I’m a recreational judo player. I take lots from the Delgado training vids. Obviously I’m.not going to train like she does: she’s a world class athlete; I’m a 54 year old who does judo once a week and hits the gym twice a week. But I’m trying to adapt what I see Phil do with her into two full body sessions a week, one max, one repetition.
If I’m getting this correctly, these are exercises to use in place of O-lifts to use for athletes without the technical or joint prerequisites to perform them.

Trap bar squat jump to work that RFD (not sure what O-lift that may be replacing)

Phil Daru. I started doing heavy lifting a while ago. I was doing incline dumbell presses at 90% of 1rm 5 x 5 but I started to get slower even though i was pushing it at half punch speed ( so pretty fast) and I’m always stretching my arms. I don’t understand how all these athletes get faster from lifting heavy. What am I doing wrong? Because I did a trial and error and I found that my speed didn’t decrease when I used fedors lifting style. To punch with a barbell as fast as possible (10-20% of my 1rm) medicine ball throws and fast pushups also helped but not as much as fast weights

I have a question: What do you think of oscillatory work (in both advantaged + disadvantaged positions), especially for grappling sports? I know you recently did a video on strength endurance and lactate retention where you seemed to be using oscillatory work but also in conjunction with isometric work for lactate retention. I was wondering if there are scenarios where you would prescribe oscillatory work on its own (maybe in situations where the need for lactate buffering capability isn’t as great?) to focus more on the strength endurance aspect.

I could do a 19 inches-high standing vertical but now on my 2nd day with the program, I had been able to attain Twenty three inches! Hamstrings are sore but its my rest day and then I am back on the grind tomorrow getting started on the shock stage!
