If you want you can learn from WooPep guide how to do diet correctly.
I don’t actually eat that much at thanksgiving! Our family doesn’t make a lot of fancy stuff. We just have turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, baked yams, etc. So honestly, I think I’m not doing too bad. X3
I just want to say… I watched that SuperSize Me when I was in high school, and while itw as yucky, I realized I would still eat McDonalds.
But this is just…. shudder yech
Hi there, Doctor. I really am enjoying your channel. I thought your series on healthcare around the world was fascinating. It shows just how bad a job we’re doing here. PS, I didn’t eat that Thanksgiving food at all this year.
This is interesting. Some of the meals you mention are huge, and calorific in the extreme by comparison to similar stuff in the UK. A restaurant meal here will usually be, overall, 1000-1500 calories, and can be much less. We still have some pretty fat people though, although fewer than America.
I’d say just put up with the pain of eating so much. it’s not gaining them any weight
We agree on many things but How can you say animal protein effects insulin as much as sugar? Ridiculous.
I ate two pies. That’s one entire pumpkin & one entire pecan pie.
I’m sure y’all know this, but when listing foods the “c” in “cal” should be uppercase. “Cal” is the abbreviation for “kilocalorie,” whereas “cal” is the abbreviation for the much smaller “calorie.”
Physical evolution created a reasonably efficient machine, base on lean eatings and max works. Cultural evolution approves-if not outright encourages-the reverse; to wit: lean work and max eats. As a result, mindless physical evolution staggers, sicken by the antics of mindful but terribly distraction cultural evolution. Maybe then Thanksgiving is less about being thankful than being the epitome of greed and self-abuse.
Also, don’t forget everyone who does two meals, one for each side of the family!
But what about the serving sizes for many of the foods mentioned? eg. sweet potato casserole 300 cals. But how much of it? The lack of serving sizes bothered me.
I’m surprised people put away so many calories. I have to work really hard at it to manage the minimum 2,000 per day. Not for lack of trying, either.
I think part of it might be my pension for english tea and water over soda.
This isn’t a value judgment. Just one of those things where I’m surprised and occasionally envious.
Hello Chef AJ
In regards to fasting….I find I can’t last more than 4 days when I’m home….doing it myself. I
Live in Ireland and cannot afford to go to Dr. Goldhamers TrueNorth. I came across Dr Valter Longo on you tube and ended up buying his book on the fast mimicking diet….it’s 5 days of restricted calories but backed by science. I don’t understand why he recommends a little fish and for healthy fats he includes olive oil. I know I won’t eat fish as I’m vegan but I’m very curious what you and my other gurus(Dr. Gregory, Dr. Colin Campbell, and Dr Doug Lisle and Dr Alan Goldhammer) think of his research?
As a Brit, is it unusual that I look at all that and think “Bloody hell, that looks delicious!” and is noting them all down for my next tripoli the US?
And no, I’m not chronically obese. In fact, I’m close to underweight
Totally brilliant presentation Dr Greger style allows you to absorb the material he is presenting I have wondered aimlessly around the net for reliable health advice and I have found his content hits the mark on all counts. Have subscribed and will continue to learn from this excellent speaker I’m 60 years old and wish I had at hand the information he provides 10 years ago but it’s never to late to learn or adjust you diet and take on board the latest advice thanks heaps
Sweet potatoes+marshmallows AND EVEN MORE SUGAR? You people are just disgusting. That’s what a 3 year older would suggest to cook…
I’d love to participate in an American Thanksgiving meal sometime during my life. The only problem is that I don’t really like family gatherings. So I’ll most likely end up eating pizza alone at home:(
Yeah! Holidays are for eating stupid amounts of food, after all there’s only a couple of eating based holidays per year. Might as well enjoy it and live respectably most of the time.
1500 at highest for up around here, not much for thanksgiving in october.
Can you even absorb all the calories you eat in one of those meals?
She’s a bit off thinking people will actually:
1. Portion out their food in reasonable servings.
2. Have one serving of things
I normally eat around 2500 calories a day but on Thanksgiving and Christmas I definitely get that much in one meal.
I recently started trying to get more calories since I just switched jobs and am now doing over 20,000 steps/9.5miles per day. It’s difficult though cause I hate trying to work while feeling uncomfortably full so (on top of regular meals) I’m mostly just eating a couple cookies every few hours. I need to find some healthy high-calorie snacks.
I love how my dad just bought freshly baked cookies from the bakery literally right after I watched this
Was it planned to have Vsauce3 make a vid about how much someone can eat just a day later?
Can anyone tell me what Dr. G said about walnuts? So happy to be reminded about sulfurafanes (so). Dr. G saved my life.
I love this guy. He makes the bummer news of eating healthy more palatable. Totally changed my diet as of about 4 months ago.
Watching this video minutes after stuffing my face with last huge serving of leftover stuffing… at 1:30 am! Ugh.
That smile. Doug looks like the cat that ate the canary:) Adorbs.
This is sickening.
i… I don’t even need to express my amazement at how fucked up the meals are in the USA.
In the entirity of Belgium, we don’t have a single company that would even think of making meals this f*cked up; cuz we’re not insane!
Thanks Dr. Buzzkill! I don’t feel bad enough about the liquor and almost never ending food on Thanksgiving. Now I’ll have this flying around my head all day. Absolutely love your videos though, keep up the good work. Nothing better than facts and rational thinking to keep things real.
i like quiche. my dad makes a killer broccoli swiss mushroom quiche, its to die for. its got eggs and broccoli an mushrooms, those are healthy, right?
I maintain my weight through eating 8 times a day in small portions, almost 3 yrs now,my weight never gain again,
Did you know that Dr. Lisle is teaching a 6 week course on The Pleasure Trap? He will be doing LIVE video lectures and Q & A every week starting on Monday, April 22. You can find out more here: https://click.thrivecart.com/escape-the-pleasure-trap/?fbclid=IwAR3UcPUgPg0tW69yMnXduN4QpqI-EUcJx9kbSYcgeNHJz9n6b5RaY1Wew9o
You’re always advising people to look at the studies. There are no studies here. The Calorie Control Council’s “research” consists of a list of common holiday foods, with a calorie count attached to each one. (Not to mention that the CCC is apparently funded by the diet industry, so they have a motive here which you don’t address, but perhaps you have the same motive, for different reasons.) For each food the CCC lists, the serving size is way bigger than standard (e.g. a standard vegetable serving is 1/2 c, but they’re listing a serving size of 1 c of green bean casserole). The calorie count assumes that the “average American” would consume the entire inflated serving size of each of those foods. The NY Times food blogger worked hard to find the highest-calorie recipes of each of these common Thanksgiving foods in order to get as close to the CCC’s claim as possible and, like the CCC, assumed rather generous portion sizes for each. Who eats a huge meal like that and then has TWO full size pieces of pie (1/8 of a pie each)? (Pie, incidentally, was about half the total calories of the meal.) You’ve also ignored her point that the gut secretes a hormone that causes nausea after consuming 1500 calories in one sitting. Saying “it isn’t a stretch” to imagine her difficult-to-reach 2400 calorie meal could easily reach the CCC’s hypothetical 3000 calorie “average” is ridiculous. I’m not arguing that people don’t overeat at Thanksgiving, but I am surprised that you chose to present this information without real data to back it up. Further, citing the calorie counts of menu items doesn’t tell you whether that item was shared (and by how many people), taken home in a doggie bag, or left half-eaten on the table.
I’m only 8 minutes into this but I have to stop & say…it takes some real self love & self honesty to even begin to understand what this man is saying & everyone’s extremely fortunate that this woman (AJ) has facilitated it. My perspective & what I know to be true from my life experience is that emotions are wonderful things that are “guideposts” in life to direct you through your journey with unadulterated feedback. Until you realize that you need to deal with the situation in front of you or what happened in the past & not focus on the fact that your not OK with what happened will you stop the ridiculous blaming of emotional eating which has really nothing to do with food & bodily hunger. You’re hungry all right, but it isn’t for food. Triggers are your great way of recognizing your emotions (tools) & embracing yet another opportunity to deal with what is happening/what happened before & the fact that you get to deal with it & get it out of there. Until you deal with you & work on the root cause, not the fact that you can’t handle it, will you come to see the profoundness of what Doug’s saying. Are you going to get crazy & eat a dozen donuts or whatever because you planned a camping trip & it’s raining outside? Why don’t you choose to be thankful water’s coming from the sky & how amazingly beautiful it is that you get to experience it instead of the fact that you’re not ok with it. Life will be lighter, happier & more enjoyable when you welcome & serve every moment in front of you & thank your emotions for guiding you along the way to a beautiful life. You’ll have a miserable life otherwise with all the blaming of everything & everyone else on your “emotional eating” that really is a self torture, ridiculous notion. After all acid is falling from the sky on Venus or Mars, I can’t remember which it is. Embrace feelings/emotions with grace, FEEL them, use them for what they’re intended for & then let them go. Start deciding to love yourself & respond accordingly how a human being would act. Basically relax into what’s happening, allow it, decide to let it go & surrender to life. If there’s something to really deal with after that then do it…but calling “emotional eating” because you’re actually not ok in your head is BS & you’ll get served up another lesson by this great universe to try again.
Why do you constantly single out fat grams but no mention of carbohydrates? And why the emphasis on sodium after your video saying that low sodium diets are more harmful than high sodium diets? I love your videos but you can be a little inconsistent.
Holy shit it’s been a year since the last thanksgiving video?
As a reference, military members/people classified as highly active require a caloric intake of over 4000 calories a day, and MREs are designed to give that.
I started counting calories almost a week ago in order to lose some weight and thankfully I’m not American so there will be no Thanksgiving dinner here but during christmas there is usually a lot of food and candy being consumed. I will of course eat this year to, maybe not as much but I will break my 1500 calories limit that day.
Besides, if you eat healthy most of the time you can overeat sometimes because the body still can’t absorb all that fat if it’s not used to it anyway. You also chock the body into burning more calories the following days even if you go back to eating healthy again.
I admit that on Thanksgiving, my diet ends up on a grazing menu, but my family has tried to have it so that we have a big breakfast (we don’t really eat breakfast all that often) so that we can have an early dinner, and spend the rest of the night relaxing (or, when I worked retail, getting sleep to prepare for Black Friday hell.) But Dr. Carroll is right, it wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for the fact that Americans eat like this ALL THE TIME. My Thanksgiving dinner plate is probably going to be turkey, mashed potato with gravy, sweet potato casserole with pecans, a steamed veg of some sort, wine, and dinner rolls. But breakfast will be french toast with sausage, and during the day, we will have prosciutto and salami wrapped mozzarella, mini dill pickles, and other finger foods.
Dr. Greger is a perfect representative of the vegan movement.
Wait… Americans is that real? 1:05
Marshmallows on a casserole?
Mmmm, Thanksgiving. I would take smaller portions of everything than what you mentioned… but then I’d probably go back for seconds. I’m allowed to pig out twice a year.:) I’m a bit appalled by the calories in that french toast though. Yikes!
We don’t have Thanksgiving in the UK but we do all that on Christmas Day. In fact I have 2 full dinners on that day. One at my mums about 1pm and then one later on with my gf’s family at about 8pm
Great job editing this! You took an entertaining and energetic speaker to a new level with the editing!
I think you are fine having the occasional feast. All those other really high calorie things; my family gets to eat those once every few months if we are lucky. Our typical dinner is home-cooked: rice, potatoes or pasta with a piece of meat on the side and a heaping helping of veggies or salad. We really love our veggies in my family.
This video made me really sad.
I think I’ll console myself with pumpkin pie, whipped cream, and milk.
i dont eat a 1/3rd of that on thanksgiving. and your analogy about bigmacs doesnt help me because i’ve never eaten a bigmac, even though i worked at mcnasties for 2 years.
Half a cup of mashed potatoes and gravy? What is this, amateur hour?
In all seriousness though, this makes me hate myself for eating so much and it’s not even thanksgiving yet.
noooo I don’t want to hear about this
I can eat a whole can of cranberry sauce myself D:
Drat! I just made a huge purchase on DFTBA.com! I should have waited. Oh well, more money for the awesome people doing awesome things.
Years ago I heard pure unsweetened cranberry juice would help with bladder/kidney infection, and at that point I didn’t have a medical provider so one evening when having a terrible painful experience with one of those infections even bleeding and in desperation I bought some cranberry juice (hard to find no sugar cranberry juice by the way, companies say on front of bottle 100% cranberry juice but on the back will say all this added sugar ) anyway after finding one at Safeway, I think it was something like Open Nature or something like that, I drank about 8 oz of it by plugging my nose and chugging it and slamming some water after. I did this twice at least. and the next day it was totally gone, no bleeding. No shivers or pain. I was amazed but so worried it may have not worked, I went to the doctor anyway. They tested me and said I had no infection and couldn’t have Ever had one saying cranberry juice doesn’t work that it would be impossible and I would be bleeding besides if I had really had an infection. (but I WAS bleeding before I tried the juice. ♀️) Anyway the doctors have told me several times it doesn’t work yet for me it has worked 100% of the time. Go figure! I have read of people who drink 1 to 2 oz every day and never have had one for years. SO it seems obvious to me that there is a lot the medical field still has to find out despite doctors well meaning intentions.
What a joke. So sad you couldn’t talk about something useful and backed up by science, instead you are just peddling this crap with your only support being a dieting website rather than actual research. You should be ashamed.
I have to say that just reminds me of my Christmas dinner at my Granmother’s house. Here in England we can put away quite a lot on a Sunday’s dinner but no where near that amount but Thanksgiving is a once a year thing so I think we can give the USA a break on that one.
Your data is biased. I’m vegan and I don’t get half as many calories on thanksgiving. Plus the added benefit that I’m not contributing to animal suffering.
I seem to recall reading that it was possible to add 5-8 pounds at T-Day dinner. I know I try to reach such lofty goals.
This guy sounds just like Dr. Joel Fuhrman (“Eat to Live” series of books). Same material.
The snacks are what get you on a diet. Because you don’t feel it’s that much food. But it adds up. And condiments when you make a sandwich, hot dog, or hamburger.
I like how the McDonalds Big Mac has become the go to food to put quantities of fat and calories into perspective when analogizing. I guess it’s just that well known.
Are you serious?! That is like no food at all. I know I will be eating close to triple that much. Goal is hitting 8000+ calories this thanksgiving, which I will achieve happily.
Don’t know if Dr. Carrol reads the comments, I wouldnt expect him to. However, in case he does, I would be interested to hear his opinion on the growing school of thought that saturated fats are not inherently unhealthy and that the basis for recommending a diet that largely avoids them is based almost solely on Keys’ arguably outright fraudulent Seven Countries Study.
A trial on reversal of SEVERE non-whimpy low back pain NEEDS to be done! I’m volunteering.
Very helpful information from Dr. Lisle as always. I have found that when I have water fasted for several days my appetite disappears after day 2. My house could be filled with trigger foods and I could easily turn away from them while fasting. I believe there is a hormonal component to all of this involving insulin, blood glucose and other hormones as well. Perhaps if total starches are too high, although they are beneficial foods, in some of us it creates a hormonal situation that promotes over consumption. I have found this to be the case in particular with refined sugar and sugar/ fat combinations but perhaps even high amounts of natural starches could overwhelm certain people’s ability to control their intake. I believe Dr. Oliveros had information about leptin and insulin resistance that may apply here. Any thoughts on this would be very appreciated!
15 years ago I was obese, more than 100 pounds over my healthy weight. I managed to lose 70, and keep them off.
But I stalled, and it wasn’t until I found your channel and bought your “Secrets to Ultimate Weight Loss” that I have been able to go the rest of the way I needed to go. I have now reached a total loss of 100 pounds, and have a normal BMI. I still have a way to go, as I do not want to stay at the upper end of my healthy weight range, but with the help of your book and these wonderful lectures I know I will get there.
Thank you so much Chef AJ!
Coconut oil is good for you and GMO’d soy beans expresses a protein that our bodies aren’t used to. In fact we are more suited to eating meat than GMO’d soy.
Wow, somewhat surprised to hear that folks are “universally” converted after spending time at True North or a similar retreat with all that great food! I turned myself around a few years back-just from books and shows/videos by the Good Docs many of us now know. Being quite capable and used to making my own meals went heavily in my favor I suppose. Very sad that so few folks prepare their own food these days. Eat well!
Hi Chef AJ This has been the best interview to date between you and Dr. Lisle! It was incredibly informative and helpful. I was honored to meet Dr. Lisle at a Farms 2 Forks weekend retreat many years ago and look forward to meeting you in person someday. Thanks for all your great work!! Jan
43:00 Issue of eating to the point of bloating
Thank you so much for this information! This theory is really helpful because I experienced this myself.
Myself, I stopped the McDougal style of eating (no oil) because my hands always reached for the calorie dense foods like nuts and pasta, but those are way too big triggers for me. If I have to eat those to get the right caloric density for my body, I feel like crap after overeating on those because I just can’t stop eating them.
The advise of starting the meal with starches wouldn’t work, because even fat starches like whole oats are not calorie dense enough.
So I decided to start adding oil again.
I was afraid at first but it went really well! I find my satisfaction and I don’t overeat, because oil is being consumed in the food. Unlike nuts and pasta, oil doesn’t have the same effect when the food gets so attractive I cannot stop anymore. This applies only for adding oils in modest amounts, I use e.v. olive and flax seed oils. Preferably raw after cooking, but I use olive oil for frying the vegetables for soup as well, or frying the vegan burgers. As long as my food doesn’t taste greasy oil is my preferred way of increasing caloric density to the comfortable level.
Dr furman. And dr greger push beans in a big way. How many do you eat and recommend.
Hey Healthcare Triage: Like the channel, and can appreciate that caloric intake is not understood by many. But since this and a few other videos in the past have come up on the subject of calories, why not make a video that discusses the science behind nutrition? Haven’t seen your stance on the quality of calories consumed or if BMR is accurate
Thank you so much Chef AJ and Dr. Lisle. You are amazing people and I’m so grateful to you for sharing this information with us!
This was FANTASTIC!!!!! So informative and clarifying!!!
With much gratitude, I say thanks to the both of you!!!
Seeing you guys makes me so happy. I just love both of you:-)
He doesn’t look healthy at all. He looks like a floppy weasel clown. Veganism causes serious mental illness, hair loss, a miserable sickly life and an early death.
What a gift this message…no…this information and perspective on emotional eating is. Thank you for making the effort and taking your time (both of you!) to put this out on a holiday weekend. Dr Lisle’s centered energy and pleasant / persistent communication is settling right at home with me. Happy Holidays to you all. And he used the word “Odyssey” to describe our lives…which tickled me to no end.
He doesn’t look old or unhealthy. We tend to associate balding with old age. I’m beyond grateful for what he does.
So, and so much I didn’t know. But I know I was led here because of my desire of wanting to live a wholistic lifestyle.
Veganism the NWO starvation based eugenic diet of choice. Wake up fools.
Okay, this one is VITAL! Eye-opening, mind-blowing, and life-saving. (Life on Earth, that is. )
This was a very interesting talk, but I disagree that children have a harder time wanting to lose weight. When I was 12/13 I went on the McDougall diet myself and started exercising and lost 20 lbs and have kept it off for 4 years.
I’ve watched to so many of these videos and I learn something new with each. This one was particularly enlightening, thank you! I appreciate the food quantity guideline as well, I’m one of those people who do well “checking off boxes.”
As someone who loves food and doesn’t mind going to get fast food or restaurant food every now and again, I don’t care. I maintain my calories every day of the year anyways and even if I cheat once or twice a month I have maintained my extremely healthy body, per my doctor. It helps that I believe in diversity in my diet and I even include small amounts of dairy(usually when I don’t get as much meat in a day). It also helps that I am mildly active working out 30-60 minutes a day, almost every day. I know there are way too many people that get fast food every day, trust me when I was a crazy teenage adult that was all I did, and there are too many people that don’t grow out of that mindset because food is delicious and addictive, although not as damaging as alcohol, cigarettes or other drugs. And did you just seriously mention holistic solutions to fix this? And you call yourself a scientist.
Dear all the people in the comment section shouting “MUH WOT IS THIS I DON’T EAT THAT MUCH”,
Please learn how averages work.
Yours, the rest of the world.
Love learning about the evolutionary angle of our behaviours! Thanks Dr. Lisle
anorexic charlatan with issues promoting a non human diet lol
I really enjoy this channel’s in-depth discussions based on current, well-conducted research. This episode seemed to be a little of the mark.
2000 calories a day for a woman?
That’s way to much for a lot of people.
I tend to eat less at night and workout fasted in the am, am thinking I could add my potato to first meal rather then bulks greens that make me feel bloated all day, does anyone have experience with this?
thank you for the video, i just ordered the chef aj bundle from mama sezz, thank you for that too!
Can I cut a head of broccoli or cauliflower n just freeze pieces without blanching,?
Thank you to you both. You are such a blessing to all of us. Grateful for both of you this Holiday season!!!!!!!!!!
Consciousness and motivation? What is that word he is using?
I do the food no problem use to have a drink at weekend stopped no problem why the heck can’t I stop smoking!!!!
Happy thanksgiving to the 2 best people they really changed my life so thankful!!
YES like video, but I have done this before but it will help if you shock your body one or two time out of month that way you can stay on track
49:40 is a great point that almost everyone is not aware of. Thanks for this info!
One of the great humanitarians of our time. Saved my life and the lives of countless others. His selfless devotion is inspring. Dr. G, my vegan crush!
grate fun and super nutritious information. just the editing is pretty wild. take it easy with the closeups pls 😉
I’m gonna be honest I absolutely love that the questions are cut out, they can give me bad second hand embarassment sometimes and I Always skip anyways
If you like Dr Greger you wont want to miss this!!!! Dr Greger’s AWESOME story and Hall of Fame recipient: https://youtu.be/-AZVPziricM
Amazing video, watching 2 Nd time now.
So thankful for info about broccoli as I love it, but can’t eat it raw☹️
Could anyone tell me what he advises at 38 minutes? For urinal infections? Not a native speaker cant catch it:(
Lifechanging and Lifesaving information. Nothing less than that…for people that are in REAL trouble. Thank you so so much for this.
At 30:00 you mention the doctor with heart disease. That’s my BIL. I just now keep my mouth shut. He tells his patients to go Keto.
wrong on the sugar substitute understanding. I use Splenda daily, have a CGM, and never goes up at all. Can of Coke and it will go up from 110 to 175 in a heartbeat. Where is his study on his theory?
For your coffee just put in sugar free syrup and almond creamer.

Images of dinner plates heaped with unhealthy amounts of food are not helpful. If you are trying to educate your audience, try showing pictures of sensible dinners.
Dr Greger is a rock star. He’s the Elvis in the world of nutrition and health. Love his work.
I would def breach 2.5K and 95% sure I’d surpass 3k for dinner. A lot less than 1.5k for other meals though.
I am sciatica and have been a vegetarian for 40 years, but just went on a vegan diet, so I will keep you posted
I don’t eat breakfast or lunch on thanksgiving! seriously who does that? But we eat around 2:30 and I usually have a slice of Turkey breast, 1 cup stuffing (not sausage just plain), 2 slices cranberry sauce, 1 cup Cesar salad, 1 cup mashed potatoes and gravy, 1 slice pumpkin pie, 1 slice pudding pie, 1 corn on the cob, 1 cup collard greens, and maybe more. if I’m hungry like 5 hours later I’ll have another piece of pie. I’m a teenager though, so I can eat alot. (i’m not overwieght)
no muscles, bald, man boobs, grey… all at 47 years young… uhm, no thank you, i’ll get my advice somewhere else.
All OK with the vegetables and fruits, but what about the 15 nutrients that doesn’t exist in plants??? Vitamin A, Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, pyridoxamine), Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3, Vitamin F, Vitamin K2, Carnosine, Carnitine, Creatine, Taurine, Heme-Iron, Coenzyme Q10, CLA, Zinc
(Probiotics, Enzymes, Hormones).
OMGod… he can’t even say the word “milk” without retching… HA HA HA HA HA!!!
Now if I ruled the world, instead of making it so food has to be labelled in terms of calories/kJ I would make it so all food has to be labelled with how much fat the sum of all the absorbed energy would be converted to in the body. That way it’s much more understandable and user-friendly to the public.
He’s a good man, Dr Greger. He does make mistakes. Do not blindly accept what anyone says. To know Truth, requires a great deal of work. Veggies that contain higher amounts of oxalates also contain higher amounts of calcium. Calcium, actually, neutralises the deleterious effects of oxalates by binding with the oxalates and removing them from the body. Another thing he said, regarding coconut oils, they are actually extremely good for health and counteract diabetes and heart disease. Societies with high coconut oil intake have nearly no heart disease-of those not adopting Western fast foods etc. He carries with him just some of the false realities but Dr. Greger is very helpful with most of the things he has been saying..
I agree with Dr Lisle. I ate a big salad and steamed veggies. Then I ate rice with veggies and I still got cravings. I guess it was because I had limited the carbs (I had had just a cup each of oats and rice).
Thank you very much for the interview! One incredible thing Chef AJ. Can you believe this? I saw the clip of an athlete and in the end she bit her gold medal. The medal looked so much like a giant potato chip that I got cravings for chips:-D Thank God my environment was clean!
So when a bug bites it or you bite it, shapoofee instantly the two chemicals nix and create that other chemical which is heat stable, the “beneficial” one, but if you cut it up it takes 45 minutes to create, lapshu naushie muzhik vsem veshaet
I just love learning from Dr. Greger!!! I was diagnosed with Crohns,s disease 2 years ago and immediately went on a vegan diet and threw out the medication. I feel great. Anyone have any experience? advise? good health to all:))))
you talked about sulphorophane for an hour, but never mention at what dosage per pound in vivo has noticeable health effects… how much sulphorophane should be the daily dose? no sulphorophane extracts yet?.. imo this talk is such a waste of valuable time… praise the Lord there will always be meat eaters to bury you… i hope your kids wont spit in your casket
Greger’s voice sometimes hits high notes that only bats can hear.
this guy looks like death and people treat him like the messiah of nutrition haha
Dr Greger I know I am supposed to eat my greens, but watching you, do I have to Dress green too???
Thanks for the video. I’m still waiting for a response from Klaper regarding my possible bloating and in parallel I made an appointment with a local GI doctor but that will be in late February. Meanwhile trying to stay away from the processed food as usual since that is the only thing that seems to help with what might be bloating, my stomach distention after food as well as general stomach being large in proportion to the rest of my body unless I completely avoid processed food for several months and exercise vigorously regularly at which point I go from normal 20 BMI down to 17.5 BMI so I’m not sure which state is better, being bloated on a 90+ percent whole plant food protocol with occasional junk food binges at normal BMI or being less bloated on a 100 percent whole plant food protocol (with some more calorie dense healthy foods still incorporated in moderation) but underweight BMI.
I tried to google this and I couldn’t find any numbers. I am wondering if I am pathologizing just normal stomach behaviour is it normal stomach distention for waist size (measuring the slimmest part of my abdominal region) to increase 5 cm after food and stay that way the entire day until after I had 8 hours sleep?
If it’s just how my stomach is supposed to act then so be it, I will just eat as healthy as I can and try not to think about it… but if it’s something I can change without going crazy I’d like to know. I mean, we are supposed to eat until we’re full so this is sustainable… trying to get used to eat less food sounds to me like a one way exit to the pleasure trap.
As for the proper amount of food, I start the day with a vegetable salad, I guess it’s a pound or almost a pound. Sometimes I have it with almonds or tahini, the occasional whole wheat bread but most days it’s just the vegetables. Sometimes I go for two of these.
Then I go for some fruits, a pound sounds about right.
Then I make a stew, that’s about two pounds.
And if I am still hungry after that I snack on fruits and vegetable salads… if I am really hungry, for example the day after a really long run, I might have a second stew.
That doesn’t sound to me like overeating, doesn’t feel to me like overeating… sometimes I have more calorie dense foods like medjool dates, put some tofu in my stews and the tahini, whole wheat bread and almonds mentioned above so I don’t avoid calorie dense healthy foods completely, I have one or two servings of them several times a week… when I have them it doesn’t feel satiating, I feel like no matter what I always have to have those 4-6 pounds a day to feel satiated. It doesn’t hurt. No problems digesting. I just have stomach distention.
I don’t feel like adding more calorie dense foods will help my stomach distend less, I end up wanting to activate my stretch receptors the same amount… and trying to regulate feels like trying to regulate how much air I breathe, part of what I like about whole plant food diet is I can eat as much as I want… does that mean I just need to accept having a constantly distended stomach?
Great information, as usual! Much appreciated, Dr. Lisle and Chef AJ!
This is why nutritional biochemistry needs to be taught in medical school. Big pharma wouldn’t allow that though, so the good doctors like Greger, Hyman, Fuhrman, etc., have to do their own research. That’s my goal as a future doctor as well! BtwSulforaphane is one of my favorite phytonutrients! Dr. Rhonda Patrick has a lot of videos on it as well! Curcumin is number 1 for me! I treat my phytonutrients like I treat my Pokemongotta catch em all!:D
Thank You, Dr Greger You continue to educate and inspire me to take better actions & make better food choices to achieve better health Love you ❤️
Been following Dr. Greger for months and have his books. I thought I knew it all but this video taught me even more.
is it bad that i eat about 6000 callories a day ( 9000+ at buffets and steak n shake) and yet i only wiegh 135 pounds at the age of 21?…………. i love my metabolism:)
Haven’t watched this yet but I’m guessing I’m going to feel sad afterwards, aren’t I?
beyond meat burger will kill you… it’s the brainchild of the illuminati… that’s why it’s being advertised at half time of pro sports games on channels like NBC, TNT, ESPN…. ppl who fall into the fake meat trap are not very smart
this guy includes 3 professions in one go, Comedian, Doctor and Motivational Speaker
thank you for calling out coconut oil. Coconut oil shouldn’t be ingested. It’s for external application to your hair!
thank you God that is sooo me….here i am…slim…supposedly healthy….fit…driven largely only by curiosity to check out the state of my arteries…have a Cardiac CT Angiogram like i heard Dr Esselstyn talk about….and whammo….slapped very hard in the face with the news that i have a partial blockage of 25-49% in the LAD artery???…im the healthy one so my husband has the CT Angiogram too….40% blockage…..watched Forks over Knives and changed our diet overnight…along with our 16 yr old
thank you God i fot Dr Lisle’s description of being a highly conscientious person….now very VERY motivated to completely go 100% low fat whole food plant based.(no avocado or nuts either)..very grateful to have this info….the scary thing is i hardly ate any meat….just chicken with no skin 2-3 times per week… but LOTS of low fat dairy….1 to 1.5 litres a day of skim milk….for years….thinking i was protecting my bones …..eternally grateful to dr caldwell esselstyn who kindly spoke to me at least 3 times over the phone…guiding me….etc….very grateful
oh!!..& within 3 weeks of going plant based my cholesterol dropped 34%….husbands 37%….& my husbands blood pressure normalized from high for the first time since he was 30……very exciting….all without meds
Dr. Greger is so smart and funny, it’s actually kind of attractive.
I expect better from you, regarding supplements and naturopaths. Your opinion is not well formed. Surely you can challenge yourself and call the head of a college of naturopathy. Try Dr. Jonathan Prousky of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. He will give you a run for your money,.
SMARTEN UP!
Love these lectures! Why do I love these you might ask? Cause knowledge is power and this information is practical when implemented. That is exactly what I did. I reversed my Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia plus the side effects of metabolic disorders that ranged from sciatica, obesity, arthritis to just name a few. Now 110 lbs lighter running marathons medication free since March. But I’m still baffled by the ignorance of people that don’t chose to make decisions to better their health. If I can do it, you can do it. But then again that would disprove Darwin “survival of the fittest” theory
Input: Ellen G. White the peasant woman that founded the new 7th day advents’ and predicted that Cancer was a living organize transmitted in meat, when the Mayo Clinic denied it (I an 81 and when all this happened I was a kid) also said that in the latter days animal biproducts like milk and cheese will transmit cancer. Eugene Ellis Esq.
The best nutrition expert I have ever heard. NO one comes close to Dr Greger! I wish I had had chemistry teachers in HS like him. The ones I had turned me off to hard science (I did become a social scientist however).
This guy’s teeth are rotting out of his mouth and yet people take his word on health as gospel..
Thank goodness we don’t have thanksgiving in my country.. then again, there’s still plenty of sneaky ways my diet is ruined.. I ate 2500 kcal of chocolate in three days.. I feel shameless..
Awesome Q&A session from Dr.Greger. Being able to show my clients at Halifax Health Coach these kind of question and answer videos is really, really useful and helps to back everything up with science. Thank you Dr.Greger!
So the best for sulfuraphane would be to blend raw broccoli into a shake with some mustard powder, leave 45 mins and then drink
Why. I did not need this information. Well, I mean, I did need it. And it’s good to know. But now I feel guilty and I haven’t even eaten yet.
i truely enjoy watching Dr Gregor but does he ever stand still..lol so much energy im dying over here, the camera keeps moving,,
I love his message and his unique delivery. He can make talking about paint peeling sound fun and interesting.
