Are the lunges 10 total or 10 per each leg for a total of 20.?
sorry but why is he standing on a busy road designed for cars??
Thank you very much for this. I am starting out running. how many times per week should I be doing each of the 6 week to 30min runs. I did the 1st one today. 7 x 3mins run/1min walk. Should I do this more times this week?
Loved the vid! Question, when am I supposed to do the workouts? Week 0? Where do the workouts fit into the schedule you made towards the end of the vid? Would love a response as I am looking to try this workout plan out.
I have no idea what he just said other than “breath through your mouth, too”.
I used to run so much, I let myself go bad. Now when I run anytime, my lower back aches after two minutes of running. Any tips on how to stop that?
He talks about starting at a 10 minute mile and I think I barely jog a 12 minute mile. I’ve got a lot of work to do apparently…
So do i do all these 3 workouts on a single day? Like 3x a week?
Finally, found a nice and doable training plan. Thanks a lot, coach!
Was checking tounge position and ended up hitting other runner
Nate, can these three workouts be done on the same day, or should we progress to through them? For example, I did the first 2 today, next week I would like to do all three starting with the first week. I would rest for ten minutes between exercise 2 and 3.
I ran 35 minutes but I had to pause in between just to walk Catch my Breath but I still kept pushing about time I stop running it was like 37 minutes and it very important to learn and know how to breathe and good minutes running form because if you are not use to running 30 minutes what my distance coach said start by doing 15 or 20 minutes runs and add on 5 minutes each week if you are not hurting
I think I can run 3 miles without stopping at around 9:00 pace? (Without walking) Not good, I know. My best mile is 6:30 and I’m a 14 year old girl. I want to run a half marathon in…20 days I believe? I haven’t told my parents yet. I’ve run/walked it before but never done an official race because my parents thought I couldn’t lmao. (I got pissed, next day I went out and proved them wrong ) they said they’ll let me this year, but I want to at least get a decentish time. (You have to have sub 3 hour pace or they’ll kick you out) I’m certain I can do this, but I’d like to be a good portion away from that cut off. Any tips? I believe my main problem is the small amount of will power I have, it’s like overtime I’ve developed a bad habit of barely trying, or being, idek, scared to push myself. Idk why. Ik a 10 minute pace is around a 2:15 I think? Honestly I’d be happy with that. Anyone know how I can maintain this for 13 miles without mentally dying lmao?
This maybe redundant, but could you pls write down the protocol for exercise #3? How many sets of what. Thank you
I have a track meet TODAY I don’t have that much time to practice before I need to run a mile
Within 6 weeks, i have manage to run 30mins for 2.80 miles. Big Thanks to your instruction. I will try to double the duration soon right after I can adapt to the 30mins in the next few weeks. Following up your videos gives me a lot of motivation to keep running ♀️♀️♀️
I was just born, I’m. Glad I watched this video or else I would’ve died!
I’ve been training for 6-8 weeks at 50% incline and 50% resistance on the elliptical for an hour 3 days a week. Usually burn around 600-800 calories a go. Just started actually running the mile. My original mile before training was 8:45, but now, after training, I can run a 6:25. Still have a ways to go, but will continue to go strong. If you have weak knees/ankles or just don’t want to hurt horrendously after training, use the elliptical. It takes 80% of the soreness away. It allows way more control in resistance so you can fine tune the building up of your cardiovascular system.
At the moment I could only run 500m without stopping…. and no way I could talk when so doing….That’s really bad isnt it?
I’ve been finding your videos very helpful, thank you. I’m a beginning runner, having started again after almost 30 years away from it. I’ve already gotten to my first goal (a sub-30 minute 5k), am confident that your coaching videos will help get me to the next goal of a sub-25 minute 5k. I do, however, have a question. In several of your videos you’ve given exercises intended for hills. Can you recommend substitutes for those of us who can’t access hills readily? My closest hills are 25-30 miles away, and the don’t amount to much. It seems like stairs or stadium steps would ratchet up the intensity over hills, and would have different mechanics, but would that work?
You look like kind of like a combination of PewdiePie and jackflims
we needed to run a mile under 10 mind in pe earlier and i got 10:11
How many days a week? Check that….the response below answered my question. Thanks for the video.
What if a pack of rapid dogs are chasing me? Should I keep running until the dogs give up and quit?
I’ve been running for a month now and i went from a 7:25 mile to a 4:57 mile! Make sure you stretch well and stay hydrated, because that helps a lot!
Tip for people to help with breathing.
Note takes a while for it too actually do something.
Try taking big breaths with your stomach in and out when not running or working out. Not too sure about the science behind it but taking big breaths like this helps increase lung capacity.
Hills give u shin splints if u haven’t been running. Well at least for me
Thank you for a great tip. But any instructions regarding rest in between the hills? as well as between the 400 intervals?
I went from a 7:23 mile to a 7:10 in about 2 months. I rlly want to hit around 6min, training is a LOT of work but you can only get better not worse
Yes hills are a bitch got my ass kicked in prospect park on my first marathon
I’m a beginner runner training for my first 14k marathon, thanks so much for this! Just hoping for some clarification, would I do the first two workouts first and then some weeks later progress to the third workout the program? Or would I be combining them all together to do on the same day?
Love all the SF scenery, being a Monterey County guy…good stuff! great info!
I want to throw in something that I’ve noticed about myself (while running) and I wonder if it happens to others.
It has to do with the mind. I’ve noticed that if mentally, I’m fully present (in the moment) and I’m thinking about what I’m doing and what I have left to do while I’m running I experience the whole thing as more struggle, more painful and taking a real long time to accomplish getting to the end of the course I’m running down.
However (for example) when I’m running and I mentally shift to recalling (the past) ; let’s say something bad that happened between me and a person recently where I actually mentally re-live any arguing that may have happened and I also think of how I could have responded better to their arguing I notice that not only do I mentally disconnect from what I’m doing (but also physically) as well. Time seems to speed up too. In essence, my consciousness (awareness) goes into another reality. I no longer feel the pain of all the impacts of the feet hitting the ground, no longer feel the strain of breathing and gasping for air or sense anymore the amount of time it is actually taking to complete the run.
I think that this ability to mentally “go somewhere else” while the body is left to move in a fully automatic machine like way, is the real secret behind what those extreme ultra-marathon runners and those runners that take on the Badwater marathon (where you’ll need 3 pairs of sneakers because the heat on the track will melt the soles of all your sneakers away) is what they’re doing. They mentally have trained themselves to “go somewhere else” like mobile monks in intense meditation while their bodies remain behind on full automatic. And when they “mentally return” to the present moment (after crossing the finish line) that’s when they feel the full intensity of the punishment that they’ve put their bodies through.
U don’t need to listen to dis video at all in order to run for a long time u need to have the mental down running is all mental
Literally 15 second explanation on how to apply this video whack af next
Great protocol for those not comfortable with the longer duration efforts!
Very good video for people who wants to start running longer time. Although I do not need it it was pleasant whatch the background, overall the Golden Gate. I love SF.
6-8 weeks
Man I’ll be doing much better if I ran a mile everyday for 2-3 weeks
My dad has been making me run ever since this quarantine happened and just don’t understand how he goes so fast and I get tired after the warm up but great vid by the way.
I can do 8 and I’ve been doing it 2 weeks after never really running. I was around 10 minutes a mile. Many times I’ve gone very light headed after running. Hope to get a 7 minute mile one day. Every run is good because sometimes the legs give up and sometimes it’s cardio so you get to train whatever is weaker that day. I run 1-3 times a day whenever I feel like it. Sometimes a day off.
Any tips for running in colder climates/running in the winter?
He should have mention the fact that your body absorbs 20% more oxygen when breathing in through your nose
He spoke a lot about breathing except how to do it while working out…
This would really slim my thighs, but it’s so hard. My breathing sucks.
I run a 6:46 but I need to run 5 miles in 40 minutes (8 minute miles) In order to join special forces
Its called the medulla oblongata tht is in control of involuntary function like for example breathing
Am too an athlete and nose breathing is best on long track’s because on breathing through mouth will release lot of water vapour and hence drying your throat and eventually cause cramping near liver and kidney ares
This helped a lot… The people saying that you don’t make sense didn’t pay attention thank you so much hehe
Stretch and rollout before, pace yourself, and stretch and rollout after, you’ll be perfectly fine. I just ran my first mile on a treadmill and do this. I am typing this 45 minutes after running it and I’m not really that sore. Ran it in 9 minutes. I paced myself because I didn’t know how tired I would get
The army forced this lesson down my throat. A trial by fire of sorts.
I have an anxiety disorder and I get anxiety when I run for some reason. so I’m never able to breathe well while running, does anyone have any tips?
I started this time last year, 1.5 mile, I tried my best to do it @ 13 minutes almost 14 minutes.
I kept running and running. Today I reached 10′ 54″
I see this guy on every tutorial video I search what the hell
I followed the tips in this video and I ran for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days and 16 hours. I stopped because I did get tired after all.
Best,
Forrest
Using the stretching techniques from that video by Coach Brian also helps tremendously. This common sense running tips helped me ensure I was conditioning properly as a fairly new runner. I started sprinting first and now I’m incorporating slower runs as a switch up. My sprints started at 4.5 mph now I’m up to 7.6. The endurance and tracked progress is celebratory. That in itself is a high.
When I was in 7th grade I was 230 and 5’6 with little muscle and still ran a 10 minute mile. Now I’m 14 and start my freshman year in a week and am now 150 5’11 and run a mile in 6 minutes
I want to be able to run a six minute mile but my current time is 12 minutes
I think there’s three big factors when it comes to running number one you have to condition your body your legs are going to be sore at first but the more you do it the easier it gets number two you have to condition your cardio you will run out of breath you will get tired but again it gets easier and finally number three you need to condition your mind it is very easy to tell yourself you can’t do it but the truth is once you realize it’s mind over body you can break through all sorts of walls and accomplish all sorts of things. Great video and great motivational tips
Bla bla bla elite runners from Africa laugh out loud when they see this video
You need to breathe to much oxygen until your blood cells are filled with oxygen and they start to boil.. your muscles will become very strong:)
Proper nutrition is so important! Better recovery, less inflammation, less injuries hence more training and better physical ability. I go by science, so Whole Foods Plant Based Diet it is
Finally video that doesn’t include entire human biology with straight answer
Everyone complaining about their school making them do the mile run but in my school we have to do a 3 mile run every week…..
Total breathing concentration First form: Breath to your nose
Welp, watched this vid last night nothing really helped ran the class mile today at the community track for 8th grade and it didn’t go well I got 9 minutes and was thr last to finish in my class everyone else was done and walking back to the school while I was running hope you guys have better luck
How do I run a mile without my fat itching! That’s what’s killing me.
I don’t think I should be watching this because my doctor said I can’t run too quickly because I can pass out. My heart beats faster than normal and the don’t know why. I guess I can run pretty quick with my “condition” because I’ve gotten an 10:15 min mile! I’ve been in a gymnastics team for two years so I guess that helps:/
Q So How to breath while running?
AYou body & brain knows to handle it.
So why I am here on this video watching you running?
How to breathe while running:
Step 1: wear a flashy watch on the track.
Step 2: use your mouth and nose to breathe
My endurance tremendously improved when I started using my BreatheEasy Lung Expander Exerciser device, not only for the exhale but even more so for the inhale. Last summer I went hiking for 6 days in Yosemite and spent most of the time between 7500’ and 8500’. I was really satisfied with how well I was breathing. No sign of my asthma anymore! I got my BreatheEasy on Amazon for $20.
I learned how to breathe through my bottom. Then I sat down and suffocated to death.
Basically this video is saying you should just breathe while running
i find a great way of even better breathing, from my mouth, nose and my butt, just reverse fart
I swear if this doesnt work i might just breathe bc i have the pacer monday
Dis nigga literally said nothing, all the likes must be from thirsty teenage girls
How am I suppose to practice when the mile run is tomorrow morning?!
My first mile was 8:31 and I want to try to get a 8:00 minute for the next one we are doing in P.E.
SIR THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE MY NOSE IS BLOCKED I CAN VER BREATHE FROM MY NOSE
for anyone wondering about 1:29
what he meant to say was Progress to nose in mouth out breathing”
the word “Regress” means to return to a former less developed state.
hope this helps.
Instructions unclear. Accidentally learned an ancient breathing technique then fought the ultimate lifeform.
People talking about their 9-minute miles when I am over here with an 11 minute and 30 seconds mile that needs to get into a 10-minute mile in 5 days or else I will fail my PFT:(
People think it should be easy for me because I am not overweight I am actually pretty skinny but I have no muscle or endurance!
how many times a week do we do the exercise and the 5-6 wk program? everyday or every other day?
I always breath in through my nose and out through my mouth, regardless if I’m tired
I wanna run a 5k by the end of the year
I now start to breathe like a scuba diver that picked the wrong tank up in less than 100m so ye
I always try to breathe through my nose but my nose always feels stuffy so I become a mouth breather
We doing challenges I got 9:07 minutes in mile but I didn’t made it I’m in top 7:( — Top 1-5
Breathing technique hierarchy (per this video)
N.I.N.O: Noise In Nose Out,
N.I.M.O: Noise In Mouth Out,
M.I.M.O: Mouth In Mouth Out.
The thing is I don’t want to run im my neighborhood.
Dont know how to drive to run elsewhere.
So in the end i dont do anything
Before i watched this video i dont knew how to breath but thanks to youtube it helped me how to breath and now i can breath
I was listening to this video to improve my breathing while running and then suddenly I heard snoring sound which came from my dad
I’m 300lbs + and I recently started interval fast walking with a bit of jogging. I noticed that after 15 to 20 Mk mins I get a issue with my chest or lungs. I dont know what it is and it starts hurting. I’m 25 btw. I did get a ecg few months back and everything was good. Could if be my lungs?
This video is full of common sense mixed with horrible advice. Can we please stop with the spreading of the myth of drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day? Its been thoroughly disproven so many times. Yes you shouldn’t be dehydrated, but 99% of us aren’t dehydrated, we get tons of water from foods and drinks.
fun fact: as u run all day everyday your body adapts unto this, hence making this a natural result of running so dont even bother trying it on the 1st time.
I found that when I focused on my breathing, I didn’t pay much attention to how tired I felt.
Whos here because someone was faster and GETS NO IDEA WHAT HE MEANS in the video
Breathing through your mouth will make you more tired. Breathing through your nose is slower so people may think its not efficient. But we know the longer the oxygen stays in our lungs, the better it is and better the endurance.
Superb video. Thanks! Breathing correctly makes a huge difference to your running or any sport.
I remember when I was 4 years old I had a dream about a commercial for adults, and in the commercial a women was running and it said “we are adults. We can’t breathe”
Alright just gonna say it. THERE ARE VERY FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO WHILE RUNNING. DO WHAT FEELS BEST FOR YOU. Literally the only things you should never do is
*run entirely on pavement
*run while having a heart attack (aka sick)
*static stretches before dynamics
Instead
*run on dirt
*be healthy and keep injuries in mind
*dynamic movement based stretches to warm up the body before any static stretches. Hell some people dont even do any static stretches till AFTER the run.
Everything else depends on your own body and how you feel when you run. Stay safe people.
This video exactly got reccomended to me. Currently iam practicing running for police physical test to server my society.
thanks for your sharing…i run 30-45 mnt on saturday and sunday…but i confused between running or jogging…my speed only 5,8 5,9 minutes/km…is it jogging..or running? but… i feel comfort at that speed… my goals only to keep healthy… not to join marathon…or any running race…
I can run very long distances but its just that i have asthma problems so it gets harder to breathe when im running
While running we want to breath in and out with nose
If we breath from the mouth we will get fastly tierd
Say I’m doing cross country and someone has passed me I want to stop or slow down it’s so fucking annoying
Had my first run today. I noticed I wasn’t breathing as I should. I want to improve upon that for my next run.
Video: How to breathe while running
Me: Just breathe LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Good tips. Need to work on my hydration and stretching and rest. Was trying to run daily just lacing up and going out there but was getting tired and sore.
Hello this helped me so much because you helped me run 5k without getting tired so keep up the good vids
Im looking at this video for my fitness gram great help by the way
Sir you speak English very speed ple writing breath nose or mouth
This was all good advice. Since I am in my 50s and not a competitive runner, what I do (when I am struggling with my pace) is simply slow down into a more relaxed pace, try to enjoy my surroundings, and feel happy that I am healthy, getting more and more fit and feeling ALIVE! I also think the “one day on, one day off” is excellent (for me).
I breath in a pattern like this: in-in out-out, in-in out-out. I feel it help me get a good vo2 max.
Those nostrils there can accommodate Canada and the US…. respectively…
I love the feeling of oxygen in my lungs, I was breathing in air.
Im going to boot camp soon and Im kinda nervous because the only thing i cant do is the 3 mile run. I have allergies and its hard to breath in through the nose and out through the mouth because My nose gets stuffed. Is there a better way to breath in general? Like should I be breathing big deep fast breaths the whole time? or should I be breathing slow deep breaths?
Him: “stay healthy”
Me: eating oreos while watching the video
What is a good mask where we can actually breathe and have some protection? anything to recommend any runners?
i would not take the advice of breathing through the mouth. As the nose is way better at delivering oxygen to your lungs faster, more efficient, and properly. As well mouth breathing can cause many of health complications over time.
hey can i ask u guys something? i live in the middle of a city, where there is a lot of polution around me. is it ok?? cause u know, when we are run we take inhale a lot than usual. sry for my bad english
Keep at it, I used to run a 10 minute mile last year as a 11 year old. Now a year later I can run a 720
Being part god helps but in absence of that I suppose train hard, drink water, and cut down on sex to maybe 1-2 times a day if possible. I think the last one is a stretch unless your only seeing one person at a time and have been with them long enough your bored by it.
I have just started running I do 3.2 miles think it’s 5k.. I run and walk and my time is about 31mins… I bought a garmin watch and that helps me get off my arse and out. One downside when I get back I have bad skitters lol
Hi guys, how many times per week should we do the exercises every week. Thanks
I’ve improved from 12 min mile to 8.06 min mil today, I felt it was so easy today.. I think it’s cuz I improved my breathing
I usually run a 8:00 to 8:30 on the treadmill with a 1.5-3% incline, I always use the incline and went outside and did a sub 7 minute mile at 6:50 i tried to do a 6:00 mile outside also but kept that pace for 4:30. The incline helps a lot if you run it on the street.
I run 6 miles daily and notice recently it’s become difficult some days, why is that!?
avoid smoking.. and drinking alcoholic beverage.. eat vegetables and fruits..
that’s how i always do it because i feel less tired breathing through my nose
I only stop running to take photo’s…. shame my #Garmin can’t take pictures when I run…
(saves me from stopping)! #Garmin #NotetoGarmin🙂
Dude I run A mile in 6:23 I’m in the 6 minuete mile club at my school this vid was on my recommend
Competitively, the last part of the race is the hardest because runners really race. Saying this, probably the best way to train is taking this point in mind. The race starts after half the race is done and be ready to sprint the last 2km
Quick exercise.
Hold your breath for the longest time. You’ll see things no human has ever seen before.
Regarding nasal breathing, I’ve heard the opposite. That yes mouth breathing can bring in more oxygen to the blood stream, but not necessarily the muscle tissue and that nasal breathing will allow enough CO2 buildup to get more oxygen into the actual tissue instead of just kept in the blood stream. I’ve been watching a lot of Oxygen Advantage stuff, just wanted to know if it was bunk. Thanks!
I never run a mile but I think I run 1 kilo meters 300 miles in 2 hours
He doesn’t necessarily answer anything in this video. Besides common sense things.
These all video are bullshit what is required is will power, u need just a stimulus and target of progress..I use to run hardly 300-500 mts non stop I continued running jus 15 days now I’m running 1.8 Kms without getting tired around 12 Kms per hr
I think one the important aspect to have is good running shoe’s. Good comfortable (gel) soles to dampen the shocks will help you go that extra mile
1st tip according to me is while running dont think u are running distract urself in some other things in this way u will get less tired and keep up with the pace
When I was really into running, the key thing was being conditioned and having the muscle strength developed prior to running. I did this by weight training (not heavy weights). Once that muscle strength was there, I could run without getting fatigued easily and run for long periods of time even though I was carrying an extra 20 lbs. Also, music made it so much easier too.
Consider you outfits and trainers too.
Besides, Why men always wear a regular shorts and pollo T-shirts regardless he’s 6 pack or fat where women wears them sexy outfits? Sexier you are more skin you show. Very distracting indeed!
I’ve done all of this but I still get tired.. I think my stamina is naturally low.
i hope this will help me in my run tmr,its for my school, its 1.4k btw.
I just breathe in all I can and out while I run and it keeps me from getting tired so quickly
Good running shoes also help. And having a good snack before a long run.
Instructions unclear: end up gaining a British brother, getting my dog and my dad killed, gaining a breathing teacher and fighting to the death against my brother only to end up losing my last breath saving my wife
My top running tips are to keep walking after you have finished a run for until you are breathing normally. If you sit down as soon as you are home/at your destination, your muscles will seize up and when you next run (whether that’d be tomorrow, in half an hour etc) your legs will feel more jelly like and fatigued. I also when I have finished a run, don not drink straight away as it can make me more exhausted. I wait until I am breathing normally and then I drink a glass of milk or a milkshake. Milk is great source of calcium to keep bones strong and healthy and is a good source of protein which repairs muscles and builds up muscle tissue. My coach told me this tip and it really works. Let me know if these work for you?
How to run without getting tired. Then he proceeds to say there is no way you can run without getting tired. Thanks for the click bait douche nozzle.
I find deep slow breathing keeping rhythm with your strides to be the most beneficial. In for 2 to 4 strides then out for the same amount of strides. Experiment to see what works for you.
I will apply this. Will have a funny story about this to share at some point, when we meet at a marathon expo, etc.
Time seems to speed up as well.
Sorry but your section on breathing is old science. Nose breathing is essential for high performance. Without it you’re missing out on vital nitric oxide that is imperative to having optimal functional. Read books like ‘the oxygen advantage’ for all the science behind it
One name:Eliud Kipchoge. The anime’s, DC and marvel comics come ALIVE in African people in general.
Whenever I go through consistent running phases I get constant knee pain. Runners knee I suppose.
The title also needs to be redone. Something like “How to run without getting tired so fast” would fit the video content much better. Otherwise it appears as just a click bait, which doesn’t leave a good impression.
Drinking cold water after getting all warmed up from training (jogging or whatever) is such a bad idea.
Forgot to mention the most important thing about good technique namely that it prevents injuries. Everything else like being more efficient or moving away from the monotony comes second.
I love the advice but it seems that only humans need all this prep. I’m reminded of the dog that joined a marathon at the start as it passed and came thirteenth. No training no special pre race diet no water nothing and it probably wasn’t even trying.
Find some music that has a rhythm and beat that matches your strides. Continually replay this music over and over in your mind while running.
Had me weak “if your nose wants to help you then… let it join the party!” Lol
He was talking for straight 4mins & I still Don’t know what the hell he is saying lol
Everytime I jog I eventually got an upset stomach and kinda feel dizzy. I feel like I’m gonna vomit. Is it because I breathe to much air? Beacause before it happens I breathe using my mouth and nose, Is it because I exhaled to much air that got into my lungs? I’m kinda sad right now since I want to start my own routine since I want to prepare before the examination for the military academy. I need your advice, respect please.
Never has a video said so much, but meant so little. Utter shit.
Instead of this guy showing and telling people how to run, he’s more into running his mouth and talking about things that has nothing to do with running. He’s a talking FREAK. He loves to just run his mouth and says nothing.
Great thanks! Very help full me also make it fun and mix it up Yoga, weights, band work, walking even the odd boogey in the morning, cycling pl;us the mandatory cold shower, NOT just run monotony.
Do “How to run without running” and I’ll subscribe to your channel.
There is a book I read I. 1980 called L.S.D. long slow distance.
Thanks to this video I ran my first 5K today! Thank you for the advice ☺️
When you don’t wanna disappoint you dad so you join cross country and you can’t run a mile
I have 4wks for 2 miles actually I’ve been running every day for the past 11 days so subtract that from 4wks and that’s how much time I have left…I’ll probably fail anyway cause no way can I do 60 pushups in 2 min
Lol watching this the night before I run the miner mile at my school tommorow welp, this is like my 10th time running it ooooof

How do I get a 7 minute mile? Im a senior in highschool trying to be at the top of the competition for Cross Country. This will be my second year doing the sport. Any tips?
Ok I have 5 years to prepare for the marines, I do have anemia though, I hope my efforts won’t be wasted
I don’t think anyone can run a 4:00 minute mile without getting tired
I’m not even saying run 3 miles straight. You can stop a little in between or slow down. But a normal good athlete. Basketball or fighter or football. Supposed to be able to run 3 miles without a problem
I’m fat and out of shape and almost ran a mile today lol that’s how I know it’s ridiculous lol. My legs were getting cramped and my lungs giving in
i kinda missed my last mile because i had a doctor’s apportment..
Run for 5 minutes, walk for 1 minute, run for 5 minutes, walk for 1 minute… and so on.
(Then slowly take less and less breaks)
Run a comfortable speed (a speed where you can have a conversation and not be out of breath)
Listen to this guy.. you won’t be able to run a mile in less than 24 hours if you’re struggling now.
Also don’t drink sugary drinks on the day of the run! And before you go for your run don’t eat a massive breakfast and don’t forget to go the toilet..
I wonder how many people stopped watching when he said you have to actually run
What is making that noise in the background? Sounds like a walrus
i can only run 7/10ths of a mile without having to stop, training for school as we need to run a mile in 10mins while i can run a mile in 11mins, will take advice
Nate, a quick question: Is there a metric that will predict what a person’s best possible time in a given distance will be? I’m a 66 yo SWM (Short weighty male) who’s gone from a 17:50-mile walking pace for a 5K to a 10:22 mile in 70 days and since I am setting a new PR almost daily, I’m wondering just what I can realistically expect of myself. Training for a 5K run in Dallas on Thanksgiving. My original goal of a 39 min. 5K is about to be toast and I want to know what I can do. Hence, the question about the predictive metric. By the way, in that 70 days, my doctor has taken me off all diabetes meds and titrated downward my BP meds. Healthy feels gooooooood!
i run like i got asthma and for the longest i thought i did but i’m jus outta shape
Him: Stay hydrated
Me: Spills a whole 1.5 litre bottle of water
in my school we run the mile two times a month and if we start to walk instead of running during the mile we get a 0 and i get hella cramps
I have like 5 months to get faster so I dont get 12 minutes on a mile again lol
I’m going to a highschool to do it. It’s next Friday. I just ran 50 laps around my driveway. It’s a long driveway. I’m ready to do this.
i think
The only thing that bothers me in running is my legs. They like noodles they keep on wiggling around and not focusing and they usually hurt in the end
Today my stamina was good but holy shit can I not sprint and btw fuck cramps
I got 10:08
I have about two weeks to run 3 miles in 18 minutes. Rip me.
The best way to run a mile and not get tired is to keep running a mile until you don’t get tired…
I just had my first race last week, it was 1 mile, the rest are 2 miles.. My coach says we shouldnt walk at all so we dont get in the habit, i just need to figure out how to last without DYING lol
…and to think that all these years i’ve been breathing thru my armpits…my life is a lie!!
Here I am, watching this video while sitting on the couch and eating chips, 2 days before having to run a mile and a half at school, how fun!
we run a mile every Friday but most people finish before me (I finish around 8 minutes) I want to get to seven also this one kid finishes first and he always uses it against people
Idk why I’m watching this I’ve been running 5 3-mile runs weekly for the past 3 years
well, and meanwhile my brother just goes on a 16 mile runI’ve ran 10k and I’ve been running for 10 years. But my waist keeps hurting so if that doesn’t happen I could be REALLY FAST
I don’t have 6 to 8 weeks. I go to Fort benning for Army basic training in 20 days
Literally I decided one day I wnat to do a run. Then somehow I ended up at a mile (I’m barley to not even at ALL physically fit)
And it’s not that bad. It’s mostly your mindset. Cause my lungs were internally bleeding after like.3 miles but ya know idgaf
Kept going. Then did it.
Yoinks! I have to run 2 miiles at soccer becore we ACTUALLY practice, im 11 and im like a chheta, fast but not long
Step 1. Practice good injury prevention.
Step 2. Run more.
Step 3. It something hurts, refer to Step 1, otherwise, Step 2.
1 Wake up
2 run

4 look beautiful
Actually it’s 2 3 4 and then 1
how to talk continuously for 7 minutes without any solid content
I have to run a mile at practice tomorrow in 10 minutes. I’m a little fat and I definitely can’t do it. I’m so scared to get in trouble. I timed myself and it takes me at least 12 minutes.
I can do a ten min mile but am spent after it. Could you give proper breathing protocol. I tried taking full deep breathes but it affects me adversely.
Watching this video for my school walk run so I could be top 10
I run 3-4km everyday but I’m not losing weight what can i do
I think 30 min/mile is like super slow walk, or a fast crawl speed. There should be a 1 mile crawl tournament, that would actually be quite cool to watch.
Do you think I can make it in two weeks? Lol I leave for boot camp on the 29th of May
I’m a runner just now coming back, used to run track in middle school and my best time was 5:55. Should I rest when I’m super sore or keep pushing through? Theres a saying I like “embrace the suck” but will I have more progress letting it heal fully and then breaking down the muscles again or sustained training on a schedule like you say.
I can run 3 miles nonstop on the treadmill but I can’t even run for 5 minutes on concrete
Breath through nose first and breath out through mouth
It’s easy
I HAVE 1 DAY help edit: today’s the day….. I woke up early..
my fastest junior high mile was 9 minutes and 38 seconds. now i run a half mile in 13 minutes
I ran a mile in 8 minutes during a cadet challenge
The bois who finished before me were on the floor
I ended up breathing through my mouth only and at the end of it all my mouth felt like the Sahara desert lol
I personally believe a good tip is to built the habit of running. You need to be consistent.I was laughing at people setting alarms to wake up and go running and now I’m doing it!And once you’re out of the door, don’t feel like you need to nail it from the first run.Go slow and allow yourself time to recover.Listen to your body;)
I ran 1 hour at a 8:21 average pace without stopping (17 year old)
Nate, awesome landscapes. Taking my notes for your advises, and saving on favorites. Thanks!
I didn’t know it hurts this much! My rib cage is so sore now because of my impromptu first time 1-mile run! Huhuhu
Ugh my miles are usually late sevens like 7:50, I just want to get a flat 7:00
I’ve been running for about 3-4 months now, I’ve been practicing on my teqniques, I’m still getting a lot of pain on my shin splints… what can I do. I run 4-5 days out of the week
I just started running I used to smoke and drink a lot of beer.quit..went on keto diet then walked everyday..lost weight now I’m running.I feel great.
Had to rewatch part of the video cause I got distracted by his abs.
6 to 8 weeks? HA I HAVE THREE SEASONS…..
Me three seasons later: was I supposed to do something today…?
Breathing techniques is one of the toughest part In running? Agree?
I think that my family is cheering me on at the end of a tunnel and it keeps me going maybe even a little faster than I run because them cheering me on
Why he talks like he’s missing teeth from the top row of his mouth….BTW didn’t learn a damn thing especially when he had to regroup he tired his damn self boy bye
I run 2 miles nonstop at 19:37 is that consider fast or average?
How to avoid my muscles pain while running mile in 6.5 minutes
I was taught to never breath threw your mouth lol oxygen don’t all go directly to diaphragm. And even I use my mouth eventually I get sharp pain. Threw the nose that never happens
My fastest mile was 8:16 I run for distance honestly I do 5 miles 6 days out the week
What do you think about skipping/drilling instead of walking during breaks?
I’ve been running every few days for like 2 months now, when I first started I got around 11 min but now I’ve made progress down to around 8-8:1/2 min
I hope this works I have football training and the football fields are bigger that a nfl field and I have to run that four times at the start search up afl stadiums
Is there a minimum amount that someone needs to run to maintain their conditioning. Say if your at a level of 2h 40 mins to finish. What is the minimum amount of miles you should run each week to at least maintain your physical conditioning.
something that worked for me in obtaining higher speeds over distance was actually just walking at an incline. Set tread to 8-15% (depending on fitness and muscle strength), then walk so you can feel calfs etc really working hard but not so they’re struggling (otherwise injury)…. do that for an hour… increase it over time…. this should be quite hard… without any struggle or pain. Sometimes I’ll do that for 2 hours a day…. but someone else could do 1 hours if they want. For me that’s 12% incline at 3.7 mph. If I’m not running that day it’ll be 2 hours at 12% incline at 3.7 mph. Then as soon as my legs can handle a faster run again, after 1/2 hr walking warmup as previously described, I’ll run an hour at my lactic threshold (that’s where my body is only just clearing lactic at the rate its building) which is the speed you can run for an hour… which for me on the tread happens to be 8/mile…. so this should feel comfortably hard… but not blasting it and struggling…. however this is not easy pace. So, what I’ve done is sub by easy runs for the incline speed walks which seems to work better for me. For some reason I can go faster for a lot less effort off the treadmill.
The first time I ran a mile I got a 12 minute mile the second time 9.32 and the the third time 8.55 the last time I did it two weeks ago I got a 7.31
ive been getting 6:30– 7:00 im really trying to to get lower than 6
I have an average 9min mile and Im always 2 seconds close to getting my time to 8 mins
I run a mile every Thursday, and I usually get a 10 or a 9, so next time I do the mile I will try my best to get an 8 min mile
my financial career on youtube could be extraordinary for me if this video got more than 100K views.
This guy just challenge me to feel less tired next time? You’re on.
do i have enough time to improve? i got a surprise 1 mile in 10 min from my coach and its either on Monday or Wednesday. Can i get better in 2-4 days?
I can’t even run for a mile on a treadmill I’m training really hard the two days I am capable of going to a gym though because I want to run a 1.5 in around 12 minutes by January. Is that even possible? Lol
8/mile is a fair old pace for a beginner runner… I think that is the pace one can achieve with some training. You’ll probably need to be average / thin build to do it more easily. Its a fair pace though.
If you have to run longer without taking a breath. Visualize the enemy chasing after you at your speed or even greater than that. Or try tracking how much revolutuon you made in how much you ran. I would also try to think of your own breathing and form. Remember its okay whether you are taking sequential walking/water breaks as if needed. Doing exercises on my own, I lost 25 pounds since last year doing running and basic strength training routines. When all you need to know is as long as you learn from your own pace and will.
I’m 16 and can run an 8 minute mile but I have been doing Xc for 7 years and track for almost 6 so yeah. I’m also a girl but like how can I run a 15 minute 3 mile
I’m very out of shape and need to run an 8 minute for soccer…LIFE IS HARD
My Mile time is 7:30 and in trying to beat the school record which is 6:20
Btw how do you “pace” out the treadmill.Cuz like I have one but don’t really know
I ran 3/4 of my feet does not touch the land, why? The toe, just below it. It make me faster a bit,but i only can do that for a 200 meters only.More from that limit,i will get tired.Less than that, still can get tired.
I’ve been trying to hit 8 minutes for about a month and a half now only running twice a week and I started at 13 minutes (I was very unfit) now I’m at 8.49 and I think I’ve hit the plateau because it’s been around that for two weeks now. Anyone got any tips for getting over a plateau?
I’m a walker trying to convert my body to a runner, but I don’t really have a way to time myself while running. How do most people do this? I think I end up alternating between very short sprints and very long walks.
You are so right about running a mile in the road it usually takes me around 8:25 and 8:45 on average because of traffic.
My fastest during a half marathon was a 7:18 minute mile pace so an 8 minute mile not that hard when you are fit.
Can this workouts be used to better my 5k time?? I already run more than 30 minutes no stop. And how many times a week should I do it? Do I alternate or do both on the same day?? Thanks for the help and the awesome videos. Trying to reach my new year’s resolutions
I started running 3 days a week. This is my 3rd week so far and i have a fitness test coming up in about 28 days.
Currently I’m doing 9:30 per mile, i need to do a 12:38 1.5 mile.
Is this doable? Please give a realistic answer. Thank you.
I hit a 7:21 for my state mile exam, apparently a 6 or lower is an A!! Anyways I did better than my usual not trying 9:30 min mile:)
My average is around 5:18, just keep at it and you will improve
whats scaring me is the fact that this guy is on a tread mill
Breathe through mouth and nose
Because I used to breathe through my elbow
Bro! Thank you so much! Now I can run 5K much easier.. your subscriber from the Philippines ♂️
Best way not to get tired while running is…. don’t filing run, it works every time!
critical bench compound please can you do a how to run a mile in 7 minutes? it would really help me out. Also your vids are great!
Posture is key for better breathing. I wear cool posture shirt from IFGfit
To enhance diaghragm breathing.
I’m just watching some videos on proper running techniques to make sure I’m able to run at peak performance for track. Great video.
honestly, not saying this is a bad video at all, but i don’t understand these “how to” type videos on how to run a mile. all u have to do is get up and run a couple miles and soon you’ll be able to run 8 min miles pretty easily. still a good video tho
Walk breaks. Run a while, walk a short while. Lather/Rinse/Repeat.
My comment is not intended to be mean or arrogant. But if you need to know how to run a mile in 8 minutes, perhaps you should not run a mile.
I did the couch to 5k program and my shins and ankles took a pounding. What do you recommend for bigger guys just starting out?
