Carbs don’t cause instant weight gain, but starchy carbs do have a tendency to be calorie-dense. And if you eat too many calories, you’ll probably put on weight, whether those calories are from carbs or another nutrient. Sure, it’s a problem. It’s true that eating too many carbs can make you gain weight, especially if they’re low-fiber, high-glycemic carbs. Glycemic load describes the way your blood.
A Guest Post by Jessica Apple The idea that fat causes weight gain seems to come from that fact that fat has nine calories per gram while carbohydrates have only four.If raised insulin drives weight gain, then conversely, reduced insulin (from cutting carbs) should be therapeutic. In other words, we’d expect an extremely low carb diet to cause more fat loss than a typical Western diet.Carbs contain roughly 4 calories per gram; so if you ate 100 grams of pure carbohydrates, you would be consuming 400 calories. Carbohydrates are also the main component to affecting blood sugar and our body’s natural response with insulin.
There is a direct. If eating too many carbs causes you to consume more calories than your body burns off, you’ll likely gain weight. In fact, if you indulge in too many carbs and eat just 500 calories more than you.Keeping this weight loss equation in mind, it does not matter if the calories come from carbs, fat or protein. That means the number of calories you eat is responsible whether you gain or lose weight and not the carbs.make sure that you have a negative balance of energy at the end of the day – meaning your body burns more calories.
Some of the weight you gain when you eat carbs is water weight. Glycogen the stored form of carbohydrates in your muscles – attaches to water in your body, MayoClinic.com reports. That’s why low-carb dieters often lose large amounts of water weight when they first begin their diets.Weight loss.
A prime way to eat fiber is through whole grains like brown rice, barley and bulgur, which are also low in carbs. Refined carbs like the ones in your favorite pastas have little nutritional value. This can cause a rise and fall in your blood.Carbohydrates are necessary for energy, but you will gain less water weight if you stick to the complex carbohydrates found in whole grains such as barley, brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal, popcorn, and whole wheat breads and pastas. For weight gain, you need a healthy balance of all these nutrients, which roughly boils down to 10 to 35 percent of calories from protein, 45 to 65 percent from carbs and 20 to 35 percent from fat. There is more than enough real-world and scientific evidence present to conclusively state that it is NOT carbs, sugar, fat, gluten, dairy, fruit, alcohol, fast food, junk food, red meat, non-Paleo food, or any other one specific food, food group, or nutrient that.Carbohydrates have largely been shunned by the health-conscious in recent years but certain kinds do not actually cause weight gain, research has indicated. 8 hour eating windows 14 hours fasting. Watch videos from dr Ronda Patrick
My question is could eating late at night affect REM sleep enough, via the energy supplied to the body during food breakdown, to cause sleep pattern issues that could, in turn, lead to more muscle loss instead of fat loss.
Polyunsaturated fat has been shown to slow down your production of t3 which will make it much easier to get fat.
One thing that wasn’t mentioned was trans fats. Summary:They are bad for you and make you fat.
Trans fat causes fat gain because it lowers hdl, and causes triglycerides (a form of fat in the blood stream), ldl, and vldl. Trans fats are the killer. Not all saturated fats are made equal either. The high amounts of saturated fats in coconut is actually healthy and raises hdl and lowers ldl.
This so-called balanced diet is what got us in the mess we’re in, so if we’re going to make a change we need to stop doing what got us sick, fat, tired and depressed.
There really is nothing wrong with eating rice, or indeed any carbs, esp. from whole foods.
Lifestyle and cultural differences (NEAT expenditure, active lifestyles and availability of food) can more than accommodate a carbohydrate rich diet, and staples such as rice and potatoes have necessarily supported whole populations for literally generations without any obesity crisis. (Jason Fung explains this very well in this interview: https://youtu.be/jXXGxoNFag4?t=2959 )
Also the jury is out on what constitutes “good” and “bad” fats, and recent research is continually calling into question the benefits of PUFA vs Saturated fats, (and the “good cholesterol, bad cholesterol” theory was widely debunked about 15 years ago) so this kind language is over-simplistic and misleading.
Good rule of thumb: Look out for inherent biases in these ‘informational’ videos. eg, absence of citations, types of language used.
Background: I personally ‘cycle’ between ketogenic and ‘slow carb’ type diets as I find both to be beneficial depending on the context of my own health and fitness goals. That doesn’t make this dude’s info any more accurate.
Bottom line is listen to your own body and find what kind of diet works best for you, instead of taking your info from some guy on youtube.
I hope I`d recognized this specific “Yamzoko Weebly” sooner! (Google it) I would`ve shed 14 pounds years back. Uncover more about. Search it making use of Google. I didn’t switch my diet program whatsoever or work out. It surely curbs your desires for food but doesn’t make you feel jittery..
carbs and sugar triggers the hormone called insulin.
however fiber is a carb that doesn’t break down in the body so these are okay!
proteins triggers insulin but way less then carbs.
fat trigger insulin very little.
I’ve been eating ham with mayo and mix nuts with a multivitamin and fiber supplements5.
and I feel amazing! I only weight 125 pounds
I eat 98% carbs what am I supposed to eat if I want to lose weight
research keto diet if you dont already know.. Your welcome.. now enjoy your new lean life
Asians talking about not ditching rice as a staple forgetting there is the brown version which isn’t the same at all…
Instructions unclear
I have 1table spoon of chicken every day
Animal fat will not cause heart disease. Try it for yourself. This video is 70% correct.
Sunflower oil is big no no. Go for Oliveoil, butter or cocconutoil. Think about carbs like suger.
I am plant based now however I do wonder about the extraneous variable wow comparing us with other countries. The variable I am talking about is lifestyle. Many other countries also don’t sit all day so doesn’t that have something to do with it as well? I’m just wondering how the research was done as far as making the control group on some of these studies.
My father doesn’t want to understand this. He even giving me pressure to take `rice and bread’. How can I convince him?
I talked to a guy on YouTube who was eating
100% meat diet. I asked him how he gets his
Fiber? He said fiber is not needed.
I thought to myself
What else in life is not needed?
Money?
Car?
Wife?
Steak?
Pizza?
I eat vegan keto because I do have a problem with carbs. No one should be eating sugar or white flours/rice. I’m vegan for the animals and keto for myself.
I know I’m late but fat makes you fat. Carbs are good for you stop making up science.
Cite the studies that say saturated fats are bad.. i’ll be waiting.
avoid rice?,.. shut up… no.
Thanks to genetics i never got fat….
Whole milk is that good for you studies show that your b***** liar
After doing time restricted feeding my taste buds have become stronger and more sensitive. I switched cream and sugar coffee for black coffee, and not eating for 18-21 hours a day has made me appreciate sugar. Baby carrots are delicious, sweet potatoes is actually deliciously sweet. I have grown to love different flavors.
I’m ideal weight and eat a rather high fat diet, avoiding anything that says low fat.
But I avoid white bread and fried foods (heated oils).
Mississippi is the fattest state, lots of fried chicken.
I warned a guy about white bread, saying it clogs up the system and blood stream, he mocked me over it, then had a stroke, can’t walk or talk now.
We demonized fat for decades but now its ok and we demonize carbs instead hmmmmm……… Are we looking for a scapegoat to pass the blame?
Jeff, do YOU eat carbs before going to bed? You really do that?
Independently from reading and commenting all the CURRENT (latest) studies, which could be easily contradicted by opposite conclusions in future studies (it happens all the time in the scientific world), it would be interesting to know what do YOU, yourself, CONCRETELY do or don’t do with your body, to get the amazing results you have.
I mostly work out very late, just before sleeping. As a post workout shake I get whey protein, still avoiding carbs. Honestly.
LOW FAT means HIGH SUGAR and sugar makes you as fat as a whale.
People that only eat low fat and diet all the time look ugly thin to me.
As a Chinese, I used to admire the American diet of breads, cereal and cheesecake. Now in my 30’s I feel so fortunate that I wasn’t raised to be addicted to sugar as pathetic American children are being conditioned to
That Japanese restaurant food looks delicious. Please tell the name and location of it. Thanks!
Insulin keeps adipose tissue in place, and enlarges it. As long as what you eat induces little to no insulin response, you can lose weight eating it. Some people can have high insulin, and still be lean because their fat burns it instead of storing it (see Brown Adipose Tissue). Other people are lean with low insulin. But no one is fat on low insulin.
Subscribed from this. Great science backed advice and straight to the point be well man!
FUCKEN THANK YOU. Your the only honest person that understands what some of these people have a problem with. Its not fat thats your issue its that carb and bread. Want proof? Try not eating carbs for a day and see how much your body will crave it. Complex carbs are good in moderation but you need more fiber and fat, LIKE ALOT MORE in your diet.
And then there’s me my friends force me to eat McDonald’s once and I gain 8 kg
DID YOU ACTUALLY USE ONE OF MY FAVE TUNES OF ALL TIME OH MY GOD!!! Rui Da Silva’s Touch me bless you peeps
it gots 4 months to gain 1 pound of fat for the women. But how much weight did they gained trurthly? becuase we not only gain fat..
So I’m all for a plant based diet but this video is just a bunch of people saying fat makes you fat and complex carbs are good… please go further and explain how our body utilizes saturated fat vs healthy fats and how our body uses complex carbs vs simple carbs
Notice how no one in this video mentions the word I-N-S-U-L-I-N.
Note processed carbs like rice have a high gi but it can get lower with a veggi or a salad
Hint
Asian people eat rice all the time and look at the obesity rate
I would like to see your sources down in the description box, please!
It doesn’t matter what you eat as much as regulating the amount and variety (look it up)— consistency is key. And low fat usually means less calories if you’re consuming the same amount in terms of carbs of course that’s not good. I hate how news nowadays changes the subject and tries to manipulate information to make you more conscious about things that done really matter.
idk the fact behind this high fat low carbs diet but it do magic, at least for me. i basically cut almost all carbs, including sweet drinks and it works like magic! ofc it‘s not easy to stay away from sugars! and also if you‘re asian like me, good luck on saying goodbye to rice but it is worth to try if you try to lose some weight.
I eat everything and maintain or lose weight. I eat 80 percent healthy foods. I don’t care about fats, I eat mostly complex carbohydrates, eggs and even organ meats. My cholesterol reads like a book. I tell people add more vegetables and you have to move. You don’t have to beat yourself up in the gym. Just take a healthy walk.
Is dark rye bread ok? I know white bread is not good carbs, but i think dark bread is very good.
This topic is more complicated than what’s presented here.
_When glucose is not immediately required for energy, the extra glucose that continually enters the cells is either stored as glycogen or converted into fat. Glucose is preferentially stored as glycogen until the cells have stored as much glycogen as they can—an amount sufficient to supply the energy needs of the body for only 12 to 24 hours.
When the glycogen-storing cells (primarily liver and muscle cells) approach saturation with glycogen, the additional glucose is converted into fat in liver and fat cells and is stored as fat in the fat cells._
Guyton and Hall Textbook of Medical Physiology (12th edition), chapter 67, page 817.
It is certainly possible to convert excessive carbohydrates into fat. It’s an inefficient process, and it would require a massive excess of carbohydrates in addition to already having saturated glycogen storage (by not exercising, for example). However, it is certainly possible. Is it probable? Not likely especially in active, athletic people. Much of the excess carbohydrate would be burned off through thermogenesis, but some amount can indeed be stored as fat.
Also, you say that all whole foods contain carbohydrates. By that definition meat would not be a whole food. Most meat (that isn’t fresh straight from the animal) has no carbs.
Forgot to mention if you’re wondering why people gain weight on a HCLF diet… let’s say you’re eating 3000 calories from 10% fat and it’s 1000 more calories than you are burning. This means that you’re eating at least 100 extra fat calories a day that will be directly stored as fat. You will gain weight from this.
Fat is 9 calories per gram while carb is 4 calories.
Drink olive oil and eat mayo with a spoon all day long youll get fat for sure
Fat and high amounts of carbs is what makes you fat, not the fat alone. “Don’t blame the butter for what the bread did”
Does anyone have a good homeade bread recipe that’s healthy? Thanks.
Sugar makes you fat. Low-fat foods with no sugar usually taste like cardboard, so they add higher amounts of sugar. High fat foods don’t need added sugar because the fat already provides the flavor. this is all due to the USDA suggesting a low-fat diet in 1977 due to a popular bias “scientist” who cherry-picked evidence to favor companies with products that mainly have sugar.
I have been eating 3 times the recommended daily fat intake each day because the foods I usually eat are very greasy ( peanut butter, pork, oil and so on). And I have to say I am fit and pretty healthy.
Rice for breakfast > Rice for lunch > Rice for snacks > Rice for dinner. ASEAN and East Asian this is da way for thousands of years
but no matter how fucked up my diet is, i never get fat.
i only do 2 mins of sport each day, way stronger than others, normally my breakfast and lunch are KFC
LOL the video all fat people could do without seeing
the fat you eat is the fat you wear.
Texan here: McDonald’s is gross, American breakfast is ew, vegetable soup is mmmmmmmmm
I dont know what to eat anymore, u started ovotarian keto, low carb. Because rice makes my stomach big, peanuts make me bloated
As a Filipino. We eat rice three times a day. 3 cups per serving.
Been eating rice for my entire life and still underweight… Feels bad man
so if you want to eat a tasty human go for the obese/diabetic ones
I think me being fat is a good thing after watching this video 10/10
I’ve been eating rice my whole life and I never get fat:( even tho i eat alot im still skinny
This whole video makes me facepalm ♂️ loving all the scientific references that I haven’t heard yet
I LOVE CARBS!!! But for the last year, I’ve been Keto ( I cheat too often though) but seriously, I’m more afraid of carbs than I am of Covid-19!
This is exactly the video I need to share with my family about oil and why I don’t add it to my veggies!! Thanks!
Carbs on their own easily make you gain weight because they usually dont sustain you keep you feeling full. They spike your blood levels. If I ate 1200 calories of protien and fats I feel more full less hungry than If i ate 1200 calories of carbs. On the 1200 carb calories I feel crazy ravishing hunger. Also i read somewhere that ketones are more efficient fuel for the brain and I’ve noticed I have less brain fog when I’m in low carb. Also my body fat percentage has decreased on mostly protien fat low carb diet but I’m eating the same amount of calories: 1200 as I did when I ate mostly carbs. But How come my body fat percentage was higher on the mostly carb filled 1200 diet than it was on the mostly protien and fat diet? Moreover does any one else feel like they get addicted to carbs and sugar when they start eating more of it? I never feel this addiction with protiens or fats.
Furthermore our body can make it’s own glucose from protien once it realizes that it’s on low carb diet. Therefore carbs aren’t essential. we can live without carbs.
Also Liver from chicken beef etc has almost all the vitamins we need and is absorbed even better than any plants or herb. And often times high quality meat grass fed organic will not cause inflamation
Which is not the same for carbs that especially contain gluten.
Jeez, a lot of self-righteous egomaniacs in the comments section today, huh?
You are the Queen of healthy hunnies and food info!!! I absolutly love you, keep sharing that knowledge!
Awesome video lovely and beautiful Emmie!!! ❤ #emmieisthepotatoqueen
Thats why china and Japon are mostly weak and short not enought fats too much rice
If you’re too fat, do KETO with intermittent fasting to drop your body fat % quickly.
After you have lost 70% of the excess weight, begin a Vegan Whole Foods diet.
Avoid sugar, bread, and oils.
Use CRONOMETER.com (free) to track your nutrition. Buy a scale.
Exercise every day.
You will quickly become fit and healthy.
You’re welcome.
Lemme explain how this will go
Me: mum dad i am giving up rice
Mum: choosing which wooden spoon to chef me up with
That was a really good explanation. I feel like I overeat carbs, but it’s probably the odd few fats that I am eating that are causing me not to lose any more weight.
Wowwww for the past 2 months ive been avoiding carbs like the coronavirus thinking thats why I’m fat!!
Emmie PLEASE ADDRESS THIS I have a running argument with a friend who swears that the only reason high carb works for you is because you’re in your 20s, that it all changes once you hit 40 or menopause. True? I know your audience is mostly girls like you but how do you explain the keto craze where they are all losing weight? I am a confirmed vegan so that doesn’t work, but I need to GAIN some weight, any advice other than just ‘eat more’? Hugs!
I didn’t see not ONE Black person on this video… Let me guess there are no Black plant-based doctors
Bunk. Eating too much avocado will make you fat. The name of the game is energy balance. If you overeat you will gain fat.
so what popcorn do you recommend eating? I am eating skinny pop but I find that there are other popcorn brands with more volume for the same calories. Should I make this move??????
If carbs cannot turn to fat, how come some people gain weight on a low-fat vegan diet still and then have to focus on eating more low calorie foods? Love this video! Thank you!!
Glad to see you bring your mad math skills into this: ) ❤️
I wake up looking more cut after eating carbs before bed, actually. They help me sleep better. Thanks for the video. It’s about how your own body responds to nutrition, which is most important.
Love love looooove you honey so much always so happy when you’re back with a new video just wanted to give you and show you the usual stuff: all my love and how much I appreciate you
⭐️❤️ Emmie in my heart ❤️⭐️
thank you for the video!! I am really struggling with what I should and should not eat, and what times I should eat as well. I had an apple and some popcorn for dinner and I felt really bad because of the carbohydrates at night, but this video really helped me understand that what I ate is not bad.
Love you beautiful hope just love seen your beautiful face love literally me when like party hey I’m okay love you love the videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What if you ate some whole grain toast and then had a few nuts after would that fat be stored?? or what if I used homemade unstrained nut milk in my smoothie with fruit?
The thing is, eating lots of fat is the single best way to get fat. So, take your fake news somewhere else.
Chromium controls insulin. So basically fat gain is insulin release without chromium since only natural foods have chromium.
Loved this..listened twice to absorb,or try to, all the info. You are so smart! Wish I knew as much as you do!
When I was 55, I lost 41 pounds on high carb, wfpd lifestyle and have kept it all off for four years. I’m in the best shape of my adult life! Two years ago I quit alcohol too!
Btw we need carbs, we would die with no carbs at all. Balance is the key
3 years later all these claims have been debunked as false. YAY.
The vegan lifestyle is not sustainable, a diet that actually need supplements to work, is not working in the first place, no matter how you turn it.
Also Vegetables have alot of anti nutrients.
As fat dont make you fat, sugar is! Oh that’s the good carbs you all worship.
By the way, carbs comes with its on antidote, its called fibres, dont eat fiber and see what carbs will do with your body.
Also many vegans go sick after years on a vegan diet, that’s because it’s so healthy… And when they start to eat meat again, they gain their skin colour back, get more energy and feel better than they have been doing for years on the vegan diet.
Also fun fact at last, they speak of Okinawa, well here is an article showing of obesity problems already at the year 2006 as they convert to the american shit food that is poisoning the world.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/3342882/Japanese-get-a-taste-for-Western-food-and-fall-victim-to-obesity-and-early-death.html
Yeah real good experts, how about those who actually said carbs is bad for you? Oh you forgot or skipped those.
So biased it almost hilarious.
Jeff! I just would like to say a huge Thanks. I have been watching all your series lately, and it really helps my eating disorder recovery. I think there are so many myths that mislead people to restrict themselves and stressed out..and most of them are totally unnecessary…. Cheers to your own fitness journey and more amazing videos!
The only thing that keto and plant based diet have in common is that they cut out white sugar and white flour.
I did seem to get fat when eating oats and bread. I have a slow metabolism so maybe that’s why.
I eat fat and lost 85 lbs and ate carbs for 20 plus years and was obese go fuck yourselves
I’m sorry no of theses people look great.. if they say it’s the best diet they should look younger.. they don’t
Avoid rice sugar and flour.. What else is there for me to eat coz am vegan and am from Asia
Metabolism also depends on female hormones and how balanced progesterone and estrogen are, hormonal imbalances can lead to metabolic syndrome in women. Extreme circumstances like Insulin resistance will cause fat gain from carbohydrates. You didn’t mentioned it. Vegan high carb wholefoods are healing foods and balance our bodies in the long run.
The people in the US are fat af. I didn’t realize that until I started to visit other countries.
Another one: 4:18 “I eat 900g of carbs per day” that’s 3600 calories and he hasn’t eaten any protein or fat yet….
that guy that only eats raw fruits and veggies looks like E.T
All of them do not look well, anyways see how long they will survive, then we will know if their proposed diet is good
Pure Vegan Propaganda. I have nothing against vegans and I know the vegan diet has it’s benefits. But to claim meat makes us fat over high carb foods is ridicolous. The main reason why people lose weight on keto is because it surpresses hunger. That doesn’t mean you starve yourself, but you can go 4-5 hours without feeling hungry or have cravings. Humans could go their whole life without eating carbs, but we can’t go without fats. Most high carb foods are highly addictive and cause cravings like every 2 hours. We can go without carbs, but not without fats. FACTS
I wish that doctor’s would see it this way. They are always telling me to cut the carbs and, unfortunately, eat meat…boo….
The thing is, low carb works… eating fat and moderate meat and avoiding carbs melts away weight quickly, and some folks may need that for motivation in the beginning. It’s mostly water weight, some fat and plenty of muscle, and the results are temporary; once you “go back to eating what you like” it all comes back with a vengeance. For most folks, the keto diet also leads to high BP and high cholesterol and I’m sorry, but that’s detrimental to health, no matter how you may feel about it
Do keto or low carb if you must, but once you plateau (and you will), before you give up, start adding in fibrous, real foods… back off the meat and fats… add in more fibrous foods (any whole food you like, all of your favorite non-process fresh fruits, whole nuts, legumes and vegetables you like). Research which ones keep you full and eat the hell out of them. Don’t worry about calories as long as you’re eating whole food
The weight will come off and your cholesterol will drop, you’ll feel better, sleep better and your ED will go away (because the arteries will begin to open up and blood flow will be improved). Your BP will probably drop too
You need a healthy diet you can happily follow for the rest of your life, and for a majority of people, that’s not a keto diet. It’s boring, unhealthy, restrictive.
Without addressing insulin spikes and insulin resistancethe hunger generated by plant based diet DOOM YOU TO FAILURE. it’s an old failed model. Asians are now as bad as US not because of rice/ carbs but because of refined sugar and fructose. You lie in your premises! KETO CURES TYPE 2!
I go a couple weeks of low carb and feel great. Then will have a weekend of partying followed by a week of indulging in garbage pasta and I feel absolutely terrible.
Dude, why werent you teaching in my university while i was in med school. WHY? Lovely video!
I think white rice can be an exception on a WFPBD. I would eat white rice before I ate highly processed breads. Is this comment logical or?
i think rather than nutrition information being carb protein and fat it would be more useful nutrition information if the vitamins and minerals each food has was there because getting your vitamins and minerals from food definitely better than supplements.
can you survive a day on zero carbs. Can you survive a week on zero carbs. Are modern plants modified. Are fruits modified. I agree eat whole foods live healthy. Unfortunately the majority eat a SAD diet. Don’t worry about low carb diets these people are a minority and most fast as well. The majority of people eat a Standard American Diet and thats why we have an obesity problem world wide. It is not because of low carb diets
The metrics: 4 grams of sugar is one teaspoon, one serving breakfast cereal (Capt Crunch) 36g sugar is 4 TABLESPOONS OF SUGAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel better about having a bowl of cereal before bed now ^_^
What makes one fat…?
The mind, & how one thinks and feels about any food one eats.
Been there, done it all. As the old cliche goes: mind over matter, or rather, let us synchronize with primal intelligence to produce the effects we’re after, whilst putting down the forks of debate and enjoying real food, in its most natural form, devoid of any labeling, just beautiful, delicious, food.

* How does eating fat help me lose fat
When youíre consuming copious amounts of fat such as bacon and cream and butter, the body realizes that it has an ample supply of fat coming in. That makes the body much more willing to burn off the stubborn fat that it has been clinging on to.
I’m happy to hear that, all the diet I tried I was told to give up my favor fruit (banana) because it has many carbs and sugar. I love bananas
I eat bacon and eggs, lots of meat, lots of cheese, lots of high fat dairy, lots of full fat butter and lost 10 kg and have lowest body fat ever(52 yrs old) body scan 10.8% body fat all my friends in the gym are jealous having a six pack now for the first time in my life, they are sitting in the sauna with their HUGE bellies and working out every day on the treadmill in the gym. I love dr Berg, Dr Fung, Dr Brewer, Dr Ekberg and I hate all these doctors i listened to before like Mc dougall, Klaper and all the others talking nonsens and misleading innocent people like me who stayed fat and insuline resistant on their so called healthy whole food plant based diet(always hungry, high triglycerides, insuline resistant, ) probably on my way like many of my friends working out in the gym but getting a heart attack. NO THANK you PLANT BASED religion people. I hate the fact that my diet is costing so many animals their death, but being healthy as a human on plants seems impossible. FAT and protein are essential, CARBS and fiber NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe it. I’ve been doing this for yrs as a kid & slept good & still skinny. I proly need more carbs
You can eat anything u want because u will still die at the end
Fats don’t make you fat either. 7:10 that is horseshit…..
why do people watch this BS coming out of these Neo FASCIST VEGAN SCUM…because Vast majority of People are Losers who are confused with Over Information @ Internet…….all of these so called EXPERTS are green new new deal proponents
OMG 10:40 “we need carbohydrates” this is a blatant lie. In fact, between Protein, Carbs and Fat, the only one you can completely remove is carbs. I do not suggest it is optimal and adopting a whole food plant-based diet would be an ideal diet but the lies in this video are outrageous and it is causing more harm than good because it makes meat-eaters think all vegans are just blatant liars.
Jeff, taking into consideration that 1g of protein has 4 calories and i’m trying to make a caloric deficit as high as possible, eating 1900 calories a day, if by the time i go to bed i’ve only eaten 1300 calories, can my dinner have 600 700 calories worth of protein, or those calories are going to be bad for my diet?
Sorry for the long question, great channel, great videos, keep it up!
Awesome video this information is very true and I found out for myself, I been a pro soccer player for 12 years and I fast 22 hours every day my meal was a lot of complex carbs and my health and fitness was amazing,I decided one day that my one meal would consist of the keto diet, 6 months later I got kidney stones, my cholesterol was very high and now my liver has damage,I stopped eating fruit and some veggies because some videos said that the carbs aren’t good for you,it was the biggest mistake of my life, never ever again I’ll give up complex carbs again, great video
“enzymes in your saliva immediately start breaking down the food into sugar” what? No
AWSOME VIDEO!!!:( but background music sooooo annoying im sorry it was really awful i really wanted to continue watching the video because you are super interesting and fun to listen to and i lovee learnning new things from your videos really great! But the noise of a constant cling cling cling the whole BEEPING sound i coudlnt stand it and it was really hard to listen to you and being distracted by the cling cling:( maybee something less clingy or high pitch:/
There are TWO culprits: 1.) high carb WITH high fat, and 2.) Add animal protein to #1. That’s it. The solution is just as simple: 1.) high carb WITH low fat, and 2.) don’t add animal protein. This is why both low carb, high fat AND high carb, low fat can both work for fat loss. Neither of those eating regimens is incorporating the 2 culprits. I prefer high carb (75-80% starchy vegetables) and low fat (just the essential PUFAs) because animal fat can be chock full of endotoxins, and animal protein has a whole host of issues like TMAO, AGEs, PAHs, etc.
Rice is responsible for a lot of diabetes in Asia. Starch drives up your blood sugar and keeps it up, and your glucosemeter tells you so.
I’m sorry but this is outright propaganda. Several of theses people are straight up lying.
1:38 Would suck to be the Medical Doctor in 2019, who doesn’t understand how sugar triggers fat storage (insulin hormone function). The dude that didn’t read enough endocrinology to know that only insulin can signal bodys fat storage, and you only get enough insulin in your blood by eating sugar. 07:00 Just another person who didn’t learn enough about how insulin triggers fat storage.
Been on the keto diet for a year and lost 90 pounds and I eat only fats and protein. If I were to eat carbs again I would gain weight. So yes carbs and sugar makes you fat. These people know nothing about nutrition. This channel needs to talk to Dr. Berg
Born in India 1950,,,, follow plant based diet,, Statistical age of death 35 YES 35. The stat’s speak for themselves
I’m not sure all the myths hold up here where if you eat healthy you’ll be fine. You still need to work out and and be mindful of your lifestyle. That said, the idea there are healthy and unhealthy foods is nonsense when you consider all foods can be healthy based on your body or how much of them you eat.
I would think thatmaybe having a huge meal before bed might not be a good idea because u would get alot of energy from it. And then when u want to go to sleep, u would have to much energy still so it would effect your sleeping habits. Thus not getting enough rest and maybe your body would not recover enough or maybe make u more succeptable to eating more the next day, because u didnt have enough sleep.
But maybe thats only for me. I try to stay away from huge meals before i go to sleep, else i wont be able to go to sleep right after the meal.
When I turned 60 I switched from the recommended food guides and reduced my carbs significantly. The change in my health has been incredibly positive, I dropped 35 lbs and my health markers are great. In addition I take no medications, sleep well and feel amazing. I try to eat local, seasonal and organic vegetable, fruits, nuts and seeds. My meat is pastured and organic, poultry and eggs are free range and fish is wild caught. I avoid trans fats, added sugars, wheat and soy.
Clearly anti Vegan or non vegan comments are deleted. What the f does that bald guy mean “fat means storage”…does that mean “petrol in a car is storage”… understand what ketogenic lifestyle means…this video is clearly Pseudoscientific BS! I’m out!
Heat unstable polyunsaturated fatty acids and see what happens. Saturated fatty acids means no double bonds so heat and oxygen cannot be harmful to stable (saturated) fats.
Jeff, as a person with insulin resistance and a terrible mind-muscle connection with most of my upper-body, your channel is life-changing to me. I hope you know how leaps and bounds ahead you are of doctors who wave around their degrees and use insufficient, outdated research to scare their patients into self-torturing diets and ways of life. I’m closely following you and ATHLEAN-X and hopefully I can send both you guys some pictures of my body (and life) transformation some time around June. What you do is important, it changes lives, it brings more self-love and less fear, less self-torture into people with damaged metabolisms and those of us not naturally athletic or muscular. I wish you the best
So i agree with a whole food plant based diet and it’s health benefits, but for real, what is going on with Dr. John McDougall? Did he not supplement with B12? Why does he not look well? I sincerely hope he is ok.
When they started a video first things they should explainthere re bad and good carbs. Otherwise, it is confusing.
I very much believe this argument. Dr Jason Fung ( the Obesity Code) has done a great job going into the details and providing the supporting evidence. For fun, Google ” What caused the obesity epidemic” and see that the government and ” healthy eating authorities” including Harvard are still pushing the discredited theory that everyone’s getting fat because they eat more and move less. And these are the groups that doctor’s, nutritionists, and policy makers get their information and talking points from. Very effed up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MSFmIptZv8 watch this video for more information about sugar.
We’re still sacrificing animals after thousands of years…..
Idc about gaining fats
All I’m worrying about is cholesterol etc
WOW!!! Glad to see what I believe is a real walkin Talkin Pharma Pimp getting so little likes…
to bad it wasn’t below Zero with for bullshot factor
And there we go again. This is a science pushed by koch brothers and the like. They hate the idea that eating plants is good for you so they will go to extreme lengths to prove that eating is bad and eating meat is good. They behave like cavemen and act like them in all aspects. And no paleo diet is not a big slap of meat everyday, paleo diet is 6 hunger and 1 day plenty of food. There were not convenient stores in the Paleozoic era.
Personally I’ve been Vegan 9 years and vegan keto for 1.5 I’ve never felt better since lowering my carb intake to 5 percent.
With that being said each individual will do what they are comfortable with and battles between low carb vegans and high carb vegans isn’t nessisary.
I consume 80 percent fat 25 percent protein, 5 percent carbs
That’s different than no carbs lol
I eat all animal products and select plants, my weight does not move. Randle effect.
Fat makes you fat? I don’t think you can be that ignorant so you must be lying. If you eat HFLC you will lose weight and improve health.
Balanced food? It’s not like they told us that in the 90s…
Oh God, if you cut out the carbs… your body will use the fat for fuel. You only store dietary fat because we use carbs more cheaply for food.
Started keto on 12 sept my weight was 79.9 kg
Today on 27 sept, i lost 3.9 kg now i weight 76kg
I have been eating a high carb diet all my life I am not fat at all butt I do have a high fat% in my body. All doctors tell me to eat a high protein diet and cut carbs.
There is soooooo many wrong ‘facts’ in this video 7:39 “more fat than carbs in pizza, same for french fries”… wow, she is either lying, miseducated or a complete moron.

We really need to start ‘fact-checking’ a little more.
I dont believe this vid. I did McDougal and got fat. Felt great but got fat. Was cooking everyday with whole foods. Lost of rice and sweet potatoes and beans. Even ditching the home made bread and pancakes (flour from buckwheat groats i ground) didnt help.
China is full of Diabetics. they should stop using that comparison. https://www.who.int/china/home/-rate-of-diabetes-in-china-explosive-
grains make you fat.
you wrong dude, fat is the most dense in calories than other stuff you eat out there. i had to left keto diet because i almost got hi triglycerides and almost prediabetic. tha same happened with protein diet. No way ill get to a diet wich put some one at health risk lot quicker that being overweight.
It´s very interesting how people say ” Carbs don´t make you fat, Fat makes you fat” when there are a large number of people who have lost a ton of weight eating HUGE amounts of fat (keto diets for instance). Thus, to say something like this is to defy the concrete world.
Its a simplification of a subject much more complex
Alan Goldhamer, “Foods that fool our brains are what makes us fat”. Sadly, they are also highly addicting.
“You can hold up a bank with a slice of bread” Dr. Garth Davis
I’m a bodybuilder. Whenever I need to bulk up, I eat lots of carbs and when I need to get shredded I cut all carbs out of my diet. When I’m maintaining my weight I balance both of them but avoid the refined foods. I don’t even track calories or macros at all.
Add carbs =weight gain
Remove carbs= weight loss
Intermittent fasting helps a bunch too.
I just watched this video for the fun of it, as no matter what information is being presented, scientific or not, it completely goes against my personal experience. The “science” means nothing if my body doesn’t listen to it, although I wish it did. It’s just a fact for me, that when I eat close to bedtime, I gain weight like crazy. Normally I eat a good size breakfast (what most people eat for dinner), and I’d have lunch, and then at night I just eat a piece of fruit. But when I’d start skipping breakfast, and eat my 2 regular meals as lunch and dinner, with dinner being only about 3 hours before bedtime, I start gaining weight. By the end of the week, I can grab a noticeable chunk of new fat around my midsection. That’s how bad it is for me.
The main thing I’ve learned about these “science” videos? I’m reminded that “science” is fluid. What may be true today can be disproved tomorrow with newer information. I can’t count how many times “science” has gone back and forth between milk being good or bad for you. Same with the cholesterol in eggs.
Also, to add to what Jeff said at the end for people who aren’t big morning eaters. If you train in the morning then just applying a healthy mix of carbs, fats, and proteins (preferably less fats) you should have a greater experience in the gym. Some ppl like to workout on an empty stomach and make their post workout meal epic and that’s all preference. I prefer kick starting my day with a banana, two slices of ancient grain toast with butter and 4 eggs (preference). Then train. Have a healthy mix of macros for my post workout meal and space my smaller meals throughout the day. I eat even as late as 11:30 p.m., but that’s mostly a protein shake with water to make me feel fuller and keep my protein high. Love the vid and everyone should take this all into consideration.
Hey Jeff how would you go about increasing an extremely low bodyfat?
But why does your weight generally spike the day after having a heavy carb dinner? Also, is it true that carbs cause higher water retention leading to a weight gain the next day?
Damn! I was hoping for a whole episode of Emmie in her bikini.
Fat people are just dumb lazy asshole, its dumb not to know your own body and listen yo eat
First Ill say that I do agree in general but I was particularly looking to see if there was any truth to the myth. Im still wondering what happens to the carbs you eat at night after glycogen stores are restored) since even though RMR doesn’t change it is true that the other 50% of the TDEE. I don’t know… I guess I imagine it doesn’t actually make much of a difference specially if there is a net calorie decrease but I still want to know if it makes a difference to eat carbs before a rugby game, before sitting down at an office or before sleep for example.
All the information you provided are useless… the only thing that work is counting calories… if you eat less calories than you burn you will definitely lose weight..its as simple as that
Okay, so this only seems to apply to couch potatoes if I understood the beginning of your video. Basically as long as you’re a generally active person like your supposed to be, and not in a resting state all the time, then your metabolism should be in those other states you mentioned in the day time, thus making eating during those periods, and not before bed, be less fattening… or am I missing something here?
Carbohydrates, cause your body to stop using the fat in your system and stores it. But you need fat for the testosterone for muscle protein synthesis. Does storing fat hinder testosterone secretion?
i fast every 3-4 days & from years of experience I’ve consumed simple carbs (cakes & cookies,) sometimes @ 3 in the morning & ive never gained weight
Im vegan and I’m happy to hear this but if only fat makes me fat why do a ketogenic diet makes weight loss. They should be obese!
There are 3 macros. Two are essential to human life. One is not. That one is CARBOHYDRATES. Don’t buy what the vegan cult is saying!
Very helpful…I eat ice cream before bed it’s good sugar for your muscles
Sumo wrestlers go to sleep on carbs, that’s how they gain weight
Weight loss = energy balance = calories in and calories out.
I love bread and rice
Just want to say a HUGE thank you for this video. So well articulated and explained; extremely comprehensive. It is so refreshing to find information from valid sources on YouTube, especially amongst the wealth of people who give nutrition advice with no credentials!
Also I really appreciate the general message of your channel ♥️
I eat before bed every night, I get off work late and don’t have a chance to eat dinner until then, I am relatively lean so yea this is a myth lol
Just to clarify if anyone can answer but some say that when we sleep, the non exercise activity thermogenesis and general physical activity (walking to class or walking around the house) is not present. And since its not present when we sleep, the carbs eaten will not be used and be stored instead.
I dont think it does but idk how to explain this. Sorry if he did in the video already hahaha couldnt quiet get it
Jeff you are the best!!!
Pls do a video about when its “best suffcinet time to take protein shke/gainer shake
Baloney! Your food takes around 16-24 hours to digest the food with the juices in your intestine. How can you store it right away lol! Pls leave advice to medical doctors and not bros
Sugar makes you fat. Not fat. It’s just the word that gets to people.
Great video Jeff. I like that you can prove the research about the topic, which totally debunks the myths. Keep going man!! I feel good now going to bed with oatmeal and blueberries in my tummy.
How about eating carbohydrates before bed, spiking insulin and, delaying the onset of GH release as we sleep?
I don’t think it bears on your conclusions, but why doesn’t the absence of NEAT and EAT while sleeping lead more of the calories consumed before bed to be stored as fat (even with the RMR being the same)?
Great channel, by the way. You really won me over with your science-minded willingness to revise your conclusions in light of new evidence.
This is such a tough concept to grasp. I guess if you eat a pizza or pasta before bed, you are mostly feeling bloated from the process of digestion itself, but it still feels as if the food will not get broken down as easily than if you took a walk or did some sort of running around after eating a carby meal. I simply cannot see this as a benefit though and don’t think your body will break it down. I guess moderation is key regardless.
Yeah, the benefits will vary from time to time. It’s hard not to lose weight when you cut out an entire macro nutrient from your diet. Over consuming sugars and breads definitely add to the issue. A lot of people can gain weight from keto simply because they are over consuming. Also, gaining muscle helps to reduce fat since muscle requires more energy to sustain. A lot of factors go into losing weight.
I am a fit, 5’11 180lb male trying to stay lean. Is 165g of carbs too much? I get most of my carbs from fruit and sweet potatoes
Low carb advocates have a completely stupid way of thinking that a healthy carb like oatmeal or plain potato with skin will turn you into a 600 lb gluttonous looking diabetic. No American in history had followed a truly healthy unprocessed low-fat plant base diet. Complete ignorance that they still blame the 80s-90s low-fat diet for the obesity epidemic. Even then, there recommendations were not even close to being healthy or low-fat. They pushed margerine and vegetable oil( which has a much higher fat content than butter) over bacon, eggs and butter. Everyone knows that high refine sugar and highly processed flour is not real food and will make any one fat.
Besides going ‘ low fat’ in the 90s, no one can deny these people were engaging in holiday high fat wet dreams and frequently cheating by eating pizza, birthday cakes ECT..on top of their already ultra processed flour, vegetable oil margarine based meals, and downing liquid high fructose corn syrup,( soda,) as there low-fat diet. That’s more likey why obesity increased sharply due the so called ‘ low fat’ era. All dietary fats and meat products are highly caloric dense and has been proven in many lab studies that fat is 95% more likely to get stored as body fat, over both sugar and protein.there is no denying this, especially when you take a gander at all the low carb high fat high meat advocates such as William David, Sally Fallon and several others vs the low-fat plant base advocates like freelee, Dr McDougall, Dr Benard, Dr furhman, durain rider ect.. The solid evidence is all visibly there. Long before the tension of carb controversy happened, my mom grew up in southern California during the 70s. She was around many Asians that had migrated there, and which she also made friends with. Unlike most skinny fat stake and cheese eating Americans during those times, she use to tell me that the Chinese and Japanese people were so stick thin, because of their no fat rice based diet( which she had witnessed). Now there is evidence that the epidemic of diabetes and obesity in Asia, especially in China is increasing. The reason for this is that the average Chinese person is now eating less rice, more vegetable oils and animal products. This is all factual now that China has become the leading global economic power house. More people in China can afford and have access to meat and wet markets.
Growing up I always struggled with my weight, I tried dad diets then I would lose weight and regain it Everytime. One day at the rise and popularity of he low carb keto diet, I became interested. After a year on the low carb diet, I went out with my mother to the park pool one summer. She seen me for the first time in a while mostly uncovered, and she couldn’t believe her eyes. She talked in a verbally unfiltered way that I never heard her talked to me before. She said she could not believe how big my thighs were( which dietary fat gets stored in these areas). She called me fat and said that the size of my thighs and butt scared her. I felt like breaking down and crying and wondering why this so called affective diet had failed me
When I was on the keto diet, I always felt hungry and had thought about all the delicious carbohydrates I could be eating like baked potatoes, bananas, sweet potatoes and steamed rice. I mostly just ate greasy chicken thighs, plain boiled steak, bacon, olive oil soaked lettuce, buttered cauliflower and macadamia nuts or avocados. The diet was completely ridiculous. I feared to even eat an apple thinking it was going to turn me into a tub of lard, since it had a whole days worth of carbs for a keto diet. Not only did I felt ravanously hungry with food cravings, my stomach hurt and digestion was terrible. I had known right away to start changing my diet. One day I stumbled across a reasonable way of eating. The starch solution diet, which is designed to insure maximum weight loss, while eating all the natural healthy and delicious low-fat carbohydrates. So I gave the diet a try, I still was doubtful in my head that I would lose any significant amount of weight, but it really took me by surprise. After a couple of months on the diet, my fat thighs and cellulite quickly disappeared with hardly any exercise. My mom complimented on how good I looked, and she had never thought I would have been this thin my whole life living with her. Five years from now, I still follow a low-fat vegan diet, my weight never fluctuated once ever since then. My digestion is optimal, my energy is out of this world, I’m never as hungry and my Asthma finally cleared up for the first time in decades. I could now run 10 miles a day without any breathing issues, and I look like a model in skinny jeans
Completely wrong… Eat high glycemic carbs before bed each day and see what happens to your physique.
Just reduce the animal products/process food/Sugar in your diet and you will feel much MUCH better!
Hi Jeff.
Did you see my question about the eating best part of my kcal before bed?
Haven’t finished vid, but I thought it was basal metabolic rate BMR? -DPT
Mythbust Monday is my favorite… It should have it’s own channel!
Love these lit review videos SO MUCH. You’re doing science on a visual, popular platform SO WELL.
I tens to eat the majority of my carbs in the evening/morning as I like to train around 4.30-5.00am.Lunches are protein and fats as I find carbs make me lethargic if I am at work.
12:21 by far the most stupid part of the video. Carbs can in fact be turned into fat.
Thanks for this Jeff, often wondered about the impact of carbs at night and now you’ve cleared up another myth. ✌️
Blood sugar doesn’t elevate from eating sugar??? Really Dr. Barnard??? I’m not a doctor and even I know using my glucose meter that eating sugar or any carbs RAISES blood glucose, nice myth buddy! Eating fat or protein doesn’t effect my blood glucose.
I think keeping busy and having constant goals may be a good way to burn calorie
can you make a video on keto, moderate carb and high carb diet focusing on the comparison of these three diet plans
I understand that you have a particular philosophy, but I feel it is such a pity that a most natural, unprocessed, healthy food is included with all the processed cereals, breads and flours….the humble potato!
What about nutrition partitioning at night? Level of insulin or sensitivity to insulin? Are those different and would they have an effect even if metabolic rate is unchanged at night? This video made me very happy because I tend to eat dinner late, but upon further research I have more questions. Tried including some links to other research but they didn’t post so I’ll leave it open.
In other words, is there truly no difference in fat storage and metabolism for the same meal had at 6pm and one had at 10pm, assuming no obesity?
Gave up rice, noodles, and sugar for the second months now. Loose a lot of weight. Feeling energetic. Improved sleeping quality.
So Thomas Delauer is right? If I eat a bowl of rice at 1am ill wake up with abs?
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night completely covered in sweat like I ran a marathon. I have to change the sheets to go back to bed. Is this because my metabolism kicks it into overdrive at night?
Scientists in the Weissmann institute discovered that the same food causes different response in different people. They also made an algorithm to tell what foods are good for you, and what are bad. The research program is ongoing, so you likely need to join to get the algorithm.

Summarization
The belief that you will get more fat if you consume carbs before you sleep is wrong based on the thesises you read in this vidoe. You recommend to focus on eating patten following preferences or your schedule.
Well, avoiding rice is easy for me. And before you reply, I am asian too.
Did I just hear a doctor say that insulin tells your body to store glucose as fat???
Studies show people love hearing good news about their horrible food choices.
You are such a tremendous teacher! Thanks so much for researching and explaining all of this in such an easy to understand manner!
What about hgh inhibition from late night glucose spikes before hitting REM?
This video is disgustingly inaccurate and shows exactly why people who do not understand a topic should not cover it. Weight is exclusively controlled by calories in calories out. The types of food you eat only impact how easy it is to stick to a calorie restricted diet.
Another one 8:20 people who thrive on carbs, “Rice in Asia, corn and beans in South America” they have a lower life expectancy than the average American (who have terrible diets).
They die from the same 2 diseases, cancer and heart disease.

If de novo lipogenesis is so limited where do carbs go if you ingest a lot when your glycogen stores are already full?
I have an ed and i was just starting to eat carbs but now i am terrified to
Sorry, but saying: “science has shown that…” without mentioning the studies is a bit misleading. Futhermore, science has actually shown, that it does not matter to your bodyweight if you eat high-carb or low-carb as long as protein and calories are equated [1]. And third, the “Carbohydrate-insulin model of obesity” that you mention here (without calling it by this name, but you describe exactley the proposed machanism of it) has many times been debunked [2]. I don’t know why people are still bitching over fat, carbs, good, bad,… Just don’t eat to much! Get you calories, get your protein, get your vitamins and minerals and fill up the rest with whatever you like…
oh.. and here are actually studies:

Awesome videos! I love that you and Stephanie always include reliable sources of information:)
Jeff, what do you think of Steven Gundry, MD’s Plant Paradox eating program? Popcorn and beer are off limits with it btw. He is big on restoring gut health and avoiding leaky gut syndrome. Minimize lectin consumption and only eat locally grown vine ripened fruit in the summer months and never throughout the rest of the year to avoid bodyfat gain except going into the winter months. Quite interesting ground breaking info he has discovered.
not true at all what about those that burn calories quick and don’t even gain weight just stay skinny I’m 35 years old and I’ve been skinny since I was a young girl now I’m a mother of 4 kids and still look the same when I was younger I want to get a little weight so the best way is to eat at night like bagels and cream cheese in a cup of milk is nothing wrong with that for those that burn calories for those that don’t is bad..
I do popsicles too, or an egg or a small protein shake with low carb low sugar and high protein.
And the woman doctor opens the door about the SEX thing @ 1:50 so hilarious
Short answer: no it doesn’t. Doesn’t matter when you eat. That’s a myth
Cleary dumb vegan made this video. As showed by Robert Lustig from University of California and his team saturated fat has no effect at all in heart disease. What can be the bad thing is high amounts of iron in red meat can cause damage do some sensitive people but this has nothing to do with saturated fat
Haha they are so wrong i fasted from carbs during the day.i eat fat and protein and eat my carbs at night and i lose weight
Aaaaahh yes I can imagine Bc that was me every night lol 1:08
Actually, it is next to impossible for carbohydrate to become body fat. What happens is, when you eat fat with carbs, the fat gets stored as fat, and the carbs are burned for energy. But don’t eat fat, and you can eat all the carbs you want, and never gain weight. I challenge you to eat as much sweet potato as you can, with nothing else, and TRY to gain weight. You will fail.
You should really checkout Dr. Gregor’s YT channel, to get your info straight. Or his website NutritionFacts.org
also, I agree carbs such as pasta, rice, and processed cereals and even oats do not make me feel very energized, but, rather tired. I’ve gone back and fourth on being vegan and Paleo, those excess carbs make me feel Iike crap
Do you know guys any decent channels in German about health?
I tried keto for two months, my cholesterol went up and I only lost 2kg. Never again.
Dumb question over eating calories and eating bad macro ratios makes you fat its that fucking simple
sugar makes u crave for more sugar wich in turn makes u fat sugar is white poison eat healthy exercise move around drink water thats it so simple change your eating habits to healthy eating habits
This was very helpful. I now know the difference between good and bad carbs
I’m a type 1 diabetic so I’m supposed to eat low carb but I have barely any fat on my body and I don’t want to break down muscle… Any advice?
How much carbs should I eat around workout? Say I’m eating 200 grams per day and trying to gain weight
Interesting video, but I’m sceptic towards the explanation for age spots.
The problem is high fat is always high calorie. Its easy to go overboard with fat and in that regard, it hinders weight loss.
Calories in vs calories out is how you lose weight. If you have too many calories its going to store and you’ll gain weight.
People eating low fat and still struggling is because they are getting calories elsewhere.
The worst of all: sugar
its good not to go to bed hungry as your brain can wake you up disrupting your sleep
If you eat VEGETABLES!!!!!!!!! Even all day long You will NOT get FAT!!!!! Is that easy! DRINK WATER! No sugars! Stop eating every time, and walk to go to the places, no the car! I GUARANTEE in that way no ones can be fat! No insulin = no fat! REMEMBER: all the things you love to eat = sugar = insulin = fat!
So basically nicki minaj pins insulin at the right places 5:05
So you’re saying sleeping with spiked insulin has no correlation to increased fat gained?
Bul suite, how muchos the carbohidratos industry os paying you to lay.
i dont know about this I think it is all down to genetics. And I think there is scientific proof that the skinny people in the world who never gain weight have some different chemical/enzyme/hormone in their body. there is a british documentary show where they took a group of normal weight people and put them in a house together for a month and over fed them everyday. At the end of the month, some people had gained weight, and some gained only a few pounds. There was one asian guy who gained next to nothing he gained something like 4 oz. The other interesting thing was that those who didnt gain that much (the naturally skinny people) had problems eating the rich diet and complained they couldn’t eat any more chocolate or ice cream because it was making them feel sick. I think I could eat 10 gallons of ice cream at once and never feel sick at all.
I mostly eat carbs, but I don’t often feel hungry. I also don’t tend to crave sweets, or really enjoy them. Breads, pastas and starches are my main diet items. I’m not fat, or overweight, but I think my distaste for sweets and pastries likely help in that department as I’m not particularly active either. I just like bread.
Thank you for your amazing knowledge and exceptional delivery!!!
Essentially the only culprit that make you fat is simple sugars (e.g all those sweet stuff) and saturated fats. Complex carb is needed and unsaturated fat is important.
I’ve been fasting over the past three months and have lost 786 lb.
And if you look at shunning and social rejection and isolation, it changes your hormones for the tubby worse.
Yes it is just calories in calories out what you change by changing what you eats is (usually calories in) and always calories out,you can’t destroy or crate energy
The Asian countries have literally lived off of rice for centuries. Meat was a small portion of the meal.
Please do a video on can you build muscle and lose body fat at the same time or if bulking/cutting is more beneficial to overall muscle gain than simply eating at maintenance
Yeah, you’re definitely right about having to put in willpower to make yourself eat more while on the right diet.
I recently went on a low carb/keto diet to help with my Epilepsy. After my first week, I felt no where near as hungry as I usually do. I thought this was awesome, but I wasn’t/am not eating alot of veggies in comparison to my meat/nut intake. I know I need to increase my vegetable intake, but it just seems to keep passing me by (falling asleep, procrastination, laziness, not feeling hungry, etc). I guess that would make my next goal to make myself eat more veggies and fruit?
So how many carbs can we eat a day before we run into problems? Can we eat more if we have more fiber?
People can turn any natural behaviour into a distraction that’s supposed to alleviate their existensial qualms and dissatisfaction with life, and in return they get even more pain and dissatisfaction. Sex and food are the best examples. It’s like life and nature are turning on auto-punishment mode on us for searching for expedient solutions.
Thank you thank you, your greatest insight was from one of your videos in which you said excessive protein breaks down into glucose, this realization hopefully will change the course of my life, as I am a sugar addict, I’ve been suscribed for a while to your channel great vids
The timing may not be so relevant, but the fact that the daily amount of consumed carbs are being reduced must help with weight loss.
I cut my daily intake to eggs, lean steak, beans, and pasta. One day I had pizza. A whole Little Caesars pizza left me unsatiated, where 5 eggs was enough for most of the day.
13:48 What the fuck is this quack Dr. Klaper talking about??? 3 pounds of rice a day is 1361 grams a day! That’s 5581 calories from rice EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY! You would weigh 800 fucking pounds if you ate 3 pounds of rice every day.
FUCKING QUACK.
You make this topic so much clearer than everyone thank you so much
So basically carbs don’t make you fat, they just hinder the burning of fat you already have?
Calories in calories out is all you need to know. It doesn’t matter how much fat or carbs your eating, all that matters is total calories and protein. Jeez when will people quit using low carb as an excuse to gobble down bacon and steak.
I have been on LCIF since January this year and have lost 20kg and feeling better.
But my question is, why does in Japan most people still eat rice but most of them are not obese?
OP is the kind of guy who goes abroad once and never shuts up about it. Yeah dude, we get it, you went to Japan once. Sheesh
Fat, like fiber, slows down the absorption of sugar fro the intestines to the bloodstream.
“Big fattest country” >#1 Houston
My friggin Jaw drop, cuz I live there…. and I’m fat…
And here I am wondering why I’m as thin as a stick despite eating a lot of fat.
I wonder if the profits of Big Pharma also increased dramatically since the 1970’s. Would make sense since politicians have their pockets stuffed with millions by Big Pharma. If we are fat & sick Big Pharma makes trillions.
I wish I had discovered your channel earlier. So well produced, thank you!
So what I’m hearing is if I inject insulin in my butt it’ll get bigger
Carbs is only bad when you soak them far and oils.alone its nothing you will have to eat half kilo of boiled potatoes it will give 430 calories and if you fry same amount of potatoes it will give you 1700 calories.so think before how you eat your carb.
My rule is just not to eat anything that isn’t directly from a crop. So stuff like raw vegetables and rice is alright. Don’t eat pre-made stuff (EG hot pockets).
I live low carb (not keto) and cook everything myself for a month now. I smoke so I don’t taste much regularly, but Yesterday I ate a big Mac and I could taste the salt and disgusting others flavors. I used to like that stuff.
2:47 wtf?! so the food industry and experts knew it all along!?
Been watching your videos for awhile. Sooo I have been trying to figure this out for awhile and all the info about it seems to never talk about when people are working out in the day. Sometimes I don’t end my workout until 7 at night and I try to get in bed before 10 because I work kind of early. It isn’t unusual for me to eat over 100g of carbs just an hour before bed but also just 2 hours after a very intense workout….. All the conflicting info is confusing haha. I have just been meeting my macros and trying to not over think it
Personally I don’t understand hunger (gimme a min to explain). Obviously I have felt hunger but I have never not been able to ignore it.
I can go for a few days without eating and not feel hungry. Or I can hit around lunch time but I am out so can’t eat yet, I feel hungry but know I can’t eat right now so I stop feeling hungry.
I have also never felt hungry to the point of being desperate to eat, even as a young child this has never been an issue for me. Often I find myself eating not because I am hungry but because I know I should eat now.
I have family members however who get hungry all the time. My sister is overweight and when she is hungry she let’s you know it! And she will pester until she can eat. She is also on the autistic spectrum so I have always assumed this is a part of that-and I still think that is true. But I see this trait in other people too. It’s weird.
It’s hard for someone in America to be fit because everything has so much sugar. So don’t blame Mc Donald
It doesn’t matter what you eat. It’s pretty simple energy balance, burn more energy than you consume. With one exception! If you’re insulin resistant, it’s very difficult to lose fat! You want to be fat adapted, once you are, you burn fat!
People seem to be overdoing the fat part of Keto though with food like bacon. Cardiovascular issues are real. Carcinogens are real.
This guys is secretly telling us to go to low carb + intermittent fasting thank you but im on it for 2 months and I’m feeling better than ever
Here are a few tricks to eat carbs in a better way
Eat potatoes cooked then cooled such as potato salad, this makes them break down slower in your body.
Substitute wheat flour for buckwheat flour, instead of pancakes, make ployes
Don’t buy chips, cereal, or wheat crackers
Substitute different mashed root vegetables for potatoes.
I thought i was seeing boobies as i scrolled through the time line 5:06
This stuff is so confusing. How do you figure out how many calories you should get per day to build muscle?
I always need to rewatch some parts because I’m not native. The chapters in your videos help me so much with that. For this video I rewatched the biology of weight gain chapter as well as the chapter why getting fat makes you hungry.
It’s probably because I need to listen to each sentence for at least 3-5 times to fully understand the true meaning. But now I understand everything. Thank you so much.
It’s shocking how Asians love rice and eat it 3 times a day in their daily lives, considering the fact that it has high carbohydrates and sugar( specifically white rice) yet most of them are thin and has a low obesity rate in their population.
I have to have some carbs because veg and meat alone feels so harsh on my stomach.
1900 the ave American ate 18lbs of butter per year. Heart disease rare
2019 the ave American eats 1lb of butter per year. Heart disease common
The real issue is the type of carbs you eat… 2 oreo cookies equal 140 -200 calories. An avg honey due melon equals 48 calories. Which one will fill you up and which one doesn’t?
Does anyone else’s OCD go Cray when they pour the cereal all over the table?
All these experts seem to bring up the Asians and the old days. well you have to remember food may not have been so abundant as it is today and their food choices may have been pretty slim. so they might actually been starving and working off all those calories.
So basically in 1970s american government decided to trick everyone in to eating carbohydrate foods to boost the Businesses of those companies, i am not surprised lmao
Every time I rewatch this, I’m astonished by how effortlessly you explain these concepts and scientific facts, making them interesting and digestible! I’m gonna send this to my parents to help them improve their diet choices. Thank you for these awesome videos!
how about some sources to your claims. Not saying that they are false, but do it right and cite correctly
i was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) 8 years ago and tried all medications prescribed by multiple doctors visited and most would work but I knew I couldn’t live off these medications since they were so expensive and doctors always recommended me to exercise regularly and eat in a caloric deficit and avoid “fatty” foods. Keep in mind I used to exercise 4 times a week and I always made sure I was in a caloric deficit. When I cut off my medication i came across online about the correlation of a low carb diet and balanced hormones since this is the main issue for PCOS. I have been on this diet for almost a year and i am healed from my PCOS
Wow.. iam stunned… The detailed explanation is just terrific
