The 12-minute run fitness test was developed by Kenneth Cooper, M.D., in 1968 1 as an easy way to measure aerobic fitness and provide an estimate of VO2 max for military personnel. The Cooper test, as it’s also known, is still used today as a field test for determining aerobic fitness. The Cooper running test is a 12-minute running fitness test devised by Dr Keneth Cooper in 1968. The test was designed as a simple field based test, in which participants attempt to run as far as possible during the 12 minute time period.
The distance covered is then used to calculate an estimate of maximal aerobic capacity (VO2max).The Cooper 12 minute run is a popular maximal running test of aerobic fitness, in which participants try and cover as much distance as they can in 12 minutes. There are several other variations of running/walking tests, including the Cooper 1.5 mile run test. The Cooper 12-Minute Run/Walk Test for Aerobic Fitness Individuals without access to a rowing machine or treadmill can still evaluate their aerobic fitness using the Cooper 12-Minute Run/Walk Test. This assessment requires only a stopwatch and use of a track.
To complete the free Cooper Test, you simply have to measure the distance you can run in 12 minutes at a constant rhythm. Use the free Cooper Test Calculator to find out your level of fitness! The Cooper Test determines your stamina and physical ability by assessing the distance you can run, without stopping, for a total of 12 minutes.
The Cooper Test (Cooper 1968) is used to monitor the development of the athlete’s aerobic endurance and to obtain an estimate of their VO 2 max. Required Resources. To conduct this test, you will require: 400-metre track; Stopwatch; Whistle; Assistant; How to conduct the test. This test requires the athlete to run as far as possible in 12 minutes. The Coopers 12 minute run test calculator can calculate fitness using either miles or kilometers.
The formula for calculation based on miles ran is VO2max = (35.97 x miles) – 11.29. The formula for calculating kilometers is VO2max = (22.351 x kilometers) – 11.288.He became very interested in the 12-Minute Run test and asked Dr. Cooper to develop a workout routine for the team that included the run test to monitor improvements in the players’ fitness levels. Leading up to the World Cup, the players’ performance on the 12-Minute Run test improved by an average of 18 percent.
This Cooper test is a test of physical fitness, and is also referred to as the 12 minute run test. It’s very popular because it’s so simple to set up and conduct. It doesn’t require much equipment. You run as far as possible within 12 minutes, and measure the distance.Note: Please get clearance from your doctor before taking any strenuous fitness test like the Cooper Test.

Everyone else tapping out early.
Joe keeps up with Millie but is all hands on knees at the end and about to collapse.
Meanwhile, Millie just stands there, slowing down his breathing and casually sipping on water.
He’s not human.
wow in highshchool we did the cooper test but the soccer coaches said if you didn’t make 2 miles (3200 meters) you failed and couldn’t play
I can do 2.5km in 9 mins according to strava i have run only 206km all year, but i do run in the hills so i climbed more than 6,000 meters. Running hills is the key
I’ve never been a runner myself. I had respiratory problems as a kid which, despite not affecting me much nowadays, the lack of cardiovascular activity during my teens affects me today at 21.
I’ve been lifting weights for about 5 years but recently I signed myself up to the National Guard and one of the physical requirements is to do the Cooper test.
Needless to say when I started running 3 months ago I couldn’t run 1000 meters without stopping, but right now I can run 2400 meters a nudge under 12 minutes. Fingers crossed I can perform well on the test day!
Ran 3500m as 16yr old in highschool.. never trained running.. i was just a swimmer
Imagine living in one of ghose houses right by the training ground
Im 20 and my maximum was 1600m in 12 minutes and i workout everyday, guess im just not made to run
I recently ran 3300m, but I set my goal at 3500m. First let’s wait until the temperature drops a bit, hahah.
Age: 28
3500m cycling fitness is not always the same as running fitness
I could just sit here and listen to those handshake connections tho…
I wish I had done this at school or something, I’m a 16 year old who can cover 3200 m in the cooper test. That takes me even beyond excellent.
Today I took the cooper test in my school and I made 2600m and I’m 14
Had to try doing this test myself. 2860 meters in 12 minutes with a stuffy nose, averaged 189 bpm for the whole run. Having ran just over 200 km this year I’m pretty happy with the results although I would like to break that 3000 m!
You mentioned a while back you were going to go vegan are you still doing that?
Okay you don’t run normally. But I really doubt 167 is your max HR. Didn’t I see you hit a higher HR on the bike in another video? I don’t ever hit my mx HR on the bike but running a 5k e.g. I would. I’m 35 my max HR is 199 and I definitely would hit in in a cooper test. But if you don’t run I would assess your fitness doing a conconi test on a turbo or even better a lactate treshold test. You can easily calculate your VO2max and FTP afterwards which give you a clue of your overall fitness. People who normally do not run won’t be very successful in a cooper test, which does not mean you are not fit. Just go out for a short fast run 10 times I bet you will smash your cooper test result afterwards.
try running without selfie stick, have only run in mind, don’t talk on camera, results should be better
Being in the same age bracket and having approx. 15kg of extra fat compared to you, im very happy with my run of 2,79km.
I took the test on a pe lesson today in my school I’ve ran for about 2,8 km during the 12 minutes interval.
My biggest problem was breathing and keeping the hear rate stable… But it was ok…
I’m 16 in case you wonder.
do you need to warm up before the test conducted? if yes, what kind of warm up do you recommend?
I ran from my teens till early 30’s and NEVER enjoyed it, cycling is the fun way to be fit:)
I’m 16 years old and go to the 10th class.
In PE we must run also 12min and for a mark 1 the distance should be 2800 meters.
I make only 2500 meter like you, so are this result good or not?
Interesting… I never run, can I still do that test or should I train for some time before attempting it?
My record in school was 3050m. I was not trained at all but I always liked running and I am always walking fast. In a few months, I’m back home and I plan on running the coopertest again. I will let you know how I did.

Milner and Ronaldo will be like Buffon and Maldini, Judy play and play until they’re at least in early 40s
Buffon: I’m gonna be the oldest player to ever play champions league football
Milner: hold my Lactate test
I love how close Jurgen is with the staff, shows how real the man is.
Fabinho looks like he just came out of a concentration camp . BRUH
I always did something like this with my club. I really hated it.
Can someone answer me these questions? What is a lactate test and what r they doing to their ears?
And what r those black vests they are wearing? Are those for posture?
4.38 ohh my god. Pls for the love of god somebody get fabinho smt to eat!!!!!
I am curious to know the time spent between sample collection. Also, are you instructing them to increase pace at some point?
Unfortunate times, hopefully this will pass and we get back to normality and get to watch premier soccer again.
You’re not doing this right and you can do much better. First you need to warm up both your legs and heart. Because of VO2Max kinetics your heart will take some time to reach its maximum. For some people it can be up to 10 minutes you can see that on your Strava analytics, your heart rate is way too low at the start, so your muscles aren’t fed with enough oxygen, you’re just burning your anaerobic reserves there. Then if your muscles are cold you can injure yourself, so a good protocol would be to warm up at conversational pace for at least 10-15 minutes, and do 5 short sprint strides towards the end of your warm up (60 to 80m is good enough), and start your cooper test 2-3 minutes after the last stride. My best 12 minutes was actually part of a 5k race and I did 3110m right from the gun, and since I cold hold that speed for 2 more kilometers it can be improved. My VO2Max has probably not improved since then, but with better running economy I could probably do a little bit better. I’m 32. Also, a 10minutes cooldown after you catch your breath again is not a bad idea to eliminate the lactic acid buildup, even if it’s just a leg shuffle. I reckon you could probably do 2800m without much effort
Klop just rocking up in his Astra tourer haha!! What a guy
Fabinho needs to eat and hit the gym
More, mans a skeleton isn’t it
The man about to deliver the league to Liverpool for the first time in 29 years turning up to train millionaires in an Opel Insignia. Humble…
Can someone explain me what they took from the players ears and why? Thank you
Love the energy into the club, people are smiling having a good time
I am not a soccer fan so forgive my ignorance… what are they doing with their ears after the test
darn i wouldnt like to run a cooper test with 1000kg kg of equipment on me
First 5 minutes is just people dapping each other up
Right did they stop early for a reason or are they just stupidly unfit. Also Milner is a beast
It looks like the Liverpool team and staff all “burp the baby,” when they hug.
3800 meters 14 years old but I am also an intensive track runner soooo it’s a bit easier for me
7am-2pm: Hugging to say hello
2pm-3pm: training
3-pm-5pm: video sessions
5pm-9pm: hugging to say goodbye
All the young players who think playing at the top level is just about skills and tricks, take a lesson from Milner and work on your fitness. How old is he?? LoL
Milner looks like a UFC fighter, Fabinho looks like a Yoga teacher
The test is if you’re half as fit as Milly, you don’t need a fitness test.
“Klopp definately has artificial teeth, am i the only one noticing this?”
Wow.. it s really a big family starting from securities, cookers, coaches, all players and staff… in most of the other big clubs, you will just find star players come with 2 million $ sport cars, argue with securities on door even dont look their faces, geta angry on kitchen staff about foods, on training pitch behaves selfish and end of the day goes home without saying by. I really liked the way liverpool football club managed to create a big family. Respect
Being a pro footballer would be so fun. Never even mind the money just training with your pals heaps, being fit and playing football all the time in class facilities etc
