You are right, it’s near impossible to get truly raw almonds. So your best bet is to buy unsalted, unroasted and make the almond milk yourself. I have a great recipe on my blog for almond milk.

It’s interesting the greens that are high in oxalyc acid, will provide less available calcium because the calcium in them will bind to the oxalyc acids then be removed out of the system without the calcium being absorbed fully. Spinach, chard, and curly kale especially are all high in oxalyc acids. For this reason I have been trying to eat more brussel sprouts, broccoli, lacinato kale, arugula, bok choy, asparagus, and collard greens to get more calcium from the food I’m eating. I just listened to Brenda talk on “Food Revolution” and was very impressed with the depth of knowledge that she has on nutrition. I purchased her book, Becoming Vegan, right away after listening to her.
I have been vegan for the last eight months and have lost over 45 pounds. My blood pressure has gone from borderline hypertensive to well within the normal range and I feel great. So much so that I had to stop drinking coffee all together because, after drinking it since I was a teen, it was giving me way too much of a buzz.
I haven’t received Brenda’s book yet, but I look forward to diving into it as soon as it comes in.

For those who believe we are omnivores, I have spent years working at Seventh-Day Adventist restaurants, five to be exact, and these people that I met, grew up on that diet, I have met many that have never had meat in their whole life, being raised in an SDA family. Their prophet, Ellen G. White, tells them that “not a morsel of meat is to be eaten” in Counsels of Diet and Food. In their restaurants they have no meat, no eggs, no fish, no dairy in the menu. All government studies (4) show they have the longest life span, the least heart disease and the least cancer. All of this proves we are not meant to be omnivores. And yet the greatest proof of all, is that the diet our Designer gave for mankind, in Genesis to Adam and Eve, was a plant based diet. I think God knows more than you my friend, and more than all the doctors and scientists in all the world. The problem is, is that people that teach that we are omnivores, choose to only look for evidence that supports your bad habits, and yes, eating meat is certainly a bad habit. Well there is 100% connection between IGF-1 and animal protein. This is something body builders try to increase. And there’s a pretty good connection between IGF-1 and cancer (actually those with dwarfism, and lack igf-1, are pretty much immune to cancer). So there’s some truth to the dangers of high meat and animal protein.

Very educational. What about GLUTEN FREE? The day after I ate Raisin Bran my stomach went from flat to bloated. I lost 55lbs on KETOGENIC LIFESTYLE & have always been active due to ADD/w HYPERACTIVITY! My husband is Type 2 diabetic and a couch potato after working 7 days a week behind a computer. Posture has dramatically changed, eats frozen meals. So to try to make him happy I ate the same & became lethargic & cranky. I garden 5-15 hours/Daily, work at least 5 hours in the kitchen chopping vegetables, composting food, cleaning & clearing out rotten old food & recycling. Plus work from home on his business. I try to get up during TV Commercials to get a task done ✅ or some form of movement. Dr. Joe on YouTube has a great, simple, short wake up routine to get you going in the morning. I have THYROID DISEASE, therefore, since discovered my doctor said I will always have high cholesterol. Periodontal disease since late 20’s age. I was a sick baby when born, missing 5 adult teeth & was bullied daily for a birthmark on my face from Kindergarten on up for years until it naturally slowly went away. Also, I have recently learned I have a larger than normal colon after a colonoscopy & misdiagnosed for 28 years. But I still mowed the lawn better than our yard guy, traveled the world , had twins, cut my own hair & the boy’s, volunteered extensively. Then due my doctor’s “infinite wisdom” he put me on a STATIN which nearly killed me. My muscles turned into violin strings, I could not bend over to do housework, get out of bed or turn over in bed. I could only walk forward. When I quit the STATIN, VYTORIN, I drank 2 gallons of whole milk daily, for 3 months; a craving I had to satisfy. Also, misdiagnosed with IBS for 8 years, my sister who lived in SLC suggested I try new technology called Spiral Tomography at a clinic there. The doctor was horrified going through the results and screamed, OMG, you have an extra organ that should not be there! Turns out it was an OBSTRUCTED BILE DUCT‼️ So network, do your research. Don’t trust most doctors. They put a STENT in and left it in for 8 years, which should’ve been removed 1-3 months after insertion. So I was on antibiotics for 8 years for gut infections, pain pills, in & out of Emergency Rooms which cost $1000 monthly, even with good insurance. I always ate healthy high fiber foods. My husband said I ate fruit , nuts, bark, gravel and vegetables. Nothing funny about what felt like a migraine in your gut & gave you muscle spasms in your back that would paralyze your back for 10 days at a time and I would have to hide under a table for 10 days at a time. Hope this helps someone out there. You never totally recover from STATINS. And they keep changing the bar (Cholesterol benchmark #’s so they can sell more drugs)! Gotta go now and eat my spinach!
Yeah, the vegan gurus say this is possible but I’ve not seen one of them put out a doable plan without fortified foods that puts the walk to the talk.

Quit eating red meat 40 years ago, dropped dairy, mostly plant diet (some fish). Now age 77. Have no conditions, no meds, active, alert, happy. See the books The China Study and Blue Zones, also studies of the longest-living Americans, the Seventh Day Adventists in Loma Linda CA who live longest when they eat this way. It’s also cheaper and cleaner!

Hello Doc, I’m not a milk or cheese person anyway. I do love greens. I also do a high fat diet. A carnivorous diet. Love greens but since I got older, it gives me bad gas and discomfort. I have always been interested in plant based. But I really have horrible gas issues.I’m not against veganism, I think it’s great. I wish I could be that way, I love greens, beans, all the vegan recipes. So to all you vegans I respect you. I have problems with the one’s that attack and degrade people. Everyone is different. i think; why do you say that plant base diet is good if according to his studies, only casein was the culprit. To me, i believe more in a very diverse food intakes than an exclusive diet which inevitably leads to nutrient deficiency. if you don’t eat meat, you better eat nuts or you might end up with very low iron level (for exemple). What else we don’t know about nutrients level and their effects on our health? The guy you talked about eat a little bit of salmon… well, salmon is rich in omega 3 which is very good at cleaning up arteries and controling bad cholesterol! So you see my point.
I personally eat meat once a week and i enjoy it. But i also love cabbage, mixed veges, bruxells, carrots, peas and so on and with a touch of butter, those are a delight. But i also can enjoy a slice of bacon with my eggs if i feel like it.
Who wants to live a life devoid of pleasure just to live 4 more years? Eating meat is a pleasure and that’s why people eat it. Now, there is vege burger, so maybe it will be easier to let go of meat, as far as the content of those vege burger is not full of salt and all kind of chemicals to make it palatable…

Yes, it’s definitely healthy if there are no soy sensitivities present. Tempeh is a fermented soy product, very high in protein and calcium. Make sure you buy organic to avoid GMO. Fermented soy does not have all the problems that unfermented products like tofu have.

Eat Papaya, which is rich in calcium, tropical fruits contain a ton of calcium, if you eat them calcium deficiency is a thing of a past

There is so much wrong and outright dangerous with this I don’t know where to begin. For the last 22 years I have successfully managed my type 2 diabetes by doing just the opposite of what this woman says. Liver issues are caused by fructose not meat. I’m sure all these “studies” do not control for sugar consumption.

nobody suffers from calcium deficiency. It was used as a marketing scam to scare people to drink milk. For healthy bones you need protein and a pH balanced diet.
Milk also has casein which forms glue/mucus in the body, and cancer promoting growth hormones. Casein when digested converts into another protein that induces schizophrenic, austistic behaviour in laboratory animals.
Cows milk is also the leading cause of osteoperosis, acne and irritable bowel syndrome in the world

Sometimes advocates lose their objectivity as seems to be the case here. The negative impact of meat can be countered by adding appropriate amounts of fruits, vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and micronutrients. Most meat eaters on western diets fail to do this.
So i can eat nuts, spinache and beans the rest of my life. I would rather die. Oh wait that was going to happen any way.

Calcium seems to be the hardest thing to get. Do our bodies really need that much though? The dairy industry recommends 1,300 mg which “coincidentally” equals 3 cups of cow milk. What is we eat only plants like a variety of whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, and veggies? Can I just count on my plant-based diet to take care of my whole calcium needs? All nutrients are so easy to get, even b-12 bc it’s fortified now. So sorry my question is long. But if I live on a plant based diet with variety, can I just kinda wing it or should I be save and take vegan calcium supplements?
