Making this now, about half way through the recipe, can’t wait to eat it!! So I just finished this, I will say that there wasn’t enough meat sauce, bechamel and ricottta to make four layers, so I had to make three layers, and the ricotta curdled slightly, but it was still very tasty.
Thanks for the video content! Apologies for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you tried Millawdon Beauty Food Trick (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for understanding the best foods for amazing skin and hair without the hard work. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cooworker after a lifetime of fighting got cool results with it.
I do that half-and-half trick in my lasagna, too. But I put spinach and zucchini our half and leave it off for the kids.
But the tomatoes themselves are what’s tangy, removing ketchup probably won’t solve it
Such a useless video. Thanks for wasting my time!! Still no solution to decrease acidity in tomato sauce.
omfg…..i cant believe her suggestions. italians in italy are laughing their heads off…baking soda? lol
Okay I could only stand to watch this for less than a minute after she said make tomato sauce without tomato sauce!! She may be an intelligent lady but she sounds silly here. I just wanted to know what to add to cut the acidic taste in my jarred spaghetti sauce.
This reminds me of those videos that tell you how to make a really good steak.
Step one: Buy a really good steak
Lol.
The simplest way to remove the acid is throw in four whole carrots cook the carrots in the sauce until they become soft remove the carrots and throw them away while cooking in the sauce they have absorbed the acid. Do not eat these carrots unless you want the worst heartburn you will ever have.
You cannot lessen the acid reflux problem by adding butter or dairy, because both increase and activate PEPSIN, the real cause of acid reflux. Reading “Dropping Acid” by Koufmann. This is why in order to reduce reflux, you eliminate fat AND acidic foods. That said, if all you want to do is reduce the acid CONTENT of the food because it just TASTES too acidy, you do have a point.
My grandmom and gramps taught me to add sugar to tomatoe sauce to balance the acidity! it works!
How can pasta sauce not have tomato in it? And how do you reduce acidity if sauce is store bought? Add baking soda?
0:20, great f***ing advance:D cant wait for her next how-to-video “how to fix a problem child” 😉
Its amazing…..everything that is said in this video is completely wrong.
LMFAOOOOo “animal proteins are lower in acid” That’s not what your body thinks!! Those are some of the most acidic foods and high acid foods contribute to cancer.
oh great, make the sauce heart disease-able with dairy. now the sauce contributes to heart disease.
Two weeks ago I tried my first nomato sauce. My husband and I were both super surprised how much it tasted like an actual tomato sauce (used it for deconstructed cabbage rolls…yum!). But then I tested my blood sugar afterward (I was prediabetic in the past, but keep it in check by watching my carbs). I was so disappointed to see that it jacked my blood glucose up super high! My guess is that it’s just too many carby veggies all at once for my body to tolerate. A smaller amount might be tolerable. I’ll have to experiment to see. We all have our health challenges…lol.
I was glad to see you using California Olive Ranch for our olive oil. Did you hear how some brands are cutting their oils so they’re not 100% pure? I stick with COR myself. http://www.thefoodjourney.com/fake-olive-oil-avoid-these-brands-and-recognise-when-its-authentic/
And what a nice surprise to find herbs growing in your garden at this time of year!
How do you make another batch of tomato sauce without tomato sauce?
I just add my semen to the mix it really gets rid of the acid taste
Tomatoe sauce is acidic by nature, use a little baking soda this will neutralize better than all the other things mentioned here. dilution and masking with sugar/ sweeteners ect… doesn’t fix the acidic level just makes the sauce sweet with the bitter after taste just masked over. Bring your sauce to a light boil then put in about 1/2 tsp per 28 oz can of sauce plus paste. If you put too much baking soda in it will taste on the soda side. Fold it in for a couple minutes then taste it. When your happy with the taste of the sauce then add what ever spices you use. This will also cut the cooking time down by hours. Take a taste of the sauce before you add any baking soda, then add the baking soda 1/2 tsp take a taste then maybe a pinch or 2 and you will have a neutral tasting sauce
.
A little bit of this. A little bit of that! Pow! Lol. Trader Joes was out of Pasta Sauce so I picked up canned Depression ready Organic Tomato Paste. Just kidding. At least I can go hiking with my kid and check out Drama Free Idaho away from Newsom Madness San Francisco. Happy St. Patrick’s Day. No St. Patty’s Day stamps at my local Post Office and it wasn’t because of the Corona Virus. Awesome! Keep building those Mosques!
A little bit of red pepper and it’s supposed to be heartburn free OK sure
I wouldn’t touch that sauce with a ten-foot fucking pole. Fucking guidos probably call themselves Italian when they know shit about what living in Italy really is. So typical of Italian Americans especially in big cities. I never had anchovies in any sauce: in New York, in southern Italy, in central Italy or northern Italy. If you like it, fine, and I’m sure areas use it in Italy, but shut your mouth and chill with the shit of saying “anyone who don’t like anchovies, I don’t like them.” like you’re Mister fucking Italian cuisine. Fucking idiot.
Theyre trying to make low acid tomato sauce and then they ADD garlic? Lol. These fahkin goombas!
I’m sure you have a ton of requests….but when you have some time, can you show me different herbs and spices replacements? I’ve already bought and dehydrated fennel bulb and then I purchased some celery and took the peppery center, dehydrated that and it smelled just like the celery seed I tossed out. Well that opens 2 more spices/herbs I can use again….the yellow mustard was fantastic, I have some separated and frozen. With the celery seed I’m going to try to use that to make some proper pickles…but it got me to thinking about common herbs and spices replacements.
Thank you so much for this recipe, Stacey. Due to medications she is taking, my wife has developed a plethora of allergies late in life (may God destroy the pharmaceutical industry), and tomato is one of them. Every second Sunday, she makes the best pizza the world has ever known, but she was no longer able to eat her own sauce. She tried a variety of pestos, which were okay but just not the same. We tried this tonight and it will be our standard from now on. Way to go!
What can I use if I am allergic to Pumpkin and beets? Currently on Immuno-Calming diet and I am missing my tomato sauce badly. Thank you!
I’m hoping to try some of your faux recipes soon! My daughter seems to be having a reaction to tomatoes so we’re trying to illuminate nightshades all together ❤️
Love your content! can you just confirm, is using non grass fed meat ok as I can’t always afford to eat grass fed. Hence it isn’t sustainable for me? i’m based in the uk and the animals are free from anti biotic and hormones but do consume grain as part of there diet! Thanks
I am new to AIP trying to think of life w/o tomatoes. I finally made this last night and teared up when I taste it. It sooo crazy how it looks and tastes like tomato marinara. I could hug you right now!!!
I thought i was the only person allergic to tomatoes! Every time i say that to my PC doctor she looks at me funny
How long will that last in the fridge? Is it something you have to use right? Can you freeze it so you always have some on hand?
I knew I would find the answer a lot faster than googling. I was thinking of just using squash or pumpkin for marinara sauce. It would have the red color and even thiugh I use beets, I dont really ise it besides juicing or steaming. Anyway I and really HAPPY iyour video was one of the first videos to pop up. Love the tip of using tamarind powder for it to tast like tomatoe sauce. Learned a couple new tips, thanks to you.
BLESS YOU for this. I just can’t wait to make it. I have been dying for pizza and pasta.
Do you have a link to this exact recipe? On your blog I can only find similar ones? Thanks
Thank you. I’m on a no-nightshade diet but I miss tomato sauce. I’ll try this
How long does a jar of that good for until it starts to expire?
How do you get the sauce from tasting like metal from the beets?
I am a super picky eater. Make this nomato sauce! I eat it every single week, and you’ll be glad you tried it. We love marinara so I use roasted veggies in mine, you can really change up the flavors depending on your needs. It really tastes like marina.
Nice video! Do you heal with this alone or are you also taking meds? What do you think of the medical medium with respect to autoimmune?
Omg this is genius!! Defs will try this recipe! Thank you for sharing
this video was so relaxing. I’m obviously very excited to try out this recipe, but I just love your lil homey kitchen set up and showing us your herb garden. About to binge all your vids… thanks for the content:)
I’ve never encountered a “no-mato” sauce recipe before! I’m amazed. The creativity and the effort encapsulated into this recipe is just awe inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing.
Holy cow!! I made this tonight being the biggest sceptic because I loathe pumpkin and beets….this sauce is fantastic! I paired it with gluten free spaghetti noodles and nearly cried because I haven’t had spaghetti in months that I wasn’t in extreme pain. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
I just found your channel and subscribed. Great recipe. Thanks for sharing.
I was literally having anxiety giving up nightshades, I wanted to cry but I’m so so happy I found this. Thank you so much. I just know it’s going to taste good from the comments. God bless you.
For psoriasis sufferers:
This with Quorn mince and zoodles/courgetti. You have something similar to spaghetti Bolognese.
Or as close as you’re going to get with a heavily restrictive diet.
I have no idea what I did wrong. I followed this exactly and my sauce was orange. No where near red. It looked exactly like the pumpkin. I had to add a lot of water at the end and put it in the blender because it just did not turn out like that. It was tasty though. My 8 year old even liked it. I refuse to tell her what’s in it though.:)
Thank you for this video. I’m going to try this recipe
made this today. love it!!! thanks.
eating some of it tonight on zuchinni noodles and it looks sooooo good
Stacey! My family and I made this together and COULD NOT BELIEVE how perfect you were able to get these flavours!!! Had it over zucchini noodles, and all of us were smiling with every bite! Soooo nice to have those classic Italian flavours again I am absolutely in love with your recipes:DD
Just made this in my Instant Pot and used my homemade chicken bone broth instead of water. It turned out fantastic and I couldn’t even tell that there wasn’t tomato in it! Thank you Stacey!
Hi, I thought lasagna was a hard dish to cook but you made me want to try it. I did it and I’m very happy!! thanks for sharing. PD. Sorry about my grammar, I’m learning English.
As a half-Italian who is in love with all things sauce, I thank you. Looking forward to trying this out!
I was so skeptical but made it and it’s delicious! But nothing will ever replace raw, organic, fresh picked tomatoes =) But when I tasted it, I also thought I’d have an allergic reaction! But of course didn’t.
I’m gonna try this, I can’t eat garlic or tomato but I think if I use the fennel it should be ok, if I can find it, I live in western massachusetts in the middle of nowhere, no whole foods or trader joes nearby =(.
Around here, cabbage is considered a rare food.
Thanks so much for the tips on tamarind and lemon juice! I have tomato allergy but I miss the flavor so much. I will try this. It’s very similar to another recipe I’ve tried but I definitely want to try the tamarind.:) Cheers!
I made this last week and froze two jars of it. Well tonight I heated some up for dinner and added some meatballs I made and omg, this tasted just like real marinara sauce! It was amazing! Thank you so much for this recipe. This is a food I can’t live without so I’m so happy to have an AIP compliant version.
That looks so good,I’m going to make this rather than making it like I usually make it!
Going to make this week. Craving pizza. Btw the stuffing recipe you put up I made and everyone loved that more then the normal stuffing they were eating.
gotcha.. language problems can be a mother…
‘scuse me if I came across with a bad attitude (VERY possible)… I’ve just been dealing with an offensive idiot and it’s often difficult to shake that off.
I finally got a hold of all the ingredients and tried this. It tastes exactly like tomato sauce. I feel like a freakin wizard.
That looks so great. Can I get the recipe off your website? Why no oven? You don’t like them or where you live just doesn’t have one?
I just wanted to take a moment and THANK YOU for your outstanding collection of videos. Your upbeat and positive personality really help me understand that AIP is DOABLE!! Thank you for taking the time to share what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Seriously, I appreciate it. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (undifferentiated connective tissue disease) about ten days ago. My doctor believes that my pregnancy (at age 45) triggered my immune system. Although I tested negative in all labs for the common AI diseases and I’m feeling good, I’ve decided to take a med (plaquenil) to prevent further damage to my body. My ANA lab result doubled in the past 6 months, so something is going on in my body. I also started eating a paleo diet (mostly AIP, but I haven’t been able to stop eating nuts!) Anyway, for someone like me who is just at the start of the AIP journey, your videos are AMAZING. So THANKS!! <3
The voice sounds like Giada DeLaurentiis…………………..
With the olive oil, are you using extra virgin or regular olive oil? I’ve heard/read it is safe to cook with regular olive but not extra virgin.
I have missed tomato sauce so much. This makes me happy! Your joy in experimentation is infectious! BIG thanks.
Thanks for sharing your recipe! I never thought about tamarind instead of capers, so that’s a great tip! I make something very similar, but in the InstantPot. Use the saute’ function to carmelize the onions and garlic, then add all the veggies into the pot and cook for about 20 minutes at pressure. Let it release pressure naturally, and add the additional seasonings. Then use a stick blender to puree it all in the same pot. You can put it back on saute after that if needed to adjust seasonings or cook down a little liquid. This saves a lot of time and dishes.:)
Thank you! This looks great!! Do you have the recipe written down somewhere?
Wow! Such an Invention, the easiest for me to do is the salad tomatoes but might not have organic balsamic vineagar:( but can think of something else to use (do you have a suggestion),but this recipe is very brilliant. I have been missing tomatoes, was going to risk eating tomatoes and use it as a reintro:P.
Awesome video! I make mine with carrots too, a little pumpkin never hurts anything though lol.
I’ve been a year on AIP and haven’t touched a tomato. I’ve also never tried a nomato sauce but I think you’ve convinced me to do it. Thanks for the videos!
What a good fucking video:
Title: “how to lower acidity”
Video: “You don’t”
FUCKING useless
What are you doing to overcome histamine intolerance? See a functional doctor?
Oh my goodness! Girl as soon as you turned that blender on in like oh no her shirt!!!! Lol this looks amazing!
Thank you!
This is awesome!
Noone has give me the inspiration to change my diet and stay on AIP like you with your great videos. Your recipes are becoming my staples!:-):-)
I have I have adhesions of the small intestine from an accident I had years ago anyting that is slightly acidic will almost kill me with pain I figured this out about tomato sauce I found every time I had some tomato soup I would get unbelievably sick and the pain was enough where I wanted to go to a hospice and just get it over with I just figured it out about baking soda and I really appreciate you bringing this to the Forefront for your viewers also as far as a new ice cream flavor artichoke flavored ice cream how about that. Have tried all the fruit flavors now it’s time to try the vegetable flavors. I can safely say the meat flavors are not worth trying. Imagine Turkey and dressing ice cream.
Love this it is so simple to make..keep up the great recipes robin
Dear plz told me if sugar is 100kg how much acetic acid and citric acid use for better taste
Tinfoil Chef, these recipe modification give me hope. I was diagnosed with LPR (another acid reflux disease) and I have not pizza’d in almost a year. I’m getting so tired of eating vegetables all the time! I will try these out and let you know how it went. Thanks dude!!
viniger may be an acid in its self but it is also a neutralizing agent I would suggest balsamic vinegar
I have really bad acid reflux and i tried drinking a a little vinegar to counter it and it did NOT work… had a real hard time breathing. Vinegar sucks at fighting acid indegestion.
Maybe i was doing that too but that’s ok and.. keep doing your videos, they’re good (well i really don’t understand all the things you said in it…. still good program 😉 )
I was so happy to hear about the tamarind. I didn’t know about it and added it to my husband’s nomato sauce and it seems to be the missing ingredient. I let him sample and he smiled. Thank you.
One suggestion I learned from many friends… sauté veggies (garlic, tomatoes and onion, then add ground meat. This helps meat almost dissolve without ending up with clumpy/chunky meat. Enjoy!
That’s it =) I finally understand ;)… And omg i’m learning a lot of english here
I mentioned why in the description of a recent video. I didn’t bother to include it in all videos since then because I felt that it was needlessly redundant.
Quote:
I haven’t yet decided whether to permanently adopt =π as a name for whatever this is, I’m going with it for now. Why? Because π is my favorite number, it’s irrational like most people. You’re welcome to suggest names, family friendly only please, in the comments.
And of course, your wikipedia’s answer, didn’t answer my question… Why “Equals Pi”? what it means? What did you use that name for your show? -> I hope you understand the question, is not that hard.. (oh by the way, i know Pi = 3.14…. =/)
QOTD: kiwi ice cream with the seeds, A nice bright green! I like green XD
Equals Pi… as in the number Pi, an irrational number.. the short version would be 3.1415926535897932384626433832795 (though it’s actually an infinite decimal)
I’d love to make this. I’ve seen 2 kinds of papaya in the store, very large yellow ones and smaller green ones which I was told are for baking. Yours looks like the green one. Does it need to be very ripe or is it kind of hard?
i recently just bought a papaya just to eat it bc this other lady i started following eats them for the health benefits but omg papaya = fauxmato!!
gunnna try this
I miss bruschetta… I need to try this… over the bread I can worry later
Really inspired combinations; and you are delightful to watch! Thanks so much.
Me: I don’t have celliac; but I am starting get arthritis so I learned to stay away from nightshades.
Glad I found you & your channel!
Good day! Please, clarify, why don’t you use plum or strawberry to make tomato sauce substitute? That’s sour enough. You just need to put some spices in it like: fresh garlic, cilantro, ginger powder and smoked salt.
One more question. For the beet juice after making in the oven do you purée them or what do you do?
So there is a meatloaf that I make that I add sliced tomato on top and put it in the oven until the tomato cooks and gets charred nicely. Which “tomato” do you suggest for that?
The reason I avoid tomatoes like the plague is because just a small sliver of one will put me into agony for about four to six hours while it passes through my system. Feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife. Made the ones with the mushrooms tonight. Looking forward to tomorrow and experimenting with them. Thanks Stacey!
You’re amazing as always! I wish there was a way for you to leave a written recipe somewhere on here to print for all these fantastic recipe ideas! Thanks for all you do!
Just tried first recipe and I can’t believe how much this resembles tomato in texture! How long do you think it keeps in the fridge? Thank you Stacey, for all you do! Many of your recipes have made my AIP journey so much easier and successful!
Thanks for all the great ideas have just started my aip journey thanks to coming across your aip success story. Was wondering what your deal is with buying mostly grass fed meat? do you react to the other meat? I have celiac too but apparently grain fed meat is gluten free, Im just wandering if its worth the trouble to get grass fed or not:)
I’m sorry did I hear that right? Did you say that stress can cause allergies? I didn’t know stress was so damaging.
Genius! I don’t think I’d ever have thought of using that…
SUCH a genius!! You are incredible. I’m so bummed that I’m allergic to mushrooms. But I’ll try the one without mushrooms for sure!
You can use the papaya seeds. Dehydrate and grind them, they are used for peppercorn substitute and is helpful for those with diverticulitis
God bless you for sharing this!! My husband is in the early stages of chronic kidney disease and tomatoes are his kryptonite. Now, I have an option for him and homeopathic doctors use papaya to heal the kidneys!! Win:Win!! TY I have been trying to find some way to substitute tomatoes for him. I also need to share this with my niece who can’t have lignons. Wow.:-)
Omg after 2 years of living in Alabama where they have NO IDEA how to make salsa, I visited Texas a week ago, ate at my fave street taco place and had the wonderful salsa I miss so much. I think they use roasted tomatoes because it had such a roast toasty taste and they guard that recipe with their lives, lol… so now I’m wondering what roasted papaya would taste like. And it’s sad the the tamarind doesn’t work with this cuz I love what it does for the Nomato sauce. I think I gotta go get a papaya now and yes my stomach is all kinds of messed up from cheating on my diet
I appreciate your research, Stacey My salsa is very popular among loved ones and I miss it myself. I hope I can make it work with papaya. BTW I started using cronometer like you suggested. I exceed in every category except calcium and omega 6s. What do you suggest I eat to increase these? I’m wondering if this will be the fix as to why I’m still so tired and having flares over 90 days in on the elimination phase I was slowly but consistently improving but the last few weeks have been rough. I appreciate your advice! ❤❤❤
Thank you for the recipe. What can I use instead of vinegar? Anything acidic is a no no for me due to serious digestive problems.
I just made this easy lasagna recipe! Thank you for making me feel like a chef!
I learned a lot from this. I love it keep up the good work
Can’t believe it’s possible but I tried it and your a saint in our house! Do you make a salsa?
Looks like a wonderful lasagna. In my days of using a jarred sauce, Prego was my preferred brand. Now days, I make my own. It comes together pretty quick. About 30 minutes. Instead of lasagna now, I have used Ziti and layered it like lasagna. Being a tubular pasta it comes out pretty thick, which I like. I like to use fresh herbs, but they can get kinda expensive. What we have available comes in small packages. Basil, probably 10 leaves for $2.75. So I settle for the dried versions.
If I don’t want extra sauce how much should I use? Would the quantity of the meat change as well?
ive made lots of my own lasagna but i have no idea why it never occurred to me until now to mix the meat with the sauce at the same time then put in the layers, i always added them separately, time to change it up =D
We don’t like ricotta cheese either so I use a dry cottage cheese or strain as much as I can if I can’t find the dry. The flavor is so much richer. I also use seven different white cheeses and make my own sauce. It is expensive but to die for. do you think adding oil to the noodles keeps them from absorbing the flavors of the other ingredients? I also use two to three times the celery as you did in my sauce and saute it and the onions in butter before adding. The celery keeps my heartburn proned guest from having heart burn. What do you think? Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
Thanks, that was great I made it to day and I wasn’t expecting that delicious.
Instead of thyme not available her I use oregano. I skip red wine.
Robin where was your dads restaurant..was in east los Angeles if so I was raised here in Lakewood and my dad taught at Garfield High School I ELA..so all the goodies you do are great I really enjoyed the Chili Verde I made it in my crackpot..umm
Real Cider Vinegar is a remedy for excessive acidity in the body, wouldnt that work? and Lemon Juice amazingly enough also turns alkaline in the body..
I followed this advice; I had made a sauce that was bad and I was sad; so I then made a new sauce without the bad stuff and it was good and I was happy; but then I mixed it with the bad sauce and it was bad again; I’m thinking of skipping the last step …
It is not always easy to find the time to make a made from scratch sauce. When I use a Jar Sauce I always Doctor it up some, your method looked Great! Nice Look’in Lasagna!
You Rock Robin! Fantastic looking lasagna. Makes me wish I were having that tonight! Thanks for the great idea about perking up a jarred sauce. Have a good week!
Yum Robyn that’s a delicious lasagna recipe. I love putting Italian sausage in also, vamps up the flavour.
Not sure what I did wrong, but the kitchen is on fire and my arm is bleeding. Can you clarify the instructions?
This was an enjoyable video to watch
Going to make it:) thanks
wow lady even a 1 year old could figure that out. What if you dont have enough to make a second batch? huhhh
Looking for a no tomatoes included sauce. Allergic to tomatoes.
To clarify, I didn’t continue posting it in description of other videos partly because I simply forgot and partly because I have this funny idea that people read video descriptions.
I know I always at least give it quick glance to spot anything interesting.
It’s best to make your own ricotta, which you can do with simple ingredients. The ricotta you get at the grocery store is nasty. Real ricotta is supposed to be creamy, like cream cheese. Here’s a recipe for ricotta:
https://www.marthastewart.com/316049/homemade-ricotta. Make sure to follow the instructions closely and don’t use ultra-pasteurized milk and/or heavy cream. If you don’t want to make ricotta, I would say just go with cream cheese.
@RealWorldAIP ThankYou 4 this vid Can’t wait to trycraving it as a soup, lol
U so pretty n precious also like ur voice
This recipe is really good! So happy to have something that tastes like tomato sauce. I’ve only been on AIP for 5 weeks and your recipes are a godsend. Thanks for all you do, look forward to your videos each week! I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia over 20 years ago but drs suspect celiac. Hoping AIP will help.
Liked this recipe very much, I may also use the base recipe and add Sautéed veggies vs the meat mix as I am out of protein at this time of the month, Thank you for sharing!!!
Love this one. 800lb Gorilla has no idea what he’s talking about.
