I laughed my head off with the long sleeved vs short sleeves + gloves one! The only difference is: I live in southern New Zealand and am rather acclimatised to the cold so I only make that decision when it is sub-zero!

The fact that this race was contested on an INDOOR TRACK makes the 6 Olympic qualifying times all the more impressive.

I don’t go running in bad weather anymore. I got surprised by lightning storms a couple times and had two really, really close calls. A bit of rain I don’t mind, but I religiously check the weather forecast now and I turn back when I don’t trust the clouds.
Edit: I do love winter runs in the snow though.:)
Hey Nick, how do you know what your ideal racing weight is? I’m around 5’7”, 123 pounds and 4% body fat. Would it be healthy for me to lose weight, or am I already at my ideal racing weight?
Those tan line problems are all too real. I’ve had that white band around my wrist for a solid 6 years, along with some sick lines from my shorts and singlets from this summer.

I went through a phase where I obsessively looked for half marathons across the US and made fake training plans for myself to do races in multiple states and still have time to train in between.
When you get into running, it is like, “…….and it is the perhaps the cheapest way of staying fit, you just need to run!”. And within a year, after having invested in a pair of new snickers, a top of the range GPS tracker, gels, protein bars, trendy outfits, and countless weekly hours, your wife is like “…….should have stayed with golf!”

Guilty!.. on points 3, 4, 6, 7 and 9. 3) Co-worker told me he was taking up running. I got so excited and talked so much I think I now put him off running. (I did mention your channel too). 4) Yes. Tan lines on arms and head. 6) I’m always experimenting with my running playlist. Yesterday I found a tune that was great for running up a hill. It timed perfectly when I started running uphill! 7) Yes. I plan my week for running. 9) The pandemic has had me change from running on a treadmill to running on my neighbourhood streets. Oh course, I HAD to have the right gear. Bought a special running hat and 2 new tops and running shorts.
I become a mathematician whilst running converting km to miles and giving myself a projection of what time I finish. It’s a great distraction from the running itself.

When you keep showing up late to dates because you had to get a run in first
You don’t even look big. In my opinion you look really fit! But I get it, when you’re lighter you feel faster. I have another tip, eat a small bowl of salad before lunch or dinner with fat free/low calorie dressing. This will help you fill up on veggies and make you eat less overall because of the fiber and water content in the veggies. Also, don’t deprive yourself too much of the food you love because you’ll probably end up binging later on and ruining your whole diet. So if you slip up and eat a cookie or two, don’t freak out and just eat healthy the rest of the day.
When you are out in the car or a walk and see someone running, you are immediately envious of them, giving them a Whoop/cheer as they go!

A tip for the long term: eat slowly, drink smoothies slowly. When you drink fast you get a blood sugar spike which is deposited as fat.
When my watch or headphones are out of battery I’ll wait a little bit to make sure they are charged
When I want to lose 10 pounds of ugly fat, I just cut off my head.

Love your tips. As someone who has lost 175 pounds (350 to 175lbs), your tips are spot on. I would add a seventh tip, occasionally do a longish run in a fasted state. Be sure to drink plenty of water or Nunn (probably carry the drink w/ you)

Hi Nick so a lot of coaches have been speaking against target weight many times in what i’ve seen clear evidence of this is Meb Keflezighi who got too lean for the US Olympic marathon trials and he cracked his pelvis in the race and had to crawl around on the ground because he couldn’t stand for months after that. I don’t believe in target weight and I instead believe in a weight at which you can eat well, feel good and STILL hit your target paces I would traditionally cut down to 47 kgs for an important race but now I just eat well and train hard and I’m able to hit the same or even better paces at 51 to 52 kgs. Also can you make a video on balancing serious training with school work.

1. Sometimes! Only when out with family though.
2. Haven’t really taken up gels for running (yet). For me, I don’t feel they’re necessary for anything under a half-marathon.
3. Sort of! I don’t go to that extent, but I love helping out friends who are interested!
4. No tan lines! I do the vast majority of my runs in the evening.
5. If it’s 7°C or above, I consider t-shirts safe. Under that I go with long-sleeves.

I, as a 16 year old, am really confident right now and feel good because my 800m time is faster than these kids’ times. Yet i’m still insanely slow compared to everybody else my age that runs track. I run a 2:43 800m
U ran 11.71 in your last race I’d say running sub 11.5 would be crazy good but sub 11 from one race to another seems a lil unlikely to happen. You can do it tho in 1-3 years with proper training( just my opinion) wish u good luck keep up te good work

I identified straight away! I did my long run yesterday and came to a junction, my route went right but I was looking at the road signs and working out the logistics of visiting the next village. Also, it was very nice to see that you were in Shropshire, my favourite place to visit.
I’ve lost 5kg since april counting my calories/macros. In order to lose weight you need to be in a caloric defict, counting macros enables me to eat fries/chips/burger/sweets and even alcohol from time to time during my diet. But adherence and sticking to your diet is most important.
Definitely the running tan. Garmin tan, 3/4 capri tan, shorts tan, tshirt tan, vest tan. Basically all different shades of a tan like a paint chart
Ok, I do see roads signs indicating the number of miles to wherever, and thinking “yes, I could run that!” At a certain point in the video, I found myself taking my GPS watch off to inspect the pronounced tan line underneath. I also wear my watch constantly, even to bed. This video really hits close to home! I “leveled-up” on the running wanker scale just by watching this and I’m really glad to know there are many brothers and sisters out there! Cheers Well done!

You guys really get me. Guilty on literally all counts. My coworkers would probably murder me if they could get away with it. Also when being overtaken by a young fit runner who expels a massive snot rocket the runners first says “low sevens, nice” and then “great rocket.” Only a runner does that. Also I wear my Garmin tattoo with absolute pride.

When I was 7 years old I could run like 15 mph
Now I’m 11 years old and I can run like 20 mph especially when I’m overweight
And I can tell at that speed with being 48 kg; being fit and strong my speed would go higher a third!

So those 8 y/o kids are running 800 m faster than me (14 y/o) and I was 3rd in my grade!

anyone feel sleepy during the early part of your run? I try to relax as much as possible but I end up getting drowsy during the run. Could it be due to dehydration? I run after waking up without drinking any water since I only run 1.6 miles and 2.4 miles for my long run. I’m pretty new to running.

Honest question: Does the USA allow times for 5,000m races that are run on Indoor, undersized, banked tracks to qualify for Olympic Games Standards? Most countries do not. Olympic standards normally relate to flat, 400m UNBANKED tracks. Plus, due to their size, they are normally outdoors.
That’s why there is a complete, seperate list of INDOOR records and OUTDOOR records. (raced under different conditions)
