What Science Says About Barefoot/Forefoot Running-Must Know This!
Video taken from the channel: Bob & Brad
Potential Benefits of Barefoot Running:1 May strengthen the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the foot and allow one to develop a more natural gait. By removing the heel lift in most shoes, it will help stretch and strengthen the Achilles tendon and calf muscle which may reduce injuries, such as calf strains or Achilles tendinitis. Not everyone will be comfortable. There is the risk of getting injured by rocks, stones, glass, thorns and nails. Modern roads and pavements are not fit for barefoot running.
Prolonged barefoot running will cause blisters and toughen the skin. Here are 4 pros and cons to running barefoot. Pro #1: It Strengthens Important Areas Shoes advertise their ability to give you ankle support, but nothing works as well as running barefoot.
By removing the shoes, and the lift from the excessive padding, your feet and legs have a chance to strengthen in some very important areas.Pros of barefoot running: It can strengthen feet and reduce injuries. “The benefits from this style are low impact on the heel, thus translating to less loading pressure on the weight-bearing.Other research out of Harvard has demonstrated that the foot-strike pattern associated with barefoot runners is significantly more economical for running, meaning runners use less energy to run the same distances as runners wearing traditional shoes and striking with the heel.
The arch of your foot has to work harder when running barefoot. It is an elastic yet very strong component of your foot and its structure dissipates force on landing and assists on push-off into.Being the true caveman that you are, working out barefoot may seem like nothing new to you. Yet, there has been plenty of discussion among experts on the relative pros and cons of working sans footwear. Just consider the evidence.
Pros When working out in shoes, the small muscles, tendons and ligaments in your feet can become weaker.Running Barefoot vs. Running in Shoes The big difference is in how your foot strikes the ground. Runners who wear shoes tend to strike the ground with the heels first.Pros of Walking Barefoot You Get Back in Touch Getting close to Mother Nature is one of the best ways to get back in touch with your own body.
It.Cons Of Barefoot Running The above pros are things that many runners want when running, but some will only see the pros and not realize that there are a few cons to barefoot running. Some of the cons are as follows: You will have hardly any foot protection when barefoot running.A 1998 study by a team from Griffith University concluded that barefoot running in loose sand results in pronation occurring earlier and lasting longer with each footfall. This leads to increased pressure on both the ankle and knee joints, which, in turn, could potentially result in.
THE PROS OF BAREFOOT RUNNING One of the reasons that barefoot running is considered beneficial is that it allows the foot to follow a more natural movement. The majority of people running in trainers will run with a heel to toe action, whereas those running barefoot will land on the mid-foot or fore-foot first.Barefoot Running encoureges a more upright position, shorter strides, and a faster cadence are all pros of running barefoot. 5.Barefoot Running Improves your posture When we bring together some just some or the point mentioned above one of the resultant benefits is a vast improvement of posture. Have you ever seen someone in high heel shoes?
Pros of barefoot running There is no conclusive scientific evidence showing that the use of modern sport shoes and orthotics has diminished the number of injuries in runners. Some claim that, on the contrary, shoes when used without care can cause problems for runners.Pros One of the main arguments for barefoot and minimalist shoe running is that the support and cushioning that modern running shoes provide have caused our feet to become lazy.
Running with little or no support can therefore help to strengthen the intrinsic muscles, tendons and ligaments of the foot.

Bob and Brads methods freed my frozen shoulder and brought movement and feeling back into my wrist, hand and fingers…before them, nothing worked. Bless these guys, they ars totally amazing. THANK YOU BOB AND BRADxx
I used to always wear boots and now if I use any other shoe my ankles are really weak so I recommend not to wear always the same shoes no matter what. Right now I have been using lots of different hoes and I have been at the beach a lot so I have been barefoot
I’m inspired. I need better posture and I think this could help
I just started wearing barefoot shoes yesterday and I already dig it much more than the typical shoes I’ve worn in the last 20 years of my life. I am a bit concerned about how long they’ll past durability wise.
As an Athletic Trainer, I’ve been transitioning to minimalist shoes, Vivobarefoot specifically, and my feet have never felt stronger. Do you two try to transition patients to walk more naturally or do you have them continue with their normal gait amd focus more on strengthening where they are weak?
Nice video guys. I have been running for the past few years for my school team and enjoy it a lot. I have looked into this a lot already so this was cool to hear about from you guys
agree…..I started wearing vivobarefoot shoes the majority of the time
I can’t find the Irene Davis website with the forefoot running protocol
The human foot is designed to walk in dry fields. No on concert. Or hard surfaces.
Any word on if these can help with medical conditions relating to bone structure in feet?
I hate running or even walking with my heel hitting the ground first. I just feel a shock go all the way up my body right into my teeth. I’ve been walking and running toe first for over 2 years and it feels much better. I also do parkour, so I like the aspect of being silent, which heel first makes impossible. There’s simply more absorption with the the toe first. I definitely do feel a lot more strain on my ankles and top of foot, especially if train hard, but it takes just as long as normal muscle soreness to go away.
Occasional running in short bursts seems natural.
Otherwise, run at your own risk.
these only simulate being barefoot when your not even barefoot at all -_ im a full-time barefooter of 4 years now and its the best decision ive ever made not shopping, dining, or visiting friends, family or any establiments, i dont wear any shoes ever
https://www.barefooters.org/
Barefoot running. Best. Thing. EVER! And I’m talking completely barefoot. No shoes, socks, or any protection. It’s glorious.
I went from not being able to run a mile to being able to run 8 miles. I went from not running at all to running 1,000+ miles in a single year. 500 barefoot. 500 in Xero sandals and Vivobarefoot EVO Pure shoes. Best part… zero pain. No hip or knee pains or anything.
Barefoot does amazing things for my ADHD brain, also.
Oh, and barefoot runners don’t have toughened feet. Their feet are like soft leather.
My first 2 years in the Army I had horrible shin splints that a couple times brought me to tears. I am VERY flat footed and have very wide feet. I switched to a minimalist shoe, I took about a month or 2 of slowly building up my distance in those shoes. And within that time my shin splints completely disappeared.
I prefer running interval sprints barefoot in the park on grass. I have a Morten toe and running in shoes is so painful. When I ran in the military with boots my feet looked like hamburger.
I really always liked these cheap like 9 dollar lake shoes from Walmart I get for just normal like creek bed walking. But I wear them during kung fu training horse stances and cat walks forms training and running and it is like so comfy but I never get foot problems till Im standing in crocks for 5-8 hours dishwashing then my feet hurt. You know whats funny? I got laughed at for picking up off my heels in Phys Ed all through school. I was heavy but running on my toes I can sprint. I can explode into a full sprint because of that and I’ll almost catch a car. cause of that leaning forward on the toe gate. You’re almost floating like those spring shoes.
Hi Bob&Brad, at the end we´d have to walk and run with our four extremities if we review human evolution history, I love to walk with sport shoes, Why Bob, why?, Brad you’re so patient and lovely, one of my friends interrupts me when I’m talking, frequently, and that’s very annoying. Loves to both of you
I adapted very quickly to forefoot running in Vibram 5-finger shoes, but I hadn’t really been much of a runner before that so I didn’t have a strong heel-strike habit to overcome.
the “minimalistic shoes” that costs times than my current 3 pairs of shoes combined. no thanks.
I have a 3 year old grand-daughter that runs/walks around on her toes all day. Is this dangerous to her feet bones? We keep reminding her…flat feet! But she keeps raising her feet.
Without adequate instruction in how to run barefooted, people may run nothing like what is normal in barefoot, IF the study is beeing finansed by fx. NIKE…!
Allso, studies to be evaluated need to be observed how finansed, conducted, etc. And just because nobody have found fundings for conducting a valid study, it does not mean it is not good to run as we were made to move, IF people learn how to move that way, cause as other beeing with four limbs or even the ones who walk on two, then no other beeings walk flatfooted as all humans who set down heel in walking does.
1:38 No. Just no. Your parents and or grandparents wearing shoes does not in any way effect the way that your feet develop on a genetic level.
But if there is barely anything they are made of why are they so expensive? LOL
Are these shoes safe to wear in a city like NY? If glass or other material is stepped on?
Paint all roads white so earth absorbs less heat..boom global warming fixed?!
Barefoot running is not the same as running in minimalist shoes (even the five finger shoes). There’s been so much talk about up-down impact (which is good) that the torsion of your soles has gone largely undiscussed. If you run barefoot the same way you run with any protective layer over your foot, you’re going to find yourself tearing the bottoms of your feet up due to the torsion you put on the mid-foot and up to the balls of your feet. While minimalist running is a good option, it’s still not going to replicate bare feet as your contact with the ground is still muted, it’s just a lighter cast, but it’s still a cast.
The problem is how to make security shoes that have the same benefits
Dangerous title, most people should not run barefoot they’ll hurt themselves unlesss they really ease into it. Foot injury waiting to happen.
Try Altra. Zero drop, foot shaped with wide toe box that allows the toes to spread out.
I want London Real to interview runners from the Raramuri and Tarahumara Indian. They run barefoot
I have been hiking and running across mountainous Terrain barefoot once a week for 3ish hours at a time. And the way we run naturally is so different from the way we Learn to Run in shoes and i really found that several parts of my body weren’t strong enough to do it properly in the beginning. My feet took some time to thicken up enough to handle running across rocky Terrain but more than that my ankles and the tendons in my calves really hurt but that went away fairly quickly then it was the outside of my hips that started hurting once my feet could handel longer more difficult hikes it felt like the muscle that holds my hip in place wasn’t strong enough but after afue weeks that went away and i havent really had any issue’s sense. Feels way easyer on my knees and provents me from jumping off of rocks that are to high lol
Just did 10 miles barefoot and I got myself some bitches of blisters down there. If you’re thinking about it; maybe it helps to first walk without shoes a few times for your feet to get acquainted a little bit. Just do a short round too. You may not get the most out of the exercise, but at least your stroller will be fine the next day to do another round. Also; asphalt is your enemy now, avoid it as most as possible.
I love it! Why Bob why? Let Brad have his moment. Speaking of being bear foot! Is there physical therapy for someone who has bone spurs in the heels and wants to continue to run?
“Bare” with me. Such a dad joke. Making dad jokes without children makes you a “pho-pa”
I have gone barefoot as much as possible since I was a kid..and now I’m 37…bought my first pair of Vibram toe shoes back in 2011…LOVE THEM…just gotta get another pair..but they lasted me 5 years…taped up…used show goo…and STILL felt GREAT!!!..I’m a Martial Artist and do lots of running combined with other exercises…and STILL do well for me…GREAT VIDEO!!!
I remember in high school the fastest guy would tell people his secret was leaning forward and fighters would say to be on the balls of your feet for more mobility. Now im no runner but i swear i beat a soccer player in a sprint going across our football field just leaning forward and being on the balls of my feet. Changed my mind a) because i felt so light and b) because i somehow won. Now im not saying it made me master but i sure as hell felt faster and as described in the video i felt it all in my calves later.
Anyway thanks for reading my long comment. Cheers.
You can still use running shoes with thick heal, just land on your toes or the ball of your feet. The shape of the shoe has never changed how i run.
Dysfunctional feet = Dysfunctional body.
It is not a good advice recommending to go barefoot before addressing all the issues related to foot function firstly and secondly take care of the other physical issues.
Currently I am researching about foot health and benefits of going barefoot/minimal foot wear vs modern shod.
Do you know about the Foot Collective people and their approach to fitness?
I started running when I was 15 (back in the days when they rarely told you about protecting your knees or any other joints, until it got so painful that you could hardly walk) and I switched over to racewalking when I was 46 so I could distribute my weight more evenly. I began using muscles that usually got ignored and much more of my upper body. Going barefoot around here always makes me squeanish, but I generally look for a shoe with a flat heel and then put a cushion under the ball of my foot, because there is more emphasis on the forefoot than the heel area. Lately I’ve had some tendonitis woes and have to try to patiently wait for that all to get better, but in my normal walking I have noticed that if I focus more on leaning forward a bit and using my quads more, it is a lot more comfortable. It took me at least two years to fully make a switch and get good at it. I am sure Bob just needed to warm up and then he could easily balance on his forefoot. And I also practice yoga, which is how I can be so flexible at 55. I tend to do a lot of it in the privacy of my own apartment along with a yoga routine on the Internet, but I have found some great stretches to target the legs. Hips as well, although so much of it emphasizes the outer hip, and it is just as important to have mobility on the inside of the hip. Otherwise, I end up with tight adductors and they in turn pull on the tendons in my knees. It’s fascinating how the human body is all connected.
Have you looked at different minimalist shoes, not just the ones with separate toes? My PT is recommending a Merrell shoe.
ehhh vibrams look really sweaty and uncomfortable. just run pure barefoot
This was a good video man. I’m glad you went with the Barefoot Style. I do a lot of things barefoot. I even cut grass, ride bikes, all that Barefoot to. I use the five finger toe shoes. I have big very very wide feet sz13 4 EEEE WITH fat wide toe. I don’t know if being Barefooted all the time made my foot this wide. They say you build muscles in your toes doing this. Question? Is that the normal width of your foot and toes or did your toes just recently stopped to get wide. From the Second toe they looks a little wide. My toe are just a little wider than your second toe is. my toes been like that all my life growing up. My feet are so wide they are wider than the straps on flip flops. I have to fight to put my flip flops on my feet because it’s so wide. Good video man keep up the good work.
Why do people do these reviews? Start with porno music that goes throughout. All me, me, me. Just self absorbed supity.
Or just don’t wear shoes in your house, an old asian trick to help you go barefoot
Thank you for educating people on this subject. I have transitioned into barefoot or minimalist shoes and I wont go back. I stopped wearing socks for the most part and don’t miss them. My feet feel amazing and my balance is better too. Start out slow in the beginning to get used to building new muscles in the foot. Research being Earth grounded and walking barefoot outside as much as possible also. ❤
Our feet are designed to walk barefoot on uneven surfaces not flat cement.
@cranefactor Question; if one has a dropped arch, and was given orthotics due to that. I assume going to a barefoot shoes would not help without training to have your arch stay up. How does one train the arch to hold it self up?
Brad, you mentioned trying to run barefoot, but thought better of it, I believe because of your age. I had not run at all for over 20 years when at 60, I started (slowly) running totally barefoot. At first it was a walk/run and gradually increased. After 3.5 years, I just ran my first 10k. Except for a minor calf pull about 1 month into it, I’ve been injury free throughout this journey. When on occasion I sense a tight achilles tendon or calf muscle, I take several days off and then start back at a lower mileage. That usually happens after increasing mileage too quickly. Happy Trails… BarefootDan:0)
I just did 5 miles on the asphalt from highland ca to Redlands ca. Man my feet are burnt but it was fun good mental toughness imo
Totally makes sense!! I have been trying to pace out my walking, to a slow run, and my calves and hips feel it the most, causing my decision not to build up into running. Great video guys!!
Every minimalist/barefoot runner says the same thing. No, running shoes do not make you heel strike. Anyone who knows anything about technique knows they are full of it
I want to know your supposed to get used to them before you go running but I did and didn’t get any pain etc but have not worn them for a wile and got x new pair for just casual wearing around everywhere and the second time round I seem to be getting Akes and pain in my quads I have only been walking around the house this time not been running is it normal for that to happen the second time round any advice would be great thanks
I started trail running in minimalist shoes (Merrell Vapor Glove) or just going barefoot several years ago. Now I use them always (if I wear shoes at all), not just for running, and I find “regular” shoes very uncomfortable: too stiff, too cushioned, not enough space for the toes, the heel’s too high, and the arch support is terribly annoying.
Its weird to say but I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for months now and my foot and toe muscles are growing. Now I can run faster and jump much higher because my muscles and ligaments have become stronger and springyer like suspension. Most people thing the pinky toes are useless but I can see when I run they all grip the ground and help launch me forward. I swear you could go from highschool track team to olympic running in just a year if you just took off your shoes!
If you guys are looking for information on getting into barefoot running, check out this site: http://www.thesewisefeet.com. They have excellent information on the best transition shoes for every foot type and every injury.
Joe Rogan you should try some Altra Zero Drop footwear, you feet won’t burn on that pavement but you’ll get all the benefits of barefoot running style
I always walk barefoot at home. My hubby only takes his shoes of for showering and sleeping
Have you heard of correct toes? They kinda go hand in hand with barefoot shoes. As for brands there’s also Lems and xero shoes.
Just bought my first set of minimalist sandals. I’ll never go back to regular sandals again. Now, I’m looking into a minimalist work shoe and/or dress shoe. My feet and leg muscles literally thanked me. I didn’t think my feet could literally speak. Seriously. I love them that much. I think I’ll never go back to regular shoes again.
My strong Colombian coffee turned into a smooth British tea while watching this interview. Great content. Greetings from Colombia South America.
I find the choices you make at your age admiring! It’s truly amazing to see how you’re going for YOUR lifestyle. I myself, happen to be working towards minimalism, it’s fun watching someone’s journey ☕
reminds me of a chainmale sock kickstarter thing I saw once.
No good Noel 2 unproductive even if ur feet toughen up there’s to much down time with cut feet and body wasting energy having to heal etc, just no good Noel.
WALKING & RUNNING BAREFOOT…CONNECTING TO MOTHER EARTH…WHAT SCIENCE HAS GIVEN A FANCY NAME…GROUNDING…THE EARTH LITERALLY SUCKS ALL YOUR DISEASES…ANCIENT WISDOM OF THE VEDAS…HINDU SANATHAN DHARMA…JAI HIND!!! JAI BHARAT!!! NAMASTE!!!
“Wear barefoot shoes they’re the best!” They aren’t affordable in any way tho
I can’t wear shoes more than 3 minutes. Flip-flops 6 7 hours… Adidas, Nike, never. But barefoot it’s my lifestyle!
Not a doctor, shh!
Like if you get it
I ordered the Within barefoot shoes from Amazon to try the barefoot thing, if I will end up liking it I will probably invest in some vivos:)
There’s a reason why man started putting leather soles on his feet. Flint and other stones are unforgiving to even hard skin. Yes it is wonderful to run along the beach on bare feet but to apply this to every day life is nonsense.
I barefoot run on concrete.
It boils down to meditation.
Like walking on coals..
Spiritual Master..
Ran in minimalist shoes almost daily for 13 years and just had to buy a regular pair because of the amount of foot damage that has accumulated over the years, my heels feel fractured and can barely walk a km in minimalist shoes now.
These are my favorite shoes. They’re the only ones I’ve worn in like 6 months.
I’ve been walking barefoot for over 2 years now. I have to say the sole of the vivobarefoot is still way too thick for me. I do wear them when I go to work but I don’t like the stiffness of the shoe. My absolute favorite shoes are these 10 euro swim shoes you can get on amazon. I have them in a tons of different colors and my feet are loving them! The ultimate barefoot feeling. They do kinda look like socks, so when I go shopping I usually put socks on(so people realize they’re shoes haha). So many people have been complementing me on them and ask me about what type of shoe it is… and then I’ll tell them about the benefits of barefoot walking hehe <3 <3 For running, only run on soft ground and never on asphalt, your feet will thank you.
This deserves way more views. People should realize going barefoot is the way we should walk.
HELLO SIR GOOD MORNING I’M FROM INDIA,My toe is not moving downhill, how will it be okay?
Amen. Even better if those shoes were fully grounded. Earthing people are free from cancer usually. Any advice for correction of knocked knees please? I believe it changed about 50% over few years since i moved to florida and i walk barefoot on sand…i still have left over to deal with like you said you have from childhood inserts…
If not totally barefoot.. at least barefoot in a good pair of sandals. NO SOCKS!!
Shit man I went straight for a 5k in the woods with the Merrell barefoot glove 5. And trust me you need too build up. But I do love them
You saying “I shouldn’t have back pain at 19” struck a chord with me haha I’m newly 20 and it never even occurred to me that my back shouldn’t be sore when I get home from work
I agree what everything you said. I have worn Vibram five finger shoes full time for three years and my toes are pretty much spread out all the time. I have no more plantar faciitis, no more between the toes fungus, my hips no longer hurt on long hikes, and yes, I wear them on rocky mountain slopes as well.
I started recreational running in my 20’s (70 this year). I track my mileage and ditch the shoes when they hit 300 miles. The one time I bought a brand’s high-priced model, it only lasted 240 miles and then I went back to the medium priced one. My reason was that I probably inherited my father’s bad back. Running shoes are cheap (compared to golf, tennis etc). Anecdotal? maybe. I am not a fan of minimalist shoes. My question for walking shoes as you get into your 70’s and 80’s what is the tradeoff for stability vs. cushioning? I would think that older walkers/runners might need stability more than cushioning. Thoughts?
He is 19. Talk to us when he has another 30 years on his feet.
I was a forefoot runner all my life, now I have metatarsalgia and can’t even walk. I was also a minimalist and preferred lighter weight running shoes. I did try Five-Finger Shoes when they first came out, but went back to lightweight running shoes. I started running as a sprinter and when I took up distance running over 40 years ago it just came natural for me to run on the balls of my feet. Maybe forefoot running wasn’t the cause of my metatarsalgia, but it certainly did not prevent it. I thought I would be running in my 90’s, but I am only in my early 60’s and can’t even walk. This came upon me suddenly 5 months ago and became debilitating in just 2 weeks. The podiatrist first sent me to rheumatologist who told me I did not have arthritis, then he recommended new shoes and orthotics to which he placed additional metatarsal pads and arch pads. I cannot walk without the shoes and then only short distances between rooms in my condo. I have to use a wheelchair when I leave home. Any referrences would be greatly appreciated!
Will you please make a video about decompressing the spine after heavy deadlifts? Stretches we can do? Anything to decompress it
Love your observations! Thanks for sharing.
It took me a while to come around to barefoot shoes. My feet are flat with severe overpronation. I need SUPPORT. Right?! Well, no. Getting feedback from the ground is vital, like you said, to how you walk. I used to have a strong heel strike. I don’t anymore. In order to prevent pain, I HAVE to adjust my stride and weight distribution.
Another thing, my job requires standing for hours on end. In a full shift in regular shoes, I would be so sore I’d hobble out of work and have to plop on the sofa for the rest of the day. Now, my feet are still a bit sore, but the soreness has decreased dramatically! I can still function and be on my feet if I need to.
I can’t say it happened overnight. Barefoot shoes definitely take some getting used to. When I first started wearing them to work, I got foot cramps a couple times, and I would have to change shoes. I’m glad I stuck with it though. I can’t believe how comfortable I feel in barefoot shoes. I’m not going back!
I have vibrams lol. Great for bunions bc it’s like being barefoot. But i just used for walking shopping etc not anything heavy impact. Also they take forever to get on lol.
What do you guys think about high-end barefoot shoes for casual wear? We made a new brand at DaVinci Barefoot.. Now we’re looking for feedback.
Once you go to Barefoot Minimalist Shoes you don’t want to go back to the old conventional type. Your feet are stronger and you have better core strength.

Thanks for the vid, interesting subject and put forward confidently. Would have liked to learn more about the potential injury to knees and such brought on by conventional shoes. I’m thinking about making the switch to a more minimalist shoe, albeit I do have some fears about aggrivating a very tender nerve between two of my toes… Anything ‘jabs’ into the wrong spot, even in my older but now very worn approach shoes, I get an electric shock sensation.
Anyway! Good luck with the channel. Hang your banner up higher, b.t.w. And maybe point the camera at a bit of a sideways angle to the wall to maximize visibility? That’s your brand name you’re promoting, mate! Get it out there!:)
Hey man, is it too late to start wearing barefoot shoes because my feet have already been developed or will the shoes actually change my the current state of my feet?
Switching to minimalist (barefoot) running shoes helped me solve my injury problems and go on to complete a marathon ♂️
If you have a running shoe take em off go barefoot for like a month put them back on and it feels weird
The best is to go pure barefoot, when it’s warm, I bike, walk and run on the streets barefoot…..
I ran barefoot. Now I have a sore ankle that has been sore over a week
“Evidence to date shows that changing gait patterns, not shoe selection, is
the best intervention in lowering the injury prevalence in runners.
Minimalist shoes may give better feedback to runners and allow them to focus
on changing their gait, but not everyone does, and this could lead to more
injury.”
-Jonathan Roth, MD, Orthopaedic Surgeon
American Association of
Orthopaedic Surgeons
Moral of the story….learn to run correctly, then switch to minimalist shoes or barefoot!
your back hurts because you work 9 hours a day in an office.
Does anyone know of a brand that makes a barefoot boot? I need them to be black. Thanks.
My size is 12.. in india its called jooti or mojri..u can check
These shoes are still missing the point. The sole itself is blocking the messaging that the nerves in your foot will acquire from the actual substrate. You will step on asphalt with more attention than you would with grass.
100%. I wear, worn military boots and heavy footwear because work for 30 years, I transitioned to Merrell and vibram minimalist footwear including Belleville mini mil boots. Everything feels better, feet, knees, legs, hips, back, core and posture. Currently deployed again. I brought my Merrell with me and removed the bed liners of my Rockies. The Rockies died, but I’m wearing every minimalist boot and shoe possible. We were not born wearing shoes. It takes about a month for your feet the dig the minimalist process.
Since I discovered barefootshoes, I realize how weird feet look like when you squeeze them in “normal” shoes. I’ve worn a lot of really bad shoes, high heels and flats and I still do from time to time. I had so many struggles to find shoes that “fit” and today I know why, ’cause “normal” shoes never fit the feet, they make the feet fit into it…

of course I just need to balance the positive and negative ions in my body by walking outside with out shoes. God i’m so dumb how did I not think of that. It makes so much since now, I am awake for the first time.
Can you grow/get the same benefits if you don’t wear shoes inside all day?
Trust me you DO need training shoes, i remember Sir Henry Cooper, he of the fabled left hook that dropped a young Ali, speaking about how he had ruined his knee, ankle and hip joints running in basic plimsoles on hard tarmac roads…………we’ve been wearing one type of foot covering in one shape or another for some time now.
I love walking barefoot to balance out the positive and negative ions in my body!
(Im not a scientist)
Someone awnser this for me,someone said they transitioned to minimalist then their feet couldnt handle normal shoes. Will it be hard to transition back to normal shoes?
I’m not gonna lie about shoes are very cool design BUT the PROBLEM with these shoes that they don’t make the all models for SMALLS feet, sucks!
Been wearing ultra minimal vibrams for years and my feet got a bit more muscular and dexterous.
I get stare from people at the park for walking and running barefoot. I love walking barefoot, but can’t say much for my wife, she gets mad at me.
Awesome video! Just have one question. Can I wear them with socks or has to be without socks.
Trying barefoot walking & hiking… very slowly in the beginning…
Ease in to level shoes then less cushion then Flat shoes. Barefoot
Stopped believing you when you said you had back ache at 19 from shoes.
What if you’re afraid of exposing your feet after how it looks? I’ve heard a lot of people don’t show feet to walk barefoot because they either slip from sweat or just is very awkward or painful to walk
Very good vid. I just purchased my first pair of minimalist shoes, Xero Prios The one thing missing from your vid is what one experiences going from regular to barefoot shoes regarding the physical changes and stages.
Growing in a third-world country we used sandals everywhere even playing basketball and moving here to NA having to wear shoes 24/7 was a weird transition. I use run barefoot in dirt roads and play tag and Finding shoes like these was the best thing ever!!
I just walk on gravel all day and my foot is one big callas now
Once you go Barefoot you cant go back. Literally I wore Fitkicks for 3 months straight (they’re $20 on Amazon and super comfy) and realized that my foot had spread out and gotten so wide I couldn’t wear my converse anymore, not that I want to go back! I have so much less back and foot pain now and I feel as if my balance has improved so much!
I don’t run at all but wearing “barefoot” style shoes is the best thing I ever did for my feet/knees/hips. If it doesn’t have a wide toebox, flat heel, and flexible sole, I am not wearing it. No more plantar fasciitis, bunion, ingrown nails, etc. Ditch the foot coffins and free your feet, people!
This guest should check out Hawaii where many go without footwear.
I think your cheesy in a good way. I enjoyed your video review. You seem pretty kool.
Way Thank You for Helping us Learn how to be able to to better take care of our selfs,, you guy are Very Helpful & Entertaining to watch you guy’s joke & exude good vibes…
All this assumes that running shoes with a slightly thicker heel forces you to land heel first. A lot with poor technique do, but they certainly don’t force you into heel striking, especially the shoes with a lower drop.
My vocabulary must be broken… Idk what a heathe is, grass verge, etc… We used to foot race all the time in the hood. If somebody take they shoes and socks off… They really trying to smoke you My mother from Virginia, will walk across hot coal, glass, whatever… And drink a Pepsi all the while..
I just found your video. I’ve worn barefoot shoes for 5+ years, and I love it!!! I would love to see a new video about how your feet physically has changed since. Has they become wider and are there more blood vessels going through now? Because many experience that, and I feel like my feet look so healthy now after many years in barefoot shoes.
vivobarefoot is also a really nice company for barefoot shoes
There’s not one reason mentioned why I should try running barefoot
A few years back i trained to the point of bein able to run barefoot on the road. Also trained to run in high temps (44°c) without getting (too) ill. The rough kind of asphalt not smooth.. it was very freeing. Was at my lowest bodyweight though and definitely forefoot. I’m going to start back to that life.. its great for the fascia and for connectivity to the earth.
I’ve been noticing the same benefits because I’ve been barefoot for 3 months in quarantine
p.s. Your video on how to fix a herniated disc & to strengthen hip & how to fix the crazy painful permorfis muscle & stop the craping of the permofis that seem to cause syatic nerve pain so bad,, i couldn’t us my lower half of my body / legs & became bed bound,, now i can walk again & trying to get back to work again…
Cute, informative video. But, I have fallen arches and as a result, bunions. I feel I need support…
I’m not a podiatrist. I am just a runner. For me, it just makes sense to have a zero drop shoe with a well-cushioned neutral sole. Zero drop removes the unnatural heel, and the neutral sole doesn’t create an unnatural platform for your foot. A neutral cushioned sole would prevent hard impact, but would otherwise be “natural” like barefoot running.
I wish you could get steel toe barefoot shoes, then I could wear them at work
When I was a kid in Mexico and didn’t have shoes, I was able to walk on dirt roads and even glass like nothing. Now living here in Chicago since age 8 I can’t even walk on grass lmao
“Take your shoes off and go outside”
Me: Looks out window to other barracks
Can’t do boss, need some sort of footware, just need to get it mailed
30 days is a start. Check out Groundies outta Denmark. Better than vivo.
Funstory, warning this might be a little gross. I have been wearing barefoot shoes for a few years. I alsoam lactose intolerant so I probably don’t get enough calcium. I was walking around by tiny apartment (not weaing shoes) and wacked my foot against a couch foot. So I broke my toe, but in an interesting way. It’s called a chip fracture. My muscle and ligament were so strong that they ripped a piece of my weak bone off.
hey if you still having back pain try working on your hamstrings glutes etc you might have slight anterior pelvic tilt which puts a lot of stress on your lower back. I had it at one point. All it means is your pelvis is tilted inwards due to weak n tight muscles. However, if the shoes solved it thats great!
RE: Morton’s neuroma. I’ve had no past pain while running (on my mid to forefoot area), it’s just after! Bought a new pair of NB for running yesterday and the toe on them is remarkably raised. Before MN diagnosis I gravitated toward shoes and high heels with elevated toes and bigger toe boxes, they seemed to make my feet feel better, but found no science to back it. So, I think these new shoes may or may not work out. Am I barking up a wrong tree? Do you think the raised toe will worsen or help long term? The pressure where the ball and toe come together is lessened, but I worry I am imagining it and harming another area or aggravating the MN itself. Also, my lumbars 2-5 are flat against each other per recent X-ray. Darn it all! I want to still run (treadmill only), but am I asking for trouble? Will the hanging on 2 chairs be enough? Thanks! I hope you have time to reply and sorry for the novel. I fell off high heels permanently a few years ago. Ha ha! And there will be no barefoot running for me, I can tell you that.
Humans evolved and we made shoes because they are better for us walking barefoot would only ruin your life walking in a nice pair of comfortable shoes that have padding will enhance your life you are the opposite of reality
Thanks for watching! If your interested in more check out this review I did on these amazing minimalist sandals https://youtu.be/8gTifkjb2jQ
Connecting the bare feet to the earth, possibly, is to sync to the resonate field of the earth’s base frequency. 7.83 hrtz
Mom was just complaining about me walking barefoot earlier lol
This is really interesting. I’m planning on giving these a go.
Interesting, however, the line ‘sensory deprivation can lead to neurological disease’ implies a cause and effect relationship. I would like to see a single piece of published work that has shown this?
Bob & Brad, what is your opinion on 5 fingers shoes? Any advantage vs flat sole shoes?
I just did my second forefoot run today and injured my left calf. I hope that’s not gonna be a regular thing.
while these are better than standard tennishoes and all but if it has a sole its not healthy…theres no such thing as healthy shoes!
I realized plenty of people I heard said they look at the most expensive Nike Shoes out there. Here in NYC they define cool as these people who’s attire are just as baggy and short looks. There is always two parties which we look at; formal and informal, hard or soft, red or blue/white/yellow, then we hear democratic and republican parties. Like you highlighted in this video “barefoot is your best shoes in this world.” You are right about it, we have shoe to protect us from an harmful artifacts which we step on. Because we were having these problems on the floor we invented shoes. There are also the reasons to why we have podiatrist here in US. We haven’t taught this around the world. So making huge investments in the Nike shoes will make you cool. But we must think what was the original purpose of having shoes were. We make mistakes in investing shoes for who we accessorize and identified as. Not its purpose in which they are suppose to correct our health.

Not enough time. Just like going to the gym it takes months to build muscle
I’m really interested in getting a barefoot shoe, but I don’t think they’re good if you have a job where you have to stand on your feet 8 hours a day. I use to wear converse (a sneaker with very little cushion) on a job where I had to stand 8 hours a day and I use to get massive pain around my hip joints/upper legs. Once I switched to an adidas athletic sneaker with cushion, the pain went away.
What a shame. A Barefoot runner but not a Barefooter per se… I find it easier to see debris whilst walking than running, so I guess I’ll always be a barefoot walker and never a barefoot runner…
hey. Who is that scientist? Can you link us to him? BTW I’m on week 3 and OMG my feet are sore but in a totally weird way much stronger and sensitive in a new way.
In Africa, their are parasites, that infect human via unprotected feet, and these parasites are not unique to Africa! I wear something like vibram, I DIY sock shaped foot dipped in rubber.
Like your video! I have the exact same shoes in the womens version and LOVE them! I’m a CNA and am on my feet all day and wear these to work and my feet never hurt. I’ve recently bought the Vivobarefoot Primus Lite shoe and they’re fantastic also.
I was obsessed with the Fila toed shoes for like 6-7 years through middle and high school wtf
Minimalist running seems the only way I can run without hurting my knees. So yeah. It’s working for me.
Get to the friggin point, we know this that’s why we’re looking…faaaak
