How to Prevent Repetitive Use Injuries (Rotator Cuff and Lateral Epicondylitis, aka Tennis Elbow)
Video taken from the channel: Mount Sinai Health System
Medically known as lateral epicondylitis, “tennis elbow” is caused by inflammation of the forearm muscles and tendons on the outside of the elbow. Tennis elbow is often caused by overuse – from too much repetition or improper technique. The most common sports injuries sustained by Tennis players tend to be knee injuries although ankle sprains, elbow pain, and back pain are also likely.Rotator cuff injuries There are lots of reasons tennis players might suffer shoulder pain, but one of the most common causes is overuse of the rotator cuff muscles, which sit next to the.
Dislocations / Separations (often the shoulder) Sprains – (Torn ligaments) Achilles Tendon Rupture. Strains – (Torn tendons) One of my motivations to write this article came when I stumbled across an article from Tennis World USA, about common tennis injuries and noticed it was a mix of Acute and Chronic injuries.Tennis Injuries Introduction.
Introduction. 1 Sprained Ankle. 2 Shoulder Pain. 3 Calf Strain.
4 Stress Fracture of the Back. 5 Tennis Elbow. The rivalry of today’s elite tennis players, such as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer has propelled the popularity of tennis to an unprecedented level. Most common injuries coming off the tennis courts are generally related to the shoulder, the elbow, the wrist, the back, the knee, and the ankle. Let’s get into all those specific ones that we just mentioned, #1 – Tennis elbow You must have heard of this injury before, so what is it?
Sprained ankles are relatively common in tennis players, as the likes of Roger Federer and Andy Murray have all suffered this injury. Sprained ankles tend to occur on the court when players sharply twist or turn, and subsequently strain or tear the ligaments that connect their leg and feet bones.Two-thirds of tennis injuries are due to overuse and the other one-third is due to a traumatic injury or acute event.
Overuse injuries most often affect the shoulders, wrists, and elbows. WHAT ARE COMMON INJURIES AND TREATMENTS? Tennis Elbow The injury most heard about is “tennis elbow,” which is an overuse of the muscles that extend the wrist or bend it backwards.Tennis is one of the most astounding effect, quickest paced games on the planet.
That is extraordinary while you’re playing. It may not be so extraordinary for your body, however, as tennis players sustain most common injuries in tennis, especially on the hard-surface courts that are so.Tennis leg is the most common tennis injury within older tennis players. Tennis leg is an incomplete tear or rupture of the calf muscle. The injury is noticed right away by hearing a popping sound, or a jabbed feeling in the leg.
The injury is very painful; players are unable to finish their match if injury occurs.Of course true to the name tennis elbow tends to be a very common injury. This is an injury that occurs to the upper arm on the inside close to the elbow itself. This tends to create problems with the way that you use your arm overall and if you are not careful you can badly injure your arm even further.Tennis may not be as intense as some contact sports like football or hockey, but we do see tennis injuries often.
Tennis is a very physically demanding sport due to having to change directions quickly and strategically direct the racquet. We see patients of all ages for tennis injuries. 10 Common Tennis Injuries and Treatment Option.
The most common injuries include: Tennis elbow: This is an overuse of the muscles that extend and bend the wrist. The muscles are most impacted when the tennis ball hits the racquet. Shoulder injuries: Typically due to poor strengthening of the rotator cuff muscles, these injuries often irritate shoulder tissues, such as the tendon and the bursa.
common tennis injuries: tennis elbow Tennis elbow is a condition that refers to elbow pain as a result of overuse of the arm, forearm, and hand muscles. It is common among tennis players, but anyone can get it through repetitive arm use.Wrist injuries occur more frequently on the dominant side and can be associated with tendons, ligaments, bones and nerves. Tendon injuries are particularly common.
Pain can be described by its location: radial (thumb side) or ulnar (pinkie side). Ulnar-sided wrist pain is the most common complaint of tennis players.

Cheers for the video content! Forgive me for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard about Parlandealey Flexible Elbow Process (just google it)? It is an awesome one off product for learning how to cure tennis elbow minus the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my buddy at last got astronomical success with it.
Tennis players are such a big bunch of pussies. I never knew grown adults cry over injuries till I watched this
I injured myself while plating table tennis back in 2012 and my shoulder has never been the same!
tennis is the only sport where i see men and women crying like 5 year olds when they get hurt
Kudos for the video content! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you researched Mackorny Tennis Play Blueprint (do a google search)? It is a good one of a kind product for Eliminating Tennis Elbow Pain without the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my cousin got astronomical results with it.
There are a few factors in ways to treat tennis elbow. One place I found that succeeds in merging these is the Freds Elbow Helper (google it if you’re interested) without a doubt the most useful resource that I’ve seen. look at the interesting information.
Why did they all just stare at her writhing in pain on the floor
Lmao Tennis players are the wimpiest athletes I’ve seen along with soccer players. These injuries are not even severe or life threatening yet they’re acting as if their lives are about to end.
Thanks for posting. Your explanation fits my deal. I’ll try anything at this point….
4:07 ‘someone go and help her’. Yes. Why’s there no medic on the court to respond immediately?
Be sure to read honest and real reviews of Tennis Elbow Tips on my blog before you buy. Go to gohonestreviews. com/tennis-elbow-tips-review/ Thanks, Talbert.
hey,if anyone else needs to find out about how to treat tennis elbow naturally try Pycanta Elbow Relief Protocol (do a google search )? Ive heard some great things about it and my friend got amazing success with it.
Not certain about the points made but,if anyone else wants to learn about best tennis elbow relief try Jaffacter Elbow Treater Coach (do a search on google )? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.
Not certain about the points made but,if anyone else needs to find out about best tennis elbow therapy try Panlarko Tennis Elbow Planner (do a google search )? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend got great success with it.
where are the paramedics…
…. hmmm… maybe they fell asleep
This video is perfect but your dog is the reason I had to watch it twice to actually get what you were saying; it had me rolling the first time around haha.
After watching these clips of tennis injuries, tennis must be the worst sport on the planet for lack of medical assistance.
This stretch is exactly what I was looking for. Practicing 250 serves a day I was in dire need of a fix. This stretch is now leaving me pain free and able to practice my serves. Obviously the shoulder strengthening exercises are needed as well but this doctor hits the nail on the head. You need to do this stretching in addition to strength training. Otherwise like I found, you will suffer pain from performing lots of serves.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us.
i have had the same prooblem with the ankle that bent playing soccer. Swelling and for months I could not do anything. Really painful
Thank you for this very informative video but I can’t concentrate on anything you’re saying because of your adorable fur baby!! ❤️
Wow! Shoulder felt better immediately! Thank you so much Doctor!
Wow. This is magic. I followed along with the video, pausing it at times to do the exercises. AND now I feel almost complete relief!! (I had a sore shoulder for 2 days after practicing serving a lot)
The audience and the people that watch this sport are so fucking infuriatingly passive.
great video! My shoulder feels better after one round of stretching. Balance the shoulder first, then strengthen. Great advice for tennis-related strains. Thanks for taking the time to post this excellent video.
You look like a good tennis player looking at that forehand and backhand slice. Thanks for sharing advice on shoulder pain. I’m going through it now because of my serve action.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with fellow tennis and sport enthusiasts!!
Wow, this is great! Thanks! — My own physio always says to me to “stretch and strengthen”. Do you have any rotator cuff strength exercises to add to the stretching?
I\’m not sure but,if anyone else is searching for how to treat tennis elbow naturally try Pycanta Elbow Relief Protocol (do a google search )? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.
Thank you for sharing this. After playing tennis, for me the pain is in the back part of the shoulder not in the front though.
Watching this is like PTSD FOR ME THIS HAPPEN TO ME ON COURT
I think this will definitely help with my shoulder issues from serving. Thank you!
interesting points,if anyone else wants to uncover how to treat tennis elbow naturally try Elbow Recovery Tactics ( http://elbow.recoverytactics.com/ )? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got great success with it.
thank you for this video, it helped me so much! I knew this stretch but it didn’t work for me(feeling pain, not stretch) until I changed the position of the elbow as you suggested.
Hi! Thanks for this video! When is it safe to go back to playing tennis after a shoulder/arm injury? I’ve waited almost 3 weeks now, and generally haven’t felt any pain in over a week now. I can feel my arm while doing certain shoulder exercises but I wouldn’t describe it as pain, and I can tell that the arm is still just a tiny bit weaker than the other one. Am I safe to go on court and play some gentle strokes?
Yes, the respons is bad but are we just gonna ignore the last bal boy that fell after the tennisplayer fell
*Sorry for my bad English btw
Why is there nobody around to help? Just a few idiots wandering over and saying you ok?
These injuries look like nothing compared to big boy sports like football and baseball. I counted maybe 3 in this video that looked serious.
The second one gets me, I had to quit swimming from a medical condition and I wasn’t even a pro but it hits hard having to stop doing what you love.
Mad respect towards the opponent that realized something was off and went to comfort another man working hard in the same sport, true sportsmanship.
Ive personally experienced one of those ankle breakers on a skateboard going close to 30 mph.
The body keeps moving while the shoes do their job and grip.
Mass and velocity become very real at that moment and the ankle looses.
Ironic that the 1st responders to a tennis injury is the opponent.
Tennis player: gets injury
Crowd: 10 rounds of applause
Staff member: stares and say,are you okay.
Tennis player: fck you mathafacka..
Next thing you know Federer gets sniped by some madman in Flushing Meadows and the umpire walk over and asks, “hey Roger, you alright?”
i thought that none of the players or staff can help because they dont have a medical license unlike the medic staff, correct me if im wrong sorry
My opponent returned a shot close to the net, while I was behind the baseline. Stupidly, I tried to get it, couldn’t stop and went flying over the net. I landed on my elbow, which pretty much shattered.
People just stand around for about 20 30 seconds after their injuries. If you have any sense, your first initial is to go over there immediately and get medical attention as fast as you can.
Great tip. That’s exactly where the pain is in my shoulder. Do you know what cause the pain on tennis court? Is it because of wrong motion or to hevy racket?
I’m deadass starting a GoFundMe to help get medics on the court
I dont know how or why there isnt medical staff near…
Players are left screaming while everyone else watches
ice? ice? um ice dosnt fix a fucking torn pcl shit needs a docter not a trainer the has a 3 hour training
Another great exercise is Baoding style ball rotations. That is where you rotate two balls in the hand. Helps warm up and strengthen forearm muscles. This video shows example: https://youtu.be/0zwVQgfWd74
The paramedics so rubbishe it take them 5 minute on court why sort it out tennis
Dude all these men that are crying are pussies, I Face planted on hard court, busted out a tooth and broke my nose and finished my match
I play for a high school and one time a player lost a match and was frustrated and went to the pick up his bag.He picked it up with great aggression and fell back and hit his head on the pole and his leg bon fell out his knee socket and punctured his skin. The bone was literally sticking out of the side of his knee. Worst Injury I’ve ever seen
It takes so long for them to respond to an injury, very frustrating to see.
que demora pra chegar o socorro e não entendi o pq da platéia aplaudir em algumas situações kkk

google translated what injury toretire is and it said it means “In Rente gehen” in germany which means…… to retire ^^
It’s really sad, we know what’s gonna happen but the people in the video have no idea. We sit here anxious while they play like they do every day.
Ik you should have paramedics around, but for some reason I don’t know how you could get injured. Anyone help?
What happend to Almagro, was he dehydrated or something else?
There’s a video of a soldier losing his legs after stepping on a landmine. The guy never screamed in pain or cried after the explosion, even when members of his squad were wrapping up his wounds. The injuries & pain in this video are minor compared to what that soldier experienced yet these bitches are either screaming as if they’re being murdered, or crying as if they went through something traumatic. Smh Tennis players really are pathetic. They’re worse than soccer players. Lol
5:37 ” Don’t worry everyone it’s okay: the racket is fine!” lmao
Everyone is trying to bust medical professionals asses but it’s not like they are kept up the players asses. And it’s also not like injuries happen every 10 minutes. Ignorant people
Two fucking idiots standing there with their hands akimbo. “Walk it off, Lady!”
For those wondering about Almagro, he had be suffering from a knee injury for a long time, and it ended up being the injury that took him out of pro tennis. He broke down because he had that realization mid match against Del Potro that he wouldn’t be able to continue the career he had built around him
I normally watch football and paramedics are always on the sidelines. They’re out there on the pitch the second it’s clear a player is injured. Why the fuck were there no paramedics here? Tennis players are not immune to injury, there should always be medics on the side. Just a bunch of goofs standing around staring.
Well to be fair girls do have a higher pain toler WÀAAAAUAUUHABHABABVAUAIAI
Even the men cry. This is crazy. Ever seen a mlb pitcher get drilled in the head?
They never show you this when they advertise for raquets, balls, shoes or other tennis equipment. You only hear famous players saying:”if you want to play like me, buy this raquet”
@ 2:50 Doctor: Where do you feel hurt? That guy: MY FEELING.
the lack of medical help when someone goes down is actually overwhelming. How ignorant can people be
hi everyone,if anyone else trying to find out best tennis elbow therapy try Jaffacter Elbow Treater Coach (should be on google have a look )? Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate got great results with it.
So much money being poured into these tournaments, and what, no medical team on staff?
Del Potro is such a gent to the game. He’s respectable, very caring and lovable to tennis.
uh the medical team needs to attend to the players faster.
wtf? we are just streaming them screaming in pain for 30 minutes?
Guy foams out the mouth
Personel:do you need assistance
Guy:uhhygf⁶yudjfhfghd…..
Personel:I will help you when I get permission
Guy dies
Personel: huh I thought I had more time
“Someone get out there and help her!” Totally true, too often does it take medical people to get out onto the court, they should be the FIRST people allowed out there when someone injures themselves, they shouldn’t have to get permission, it’s bullshit.
Regarding the first clip, why the fuck is everyone just standing around with dumb looks on their faces?! And WHY did it take so long for medical people to get out there?!
5:35 ball boy realizes his chance, sneaks in and steals the racket:D
you forgot the mother of all tennis injuries, michael stich’s ankle injury. that’s the nastiest ankle twist you’ll ever see.
Karlovic must have it pretty bad. That’s a guy who’s almost 7 ft and all that weight going into one leg as he falls.
Is there a exercise for a feeling of burning in the shoulder joint?..I used to think it was the rotator cuff, but Im not sure. Thanks
They need to have an ambulance in the arena. That is actually not ok.
What the fuck wrong with human being? all standing and watching;(((( so sad, at least nobody trying to come around them i hate, this shows how heartless there are. I can’t watch it
I dont want to watch the fucking matches, I just want see the injuries!
The knee is a hinge joint with limited range of movement ie works like a door hinge. When you try to move it in the same way as your hip which is a rotating ball & socket joint, a knee injury will occur. Tennis players hips get stiff with practice so they should work on getting more movement into the hip area through regular yoga practice to help prevent this injury.
Hi Erin,
Just wanted to say that I’ve been struggling to get rid of a shoulder injury for a while and recently came across this video.
I’ve been doing these exercises for a week now and it has made a huge difference. Thanks for your help! Subscribed!
Are they slow because this is the ONLY times this has happened or…
I can’t wrap my mind around this a professional championship with no medics on standby. WTF rly??? Or if there are any what the hell are they doing? Where are they being summoned from?
They need to at the very least have someone go in and hold the persons hand or something not walk over slowly and gawk. This bugs me about tennis.
Man as a guy who’s dislocated both his knees multiple times I can’t look at this but I’m still fucking watching
That first clip…I was thinking it was kind of weird that someone came to check on her racket before someone checked on her. But then it’s also pretty damn funny.
When the commentator said “that is obviously the end of the match”
It sure looks like all the tennis medical folks are stoned. I’m faster than em
Why tf do people go up to them and just stand and look. help them!
Is that a real doctor? @ marker 2:05, golfer’s elbow/ medial epicondylitis, is common in tennis and can happen when a player has wrong mechanics and/or makes late contact on a serve, forehand groundstroke or forehand volley.
This is a prime example of human society today. No one gives a fuck about anyone until it’s too late.
The male commentator it should happen to him I ave pulled a muscle omg it’s awful the pain is with u for a month
By the time the medics get here i would have finished a mcrib,
calmy walked back and finally get some help
Girl: screens in pain, audience: claps: WHAT FUCKING CUNTS MATE
I finally went to orthopedic surgeon after meeting general physician few weeks ago ( recommended anti inflammatory gel and some physical therapy). Orthopedic surgeon saw x-ray and did not notice any issues. They moved arm and checked shoulder strength and said there’s no tear. For pain, they gave me some steroid pills: MethylPrednisolone. They also requested me to continue physical therapy. I’m not sure about steroid pill. What do you recommend since pain is constant and radiates from shoulder to forearm/elbow
With all the screaming and crying in this video, I’m having a little trouble enjoying my sandwich. Let’s keep the noise down people! [Actually, I severely twisted my ankle in a tennis game once, and I couldn’t run for like 6 months. Very painful injury.]
It’s so nice to see that rivals are helping the hurt ones
So… they’re narrating their injury while they’re screaming in pain and screaming for help?
Dude… When someone cries that way you know they are in extreme pain. Get them medical attention fast
I feel sick, as in literally face feels white and overwhelmed when seeing someone in that much pain. Probably means I care for their pain a lot
I just broke my ankle during a tennis tournament and thought how bad luck I had, now I realize is the most common injury on tennis
WTH no one helps the injured what kind of people are there around
Wtf they get injured and the woman stands there whilst everyone else just stares
I think the referee or an official first comes in to ask if she wants to forfeit the game for the injury. Some injuries need basic medical attention and then some if you attend to she is out of the game. So the ref. tries to confirm that first. Like in a boxing match throwing in the towel. Since here the coaches can not interfere the player is left alone to make decisions thru the pain and agony. Unfortunately the ref. does not have the common sense that the player is “done” for the game. But when a player is BEGGING….I agree. It’s still slow af
Why does no one come to help them? She was literally screaming help me help me!! And no one came FFS come on medical professionals
That 2nd girl saying fuck in front of all those families. What a bitch.
Novak is such a beast. Turned his ankle, kept playing the point, while still doing crazy splits and defense. Legend.
Gibt es denn keine Mediziner beim Tennis? Das ist ja lächerlich und verdammt gefährlich. Respektlos einfach
This is how I feel when I need to type long stuff on a cellphone keyboard.
Right, women are better with pain than men. I had a near complete fracture (nearly fractured in half the ball joint in my shoulder) of my shoulder joint and didn’t scream like these great “athletes”. I screamed once and then pulled myself together. Grabbed and stabilized my shoulder and arm with my other arm and then found a spot to lay down on the ground and phone an ambulance.
Its not that crazy. Instead of screaming and crying like an idiot use your brain to work through the pain.
In soccer you break ankles
In basketball you break ankles
In football you break ankles
In tennis you break “YOUR OWN” ankles
Fuck tennis….the medical staff is always non existent and retarded….stupid ass sport.
trying to read between the lines, but I think Mattek Sands just wants some help in 0:47.. such a shame that NO one is rushing there
trust me the ankle is hurt, but the knees is worst..if they scream because is really hurt in first second and of course shocked..already was both injuries
ok. can somebody please explain why when these girls scream, everyone stares, and no one does anything? this is the first sport, first activity ever, where someone screams in agonizing pain, and no one does anything? is this a prank or what am i missing? someone care to elaborate on wtf i just witnessed?
So painful to watch I over stretched a ligament in my knee over a year ago and it’s still not back to 100%…
It pisses me off how slow they react to their injuries when they can clearly see how much pain they are in
I’m 21 years old and I used to get cramp in both of my knees, cramp in knees are more horrifying than any other cramp, that inmense cramp makes you scream like you are about to die, when i got that on bed even my mother and grandma cried watching me scream of pain, i said my mother to call ambulance, that pain is a nightmare…
during the first vid first thing the guy does is move the tennis racket away from her
Thank god I joined the military and not Tennis. That’s too dangerous for me.
So to summarize the prevention tips… Don’t be a weekend warrior. Simple as that! Thanks
Does it make me a sadist for specifically watching for hearing them exclaim in agony?
Tennis medicare is so bad they don’t come out till they think their dead.. in nba thier out in like 2 secs
interesting points,if anyone else wants to learn about best tennis elbow therapy try Jaffacter Elbow Treater Coach ( search on google )? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my neighbor got great results with it.
Where the f*ck is the professional medical help? They arrive slower than in any other professional sport. Such a shame, and disgusting to watch.
1st one was cramps and her screams scares me, anyways most of them were cramps
Thank you so much for sharing these tennis injury prevention tips. I will give them a go tonight before my tennis practice.
Great video. However, is jogging for 10 15 min is enough for a warm up? I always believed jogging or running is great exercise to be fit. Please share your expertise on jogging running. Thanks.
I really like the chocolate part!
Just kidding, lol.
Thanks Matt, this video is helping me a lot with warming up before the match.
Keep it up guys.
Great warm up routine! Now that I’m at that certain age, the exercises are a definite must. Thanks so much!
Great warm up video, easy to listen to with some new modern ways to exercise
I find the more fit you become the more important it is to warm up each time.
Slurpy & Chocolate on the lip at the end made me giggle……..
Great way to deliver a message!
These tips were a big help to me earlier today, not only did it help me feel confident that I won’t get injuries but it also allowed my body to not be as tense as well as tight on the court and it showed improvement in my game. Thanks so much for the video and tip. Good Job
