Simple Ways to Do More Sit-Ups Review the Principles of Exercise Science. Before you begin your sit-up training workout, it’s helpful to understand the Perfect Your Technique. Before you start cranking out multiple reps, you need to make sure your sit-up form is perfect. Determine Your Baseline.
Perform your situps on an incline. Decline boards are ideal for this option, which reduces the strain on your upper body and makes it much easier to do a situp. Position yourself so that your legs.If your goal is to do more sit-ups, you’ll need to improve your overall core strength and endurance.
Consider using a variety of different abdominal exercises in the early weeks of your training to build good core strength and stability, which will make the specific sit-up exercise easier in the following weeks.start with the basic sit-up workout. Do your sit-up workout every other day (such as Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Warm up with a slow jog, cycling on a stationary bike, or jumping rope. Perform your basic workout with three sets of repetitions with a 30-second rest between each set.
Slowly bring your legs back to center. From center, lower your legs as far as they will go down to your right side. Hold for a second before returning to center. Use a bent leg if necessary to make the exercise more achievable, and work toward a straight leg as you progress.
Strengthening your abdominal muscles can help you to improve your situp technique and the amount of situps you are able to complete. You can strengthen these muscles through exercises that either focus on your stomach or include this area such as core stability work.As you get stronger, try a Pilates variation to this exercise: Instead of holding your hands behind your head or on your shoulders, keep your hands straight next to your torso and as you rise into the sit-up, glide the arms forward and then raise the arms at the same time as your torso and stretch them forwards.
Do 186 situps in 1 minute sets with a goal of 40–50 situps per minute. This should take you 4–5 sets done through your workout for four days straight. Days 9–10: You change the timed sets to.It’s easy to see the havoc that wreaks on the lower back, and it’s similar to what’s happening with most situps. While performing a slow and controlled situp can work fine to build one.
So the best way to do sit ups at home is to do crunches, and to do crunches, you will find that you have to basically do half sit ups. Confusing? Not to worry, all will be explained. And to do so, we will first take a look at how we would normally perform a sit up.
Perform five sets of weighted situps. Hold a dumbbell high on your chest, and select a weight that allows you to complete half as many situps as you did for your first set on your previous training day. Follow this with side bends for your obliques.
Hold a dumbbell in one hand while standing up with your back flat.These sit-up and crunch variations turn the classic move into something more interesting. Plus, you’ll find that many of these are a bit more difficult than the average sit-up, which means you’ll really carve that six pack.
Try this 10-minute workout featuring 10 sit-up variations, and your abs will feel the burn. 1.To perform a proper situp: Lie down on your back. Bend your legs and place feet firmly on the ground to stabilize your lower body.
Cross your hands to.Nice and slow. One, slow on the way down. Two, three, four.

If you read the army regs, your knees have to stay at 90 degrees the whole time damn near. If your legs are straight as you mentioned, they are not counted. It even says that if the knees exceed 90 degrees that they are not counted.

The push up technique should actually be based on which muscle is strongest, your chest or tri’s. If your chest is stronger go wider, if it’s weaker go closer. For the acft you are limited to a close stance, so if your chest is stronger turn your finger tips inward
I seem to have this problem where my hips lift off of the ground when I’m trying to do my sit ups. I know I have a weak core right now but is there something I’m doing wrong that would cause this? I feel like I could do so many more if I didn’t have this problem. What am I doing wrong? Lol

FYI, to anyone attending Ranger Assessment and Selection…be careful doing push ups in the manner that they show in this video. When I went through we were straight up told that ‘tricep pushups’ would not count.

Here is a lesson about the importance of “specificity of training”. I have been a power-builder for about 5 years now and I am squatting and deadlifting above the 400s and rack pulling 635lb, I can only do 25 push ups in a row and 12 sit ups before gassing out and cramping up. This is because I have not done sit ups and push ups since high school (a decade ago) and my body is not used to them at all. Since I finally decided to join the army a week ago, I’ve been improving on all fronts. My point is gym strength does not translate into endurance movements like push-ups, sit-ups and mile runs. Which is fucked up and so unfair.

I guess every branch is different. Coast Guard sit-ups = fingers/hands cupped beside ears. No interlocking behind the head.

Is not really a cheat for the military there is a workout for strengthening your body and one to pass the test. For the first option, there is a ton of information available while the latter is more focus on energy and efficiency. The military does not give a damn how much a proper position push up or sit-ups you do as long you meet the required position. Is better to create a push-up and sit up routine for the test that focuses on numbers since that is how everyone is graded.
At drill sergeant school I wasn’t allowed to use the sit up cheat… Just letting you know lol

2. For example, if right now, I can do 20 sit-ups without stopping, how many days would it take for me to do 80 sit-ups?
3. Can i do sit-ups on the concrete, if not, on what ground material I should do sit-ups on?
4. About holding feet, does it work on any holding feet, or it must be someone holding my feet for 400% increase sit-up to work?
5. Could I do the upper half first, then the lower half?
6. Will it work very well if I do it 10 sets?

In air Force on situps do a crunch not a sit up and touch your elbows low on your thighs.

Hey I appreciate the video but could you make like a whole workout routine for a week I just did the push up exercise should I do this one right after..?could you make a day by day workout routine to get in shape for basic I leave soon
he hasnt got a clue in any of his training clips
firstly you never lock your hands behined your head for any kind of sit-up (its just not done)
secondly hes contradicting himself by saying to add weight to the excersise as the weigh would
only make the ab area stronger, not what your after what you actually want to do is add endurance and
be able to do a high number of reps
nothing fancy needed (any decent military guy will know this) do your maximum (say 10 reps +1 to fail)
next session (3 per week is ideal) 12 reps +1 to fail and so-on, addind 2 to 3 reps per session
you should easely be able to add atleast 6-8 reps over a week, thats 24 to 32 over a month
thats ontop of your starting reps (but 10 should be an easy start point)
and thats allowing 12 weeks before any start on training (if your talking military) so work out the maths
you should be able to exceed any of your goals with the above method
also if you really want to make this excersise harder (i mean if you can push-out a 100 quite easly)
send the little girl home, and do the excersise with your feet flat on the floor (not weighted at all)
and then do the excersise without your feet comeing off the floor

Ty for the tip, im searching for tips because I might do this test to join the brazilian air force. I was doing it wrong, maybe that’s the reason i strugle so much to do sit ups. The sit up is a little bit different, we have to go all the way up and touch our ewbows in the distal third of upper leg(near the knee).
I’ve been doing 3 sets of 2 min planks and 2 sets of 3 to 5 min of non stop flutters plus hanging from a pullup bar and doing leg raises until failer for about 3 sets.
I do this every other day until basic. And the key is when you get used to a routine, increase the intensity.

I can do 65 in 2 minutes and feel like I could bang out another 25 or so but don’t have the time. It takes me a little under 2 seconds to do 1 rep:(

I would say not to have your hands behind your head when doing sit-ups or a motion like this. Keep your arms across your chest with your hands on your shoulder but not squeezing your shoulder or grabbing your shirt
I did three years with the 10th SFG and can tell you that I never thought of or heard of any one cheating on the pt test it would just be so wrong

I use the sit up bench that holds you by your shins, sadly i can only use it for declines. So all of my sit up exercises are on a 5 degree decline and it kills me

Just wonderful, I have been researching “youtube sit ups” for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried Bondraw Firm Ferriferous (should be on google have a look )? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my partner got amazing success with it.

I followed the parameters from this program for push-ups and sit ups. I increased my push-ups by 66% and sit-ups by 27%. Day 1 push-ups (PU) were 60/ Day 14 100 PU. Day 1 sit-ups 52 (SU)/ Day 14 66 SU.
I would recommend this program if you have a PT test within 2 weeks and you are coming off the couch to throw a hail marry and pass the test.
I will do this program again in the future. Highly recommend.

Holding your hands behind your head like that is NOT a good idea unless you want to do neck crunches, and no one wants to do that. Put your hands to your temples when you do the sit up and keep your neck straight unless you want arthritis in it when you get older.
You are giving my trade secret away on the situps…nobody has a measuring tool for 90 degrees….especially wearing some baggy pt pants .

Don’t ever do that you’ll injure your neck soon, don’t push neck but use hands beside your ears try to push with mid body,don’t push neck with hands.
Though a late comment, since this is a pretty old video…the information is a bit incorrect. Your abdominal muscles are all the same muscle group, you cannot work them in halves. Similarly why leg raises are a waste of time unless your aim is to work your hip flexors.
When you do a sit up, regardless of whether you start from top and go half down, or bottom and go half up, you are placing tension, albeit a small amount, on your abdominal muscles as a whole.
Also, if at the end of the repition your spine is not curved, like a C, roughly, you are not placing enough tension on your abdominal muscles to result in much if any muscle or core strength building at all.
He never mentions how much rest between sets. Does anyone now? or is it straight just 30 seconds in between?

Honestly this video is gonna be more in the back catalog for the time being. Somehow even though I have a semi-serious gut to trim sit-ups are the one exercise that gives me next to no problems so long as something is holding me feet flat to the floor.
I’ll try it this way…because my lower back hurts each time I do sit ups.

Imo sit ups suck the worst haha. Push ups are easy for me and I gotten better at running. I can do sit ups but jeez they suck
He mentioned P90X. I did that program for only one month and my PT score was the highest I’ve ever Had. This ab workout is awesome! But if you’re the type of person who has issue with motivation alone, P90x is a great way to workout because you have someone telling you what to do. In my personal opinion.

Hey man, good video. But I have a question.
I am a TOTAL beginner here. I have done stuff like kickboxing, including a bunch of endurance and muscle training in the past, of course not focused on building bulky muscles as mobility was the prime focus. But I have not really done sports in a bit over 3 years now. I am starting again by doing a daily workout at home, because I have been getting into bouldering but noticed my endurance is shit compared to 3 years ago.
Now my question is this. Without any support, right now I cannot do a full situp. I never thought about locking my feet in place. Now that I locked my feet, I can manage a full situp without much issue at all. But honestly, it feels like my legs are doing the work compared to my abs.
So the thing is, how do I know I am even training my abs properly here? It feels like I am merely lifting my body up into the sitting position via a lever mechanism through the legs. Is it ok if I feel all the weight on my legs rather then my abs? Because now I am unsure if I should lock my feet in place or not, or what to do against that feeling that my legs are being trained rather than my abs.
When it comes to pure position, I believe what I am doing looks like what you are doing in the video. Not moving the relative positions of my body at all and simply lifting my torso into a upright sitting position.

Everyone in the comments is missing the point, the real way to cheat is by wearing the pt belt. This will maximize your strength and allow you to pass your pt test. Observe

if you can do sit ups without someone holding your feet is gonna be easier than when someone does. So like me i can do 70 without holding my feet and 160 holding them.

Yeah this is pretty killer with no breaks damn lol had to skip the V UPS just cause i roasted my self with the initial stuff. Definitely will keep trying this along with your push up routine and see how far I can get off body weight manipulation with some weights. I will admit my diet is pretty bad it is conducive to bulking but my protein I feel is still low.

I’ve been watching your videos for a while, and I swore in at MEPS for the Marine Corps on Monday. The liaison for the USMC made me and the other guy do situps and pullups before having us come back for the interview/drilling and I was only able to do 29 situps. I knock the pullups out of the park but I knew before i got there that I was extremely weak when it came to situps. I tried like hell several times but couldn’t get all the way back up, and he finally just stopped the clock. It’s now Sunday, almost a week later, and I still feel it in my stomach. It doesn’t hurt but it’s like, weak or something. All that to say I really appreciate this video and know I have a lot of work to do on this area before I ship out. I’m confident in my progress in every other area of PT but I suck at situps lol so thank you.
Word of warning do not put your hands behind your head when doing sit ups you can strain your neck pretty bad. Best way of doing them is hands across your chest and then do the sit ups that way it prevents neck injury. I learnt that from my pti in the British Army.

The regulation states legs must be at a 90 degree angle during the APFT. So yes that’s a cheat and if your grader does what he or she is supposed to do that repetition will not count. The other cheat would be to not go all the way down or all the way up during the pushup to be able to knock out more pushups.

Am I crazy or are his forearms and calves super, super small? Like, at first I thought it was a visual trick, but I think he may have literally skipped some leg days or something.
For my situps my back tends to straighten out and I’ll be stuck in the bottom position an I have to use my lower back to lift myself up. I have to have a rounded back to complete and pass my pt test. My situps are the part that concerns me the most.
How? Elaborate on that. How are you supposed to straighten your legs?

@V Shred I find that when I use the correct form, although i do find it harder to do the sit up, I don’t feel the burn as early on. Am I doing it right? Also are you meant to feel a stretching-type “pain”/burn in your sort of sode/back when doing it or am I doing it wrong?

You are not supposed to bend your neck when sitting up. Which is a mistake he made. Unless you are allowed to do that in the military.
Pushups are about to change if im not mistaken. Chest to floor and break hand contact with ground, then up again and repeat.

I’m going to try this method. I’m 42, at 38, the most situps I did for an APFT was 81. Now, just 4 years later, I’m only doing around 55. Just doing the standard all the way up just isn’t working. I’m doing these now for a few weeks. Then do as many full situps as I can to see if it works.

This is just superb, I been tryin to find out about “right sit ups” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across Bondraw Firm Ferriferous (do a google search )? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my neighbour got excellent results with it.
Except they always force me into a fetal position on the situp so it’s tighter than 90 before I even sit up. I hate that… my calves are against my thighs at the top. Could do so much more if straighter for sure. Depends on the grader.
I do around 32 in one minute, i want to do 42 in one minute.

Maxed the sit up event for 29 years and over 100+ tests. Prep consisted of 3 sets of 30 situps on 45 degree incline board with bent knees, 30 to 60 seconds rest between sets. Using elbows & shoulders to create momentum is on point. There is also the aspect of contracting your back to maintain speed to max an create momentum with a bit of bounce off bottom.
I can do 300 situps in a row with 45 pound plate so if this works…
Does the instructor allow you to do sit ups just the way you’re showing us? In another meaning, does he care if you close your knees or open them while performing sit ups?
I notice I naturally straighten my legs throughout the situp exercise. It goes from Abs to Hip flexors naturally that way.

about to rock your world. having your feet down makes it a hundred times harder. when your feet are flat your hip flexer is disengaged meaning all the work is in your upper core. point your toes up and youll notice a world of difference. I would practice with feet flat for extra resistance, then when test time comes point them toeies up and max out
During the sit up event, the legs may not exceed a 90 degree angle. If the legs exceed 90 degrees at anytime the repetition will not count.
Would love to see some ocean swim tips! I’m told in BRC ocean swims will be very common. Tips on breaking the surf while on zodiac would be a great help, but I understand if it can’t be done since using a zodiac in a vid would be very hard
