose, how do you lose fat by eating fat? May I presume it’s because you ultimately consume very little food due to satiation responses? And while in a specific weight-loss phase one should keep food intake to a minimum while looking to keep the nutritional value of what one does consume to a maximum? i.e. if you’re consuming sufficient fuel by way of fats won’t your body ignore the stored stuff?
Also, how does any weight-loss fat-reduction diet not involve ketosis? How can any diet that involves fat-loss/burning not involve ketosis? And if the body can break down stored fat into ketones and glycogens and fuel on the glycogens and discard the ketones (by way of general calorie intake restriction) why not just do that? Does that argument become about insulin levels?

Who said you can’t lose weight when you’re old? I’m 71 and in three months lost 20 pounds. No sugar, ; 18 hour fasting window, no bread, pasta, rice, processed anything. Drink half-half milk with no additives in my coffee. Lunch is a salad with one boiled egg, sprinkled with bacon bits, O sugar dressing. Dinner is cooked veggies and a little meat, or salmon. My favorite drink is water with squeezed lemon and a couple of drops of stevia. Good Luck you all, you can do this!

Many people have a flower bed in a sunny spot. Tip: devote that space to growing greens, like kale, spinach, Swiss shard, mustard greens, etc.
Early spring, as soon as the ground can be dug up, you can plant leaf lettuce, green onions, and radishes. In between the rows, plant a row of rainbow swiss chard. As soon as the lettuce starts to bolt and the radishes are done, transplant the swiss chard plants to fill the bed. Those plants will be so gorgeous with their red, yellow and pink stems and veins… and they never get bitter, even in hot weather. About 6 weeks before frost, you can start Kale seed. Kale will grow until frost… and then get even better! Frost takes all the slight bitterness out of Kale. it almost tastes like a different vegetable, once frost hits it.
And to keep that Kale growing deep into winter, place straw bales around the edge of the bed, and sticks across it. Plastic across the top completes a system that will take you through nights down in the 20’s. And if you want to even out the temps more, just line the sides of the bed with jugs of water. They absorb heat during the day and let it off slowly at night. During the coldest part of the winter, the Kale will seem to die back. But when the weather starts to warm up a little, watch: the heart of those dead-looking plants will start to send up the prettiest little green shoots, and first thing you know, you’ve got a bed full of wonderful low-carb veggies again!
One year of this, and you’ll probably double the size of that bed.

I have a question. Is it a good idea to cycle the proteins and veggies on a day to day basis? Say for example, I have eggs and low carb homemade chilli one day and the next, it’s no meat, I have veggie soup with added fats like avacado or olive oil. Trying to balance my protein, fat and vegetables in every meal is difficult so I’ve been doing it this way to kind of get different macros on different days. Is this a good way of going about this diet?
