I have a bad reaction to chocolate. Doctors have been no help, they basically deny that I have an allergy or reaction and blame it on the caffeine. I think it might be the theobromine? My heart rate speeds up and sometimes goes into an irregular heartbeat, and I feel like I am gasping for breath, a feeling of hot flashes, feel nauseous and can get stomach cramping. It lasts for hours.
You should mention that chocolate on it’s own in small amounts is okay…however nobody has a small amount of chocolate I guarantee everyone eats more than the recommended daily dose. Now combine that with the consumption of tea/coffee…I was drinking 2 tea’s a day and eating 4-6 chocolates I got theobromine poisoning and almost died plus the effects of caffeine on my heart was unbearable felt like extreme anxiety when I just had fast heart rate. You should never eat chocolate everyday and if you do don’t eat it with tea or coffee or any other source of theobromine/caffeine…and don’t eat more than the daily recommended amount.

I just saw, that today people are sniffing cacao as replacement for cocaine etc. and me myself find, upon ingesting in mouth raw cacao, that it is really stimulavtive as blooduptake directly in mouth, nose and other such mocus membranes allows the active ingredients not to be broken down in the liver as otherwise would happen if merely eating it.

There are multiple adenosine receptor subtypes in CNS caffeine is an antagonist of these receptors which block them like you said. HOWEVER adenosine would activate these receptors, not block them like you were saying. adenosine receptor activation, specifically 1 and 2a subtypes (as per wiki, I dont walk around carrying specifics on subtypes of adenosine receptors in my head) is thought to increase fatigue. So antagonising these receptors via xanthine derivitives reduces this fatigue, like you were saying.
I think you just mis-worded how adenosine works.

WARNING: I am an adult male and have been taking this for almost a year. 1 medium to large mug, 2/5 coffee, 3/5 milk, 1 tea spoon of raw cacao powder, and I developed pain in my left chest. sometimes even shooting pain from my chest to elbow or index finger/thumb. This went on for a while and took a break from coffee. Started up again and later found out that it was the cacao.

The truth is that the benefits do not outweigh the negatives. Cacao is poisonous (the bean, not the fruit which is less common in products). It is bad for the liver, can lower life span, and has lead to heart failure.
The Mayans used this for medical reasons and also did not consume this regularly. I imagine for good reason. Even if it is just a tea spoon. I assume some people are more tolerant, but it’s still bad. All of a sudden the processed stuff is starting to sound better, but only as a treat.
From my experience with cacao powder I learned you have to eat it 10 hours before going to sleep in order for the therobromine to get out of your blood stream. I consumed the cacao powder it in the afternoon and evening and after two weeks I was exhausted and could barely stay awake during the day. Once I researched it and found the theobromine issue I added cacao to my breakfast, drinking it or adding it to oatmeal, and I began to sleep well again. So…you really have to have cacao or dark chocolate before noon to prevent it from really messing up your sleep patterns and making you miserable.

Guys: cacao is a seed, a fruit ok? Raw cacao so is the seed, the “bean” that can be eat without his husk (cacao nibs f.e.). Cocoa powder is the result of a large industrial process, and do not contain cocoa butter anymore. So, cocoa powder has less fat, but also less antioxidants, less fibre and minerals then the “cacao nibs or cacao beans”.
I suggest you to read this article, from the International Cocoa Organization, not Wikipedia. Please, focus on the STEP 8 of this article. Now you know that, cocoa powder is the result a large industrial process. Raw cacao is the bean, the seed or the nib.

coffee is clean energy. what ppl seem to forget is that they say sugar is bad thats in candy. But thats not sugar. Its a false claim. High fructose corn syrup is what in the candy bars and sodas. If you ever have real sugar in a soda, which you can grab the mexican glass coca colas, and see it has real sugar in your local grocery store. It wont even hurt your teeth. Coffee is natural, if you get organic coffee. But then its what you put in it. Try with mct oil and stevia, and a tablespoon of butter, and you can even add the cacao. Its pretty tasty and completely fine that way. Theyve even found sugar is not what keeps you up at night.

Wow ok… i am very surprised with this video… Ive been to numerous cacao, shamanic ceremonies in Costa rica for example. My friends are permaculture master specialized in cacao. They say cacao is medicinal, highly sacred over there, opens the heart, they said it is the blood of Mother earth in traditional shamanic lineage. They bath their babies when they born in cacao and also after people die… I have bits of adrenal fatigue but cacao just always helps me with everything. I have the best cacao quality, its raw cacao nuts melted in rock for 24 hours, all the medecine is in the fat… so… maybe there is more to the picture? for sure, i always listen to your videos and agree with everything normally, i know youre coming from somewhere legitimate but i just cant stop eating cacao, it helped me transition from coffee so this one is really hard to swallow:( But i guess you mean it in a sense not to overdose it… i only consume 1 tbsp a day but feel fine the days i skip it

I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and rather than losing weight, I need the nutrients, deal with chronic fatigue and am a bit sensitive to coffee!

I always buy Organic Cocoa powder. But, thanks to you I am switching to organic raw cacao! And yes, I do sweeten it with organic raw honey, organic coconut palm sugar and/or organic stevia.

Secondly: what is the definition of Raw? There is not a standard or a legal document written by nobody…is it the temperature? I tell you something, during the process of making cocoa powder, the temperature surpasses 118 F for sure, Now, what about the safety, to get cocoa powder or cacao powder, the beans go through a long process in not sterilized environments, so, the roasting is the bacteria-killing step, keep safe, don’t eat if you are not sure what the process is…Also, the roasting is the best, because it triggers all the aroma and flavor of the cacao. Do you think you get more nutrients and health benefits? Wrong, there is not a standard and actually to measure that is really, really hard with nowadays science…So, please research more and do get confused!

What I have done is gotten some cheap baking cocoa and added that to a mug with some heavy cream and or almond milk with some stevia for sweetness. I liked your comments hammering the bad side of sugar and milk. However you pointed out that coco is heated and loses some nutrition. So much more nutrition is lost by heating the cacao butter. What kind of fat is cacao butter? Is it like coconut a water soluble saturated fat? Please advise. Why not just chew on the cacao beans to get the nutrition first hand?

I’ve loved chocolate since I was a kid, but boy oh boy, does it ever give me a negative reaction! It makes me feel like I’m on edge, actually. Sometimes I get a little headache or feel jittery, while at the same time I’m also feeling euphoric and silly, like laughing a lot! I avoid it overall. I really like carob, though I haven’t been eating it either, mostly because it’s not as ubiquitous as chocolate. I’ve been researching it, and supposedly carob Is much healthier for you. Especially if you get the whole pod, or find raw organic carob powder. But I’m curious what you think about it!

Thank you. I try to avoid all chocolate ( though I do love it), mostly because processed chocolate gives me severe headaches. Years ago my husband would give me a box on Valentines day (when dating ha ha)… anyway, I always got sick after!!! So, if I do have any, always dark organic…But generally rarely ever eat.
I was buying my cacao from David Wolfes site longevitywarehouse.com for years because I really trust him. But they have bad customer service and shipping is so high. I don’t think they even have an office phone number anymore. It’s been impossible to get ahold of anyone from the company for help. I now question the product quality too… looking for other options. Any ideas? David Wolfe suggests his cacao is the purest on the market. Any other brands with good quality? Raw and organic.

I used to really love dark chocolate. But the last couple of years I noticed that for some reason it is making me sick. Every time I eat dark chocolate, even if it is a small amout, it makes me feel nauseous and I have vertigo. So I just don’t eat it any more.

Im a bit addicted to chocolate, if thats a bar or cacao powder with plant milk or even in cooking. I loved it since I was a kid and its kinda hard to go away from it. That said, I am aware that it not the healthiest if not taken in moderation. I believe having a bit now and then won’t harm, we also need to enjoy the little pleasures that life has offered us. I love fruit, but…it’s not chocolate…hard to compare. Thx Peggy for your input…keep it up!
I have tried organic cacao and I dont like its better taste in my smoothie..I bought some dutched process cocoa powder and the taste is much better, but I have heard that organic cacau is more nutritious than dutched process..so I am a bit in doubt about that..

Watching this video gave me insight into what is really happening to me. I have found that I love the way I feel when I drink a raw cacao drink in the mornings. However, when I have symptoms of pms or pmdd, it’s best I stay away from it. It increases my irritability and anger.

I used to be so addicted to chocolate, but since going WFPB, I’ve eliminated chocolate from my diet and haven’t even attempted raw cacao because I know how addicting it can be.
