Poison Oak vs. Poison Ivy
Video taken from the channel: Roper St. Francis Healthcare
A poison oak rash appears where the contact with the oil occurred. However, it can also form on parts of the body not contacted by the plant. It normally starts as itching and mild irritation and.Poison oak rash is an allergic reaction to the leaves or stems of the western poison oak plant (Toxicodendron diversilobum). The plant looks like a leafy shrub.
Poison oak leaves are almost always in groups of three and can vary from large, flat, matte and green, to small, sharp, shiny and reddish. While the color will vary throughout the year, the leaves always come in threes.Poison oak leaves are solid, with a little of the scalloped oak shape. They hang from the stems in groups of three. If you are wondering about poison oak vs. poison ivy, the latter’s leaves also hang in groups of three and cause the same stinging itch on contact.
However, poison ivy’s leaf edges are smooth and slightly pointed, not scalloped.Poison Oak: Like its ivy counterpart, poison oak leaves also cluster in sets of three. The edges of the solid green leaves, while reminiscent of an oak tree, are less dramatic.
Poison oak is most often seen in shrub form, but it can also grow as a vine. Image courtesy of www.poison-ivy.org.These spots look like black lacquer spilled onto the skin. Instead of black spots, some people develop black streaks on their skin.
If you develop black spots or.The leaves of poison oak are shiny and dark green, whereas white and red mulberry trees have hairy, rough leaves that feel like sandpaper to the touch. Unlike poison oak, mulberry plants have polymorphic leaf structures.
One branch may hold leaves that look entirely different from one another.Poison ivy is the only one that always has three leaves, one on each side and one in the center. They’re shiny with smooth or slightly notched edges.
Poison oak looks similar, but the leaves are.Identifying poison ivy, oak, or sumac Both poison ivy and poison oak have three leaflets, while poison sumac more commonly displays leaflets of five, seven, or more that angle upward toward the top of.Winter: It can be very difficult to identify poison oak during winter time because it’s dormant. During this stage, it loses its leaves and looks like bare, erect sticks coming from the ground.
But just because the leaves are no longer present, that does not mean that the rash-inducing oils are absent. The rash in poison oak is like a skin lesion or an elevated bump with reddish color. The bumps or red patches resemble a burn and the bumps are severely itchy. The rash may also ooze and for some time the rash becomes dry and crusty and may become raw and thickened or scaled.
Poison Oak: Poison oak is more common in Western US, and can appear in the Eastern US. Oddly, it is rarely found in the Midwest region. Poison oak usually has three leaf, but sometimes up to 7 per leaf group.
It grows as a shrub or a vine.Identifying Poison Oak Like poison ivy, this plant most often grows leaves in clusters of three, although some varieties display five or seven per cluster. The defining feature is that the leaves have a lobed, wavy appearance (also described as scalloped.Rash from poison ivy.
Many people develop an itchy rash that causes lines or streaks that look like this. Poison ivy, oak and sumac: Overview. Many people get a rash from poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. This rash is caused by an oil found in the plants. This oil is called urushiol (you-ROO-shee-all).Plant Identification.
The old saying “Leaves of three, Let it be!” is a helpful reminder for identifying poison ivy and oak, but not poison sumac which usually has clusters of 7-13 leaves. Even poison ivy and poison oak may have more than three leaves and their form may vary greatly depending upon the exact species encountered, the local environment, and the season.

its an oil so i use rubbing Alcohol along with iodine. my real personal method is to take a blade and cut open every area affected and then i scrub rubbing alcohol into it lol it hurts so bad but it works so good! ALSO WTF IS IT WHEN U GET POISON ON YOUR PRIVATE AREA AND U SCORCH IT WITH REALLY HOT WATER?!?! IT FEELS SOOOOOOO GOOD ITS ALMOST ORGASMIC!
Does itching mean my skin is healing after applying Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment (A steroid) on the Poison Ivy?
i’ve had an organ transplant and am on Immunosuppressants, time to go test if i’m immune to poison ivy
Got poison Ivy rashes on my legs right now, pissing me off..but the worst ever was when I was in grade school and got poison Ivy absorbed into my face and skin via it being burned in a fire. That is THE WORST!!
Never encountered poison ivy while playing in the woods as a kid. Stinging nettle on the other hand…
Wait, does this mean that Urushiol could be used in HIV treatments? By activating the T cells, which don’t mount a defense against the virus until it’s numbers are too great and it’s too late.
Hello nurse, I thought I had the ivy but after seeing the video I don’t think so, for the last week I’ve been getting hives starting at the hands and forearms with an itch and during the day it scatters throughout the body like neck, legs, back of the knees, I’ve taken antihistamines but very little relief I started some prednisone, I’ve only taken it 1 day and I see relief if I continue it for a few more days could this solve the problem. Thanks
To get rid of the itching put a damp washcloth with HOT water (as hot as you can stand it) on it for a minute. This won’t make the poison ivy go away but it will bring serious relief from the itching till it goes away.
I’ve got poison ivy growing in my yard. we’ll be pulling it out soon though i got a couple paint suits with gloves and hoods, plus safety glasses and dust masks for us to wear to hopefully avoid rash (or death!). it’s gonna be a pain in the butt to get it all out, not looking forward to it at all. lol! i’m not sure I’ve ever seen poison oak in the wild before, so thanks for sharing!:)
I cut through a poison ivy vine with a chain saw and got the sawdust on my arms, neck, legs, stomach, and hands. It too over a week to begin showing up. First a patch or two on my stomach. A week later, some on my hands. A week later some appeared on the calves of my legs, then about another week it appeared on top of my shoulders. 8 weeks into treatment with triamcinolone cream, clobetasol proprionate cream, cocoa butter, sulfur salve, vicks salve, etc. I still have some on my shoulders and stomach. I get the best relief from the itch from OTC antihistamines taken religiously, aspirin, and I also had to take Amoxicillin for secondary infection of the lesions. Almost 9 weeks of misery and I am still treating the horrible itch. I also was prescribed Prednisone tablets but found I could not take them. They made my back and kidneys ache. There is no cure and very few products out there that offer only minimal and temporary relief [lidocane lotions] This truly is the plant from Hell.
Mine went crazy and I had to take prednisone twice over 6 weeks then I had a reaction to the prednisone and it enlarged my prostate and I couldn’t go to the bathroom.
Thanks so much for your videos and your so smart. Look forward to seeing more of videos.
Did they have to pick a man with a cracklin effeminate voice? Come on.. speak with authority
I thought T-cells looked like SWAT officers and while I’m at it, aren’t blood cells waifus?
animated and colorful, but not very helpful. I’m looking for a video on removal methods. Like scraping the sores with a knife blade and dowsing the resulting condition with rubbing alcohol or distilled mineral spirits.
I’m one of the lucky people that isn’t allergic to it yet
I know this because there are veins of poison ivy and sumac in my back yard and along our fence and I have never gotten an allergic reaction, I believe it was passed down from my mom, as my dad is so allergic to it that his entire body will break out from one leaf of the stuff touching his leg. My mom incidentally lost her immunity after I was born, so I guess it’s a hormonal thing maybe?
love these identification videos!
I guess the saying
leaves of 3…let it be
2 yrs ago…i was clearing weeds in shorts and tank (no gloves)
My property was covered in poison IVY OAK and SUMAC
thankfully…i am not allergic and now I warn everyone! hahaa
I’ve had some brutal poison ivy in my life but this time is the worst. I can’t even sleep cause I wake up scratching and my arms have swelled up. I’m going to come back to this video in 2 weeks when I’m healed to remind myself of my past suffering. Future me, never touch it again. Love you.
im highly allergic to poison ivy, i have to go on steroids every time i get it
When I was little I got it inside of my eye and I looked like quasimodo all summer:(
I’m one of the lucky people immune to poison ivy. Really lucky since the camp I went to as a kid was covered in it.
I always joke that I have so few allergies, I actually have negative ones, since I don’t even react to normal stuff like Poison Ivy.
I seem to have no response to poison ivy but poison oak gets me good. Sumac doesn’t affect me like the other two but it’s like a burning sensation that goes away after I take a shower. I’m confused.
Great remedy story:
I’ve only gotten a poison ivy breakout once in my life at a summer camp. They gave me calamine lotion and some other junk. I had rashes head to toe. I was young and embarrassed so I called mom to come get me. She couldn’t come until the next day. All the kids went in a trail hike and the counselors let me hide in my room all that day. I was miserable, crying, and sooooo itchy! But during the hike, the cook from the mess hall told the counselor to let me jump in the pool while the others were out. The counselor did just that. She took me to the pool, alone and let me have the whole pool to myself for about an hour. When I got out almost all of the rashes and redness was gone except where I scratched excessively. I was stumped. So was the young counselor. She took me back to the mess hall and asked the cook if he know that would happen. He said, “of course, didn’t you?” Lol that poor lady has been dealing with my whimpering all day. She got every remedy and bit of advice that she could muster up and all the had to do was throw me in the pool! We called my mom back that evening and told her I was better and stayed there. Apparently chlorine is a fast way to get rid of it.
—the next day at camp they let us do wood burning projects and passed out templates and nice wooden boards. I didn’t care for the template options and made my very own Ouija board. Apparently they weren’t as impressed as I was since it was a southern Christian camp. No one told me!
I also flipped over our canoe, intentionally, right after the counselors instructed us how to prevent them from being tipped over. Pfft. At least I was listening! That’s more than I could say for all the those sheeple kids that were busy trying to whack fish that weren’t there while the counselors talked safety. They should’ve appreciated my abstract reasoning skills, my ability to reverse engineer sentences, and of course, showing initiative. Those were exemplary leadership skills in the making! I knew I was predestined for a leadership role, the moment I plunged into that icy river and two other girls followed immediately after without the slightest hesitation… as the canoe toppled over us, trapping us within.
Eat a tiny piece of poison ivy everyday for 2 weeks. Become immune.
Very helpful video. I haven’t came across any poison oak in my area. We have poison ivy everywhere. Your video is much better than an illustration in a book. I’m trying to show my kids what to watch out for and your video was perfect. Thanks!
Hell yea im the 10% to 15% that dont get the itch and I am always in and around posion ivy never once had the rash or itch my whole life
thank you. Just got poison ivy, first time in 20 yrs. Same area. same bush. For some reason, got it this year. thanks for this, so i dont get oak, as my oak tree has a vine going up it, googled images, and its poison ivy going up the oak! oye vaye! but, now i know: its real!
Good vid but I’m not going to lie. The dubstep nature video combo kind of killed it for me. it’s just too out of place.
Willamette Valley Cascade Mountain range, living on acreage along the Santiam Riverfront. Within the last 5 years the poison plant has taken over, it is virtually in every square yard of foliage, camo’d, choking out trees etc. How to eliminate large areas of this?
Great video the best one I have seen yet I love the side-by-side pictures of how it can and can’t grow. I would love to see more on sumac and Ivy
Thank you for the tips. In addition to the leaves of 3 and oak like leaf is a poison oak leaf also asymmetrical
Like poison ivy?
Where are people finding poison ivy? Never seen it in my life
Nobody: What does the fox say, back in the day: 4:09
Ah yes, I will enjoy remembering 30 seconds of this video when poison ivy comes up in conversation 3 months from now
I had poison oak in my blood stream and had to get a steroid shot. Not fun at all! Imagine itching inside and not being able to scratch it.
I can’t go into the woods anymore. The last time I contacted urushiol was under a commercial trailer I was inspecting. Some vegetation was stuck to an air spring. I now am permanently scarred on my face looking like an acid attack victim. The area kept itching for a whole year long after the rash and scabs had healed. Either they find a cure for this allergic reaction, or erradicate all plants containing it from the u.s. Until that day I’ll stay on the wide trails.
. I don’t get why some exposure to things increase allergic response while other exposures reduce. Allergy shots are just gradual ramped up exposure to the allergen to get the body use to it. Its believed early exposure to peanuts helps prevent peanut allergies.
Also, how come it seems different allergens produce different symptoms, if they are all allergic responses.
When my mom was young she went hiking on the coast and found a family from the east coast. They had Poison oak in their fire, had padded their bedding with it and were using sticks from poison oak to cook the dinner they were halfway through eating. Luckily they got to the hospital and were okay but it could have been really bad had they not. Good thing to point out for people.
I have a question. Does poison oak usually have yellow bubbles in the rash? I recently went camping, and I think I might have ran into some poison oak, because I saw those leaves that look like they had a red on the top. They were all around the campsite. And now I have rashes and they have yellow bubbles. The reason why I know this is probably poison oak, is because all of the symptoms you were talking about in this video are true to me, and because I slept in a shelter for one night. We had to make the shelters out of resources around. Not fun.
Great info, great doodling! But please, please please leave out the music… truly ruins the video.
I think I ran into some poison oak a couple days ago and I now have a rash. Well, really several rashes
Pretty sure I’m immune. I’ve had two instances of people getting hit hard and I got nothing.
Cool quik vid. Luckily I’m not affected by it. However it isn’t fun stuff.
my dad went camping with the boy scouts, and he asked them to collect wood for their fire. they brought back a lot, he stripped it and they had a nice fire. when he went to bed, he used his fleece jacket he was wearing as a pillow. obviously, they had brought back poison oak. they all woke up COVERED in rashes. his jacket was saturated with the smoke from the fire, and one half of his face was SWOLLEN like crazy. he said it was hell. it took most of them ages to fully heal from it lol
“If you run through this stuff it’s going to ruin your day” haha sooo true
my immune system is a lot of things, over eager aint one of em.
Great video! Poison Oak and Poison Ivy are a little different looking, but both are identified by the “leaves of three”. They both cause the same nasty rash which is an allergic reaction to urushiol oil that occurs naturally on these plants. Where you are in the country will determine which one you run into (we are lucky enough to have both in the southeast). The one I have a harder time identifying is Poison Sumac which looks completely different but produces the same urushiol oil and causes the same damn rash.
It is never a good idea to cut down with chainsaw…Prepper John
I grew up playing in poison ivy. I once chopped up a bunch of it in backyard with my mom as a kid. She got a rash, I didn’t.
I didnt undersatand, i speak less english and he speak fast and scramble.
I never got hit by poison Ivy, Maybe i’m immune. Still always watching out for it and never touching.
The tree that grows cashew nuts is related to the urushiol-containing plants. The cashe nut itself is enclosed in an outer covering not really a “nut shell” that contains an oil which is very high in urushiol. That’s why you can only buy processed cashes, not “cashews in their shells” like peanuts. The oil from cashews can be used to create industrial resins or paints. And the “cashew apple” fruit the nut grows from is sweet, and can be made into various desserts, including some very tasty preserves, and also as a base for the alcoholic beverage cachaça. I just ate diced chicken stir-fried with cashews for dinner
The left to right growing pattern was a good tip.
Regardless, dude, find a new train. You’re screwed if you fall or trip lmao
Thanks for the video. I can’t find “Clearlac” on any google search and the closest thing “Clearlax” is an oral treatment for constipation. Can you share a link or more info about this product?
yes they are innocent, because they dont exist. At least not in my part of the world 😉
Wear long pants when out in the Bush and the problem is solved
Why don’t you figure out how vaping works to save millions from smoking. Isn’t it the biggest avoidable killer in the world? Get on it!
Another facts… you cannot catch it in the air unless its being burnt. Also you cannot catch it from someone who has it, after they wash the area. The reaction you get is just a reaction, you can’t spread it by itching if there is no more oil on you.
I used to catch it often. One day I learned what it looked like… I really wanted to see if the person actually knew it aas for sure… so I grabbed a leaf, wadded it up & rubbed it hard on my hand.. the next day or the day after I had a small rash exactly where I rubbed it. It was small like 1½in long but it was raised about a ¼in off of my hand.. I washed my hand with bar soap, then scratched the blisters off, washed it again, rubbed it with rubbing alcohol then put calamine lotion on it.. it was gone in 2days.. ever since then I get very mild symptoms. I walk through it because I basically have no choice when I’m out in some woods. But my legs will kind of itch but not produce any blisters. & its gone in a couple days.. even if I don’t wash up the day of contact.
Aww I was hoping you’d mention how urushiol is used to make lacquer and when the name urushiol comes from
I suffered terribly as a child far too many times with poison oak. I have had poison oak head to toe probably a dozen times, wake up with eyes swollen shut, 3-4 weeks at a time, total misery, and another 20-30 times in lesser amounts. No matter how carefully I wash my hands, arms, face, before taking off my clothes, I always get it on my genitalia. Never gotten it from objects later. I have even gotten it when I stays in the car the whole time. I tried the immunization drops, got it from that, guess where. Later tried the immunization drops diluted ten time, may have worked.
The incessant itching, swelling, blistering, etc. is cause by the bodies allergic reaction to the urushiol oil from the poison oak, ivy, or sumac
I have tried just about everything. My experience with Calamine is that it is totally worthless. Alcohol is somewhat effective in removing the urushiol oil from the skin. There are a couple new products available at drug stores that claim to effectively remove the urushiol oil which I have not tried.
Today, if I start itching after being exposed, I immediately take 3-4 baths in a row with Fels-naptha or Castile soap. These soaps tend to remove all the oils out of your skin and stops the itching. If I start itching again, I take a couple more baths. This dries the skin out, somewhat like a mild sunburn. The temporary mild dried skin feeling is far better than the incessant itching any day. With this procedure, the poison oak is totally gone in 24-36 hrs.
Terrific video. I just received a dose of poison ivy from clearing a section of my garden. Watch using hot water over the affected area because it will open the pores and spread the liquid and junk from the wounds into the open pores. Best to use cold or luke-warm water.
I stopped getting large amounts of poison oak the more i got it and played out in the woods
Never had poison ivy I live in the woods, I can see some poison ivy out my window right now. I’m not going to rub it on my eye balls, but so far so good. Knock on several wood species.
I used to be alergic so bad that I had to get cortisone shots each summer. Doctors told me I had the worse case they had ever seen.
Then i took oral ivy. It worked! I made all my kids do the daily regimen. Now they’re imune too.
Imagine, a homeopathic medicine that works! And it’s about $15.
I have tried ALL other “remedies”. Oral Ivy is the ONE that works.
Video with no images of the plants in question? Did I miss something. Hold on.
as a kid in the santa monica mountains very few of the people I knew had reactions but those that did really got it bad. as we got older we would often challenge each other to eat poison oak with no reaction at all. it is said it can help provide a build up of resistance to leaves of three. I could never have the fear of having a good outdoor romp because of it but I have know a good few who have to think that way. the ooze is gross.
Lots of credit to the CDC for the Mr T reference and the funky music. I must admit, I’m a sucker for these type of animations, like ASAP Science
Since we are talking about terrible plant I wanna name one, “Nettle”, in my home my grandmother used it as punishment
My oldest son actually did the roll around show off routine. You can guess what has happened since.
Poor poison ivy??!! I hate that little POS right now….it’s got me good…..really good. My eyelid is swollen and rash up and down my arms.
We’ll eventually find a way to conquer all allergies, so this is good news.
I served my mother a poison ivy salad I handpicked when I was 3 or 4. I really don’t react to it. I also pulled up some vines one fall until my mom pointed it out it was poison ivy. I did end up with some mild itchy arms that went away by the next day but I think that was because of little scratches from doing so much yard work.
My brother: practically rolling in poison ivy, no reaction
Me ten feet away: rashes everywhere
Also, lawnmowers are my enemy and poison ivy rash behind the ears is really annoying.
I’m highly allergic to it. It’s not a week and a half of itching its maybe 2 months in the hospital for me. It can all burn imo
Another great vid Chris! Here in the Upper Midwest we have P Ivy, Oak & Sumac. I’m highly sensitized to the Ivy to the point I have a standing order for Prednisone Rx with the primary care. It’s that awful for like 30 days without treatment. Anyway, the similarities between the Ivy & Oak are interesting: leaves of 3; the red leaf coloration esp with Ivy come fall when the nites cool down; plus the Ivy leaves develop sort of a blistering. But like others have said, avoidance is best, for those sensitized to the Urushiol, very unpleasant.
Gotta admit. Loving the CDC’s choice of disco funk fusion for background music.
A super effective antidote to poison ivy reaction is the sap from the Jewelweed or Touch Me Not plant. It is quite amazing how effective this is at preventing any reaction, if applied at the time of exposure or at alleviating the blisters and itching that are experienced after unknown exposure. https://www.gardensall.com/jewelweed/
Actually, you must contract the disease for the immune system to have poison oak non-severe (in future occasions)
Let’s say a dog got into poison ivy. Even if it doesn’t bother THE DOG, if it still touches damaged poison ivy, how long does it take for all that poison ivy oil to be 100% gone?
I just wanted to listen to “poison ivy grows” by the scary jokes, I didn’t want a science lesson
When I was a kid back in the ‘50’s the first time I ran headlong into poison oak I was itching and scratching for a long time. But my mother got some goats, that ate the plants and I drank their milk, and before long I became immune to the poison, and I could runaround in the plants and never had a problem with them again!
So my suggestion is, if you have poison oak or ivy on your property, get a few goats, drink their milk and get immunity from the plants!
The goats eat the plants and digest them, you drink the milk and get some of the toxins from them into your system, just enough for your system to fight the toxins and you will become immune to them!
Worked for my whole family and my son and his family!
Mother Nature has a way of protecting us if we let her!
Nah..I can roll around in that stuff..used to get it as a kid but then one day just stopped..haha when hunting I’m always the brush hog because of it
I currently am stuck at home with a terrible reaction to poison oak. I hate this f-Ing plant!
A great way to ensure you come into contact with urushiol is to weed whack some poision ivy, it’s a great time 10/10.
How is it loud even with the volume almost off? Thanks sound editor
I will never be sad that I have no reaction to any of these plants.
i dont get the redness from poison ivy, my brother and his friend once rubbed poison ivy all over me but instead their hands got itchy:0
Poor Poison Ivy get it in eyes your then tell me how poor it is
it does not ruin your day. it ruins the next 10-14 days as it blisters and oozes. there is something you can do to help prevent this. our search and rescue members do this every year. you can drink the fruit pectin CRRTO. it is the pectin you use to make jams and jellies. mix the package with water and drink it. there is also a liquid version too. just take a couple table spoons of it. tastes horrible but it helps your immune system with the skin rash caused by poison oak. it lasts for about 6 months. there are about 7 of us who do this twice a year. not sure how it works but it does help lesson the blisters on the skin. best to avoid it completely but if you can’t… just my 2¢.
I am VERY sensitive to poison ivy, etc. I swell up like a balloon. My whole body is affected eventually.
(edit) When I was a kid I had it so bad my eyes were glued shut, my face was so swollen.
chew up one leaf a couple times a year. For years I never get anymore.
I’ve been land surveying in the south for almost 20 years, no problems. The rest of the crew cannot look at for fear of exposure.
I’m super alirgic to posin if I touch it I will be half dead in a hospital. I have an insane reaction from it that has almost killed me more then once
Great to see the Orushiol molecule actually spells “oh oh”..

“Most people don’t react to urushiol the first time they’re exposed”
I must be supremely unlucky then. The first time I ever touched an (I assume) sumac plant, nearly my whole left arm broke out just from getting a small brush on it. Didn’t realize what it was until the next day. Had a severe migraine from it, then another weaker one two days later. The rash took almost three weeks to fully go away and hurt if it was touched. I needed to wrap my entire arm in bandages soaked in calamine lotion to even begin to cope with it. Never in my life had I been so happy to have a blister break on its own.
wait there is some element R on the diagram for urushiol… but there is no element with the symbol R…
Luckily we don’t have these in Europe. We have nettles with needles of calcium silicate that break off on contact and inject formic acid, histamine and acetylcholine into the skin. I was pushed into a field of those as a 10 year old. It was highly unpleasent.
Just us and.. hamsters?!
Oh hamsters, our long lost brethren! <3
Shaky Cam!
Poison oak ruined my Northern California childhood summers. I got it, and got it bad. I looked like something out of a horror film. Even when I could avoid it, my less sensitive siblings and our pets would bring it back with them and spread the invisible oil everywhere. What was I gonna do, live in a bubble? The stuff is EVERYWHERE for hundreds of miles up and down the coast, on every trail, and from ocean to the hills.
THAT is why I as an adult I do my hiking at 5000 ft. and above. I hate poison oak.
im one of those people that poison oak/ivy doesn’t affect. my siblings always got stung but never me. (we lived in the woods and hiked everyday that wasnt raining.)
Lol you’re getting a stupid comment from me but it’s true there are a lot of hypochondriacs out there in the world that believes everything makes them sick so just yeah….
i had a friend that wiped with poison ivy, he said it was the worst pain hes ever experienced a long period of time.
i once too poison ivy leaves, blended them, and rubbed the blended stuff on toilet paper in public restrooms, no idea if it worked out or not but the thought of it working makes me laugh like a mixture of Jafar from Aladin and agent smith from the matirx and then i sleep like a baby.
Okay thank you I’ve got some of that stuff growing on a cedar tree. Now can I use rubber gloves to get rid of it,, what kind of weed killer do I need to use without hurting the cedar tree,, this stuff is growing on all six trees,, LOL,,
My stupid ass immune system when introduced to some antibiotics, all kinda of animal hair, most pollen, mangos: Frantic screaming and swelling
My immune system when introduced to poison ivy: lol histamine machine broke
I only ever get it on my knees from mushroom hunting doesnt even get itchy because of were its at just forms a giant scab and peels off in a few days.
I have never had a reaction to any of them, but I still avoid them whenever possible amd wear PPE whenever I have to clear any to keep it away from my kids. Better safe than sorry.
You just helped me identify some Poison Oak that’s suddenly growing rampant on my local trail! thanks Chris
I’d have been interested in learning about how urushiol protects poison ivy from microbes? I mean, if it’s not meant to repel us, what is it meant to repel? And how do these plants fit into the larger ecosystem? Are they just your average food plant to most animals?
So, someone with AIDS and non-existant T cells would not react to poison ivy?
Last I tested it (15 years ago) I was immune to Poison Ivy. Hiked my entire boy scout troop through a patch and I was the only one that didn’t itch for the next 2 weeks lol
Poison sumac rubbed against my leg and got black tar on me and then I got chicken pox same time lol
I’ve never had poison ivy. I didn’t know some people were immune. I have no allergies at all. Guess I’m immune. Gratitude ^.^
WRONG!
The leaves of poison ivy, oak, sumac… secrete urushiol oils through their stomata… so yes, you can come in contact without the plant being damaged.
Urushiol is produced by the plant for defense against predators… primarily insects, which is why you don’t see common insect herbivores like, grasshoppers, aphids, scales, mites, & nearly all caterpillars of the Lepidopetra Order feeding on the plant.
My grand father had a friend that burned a pile of poison oak and the vapers filled his lungs and he did die from it.
Okay thank you for the identification I have some of this crap growing on my cedar trees,, I have six cedar trees and it is taking all six of them,,what kind of weed killer can I use without hurting my trees can I use rubber gloves to rip the vines down,, I do not want this crap on the trees,, we might be losing one of these trees anyways,, what can I use for some sort of pesticide,, we might have to cut down that tree to keep the other trees from getting it,, great video
I got poison ivy on my face once, and I don’t care what you say, nothing is ever gonna change my mind that Poison Ivy is terrible horrible plant that should burn. But no you can’t even burn poison ivy because then it’ll get into your lungs. This is literally one of the most toxic plants ever and nothing will ever change my mind about that
The key to getting more subs is to be less annoying about asking, not more annoying…
