I love bread, my whole wheat organic seed bread is 140 calories and 4 grams of fiber 6 grams of protein per slice. Make a peanut butter sandwich with a tablespoon of chia seeds in the peanut butter and i can get 12gs of fiber and 22g of protien for 420 calories. And greg the unateral part of peanut butter is hydrogenated fats which is not good for weight lose. Oh and some people dont have time to fetishize our calories. Popcorn takes to damn long to eat. Oatmeal ftw. But yeah I get if you can’t “put down the fork” why popcorn is good for that.

The main reason why rice is on the list for being not the best choice on a regular dieting basis is because rice digests too fast and spikes your insulin levels and you feel even hungrier after you eat it. You would be more full if you ate nothing. That’s why lean meat keeps you full longer than anything nutrition wise.
Net Carbs are the total carbs. Why they subtract the carbs from fiber is that your body cannot digest fiber. We need fiber for regularity and for proper production of bile acids from the liver (helping to regulate some cholesterol). I feel like you are being super misleading whenever you show us volume. Per volume unit of popped popcorn, there has to be something like 95% air, so holding up those two bowls just made me lawl. I bet they wouldn’t look much different if you showed us the volume unpopped.
So glad I found this video. After watching this video, I went on a shopping trip with my family and I found a sale on olé Mexican foods tortillas. I picked their sprouted whole grains option, which had a short list of ingredients. In fact, the only thing I couldn’t read were the dough conditioners. It was an amazing price (8 packages for $2.99) and had some decent numbers.

The only way to get 100% whole wheat is to pay $5 a loaf or make your own. I had to start baking my own because that $5 loaf was too expensive for me and I’ve cut out high fructose corn syrup, which is in most breads, because I’m a diabetic. I only eat bread about twice a week so I freeze my homemade bread and take out 2 slices when I want it. Of course you have to slice before you freeze. If you use dry yeast and tap hot water your yeast doesn’t need sugar.
My problem is trying to gain weight while never really liking bread and getting bored of it. Potatoes, rice and bananas seem to be filling alternatives.

oats are cooked with water so this is not correct. try eating wet weight oats it’s actually harder to eat than popcorn. the popcorn’s air is taking up space until it’s chewed so it takes up much less space in the stomach than the wet starches

Ole Mexican Foods makes the Xtreme Wellness High Fiber Low Carb whole wheat flour tortilla; for a 45 gram serving, it’s only 50 calories, has 11 grams of fiber and only 1.5 grams of fat. Net carbs are 5 grams (16 total). Made in America. A nutritional bargain.
The Net carbs is refering to the insulin spiking carbs…as we all know fiber does not spike your insulin and actually aids in moving bad carbs out and preventing them from spiking insulin as well..so the net is just refering to the leftover bad carbs that will still have an effect on your body. Not all carbs are equal…thats like claiming all protien is the same and saying pea protien is same as whey or animal. Its just not and all have diff impacts to your bodys functions.
Fiber won’t be digested, that’s why it’s net carbs. You’re not digesting it, it doesn’t count. Though with that specific tortilla they’re using modified food starch as the fiber, which I’m not sure whether that’s actually fiber and or acts as fiber. Other brands use powdered cellulose which is actually fiber which definitely cannot be digested. I’d like to find a tortilla recipe for something with 25g of fiber and 30g of protein, wheat gluten, and then with corn.

I usually eat corn tortillas but I do buy. A brand called Ole Xtreme wellness High fiber low carb. On front says no hydrogenated oils, no sugar added. It has 50 cal, 1.5 total fat, 16v carbs, 11g fiber, no sugar and 4g protein. First 3 ingredients are whole wheat flour, water, cellulose flour. Still not the best but the macros are good.

I usually agree with everything you say, but a few things in this video triggered me because you seem quite biased:
1. You’re using white rice, and white bread as your examples. They’ve had the vast majority of their fibre and nutrients stripped away from them when the bran is removed. Of course they’re not healthy.
2. When talking about which will make you fuller, you compare the volume of prepared popcorn vs unprepared oatmeal. That is biased and incomparable. Popcorn is full of air. It’s not very dense. Raw oatmeal is much more dense, and after cooking, its volume increases substantially, exactly like popcorn does. If you ground down prepared popcorn into flour and added water, the difference in volume would not be nearly as shocking as you make it out to be.
3. You recognise that toast is fast digesting, but state that by covering it in egg whites, that greatly reduces the absorption rate because they’re full of protein. But then you state that rice cakes which are also fast absorbing, are still fast absorbing after covering them in peanut butter, which is high in protein and fat; both of which slow down digestion. You seem biased on this.

Your analysis of Ezekiel bread versus white bread in terms of raising your blood glucose level is complete and utter bullshit as they are virtually the same when it comes to raising your blood glucose levels. Substituting Ezekiel bread for white bread will result in the same spiking of your glucose

You mentioned sodium (salt, NaCL) at the end of your presentation. I am on a low sodium diet, and I found that I can pack any low sodium ingredients into a wrap. However, as you mention, just ONE flour tortilla wrap, itself, can be loaded with sodium. I checked several brands of white and whole wheat flour wraps, and found the range of sodium was between 192mg and 660mg per tort!! I switched to corn tortillas that have zero sodium. Unfortunately, I cannot find a corn tort in an 8″ diameter size, and it’s hard to get a full meal into a smaller tort. Tortillas are now the staple of my low-salt diet. You can put just about any mix of meat and vegetables into them. I usually buy a roast chicken, remove the skin, and use that as my meat base, and load it with any variety of veggies as accompaniment, and it makes a complete meal. It’s especially great for those who are not cooks. Use a grater on the veggies to make them easier to pack into a small wrap. Think beyond lettuce. Any veggie. Corn tortillas separate easily, so it helps to zap then in the micro for 20 seconds on a plate, which makes them more pliable, and less likely to fall apart. Add a bit of salsa. See the sal in salsa? That’s salt just use less. You only need the flavor. Since I’ve been on my tortilla diet, my BP has gone back to normal. Daily exercise is a must. Walk 20-30 minutes every day. Can’t go outside? Walk in a circle in your home, or back yard. Use a timer. For breakfast, try microwaving a sweet potato/yam. It makes a great breakfast for low-salters. If you use butter, or margarine, you don’t need much. An added advantage is that you can lose weight, unless you’re a snacker. Snacks? Substitute finger-size carrots, or celery, in place of potato chips.

Come to Europe and try our whole wheat bread. We do not use (as much) sugar in our bread. Fresh whole wheat buns with a piece of (Gouda) cheese and cucumber is honestly the best thing. I couldn’t live without my bread.
Could anyone please help me? I bought tortillas today and when I checked the nutrition facts on the back I found that they had 300cal per 100g so how come the whole wrap he made has 300cal?
Those aren’t whole wheat tortillas those are regular tortillas I know what regular tortillas look like and those are regular those aren’t wheat tortillas

Oats most certainly do have some great goodness that the refined carb sources do not. Highest protein of the bunch in the list and actually has micro-nutrient value. Get them oats!
Most whole wheat breads at supermarket shelves are fake, manufactured food… no different from WonderBread with a little addition of fiber and molasses.

Sorry to say, but you don’t have any clue about whole wheat bread. To bake bread you don’t need any sugar, honey or corn syrup, what shown,,Baking bread the old fashion way includes, Wheat, salt and water….More important is to have certified organic flour….definitely whole wheat bread is healthier if produced the right way, and has no sugar…you can add other healthy ingredients, like walnuts, hazelnuts or chia seeds

so what i learned from doing Keto years back is that net carbs are important to look at when following a low-carb diet because the fiber cannot be digested for fuel in your body. Of course, fiber is still important in our nutrition but I was taught that those carbs were not burned for calories like the other carbohydrates. Quest bars, for example, market net carbs because many low carb dieters (who are their prime target groups) already subtract fiber from total carb counts in order to track their carb intake. I don’t think it’s purely marketing ploy, I think for people trying to follow a low carb diet it is important to know what net carbs means

Wraps are better as specially if you wanna lose weight because wraps are the thinnest and flattest bread that probably has low carbs than regular bread does.

I am not sure if you are aware but “masa” is Spanish for dough. It should not be confused with “corn flour”. You might want to use “Maseca” as a synonym, which is the corn flour leading brand in Mexico.

I eat “roti” (Indian flat bread made from wheat flour and not refined flour. There’s a big difference). Ive learned to eat oatmeal again. Ive mixed 1 half cup Quaker oats, 1 cup water, 2 spoons white sugar, 1 cold , springed cinnamon. I felt as when i was a child, warm n felt healthy. However do u have any ideas to replace white sugar? I dont like brown sugar.

I don’t know but I substituted eating white to eating flour tortillas. White rice is very very high in the glycemic index white flour tortillas are only 30 per piece in the glycemic index.

Thank you for this information! Dr. recently told me I have wheat belly? I made sure to eat wheat if I was eating bread, and always chose wheat because that was a healthier choice not anymore! This is because of what is being done to the wheat, we are not eating the same wheat today that our parents did, and it is not harvested the same way either!
