For the first time in 13 years the US Food and Drug Administration has approved a pill to help people lose weight. The approval by the US federal regulator comes almost two years after it first rejected it on safety concerns. Those concerns have now been addressed in the new diet pill called Belviq but the FDA has ordered the manufacturer to continue studies to look for possible dangerous side effects. Besides side effects and health-related problems, for many the Belviq cost is prohibitive. I found reviewers saying they were out-of-pocket several hundred dollars, especially without insurance.Comment: I have been on Belviq for five weeks and have lost 11 lbs. I am taking 2 pills a day. Side effects at first were sleepiness, feeling cold all the time and some muscle weakness.
