Hey Erik, want to know when does the lottery begins and ends, to sign up for year 2020,,,,,, thanks
QD: Registered for San Francisco Marathon w/ goal of getting a BQ time there. Also registered for Bay to Breakers as a nice tune up for it 2 months before
Mile 1: IM GOING WAAAY TO FAST really nice vlog though
QOD:yeah,a 67km road race in January and 50km trail in February..limited time for next year so probably just that two
I’m planning to run Berlin, Kyiv for 42, Odessa (Ukraine) for 2, maybe Amsterdam if Berlin lottery will not end well for me)
I just ran my first 10km today. Slowly going to work my way up! What an inspirational videothank you!!
was that 3hrs & 30. wow and you talked most of the way. great effort Anna. Well done.
Damn 36th overall at the New York Marathon is incredible! Not the time you wanted but such an awesome performance especially considering the situation. Congrats on shredding the hell out of both races!
Another great vlog, I will be entering the lottery again. I didn’t get in with my two previous attempts, but like you say! why wouldn’t you enter? its free and you have a 15% chance. It is less than a 5% chance of getting into London via the lottery with over 420,000 trying their luck!!
NYRR did offer a virtual 26.2 run/race during the marathon weekend of 2018, where those who completed the run and uploaded to Strava would gain a non-complimentary entry to the 2019 NYC marathon but you couldn’t use the 2018 NYCM as your virtual run. I think it was $100 non member & £80 members to register for the virtual run, which is far less expensive than the tour operators. I am pretty sure that they will be running this again in Nov 2019 for a place in 2020.
Awesome, I have done loads of Marathons but not made it over to NYC yet. Its on the list though!:)
I have a 50 mile in 2020 ready, two trail marathons and three halfs.
In december some more will be aded.
Do you know if there’s a higher chance to get in through the NY residents lottery or the regular one?
Well done. Please make a running shirt that says “get some butter”
QD: I’m pretty certain I have guaranteed entry for NYC 2020. I’m hyped!
QD: I’m preparing for a slew of half marathons but I’ve only penned in February and nothing else beyond that. After my baby arrives (InsyaAllah God willing), my wife and I are planning for some stroller runs at shorter distances e.g. 5K, 10K. 2021 I’m aiming for my first ever full marathon!
So far I only have marathon race (9th Feb) on but would like to do a shorter road race like 10k and HM and few trail races.
Anna, that was an amazing video, thank you. I ran the London 20 years ago, I nearly bugged out at 19 miles due to cramp I couldn’t get rid of, however, eventually I limped over the line, what a feeling. I’m now 54 and I’ve just got back into running and intend to do another marathon, you’ve inspired me!!! Love the channel, it really does make a difference to my training and understanding, power to you all, thank you.
QotD NYC 2020 for my first marathon through their 9+1 local program
CONGRATULATIONS SETH!!!!
I am running my first 5k this February. My training style is a hybrid between weight lifting (focusing on compound movements) and some cardio! After watching you and a few other youtube runners, I am starting to change my training style. I never thought I could run a mile straight and now I can easily run a mile!!!! I know its no where near to what you do or no where near the miles you cover (lol yes, a joke compared to you), but watching you inspires me to do more! Thank you!
Anna, watching this made me cry! You smashed it and I’ve felt those emotions before on a horrendous marathon in Glencoe, but when you said that guy hard ‘tell me I cant!’ on his chair it pushed me over the edge I am pregnant so a bit emotional but thank you for posting this. I can’t wait to get back to running for amazing charities like this one x
QD: Manchester Marathon in April for me. I’ve ran around 11/12 half marathons and this will be my first so I’m a little anxious about the increase in weekly mileage. Going to be following Hal Higdon’s Novice 2 plan I think.
Respect! And you have a talent bringing your emotions across
I got emotional right along with you. This was great to watch.
For some reason, watching this video is giving me anxiety LOL
QOD: Vienna marathon in April 2020, and I’m trying to get into Berlin for October 2020, if that doesn’t work out then I might run Amsterdam again.
Hi, thanks for the info! Would like to know if I can participate in the lottery even though I’m not a US citizen or resident and I live abroad?
Epic, Seth, epic! QOD: Have a qualifier for Chicago so headed back there
I’d so love to do the New York marathon.. it’s definitely up there on my bucket list of runs.. well done Anna… just find it funny you said someone said you’d never run a marathon.. you smashed this, and I’m currently watching the day 1 vid of you doing the World Toughest Island race.. get in!
On a sad note,, YouTube.. please sort out your adverts in this vid.. every time there was a fantastic child who was ringing a bell to celebrate surviving cancer, and living. I had an advert in the middle. Not impressed.
Nice video! If I had to suggest something I would suggest fixing your running form. You are over striding and heel striking. This not only makes you slower but it also significantly increases the likely hood of getting injured, those injuries being shin splints, hip pain and runners knee. Other than that your knee drive, forward lean, and posture is very good. There are a lot of videos on YouTube on how to fix heel striking and over striding. I suggest watching Sage Canaday since he’s made a lot of videos about this
That was so emotional to watch. I know this is old now, but well done. You didn’t just run a marathon, you were able to talk, even in the last mile. Inspiring.
This entire video was a real inspiration. I just wanna get up and get running right now. Anna you’re truly amazing! Also, the little girl in video singing “ring my bell” his me squarely in the feels! Just amazing!
I can’t believe I’ve only just watched this. Total respect, Anna! You had me in tears and I am now even more determined to complete my first marathon (hopefully London, but more likely Chester) in the next few years,
If I was running with you I would start singing bon Jovi with you. I would also be the annoying person singing show tunes the whole time.
Truly Inspirational Anna. Makes me want to go train for my first marathon. I know I would be as emotional as you are.
QoD: Started the race sched, not all of the one’s I’m leaning toward are set yet, so that’s delaying me.
Wow that was an inspiring video on so many levels. Well done girl, wasn’t expecting that emotion but the effort, the cause what a wonderful feeling it must have been crossing the finish line (minus the obvious pain!)
You brought back A LOT of memories of my NYCM…..so long ago but the memories live on. The worst parts for me were the LONG strait aways and the humidity. Loved it but it was hard than I thought it was going to be. Congrats on your run…you will cherish it forever.
Pikes Peak full marathon for sure and then we will see what else happens!!!
Thank you Anna. I’ve just watched your video and a switch has flicked in my head. I’m going to run a marathon. I’ve only ever done one half marathon before. After I finished I swore I’d never even contemplate running a full marathon. I’d convinced myself that my body could never do it but watching this has changed everything. You’re
a truly inspiring person and I felt every single mile that you ran. Massive well done and for such an incredibly worthy cause. I have two young children myself and I must admit I was welling up watching…thank you again
p.s. Your channels awesome
Hi Seth, just discover your channel, first congratulation and then one small question, you talk about the shoes but what about the socks? Do you recommend some compared to other types with all your experience?
QD: I turn 60 on Sunday, and as a result, I seem to be qualifying for everything BQ’d for 2020 at NYC last year (and again in NJ this past April); my half marathon times this year (NYC Half and Brooklyn Half) qualify me for next year’s NYC. And my Dublin Marathon time last week gives me a 20 min cushion for Boston ’21. So lots of racing still ahead, if I stay healthy!! It was great to meet you at Saturday’s shakeout in Central Park, but somehow missed you when cheering in the Bronx.
Great work Anna, you concurred those longgg roads.
Ben you too, of course.
Hopefully when events are allowed again, I can do a race of some kind. 5k or 10k, no marathon yet:) Never done it, but what an amazing experience.
I’m a bit late to the comments here, but I just chanced upon your channel! Congratulations on your run and your support for a worthy charity. I ran NY in 1990, 3.46, and it was wonderful. I was fundraising for Diabetic Research I started having to use insulin in 1972, 4 injections a day and a similar number of blood tests, that’s a lot of perforations! 66 years old now, still running, 22 marathons so far! Keep it up and keep inspiring people!
Anna, what an inspiration you are! I’ve never liked running as a kid but started watching The Running Channel a month ago and now looking forward to my morning run-walk-jogs xD hopefully, will be able to run a 5k soon! thank you so much for all the tips and the motivation!
Few months late but now i know what my aim is for the next couple of years is, I want to run a mathran
Have next years schedule already planned, and looking at my first 1/2 marathon.
It is these daily vlogs from you that keep me inspired and push that little bit harder everytime.
Look forward to them every day
Keep up the great work
Jesus is Lord, He loves you, He died to wash you clean of your sins, and He rose again, defeating death. Repent, meaning turn from your sins, and put your faith in Him to have eternal life!
The Race of Faith
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Congrats! Excellent finish. Regarding the shoes, and this may have been mentioned, you can get a Flyknit upper on a Next% sole through Nike.com. Also requires paying full price from Nike, but just wanted to point that out.
I’m using GoPro Hero 7 Black and when I upload my running videos on YouTube the quality goes down and the videos are blurry. Do you know how I can avoid.this.
You are my hero. I want to do this so badly. I’m still struggling with getting to the half marathon. But when I watch you, I desperately want to do a full marathon. I get so emotional with / for you. Thank you for this and for the inspiration.
I was about to sign up for this marathon but I did a hamstring playing cricket a week before. Ouch! Btw what headphones are you wearing Anna (like I the Airs or Areopex)
Why wouldn’t you try?.. is just right. Absolute inspiration. See you on November 3rd everybody!!!
I’m running my first 50 miler next Saturday. Keep doing what you’re doing mate!
QD: Two half Ironman’s here in the UK. Park Runs, A few 10Ks and some nice cycling sportives.
Laura Having recently started running and im totally addicted to watching your channel, your all brilliant. Having watched your Ultra marathon and your NYC marathon. You are one hell of a strong women, both mentally and physically! Your such an inspiration, open and honest and I love that in people. Im only just starting out on my running journey and very new to running, but you have definitely inspired me to keep going. I totally get the cycles of mental ups and downs even at the distances Im doing 3-5 km at the moment., But the only person that can ever say. we cant do it -is ourselves. but we can prove everyone else and yourselves that we can <3 Thank you so much for being the strong person and never change how open you are x
Just come across this video and the channel, truly inspirational stuff.
My big goal is to run a half. But I feel like I need to change my big goal after this video.
Thank you so much for this video. I have signed up to run my first full in Jan 2021, so it was great to see an honest, emotional experience.
That slow-mo of all the cups being kicked around and stomped on under his feet are one the most recognizable and memorable images you have on race day.
Anna, I’m 53 and you’ve inspired me to run my first Marathon. Not sure that there will be one this year but 2021 or 2022! Martin
I did 10K on treadmill after watching this video. I had to do it, couldn’t control. Great job Anna:)
Great stuff Seth. I’m running NY Marathon next year and I learned a lot from this video. Thanks
Just discovered this channel and watched this amazing, emotional journey. You are amazing! I would like to run NYC someday. I have run Twin Cities Marathon several times, but this would be my ultimate goal. Thanks for what you do!
new york city marathon is the best marathon, its everything best of new york, and the people of new york. congratulations Anna.
6:12 did Angela and Oscar from the office just cheer on Casey???
How would I go about running a marathon if I struggle with shin splints, hip flexor pain, and sometimes pain filled knees at only 3 miles?
after watching this and being former cross country runner, I should have zero problems beating CaseyNeistat. He definitely ain’t on my level.
Well done Anna! I’ve been doing your latest stretch routines for before and after running and stumbled upon this. I’ve run one Marathon before Brighton 2018 and your commentary from this NYC Marathon bought it all back for me. The highs, the lows, the sheer determination to carry on with your mind and body both screaming for you to stop. It’s the crowds, the cheers, the bands, the scenery, the charity causes, your fellow runners, even the weather it all keeps you going even though it’s bloody bonkers! I needed this to remind me what a special gift I’ve been given and to be running in the London Marathon which will hopefully take part on 4th October. If it goes ahead and you’re doing it I’ll look out for you and give you a cheer!
Thank you!
Richard
Seth come down to Pune and you will love Sahyadri montain ranges, SRT race which takes place in December and is UTMB qualifier, have a glimpse of it below https://youtu.be/Iq2KGKI6rzU
SRT Ultra Marathon 53Km category is a 2020 Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) qualifying race, which takes place every year in Chamonix, France.
The mountain difficulty for the 53Km category is 5 on a scale of 12, and registered ITRA runners will avail minimum of 320 Finisher’s Points to their Cotation.
That looked awful but I really want to do it because it also looked awesome! I’m going to do it Anna!
I ran via an International Tour Operator last year (and had the pleasure of meeting you at the Expo!) but this year I’ll be entering the lottery. Last year’s marathon was one of the greatest experiences of my life!
VIP runners… what I needed to see. How long did it take you to finish the race? in 3 days?
I’ve watched this video multiple times. Every time Anna cries during a run, I cry! No exceptions! love the content!
My friend wanted to participate for her milestone birthday of turning 39+1 but she lost the raffle. I’ve been secretly trying to find some way of getting a spot even during the viirus and the only option I remotely see available is raising money $$$$ just to participate. Any advice is appreciated for someone who isn’t rich or connected
I’ll run my first half marathon this year! Your video gave my so much inspiration and now I HAVE to do this
I have my first ever trail marathon on Saturday. Then, my next race I have signed up for is a half marathon on Leap Day in Richland, WA. I did that one this year, but the course was changed due to weather. I hope to better this year’s performance considerably. After that, I have signed up to do the Milwaukee Marathon in April. I have family that lives there and I have never been there to visit. So, I thought it would be fun to plan a race where I could also get back in touch with them. After that, I have scheduled a 5K in Redmond, WA in May that I am going to run with my brother. Then, in late June I have scheduled to run the Dam Marathon in Oakridge, OR.
Seth you gotta run Berlin, such a fast course you’ll definitely get the time
I made a comment from your previous race in Amsterdam how you were more towards a heel strike and in the NYC Marathon you were more of a midfoot strike based on the various clips presented. I think changing up shoes was a great choice. Excellent effort! Looking forward to your future choice of races. You sure make it fun to follow. Looking to do the Xterra Arizona trail series for 2020.
Wished i would’ve seen this during my first marathon in 2016 lol
I ran the 2019 NYC Marathon and it was easily one of the greatest experiences of my life. It’s a bloody long way to go from Melbourne, but completely worth it. My 2020 schedule is the Canberra Marathon in April, Brisbane Marathon in June, then back to the USA in October to run Chicago. That leaves me with Perth, Adelaide, and Hobart, for the Aussie capital marathons, then London, Berlin, Tokyo, and Boston for the Abbots Majors.
From more than 53,000 finishers, finishing in the first 50 group it’s more than amazing you should be proud!!!
I have started my 2020 calendar and looks good, just a bit tempted to add a first ultra race but I’m still scared, will see! Well done Seth, me and everyone that raced NY on Sunday!!!
I cant wait till I am old enough to run this it looks fun but painful.
In the lottery now, signed up on Monday. Its going to be a long month for me and I won’t lie, ill be devastated if I don’t get it. This could be my only opportunity to run it it.
Una ikurriña y una estala en el vídeo se merecen una mención especial.arriba esa gente viajera
QD: Pittsburgh Half in the spring depending on injury recovery.
Oh Anna, this is such an emotional video! Made me tearful. You are such a beautiful person inside out! and kick ass with your running! Anna:)
Anna that was amazing! I’ve been wanting to train for a marathon but felt like I couldn’t! You have inspired me to train and give it a shot! Thank you
Loved that update on the race! Working on schedule now for 2020 I have a half in January and thinking about going for my first fill in May. What’s next brother?
ok so I’m watching this vid in quarantine and everything about it seems wrong. everyone is SO close together haha idk why it makes me feel uncomfortable
started running because of how fun you made it look. its bad at first but so rewarding when you get some level of fitness
This is my first comment ever on YouTube. Anna you are so inspirational to everyone and hats off to you. I started running from the past 3 months and I lost 20kg with running+workout+diet. I really wish one day I can go for a 5k marathon. Honestly you are so amazing..lots of love from Italy. ❤️
This is actually a motivating video. I have rolled through so many boring ones. Good job
QotD: Runaway Noosa Marathon (QLD, Australia) on the 23rd May, and New York Marathon 1st November are my two marathons for next year. I’ll be trying to pick up one of the limited Time Qualifier spots with my 2:53 Marathon time from Chicago a few weeks back. It sounds like you are really nailing the whole marathon running thing. Pinching the cup, gel interval strategy, not taking the gatorades because they are too sweet. You” be getting smashing sub 2:20 before you know it!
QD. I know roughly what distances I want to do and when, but I haven’t booked the races.
As you were approaching finish line, i started to paddle my feet under the chair. lol. what an immersive experience
Big city marathon mess, looks like a hassle, I woke up at 6am in phoenix, made French Toast, ran 26 Miles, made it home before it hit 90. That’s perfect.
Great assessment! This was my 4th NYC. Yup 5th Ave. LOL Due to that it’s at mile 23 and it just keeps going and going.
My slowest split.
I’m spending my lockdown training for a half marathon this video and the Brighton marathon video is 100% making me wanna do a marathon, looks very painful but defo worth it, gonna aim to do one before I’m 25 haha
I wouldn’t call mine a 2020 racing schedule. Let’s call it a 2020 pay to run schedule. That being said, I am doing my first full marathon (Mountains to Beach) in May!
I know you posted this last year, but this was super inspirational to me! I’m running my first marathon this fall and I’m really excited!
That start upsets me. It wasn’t “almost dangerous.” It was just straight up dangerous. I’ve been “that guy” elbowing through a start line crowd, and it sucks for everyone involved. Glad you got out of there in one piece.
Tarawera NZ Feb (100k) + UltraTrail Australia May (50 or 100k) + Eiger Ultratrail or Lavaredo June/Jul (100-120k) + Chicago maybe.
The concept of allowing what I do believe are charity or corporate runners to join right at the very start in front of semi-elite’s is dangerous and really does need to stop, I can’t believe I didn’t see a major trip I was also was in Blue Corral Wave 1 and while I was happy not to push pace right at start and just dodge and weave (politely) it was absolute madness…
Brilliant video, very emotional. I have done a few half marathons and after a five year break for one reason and another I’m running again. When all this covid19 rubbish is over I would like to run a full marathon next year. New York looks amazing but London would be my dream. Great vid and channel, fully subscribed etc
That felt great? You had a medical tent visit. Can’t say great.
I have the Flynit version of the next%. I like that socklike feel.
I cant even run a sub 6 min 1 mile lol. Its insane to me how they hold a 520 pace for that long especially with hills and stuff.
Big marathon races for 2020 are Tokyo in March and New York in November and might do Cleveland in May as well! Also have 5K, 8K, 10K, 10M, and half marathon races on the calendar as well with the goal of PRing at every race distance!
Seth, I keep thinking about the start to the NYC Marathon. You have the video footage. So, can you reach out to the NYC Marathon race organization to determine what happened with regard to the wave that was funneled in front of your starting wave moments before the start of the race? I’m still dumbfounded by this. Was this some VIP wave…?
God great vid. The emotional side is new to me. But you had me tearing up at one point lol.
This looks like a great adventure, but I’ll stick to the smaller marathons. It’s so extra.
I got in through the lottery first time as an international runner.
And who’d of thought, you’d be the one to hand me my bib number at the expo! Remember? Mark from the uk
Seth, where did you get your Santo Niño? Did you get the Philippines ?!
Respect Anna, you are a true inspiration, I will definitely do a marathon one day…
Spot on about the 5th Av hill! I ran up it the day before and it felt so easy, barely noticed it. How different it was on Sun with 24 miles in my legs! Similarly on Central Park South, that hill between 6th and 7th is brutal.
I am just starting off with running, but I have a dream of completing marathons one day. I have terrible cardio and the weather in my run today was extremely hot, making it very difficult. It raises doubts as to how I’ll reach the point where I will be able to pull off a marathon. But watching this video gave me hope. Thank you for what you did and you efforts to support children with cancer. You’re giving lots of people hope. You rock!
Great race recap. I liked that this video wasn’t all cheerful and positive and it was more analytical and honest. Having run the race as well, I totally agree on your course assessments. I was told about mile 1 and Queensboro bridge but did not expect Mile 13 bridge and Central park rollers. You can totally get the OTQ time in Houston.
Final 10k on 17th November and final 5k on 13th December then plans for 2020 will begin but it’s going to be a massive 10k focus.
Do I understand that correctly? 36th to cross the finish line, out of thousands? That is incredible.
Incredible run Seth. So inspiring! Your videos help me a lot. Training this winter for (hopefully) a sub 3 marathon next year. All the best for you in 2020. I predict a 2:19
Also very happy to see you in NYC Marathon running for you mom! Also thrill to see you on the Run Experience live stream with Coach Nate as the announcer. Now I have a youtube clips that has my virtual coach and, my model runner together!
Still amazing to see that!
Btw i just uploaded a movie of my latest championship
Last couple miles on 5th ave and 6 mile loop in Central Park seems absolutely brutal, super hilly
This year the lottery was less than 3%. I got into this year’s race by getting 1 of 500 virtual slots and finishing a race in Raleigh on the same day as NYC.
I admire you for doing this for the children. I love it that you even stop to pet a few doggies. You just gained a new subscriber and Keep Running!!!!
NYC marathon is amazing. I’ve done it 4 x and every time the emotion is overwhelming, the crowds are brilliant. I DARE you not to cry when you cross the line. Even got a misty watching this and I was running at the same time (albeit slower than you ). A random act of kindness from a stranger when you’re beat invigorates you. If you ever want to run a marathon, NY has to be done. Don’t worry about being slow or self conscious, the time limit is very generous, and when you wear your medal out, New Yorkers will treat you like a hero. You’ll feel even more of a superhero than you already are
Love the way he wears an old cotton shirt with holes in it. And crushes the run
My first marathon I didn’t submit a time, but they put the D group (my group) after the elites. I was about 10 feet behind people that write books about running. It was odd to say the least.
Road marathons have such a different feel about them with the crowd and such, but starting a road marathon is a nightmare unless you are an elite. Every road marathon I have done has had much slower people jump into a faster corral. My first marathon I ran on the sidewalk for the first mile or so to get out of the chaos. I vote Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC for a possible race. They have included a 50k road version as well.
I can’t even imagine doing a full marathon, I want to one day but right now a half marathon completely destroys me…
Have you ever run NYC Marathon before? How did you get on? Or has this inspired you to take part?
Great effort for back to back marathon’s!! Looking at the crowds of all the majors I watch I think London looks to top them all for the crowd support, it’s amazing!!! Ah told you the next % was better… My race plan is set for next year is set London in April and waiting to see if I have a place for Berlin, fingers crossed…. Keep at the marathons can only see you getting faster, great stuff..
QD; Running schedule for 2020 is all set and very, very busy including two triathlons (hopefully), two marathons and a whole bunch of 5k’s,10k’s and I think one half marathon.
Thank you for sharing. You just inspired me to take the challenge. Thank you
this video is awesome to give first hand visual of the marathon for those like myself that are starting my marathon journey. thanks
A smarter Amsterdam race would have assured a sub 2:19 IMO. Still been super fun to watch this block though. Excited to follow through Argentina!
Yes mile 7 clip made it to frames 9:10-13. Well done SJD much respect!!
I have registered for my first ultramarathon. My 50th birthday is June 6th and I have registered for a 12 hour race with the goal of completing 50 miles. I have a 50k my radar for March as a part of the build up but haven’t registered for that one yet.
QD: For 2020 I’m planning to do the Malta Marathon in March and the Athens Marathon in November.
Thank you for the inspiration!
Can anyone tell me the meaning of ‘Butter my bread’ which Seth quotes every time?
QD: North Face DC 50k! Mostly because I can get to a different part of the trail without a car. Just hoping once they release the date it doesn’t conflict with a previous obligation!!
and the OSS/CIA 50Mi night run! though I’ll probably only do one of the 25 mile loops
QOD: Running two marathons in 2020! Boston in the Spring and Chicago in the Fall
Your subtitle was wrong Ultimate NYC Marathon. It was ING NYC Marathon 2015.
You are the reason why I’m running now. I just killed my first 10k and now training for a half marathon. You inspired me. Thank you
QD: Broad Street and the Portland Marathon. I’m terrified of running a marathon but your excitement in this vlog makes me want to commit to it.
I am going to do it:) September 20 2020 is the special date:) thank you so much for sharing <3
Just got to the “tell me I can’t” bit and I burst into tears. I’m training for my first half marathon at the minute, and you have just pushed me to want the full marathon after this. It looks horrible, it’s going to suck, but I want it so bad. TELL ME I CANT I DARE YOU
Outstanding job Seth! So inspiring. My first half marathon is in January 2020 then a 10k in Sedona AZ. Would love to try NY sometime.
I just finished Week 6 of the Couch to 5k and well, this looks horrible but I really want to do it!
Thanks for the inspiration Anna! You’re a wonderful human being, I wish more people were like you. I’m training for a marathon now, I needed this. Go girl!!!
QotD: yes SETH we are preparing our MILO MARATHON nxt year 2020!
Seth, it´s amazing that your thoughts about the race was the same i had, i really struggled in 5th av and missed my goal (under 2:50) by 18 seconds. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Miss your run related videos Casey… wish you and Roberto continued with your running series
Seth You finished 36 out of 15,000 that must be in the sub elite group
i want to run the NYC marathon, i’ve still not even ran a 10k yet
I turn 60 in 2020! I just started running again in the last few months… injured my knee (avulsion fracture) so, I need to take care of that. Your vlog is really inspiring me…
I’m itching to get back on the trail! For 2020… I’d like to run a 10k and a half
The Verazzano Narrows Bridge is the steepest hill on the course it rises 150 feet you just don’t realize it’s the steepest, since it’s at the start when your legs are full of energy. New York Road Runners is one of many who say Verazzano Narrows Bridge is the steepest hill on the course From a 22-times NYC Marathon Runner
2020: Boston in April, local runs through the summer, and Chicago in October. Looking at going Dopey at Disney World in early 2021.
I am currently a middle distance runner in High school. After watching your video, you have inspired me to later in my life run the New York Marathon. I don’t know when, maybe after college, but I am 100% convinced.
Love what your doing, wish you the best of luck in future races!!!
Great video! QD: I was in the midst of planning for a great year, I had signed up for a local 1/2 here in Maine to be run in March. At the end of Jan I was in a horrible snowmobile accident that ruined all of my plans for 2020. The good that came from all that was I found your videos and have been using them for inspiration and encouragement. So for 2020 I will recoup and live vicariously though YouTube. See you in 2021.
I’ve done 5 Chicago marathons. 2020 will be my first nyc marathon.
QOD: so far I’ve got the Wangaratta half marathon in February and the Copenhagen Marathon in May ( peak race ) There will probably another half in there Pre Copenhagen or at least a 10km tune up if I can find one. A couple more before the years out too. Pretty hard to find races sometimes in Victoria, Australia. Suggestions??
You guy’s do good work. Nervous for my sister in law doing the 2018 marathon. She is probably going to be among the late night finishers but I’m glad there will be people there to cheer her home.
me encanta la energia, tan positiva de la gente en esta maraton…..✌♀️… Dios los bendiga new yorkinos….
wow, even he is the last and on wheelchair, he is so inspiring and by the look at his face, he is so dedicated to finish 26.2miles…he is great as any other participants! way to go!
OMG, i cried watching this! So great and i feel you with all your comments! Great video! I’m hoping to run my first marathon this year in Las Vegas (if it doesnt get cancelled)!
I know this was 3 years ago but 6:11 people look like Oscar and Angela
I applied! Check my videos out! I hope I get accepted! I am from TEXAS!
for those don’t know, running with a camera in your hand can hurt your shoulder. Props to Casey for being able to do that.
Wow, this video was so powerful to me. I ran my first and only marathon in 8th grade, and then I got discouraged in cross country the next year and gave up entirely. This week I just matched my mile PR from middle school, and ran my first half marathon since middle school. This video cemented the fact that I need to run another marathon. And again. And again. And relive that happiness of finishing the gnarliest challenge of your life!
honestly the fact that he vlogged the entire race is pretty incredible. after mile 10 your mind starts to narrow
Very inspiring, I cried with you every time tears of joy and amazement
Our very worst practices at cross country are 9 miles and sometimes I can’t even walk after that
i’m 14 and currently on my highschools xc team, and wow this is my absolute dream to be able to have this sort of mentality, spirit and courage as I run a marathon. I’m so glad to have found this channel because you’re my biggest inspiration in being able to run a marathon. Thank you so much for brightening my day with your videos and your positive outlook on running. You’re the reason I want to train and work so hard in being able to complete a marathon when I’m older.
Seth, I agree with you. If you had applied your pace at NY in Amsterdam, you would’ve gotten under 2:19 for sure…but we live and we learn. Can’t wait to see what your next marathon will be!
My goal is to do the NYC marathon as my first marathon! either in 2020 or 2021!
If I had seen this vlog 4yrs ago i wouldn’t have made jack of it I really spent the whole vlog wondering how u managed your camera
My first NYC too in ‘19! Thank you for chronicling the race. Loved every minute of seeing the course, the crowds, runners, etc.
I think this video totally just inspired me to run the NYC Marathon this year!:)
Casey: runs a marathon I feel great!
Me: runs quarter mile GET ME TO THE ER I CAN’T BREATHE
You won’t respond, but if you do, any advice for my first half Marathon
Wow! What an experience for you! You are right to be emotional.
It would be worth it for…. the bridge….the bagel…. THE STATEN ISLAND FERRY!
If I had entrance music it would be Tina Turner “Simply the Best” (ironically).
If I ever vlogged myself marathoning the extremes would be ludicrous… I would have plenty of the anger/’i told you so”/”where’s my ice-cream”/it’s worth it/it’s not worth it…. Snippets of songs…. embarrassing remarks…
Hi to Ben! Well done with your first marathon. You look like the kind of All American young man I’d be proud to show my mother!
QD: on my way to NYC I signed up for my first 50 miler April 2020. Ran a PR In NYC 2:48:55 super pumped
right before he started I was like, alight now who’s gonna hold his camera?
Go Pennington and team! BTW, her surname matches with one of my favorite TV stars, Marla Pennington.
Did y’all see how Nev was checking my man’s out?..Nev is a joint.
Sorry I’m a bit late to the party but just donated after watching this, congratulations Anna (and Ben!) such an inspiring video and good to see it from a runners point of view
That does look bloody horrible… but I really want to do it one day!
What camera did you use? and what rig did you use to run this race in record yourself?
I’m running my first marathon in October! It’s going to be virtual, so there won’t be any cheering crowds, which is kind of disappointing but definitely for the better right now… who knows, if I don’t hate it maybe I’ll sign up for another one later on for an in-person race!
Superb Anna, very inspiring , also well done Ben…good job buddy.

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. I’ve run 5 marathons (LA x 2, Guadalajara, Miami, and Chicago). NY is on my list. Will apply for the 1st time next year.
This video is amazing! You are amazing! I would run a marathon one day!!!!!
I’m 14 I can run max distance of 10 miles, my bucket list goal is too run the race, but I hope to do it before I graduate hs
Really? You can get a finisher medal after the official cut-off time?
QD: Eiger Ultra 51K and on the way to it the Rotterdam marathon and a 43K trailrun.
Hey Anna,
Sorry for the long message but I really want to share my story because what you are doing makes me very hungry of running a 42 km.
I just turned 19 and been running half marathons since 15. Done 19 half marathons so far and started to train for a full very slowly. I ran my longest on May, 25km took me 2hours 14mins to finish it. I was so happy and wanted to run a marathon at age 25 but my dad who is a marathon runner (Boston marathon 3 times qualifier, done at least 30 marathons, his PB is 3 hours 14 mins) he said it is a motivational and inspiring goal especially at your age but don’t rush it because it will be tough since transition from 21km to 42km is brutal and you are very young, you have at least 60 70 years of running.
He also said my half marathon time is not fast enough yet (1 hour 50 mins at that time achieved in March) he added that 1:35 1:40 would be a better time. He is right because 1 week after my longest distance my left Achilles tendon start to have inflammation.
I still run with the inflammation but run 3 times a week instead of 5 6 times a week. I got better so quickly and went back to my normal weekly mileage. Gosh, training for a marathon is such tough work!!
So, in early July, I ran half marathon on a flat road and got a 4 mins PB, 1 hour 46 mins 12 seconds! I was so shocked and happy that I got another PB just 4 months later.
Now, I keep training and making that 21 km time consistent and faster, so that the process of running a marathon would be easier:) I really cant wait to run one at 25 and fast enough to qualify for Boston Marathon at 30 (maybe 35 since 3 hours 30 mins is a very tough time to achieve)
Please keep upload videos like this one…makes me hungry to keep training and go for 42km!!!
Seth, in 2020 you should run The Chicago Marathon with the other running bloggers, Kofuzi and I believe Coach Nate from The Run Experience wants to run Chicago next year. It would be great to see all of you running in one marathon.
S.B.W.H.&♡E.O.!
i am waTching this video in 2o19 because iM binge waTching Casey nEisTat rn
Loved this video Anna!! And, I loved your authenticity! Very inspirational and I would love to run a marathon in New York or another large venue such as that. I have run a half marathon in Memphis and Nashville (St. Jude), and would like to go to the next level…like you. Thank you for your courage and teaching spirit.
My first race in 2020 will be on 19th Jan 2020 Chombeung marathon (35th edition), very first marathon in Thailand (a classic), follow by Khonkaen International marathon (my home town) on the 26th, a week later. I wasn’t expecting to get in via lotto in the first event so I applied for my home town race, which I’ve run many times just in case, so now I have back to back 26 miles races one week apart.
I ran NYC two years ago. The hardest part for me was Central Park. I got emotional there as well. Thanks for sharing this experience with us. You rock! Wonderful Cause as well!
One of the best vlog I’ve seen. Made me emotional too. I subscribed.
With some more race experience, pace experience, I’m convinced you will get 2.19.
You covered everything that I was hoping you would talk about. Thanks for another inspired trip.
Marilyn found your channel today, if you can run a half, you can go all the way! I feel the same way about bicycle commuting as you do running. Hope your Dad is doing well, surely he’s proud of you
QD: Allready signed up for the Matterhorn Ultraks Skyrace (49k) in august 2020 (zermatt, switzerland)
