The only more “normal” sounding meal was the lentil pasta dish the healthy looking blonde woman talked about. The rest of the meals seemed totally unrealistic and unappetizing to the vast majority of the population. Most people don’t crave beans and quinoa and kale mashed together in a bowl!! That being said, I’ve been a vegetarian for years and there are plenty of great options (even vegan ones). But some of these ultra “healthy” doctors (like Neal Bernard in particular) look VERY underweight and are not healthy looking at all.
I’m from Russia and live in the Siberia, so I eat mostly beans, tofu and other whole foods

I tried to be vegan but I started to look old it was bad I was like no thanks. But I do love beans and carrots I’m not a big salad person.

My breakfast after 18 hour fast every day: soy milk powder, nutritional yeast, ground flax, walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nut, cocoa powder, cinnamon, mint, ginger powder, rolled oats, dates, all in cold green tea. 600 calories and more than 50% RDA of every vitamin, mineral and fat, not to mention around 60% of fibre. In that 6 hour window, I also eat spinach and other greens, a few pieces of fruits and and all kinds of cruciferous and other veggies. I almost never cook… This is also awesome for my financial health since it costs me only a few dollars a day.

Worked in kitchen at Chili’s. Microwaves are used for heating up certain vege sides (like broccoli and corn), pastas and certain desserts like the lava cake. Everything else is grilled or fried.
I really like seitan because you can adjust the seasoning to your liking and get that meaty kind of flavor… honestly even when it’s chewy and not the perfect meat texture I really enjoy it. I mean it’s not exactly like meat but it satisfies me by giving a similar experience
Ive been plant-based vegan for about ten months now and can say without a doubt, I will never eat another animal product again. I love lentils in just about every way possible to make them. I make a vegan Madras lentils dish in my slow cooker that is so good. I also make mental burger patties with lots of chipotle and black beans that I like a lot too.

I am a meat eater but I am vowing to go meatless for this week. I made a vegan curry and did a ton a meal prep (cooked lentils, rice, garbanzo beans, potatoes, and some veg) so hopefully that all helps and makes eating meatless easier.

You should try marys test kitchen seitan, i made it from that recipe for that first time, and it turned out great! Plus, she blends the ingredients right into the water, which makes it super easy to flavor.

Also, have you ever tried soy curls? They are dehydrated soybeans in a bag. All natural and very versatile. You definitely need to doctor them up because they taste like nothing.

Interesting, my four year old (step) granddaughter recently asked my wife what i ate and upon my wife telling her, she was so surprised. Oh she said, “i thought doctors don’t eat food at all”. (She also thought doctors only live in hospitals and “dont have homes”).
I love Dr, Klaper he changed me to a vegan and I can say that he literally saved my wives and I lives. I’ve been vegan since 1985 and never looked back. No more cruelty, no more artery clogging, cancer causing, diabetes causing, inflammatory causing diseases for me. Consider this, 80% of all diseases are caused by animal foods!
I have not had an even average experience at Chili’s for over 10 years. In several states. I don’t go there unless the options are dire. The food has changed so much and servers that aren’t stoned are rare I guess.

More concrete proof that doctors know next to nothing about basic human nutritional requirements.
There are no plant based replacements for meats, there are simply no plant based sources of vitamin b12, no good plant based sources of the fat soluble vitamins (a, d3, E and k2), nor saturated fats nor dha or epa
So basically you cannot be WFPB vegan if you have gut issues. Those “foods” would wreck my intestines.
I currently work at chilis
1. No we do not water down any drinks. All bar and regular drinks are measured exactly. Example a coke we fill ice to the top of the handle then add the coke.
2. we don’t “push” you to order anything. I generally ask because i HONESTLY really enjoy all of our desserts. (and if you are too full we have a way to wrap up every dessert)
3. I will never understand why people get upset at staff for a long wait time. we get “POPS” at a certain time every night (also known as dinner rush) we generally do our best to get people in and out but i’m not going to rush my guests to eat faster.
4. we dont microwave anything unless karen wants hot water with her burger
5. there is a select menu section “guiltless grill” that has all the low calorie items
6. the food has calories…… jesus. yes it has calories. (also she said “seasoned with american cheese) (( the Big mouth bites have Ranch, cheese, bacon, and onions, that also comes with fries. i dont know the exact calorie count (its on the menu) but i know for a fact its not as much as she said)
7. we have a dishwasher. if something is not clean when it comes out I will hand wash it and make sure it is before I use it for a guest.
8. you can tip whatever you want???? we dont make the price for anything in the restaurant. we cant adjust prices either. no one says you have to tip a certain amount.
9. there’s 3 ways to have your ribs Honey chipotle, BBQ, Dry rub, or original (which is just BBQ with more pepper)
10. ok the kid thing is that was true the server must have been literally stupid. you get bar drinks from the bar and regular drinks from the back and furthermore KIDS DRINKS COME IN A COMPLETLY DIFFERENT LOOKING CUP.

I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, but we have a Walmart nearby where I can find tofu for $1 and they even sell morning star farms there! They also have Chao vegan cheese and tofurky slices. There are great alternatives everywhere! You just have to look

Drinks at Chili’s…I went to Chili’s in McAllen TX while on a trip, and asked for a glass of wine with my meal. The waitress said, “We don’t serve liquor on Sunday.” Really, wine isn’t liquor. After a couple of minutes the same waitress delivered beer to another table. I was unhappy for two reasons. One, I had waited for more than half an hour for my meal, and two, I could have been offered beer if they were so convinced wine is liquor. I walked out. I don’t need some freaky self righteousness from Chili’s.

I am following a what I call RAINBOW diet where daily I eat at least 7 different colours of vegetables and fruits. Dairy free, Meat free, oil free, sugar free and Salt free. I have also made a powder that has linseed, quinoa, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, kernels, pepitas, sesame seeds, cashews, peanuts, rolled oats and buckwheat. I add this to my multigrain flour to make roti. Legumes, beans and lentils are on my daily lunch menu. I have lost 15kg in the past 7 months. Never felt that healthier and energetic. Trust me vegetarian diet works.
There is also pulled oats and it is good alternative for meat i wouldn’t eat it every day but it’s good alternative for meat it allowed me to have some meat free days as a meat eater and that says alot
Almost every restaurant uses a microwave. Maybe a few 5 star restaurants might not but I’d say 90% of them do.
As someone who worked at Chilis, the watering down accusation varies on location. Our presidente margaritas were not hand poured. They were batch made and poured from a sad excuse for a keg…so yeah, they sucked. And the location I worked in definitely kept chef mike busy. Not just sides. Sauces. Pasta. Sides sent back because they were cold. Chef mike. Chilis where I live has A LOT of competition and we would get guests in droves with little staffing and little to zero help from management. We didn’t have bussers or even bus tubs to help clean tables. So working cocktail, a 15 table section, alone, and trying to keep it clean with no help….yeah. that particular chilis can suck it.
Again with the Tex-Mex! Chili’s is NOT Tex-Mex! They are “Southwestern” but definitely not Tex-Mex!!!

I found out the calorie replacement the hard way, After having a very healthy vegan pregnancy ( my little sweet potato is 6 months old) i had some issues with my breast milk supply starting to tank when she was around 4 months and eating more. I was bullied into dairy and meat by everyone around me and was basically in tears and depressed because come on i know kids change your life but my while foundation and belief system was being tested, i knew my doctors had to be wrong because so many other vegan moms breast feed, low and be hold i wasn’t eating enough calories. Any new vegan moms reading this, please don’t let your family and doctors bully you. My daughter and i are perfectly fine now and 100% vegan shes a healthy and growing like a tree. #veganmom
I couldn’t stand tofu at first, because I only had it at Asian restaurants where they made is taste like sponge… But when I found a couple ways to cook it myself I fell in love! Now because of some digestive issues I can’t eat beans and can only eat small portions of chickpeas or lentils, but I can eat tofu and tempeh. I really learnt how to make it taste great and I don’t think I could live without tofu like you said, there really is a learning curve with tofu

I’m going to go off topic. I went to Chili’s last Saturday and the restaurant looked packed, but when we walked in there was a lot of tables that were empty. And a section that was closed. I’m a millennial. Our generation is getting lazy to go out. I know it sucks, but I love the dining experience.

Well, Chili’s is at least a little better than Applebee’s. The menu used to be pretty limited but it’s better now. It’s still far from my first choice to go out to eat at unless it is close or other more preferred places are closed.

Miso soup with bok Choy and tofu, kimuchi, baked tofu, and veggie fried rice! I just make it on Sundays and heat it up. Or I could throw in some noodles in miso soup and make it kinda like ramen.
Busting bars and pubs for watering down drinks is the reason why i carry a hydrometer and a tall skinny container in my pocket when I go to a new place the first time!.. And I am not afraid to announce it to everybody in the establishment when I do find out there doing that as well.

Tofu is love, tofu is life. I worship tofu. You only have to know how to use it. I can make tofu taste very similar to bacon, and I can make it in a way even my dad, who is a rural German farmer who loves eating meat, enjoys eating it. There are so many ways you can prepare tofu. But heck, I sometimes even bite into a piece of plain tofu because that’s just the kind of person I am. I am a tofu human. I am made of tofu.

1:33 booze is not expensive. The food cost in restaurants is way higher and add in the spoilage and waste, restaurants lose money on food and make it up in booze. Using well liquor with a bottle cost of around $4 and squeezing 20+ shots out of that bottle at around $3-5 a drink, most restaurants make loot from the booze.
Really excellent video! I think a lot of vegan recipes don’t focus enough on satiation, so this was very helpful, especially, as you said, to those new to veganism. Also, btw, I had the same experience with tempeh I thought it was weird at first, but now I love it! I sauté it in strips then eat it with some mustard delicious and super easy.

I think the easiest way to transition into lentils/beans is to get used to other plant based proteins (like tofu and tempeh) first and also cook the heck out of them in a slow cooker with spices and lots of water. This will retain the nutrients while breaking down the cellulose. Bean chili is your friend, especially if you have issues with iron. Also be on the lookout for other products with iron which is what people usually eat meat for; the bagels I buy are surprisingly 35% of my rda for iron.
Also, VARIETY! Switch it up, it sucks to eat the same thing over and over so don’t bore yourself.
But soy is so bad for you. It has estrogen and its horrible for the environment. You vegans are worst than canists on the environment.

A very boring life. Tried the vegan/plant base for two weeks never felt so miserable in my life not to mention the amount of weight loss which is not good. It’s good to have a predominantly vegetarian diet but meat atleast once or twice a week and fish a couple of days

There are so many people that say chilis is bad because of one experience and they need to calm their nazi asses down cause I work at a pretty damn good chilis and the only bad thing that happens is long ticket times. Sometimes its just a badly ran location. Try a different one and get over yourselves
The longer I’ve been plant based, and the older I get, the more I like tempeh! It’s savory and umami and lovely! But also a bit funky and healthy (in a bad way). If it’s cooked properly, tempeh is utterly delicious. It’s just the matter of cooking, and proper application. I find that it can fit in sandwiches, and in stir-fries, and not a whole lot else. Which is a bit unfortunate. The worst thing anyone can say about tofu is that it’s bland. Tempeh is like tofu in every way but the opposite, it’s completely not bland! I guess it’s just a hard sell in a meat-eaters world
I love lentils,carrots,celery,great northern beans, potatoes,Garbanzo,black beans, garlic,chipoltle,kale or spinach,corn,usually make a “chowder” out of any of these.it starts out as soup but thickens up so

My go to…. a huge colorful salad with a rainbow of veggies and a small amount of healthy plant based fat such as 2tbs flaxseeds or hemp seeds or 1/4 avocado…. then some steamed veggies sprinkled with nutritional yeast and coconut aminos

Microwaves are a standard for chili’s but it’s not like we cook everything in there just the vegan burger and some other things but the deserts for a fact go in the microwave

My dad works at chili’s and I’ve been in the kitchen many of times and have never seen anyone use the microwaves they have them but they barely use them all I see is workers putting chicken on grills and frying food

A combination of vegan and fasting saved my life. I peaked at 375lbs with a lot of health conditions. 1 year on all conditions have gone and I’m down 125lbs. Best decision I ever made. I can’t believe how good food tastes when you cook everything from scratch and fresh. Ive never eaten so well, apart from the fasting part of course:)

I eat so much supermarket mock meat. I’ve been living off battered vegan fish and chips for the past fortnight. Not the healthiest, I know. I did batter some tofu the other day though. Not much healthier, but a bit cheaper (when the mock fish is full price).
Many supermarkets in the UK sell Tofu. It’s not hard to find at all in rural Devon.
As a current employee of chili’s, i’ve watched them make alchoholic drinks, i’ve never seen them put water in the drinks. At least my location doesn’t.

Your diets are far from healthy as they consist only of carbohydrates, fibers and sugars that lead to bloating, bowel problems, poor absorption of nutrients and malnutrition in the long run.
They also lack at least a dozen essential nutrients that no toxic supplements can replace.
I know because I tried it myself for 18 months and got bowel-problems plus felt very weak. Shortly after I started to eat lots of high quality animal products, I do never get any bowel problems and I am the healthiest and strongest I have ever been.
The diets you recommend are outright hazardous in the long-run and are based on the scare-mongering around saturated fats that scientific frauds like Ancel Keys laid the foundation for a half century ago.
Yesterday I got the weirdest advice from two vegans who really had no clue what they were talking about.
This guy kept going on and on about food combining but never really told the group how to food combine at all. The only thing he said was that all vegetables goes with every thing.
I’ve food combined and I did lose weight. Only at that time I was eating some meat. And even after I stopped eating meat I still food combined. Known as macrobiotics.
I did not want to be rude so I did not say anything. But man this dude was so not confident in what he was saying.
The one lady who is a raw food vegan. And she has been vegan for 50 years. She does not look healthy at all. She is rail thin and she is taller then me. And has a lot of wrinkles on her face. And moves very slow and shakes a little bit too. Plus she never said how old she was either.
And I have seen a woman who is a raw vegan who looks ten times more healthy at 70s years old, then this lady I saw yesterday.

And I raised my hand and said that when we come off from eating meat we need to replace the calories that came form eating meat.
And I said that means that we end up eating a lot more food then we did when eating meat.
And I haven’t eaten meat since 2004. And when I don’t eat enough food I will feel ill.
The woman came over to me and told me that I need to portion size my food, and that my stomach is the size of a fist. And by my not portion sizing my food its the cause of me feeling tired. Which I never said I felt tired.
I told her I am very active and she said she was active too, then she turned around and left.
As she was leaving I said out loud that I am going to continue eating the way I have been since 2004.

Besides the last doctor I went to said I was the perfect weight for my age and height.

Nuts are great because they are portable. When I’m traveling or will have limited vegan options I take a mix of tree nuts and peanuts with me. I see nuts as a treat, so I don’t feel deprived even if I’m just eating a salad.
Are you sure it was prebiotics? I could’ve sworn fermented foods including tempeh and kombucha are rich in probiotics.

The drinks aren’t watered down. I drink at Chili’s quite a bit, also they allow you to get really loaded there, which I love.

Stopped going to chillies a few years back because i was sat and waited for 20 minutes for a waiter, at 15 mintues the manager started sweeping some spilt food saw me and ignored me. After i yelled at awaiter for service they sent me meat screwed on a metal tree and still raw. Never again rather go to Applebee’s
Worked as a bartender for over two years at Chili’s and have never added water in a drink that wasn’t vodka(replaced with any liqour) water/soda. Not even the premade presidente batches will get added water to them.
I’ve used big breaded eggplant cutlets as burger patties a couple times. Not the best veggie burger in the world but in my opinion it works nicely if that’s what’s available. Of course if you buy it premade at the store check the ingredients. Of course this would go with the mentions at the end of the video

I live in China and it’s really easy to get Tofu everywhere. Just 3 yuan a block! You can get fresh Tofu in the morning or packed Tofu in the supermarket. I’m always surprised when people in the west think soy products are bad for you, Asians have been eating those for little thousand of years.

So my cholesterol is low, but also my good cholesterol is low as well, as I have never had fish never liked it. I’m gluten free and eat vegetarian and vegan sometimes. Even though I eat nuts, seeds and avocado I still can’t raise the good cholesterol number for some reason
You can fry tofu to make a fried chicken alternative it’s not super healthy but it’s delicious
Soy can be very bad for many people, if not most people. I have read that in the Asia people are becoming increasingly aware of this and replace it with coconut aminos more and more often.
Only some things arw micro waved, but mostly all of it is produce in steaming bags, most things arw put through an oven or grilled.

Cons for tofu and tempeh: soy allergy/intolerance! (I know you mentioned it in your seitan section but I found it funny you listed a gluten allergy as a seitan con and didn’t list soy allergy in the soy options lists.)
A year and a half or so into my vegan journey, soy started making me very sick to my stomach. It was a little crushing, as tofu and soy milk had become staples of my diet. I also have to steer clear of MANY processed meat alternatives, as soy protein is often the main ingredient and will make me sick.
Seitan is bae though! I’ve tried to make it at home a bunch and never gotten the hang of it, but I love the store-bought stuff! (Yves and Uptons Naturals both make really good ones.) It can get expensive, though, compared to beans, so I definitely eat way WAY more beans. In terms of a daily protein staple, it’s beans all the way (I’m also a big believer in protein powder but that’s a whole other convo, lol.)
Its not that they heating up by microwave i worked there. We only use microwave to reheat some hotdrinks
I worked at chili’s for years. So let me correct this video a bit.
1. Frozen food is NOT heated in a hot pan.
And yes there are microwaves which are used pretty much only for steamed veggies. Oh and rice so yeah I don’t recommend the rice its pretty bland anyways.
2. Any “house” drink anywhere you go is most likely pretty watered down.
3. And yea as a server we absolutely upsell drinks because we don’t receive a paycheck it goes to taxes. So yeah a bigger check means bigger tips. Wherever ur getting 12$ an hour for serving is mind blowing because in the state of Indiana you get 2.13 an hour!! Which like I said goes to taxes.
4. I’ve worked in several restaurants and if u have to wipe the dish clean that just means the dishwasher didn’t change the water. Thats any restaurant not just Chili’s.
5. And high calorie foods… Uuh duh it’s called eating at ANY CHEAP RESTAURANT!
6. Servers don’t just go around serving kids alcohol. It was an AWFUL mistake.. But it could have happened anywhere.

Hm, I think meat isn’t big deal for some people. But your ideas is really nice, I’ll try some of this. For me personal Dairy replacement is trouble, cause I liked Greek style yoghurt a lot, and I can’t eat thinks like Alpro over sugar stuff, or coconut/almond yoghurt cause it’s too fat for me. And for hell sake I can’t eat most of beens, almost all soy things (smoked tofu is my life). So, sometimes life is pain ♀️

Saturated fat is not bad. It actually reduces levels of LdL, the type of cholesterol that blocks arteries. I’ve been on a keto diet for a year and just had blood work done. My bad cholesterol was extremely low even though i eat lots of bacon, eggs, etc.

Essential amino acids are known as ‘essential’ because our bodies cannot synthesize them ourselves. Therefore we need to obtain them through our diet. Amino acids are important for production of proteins and really essential for the body as a whole

I work as a fryer at Chillis people just have to be wait and be chill. A little bit we can get up to like 15 orders at once. On a busy day
The items that they are cooking in the microwave are usually sides like steamed veggies or a side of rice. They use steamer bags just like you would use at home when cooking broccoli in the microwave. There is no realistic way to serve hundreds of people freshly steamed sides without doing it like this.
Also if you have ever worked in ANY restaurant you would know that the dishwashers usually do a piss poor job at the end of a long shift (or if they are drunk) and miss things after running plates through the machine. Every place I have ever worked at has this problem it’s not just Chili’s.
Enoki mushrooms are also good for a pulled meat replacement. A local vegan friendly restaurant makes tamales filled with seasoned enoki mushrooms and topped with red enchilada sauce and vegan cheese. I freaked at first because I thought it was meat. The fact that the mushrooms are low calorie is fine with me because that way I can eat a little more without putting on pounds.
Thrive market has shelf stable tofu in a box. It is really good.
I only get gassy with beans when theyre canned but not when i cook them myself
Tbh it makes me really annoyed a lot of the time when I see people who make stuff that’s supposed to look and taste like meat but has super meager protein content.
Sprouted legumes are more nutritious than unsprouted. This has been well studied and well documented.
If you want to maximize your nutrition, sprouting your legumes is the way to go. French lentils are the best, and they are very easy and quick to sprout. They are good raw or cooked, and they are also more easily digested.

It is the soy thing. Those who have legit allergies to soy, understandable to avoid tofu, but for all those others that are not and just want to jump on a band wagon, or avoid cuz you have convinced yourself that it isn’t healthy, get over it. There is nothing wrong with soy, unless you are truly allergic.
Damn seeing a lot of bad experiences in the comments. My local chili’s seems to always be on their game then. I haven’t had a single bad experience yet and I visit most Sundays for happy hour.
