Thank you so much, I’ve been going through a lot recently and this helped calm my nerves greatly!
Thanks for this. I will try this next time I climb the stairs. I have a lot of trouble on stairs because of bronchiectasis and chronic asthma. I hope this works for me. I also think that anyone who has this problem should be exercising their leg muscles as weak leg muscles and glutes can also make it harder to go up stairs.
How can you get some peace of mind if you are breathing at a rate of 15 breaths a minute?
I start walking at 10 breaths per minute, after a minute go to 8 breaths a minute, and as long as it is flat or downhill, go to 6 breaths per minute. Any uphill at all requires this to then increase to 8 bpm, a 7% grade for me would require 10 bpm. Breathing continuously at 15 bpm would be at least a 10% grade. For really steep, you may need 20 bpm
As an example, at 6 bpm, you would breath in for six steps, hold for four steps, breath out for six steps and hold for another four steps. 8 bpm requires a 6/2/6/2 pattern, 10 bpm 4/2/4/2, 15bpm, as demonstrated here is 4/4 and 20bpm would be 3/3
Buddhist Mantras, or similar, are great things to mentally recite when you are walking to help do this
But surely you would be hyper ventilating at 15 on the flat

Relaxation Techniques for Stress Relief
To adequately battle pressure, you have to actuate your body’s regular unwinding reaction. Methods, for example, profound breathing, representation, contemplation, and yoga can help.

This breathing techniques actually works better for me when I exhale through my mouth. Inhaling and exhaling through the nose only is a little restrictive, IMO.

You’re life is a mess and you can’t handle your stress? Just breathe and all of your problems will disappear
Normally, my “in” breath is much longer than my “out” breath. Got to change this.
I suffer from chronic stress and anxiety and also some heart issues. I’m going to be giving this a try. How often should I be doing this? I have been told daily. But do you recommend several times a day?

apparently stress causes acne so If I reduce it than maybe, just maybe my skin might clear up before school starts
Breathwalk has become a part of my walks. Can you suggest a music tape that uses a 4 count base that could be used with my walks?
Thank you so much, these exercises helped and your aura is very relaxing and peaceful!
I get lightheaded if I breath that fast. Too much oxygen is can cause that.
Can’t even walk up my stairs at home which is just 15 steps without being out of breath
Totally unrelated to breathing, but I wanted to thank you for your videos Michelle. After my hysterectomy in 2018, your videos on getting out of bed, using the bathroom, breathing and so much more, made my life more bearable during recovery.
Don’t ever stop posting, your guidance is invaluable.

Hey i cant exhale for 8 sec my exhale is getting over on 4 sec why?
Thank you for this post featuring Dr. Jim Nicolai…. to go deeper one may read “Breathwalk: Breathing Your Way to a Revitalized Body, Mind and Spirit” by Gurucharan Singh Khalsa and Yogi Bhajan. In my experience and teaching I’ve modified the 4 count form to reflect a non-western, aboriginal space/time…in African drumming etc there is no 4 count 4/4 time or 3 count 3/4 time. We are all born naturally rhythmical, naturally as aboriginal. Untampered with MindBody knows.
thanks for the video. You look like a happy version of Abby from the last of us:)
Mam I have gastric problem.plz give some solutions plz help me mam.

It’s really hard for me because I hide it I don’t show it to people even myself I keep thinking that I’m just acting like that just because, but when it hits it HITS me hard and when that happens I bump my body onto something else just to calm myself down. I do hope this will help me.
Good morning or good evening better show us by vidio how to do that

In second technique do we need to inhale the air in chest or in belly bit confused. First one I just tried really fantastic. Much more effective then a anxiety tab.

Thank you. my friend has anxiety attacks so this was SUPER helpful. I subbed so i can show her more of these vids to help her.
Thanks doctor Jo! Your video always helps me a lot! Could you provide some relaxation exercises for PTSD?
Thanks for this Doug, I like how you gave just the basics of the practice that you can just implement right away, the book goes into alot of detail and includes like 4 other steps to the whole practice. I was looking for the mp3’s that were put out by the writers but apparently they are no longer around. trying to learn the exercises they give (awakeners) complicates the whole practice, I would like to skip the preliminaries and just add the breathing to the walks if possible. I’m going to try doing this and see what happens then if I have time I will add in the other parts. The breathwalking book itsels though is really awesome. its becoming my second favorite breathwork book. my first being prana and pranayama by swami niranjanananda saraswati. thanks again for the walk through.
