Thank you for referencing the books I have also been listening to Zoe Harcombe.
Dr. Becky
I loved this informative video!
I have 2 questions for you.
You say don‘t eat too much protein.
How much is too much?
And how does the carnivore diet, which is sopposedly so healthy (Bettler than keto…) fit into this picture?
Thanks for your reply!
doc…by now u r probably 52 n yet still look hot n gorgeous…
congrate…ur low carbs really works…
Would love to see before-and-after photos of you two!!! They’re very motivational!
Thank you! this is what I needed to know! this is very great information. thank you for your honesty and your truth!
I am 74 and started on a Keto diet a year ago and have lost 100 lbs, and lost my diabetes. I am one happy camper.
Good information. I like the comments re low-carb at under 125 grams of carbohydrate. Not everyone needs to be under 20 grams. Eating these carbs with or just after the major evening meal is a strategy that works for some. Not me, mind you: I run better eating nothing till the afternoon, and then beginning caloric intake with (near) pure fats, as in a keto-coffee (butter, MCT) and/or 100% (no sweetener) cacao bar; my steak in the later afternoon (4pm); a whey shake (or three-egg and whey mug cake) about an hour or two later. At 60 y/o, after losing 120 lbs. on a beef-heavy low carb, calorie-restricted diet, have maintained the weight loss for a year eating this way. On the other hand, my wife, who never had the weight to lose, maintains her 125 lb. shape eating most of her 100 grams of carbs with/after the evening meal; she will eat eggs or chicken, walnuts-and-sauerkraut when she needs something earlier in the day, then in the early evening beef and some veg before the sweet potato and frozen mango.
Thank you Dr Becky, that was very interesting and helpful. You are beautiful by the way so obviously you take your own advice!! ha ha. xx
I enjoy your videos but this wasn’t one of your best. I suspect that quite a few people looking to start a low carb diet probably checked out after you put a strike through carbs, protein and fats. I realise you have done other videos providing a full list of acceptable foods but this title was misleading.
In uk after lockdown lifted, the queues to McDonald’s were insane!! These people are seriously addicted to processed carbs.
Hi Dr Becky. What about rice? I think it’s high on carbs but it’s not on your list. Personally I’ve been trying to cut it out. Pls advise. I like the presentation, simple and understandable.
Certified specialist sports nutrition personal trainer 25 years great information
Why did you list candies, chips, pizza, fries amd chocolate in your carb listing? Those all have high fat content which us why they’re bad. Be honest when presenting and not misleading. You’re the reason people are confused about nutrition.
Im doing low carb diet i eat: 20%carbs, 25% pro, 55% fat is that alright?
Awesome video! I find that when my diet is heavy in sugars/carbs, my hair greys much faster! When I follow a low sugar/carb diet, the color actually returns to my hair. It’s amazing!! Thank you for the video. I find your content to be very encouraging!! ☺️
Thank you Dr Becky, I am finding your videos very informative, you break things down into layman’s language.
I have just found your videos this morning. Thank you
I think also finding low carb alternatives to things such as bread and pasta is helpful. My biggest high carb problem was bread. I found using the keto bread recipes help cut my carb intake considerably. I don’t eat potatoes of any form.
Here is a good rule of thumb if you see it advertised, it’s probably not good for you. Seriously.
My high blood pressure has been reduced and I’m no longer on medication!❤️
Hello, Dr. Becky…. New sub here….What about peanut oil? Technically, it’s not a nut, but a legume. In which category is peanut oil?
And can you recommend the best oil that has a high smoke point? Thank you for your time and attention.
Been on a Keto diet since Oct 2018 and once I became Keto adaptive I have had zero hunger cravings. Since I have a hypothyroid over 40 years my carbs have to be lower than 15 carbs a day.
Please let us know what to eat. What about the insecticides in foods?
Whole potatoes have lots of fiber and water…they don’t belong with bad carbs
I eat all the bad carbs, but I balance them with protein.
I eat like a did has kid when I was a kid.
I balance carbs and protein
I only use olive oil. I use it on my skin and coconut oil on my skin
I go to a specialist because of pain, incredible pain. The special dietician has me on a special diet.
With your information, I can ask her intelligent questions
What is considered a low carb amount for diabetics to also lose weight? I’ve scoured the internet and there are so many different answers. From 45 carbs per meal, to 25 carbs per meal to zero carbs per meal. So confusing. Help? ❤️
blah blah blah blah…hard to sit through this rambling. GET TO THE POINT
Your diet with high fibre carb and high fat specially saturated and with protein is now on the way but one time I thought fat diet is dangerous so now I can take butter ghee olive oil etc with salad. Many thanks as you have changed my Concept as I am diabetic.
Low carb fixed my general anxiety during perimenopause! Carbs really intensify anxiety and depression because they make your blood sugar go up and down. My Dr wanted me to try antidepressants but I had said no because they can cause weight gain. Later I told her low carb fixed my anxiety and she was so excited and said it made perfect sense.
When walking around supermarket aisles, if you think of processed foods as Frankenstein foods it is easy to walk past and pick from the perimeter where the natural traditional foods are.
Thanks for the great video Docs, since i have been doing KETO i to have noticed how much better my joints feel Dr. Keith. I to have noticed that the few skin tags i did have are all gone now. You guys are usually dead on when it comes to letting us know all the benefits of doing KETO…
Do you believe in increasing your metabolic flexibility by adding a “Boost Day” of carbs every so often?
I’m 57 and 2 years into menopause. I tried a LCHF diet about 5 years and achieved great weight and fat loss. I do however, have hypothyroidism. 3 months into this way of eating, and I lost nearly all my hair, my muscles were so weak I could barely walk. My doctor was no help at all, and only through doing my own reading and research did I discover that my body had gone into ‘hibernation’ mode. My body was unable to metabolise my thyroid medication due to the lack of insulin in my body. Once I re-introduced carbs into my diet, I became well again. 5 years later, 10kgs heavier, all of it sitting around my belly and upper body, I am desperate to try this way of eating again…but also very worried. Dr. Becky, do you have any info regarding following a low carb lifestyle with hypothyroidism?
Are artificial sweeteners like stevia n erythritol ok for a low carb diet?
Dr Becky,it’s difficult for me to meal prep and count calories,so I just buy the healthy choice and smart ones you know the low fat frozen meals I just started this so I don’t know if it’s going to be effective, what do you think?
I have been on and off keto over the last 3 years I lost 70 lbs first year in 6 months pain in joints went.
6 months later put 60lbs on pains came back. 2nd year lost 50lbs over 4 months then stoped for 6 months put 70lbs on. Now stared again 1 month in 16lbs down and felling better. One thing over time I have learnt that Carbs are addictive Im 59 now and have made the decision to stay on keto full time from now on.
Watched your vlogs over the lst few years very helpfull and Thank you both from the UK.
My goodness what an irritating video. Way too round the houses. Just say what to eat before half way through the video.
Thanks for the info. It sounds like you have had the same revelation that Dr Bosworth and Dr. Barry had about fats. I have been following their recommendations not so much for weight loss but to reduce inflammation. Most of my aches and pains are now gone or much less server. A knee that hasn’t bent very well for 5 years is near full range of motion.
I missed carbs for a couple of days so I made the 90 second microwave keto bread. It was terrible but it got me away from the craving. I made some fat bombs to help with cravings and never ended up eating them because I just feel good. My husband uses them to sustain him at work because he doesn’t have time to eat a meal. Then I wanted ice cream so I simply whipped some heavy whipping cream…added raw cacao and some stevia drops. I portioned it out in 4 oz. mason jars and keep it in my freezer for when I really want some. I’m 6 weeks in and feel so much better even if my body still doesn’t want to release the weight.
With regards to win/lose weight, energy balance is the whole issue. A 2K calorie intake versus 1’5K waste will resault in weight gain, regardless yoy ate carb or non-carb food. This is where keto theory fails.
Am I shallow just because I watch her because she’s so good looking?
Finally found a video that explained the reason why I shouldn’t be eating high protein with low carb diet! Thank you so much!
Hi dr. Becky I’ve just started keto diet, what’s your opinion on keto please
Being carb addicted is mentally and physically exhausting. I know and have felt the benefit of low carb I haven’t been able to stick with it. I really want sweets. =/ I don’t get it.
Answer is -not much! That’s why keto and low carb diet ultimately fail
Dr Gillaspy, i love your new format. To the point and so much good info and so clear, thanks so much!
So what about people with heart disease. Are you recommending them to eat lots of eggs and saturated fats? I am really confuse.
I am solid evidence of a low-carb diet being super-essential, beneficial for joint, muscle, bone health. I had a severe brain injury in October of 1994, was in the hospital about 6 months, out-patient rehab for 6 more. My main 2 residuals were/are slurred speech and very challenged balance. Both have gotten better, or maybe I’ve learned how to work them better. But I used to fall ALL THE TIME. I somehow noticed when I lost weight (I had lost 5 lbs for some reason) that my falls were less consequential. So I scanned the Internet for weight loss and came upon DB almost immediately. She became my mentor. She advised me to lose about 5 lbs. (I was already at an okay weight.) I did by following her advice, low-sugar and -carbs. My falls still happened, but I bounce back up unbelievably well (as Keith sited). Now, more than 25-years later, I still occasionally fall, but not as much and it’s absolutely no big. Usually. And, I was one of the first people to join DB’s Freedom program. And I love it. And you 2 Fit Docs. Thanks for everything!
What are non starchy vegetables, you failed to explain? Someone teaching beginners should never assume any level of knowledge from their audience. I say this not to belittle the author of this video but to point this out because I don’t know and want to know. If I have this question then it’s safe to assume their are others with the same question. Thank you!
Too many people still have a mind set of calories in calories out instead of learning about insulin resistance and hormones like insulin and vitamin D and blood sugar levels and sleep and stress reduction.
It helped me to GO AHEAD and EAT A HIGH PROTEIN breakfast of 4 eggs sunnyside up with runny yolks cooked in unrefined cold pressed virgin coconut oil.
Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of butter and himalayan salt.
You can also eat a teaspoon coconut oil.
You are not going to be hungry!!! You fix your hormones.
When you eventually get hungry then maybe eat some hamburger or steak without the bun with a little grass fed butter.
Drink purified water or spring water
Eat a little probiotic unsweetened yogurt.
Get direct sunshine over more than 60% of your body during the noon hour but wear a hat.
Go for a walk about 1 hour or longer in the cool of the evening
Bone broth with Himalayan salt
Green tea with cinnamon
Deep sleep about 10 pm
Deep sleep is when the body heals itself
Every hour before midnight is more valuable
Honor the circadian rhythm
Meditation
Stop watching the toxic news
PPT avoid the wrong people wrong places and wrong things
Destress
Tai chi or yoga or Chi Gong
A joke a day
This is sensible information. Yes, a clear list of things you can eat would have made this presentation much better. It seems she is advocating a Keto diet without saying as much. This is what I eat and I would recommend it to anyone. Videos by Dr. Berg are amongst some of the best on this subject. As a male of 68, I eat two meals a day, no cravings or hunger and feel really well. Many starting out on Keto eat too much protein so that’s a good point she makes.
Hi, I loved your video I have been on low carb no sugar for a few months now and I have lost 8 kilos, sure it was hard at first but much easier now, I feel great I found your video very informative, I was astonished at the connection to skin tags, I have a few which I am looking forward to watch disappear now, once again thanks.
Try some protein ice cream, look up Remington James recipe…it’s the best thing ever for Keto
Loved this video.. However I would’nt recommend Mark Hyman’s book as he pointed out how “dangerous” it is to fast….!!
I’m 65, post menopausal, on steroids and on insulin (diabetes from the steroids) and my diabetes was insanely out of control following the diabetes dietician diet. I asked for help and they gave me even stronger and higher dose insulin and I began packing on even more belly fat. So I went on a 6oo calorie low carb vegetarian diet for eight weeks and them began adding back nuts, seeds legumes and a very little whole grain since it makes my blood glucose jump high I’m extremely insulin resistant. I was never hungry for an instant and had zero cravings. That was astonishing. I lost ten pounds in the eight weeks. My husband lost thirty. It is extremely hard for me to lose weight and I have a sedentary job which means the protein I eat just turns into glucose if I eat much of it. So we got a little dog to walk. I figure if we are reluctant to leave our computers to take exercise for ourselves we would do it to please our dog. Anyway, I cut my insulin in half in addition to the weight loss and my blood sugar is becoming stable, but carbs have to be very restricted for the foreseeable future. I now eat quinoa, buckwheat and oat groats, hempseed, pumpkin seed and other seeds and nuts and legumes instead of starchy grains and cooked radishes and cauliflower to replace potatoes. It did take a mental rebalancing before I could prefer mashed cauliflower over mashed potato but I was desperate and that helped motivate.
I find it easy to concentrate when the presenter is a beautiful well spoken educated European lady.
I noticed that my nails are different, smoother. I am low carb for almost a year now.
Great video, Becky, I watch you and your better half all the time, thankyou for the free information, very much appreciated!
I started the keto diet mid February 2020 and have lowered carbs and quit the sugar, and have added more of the good fats, and have lost 33 plus pounds and it is the first part of April. And feel better than I have for a long time at the age of 69 years old.
I’m 58, exercise regularly but was still about 25 pounds overweight and had issues with hypertension, bad cholesterol. I never realized how significantly the bad carbs I was consuming contributed to my weight and created fluctuations in my energy level throughout the day until I began a Keto diet three weeks ago. Now not only are my energy fluctuations much less drastic I go longer periods of time without eating and have lost about 5 pounds. I hope I can use diet to lower bad cholesterol enough to stop using statin drugs but want to lose another ten or fifteen pounds before I ask my doctor to check my blood work again. I also discovered most commercially manufactured salad dressings contain some type of vegetable oil so I make my own salad dressing using olive oil, balsamic vinegar, powdered garlic, salt, pepper and a little bit of Marsala wine added to taste.
You keep talking abt loosing weight I don’t have to loose weight Iam already small 114 lb
are you a real medical doctor? I ask that because surly you all getbasically the same information when you go to medical school right? my doctor whom I am changing because he accused me of not applying medical school guidelines and I was making excuses, angered me because he acted like the medical training cannot be wrong. so I must be wrong. anyway I am looking to try a diet (did keto before but couldnt stick to it past 6 weeks several times)I decided to do a mild keto diet and see how that goes, keto breakfasts lots of veggies for lunch and regular supper and work my way down gradually to avoid shocking my system.
So far what you said people can eat is nuts, seeds and avocados. I’m not real fond of any of those, so I have no clue what to eat
Hi doctor many thanks your all videos are very informative can you please share how to lower triglycerides by diet list the food items which can include daily diet which will not increase insulin nor down completely. Hope to hear from you soonest. Thanks in advance
I made hubby breakfast and supper on Father’s Day. The only thing that was keto was the broccoli salad with supper. I had more carbs in that one day period than I have had on any other day, in ages. The next day, I couldn’t get out of bed until 1 in the afternoon from the pain in my joints. I slept and did a LOT of stretching to just be able to get out of bed. Hubby asked what was wrong and he was shocked to find out the little amount of food I had the day before had that much effect on me. Keto is great for getting rid of inflammation! He now truly understands why I am so strict about what I eat. (I’m not a reach for a pill kind of person unless I really have to)
Love your videos. So informative for us beginners. I. Appreciate you guys! ❤️…To go totally off subject…is to just me or does Becky sometimes remind you of Anna Gestyer on “Delicious Dish” skit on SNL? Lol. It cracks me up sometimes. I just wait for them to say “good times”. Lol. No offense, i get a kick out of it. I loved Delicious Dish and totally enjoying you guys too! ☺️ keep up the great work!❤️
Oh my goodness. I just checked my armpits for my skin tags. They are gone! I have been eating low carb only for a short time. Who would have thought?
I have bought your program and have done the prep phase. Now I’m ready to start with the next step: buying the food and starting with Day 1’s menu and, etc. Why can’t I find it in my email? I feel like you have dropped me after having bought your program. Armina B.
Have cut carbs now over a year. More energy, more alert, great sleep.
I do put mct oil in my coffee In the morning with heavy whipped cream.
Lost 24 lbs..not going back. I stopped eating meat over a year ago and don’t miss it.
(I do have a treat day once a month).
Your very pretty, but when you do a video do makeup.
I was a pr guy for years, and ran a hospital in Washington.
You need to look like a tv reporter.
Love your presentation
Been on the keto way of eating for 11 months, lost over 75 inches and 75 pounds, still have skin tags on my neck and under arms, have about 130 pounds more to lose and I’m 60 years old,the weight is fighting me every step of the way I have intermittent fasted since day one, no off plan eating, even have done alternate day fasting, and two day fasting is when I drop the most water weight plus I quit smoking Dec. 28.
You will also save money. I find cutting carbs has curbed my hunger tremendously. I can eat two, and sometimes one big healthy meal and feel satisfied all day long. I put the extra savings into buying high quality grass fed meats and organic veggies.
it’s been 15 months since I seriously cut out carbs & I still am blown away by how much better I feel & how much more balanced my blood sugar is!! I didn’t need to lose weight but I was insulin resistant & my hormones were out of control. It’s amazing how my hormones have been affected in a very positive way! thanks Drs
Certainly sounds like it explains what’s been going on with me for a long time, particularly the past year. I’m vegetarian with a sensitivity to eggs and I don’t cook. Doesn’t seem to leave me with many options. Recently paid a nutritionist several hundred dollars to help me create a plan. I might aa well have burned the money for all the help she gave me.
Thanks so much for your videos I have noticed my eye floaters have disappeared!
You don’t have to give up ice cream or the bun on your burger to go low carb. You just have to buy or eat a keto alternative. I don’t care about the bun but I do care about ice cream occasionally, and I’ve gotten great results with some of the store bought keto ice cream that I’ve tried.
My heart almost stopped when I was on Atkin’s diet after a few days. I need carbohydrates like pasta or bread or potatoes.
What do u think about 20% carbs 30% protein and 50% fats distribution?
I have heard that a breathalyzer can detect acetone on your breath. Does the a breathalyzer differentiate between alcohol and acetone? Does someone on a Keto diet have to fear failing a breathalyzer test by the police?
people think it is a myth but it is the truth hunger goes away!! you have to try it to believe it!!!
eggs and bacon is great, but what about the high cholesterol??? if it’s gets over 200 the Dr puts the patient on Statin drugs which will kill them anyway.
What is your view on counting calories (along with macros)? I do both and am down 65 since August but I read a lot about not worrying/counting calories.
Please can i have some meal examples, is olive oil good or bad fat?
having type 2 and lowering my carbs has put my blood sugar under total control. It is not hard to do basically all you are doing is eating normally and cutting crappy bread, pasta, rice and junk food.
I love this new way of eating! I feel so much better! I’m losing weight & my cravings have gone way down! I feel better now than I have in many years! Carbs have always made me sleepy anyways. Your vides have been very helpful!
It’s been a month a month now I’m on my LCIF OMAD bec Im trying to lose weight. I’m a carbs person super super carbs. Since I gave up on it I lost 6kls. And I notice my face getting younger and brighter.
I still it carbs by baking almond or coconut bread.
Good description, but we need names on what to eat. it doesn’t help much at the end.
Good question. I feel like if you cut carbs, what else do you eat?
I hate to say it but six years ago I had a knee replacement, not fun. At that time I did not know about Keto diets/Carnivore. I swear to you had I known I might never have needed that operation. It has made a huge difference in my life and your vids have helped.
Hi guys, a little background about me. I just turned 65 weight around 180 dealing with diabetes for 27 years and in remission for stage four cancer. I exercise three days a week with weights and hitting the heavy bag. When you said 125 carbs was a good starting point I couldn’t disagree more. I was told by a dietician that eating 240 carbs a day was a good thing. Gee I wonder why I put on so much weight. It wasn’t until I had my heart attack and nearly twenty stay in ICU I switch to IF and eating less carbs of around 60 per day or less. I switched to keto and got my weight at one point down to 165. Now I am back to 180. My biggest problem is around my waist where I am pretty solid every place else.
Recently had the idea to go into a keto or very low carb diet, this helped out a ton for what’s bad and good to consume..
Only wish the stores here sells some of these stuffs like coconut oil etc
LOVE “2 fit docs” It was also such a pleasure meeting you both at LCDenver FYI I made Keith’s Meatloaf tonight…my husband’s favorite! By the way, I’ve been low carb for almost 4 years now, but have found the greatest success with more of a keto/carnivore lifestyle for almost a year
I never knew that about skin tags!! Oh my goodness! Thank you again for such an informative video.
Today (30.5.20) I have become a vegetarian.
Before this I was putting two pieces of chicken into the oven, and it hit me that two animals had died to give me a meal.
I realised that’s not what I want or need, so today I went to the supermarket and bought enough food for several days.
I had my first meal of three veg sausages and two veg burgers and I’ve never felt so full. And NO FAT.
I feel like I’ve been to a banquet, which is something I never expected.
I recommend you try this as it also helps weight loss and gives you a healthy interior.
Why in the world would I have to give up my homemade IceCream…Oooh no
Admitted, I eat IceCream maybe a couple of times in a month, at the most.
I eat it as a full-blown Meal…Not as a treat.
My Ice is made of Creme fraiche (18%fat4.5% Sugar), Yogurt (3.5%fat3.5% Sugar),
and egg-yolk as an emulsification agent + Vanilla extract.
Whey-protein powder with taste, as an option (3-4% sugar).
Still, it is a Carnivorish IceCream…I think
The most surprising thing for me has been a drastic improvement in my dental health. I’ve had bone grafts, root canals, and have a couple of implants; I was on a quarterly cleaning schedule to help preserve what I have left. For the past 3 or 4 visits the hygienist has remarked at how “perfect” my teeth are. Yesterday they said “let’s schedule you four months out and if all goes well, we can probably go to a six month schedule.” Now THAT is a positive change that makes me very happy! Thanks for another great video, Docs!
I follow your video but our doctor said that fat adaptation damage kidney and also liver for extra pressure on it.I am confused what can i do?
Can you do an episode on how Dr. Keith is dealing with a damaged metabolism from years of insulin resistance. Do you think your metabolism can be repaired through Keto by making your cells sensitive to insulin again or do we need to accept the damage to our system and make permanent dietary and lifestyle changes?
Would be nice if there was one section of the grocery store with just the good stuff
Hello 2 Fit Docs,
Thanks for the video.
Can you tell us, why some people suffer from hair loss when on Keto diet?
hi the first statement you gave was that insulin level is high so it stores fat… but then what about diabetic people and they are obsess too
Skin tags! Who knew?!? Yes, I have them. Thanks for the info! Just started watching your videos a few weeks ago; slowly removing sugar from my diet (as I empty my fridge & pantry… on a budget) but already down 11 lbs and feeling better. YAY!!! Thank you!
I am 61 and have lost about 60 lbs. I walk 5-6 miles every morning. Haven’t eaten sugar this year (except for a couple of special occasions). Love your videos! Never going back to my old ways!
I lost 50 pounds on keto and took a break for 4 months and my joint pain came back worse than ever. I’m back on it again for 3 weeks now and the pain is just starting to get better. I still have 30 pounds to lose anyways, might as well.
I firmly believe the skin, hair, and nails are maps to what’s going on inside. We are wonderfully made by God and He makes it easy to diagnose things if we only knew what to look at/for.
Doc, im on IF..i eat OMAD…but can i drink coconut oil early in the morning. Will it hinder with IF? My window is very uncertain as i dont feel hungry and just to ensure that i eat something i end up eating mostly at 2pm. I mostly eat chickpeas. So if i wake up at 6am can i take turmeric tea with ghee..and not eat till 2pm…will it still be IF? I have pcod too
My fav..bread,fries,pizza,and chocolates..
Thats why its hard for me to do a low carb diet
Sweet potatoes (boiled) are considered a low GI food at 44 and glycemic load of 11.
When I eat a high carb snack or meal (like a piece of cake), 3 hours later my blood sugar plummets. That is a terrible feeling. I almost feel panicked and will eat ANYTHING! Shaky, sweaty. That is the reason I can pass on the cake at the party…it’s not worth it! Plus, I stay slim and healthy. I look at the 30 year olds (I’m 53) who can barely walk, and I think “Yes, it is worth it.”
I reversed 15 conditions w/dairy-free keto & not just diabetes & obesity but eczema, CKD, NAFLD,…
I have a great recipe for English muffins/burger bun made w/eggs, almond & coconut flour, flax seeds, oil, & baking soda!
Morning, I’ve been doing low carb onto keto for 4.5 months, am amazed at how fabulous my skin feels. I’ve always had dry sensitive skin that would feel more dried out in water, now it is water resistant and has this lovely lustre, especially my hands, my palms look and feel amazing.
How low carb should I go as i have hypothyroidism? I find Keto leaves me very weak
I would love for you all to review Dr. Ted Naiman’s P:E diet book…interesting take on low fat vs low carb
Fasting & Carnivore is Keto on steroids. Hi to all zero & low carbers
I would like to offer a sixth reason, the mental alertness. Cognitive processes seem much better. Specifically “brain fog” begins to slowly disappear.
Oh my goodness Keith. He tripped and fell? I am glad he is ok.
I slipped in the shower last week. I am blessed to have caught myself on my right side and did not break anything. I was sore for a few days. My wrist is still sensitive.
Carbs are crazy. I had eaten way too many during the stay at home time and I could feel the blood sugar issues returning, the cravings for more carbs, sweets, etc. It was horrible. It has taken me about 2 weeks to get back on track. I couldn’t do my intermittent fasting without feeling lightheaded and dizzy. I am finally not craving more snacks carby foods or sweets.
I upped my veggies and healthy fats like butter and olive oil.
Feel so much better mow.
Great video 2 Fit Docs!
*QUESTION After changing to a low carb/keto plan, approximately how long does it takes to feel a reduction in joint pain?
Minimal hot flashes/flushes, if any at all. I also take DIM to help, but I noticed that if I do eat refined carbs, the hot flushes increase. Used to crave ice cream but no more cravings. I occasionally make a frozen avocado smoothie if I want something like ice cream.
My eczema and ¨chicken bumps¨ disappeared when I went low carb.
How about a potato with salad o a side? Oats, i didn’t see a the “bad” section the oats.. please tell me that
I no what I can’t eat I thought you had a list of foods to eat on a low carb diet thanks anyways
You guys are great! Question: have you evaluated the difference between walking as exercise vs the gym and weight training in getting the keto numbers to go up? Low vs high impact? I’m seeing vastly different results and it makes me curious.
I’m considering a keto diet and wondering if sprouted grain bread like Ezekiel english muffins are ok. They are sprouted grain, and flourless.
I make ice cream with strawberries or blueberries and coconut milk, egg yolks and we LOVE it! I don’t feel deprived just satisfied and calm.
I saw in an older video that one mistake is not testing ketones. Is there a tester (blood) that the Docs recommend?
I started keto 2.5 weeks ago after one year of fasting with no results . I’m trying to mix the two now.
Also recommendations on carb counting app? I think the one I use has my protein too high. 60lbs overweight/late 50’s/woman
Number one benefit is I no longer need my asthma meds. I have also lost 60lbs so far and I feel better than ever. Thanks for your great videos!
I really enjoy the both of you and all of your vids. Thank you.
I can relate to a lot of these improvements. For me, my biggest change was vast improvement to my mood and mental health. I used to have moments of suicidal ideation, but no longer! Also, once I changed my personal hygiene products to more natural products, (dropped the flouride toothpaste) my skin and hair became much more healthy and beautiful looking. I look and feel much younger (33 but feel 21). Low carb is the fountain of youth.
Permit me to endorse low carb also… been that way going on three years. And all of my skin tags gone, surprise! My weight reduced (except some gain during the lock down), my blood markers great, and as of this week also is my Coronary Calcuim Scan score. Two years ago scan was 223…this week scan is down to 96. I solidly attribute the gains in my health to changing what and how I eat! And appreciate “two fit docs’ for all the knowledge shared. They have helped my journey…Thanks!
Hi, I am 76 years young, I started low carb because I am a type 2 diabetic who was on medication which wasn’t keeping my blood sugar in check, my numbers were always 160, 200, even a few times 300. If I’m honest though, what I realized was, I would eat all the carbs thinking the meds will take care of it, which of course was wrong. I got to a point when I could not afford $559.00 for a 30 day supply of meds, and thought what do I do now? So, I did some research, found you and Dr Jason Fung, learned so much about how the body works, started very low carb, and immediately for me, my numbers came down, it proved to me it was what I was eating that was my biggest problem! My weight is not a problem now, the weight chart says 126 for my highest weight, I am 5 foot 2 inches, I weigh 136, so going by that, I have 10 pounds to lose still. My blood sugar runs in the 80’s and 90’s mostly now, I have proven to myself it’s definitely what I was eating. I will never go back to carbs, it’s one of the hardest things I have ever done, but one of the most rewarding in terms of my health. Thank you for all of your sound, reliable information!
Hello Doctors! I, a 65 yo, started on a low carb diet last fall and have lost 35 lb. I had been taking HRT until I was diagnosed with breast cancer this Feb. I stopped the meds right way and after surgery, I was put on estrogen-depleting medicine. I was expecting major hot flashes, but I have not had any problems with them. I have stopped losing weight which is a little frustrating (I would like to lose 20 more lbs.), but low carb is now my chosen lifestyle. Thank you for your videos. God bless you both.
My favorite part of VeryLowCarb/Keto and more kind of a Paleo lifestyle is NO ONE CAN EVER REALLY GUESS My Age
I never thought my skin could clear up after years and years of acne
My Body Mass Index is as if I were 20 years old
I was able to pick up running, biking, hiking, swimming and dancing again✨
And my sex drive which used to be really low (like Demisexual Low), has now turned up and I’m happy and grateful for that too.
I had never been looking or feeling this healthy in my entire life.
Hello! I’ve noticed improvements in my skin and joints and weight loss of course. However, the most impressive difference/improvement that will keep me keto for life is the fact that my asthma is not a controlling factor in my life anymore. I used to need an inhaler multiple times a day to the point where I wouldn’t even walk the dogs without one in my pocket. Now I have a disk (Advair?) that I was using twice a day and now maybe twice a week. I don’t even think about it. Even things that used to cause me allergies have no affect on me anymore. I know most people, myself included begin with wanting to lose weight ( I was 206 lbs) and couldn’t shake it no matter what I did. I am now around 123 pounds and feel like my health belongs to me again. As I continue for the moms I am noticing improvements in my stretchmarks and sagging belly (4 kids) not disappearing but genuinely improving.:) I wish I knew about this 30 years ago.
So, let me get this straight, you basically have to substitute carbs with vegetables, but not even starchy vegetables! I just turned 50 so I will test the belief that weight cannot be lost at 50. I will certainly try. 65 kilos, so got between 8 and 10 to lose.
I eat ice-cream on keto
I’m not a big ice-cream fan but if I’m in the mood once a week in the summer I whip it up. Ppl in my family that aren’t keto L♡V it.
I have 20 carbs a day. I’m more of a salty snack person.
My favorite salty snack now is my cheese crackers……they taste like
cheez-its and are soooooo easy to make in the microwave.
P.s.
Dr.Keith you look awesome!!
my blood sugar fell 70 points and i have lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks by getting rid of carbs..l only have about 35 grams of carbs per day and none from junk. asparagus is a great food…it and celery are 2 things you can almost eat unlimited amounts of and not get much carbs.
I’ve really gotten off the wagon.. and am totally addicted once again.. Food is really on my mind constantly…I ordered your program Becky and did so well for about a year and a half.. and felt so good.. I know getting off of carbs works.. and I’ve got to get back to it.. Thank you for continuing your videos.. My body is sooo tired.. and I’m ready to get back on board..Judy in Tennessee..
I just stumbled upon these videos. I just turned 60 and are heavier than ever and have always eaten “clean” as I can with a whole plant based diet. I also exercise 3 days a week, but continue to gain. I have been tested with no blood sugar issues. But I continue to gain. I really need help understanding why do choose this diet? How do I know that I could be “insulin resistant”? I also don’t like the fact that these people are also into selling. I am just looking for answers. Thanks for any help.
I was on a low fat diet, no meat for years and couldn’t lose weight. Went on a low carb diet and have everything full fat now and meat in my diet and I am back to the weight when I left school which was nearly 40 yrs ago.
When you say 125 carbs, do you mean Net carbs or Total carbs?
I’m 73 (soon to be 74, God willing) and my husband is 79 (soon to be 80!), I’ve been concerned about my ever-increasing weight gain. I’m 5’2″ and have always been thin and fit, but the last 10 years, my weight has crept up and I thought it was “normal” as you age. My doctor’s never said a word. I’ve felt awful. My main weight is around my middle and no amount of exercise/walking has worked to get rid of it. I’m sure my non-existent metabolism has something to do with it but I KNOW my consumption of carbs and sugar is the main reason. I’ve been mostly concerned about diabetes. I have NO family history because I was adopted and never knew who my bio parents were to get any history from. So, my step-daughter (who’s 45) has been doing Keto for over a year. Recently, I decided enough was enough of putting garbage in my aging body. My husband and I have cut carbs drastically the last 4 days and we can tell the difference already. There’s more carbs we will be cutting but I need to grocery shop and who wants to go to the store now with what’s going on? I have HBP and take meds 3xdaily. My husband only take a cholesterol pill. We’re both very fortunate and we want to stay that way. My biggest challenge is what to shop for and what to make. Thanks for the videos and valuable information.
i would never thought i be able to give up pasta, bread, potato CARBS etc…. but now i don’t miss it because i feel good!!!! great video!!
On 12/29/19 I decided I was tired of craving food day and night. I told my wife that I was going to learn to cook, eliminate processed food, eat as much fruits, vegetables, chicken & beef as I want. I wanted to lose 30 pounds in 20 weeks. Being ADD/ADHD, I went all in. The cravings disappeared almost immediately. Mountain Dew & Coke never cross my mind (but thoughts of a chocolate doughnut from the gas station remains my ever-present nemesis). I lost 31 pounds in 67 days. In the last few weeks I let too many carbs creep back in (my wife buys crap for the kids who were sent home from college). So, I am now refocusing on always grabbing fruit or veggies or a modest amount of nuts when I am hungry. PSalong the way I never criticized my wife’s perennial terrible eating habits and underwhelming physical activity. I simply decided I would do what I needed to do for me but I never expected that she would change her habits after 27 years of marriage. Well, she did. She has probably lost at least 30 pounds, eats a balanced diet, and exercises. I actually have hope that she can accompany me on strenuous hikes in the great outdoors.
