do you wear socks when wear them while running in temperate climates?
All these shoes have a very steep slope from big toe to little toe. My little toe is not that much further down from my big toe. Where are the barefoot shoes with a footprint like mine? I’ve been looking! I need more of a box kind of a shape. Somebody please tell me it’s exists somewhere…thank you.
I love vivos. Have about 4 pairs. Only con is that they fall apart on me, sole comes off if it isn’t stitched on which a lot of them have. Stitching and fabric rips on others. Gonna keep buying them cause there’s not many options that compare.
This looks like what you had before…maybe not exactly but look more breathable than the new ones you got and they’re only $7.51 US: https://www.fasttech.com/products/1933/10020231/4305801
Also, I have these, they’re $110 but I love them: https://www.amazon.com/inov-8-Bare-XF-Cross-Trainer-Shoes-Black-Orange/dp/B01N5G5TOU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504294594&sr=8-1&keywords=inov-8%2B210%2Bv2&th=1
I rock my vibram v-runs with confidence and pride. The world can get use to them. I’m not about to follow the sheeple.
In regards to you saying you ran the 100 to early, I think from my perspective that just wasn’t my story. I started running my first race a year ago (mothers day half marathon) and a month and a half ago I ran a 100. Looking at your 100 race video it just appeared you didn’t have all of the proper knowledge such as salt caps, eating every 30mins to an hour etc. I know you can easily complete it. Just need to properly hydrate and get used to running extremely slow and have all of the knowledge of 100s. You can do it man and I hope you crush the marathon. And get well quickly!!
QOTD: I ran in the John Keenan Memorial Race which is over a 3.2KM distance. Finished in 5th place in a time of 9:57. Reasonably happy with it.
Hey Seth! I’m looking for a second trainer that I could use on medium runs and some speed workouts. I’m currently a junior in high school, I’ve been running cross country for 3 years. Right now I’m running in the Brooks Glycerin 16 (Neutral, plush cushioning, 10mm offset). Do you have any recommendations?
I thought i was extreme.I have about 4 pairs of shoes I have alot (2 is alot for me)pairs of flip flops.I do need to learn how to walk better.I stomp around a lot.Not mad i just walk fast and tend to stomp.
Hey! I’ve been wanting to know about these shoes for a while. Thank you so much for sharing!
dudeee. what about the sizing? lots of comments say the sizing is all messed up. so do I order bigger size than normal or a smaller size?
LOL I loved the ending. You’re a beautiful human-like person VP
Yes, we all understood that you were talking about Primal Professional:)
I’m going to be picking up those Lem’s boots, Fo-Sho! Thanks for the link, Chase. So hard to find boots that don’t crush the toe box these days.
Because nobody try to compete with them and sadly barefoot shoes are nish. Its like “spaciallty” shoe. Low demand by consumers equals high price.
I didn’t know that ppl w flat feet could develop an arch over time. That’s cool.
I stand on one foot while brushing my teeth, doing dishes etc to strengthen the muscles in my foot.
Chase I think the brand Wildlings is worth checking out. They look better than any barefoot shoes I’ve seen
Thanks for this informative video, ai suffer very badly from Fallen arches (flat feet) which can make it very painful for me to walk properly due that epain my arch and ankles and sometimes my knees. I used to have orthopedic insoles, but they just made it ever more painful for me that within 10 minutes of walking I wasnt able to walk at all due to the pain. Now I dont walk at all with hard arch insoles and resort to sketches which are more flexible for me.
Most people don’t know this but Shoe Stevenson and his older brother Wet Sock Stevenson, were not actually real people. They were the documented hallucinations of Pencil Stevenson who was connected in some convoluted way to Arthur Klondike Bar Robinson. I can’t remember the details but I did explain it in great detail in a previous Vegetable Police post.
I’ve been wearing freet barefoot shoes for years, love them. I also have a pair of xero shoe sandals that are very similar to your sandals, I’ve worn them all around the world. I’m currently in Salem Massachusetts with them
There are flip flops that are like slippers, have you tried crocs?:p
I wear water proof, side zipper boots that have breathable gortex lining…they used to be affordable at 100usd but everyone’s found out ab I UT them and now are closet to 160….
I have the sweetest feet. My feet even slip in rainbows and berks. Would you still recommend?
Dont be a Kent! Start Sharing your videos on SteemIt. You’ll triple your residual $$$! Your welcome! ( ;
New to your channel. You’re amazing. I like the way you present the content.
Thank you for this vid! I want. (Vegan, yay!) and I’m already used to the looks when I sport “socks n stocks” lol
I read Born to Run, bought zero drop Merrell shoes and started researching veganism based on that book. Never wearing arch support again, one of the worst things you could do for your posture.
Got the idea of wearing beach/aqua shoes to work back in 2016 and still doing it now because of the mesh material and breathability. Looks like we have the same idea Vegetable Police
Try Luna Sandals made in Seattle. I’ll try those Shama. If I could sandle 100% of life, I would. Judge me if you will
You have inspired me to give barefoot shoes a go I didn’t even know they existed before I found your channel! I just bought the Merrell Vapor 4’s today and have been wearing them around the house. So far, I love them!
This video is misleading. His feet naturally support his arch, which makes this method work for him. But other people have a collapsed arch or flat feet that in turn causes your tibia and fibula to compensate for the imbalance and the issues run up the kinetic chain. There is a reason doctors say things will help, you (someone whom knows nothing of medicine) cannot claim that every doctor (who probably went to school for at least 8 years) knows less than you. Everyone is different.
Lems Chukkas seem a bit counter to the whole idea of barefoot shoes with that thick sole, no?
If you have large feet, try the Croc Santa Cruz Loafers. They run a 14 wide which is excellent.
I wish I could have shoes like these. But, I have fallen arches. So, I need arch support, otherwise, my knees hurt.
Would you recommend these shoes for someone who uses a prosthetic leg?
Yeah I dunno, maybe for some people. I wore regular shoes my whole life, and then into a couple jobs where I was standing for 8 hours a day. By the time I got home some days, my ankles were killing me and I could barely walk. I have fairly flat feet. Once I started wearing shoes with arch support, all of my ankle pain went away.
Bro, just found your channel and I’m really enjoying the content!
Wanted to ask, in a previous video you said your feet have gotten too wide even for some barefoot shoes like xero.
Could you elaborate on the process for making that happen?
Like maybe exercises, tools like toe separators and so on.
That would be awesome!
Chase! what do I gotta pay to see more content from you? Genuinely saying thisyou’re one of my favorites on youtube. Keep up the good work, and stoked to see some new content dude!
Reflect: the long run was great! Did 12.5 miles and 6 of those miles were at goal half marathon pace ( 6:30)
I’ve had to have 3 major Reconstructive Foot and Ankle surgeries; where titanium screws have been inserted in my arches and bones shaved off, the collapsed Navicular bones, namely. My fèet are far too sensitive and now, have to wear very supportive shoes, and can never walk barefoot, because of my previous severe fallen arches. WARNING: Never accept toxic Cortisone injections, for pain, because that’s what caused the main tendon in my left foot to rupture and it had to be seen back together; felt like a rubber band snapped in two, when my arch finally collapsed, but now, I can almost jog.
Hey, what’s your opinion on toe spacers? Also, you kinda sound like a real world Fry from Futurama.
I had to slack off using my Adios 4. Love them and a good distance shoe but got a bit of PF from them:-(
Don’t do what I do sometimes with strava…. Like forgetting to turn your watch off when leaving the running area a driving off in an auto. You could get 99 miles quick in a shoe.
Love this! I have flat feet with one pronated due to screws in the ankle and calf 30 years ago. I have OA in the knees. Running shoe store sold me a pair of shoes for pronated feet. They kill me because the other foot is not pronated, and it feels like a bar pushing the inside of the soles upward. I don’t wear them unless I go shopping lol. I bought a cane because one leg was so bad. I used the cane ONE evening and it made my shoulder hurt that does not hurt. I hug the cane up and don’t wear those darned expensive tennis shoes for stupid feet. You hit this spot on about using crutches!
Chase, thanks for this video. It was a huge help!! I have been looking for similar shoes for years. Love the energy made me a subscriber. Love the content..
I thought what killed your foot was that 5K cookie race in rebook shoes, which seem to have very thin midsole.
Awesome video here. Tried sending you a message at matterful but says your server is down. Oh no!
It took you so long to get to the point where you were going to tell us why you were injured that I had to stop watching. I listened to you blabber along for like 10 minutes… I wish I had that time back. I can’t remember being this disgruntled with a YouTube video in a long time. You win.
Have you ever tried ” Wildling ” shoes? I highly recommend them
any recommendations how to track mileage in diff pair of shoes? any good apps to recommend? tq
Just did my first Marathon last week (Vancouver so a tough course). Did 2:52 so pretty happy. Ran them in the Reebok Floatride Run fast and they felt great!
Great video man! Many people would disagree though. It’s great to relate to our past as much as possible, but their lifestyles were very different. For one, they weren’t carrying the weight we usually carry, for the time. In my job I have to carry a 45+ lbs ruck sack, on mixed terrain, for miles. Other days I am carrying or squatting heavy loads. The shoes I wear are not natural, and neither are the activities I perform. I guess a practical example is that our ancestors definitely didn’t stand at a fucking cash register for 8+ hours without movement:) Those people need the extra cushion and support. Around the house or when I am lounging in parks I definitely go barefoot but it is pretty dangerous advice to tell people to just go barefoot or minimalist from the get go.
Barefoot shoes are the best I bought my first pair last year for the gym. A couple weeks later I went back to the same store to buy a different pair as daily shoes.
It takes some time to get used to them but I’m not going back to “normal” shoes
Toooo many miles? Bro my sketchers go run 7 have 450+ miles and I am waiting for the hoka rincon to come out. I need them to come out now
Ordered my second pair of Lems using your links. Got the first pair of bolder boots and ordered the nine2five’s, 2 days later. These thing are freaking great!! Thanks for turning me on to them!
Try Vibram five finger toe shoe I have been for about 10 years now. Love them
I don’t need fancy shoes or some company that’s spent millions on “styling”, I just want a normal shoe with normal materials just less of them and more width.
I have found that water shoes on AliExpress serve as a great budget “barefoot” shoe. Aside from that good things are said about xero sandals and the like and they aren’t too much. Not a shoe though.
Started doing a Deadlift heaving lighting session once a week and a Kettle bell session every week or two and that has been great. I also broke my left right above the ankle 3 years ago. Do strength work for 5-10 mins 3/5 times a week with Bands and it is keeping it strong. Stay in there man. Don’t ride the highs too high or get bogged down the lows too much
You are undoubtedly one of the most hilarious people that I ever ‘met’. I enjoy your videos immensely, good luck on your relocation to Thailand. You Toronto fleeing Bitch!
Anyone know of a video like this for women’s barefoot shoes/ boots? if not, when I get my year round seasonal collection, maybe I’ll have to do one.
What about nails and glass VP? I live in a semi-dirty city. Is Thailand not grimmey?
Now I can too say you are not alone. Have broken my ankle. Amazing how fast things can go wrong. Life lesson
1:58.11 800m for HS region championships this week! Had a lot of fun and came away with the victory, on to state next week. Going to be my first triple ever so I’m a little nervous but I think I’m ready
I am new to your channel and I really find your videos inspirational. I notice you wear garden gloves while gardening. For me not wearing garden gloves and gardening barefoot makes me connect so much more to the nature. I know most people don’t like soil under their finger (or toe) nails, but I in a way like it. When the boundary of “me” and nature is in a way blended.
Im also trying to adapt to this minimal lifestyle. Bulky shoes and sitting on chairs for extensive periods caused me to have back and knee pains by age 24!! I adopted the barefoot lifestyle and started sitting on floor and now im back and knee PAIN FREE!!! glad to see others have added this lifestyle too
I’ve been wearing Vivo’s Tracker FG boot everyday for work for about 2 years. Incredibly soft now and comfortable. Still waterproof as they were on day 1. Great boot for harsher conditions; mud, water, etc. Barefoot shoes have helped my running, knee pain, back pain, etc….and Dr. Bronners also! Seems like it all comes with the territory once you find what improves the mind and body!
Not related but I like to know if you’re still enjoying your Mizuno Waveknit R2?
Hope you have a speedy recovery!!!
I’ve been wearing Merrill Barefoot Pace Glove shoes for years, but they don’t make that style anymore. Now I just scoure ebay and the thrift stores hoping to find some. They really are amazing shoes… they remind me of my younger years growing up in California where I never wore shoes unless I had to!
I love your videos so much. You make me laugh every time. I just bought minimalist shoes this summer and I love them. I can’t go back to padded shoes now they hurt!
You’re so weird… I think you’ll take that as a compliment. Very, very weird.
For a second there, I was thinking that Seth was saying 99 miles is too much for a shoe!!
But, I realise that he is saying that that Adios is a racing shoe, not a training shoe…
Panic over I am on the same page:)
I love my Adidas Boston and Adios (for races and faster runs)
What should a person with flat feet and all the associated problems do? What do you suggest?
Thank god I don’t have to return my pretty converse sneakers that I just bought. I’ve been reading its reviews that it doesn’t have arch support, it will damage the feet yada yada but I felt just comfortable when I wore n it fits well too. I was just scared what if afterwards I feel pain n I can’t even return it. But you made such valid points. Thanks:D
8:55 wise words that must be underlined:
1) do not rely on external props to fix your postural problem, use your muscles.
2) if you have one, don’t go from 100% external support to 0%: adopt a progressive overload approach to let your body adapt safely.
This week I recently started feeling some pain in my big toe. I think I have turf toe if you know what that is can u give me some tips on how to get rid of it. Thanks
If your going walking on trails or dirt roads and like shoes like this than try Merrill trail gloves.
The Vivo shoes tend to have the soles dry out after a few years, then they crack, and are no good. Customer service could Not be bothered to help in any real way. I was not asking for a pair of shoes free but merely answers as to why two pairs of pricey shoes failed and other shoes, such as my Adidas Gazelle, etc, while worn out, were still in wearable condition. Vivo, for the prices they charge, could at least offer resole service, but do not. Vivo has a great concept, but their customer service flops. Thank you for posting this comparison, I will look at some of the other brands reviewed.
QoD: happy to report that I raced twice this weekend in my county champs in the UK and came away with two PBs so I’m very happy. I have to give some credit to you, Seth. Before my 1500m, I was getting so worked up in my head, going through the motions, and then it was the thought of you and your slogan that put a smile on my face and chilled me out. I had tried everything already but that seemed to be the thing that worked. Thanks, Seth and well done everyone. All the best
Thankful for your videos. With dan gone, I need someone to keep my raw food inspiration in check, as I’m only 6 months in. “Cooked food is a stiff up bitch” these are the quotes I need Lol.
I don’t know how I feel about this. I have flat feet and when I wear flat shoes my legs and are in pain. Should I wear different with shoes with different arch support every other day?
I got a pair of beach shoes today. Hope they last as long as yours.
I enjoyed your video. I’ve wanted to try barefoot shoes for a while now. I’ve messed up my feet because of the type of work I did. 30+ years of squatting with one foot flat and one foot bent. As a result I have a bunion on one foot and hammer toes on the other. The foot with the hammer toes were always gripping trying to keep my balance. So, shoes don’t fit me right. My left foot points left and my right foot points right. Bunions. I have shoes with a wide toe box but my little toes always hits the side of the shoe. So, bunion on one side of the foot and little toe hits on the other. My question is “can you recommend a shoe that had a wide toe box that can help. I would walk barefoot but my feet are very sensitive due to the years of wearing shoes. I want a shoe that is minimalist zero rise. Recommendations? I don’t care if it’s Howard the duck look. I think my only recourse is sandals but my feet are embarrassing, too me anyway.
They have a lot of this kind of shoes in thailand or buy a japanese tabi shoes… or you will wear slippers most of the time
this video changed my whole perception of what i was doing holy crap youre awesome
Would this be good with someone who has a mortons neuroma or should I stay away from this
14 miles with a 1:53 half marathon time. It was hot, and I was tired but glad I stuck with it.
I have two adizero and i have over 300 miles on each and they are still good for another 100 miles. If you are putting a maximum of 50 miles per shoe then you need two shoes for a 100 miler:)
Verdict after using these a while?
Last trip I went on, I only had one pair of nice Nike shoes. They were great for almost everything but there were a couple hostel showers and beaches where I wish I had a something on.
Definitely planning to have something for the next trip.
I’ve always preferred light flexible shoes, never had any problems with my feet, knees and back, maybe that’s part of the reason
Chase, you should review Som Footwear Norwood or trailhead. Made in Colorado, look like vans/chucks, and a do everything shoe. I think they would fit your style. Will be my next pair.
1:38 I thought you were going to say better movement… better ingredients… Papa John’s?
You could check out Columbia when you are in Japan. i just bought a waterproof, lightweight, sneaker type shoe from my last trip to Japan, they are Columbia brand and non leather. they have a hightop and a regular sneaker type style. not quite a flexible as Merrells (i have them too!) but still good because of the waterproofness. I also have a waterproof, fuzzy lined snow boot also from Columbia, also bought in Japan, but living where you are, you prob don’t need that much warmth.
Japan have lots of waterproof shoes that i don’t see here in Australia, so you’ll probably find some if you need them.:)
Could you make a video on how you have made your sandals? That would be so helpful!
Vegetable police , you should see sv3rige’s new video he is eating a raw goat head at a vegfest in Germany, until the police catch him and kick him out,he almost cried, he is so sick and such a creepy dude. If anyone ever needed apprehended by Vegetable police , it’s that dude.
No wonder I’ve had problems in the past wearing Adidas Adizero Boost shoes for daily training…
my favorite vids are when you’re talking and walking through a forest. relaxing
QD: The worlds biggest relay, Holmenkollstafetten in Norway, with 3272 teams and 50 000 runners! I ran the longest leg which is 2840m at 10’22”. My goal was to beat my coworkers previous runs on this leg. I’m now the fastest at work!:)
I’ve bought my first pair of barefoot shoes, I’ve been wearing them around the house today and they seem comfortable. I love the wide toe box. I’m going to try to wear them at work but I am a little worried as I work standing up on a tile floor in a bakery for 8 hours at a time and I have been recommended ‘comfort’ shoes but after reading up about barefoot shoes they just make so much sense!
QoD: Ran my second fastest 5K ever ( 21:32) today at the Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5K (finishes inside our minor league park in Portland, Me).
And remind me to never buy a pair of shoes that I can only get 20 to 30 miles out of. That seems pretty whack.
I started to wear barefoot shoes but ended up getting plantar fasctis a couple weeks in and now I’m stuck back to square one. How do you move past this
AKA water-socks. I wear them too. Hey ever heard of grounding shoes? Also do a video on the turpentine parasite cleanse. That stuff is AMAZING! Peace.
hey man. I’m a bare footer. it gets tough in the winter tho… 2nd day on fruit and veggie diet. I’ve never craved junk food so bad in my life! and meat. I can already feel a difference and my body is getting rid of some nasty stuff. thanks for your videos.
QD: LR today. 2:03 for 11mi. Felt tough but good. Wanted to remind you Seth that you’re a Buffalo and tough as nails! Things happen for a reason and you’re assessment of ‘the why’ seems sound. Hang in there and keep focusing on the half-full! We’re here for you. PS Sweet fort! ☠️ You’re an awesome Dad.
Totally agree about the cost factors, imagine applying those factors to say Nike or Adidas if they were smaller companies but with the same tech as they currently have, then their shoes would be $1000 plus due to all these proprietary technologies, so by that logic barefoot shoes are actually a bargain, also factor in for $100 you can get a top end barefoot shoe whilst for the same cost you can barely get a mid range cushioned shoe which will have lower grade performance features that are horrendous for your feet and lower extremities. By the way really enjoying this channel.
My gopro wont turn on either! I have a hero 7 also and I have to get it fixed:(
I fully support everyone doing their own thing but I enjoy beautiful things. They add pleasure to my life. Those sandals are the ugliest things I’ve ever seen.
just discovered this channel and i frickin love it. the energy?? the content?? chef‘s kiss
you should try wildlings they make Vivo shoes seem as comfortable as high heels xD
QOD: I’ve been taking it fairly easy this week before commencing a new training block on Monday. Instead I took my dog for a much needed bonding session (slow run/fast jog).
As for the shoes: I’ve literally just bought the Adios 4 and while my training is in no way as intensive as yours is I must admit I was hoping you would not be pinning the blame on those bad boys. I’ve only put about 20km in them so far but I’ll be hoping to squeeze in at least Twenty times that if I’m being honest
Keep inspiring us, always glad to see a new video notification.
Maybe you were enjoying the adios so you didn’t notice how many miles you were putting on them, if you want the training version of the adios, I suggest you to try the Adidas adizero Boston, I’m sure you’ll like them.
QD: this weekend I raced a 5.5k 18:38 4th 1st of my age. I got a .
Im glad you are excited to cross train, I hope you get back to running soon. I know its tough, and looking back and trying to have hindsight. I think no matter what, injuries can just happen, even when you try to pinpoint things down it’s hard. Especially knowing at the moment. There are times you push too hard and are fine, and times, when you can be doing less, and things, can bite you. I hope your foot gets better Seth! I know it has to be killing you.
To add to what you said at the end, I don’t know why, but I recently just started liking sandles. I have the pair of sandles from Xero shoes with the lizards on them and people always say I have the Jesus sandles. I’m not religious, but I take it as a compliment because I’m on a spiritual journey like he was.
Yesterday, my first line leader at my Army Reserves unit heard my foot pop, looked down at my feet, then looked back at me like I deserved to be laughed at, but I enjoy feeling comfortable. Comfort is confidence. I’d pick sandles over work boots or Jordans any day.
I like your vibe! the topic is very important, go barefoot, folks!
There’s youtubers that I would love to just hang with… Peter McKinnon, MKBHD, Chris Ramsey and Chase…just seems like some cool dudes
Hi, what specific Merrel shoes do you wear? Thanks in advance
What is your feeling on Splay Athletics? I know they are only kid’s shoes, but I have kids….They are way more affordable than Vivo barefoot kids, Xero kids, Wildlings, etc all of which I considered. I have 3 kids and myself, I can’t afford Vivo/Xero/Wilidings for all of us can’t really decide which kid shouldn’t get them either, especially considering kids outgrow shoes quickly. I could spend for myself, my feet aren’t getting any bigger. I already ordered the Splay, but they haven’t gotten here yet.
I just wanted to say thank you you inspiried me to buy barefoot shoes and it helped me a lot with my joints problems.:)
Why did you just Delete my Comment that I made @ 30 Seconds ago???
I’ve always hated shoes, they come off the first chance I get.
that’s a mix of attitudeq. But there’s a dominant. witch is… the offspring leader? i’m confused.
Seth, after all you’re still having so far a great 2019 amazing after you got injured you did 2 marathons with great times!
Guess you’re not a minimalist guy. I run 30 miles a week in Merrell vapor gloves and don’t have any issues. Am I setting myself up for problems in the future?
I have a solution. There are cotton-sole tai chi shoes that I wore for years and years. At that time it took 3-4 months to wear them out if I worked to “walk in principle”. I heard from a New Yorker that some glued on a sole of soft leather. In 2020 we has a paint on rubber that might work too.
… Matt Matt thank you. And.. I did not know about the Instagram.
-> Matt explains this about no-support-insoles so well. I should (learn to) cut out that part of the video.
A back pain surgery commercial on a video that is explaining how to fix it naturally. Wow youtube bet yall are gonna blame the genius algorithm you guys made and, not, blame yourselfs? Tisk tisk. Nice job V. Po po.
QD: long run 33km on my Adios Adizero 4 I’ve always training/racing on similar shoes (Mizuno hitogamy, Saucony iso freedom etc) but I tend try to use only one pair for do both. (Or two pairs of the same kind) This is because for me, I have noticed weird pains changing from one pair to another (which I feel once the shoe replacement starts) do you think that this is a bad practice?
I bought a pair of vivobarefoot FG trial last March. I walked over 2000 miles in them plus ran a 4.30 kilometre and many road 5k. When I can afford it I will buy a pair of primus lite. Please do more of these vlogs
I do have to say that when walking barefoot outside watch your feet. If you have a cut you could definitely get tetanus. Not just through rusted metal. It’s in soil too.
But if you’re comfortable and happy with the shoes or lack thereof that’s great for you. I’m glad you’re door right by you.
I didn’t really do a long run, but I did run 5 times this week and did 21 miles. I’m feeling good and I’m going to try for 25 miles this week
cool vid after watching it..went to amazon and bought me a toe spacers
I also do a lot of walking and wear arch less beach type shoes most of the time. I’m careful about where I step and step gently especially when I’m walking on pavement. I agree with you about this being healthy for your whole body not just your feet. It works for me, but you know everyone’s a little different, some people might need more support but in general I do think this is healthier.
Any chance of a dress shoes review? That’s the one thing I’ve had trouble with. Switching from my Hanas or boulder boots to a hard heeled and stiff narrow dress shoe suuuuuuucks.
Really helpful guide! Anyone ever tell you you sound like Fry from futurama? Thats not a dig, it actually enhances the video lol
I don’t understand: should you have replaced your Adidas fast race shoe after less then 50 miles? I thought all running shoes lasted at least a few hundred miles. What do you mean exactly when you say 99 miles is too much? You should have alternated with other shoes with more cushioning?
Good on you, Seth. Not easy to admit you’ve made mistakes, so well done for identifying them. And much respect for sharing them. I’m sure you’ll learn and absolutely crush it when you get back to training.
Hey Vp, I had plantar fasciitis bad.. yt channel ‘plantar fasciitis survival guide’ recommended raw foods, minimalist/flat shoes, and massage therapy. Now I don’t have PF! I wear the company ‘soft star shoes’ and they have normal shoes, and dress boots that are flat. This has changed my life soooo much! I would recommend minimalist shoes to everyone
Also working through an upper back injury. Trying to do to much too soon. Taking this time to really work on flexibility!
My mom needs a little bit of arch support in her shoes, because her arches are very hollow. Too much support is bad, but sometimes a little bit is necessary for some people:) We all have different body structures with different needs:P I personally feel pain in my feet whenever I borrow my moms shoes to go get the mail or something, so I know that I don’t need any, but my mom feel pain if she ever borrows my shoes without any support at all:)
I’m recovering as well. Been doing slow miles on the tread mill and cross training on the elliptical. Had an MRI done on the knee and things look mostly good, so that’s good news. Anyways, word of caution with the cross training especially swimming. Gaining upper body mass will likely hinder your running efforts.
“they’re not paying me to review these” says the guy who got thousands of dollars of shoes for free.
Your shoes look so comfortable in your videos. So after this video I bought my first pair of Merrell Vapor Glove. And from the first day are they my favorite shoes. They are so comfortable and I enjoying extra space for my toes.
Any thoughts on numbness in to toe box while wearing toe shoes? Is there any value in gradually getting used to toe shoes as opposed to throwing them on all day when you first get them.
Wait, what? I put like 300 miles in each pair of flats I get, but then again, that’s not by choice, I would do what he does if I could.
Can you wear socks with barefoot shoes? Or is that unadvisable? I’m just looking for comfortable barefoot shoes that are “timeless”, look cool, fit well, good for Australian heat/cold and I can do/wear them anywhere.
Thank you! I’m vegan buddhist your video is Moral boost for my mind!
Thanks for all the info. I also have vivobarefoot shoes but still learning how to walk in them. Probably because I am seventy years old and have worn conventional shoes all of my life. Any suggestions?
These are fine for walking on grass in the country on a warm day or near a well maintained pool/beach area in the summer, but going barefoot would work there, too. Thin sandals won’t work in the snow and are NOT enough to protect your feet in a city. You could encounter glass shards, sharp nails, or used injection needles discarded by drug addicts. People wear shoes for a reason.
To be honest, until your “accident”, I was watching very carefully your videos and somehow I was sure that you would get injured soon. Your runs were too fast, too intensive and too many for a healthy runner like you (= not a doping one). I have to say that I am impressed by how optimistic and cool you are, despite being injured. You inspire me. Thanks.
Given the possessions you own in your wardrobe, what would you wear to a semi-formal/formal, or dressy event?
What about your shoes for going out? If you have wedding of a family member or something more dressy!
I have a bad foot so I can’t wear shoes like this but they look so comfortable and would wear them if I could. I have currently 2 pair of shoes as well
When did you get your cat? Will there ever be a back story of your cat? It looks so calm unlike the other cats that i’ve had.
I’ve watched your vlog for awhile but missed this video. Had a similar experience in a pair of Boston 4’s, miles were low 300’s and I wore for a Sunday long run. Average 603 per mile. 1600 feet of elevation and felt a twinge in the lateral right knee during the last downhill. Next day out for a easy 7 mile run, turned a 90 degree corner at mile 6.5 when sharp knee pain developed. Turned out the ends of the tibia were highly inflamed with stress fracture on MRI. I never felt the same since that day in 2015. Also never wear a pair of low cushion shoes to that total distance. I’ll only take the hoka Clifton past 400 miles these days. Loving the torins as well and will likely push distance with that shoe. I still use the Boston’s, but limit 250 max on miles and avoid fast long runs above 150 miles. Agree 100% that you need to keep track of shoe miles, especially when running fast miles.
First of all, I like the way you tell us about your lifestyle and inspire us with it without giving the impression that this is the one and only way for you. Then, I am not as minimalistic as you in many aspects. But I would like to tell here about one thing with which I have gone even a little bit further: I have left the shoes away almost completely, at least in the warmer half of the year, and I try to make very few exceptions. I love it, it feels very minimalistic and connected with the earth for me, and I am happy that I made this decision for me. I think I would stay completely barefoot if living in a warmer climate and not having some (although very rare) restrictions in my job. I also don’t want to convince anyone about this lifestyle, I just want to say that this is also an option. Thank you so much for the inspirations!
Hope you get better soon:) Looking forward to your minimalist shoe thoughts. I am trying to finally get back into shape/healthy lifestyle so I am going to start running. I’m thinking of getting the Merrel vapor glove 3 shoes. I was going to buy a pair of Nike running shoes but minimalist shoes make sense to me.
I am a 72 year old woman who is looking for my first barefoot shoes. I have been having trouble with my shoes, feet for at least a year. Went to the doctor who said I was developing a neuroma and for me to wear wide shoes. My massage therapist, male, told me to get correct toes and barefoot shoes,. I hate how his shoes looks and he loves them. I have to get over that. I need an athletic shoe and sandals. I live in a city and walk for about an hour a day on sidewalks and pavement and go to gym to work with a trainer 2 times a week. I have tender feet so don’t want the most minamal shoe. Do you have any recommendations for me.. Or even a channel for women.
Thanks I enjoy your reviews as I am trying to get used to the look. Wish there were a store I could try on. I live in the Austin, Tx area.
I have a high arch. I always chose shoes which i though were ergonomic and good quality like GEOX, running shoes, NOT flat flip flpops, etc However i was just diagnosed with corns on my foot and the doctor said I need insoles. So, not only can I not wear these super flat shoes as in the video, but I need insoles into already ergonomic shoes……I am very mad at my diagnosis because I thought I always picked out good shoes.Has anyone heard about what to do if you have high arches? Also, these flat shoes are perfect if you walk on REAL land like forest, rocks, ets. they are not for flat sidewalks. Wearing these shoes on sidewalk = other back and knee pain problems.
Is there a such thing as ‘professional kitchen barefoot/zero drop shoes’? Standing in the kitchen for years has jacked up my feet so badly; that I’m desperate to try anything. Preferably a Made in USA brand.
I have been wearing SOMs & Softstar while running errands and light walks in the concrete jungle during this lockdown period & I’m feeling a difference… or placebo?
It’s not the shoe, it’s your running technique. Runners usually get injured when their running form breaks down during hard training.
I’ve ran over 1000km on all types of shoes without problems (especially someone who’s as small as you). Ultraboost and Adidas shoes with their new foam do not lose their bounce. Your rubber should have been incinerated before the foam gives out (Mine did).
It has more to do with flaw biomechanics than anything.
Another is one should never train in racing flats except for key training runs and intervals. There’s no benefit in using them as part of the day to day training runs.
I’m from a small state of India. Socially not easy here to be a minimalist. I’m sure people may take me as loser or mentally disturbed. Whatever one’s background she/he has to be presentable and our definition of success is the materials we own. But I myself was thinking to live a simple life. I want to do it for practical reason. But I really want my old clothes and shoes to be reused. May I ask you what did you do with your old stuffs? And among the minimalists videos yours is really worth watching.
No, no, no. Your feet need support and those sandals are horrid. The sneakers are not much better. Especially with your misaligned toes, you need even more support. When you get older, you’ll be sorry you did not protect your feet better.
350 bucks for a dress shoe? Thx but no… someone else can enjoy those prices
I love the ideas you share but mostly I watch your videos to calm down. They make me feel so calm after a long day and I can finally relax and slow down. I just want to say thank you!
QD: Raced a 5K today and was fortunate to win my age group and 5th overall. This effort gives me back some confidence I was lacking since my injury this past winter, I was afraid to run fast and re-injure the same area. I can happily say that is behind me now and I can get back into training hard…but smarter. Funny how your mind can hold you back with negative thoughts.
I’ve been following outdoor footwear and making minimalist footwear since the 70’s. Please everyone, drop the footwear slang “drop”. “Drop” was made up a dozen years ago by someone who didn’t know about industry standard references to heel height for lasts and shoes. Marketers then seized this new buzzword to draw more consumers. Try this: substitute the word “heel” where you now say “drop”. Zero-heel, not zero-drop. 5mm-heel, not 5mm-drop (whether a wedge or step heel). You’ll be historically accurate and consistent too; no one goes out on the town and comments how nice the ladies look in their cocktail dresses and “high drop shoes”.
I wear penile arch support to maintain my beautiful S-shaped curve. The ladies love it 😉
God i love your energy! And you’re so funny… i just had to subscribe.
I agree and disagree here. Some people may need an arch support to train them where to distribute their weight properly, which should be on the outside of your foot. Without an arch support, people may unconsciously develop a flat arch and their feet may splay out. That could fuck up your back later on. And if you work on hard asphalt floors all day, then you probably need some sort of cushion or support, or that crap will zap all the energy right out of you. If you’re a homeless nomad moving to Thailand, playing in the grass all day, then you can get away with that. Because you’re not on hard surfaces all the time. Not hatin, just sayin.
Those flat shoes don’t give your feet the support that they need. My mother used to wear flat shoes like that when she was younger. She is in constant pain today. Can’t take walks, has to sit down all the time to get some relief from her pain. Buy good quality shoes. I can’t stress this enough!
Really hate tubers that “scream talk” it’s annoying af. Would have been much better if you would of just talked with a normal inflection.
The brand vivobarefoot is great. Especially for people who dont wanna wear these beautiful beach shoes
😉
Highfeels are also great, best barefoot sandals ever
I love flat shoes, but don’t you have heel spurs (Plantar Fasiit)? i love your videos:)
you should check out vivo barefoot, they make great minimalist winter shoes 😉
great vid by the way, looking forward for a EDC video.
QD: I ran a 11 mile long run yesterday. I ran the NJ Marathon 2 weeks ago ( 3:35 which is a BQ time for my age group) and running the Brooklyn Half this coming Saturday, but not planning to race it. I’m feeling good, but hope I don’t cross that fine line of overdoing it. As always, I appreciate your insights on running and on your injury. Here’s hoping you are healing quickly.
I tried those types of shoes when I was younger. I liked it until I stepped on a rock! Ouch. Mindful walking.
I have hip pain issues now so I’m unsure of those shoes. Swimming has helped my hip.
Hey Matt, I would definitely look into the works of Tony Riddle regarding natural postures, flexibility, barefoot running, and so on.
I recently bought some barefoot shoes after seeing them in your videos because I like being barefoot and I love them
Also, I was wondering if in the future you would talk a little bit about drinking celery juice (if you haven’t already, I may have missed it). I’m curious about the health benefits and thinking of trying it myself.
2 pairs of “minimalist” shoes in Switzerland would eventually result in frostbite.
QD: Ran 7.96 miles and finished in 58 minutes and 7 seconds wearing my trusty Peg 35. It’s a newer pair with 14.37 miles total in that pair including the 7.96 miles. I’ve been trying to wear newer pairs for longer runs and older ones for shorter recovery runs.
Another great video, always so inspiring. On another note, those cat paws so cute
…now as being a minimalist, how do record, edit & upload content like this
What do you use… and how much?
Give the Nike Epic React a try, very comfortable, cushioned, neutral trainer for slower paces. Not just a lifestyle shoe, although the sneaker heads might make you think otherwise. Good for recovery running on the road. Very bouncy and plenty of forefoot cushion, high stack height.
I’m a Lems fan for life! Those mariners look dumb but they last FOREVER and they are so comfortable. I’ve changed the insoles twice and the laces once and they’re still going after about 5 years.
Great video! I’m lucky to have a Vivo store in London so I get to try them on before I buy no return wastage. You covered every category but the dress shoe. Sadly I do have to suite up on occasion and needed a proper dress show and Vivo got the job done there at price with their hand made leather dress shoes. The original pair had a leather sole which I had replaced. I think they have upgraded that to a more durable material.
Every single company that offers these types of sandals has done nothing for grip in wet conditions (for the footbed, not the sole). Except for Shamma sandals possibly.. I need to try their new footbed material.
You forgot to mention that these are VERY expensive sandals that could cost upwards of $100/pair. So basically, this is minimalism for rich people.
This will make you cross. As I scrolled down and you see those recommended videos. One was a review videos for a range of superfeer half arch support insoles
My partner who is healthy good bone structure lived in flip-flops and bare feet due to living in a hot but poor country.
I used to use arch support Nike’s and they did damage my feet. Now, I wear converse sneakers. They are flat and feel so much better. I’ll never wear arch support again.
Thank you for ur inspiration and for introducing me to a great great teacher Thich Nhat Hanh..I’m so late to know him..Thank u.
Love all the shoes. Just wish my feet where as good looking as yours. Sigh. Would love to wear comfy sandals (bedrocks) but I’ve got a freaking size 8 which makes most shoes look kinda weird for a guy. Bigger shoes mostly look better imo.
You are correct that there is a large chunk of money needed to setup a shoe company at the beginning, things like making shoe moulds, design process, materials, storage, order fulfillment, packaging etc. Once you have that set up the costs should theoretically get less and less (relatively) as you can start to buy raw materials in larger quantities when you have the demand, and other companies that you outsource jobs to will give you better rates for giving them consistent business. This is the situation that vivobarefoot are now in, a relatively large company backed by shoe giants Clarks, yet the prices are still at a level where it seems like they have no intention of trying to start a shoe revolution
You shouldn’t walk around random neighborhoods with a selfie stick. People get murdered for that kind of shit.
Excellent vidéo! Love the concept of nutritious mouvement! Thanx for introducing me to it:-)
I’ve never thought of this before! and I also research a lot about living my healthiest most natural life. thanks for the insight:) I’ll take care of my feet better
You have an awesome style with your videos, my girlfriend and I are finding our styles with barefoot shoes but these videos REALLY helpful. You’re super entertaining to watch and we appreciate your content!
Very good video, much needed, funny too, yep i giggled…. have you tried CAMPER ‘PEU’? Yes its really called that. I’ve had two pairs each lasted about three years and would have lasted longer but my cats love to scratch the fuck out of them
Long run didn’t go as planned really. Still got 58mi for the week so I am building in the right direction. Just found out i will have off this coming weekend and will do my first trail race in over year. Very excited to get back to a trail which is where i fell in love with running. Hoping for at least 1st in Age group is the goal
I bought a pair of Xero shoes based on an older video you did. I don’t wear them much, because they don’t feel very comfortable. After these new videos, I guess I will be wearing them more often. I did wear them all day today. Not a lot of cushion, but now I know why. I will be looking for more styles. Maybe I can even find a pair to play golf in! Thanks!
I have a vivo barefoot summer shoe, and some Merrel barefoot too. They have changed my way of walking and running, so now i don’t even try to use normal shoes, even if they are not pretty.
Q:are you allowed to walk or stop within your run?
Or does have to be continuous to be counted?
Jeez,I never knew you had to track the miles on your sneakers.
I got into running because cycling is so much of a pain these days with all the traffic.
I run my easy runs with a piece of 4mm plastic on my feet; made by Xero shoes. The have changed me from having a large over pronation, also had a collapsed arch, also heel struck and had a slow cadence of 174. Running naturally fixed all of that so my feet now don’t lean inward, my arch has risen, I run on my forefoot and my cadence is around 185. I would agree that shoes don’t cause issues poor running form causes issues.
If you are someone who hikes or does anything similar outdoors and is looking for a great waterproof boot, I highly recommend the Xcursion from XeroShoes. I’ve only been on one hike with them, but they’re my favorite boot that I’ve ever worn. They still have a ground feel, but they have a bit of a thicker sole like you would want in a hiking boot. Also, they fit me very well; my toes have room to splay, but they don’t feel too loose. And the waterproofing is exceptional. When I took them out hiking, it was a cloudy day and sprinkling. I dipped the front of my boot in a stream to test how waterproof they are and no water soaked through.
5:18 a mile? Thats crazy! Im at 7:33 a mile and i feel like i cant go any faster
My boyfriend has a numb spot on the bottom of his foot, and it sounds like it’s getting worse. I wonder if these would help. I wonder how I would convince him to try them.
I believed what you said for my 20-40’s. Then in my 50’s fatigue and weakness overtook me, ankles really unstable, quads not working and because of that non crutch belief I fell and broke my ankle. Now with cane or trekking poles I can walk short distances on flat terrain. It isn’t lack of character but a rare neuromuscular disease called inclusion body myositis. There is no treatment, just encouragement to keep moving even if you need help. People need to know if they have problems with stairs, getting out of chairs, brushing hair… this is not character flaw but one of 5 myositis. Don’t beat yourself up for what you can’t help, use a cane rather than falling and breaking something.
Are the shoes only made for walking on trails or are they safe for walking on concrete city blocks and roads as well?
I heard that the cbd drops makes you fail a drug test if you ever had to have one??
Vivobarefoot are great!!
It the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn is Lems Primal 2
Amazing and durable! And light and super super breathable. And relatively Inexpensive
Whatever said and done there’s no alternative for barefooting. It’s nothing like having direct contact with Mother Nature. There’s no substitute what so ever. Why on earth are you allowing a piece leather or whatever which is a few centimeters to separate you from Mother Earth????This is pure stupidity!!
Throw away that garbage and walk barefoot in all forms of soil. There are a number of sensors/nerve endings under our feet and when we walk on gravel and and stoney surface our entire body gets a stimulation through these sensors. Apart from that the soles of our feet has an aabsorbing power(that’s how they’re created and remember our feet were meant to be bare ) Further when you have this close relationship with Mother Nature she takes care of your feet and soles. That’s why regular barefooters are blessed with beautiful shapy healthy and strong bare soles.
Pls don’t get carried away with these good for nothing footings which some people creat to meke a living. They not even comes closer to the benefits a regular total barefoot walking does to your health. Pls logon to the internet and search for ” Benefits of walking barefoot ” and go by them if you’re really interested in living a healthy lifestyle. It may hurt at the very outset as the soles of our feet are tender. But they adjust in no time.Once your feet gets adjuted you will feel the real difference. Go barefoot for good health and happy feet!!!
Have you ever tried ASICS? They’re pretty big here in Australia anyone who does marathon running here nearly always use them. cheers
If you are quite heavy, these shoes can be quite painful especially walking on non smooth surfaces. Do you suggest that losing weight and being lighter would make these more effective, easier to wear? Can you do a video on mindful weight loss?
Is there videos on your DIYs? I’d love to see them if you could share.
I bought a pair of Xero shoes when they were recommended by another minimalist YouTuber. They were the WORST sandals ever. A pair of common sandals would be $20-$30 but the Xero were $90!!!! I thought they’d be amazing. I quickly returned them and posted a poor review on Amazon. It was quickly replaced with a mountain of positive reviews. It’s difficult to trust anything these days
I just got Merrell Vapor Gloves. Bought them for running, but after trying them on for the first time I knew I want to wear them all the time. First shoes ever in my life with a roomy toe box, incredibly comfortable. Here in Holland going barefoot can’t be done year round.
Hey I just wanted to let you know, those boat shoes look so fricken good on you, and I feel like they match your personality even if you think they’re cheesy
Seth, what a coincidence. I just did a hard long-run on the adios3 yesterday. I normally only use it for shorter tempo or half-marathon distance since a year ago. I came back with sharp shin pain (I rest today and hopped on the bike instead). 1 year+ ago I was down with terrible shin pain which knocked me out for 6 mths; which I now think back, started in one of those hard long runs wearing adios too. I can now confirm the adios is the source of my shin injuries. The forefoot cushion is just too thin for me to go long and hard. But I guess for elite runners who are efficient ; it should do OK for them. Wish you speedy recovery!
If you have poor arches they can weaken your kinetic chain and cause a wide range of anatomical problems especially in your back. Its key to know if you have a high low or neutral support if you’ve been tested properly by a sports medicine professional
Hey new sub from Aussie, the vivo shoes have outdoor trail shoes that could work as winter shoes for you? They are also vegan, I just looked on their site. ❤️
Holy crap! Lems has their EU sized boulder boots for less than $50! They only have very few sizes left. Free shipping too! They had some others on sale.
Do these types of shoe help with low arch foot? I find being bare foot is much better then wearing shoes.
I am resting this week calf soreness first 5k coming next Sunday
Sorry to hear about your injuries. From all the runners I followers. Thetoo fast to often usually wins. Try biking on off days
No cushion equals pain for me and my feet and Knees I have a pair of Adidas ultra boost with a wide toe box and it’s like walking and running on clouds.
I don’t like to wear shoes. Barefoot is better… The best!!!
“Going barefoot is the gentlest way of walking and can symbolise a way of living being authentic, vulnerable, sensitive to our surroundings. It’s the feeling of enjoying warm sand beneath our toes, or carefully making our way over sharp rocks in the darkness. It’s a way of living that has the lightest impact, removing the barrier between us and nature”.
— Adele Coombs, “Barefoot Dreaming”
Mine were pretty beat up by the century mark as well.
On a side note. I’ve found that whenever my feet bother me, trying to rehab or massage or otherwise treat them feels “right”, but it sometimes feels like it can just make it all worse. I’ve been just leaving my feet alone a lot lately. And it seems to be working for me and my specific issues/experiences.
Why does she do that
Why did YouTube recommend this
And why did I click on it

I have so many questions
Hey, I did my first half marathon in Leeds UK yesterday.. Very hilly course but managed 1:26:47.. I have another in Manchester this weekend which is much flatter so hopefully I can improve on that.
I’m in highschool and I had my district race in the 3200, I advanced to the next meet (top 4) by getting 2nd. I was running with this big pack that was trying to play it slow and tactical and I decided to run away from them. My first mile was 5:05 and my second mile was 4:59, overall was a 10:04
I got myself a pair of the vibram fivefingers earlier this summer and I love them. They took a bit of getting used to but now they don’t even feel like I’m wearing shoes
Great video Seth all the very best for a quick recovery, I think we’ve all been there when we’ve had “niggle” and just trained through it
QD: first ever Marathon in Southampton Uk, last week at 3:59:25 and now signed up for another two marathon my ultimate goal in the long term is sub 3 hour but know I have a looooong way to go
I actually don’t understand why people say that minimal shoes ( Vivobarefoot) are expensive. I got my women’s Fulham boots on Black Friday. I think I paid with everything in…exchange ( I’m Canadian), taxes, duty, shipping….$200 ( Canadian). I did a comparison out of interest….if I was to go to a local store and by a pair of similar boots ( Blundstone’s for example) they were $200 plus taxes and maybe if I also got them on Black Friday I could get maybe the taxes off. So very comparable. I also did this for my Primus light runners and the JInG Jing ballet shoe. Could I find a cheaper shoe?…sure, at Wal-Mart. But I was not purchasing cheap shoes before going barefoot. The Chelsea style boots that I literally replaced with the Vivo Fulham, I originally bought for $210 plus taxes. ( the brand El Naturalista). So, I don’t find minimal shoes expensive at all and they are so much more ethical and sustainable then any other brand I ever purchased from before. And I am not old ( 40’s) and I’ve had some significant foot injuries as well as a bunion developing from bad footwear over the years….I cannot put a price on walking without pain and not deforming my feet…to me the price of Vivobarefoot footwear is worth every penny. ( I haven’t tried other brands yet) I have no affiliation to Vivobarefoot. I started purchasing Vivobarefoot in November 2019 and will gradually change over my entire footwear collection ( just what I need for each season). So far I have the Fulham boot and it was the only boot I wore all winter. For the Spring season and for walking I bought the Primus light and more for everyday I bought the Jing Jing ballet flat. I use my Primus light everyday and love them. I haven’t worn my ballet flats as the weather was still too cold and now I am in self isolation and not leaving the house for any reason. I am high risk. I will never go back to regular shoes. I do get a little frustrated that the styles and colors are so close to being perfect but are just a little bit not as stylish as I would prefer but I just keep sending them information and pictures of the styles and colors I want and hopefully they will listen and continue to improve. But I do love the Fulham boot and am so thankful they have the Chelsea boot style. So far, they really do have a boot or shoe that I like well enough to make it worth purchasing for every season and activity.
Barefoot shoes are the only things that fit my wide ass feet
Did a 30k run slow 800 metre elevation, have got a half marathon next Saturday, raining this morning coming into to winter here so hopefully by next weekend will be oh yeah what a day sun sun sunny ☀️
hey, thanks for the review! good job!
Could you tell me something about the “smelliness” of these? i try to find out, if i should order these, or the ones with the hemp footbed…
Seth funny of the timing of this vblog, but I was thinking of you during my run Sunday morning. I want to get your thoughts on whether having so many shoes in your rotation might have contributed to your injury. At times I wonder if sticking to one or two shoes during a training cycle is better than so many different types and brands. Good luck healing and I still have several things coming your way.
Good Video thanks. The list isn’t complete without the amazing GROUNDIES
is that why you Asians always drag your feet? Sorry, I don’t believe it. Please, prove it.
Someone please share with me the lyrics to this song I’ve heard before on his intro, about loving a girl’s colon.
My long run was in the Adios 4 on Sunday… Lol! I was planning on further than 22k but foot pain / legs didn’t feel springy on my 100k mileage this week. Going to only use them on training runs on track from now on after my / your experience…
I can’t stop smiling and laughing. That obese man walking down the street, getting his watermelon…..:,)
Why are the majority of the shoes not shaped like our feet? Any ideas??
He is basically the anti-Kid Rock. I love it. Well done, sir.
6:06 what is that vlog that Seth is referring to where he was crying?
I’m also very interested in how and if you give gifts to people? For Christmas, or a wedding or a birthday? What would you give, where would you buy it from and what would you wrap it in? Love love love this Chanel
last weekend ran a HM close to PB, the timing company screwed the finisher list and got my time wrong, bummer.
We see people’s true faces in their most difficult times. I’m pretty sure when I say you’re handling all this like a champ, that’s why you’ll recover stronger than ever!
Hi, would love to see a video on how exactly you made your shoes, where you got the rubber sole from etc.. Loved it!
I really reccommend anyone trying to fix their foot pain to go to a foot doctor. They will test pressure points in your walking and whether you walk normal or not. I had to buy insoles for my shoes to prevent heel pain that made my life not nice. Now that I have custom orthotics my walking has been corrected. It would be nice to live away from the city and be able to practice earthing. It is challenging where I am as there is a huge problem with needles in the wild areas near me. Concrete jungle am I right?
I don’t know why this got in my recommended. I want to have a baroque house decor and a warderobe full of suits and leather shoes. What the heck youtube XDDD
sv3rige is eating 1 year old meat… lol make a video on sv3rige again those are funny!
I was wondering if you have tried the winter and waterproof vegan vivobarefoot shoe? I live in a cold environment and was considering them for the upcoming winter season. They are pricey but would be worth it if they’re great.
Diy sandals from old ones?..I am sorry I think it is misunderstood form of minimalism…we humans are hell bent in exploiting any new ideas that pop in our lives… there is a huge difference between minimalism and penny pinching.. minimalism is not about restricting our lives and living space with 2 to 3 Colors..it makes our lives more grey if not dark..
I ran a mile (1600) at St Vrain invite yesterday. 4.38 as a 7 second PR going into the state meet this week. Should be good. Hoping to be wearing a hip #3 and coming out with some silver (Isaac Roberts, my pal, is gonna win).
Your videos are very inspiring. Do you ever walk on non-earthy surfaces with those shoes? How do your feet feel then? I’m curious to know if I can use these shoes in the city. Take care!
Dude I’m a huge sneaker head and this just messed me up when u described the squished toes and mine r just like that plus been having a lot of knee pain but its weird also cuz my favorite shoe is air jordan 1 and its sole is completely flat but squishing toes. Subbed btw
All barefoot shoes have horrible design but I wear them for other reasons.
If you’re a runner make sure to switch over gradually. Like start of running about half a mile maximum in barefoot mimicking shoes and then changeover to your normal pair to finish your run, and gradually build it up.
I made the mistake of starting off with a mile in my new Vapor Gloves and then finishing my six mile run in my Nike Frees and my calf muscles were more sore than I’ve ever felt in my life, even doing calf raises in the gym on a machine. They would actually buckle and fail the next few days at random moments descending stairs.
Now I have calves of steel, though.
So… I just ordered A pair of beach shoes. If thes doesn’t work I force you to use A pair of these…. ( link incomming ) http://uconn-today.universityofconn.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Ritual3.jpbjpg
Your other video has been the way I first came in contact with barefoot shoes, and now I have been in barefoot shoes only for a year. I recently donated and sold my normal shoes since I can’t wear them no more.
So glad you did a video on this! Love Katy Bowman:) Both my current pairs of shoes are minimalist/zero drop but I’ve also yet to find a good pair of winter boots, hopefully they exist. Where is your sister’s computer desk from, if I might ask? I’ve been using an end table for my iMac and it’s still a bit high for floor sitting, the setup you showed here looks perfect.
Jack Daniels writes that you shouldn’t run more than 20-30mins at tempo pace, or it becomes a race effort. But I agree the Adios don’t offer a lot of protection. Bostons are much more versatile.
My 2nd metatarsal broke completely last december, but this weekend I ran my first races: 200m and 400m relay. The 400m split was faster than my PR!
I tried the easy mileage approach first, but I kept getting shin splints. So now I’m taking the sprinter approach and feel a lot better!
For me i would need 3 shoes, tennis shoes, sandals, and dress shoes. I love this lifestyle
I too have Morton’s Neuroma in my left foot and absolutely cannot wear Nike shoes. About 3 or 4 years ago I discovered Altra Lone Peak shoes which are box toes and the most comfortable shoe I have worn. Altra shoes do not cause any problems with my Neuroma.
Your getting old! It does not get any better.
Just “Reflecting.”
Are You going to put a Swamp Cooler on that Fort?
Glad you mentioned the shoe. I get a lot of pain at the forefoot in my Adidas UltraBoost 19 on tempo runs. I never get that in my Nike React 2’s.
I have a pair of lems mariners and primal 2. I like the look of both of them.
QD: Went out on Saturday and got a Parkrun PB 24:18 so was super chuffed with that. Then had to split my long run on Sunday in 2, 5 miles breaking in my new trainers NB1080’s and the 7.5 in a really old pair which felt awful and hurt my foot as they were retired last year.
You are right Seth the shoes do make a huge difference and I clearly felt this in my old Ghosts, felt like the cushioning just wasn’t there for me.
hey man, just notice a broken link on your website. it’s in https://matterful.co/i/tortuga-outbreaker/ where you link to the Tortuga setout review. it directs to http://matterful.cohttp//matterful.co/i/tortuga-setout/
Totally with you on this. I’ve been wearing sanuks for ten years.
But try Teva sandals instead of flipflops, they’re well designed and don’t fall off
Don’t want shoes that look dumb…your hair looks dumb……
Dude you are totally right about this! So many misconceptions and misinformed people in this world.
Now I can too say you are not alone. Have broken my ankle. Amazing how fast things can go wrong. Life lesson
50 miles out of a shoe is useless you’d be spending fortunes!!
I have a few pairs, my Xero Prios don’t quite live up to their $170 AUD price tag IMO. Weird style and odd (wide) fit for my foot. My Bedrock Cairn Adventure sandals were $180, but I fricken love those things, trail running is an absolute blast in them. A pair of old NB Minimus Road Zero from 2013 are the gold standard for me, price was around $130 I believe. They are amazing.
Dear Seth, about your injury: My Last cross country season of high school, I bought the Adidas Adizero Adios 3. I was using them primarily for track sessions, and fartlek/ tempo work. After about 2 weeks probably only 30 miles in the shoe, I started to notice a really deep, dull pain on what felt like my tibia. I knew it wasn’t shin splints because I had plenty of experience with them in the past, and have perfected my form since then. I was always a fan of maximal cushioned shoes, and switching to such a low profile midsole really shocked my muscles and joints, I liked the feeling of going fast though, so I ran through it. My regional meet that season (what would be my last XC race ever in high school) I feel an overwhelming pain in my shin, and the muscles around it, and I step off the course and fall to the ground at around the first mile, it was the most pain I can ever recall feeling, but I still got up and forced my self to finish the race. I hobbled to the line and collapsed right as I crossed In I think just under 20 minutes. It was the worst race I have ever run in my entire life, and a bitter memory to end my high school cross country season by. After going to multiple sports therapist I found out that I had a stress fracture as well as a torn plantaris muscle, it was an 8 week period before I could even start jogging again, and another month of super low mileage before I got my full mobility back and could run pain free. As I think back and reflect on my training I have strong considerations that running in the Adios 3s caused my stress fracture because of the very minimal cushioning, and high intensity running, and you are not the only one to possibly be injured from these shoes. Hope you found this helpful and get well soon brotha
Well fuck dude figures why lems are sold out and I can’t get a pair you bought them all fucking A man leave some for the rest of us.. who the hell needs a shoe for every fucking mood I thought women did that
I couldnt continue the video, i like minimalism but sorry this is crazy we as human being need shoes
6:10 he knows about it! Man, the things you said about the hippie look are sooo true hahaha. Make more content that is not only about bags, your vibe is awesome, i want to see diferent stuff from this channel!
Running shoes are built for hundreds of miles not only 50 miles, what nonsense is this, please educate yourself before you talk nonsense like that on your channel, you just lost a subscriber.
Other vegan winter options for barefoot shoes are vivobarefoot and wildlings. I think you couldn’t find vivobarefoot winter shoes because they don’t sell those in summer, but when it gets colder they will, they usually have 2 or 3 pairs to choose from! I have their tabi hi boots for 3 years now and they are still in great shape, i believe they are made from recycled canvas and I bought them second hand:D They are the only shoes I wear each winter/fall.

altra zero drop. no arch. wide fit. funny video doe and you made good points. Foot Police
Hm isn’t that a coincidence. I got a stress fracture about 9 weeks ago and I first started to feel something in a pair of adidas Boston’s. More I wore them the worse it got until I finally had to go to the doctor. Just interesting that you were wearing the same brand
I wore 400 dollar custom orthotics prescribed by a doctor for 15yrs. After reading a few things online in my health pursuit (and because of ankle pain and annoyance of those thick slabs of plastic in my shoes), I went cold turkey and didn’t miss them for a second. Maybe they fixed my feet, but I’m leaning toward not ever needing them at all. I’ve since learned over the past few yrs that I was wearing shoes waaay too small and narrow, and that was almost definitely the culprit. Now I wear minimalist sandals as much as possible and I have strong healthy feet. Free your feet ppl!!
What kind of movement or activity nourishes you? Do you practice yoga? If so, what’s your favorite pose?
I just want some work boots that have a wide toe box. That should be the priority. A proper toe spread is hugely beneficial. And I don’t want a thin sole on my boots. A small drop instead of zero drop would be smart too, avoid calf and Achilles tendon issues.
QOD: 9 miles with 1200 feet of elevation. Nice new trail up on the hills, I’ve done way more gain before but this one was straight up and straight down
I found that they helped reduce ankle sprains for me. Also, I would avoid standing in the same spot for long periods while wearing these shoes. That is the only time i experience pain with them.
Thank you for your videos and all information, it is very helpful!
when I was a kid, in the 80s, orthopedic shoes were a must. Result: total disaster.
They tried to solve a muscular imbalance with adding support to a yet weak foot. I’m still paying in these days.
This probably would have happened with any strap sandals, but after 2 days of use I developed bad blisters in between my toes where the straps go. The blisters were only on my right foot though, my left foot was totally fine. Did I do something wrong with the straps on one of the sandals or do my feet just need to get used to the straps?
Seth further on reflection I do think your injury came from running in so many different shoes. Your feet likely never got a chance to adapt to 2-3 pair from consistent runs.
As for me, I ran 13.2 miles today. A 1-mi warm up followed by 12-mi at 7:13 pace. All to build endurance.
Thanks for the great vlogs. Wishing you a speedy recovery
I live in Florida.
Everyone wears sandals!
I’m a buyer for a shoe store and I am eager to add more true barefoot stuff. I am a big believer in barefoot footwear.
A big thumbs up for the soft shoe with no arch support advice. I have recently gone back to wearing a dunlop soft shoe and my feet, ankles, and knees feel so much better! My collection of arch support shoes are headed for the bin!
My vivos have lasted awhile and very tough, zero are most stylish and I like them the most but quality is not as good.
Hey chase, great review! I’m just converting over to barefoot shoes because I know my body needs them! But its hard!! I love, love love my vans. So doing the research and on the look out for some barefoot alternatives that don’t totally dumb! I’ve started with a pair of Vivo’s. I love that most of these company’s seem to have a great ethical stance too! Have you come across Groundies? I’d like to see some reviews for some of their shoes as they look interesting!
Happy Mother’s Day Brigid! I am having the BEST Mothers Day ever because my Son & wife just told us they are having a BABY! My first grandchild!!! Thank you God!!!
Poor arches are a sign of weak muscles in the foot. The advice in this video is spot on and barefoot shoes or just walking barefoot on uneven surfaces will create and strengthen your arches.
Excellent!!! I have flat feet—is the video you were speaking of for flat feet on your subscribed page?
20miles on the big I have the same injury as you my friend. 7weeks still hurt. hop you get better
I have to wear shoes because I have one leg shorter than the other. Which has also caused me spine and pelvic problems.
So basically
My left foot has flat arch compared to my right.
My toes are wide.
My my right leg is shorter than the left.
My hips are tilted more forward
My lower spine is more curved inwards
My shoulders are not quite level which makes my right arm feel longer
When I walk bare feet I can’t not get very far because of the pain in my hip and back.
So what is better
Seth, hope you’re out running soon! Someone as positive as you deserves good karma!!
Question for the next Q&A during your time running ultras (and could extend to this marathon cycle), what did the week before a race look like for you? Currently entering the final week and trying to balance having fresh legs with keeping them ready to go fast I trend toward wanting fresh legs and can get the turnover through quick efforts during an easy run but curious how you approach it?
have you got any recommendations of what footwear to use for hikes? i’m travelling to Canada in September to BC and Alberta, gonna be doing some hikes around the Rockies etc… any advice?
QD: I was on half marathon in Polish mountains, three weeks after twisted ankle, so was running easy on downhills:)
I don’t feel like having my feet constantly feel like they’re being ripped apart in the arch when I step
Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, as there are more than a few comments here, but Jambu has a line of vegan shoes that might work for you, when it’s time to replace your current shoes.
Because it’s a niche market, and the rule of scarcity, and the need to make large profits…
But 99 miles in a shoe is nothing, no?
It’s recommanded to change a pair of shoes every 500 to 800km, correct?
Or I didn’t understand what you said (in French)
Good luck with your injury btw!
I tried to use you aff links and they’re broken, thought you might want to know. Tried the carets and vivo links
Hi. Your video have become a real inspiration for me. I was wondering if you could do a video on how you made/tied your huaraches. Thanks so much.
Feel better Seth! I’ve had a similar experience with the Adios not having enough cushion. Which shoe do you think is the best choice for tempo runs?
QD: I ran a 10K this weekend for second place overall. Fun, local race in NJ! Hopefully faster next time:)
Reminds me of Steve Martin The Cruel Shoes https://youtu.be/feTrJSWnqdk LOL
Minimalist shoes don’t have to be expensive. They are made by slave labor. By very poor people and kids. Don’t be fooled by the lying bullshit marketing and advertising. The designers, manufacturers, marketing and advertising companies inflate the prices because they know they will get the asking prices for their products. Having a foot with a low arch is NOT an anomaly or in any way anatomically imprecise. It is simply genetics and biological architectural variants and nothing more. Like the rest of the body, the feet need to be strengthened and also made flexible. All of this is easy to accomplish.
