Sorry, but you lost me at Hellman’s mayonnaise which is GMO soybean oil and McDonalds Burger patties which have MSG. I make my own mayo -no soybean oil using extra-light tasting olive oil. Read your labels. Do keto, but, don’t forget HEALTH! Losing weight isn’t the only thing. These chemicals get stored in fat because the liver can’t break them down. Why would you want to add fat to your bum while your losing fat off your bum? Don’t put anymore on your bum. If your liver can’t break it down it surrounds it in fat and puts it right in your belly. Anybody just learning keto go to Dr. Berg & Dr. Bergman websites. You have to sift what this guy is saying. Didn’t you say no sugar? Alcohol turns to sugars and is burnt in the body as SUGAR. There is a documentary if you can find it called “The Men Who Made Us Fat”. Very interesting how fast food companies and snack food companies hired psychologists to see what makes a person eat more which led to the value meal a McDonald s and Burger King, adding more fat and salt and sugar to the foods as science proved these were addicting. These companies knows how this is damaging people’s health and straining our health care system esp here in Canada, but money rules. Japan has made it against the law to be overweight and have implemented treatment plans for those affected.

I dont see why you would need to avoid healthy seasonings. Fresh herbs is so good for the body. Flat leaf parsley, basil etc., not only make a meal taste delicious but I think helps the body.
Even more important, adding fresh garlic and onion is so healthy for the body. Eating them as raw as possible is best.
Chopping raw garlic very fine and adding it to my meals gives off great flavor and has wonderful properties in them.
Garlic is an anti everything. Anti inflammatory, anti fungal, anti viral and anti bacterial. It’s natural, very inexpensive and easy to get!!

Hey Nikole, i really love this kind of videos, just seeing people talking about their food faves i so entertaining but I have to say one thing, studying food plants engineering i wanted to say that yes refrigerated milk is better on The nutritional side but not because the non-refrigerated one has fillers and preservatives. The nutritional quality and the shelf-life only depend on the heat treatment the product gets. So the refrigerated milk recieves a milder treatment so that the vitamins and proteins don’t deteriorate as much as in the non-refrigerated kind of milk that is treated UHT. As a consequence of the milder treatment, the refrigerated milk is more sensible to microorganisms and that’s why you keep it in the fridge.

I think it’s more productive to use somatic approaches to trauma work EMDR, EFT, somatic experiencing, TRE, breath, body, mind, mindfulness, yoga for trauma etc I was in therapy for 12 years with someone who didn’t even tell me about my nervous system and I was still easily triggered. It wasn’t until I took a breath body mind workshop with 2 psychiatrists that I started feeling healed. Now I use things like coherent breathing and Chi Gong and it works better than going around and around about the trauma

Love your video!! But I have so many questions, I need more details!! I have been struggling with adrenal fatigue and autoimmunity for many years and I did get much better with diet. It was the one thing that really made a difference. But I had a major crash after surgery. I guess it was just too much stress on the body.
Before the surgery I was doing okay with intermittent fasting on a paleo autoimmune diet. But now I’m just too tired to prepare my meals so I’ve been eating a lot of bananas and apples (better than nothing). I know I’m doing things wrong but I just don’t know how to fix them. I’m very underweight and I’m afraid to stop eating bananas cause I’ll loose even more weight. Please help!

Blueberries have a lower GI than brown rice. Why did you cut them out?
Oats and Fruit is not a helpful breakfast for one who’s trying to lose weight, especially one who is a food addict. Oats and Fruit is basically cake, and that perpetuates your cravings for sweets through out the day. As for Tofu, Tofu is more fat than protein. Soy is over 52% fat. The fat you eat is the fat you wear.

I looked at one of the keto guided tour companies and it was $900 the first month before buying any food and $400 each month for the first year, dropping to a mere $200 a month thereafter. We already pay $600 a month for 2 of us to have insurance. I’m guessing insurance won’t help on those guided keto companies at all. It simply prices out all but the wealthy. And I’m sure we all sleep well…

to get into ketosis i ate 90 eggs in 3 days with butter and salt, i would have 15 scrambled eggs in morning and 15 fried ones later on, does anyone know the carb count the total carb count for 30 medium sized eggs, cause i take multivitamin everyday to called beyond tangy tangerine, and beyond osteo fx for bone health combined per day the carb count from these supplements are 16.5 grams, which leaves me only about 34 grams of carbs to get from food on a daily basis, today i had 23 eggs 100grams mushrooms and a 330gram t bone steak, so i’m pretty sure i’m still under 50 grams of carbs per day

Oatmeal has a calming effect, it should be consumed at night, organic free range eggs cooked on low heat sunny side up in grass fed butter/ slices of avocado on the side works for me.

Substitution is how I did it, with me allowing myself to buy fancy fruits and as much fancy fruit as I wanted. Things like a basket of raspberries, cherries, imported stone fruit, etc. It worked well and wasn’t really prohibitively expensive!
This was so special to me! I’ve seen her once before and knew she was on the pulse of the problem for so many. This is precisely why I’m retreating to TNHC in October. I’ve been suffering with sugar/food addictions for over 25 years. Since my senior year of high school and I just turned 45! What a blessing these interviews are. And Santa Rosa. That’s just step #1. I know I’ll have a lot of work to do (past trauma wise) upon returning home. Dr Lisle says not to kid yourself. Once one stops eating sweets, the teriyaki beef and chicken will taste like a dessert. Watch out for barbeque sauce, too! Many are about 50% sugar!
Bacon almost always has some sugar, and ham, too. Sugar curing became the big thing, after salt was (needlessly) demonized. Salt cured hams were wonderful. They were soaked overnight to remove excess salt, and the water was changed at least twice. We can read the label and avoid sugar. Watch out for sugar by other names: maltodextrose, etc.

I use a banana for sweetening most recipes. I do not want to devour the entire platter or pitcher. Once a year or so I use dates. No weight gain or binging. Completely satisfied.

Yeah, you don’t have to track macros and nutrients… but remember this guy comes from an industry where data is king. If you want to become free, track and learn what effects changes in diet, macros, and calories have on you. He is preaching simplicity because most people need that to get started. And it is simple. But tracking with the Cronometer app is simple and nutrition is important. Also, if you want increased results, fast. If you want more benefits, excercise, not on a treadmill, but resistance training (weights, bands etc.)

Is it normal to feel a come down or cloudiness in the brain when you have adrenal fatigue? On most days I feel fine but when I get stressed out I begin to feel like something is wrong with my mind.. is that normal?
I love how highly trained, intelligent, certified doctors who have completed research and residency are discredited as soon as they go against the medical consensus which is proven to not work, despite the fact they begin themselves to get real results that change people’s lives.

For me, luckily nuts do not effect me on LCHF…I actually enjoy them with a piece of provolone cheese as a snack (I do measure them though…not unlimited).
My breakfast diet is similar to most of these. Oats, berries and fresh fruit. The key thing I’m after are the microflora inherently riding with this uncooked food. It’s funny but not one person in this video mentioned this. I believe this is the key ingredient.

My husband is Indian and he cooks all of our meals, so he uses many spices, like turmeric, ginger, etc. Do you know if Indian spices are ok for healing adrenal fatigue. Also, I’m vegan for heart health reasons. I follow Dr. Caldwell Essylstens prevent and reverse heart disease, which is NO ANIMAL FOOD, no dairy, no eggs, no fats like avocado. Funny how you all take advice from “doctors” who not one of which look healthy. humans are not herbivores, we are not even omnivores. We are carnivores by nature. The carnivore diet/keto has completely changed my life for the better, while to be vegan we must eat manmade heavily processed foods and oils which not even found in nature as well as supplements which if you have to supplement then by definition your diet is lacking nutrients. Wake up people they are pushing this diet not for the animals it is for profit and mind control!
I am confused about the calories, in one slide it says to limit fats because of the calories and on another one with the mayo, butter, eggs, bacon, etc. it says no restriction… if I can’t eat dairy, chocolate (85% cocoa), tahini, etc. then would eat lots of pork rinds as a treat with contains so much fat and calories…
This Dr. is so wrong about artificial sweeteners. They are so bad for you. Stevia is an herb and studies show good gut bacteria like stevia. Yes to stevia.
I get sunken eyes big time with a crash. They actually sink way back in the socket. And I get dehydrated. I’ve had a major set back with AF after a naturopath gave me strong stimulating adaptogens for several months. This info makes sense to me.

Literally only one thing I can nitpick in this entire talk, which is the idea that fasting causes enough lean muscle loss to be worried about it relative to the metabolic benefits. Only restricted calorie diets cause a significant amount of loss of muscle mass. This has been studied. Fasting has been shown to be highly muscle-sparing and even conducive to muscle growth due to the release of IGF1 and other mechanisms that protect the lean mass while promoting fat oxidation. I’m still not clear on exactly where the tipping point is, but fasting and calorie restricted dieting are definitely not the same thing.
A person can live a long healthy life without eating any animal products. A person can life a long healthy life with eating some animal products. I doubt that very many people can live long, healthy lives if they eat very little else but sweets, processed meats and potato chips… but I am sure a few can.
I also do overnight oats with oatmilk, dried fruit, and the big three seeds: ground flax, chia, and hemp hearts. I have started adding those three to my apple-banana-kale smoothies, too

It is dangerous giving health information, especially for compromised people. True there’s a disclaimer, but this type of diet goes against the leading edge health advice and actual best science we now have. This says we are natural herbivores and despite this being obvious, there’s a mountain of evidence to show this. Of course it’s not popular with the majority still, but anywhere giving advice to take products from animals is wrong on for a humans body, and as science will eventually show, also their soul or spirit, which is where we also gain our best health from. It’s all connected, we are all connected, and a loving symbiotic approach is the only way to real health.

Hello Ladies… this is a great vid on Adrenal Insufficiency. One important tip I learned from my TMC Dr was that I had to stop all coffee, black tea and green tea, probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done lol. But sure enough when I stop all caffeine stimulants within 2 to 3 months I am starting to feel better, and when I start coffee and tea again the fatigue, shaking/trembling, faintness and dizziness come back full strength within 3 months… so sad I love coffee… my bitter and invigorating friend lol.
I got a challenge by my personal Medical professional to get my cholesterol level lower to under 200 or he wished me to have a statin. However I went to one more treatment to have. And tested out applying this particular cholesterol guide “Hοzantο Axy” (Google it). To my surprise, it works. It’s decreased to 200. This is certainly all without that nasty fishy taste along with other tablets..

In the presentation you said that “babies are born in ketosis” In the book Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes, he says Babies in womb get their nutrients from the mother through placenta and umbilical cord. The higher the mother’s blood sugar the more glucose the child gets in her womb. As babies pancreases develops, it responds to the higher dose of glucose by developing more insulin secreting cells The baby will be born with more fat and have a tendency to over-secrete insulin and become insulin resistant as they get older. The baby will be predisposed to get fat.So my question is this, how are they born in ketosis if the mother is primarily a carb eater and the baby is getting its nutrients from the placenta directly coming from the mother?

Eating every 30 to 45 minutes can be VERY dangerous. You continually release bile, is it? I did this at one of my jobs because I was always busy and it lead to disastrous results for my digestive system. I actually ended up in the hospital. I read constantly eating can be very taxing to the system. Look up Ayurvedic principles.
I’m not strict Keto. I’ve been doing LCHF for about 10 months. I didn’t have to loose weight and don’t have any major health problems. I probably eat an average of 30 50 carbs a day, eat no sugar except from raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. I do eat nuts, carrots, tomatoes and dairy, tons of green vegetables, wild salmon, avocados, no seed oils etc. I don’t find eating this way difficult or restrictive and have no intention of changing. Eating less frequently because I’m not hungry doesn’t change my love and enjoyment of food. LCHF is not a diet to me, it’s a way of life.

My endocrinologist didn’t break down what to do just eat healthy and take a weight loss pill . This is really helpful to keep it off. I gained back a lot of what I lost, so disappointing.

I am suffering from digestive issues as well that I am working on. I know that lying down after eating and eating before bed is a big no no for digestion. I know it also takes a lot of energy for the body to digest. I don’t know if eating so often is good for the body. What if you don’t release the right enzymes properly yet. I also don’t have a gallbladder so issues with bile. I have to take enzymes when I eat. Can someone help clarify? Or can explain. I feel confused.

He’s right. You have to have your brain washed to have any hope of recovering your life and health in the nutritional education environment today. In my case, it was pain that to forced my transition. Just 11 weeks later, I’ve lost 37 pounds and with almost all the pain gone. But even better, I know how to treat my body now for it to thrive. The rest of the weight loss and pill loss I can wait for, because of my confidence that I’m finally on the right path after 70 years.

Very important; a huge reason if the the biggest reason I got adrenal crashes was and still is, from protein deficiency.
If you are protein deficient, nothing will help until you get enough protein. Make your protein the largest portion on your plate at first, then after your body starts feeling better you wont need as big a proportion.
It took decades for ne to realize that I was protein deficient and that was the reason for the worst of my symptoms.

It’s not the calories in things that might slow or stop weight loss while doing keto; it’s the fat. Consumed dietary fat is used by the body before the stored fat; therefore, too much dietary fat will slow or stop loss of stored body fat.

Bearing in mind this is what I THINK based on a few months of experience doing Keto + One Meal Every Other Day (or 47:1 fasting) combined with a litany of studies often cited by Dr. Jason Fung: you don’t lose muscle you’re using. If you are very overweight, you have a lot of lean, soft muscle supporting it (the legs are the easy examples). If you lose the fat mass and don’t increase your exercise of the muscles around your fat stores, then yes, autophagy will consume the excess lean muscle mass. However, as I’ve seen by being able to jog longer and longer distances on this diet (not run, just jog), and as a few studies show, exercise will help you retain lean body mass while fasting.
Where you get into trouble is when you do INTENSE exercise without a source of fresh amino acids. There are 9 essential ones the human body doesn’t make. If you make a lot of tears in your muscles (weight lifting) without new, free-floating amino acids to repair and grow the muscle, autophagy will consume the damaged bits of muscle instead.
It’d be cool to see a randomized study on the effects of fasting + strenuous exercise over 30 days vs. doing OMAD or OMEOD with majority of calories from quality protein and fat (in likely equal proportion). I think we’d find you don’t lose anything you need as long as you give the body periodic supply of quality proteins.
The problem is with sleep, I have insomnia. It is almost impossible to get the rest I need. And since I have Lyme also, I get palpitations when I go into a deep REM dream sleep. It pulls me out of it without fail. So, I can lay down and just rest, but I get very little sleep, which I know I need, and I don’t know who to fix that.

If you have kidney disease and I highly, highly, highly recommend getting a kidney function test for $31-39 through Health Testing Centers to at least see where you are creatinine/eGFR-wise because CKD may be making you tired high protein will send you to dialysis. If you have kidney disease, kidney.org and other sites recommend LIMITING animal protein.

This was the BEST video on keto I’ve seen so far. I was struggling with the “macros” mentality, but to have an internal medicine doctor say eat meat and fat, 2 cups of leafy greens and 1 cup of low carb vegies a day…I can do that! Thanks for sharing!

I’m on antydepressants pre menopause I just want to get rid of some bellyfat and my bloated belly… I’ve been on keto for one month (about 40-50 g. net carbs a day) and almost no benefits. Still hungry, tired and no wheith loss… perhaps I will try 20 g. carbs instead.
So hard to pick just three! I think I’d have to say avocado oil, canned tomatoes, and canned beans!
I got that book! I got all the Atkins books! I lost 90 lbs on the Atkins at one time! But sadly I had some trails got depressed and starting eating carbs again and put wieght back on. So I’m on the Atkins keto diet ago.
On a carnivore.diet Very very very weight loss resistant. Finally in ONE-derland. Awful soybean oil poison in Helmans mayo gives me the worst heartburn. Anyone know of a carnivore mayo?
I only want to do keto for brain health as at age 38, I’m crippled with anoxic brain injury induced parkinsonism,dystonia, chronic fatigue, mitochondria dysfunction, and depression. I can’t afford the organics and pasture raised. I understand that it doesn’t matter for those on keto to lose weight, but does low quality affect those on keto for neurological conditions?

Can’t believe my ears!
The only problem I’m running into with keto is that eating conventional meat with it’s load of hormones and stuff flares my endometriosis. Chicken is the worst, i had to completely stop chicken after just 2 weeks. Beef and pork are better but still feel it. In my country, it’s virtually impossible to even find non-conventional meats. Any ideas on how to get sufficient amounts of clean protein in such situation? I would really appreciate any suggestions:)

Hi MJ thanks for a really useful video:) it was great that you were so specific about what helped you. I am finding breakfast very challenging. Oats only hold me for an hour. But something heavier like buckwheat toast plus a protein often makes me feel too heavy. What did you have for breakfast? I’d love some ideas. Unfortunately can’t have eggs at moment. Soybean oil based mayonnaise appears to raise my blood sugar by like 20 points!! OMG! Seriously??? Now I’m going shopping to start making my own mayo. Kraft olive oil mayo, which still has soybean oil in it, has a lesser impact.
We all die. I’d rather die from high cholesterol and be slender, than die from obesity and diabetes. At least my thinner body will have better quality of life before I go. Before Keto I was really fat, sick and dying! Life, however long it will be, is GREAT now!

I’m not strict Keto, but I do try to follow HFLC as much as possible with an occasional fast. I lost 65 lb and am not done yet. I would like to lose another 25 lb. I’m 70 years old and been overweight for most of my adult life. Life without pancakes, toast and french fries took a bit of discipline when I first tried this HFLC approach four years ago, but it’s not even difficult now. I now find commercials with syrup laden waffles or iced doughnuts disgusting, when before they used to make me hungry. I don’t know if it’s self-hypnosis or what, but my tastes have completely changed. I no longer crave carbs or sugar. I often skip lunches.
Making fat my primary fuel and avoiding sugar in all its form was the best life change I ever made. No more Type 2 diabetes. No more hypertension. Even touches of rheumatism are disappearing. No more meds!! I’ve under-grown all my clothes and had to get a new wardrobe. I can still hike and canoe. Life is good.
I had a gastro doctor specialist tell me I would be on pills for my acid reflux the rest of my life. He really said that. I started keto and within a week and a 1/2 my acid reflux Disappeared. 10 months now and I haven’t even had heartburn. So much for specialists.
If you are considering Keto? I went on it jan 21st..was 245 pounds…BP was 145/90 avg
in one month….feb 21st..218 lbs..BP (And I have measured it 100 times! ) is now consistently sub 120/80!……ie 113/74 or 111/76….I am so sold on this! Funny thing is that i eat salt like a cow on a cowlick block! Himalayan pink two tablespoons a day! TABLESPOONS not teaspoons! and My BP has gone down…Now even though I am back on carbs my BP is still the same..LOW!

I’m loving oatmeal tsampa for breakfast. It consist of steel cut oats roasted barley flour made fresh, freshly ground flax seeds and oat milk and almond flour. It lowers my blood pressure so much its amazing cuz I have high blood pressure and it taste great
You have to try medjool date soaks in milk and let it sit overnight. It will sweeten your milk naturally. Or you can soak date in water to make it a lil bit mushy and add to your smoothie. It’s my go-to suhoor menu every Ramadhan

Great presentation!!.. Message to all the doubters out there,…. IT WORKS!!!! I lost 25 pounds in 19 days without exercise using the keto diet, and I’m continuing indefinitely. I’m 6’1 and 250 lbs atm, and I’ve never felt healthier. Just give up that comfort food, its just food after all. I used to live off high carb foods chasing the energy I felt i needed. JUST DO IT, change the way you eat and live longer!!!!

Love these conversations between Chef AJ and Vera! Does anyone know if dates are okay? I thought I would replace my maple syrup use with dates but am now wondering if dates might be problematic too. I’ve been eating a lot of nut butter and have now realized that’s not great, ha. I’ve been a junk food vegan for 8 years and recently realized I’ve been highly addicted to sugar and flour since I was little. I’ve tried everything weight watchers, intuitive eating, moderation, WFPB but once I slip I go off the deep end bingeing as much sugary and floury things as I can so I’m beginning to realize abstinence is the only thing that makes sense. I’m on 3 diabetic meds and insulin at night. I have been trying keto since Jan.1, 2019 lost 10 lbs then stalled out. I realize some of my mistakes now. The one good thing is I got my blood sugar to normal limits right away. I was supposed to return to my dietitian but she told me not to go on this diet so I cancelled my appointment with her.
In April 2019, my weight was 226# today 7/20/10 It’s 185#. Blood sugar was 444, Ha1c was 15! Today BSG was 87 and I will recheck A1C 8/5/19. Keto WORKS! a few days coupled with Intermittent Fasting also works. Easy for 24hr-36hr fast when your appetite is low. Good luck to those who give it a go! I will never go back to eating crap again. ❤

Are you able to sub avocado oil for baking recipes that call for vegatable oil? Also, did you stop eating carob vs chocolate chips? I love carob, too. My to 3 pantry essentials are rice of any kind (right now it’s GABA brown rice, a good marinara (I love Raos brand) and peruvian beans. I love the peruvian beans so much that they have replaced my usual pinto bean staple. You have some great staples, thank you for the ideas:D
PLEASE JUST STOP advocating for taxing and criminalizing sugar. Another vice will just emerge in it’s stead and people will ultimately choose for themselves anyway. Even if addicted, an adult is an autonomous unit of consciousness. These decisions are sovereign to the individual.
Where is the spiritual growth if all decisions are under the oversight of a regulatory body? Besides some people live out their full lifespans in the midst of any number of “bad” choices. It’s up to each one. Nuf sed.

I struggle with body image issues however the thought of being happy and being able to get through my day is enough motivation for me to throw away my body concerns (best I can).
I could use some help though. Would you be able to tell me how you recommend I go about stopping working out?
Because of my body image issues, I feel I’m somewhat addicted to working out. I don’t workout for hours a day or anything, but I DO feel anxious if I don’t get 30 minutes or so in. I do beachbody workouts currently and the program I’m doing is high intensity.
Adrenal fatigue has caused me not to have much of an appetite so I’ve lost some weight and In a sad way, I sort of enjoyed the weight loss. I also drink a caffeine energy drink called energize in order to workout. Which I always feel moody once it wears off.
I will put on ANY weight if it means helping my adrenal fatigue. However, with that being said, I don’t exactly understand where to start?
I love your video and all of the information. But I’m just unsure how to put it to practice. For instance, tomorrow would you just wake up and start eating that way? And would you recommend stopping working out all together? (I know you aren’t a doctor and I totally get that, but just asking based on your experience). If so, how will I know when I can start adding in fitness again?

I love to keep tomato paste in a tube canned Chili’s when I don’t have jalapeños and rice flour I love to dust shallots and cook them in a little avocado oil so yummy!
Hmmm.. I am now thinking I had adrenal fatigue for over a year. I was sleeping like over 12 hours a night then still waking up exhausted. I went to the doctor and they took blood for a couple of tests but said things came back normal. And now with this quarintine stuff I have been eating bland eggs black beans rice greens like 2 to 3 times a day for the past 6 weeks and I am doing better and better.
If you want to drop weight skip breakfast and just fast in the morning, eat oatmeal in the afternoon
I hate the horrible constipation I have experienced by going vegan. A gallon of water a day, nothing but veggies and freaking constipated!!
Dr Westman, I’m a big believer in Keto diet And have convinced others including my sister to follow me. I got into keto through intermittent fasting and probably had an easier time of conversion to fat adaption. Recently talking my sister through some problems she reveal/reminded me she had her gallbladder removed. I was wondering if you or your clinic had information on altering a keto diet to someone who many be lacking the digestion for the staple animal products on which keto diets are easiest to implement. I am in Vancouver BC Canada and am doing a 15 day water fast. I had headaches for the first 2 days but they are gone now. After I come off I will go back to Keto. It has helped my depression to go away a few years ago. I love this lifestyle.
