Best Low-Carb Mexican Food Choices When Dining Out Breakfast. The type of Mexican restaurant you visit may determine the type of selections offered on the breakfast menu. Appetizers.

Burgers. When it comes to burgers, it’s a no-brainer. Burgers ar easy to make low carb if you pick the right place. Both In-N-Out and Five Guys does the job.
Today we are discussing low-carb Mexican food options when you are dining out or eating at home. You might think that one of the downsides to eating low carb is you can never eat Mexican food again. Now when we talk about Mexican food the first things that come to mind are tortillas, tacos, Mexican.Most places will do this, but if they don’t, skip the bun and ask for extra veggies.
Enjoy low carb vegetable toppings like pickles, onions, grilled onions, lettuce and tomatoes. Top with mustard. Mayonnaise, guac and bacon are also low in carbs, and there’s hardly any carbs in cheese.

As for places with wings, make sure to look up their macros. Pizza Hut’s traditional wings, for example, if you get mild sauce, it has quite a few carbs, but garlic parmesan, or naked does not. They like to sneak those carbs in.:)
I cannot bend on the salad vinaigrette; it is sooo good. Glad to know about the burrito tortilla, though. That is not worth 300 calories!
Ha! I knew it. I learned years ago that the tortilla is hands down the worst thing to get at Chipotle if you are trying to control calorie intake. Of course I can’t eat a whole one anyway. Occasionally I will treat myself to the burrito and it is two meals which helps.
No wonder that dressing tastes so good. I don’t really worry about calculating macros anymore. My stomach is so small these days I find it better to get higher fat items and skip the starch. Since I also use salsas as dressing I just use a little of it anyway because it gives a great tang. And yeah, one bowl is ALWAYS two meals for me and I usually wind up throwing out part of it.
Subway offers Chopped Salads. I like to order a Subway Club (turkey, ham & roast beef with provolone or Swiss) chopped salad. They build it in front of you and you pick everything that goes into it.

Tomatillo Red Salsa

Cheese
Sour Cream

The refined bowl is the one I eat every time. I just get heavy lettuce and light black bean.
You need to check out Keto connect here on Facebook they make keto friendly Indian food. And we like to go to a Mongolian Grill buffet type Asian food place. Than you can pick your protein and veggies and sauce and they cook it for you right there. Another good fast food is the blackened chicken at Popeyes.

Dear lord…not everything is about calories. If something is tasty and nutritious, eat it. Simple as that. You can choose sour cream, cheese, guac etc. as sides, and use as much as is necessary for you. That bowl has a lot of food, and is v. filling, so you can even split it into two meals. She’s more concerned about the carbs in salsa than the ones in cinnamon rolls lol…
I used to think it was basically impossible to eat out doing low carb… my boyfriend works out of town and has to eat out for almost every meal. I appreciate your positivity so much!!! You make it sound SO easy to make better choices!!!

For taco bell, you can do:
2 sides of steak, 2 sides of chicken, 3-4 sides lettuce, side of cheese, maybe sour cream and ask for a big bowl and make a salad for around $5!!! Its delicious and I use hot sauce for salad dressing:)
Dude the amount of people that come in and get chicken blows my mind. Only because I’m currently working there the chicken comes pre seasoned, and is breast. The streak we season it ourselves. Chicken is so overrated in my opinion.

I fully believe you can watch this video and once you step foot into Chipotle you’re still loading it up because it basically costs the same and a full sized meal is better for your money’s worth that will keep you full for a longer period of time. If you need to worry about sodium and carbs don’t eat fast food to begin with stock pile on stuff from the grocery store to portion meals yourself

1. Healthly does not mean low calorie, nor does low fat means its healthly
2. Nice job with not putting the total macros, and putting fat, further perpetuating the idea fat is bad( yes, believe it or not, all the info you put is taken in). Fat is needed for joint health and test levels in men.
3. Chicken and steak DO NOT,from said nutrition info, have the same macros, i would very much choose chicken for the boosted protein i get per serving. Again, LOW CALORIE DOESNT MEAN HEALTHY.

If your body has been in ketosis for a long time, it will only take about 4 days to get back in ketosis ( Not two weeks)
For the past 2 months, I have been eating healthy, exercising and adopting a healthier lifestyle. I am making slow but good progress (down 11 pounds). I have feared and avoided eating out. I found myself out at lunch one day and near Chipotle. I remembered this video and ordered a delicious burrito bowl with nutrient-rich foods. I was surprised how filling that 440 calorie lunch was. Did not miss the cheese, tortilla, and rice at all.

I keep it simple, no breads, rice, pastas, grains, fruits, dairy. I don’t really obsess over the sugars in sauces etc. That can drive you crazy.

Is it ok to use plain Coffeemate in coffee? The label says it’s 2 gm of carbs. I’m a COMPLETE beginner and that little bit of Coffeemate in the morning is my thing. Lol

I work at chipotle and eat it about 4-5 times a week. To keep the sodium down you can ask for plain brown rice and plain tomatoes which both have no salt! It’s a great way to help.

Being desi, I can tell you most curries are made from tomatoes and onions, like all of the vegetable curries, minced beef qeema, etc. Quorma especially has lots of onions in it so definitely avoid its gravy. But a good vegetarian option to have is mixed veges/bhaaji, just leave out the potatoes. I am a carnivore, I like my meat, so I love to have chicken seekh kabaabs/ chicken malayi boti which is chicken bar be cue after being marinated in full fat cream. If you want a gravy dish, go for chicken haandi. It’s chicken but ts gravy is made out of thick cream, and full fat yogurt.
I don’t eat out much either, but I was on a road trip recently and stopped at a McD’s that had the self-serve touch screen kiosks to order at. I forget how many item choices there are. They tend to keep their menu board pretty simple to help make ordering fast and easy. But I noticed on the kiosks there were lots of sub-menus to order individual items (I’m sure you always could, but you kind of forget about it). So it listed individual sausage patties, individual eggs, burger patties, etc. Super easy to not clog up the line and get exactly what you want:).
My husband’s chipotle order is probably close to 3000 calories— white rice, double chicken, queen, green salsa, sour cream and cheese.
Red lobster and other seafood places… most stuff is good broiled w no sauces, glazes… just a side of melted butter. Sides = salads or grilled veggied

Moe’s is my absolute favorite place! I can get a 10-inch burrito with steak, pinto beans, diced tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled green peppers, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream for just 427 calories! It also has 29 grams of protein! 670 milligrams of sodium, which I personally don’t think is too bad as I only drink water – and a lot of it.

I would also add that pretty much every restaurant has a green salad topped with a grilled protein…one of my favorite choices. Sometimes you have to pick out the croutons or the tortilla strips, but otherwise pretty reliably keto-friendly. And one of the easiest restaurants to get keto-friendly food is a seafood restaurant! Brazilian steakhouses are great too!

I love the keto diet because as someone who has been allergic to gluten for about half of my life I am already pretty used to eating like that. Almost all of the keto recipes that I find are gluten free.
A nice 7 oz filet mignon with a side of steamed broccoli is a perfect keto meal at a restaurant.
If you cut back on ingredients, do you still pay the same price but get less food?
At McDonald’s or Wendy’s off and you can ask for something like a cheap bacon cheeseburger without the bun wrapped in lettuce and just do a couple of those. One of my favorites if I go to a restaurant that serving breakfast, which Sumter 24 hours a day, I’ll get an all meat and cheese omelette.
You touched on one of my pet peeves eating at a restaurant. Awesome things come as a meal and if you make any substitutions even if it’s trading out a less expensive item for more expensive item you don’t want they will charge you extra. It’s aggravating when you end up paying 15 $16 for a hamburger patty a slice of cheese and some lettuce. If I know they’re going to do this at Advance I go ahead and make them bring me everything. Somebody else can eat it or I’ll feed the pigeons.

The chicken is healthier actually because its lower in calories but has 32 grams protien to only 21 for the steak. Dont let the calories fool you, if you look at the break down they give there and u understand what ur reading you will realise that if you add up all the marco ingredients(carbs, fats, proteins) that portion for some odd reason is bigger for the chicken than the other dishes( could be a mistake on the website). So yes it’s more calories but those calories come mainly from protien and the portion size is much bigger, In the end the chicken is still the leaner choice and healthier for overall muscle development if that’s what ur after.
I looked up Carrabba’s Italian restaurant nutrition recently and got scared when I saw how many carbs most if their items have.

The only thing with buffalo wings at a restaurant is the oil in which they were cooked. Because even high quality restaurants probably cook their wings in peanut oil or vegetable oil.
Buffalo Wings were my vice, the number of times I’d go for them at any restaurant. Now, I try to have them occasionally for that reason.
Vegetable oil aren’t atrocious if had occasionally, but it shouldn’t be the majority. It should be the exception.
Has anyone found out if restaurants have problems with those oils? I imagine most restaurant food is cooked in vegetable oil but I could be wrong…

Just stumbled across your channel. I work in a pizza restaurant, and the bone-in wings are my go to if I don’t have time to eat my famous egg and spinach bowl (so good!). Be careful with a lot of sauces for the wings due to added sugar. Pizza sauce also has a lot of sugar, but wings and a salad bar, why not. Good recommendations!
Going to an Asian restaurant does sound tough. Even if you avoid sugar/carbs…where do you get a fat source? I have to go to one soon for a social dinner
I also think the best thing about chipotle is even if I’m getting a 1000 calorie bowl (which checking it out now, I only do about 700 calories) I NEVER eat a whole bowl at once. That usually my lunch/dinner. You get a hell of a lot of food at chipotle for the price, and it’s usually a meal and a half or two.

The best place to eat out on a keto diet is a Brazilian steakhouse. Their salad bars go on forever, so you can stock up on a lot of keto friendly greens and cheeses. And then there’s the meat, of course. Every meat you could possibly imagine carved table side, and they just keep bringing you meat until you tell them to stop. It’s a keto dieter’s paradise!

You don’t count calories on keto and you don’t worry about how much butter and fat. 75 to 80% of your diet is fat.

Denny’s, IHOP, Bob Evans, other breakfast places, go for the omelette or fried eggs and leave off the carb sides. Ask for sliced tomato or something.
You should not eat a low fat or low salt diet. You are promoting some lies from the medical establishment. And no I’m not attacking you. I’m just correcting some wrong info you’re providing. You only need to avoid bad fats, but should eat healthy fats. And your body needs salt and you shouldn’t avoid salt.

I only went to one restaurant in the last 2 months on my keto weight-loss journey, and it was a disaster. It was a sushi restaurant with my mom. I only ordered sashimi 1 serving of salmon and 1 serving of tuna. I asked for side of avocado slices too. Since I was going on the train for 5 hours back to Toronto that day, I pretty much figured that was the only meal I was going to have that day, so calorie/macros didn’t really matter that much, and these selections weren’t going to undo my diet.
First thing, I ordered my food separately and told her, on doctors orders, I must avoid sugar, grains and processed vegetable oils. Before the sashimi even arrived, the waitress brings out tempura appetizers, which upset me because I didn’t order them, so I just left mine at the edge of the table until the waitress took them back (although my mom ate half of them, despite being on keto too:/). I reminded the waitress I don’t eat processed vegetable oils and grains. The waitress later comes back with our food and the chef combined and mixed my order with my moms, so all of the sashimi was mixed in with everything else she ordered the sashimi sampler for $16, but the chef seemed to separate the salmon and tuna in such a way to give her more than half of the total sashimi despite me ordering $40 worth:/ Then the waitress came with some more ‘free’ nigiri with heavy sugary sauces drenched on them, and again, I immediately told the waitress, “I can’t have these!” I was so flipping mad. I understand it’s free food, but there’s nothing worse than getting something for free and you are restricted to not being able to enjoy it, especially when you told her like 3 freaking times you can’t have them.
And of course, despite my mom eating all of the free food, her rolls, she also had half of the sashimi too. I was so fucking hungry on the damn train (And I hadn’t eaten since 4pm the day before too, arriving in Toronto at 7pm). I don’t mind fasting, but I hate being forced into it after having paid $40 for lunch. Never again. My Ultimate Restaurant Guide? Just don’t go:/ I have no idea what I’m going to do when I start dating again after I lose the weight.
You shouldn’t order food that you know your not supposed to have, what a waste. That’s not the restaurant’s fault, that’s your fault.
Ally I admire your intention to help people (like my yoga teachers) and to show how it is feasible for every budget. Do you have a Costco instead of Walmart shopping video? I think you can get better and healthier food for about the same budget. With gratitude.
No I won’t be weighing everything on the gram scale even though I have one. I will be doing the kickstarter 3 months program two big meals a day whatever you want limit vegetables or have none. High-fat high-protein. Also either smart water or my homemade brewed green tea and electrolyte drops because my electrolytes get screwy real fast and then I get heat stroke.

I didn’t think eating keto is about calories but about eating fat and no carbs and no sugar. My brain tells me I’m full real soon so I don’t worry about calories. I do want to always watch the carb and fat. But I haven’t started yet so correct me if I need the change of thought so I can have success too. I’ve listened to many Keto peeps on YouTube and I get confused. Your vegetable oil is made from corn mostly. Some on Keto say not to use it.
I get the kids meals all the tome at chipotle! My husband laughs at me.
Some places add carbs to the meat items, so look up their menus online to check the carb contents, in case you are using a Keto macro and are limited on carb intake for the day.
At Taco Bell I get a taco salad no beans and extra lettuce. I eat everything except the shell and give that to my dog. (Every body is happy!!!)

Buffalo Wild Wings is my jam on keto. Salt and vinegar wings with side of celery and ranch. Put some football on the tv and i’m golden. Great job with the channel!
We don’t have Chick-fil-A here but we do have a pizza place that has a cauliflower crust. It’s better than nothing when it comes to Pizza it is crispy and serves well as a vehicle for the toppings. At a restaurant I have always been able to make a good meal for me appetizers and or the sides. I don’t mind asking 20 questions to find out what’s in things. More and more restaurants are listing the cops and the hospital I was shocked to see the menu with the carbs next to each item. Steak and creamed spinach! Every Steakhouse I have been to and asked about the creamed spinach it’s cream a little onion nutmeg salt and pepper and spinach. I love on the border for the a table side guacamole it’s sort of expensive for me but I love it and I can see what they’re putting in. I always say I’d like a tableside guac with no chips.:-) I make yummy stuffed mushrooms and one of the local grocery stores makes stuffed mushrooms and one of them is keto friendly they make two different types. Asian restaurants are happy to use just soy sauce and that’s really how they eat at home. My fiance du jour is Chinese and lives in China where it is 82 degrees in the winter! But he’s a good guy and he makes good money in the electronics field and he loves me. Indian is easy to read that! Just like an Asian restaurant Indian restaurants have wonderful hospitality and the owner may even tell you what’s in the sauce I had one owner bring me into the kitchen to watch the sauce made for somebody else. That was fun! I know a woman in the South who makes eggplant cobbler. She uses sweetener and it’s not something I can really have but I have adapted it with coconut flour.
I’m eating out at a Greek restaurant tomorrow night. Now, I know what to order! Thank you Ally for all the GREAT tips!

I used to work at Carino’s (Johnny Carino’s) Italian. I love getting the Chicken Primavera with no pasta, extra veggies and the pecan chicken. Sometimes I get it with the pesto, or Alfredo, sometimes both. It’s delicious.
Taco Bell does have taco salad. It comes in a deep fried taco bowl, with rice, refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, taco sauce, sour cream and some kind of red chips that you can sprinkle on. Kind of a PITA, for keto, but they have it.
Lol the only thing I get at Chipotle is double wrapped burritos…whoops

Once you are fat adapted, you can occasionally enjoy some bad food without any repercussions. I went out for pizza and beer the other night and I lost another pound.

I’ve been binge watching your channel for a few days now I’m planning to start this lifestyle soon as I don’t eat a lot of protein these days ( besides my protein shake in the morning) greasy food makes me very sick any tips on how to gently ease into Keto diet?
Usually when I order steak or any other meat or fish, I’ll ask for just green vegetables. And I will ask, what green vegetables do you offer? I’ve had at different restaurants been offered bok choy, broccoli, rapini, zucchini, spinach or just a salad. Not that hard to get someone want if you ask politely for it. Restaurants will accommodate many diners requests because happy customers are repeat customers.
Actually, the most common order at Chipotle is a burrito bowl, white rice, black beans, chicken, tomato salsa, cheese and lettuce

As someone who orders kids meals all the time at Chipotle (for my kids), it’s not like ordering a regular meal. You only get choice of rice, choice of beans, and choice of meat (or guac as sub for meat). Three specific options, and some places are stricter then others. However this video has me willing to try…I mean when I order tacos, I’m only able to eat 2 anyway.
Half portion of guacamole but paying full price hell naww I’m getting full portion.

I get the kid’s meal tacos. It includes a small portion of chips. I also get a small side order of queso. I eat half of the chips and queso and save the rest. It is high in sodium but cutting down on the portion helps me.
My go to order is White rice chicken little bit of fajita veggies corn lite red sauce lettuce and a side of guacamole
At some restaurants you can ask for loaded broccoli…its yummy and all they do is put sour cream..bacon..n cheese on top of the steamed broccoli

Unpopular opinion but most homemade Guac with minimal effort taste better than chipotle guac. At home you can appropriately spice and season it unlike the bland mush they serve. Also Qdoba’s diablo Queso > Chipotle.
Gonna order some chipotle right now, don’t really care for guac.
I’m am about to start my keto lifestyle. Your videos are the best I’ve come by. I really appreciate them!! I am a stay at home mom of 4 kids and this makes it much less overwhelming for me! One question I have is… I am obsessed with onions…red, yellow & white. Are they ok to eat a lot of in each meal or at least 1 meal?

my chipotle bowls and burritos always last two meals, lunch and dinner (sometimes I can get a snack out of it too!:D)
I love and cook Indian: it’s high carb and high calorie b/c they use oil to roast the spices. Most of the veg are carby except the spinach; and the fried ones are dipped in a batter first; lots of lentils, yogurt; and naan or chappti are wheat breads, the rice which is plentiful. If you are avoiding carbs and/or calories you want to skip most of the dishes.

At Texas Roadhouse, they steam their veggies with lemon butter, but you can ask for them without butter no problem.
