Someone simply mentioned it to me when I once commented that I feel weaker instead of stronger after my morning cereal, and I went to read up on the biochemistry of it. I then tried it, and it worked perfectly, although it is a bit hard to stick with since it’s a boring diet. I would rather be eating lots of grains and fruit.

I am not going on keto, but I am going on a somewhat similar diet called Atkins, which is split up into four phases. First phase of Atkins is essentially the Keto diet. Over time you slowly increase your carb intake but throughout the rest of your life it stays moderately low. It supposedly helps keep weight off. Hope it works for me lol

Those negative side effects only happen for a few days if at all, while your body transitions from using carbs as a fuel source, to fat. It’s called the keto flu. With clean foods, ots of water and salt I never even experienced this. Been on Keto for over 2 months and I’ve never felt better. 40 pounds lighter and even stronger in the gym (after a slight decrease in strength the first 2 weeks while my body adapted to the change). The new found mental clarity is also no joke. That’s been my experience with Keto so far.
I’m doing keto AND I love cookies and cream milkshakes. While I’m definitely losing weight my heart still longs for the sweet, crunchy vanilla goodness of a pint of the good stuff. Looking forward to a couple of months when I ween myself back onto a balanced amount of carbs.

I’m not on this diet nor do I ever plan to be on it but I can’t get away from people mentioning it so I had to look it up. There is something just not right about eating with the sole purpose of losing weight. Avoid carrots, apples and potatoes? No thank you! How about just being more sensible, physically active and eating to nourish your body? It might take longer but in the long term you will be healthy and establish good habits for life. Keto is unhealthy and damaging. A small calorie deficit is the only way to truly lose weight. 500 calories less than you burn a day is optimal for consistent fat burn. Be patient; don’t go lower than this, or you risk muscle and tissue degeneration, thus being just as bad as keto.

been on keto for 2 months in which i lost more than 10kg. it’s super easy to follow just don’t eat shit and eat all the tasty food you are allowed to. after being on keto for the 2 months n doing fasting i never had any problem with headaches bad breath and all that. that said, i haven’t done any blood-tests tho. so far my only problem is that when it’s time to poop my stomach ache as if i were it was diarrhea, but it is normal and after i’m done the pain stops.
to me diets like keto and intermittent fasting make absolute sense, carbs and sugars in the huge amounts we are consuming today is unnatural. the human body hasn’t evolved to eat like that. agriculture has come in a very small % of our life, our body still works as hunter gatherers you could say.
in conclusion for me when i go and check my blood if that shit is alright then it means keto is the way to go. it’s easy and simple and it works. keto fasting and some workout should be enough to be in a normal shape and healthy.

I was recommended to do a ketogenic diet when I was still in paediatrics with neuro-disabilities. I have JME (juvenile myoclonic epilepsy). The diet reduces brain electrical activity by up to 60% (which is the aim when treating epilepsy). But they warned me that it is a very, very strict diet. I would be referred to a nutrition, however it will not be easy to follow. Of course, being 15 at the time, the thought of losing weight super fast was super exciting for me. I quickly said that I wanted to do it. But when the doctor realised that I was more happy about the weight loss, she quickly turned me down. At first I was kinda disappointed, but I think that it is definitely for the best. I think that I should be using my teen years to explore different flavours and culture of food. I ended up finding an anticonvulsant drug that worked perfectly first try and I am blessed to have done so. In fact, everyone was relieved that medication worked over a diet. But I definitely think that I will try out the lifestyle when I am slightly older.
So moral of the story keto is just a plate of meat. Thats it. No side dish? Thats a pretty plain diet. And to do it for one month?

So I’ve gone on keto/low carb just over a week ago, I actually enjoy the food so much and have gone out to restaurants a few times in this time (I’m home for summer so it’s like a long holiday eating out will be a part of that) and I’ve gotten around ordering something super yummy yet keto friendly every single time if you cook enough and know your ingredients it is quite sustainable
I wonder what a world looks like if everyone ate a keto diet from a sustainability standpoint

Friendly reminder that the fad diet is the standard american diet. People have been on carnivore/keto in historic times and only really consumed carbohydrates sparingly or as a starvation protocol.
I have never noticed any ability to focus whilst fasting although I know people who have. I am in an out of ketosis, I have had keto flu, it is very mild in my case. The results were to lose 10kg in the first ten weeks and then no change for three years. The best result has been the improvement in testosterone, from average for my age, I now have the testosterone level of someone more than 20 years younger.

why bread? why not a sweet potato? Bread is just savory cake. Serious. If you’re gonna eat carbs, eat them in vegetable form. Any nutrients you get from bread, pasta, refined rice you can get in more nutritionally dense vegetables.

Keto and Veganism is what I call CAUCASIAN diets. They are Caucasian fads more than anything. Keto damages your heart and can cause diabetes. Veganism starves your body of specific vitamins it needs and has been shown to cause depression and anxiety.
My experience with the keto diet: It’s not awful like classical low calorie dieting, but you don’t feel great either like when you’re eating to satisfaction, a full meal with all your macro and micro nutrients, after a hard workout. You kind of feel 70-80% all the time. Your appetite is pretty much gone, but you’re never satisfied either, you don’t feel weak, but you don’t feel awesome either. All around you feel kind of worked up all the time. I think that people that say they feel more focused on keto had a really bad lifestyle before going on keto, and confuse the raised cortisol and adrenaline with a clear mind. I don’t think being in survival mode for months on end can be too good for the brain. Can’t wait to go back to the gym and have my baked potatoes and fruits again. That being said, fat is melting away with keto.

Keto is really not good for you. You NEED carbs. It’s excess carbs that are the problem here. You’ll run into so many problems if you stick with the low carb diet long term. You need your macros!! To lose fat, don’t cut foods from your diet, figure out how to “eat more and weigh less” by consuming veggies and fruits and lean meats like chicken.
There was an episode on this on Adam ruins everything, fat vs sugar where sugar companies pointed the finger at fat consumption that led to obesity when it was actually sugar.

Losing weight is a great thing, and keto type diets work better than low fat diet. The problem with low fat diets is that people will eventually quit and gain back all their lost weight and more. People who can stick to keto keep the weight off.
Also, the reason keto dieters stop losing weight is because they are reaching a healthy weight.
It’s well known that low fat diets don’t work because of constant hunger. Keto diets, on the other hand, can be maintained because hunger is basically eliminated. Also, there are no limits on how much food you can eat on a keto diet, unlike low fat diets. The low fat diet doesn’t work because restricting calories causes insatiable hunger, where the keto diet does not. If somebody quits the keto diet, it’s because they don’t have the discipline, not because of hunger. Low fat dieters almost always quit because hunger forces them to eat.
Keto works, and disciplined people can stay on the diet.

I started the keto diet a few weeks ago, was eating too much junk. I’m not adjusted to it yet though so it’s been tough with both insomnia and constipation for me, but I’m eating just once or twice a day and learning to cook.

Its not black and white. Eating too much farm factory meat and cheese has its problems. People consume excessive salt with it. Eating 50% carbs however is too high and its what is causing our sugar issues. Refined flours, whitened rice and corn are the problem. The happy medium is consuming a lower amount. 30% is probably good and mainly whole carbs like beans, potatoes and legumes, or carrots or whole corn and peas. Then maybe 30% protein and 40 % good fats (nuts, olives, avocados, coconut, and maybe 5-10% animal based if you want but non processed and free range. It has to be balanced.
There is nothing anyone is going to say to convince me that eating nothing but meat and vegetables is a bad idea.

I’m actually on a low-cal low-carb or, hi complex carb diet. I’m limiting my encounter with processed foods, and only eating stuff with calories that are lower than 200 because it all adds up at the end of the day.I sometimes it don’t eat things that are low calorie because the carbohydrates are over 40g. It’s really hard doing this diet because there’s not a lot of food that I can eat at all. Everything is really processed and extremely overdone in calories.used to eat Reese’s everyday, and only recently I found out that the king size has 400 calories. That’s more than a freaking Whopper jr., Which only has 380 calories.

I can only plan a diet if I live alone. Living with my parents didn’t give me chance to plan my own meal because I eat what they cook. Simple as that.
The “Balanced Diet” aka SAD (Standard American Diet) is the worst diet you could ever eat, it is a diet for slaves to keep you sick all your life and spend your salary on medical bills. It is only promoted because big pharma owns everything and sponsors every study to favor this diet. Ketogenic or Carnivore diet are the only diets humans ate for 99% of its existence, carbs only came in the last 10.000 years with agriculture and it brought all the “modern diseases” with it, aka diabetes, alzheimers, dementia, cancer etc. Eating what you are made of is not dangerous, it is madness to think otherwise! I am a morbidly obese individual currently hovering at 360ish pounds at 26y old with binge eating habits and I have had some success with low carb/keto when I don’t cheat that is. For me though switching to any diet is hard considering my normal eating habits are so bad that eating like a normal person is just as hard. I am still young in college and I really think keto in some ways is easier even for long term because it forces you to change your diet and eating habits from the ground up because if I just tried to calorie count I would still be eating out all the time and it would be to tempting to eat large quantities and cheat then it is to just say no more of that. even with a non-keto method I would still have to learn home cooking techniques and avoid most of the typical american restaurants and fast food completely and keto because of the high fat makes you less hungry. also you could choose to eat less red meats or processed meats if you follow a super clean keto like some of what Thomas Delauer recommends in his videos.

Nutrition is the science. When it comes to accrediting weight (not necessarily fat) loss to a particular diet that’s simply bullshit.
If you simply burn more calories than you ingest, you’ll lose weight even sat on a sofa all day. Most of you are new and don’t know which is why you’re here. When you’re motivated and workout you’re probably doing this in addition to been in a calorie deficit “diet”. That means you’re already in a deficit AND training on top putting you in a drastic deficit hence the sudden and rapid loss of weight.
I lost a stone and my diet wasn’t considered “healthy” at all. Largely take away, KFC and McDonalds. I just controlled the calories.
Not sure if it’s just from losing weight (87kilos to 45) but many people commented on how I look younger. I was only 8 months on keto before having to stop because I am now underweight. A tip: Be a habitual label reader and learn the hidden names for sugar (especially since there are so many other names for sugar).
