Top Ten Ways To Avoid A Sore Ass When Cycling On Your Road Bike

The simple truth is: Yeast thrives in moist environments, and if you’re wearing nylon or other synthetic fabrics that hold moisture close to your skin, you’re putting your nether region at risk by hanging out in drenched cycling shorts or workout pants. You could end up with a raging yeast infection, if not inside the vagina then on the sensitive vulva.List of Reasons You Should Choose Specialized Cycling Clothing. Monday April 29, 2019, POSTED BY bm_admin Most of the activities require their specialized clothing. Be it a high intensity workout, cardio or even aerobics, the correct form of clothing can really help you attain the benefits of your workout routine.
While you may lean into a fully padded cycling short for comfort during outdoor miles, your personal preference might change for studio classes. So what method do you guys use for changing out of your sweaty bike clothes after a ride? I am so jealous of men in this area since they can just whip off their sweaty jersey and put on a dry shirt just like that. I am always left searching for a bathroom or at least a port-a-potty to change in.
What You Should and Shouldn’t Wear to a Spin Class One gentleman once wore jeans to class—he didn’t have a change of clothing. It.5. Cycling shoes. Bike specific shoes will probably be one of the last investments you make when it comes to what to wear for spinning. Since you can only wear cycling shoes for one purpose – biking! – you’ll probably want to make sure you’re committed to taking a series of spinning classes before you decide to invest in bike shoes.
A Spin class, of course. Most studios offer a variety off class options—some as short as 20 minutes—so you’re always able to fit a workout into your busy schedule. For more, check out: https.Depends on whether you want respect at the LBS or every other place you go into.
I’m cut-offs, T-shirts, and tennies. I like going past the dudes that spent more on their clothes than I spent on my bike. Sure, I look like a construction worker that’s lost his driver’s license but I don’t wear 420/tie-dyed either.
Misdirection and a contrarian. This involves eating. Cycling allows you to eat as much as you like completely guilt free, because you earned every calorie.
Fitness experts say you should. It’s nothing to be overly concerned about though — just take more time warming up. If you’re experienced on the bike, your body should tell you when it’s ready to sprint or climb. No. 3: Take Longer to Recover.
You may have needed little recovery time after a ride at 25. But over 40 you may need to recharge after a long or hard ride.Go for a moisture-wicking fabric to keep that sweat under control — cycling classes can be intense workouts, so the more you can do to eliminate things like uncomfortable clothes, or clothes.
More intense than riding a stationary bike, most indoor cycling classes last for 30to 75-minute sessions. The intensity will vary throughout the class thanks to different body positions (i.e.Look, I love cycling to work, I really do, and have been doing it for years and years, year round, all weather, any city, but there are definitely reasons why I, you know, sometimes kind of hate.Everybody’s heard it said that recovery is as important as training — Peter Stuart looks at what you could be doing to optimise the adaptation process while you’re off the bike Cycling.
The change of atmosphere was enlightening after being solo for so long—the loud, spirited music, exercising in a group—and because it was such a.

I find bibs to be fine, but not a huge improvement over good-fitting shorts. I mostly needed to comment because the expression on Manon’s face on the “cover” image is CLASSIC! She might have well said “That’s a silly question!”

I stumbled upon your channel recently and I have been binge watching all your videos!!!!
As a newbie triathlete this was immensely helpful!!!!!!
Keep up the great work GTN ♥️♥️♥️
OK for all those who want to wear underpants under your knicks; these have been designed specifically to not need anything else. So go commando, it doesnt mean you’re a pervert. If you do, well your choice but it definitely doesnt look cool and must just add an unnecessary complication every time you want to have a nature break on your long 400mile rides
I mostly ride solo but I find that riding with others can help you push yourself more. If you want to push yourself to the limit then ride with others who are fitter than you. riding with 2 friends helped me do a bit over 100 miles while a was ready to give up after about 70. Need to add though that if I was riding solo I would’ve been riding at a lower pace so if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been bonking after 70 miles in the first place:D
I’m offended that they used ‘ass’ in the title and not ‘butt’ or ‘arse’… or bottom, patootie, tukhus, gluteus maximus, tush, booty, tail, rear, posterior, buttocks, hind-quarters, derrière, rump, caboose, hams, fanny, dumper, culo-cakes, keister, trunk, sit-upon, wazoo, fart-box, juicy-double, salt-shaker, or your bubbles… money-maker? Ass was the right choice… I get it now.
I’d hate to rip my cycle shorts whilst having no undies on…
I just approach it like a manual shift car. Start easy, First gear, and as you build speed up, shift up through the gears, trying to maintain the same cadence as in First to Last.
Investing in some high quality bib shorts is a must! As others have. Being comfortable is essential to enjoying a ride.
There is one solution:Purchase a bike which you can ride in upright position and not in forward position. Obviously you can’t do that on a racing bike or road bike.
This is probably the best reason why I stopped biking. Sore bums! My goodness.. In this day and age, can’t manufacturers even design comfortable bike seats???
If bunch of ppl you don’t know draft behind you count as a group ride?
What do you guys think about listening to music when riding solo?
When you do solo ride you can do it when you self want and in your own pace.
I got a new bike and after 2 rides, my butt hurts a lot. Even when I use the bathroom .
☹️
Solo rides are great but I enjoy waving to other cyclists en route. It helps you feel connected to the larger cycling community even when you’re riding by yourself.
Men HATE being told how mechanical things work by a woman & one with a voice that is asking to be strangled:)
Lovey person but the voice is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears im not exactly sure why.
I’ve riding alone Road, MTB and Gravel bikes for over 20 years, nothing new to me. Doing so, I start when I want, I rest when l want, I finish when l want. Riding solo will never disappoint me or anyone else. It’s peaceful and l love it.
I ride my bike for leisure but my butt pain takes the fun out if it
I use the 1.7+ pound (800+ gram) 2″ travel chinese NCX shock seatpost. It’s absolutely wonderful.
even at 120 PSI, I often find myself wondering if I have a flat tire.
Great video thanks GCN! One additional difference when riding solo you are a lot less visible to drivers, so be sure to have a retina-searing tail-light running at all times…
I ride solo most of the time. The tips are good. I would add another. Emergency contact and medical info should be carried as well. Particularly if you are in a situation where you are unable to communicate to first responders. I use https://www.myroadid.com/ It can provide a link to all your medical and contact info.
At the start of lockdown and my club had to stop club rides I enjoyed it as found lots of random routes, but now IV lost my mojo as I’m so board going out on my own now I miss my club and group rides.
How ride solo. What do you think I’ve been doing these past four months?
Hi! Thanks for this. I like those aerobars as they’re raised off the handlebar. What make and model are they?

100 Sit-ups

How to me one punch man step one be bald step 2 be bald step 3 be bald
learnt the hard way, cycled 22 miles in the rain, now got two rubbing rashes:-(
Why are there not saddles build with the chamois built in? It feels kind of backwards to build the chamois into the shorts instead of just making a saddle with some padding on it.
Bit sad that millions of riders.. but..
N O O N E E V E R
has invented or come up with a solution that works.
Oooohhhhh, please, I
needwant another bike….just seeing those that you are using here makes me drool…..Thanks for the tips, I tend to ride solo a lot more than in groups and basically try to follow all the suggestions.
I have short, medium and long solo rides to suit weather windows.
I think it was more about setting a mindset of becoming hero
In my opinion, one of the most important things being physically ready is not enough you have to be mentally ready especially when its along ride or its windy day you have to keep motivating yourself and control your thoughts
It took me eight saddles to get it right on a standard diamond frame bike. Now I ride a two-wheel Cruzbike V20 and nothing ever hurts regardless of distance. Downside is I can ride near a peloton of diamond frame cyclists but never with them because the recumbent has essentially no bad air to draft off of and the handling properties of the two frames are different. The recumbent is fast as hell if you are watt challenged like me.
10% him doing it
90% him changing one punch man workout to his workout
I like riding solo and enjoy the view and not have to stare at some bottoms for 2 or 3 hours:)
Could you tell me the brand of that pull up rack? I’m trying to find something like that to workout from home. Thanks!
Just ride standing up the whole time then u won’t need any bib shorts
Her accent is the most pleasant sound ever. I could listen to her talk for hours!
I’ve been Road cycling my entire life and the truth is if you’re doing 3 hours or less a day you don’t need bib shorts or any kind of padding. When you have the correct saddle at the correct angle and height you can go back to the good old days in the 1970s and 80s and throw on a pair of khakis or blue jeans and go for a ride in perfect comfort. Now this only goes for healthy men because that’s what I am and my experience outside of that is zero. I ride an average of 2 to 3 hours a day 7 days a week and have absolutely no chafing or discomfort. Most of the information you hear from gcn and other sales Associated companies about riding gear it’s just a sales pitch. You’ll read a lot of comments on here about how bib shorts and padding of other kinds made cycling so much more comfortable but these are people who never bought the correct saddle and never properly fit their bike and or they didn’t ride for long enough to build up a good tolerance so that they would be comfortable every time they get on their bike. Use common sense and ask yourself how people Road on bicycles for hundreds of miles for many many many many years without padding and had no real problems unless they were uneducated about Saddles and bike setup. If I’m going to ride the Giro d’Italia of course I would probably enjoy some padding now that the option is available but for everyday use it’s ridiculous as is Lycra and all the other ridiculous things bicycle companies want to sell you. These companies make way more money on the “stuff you need” than they do on bicycles. Good luck consumers
I hate these videos because of the stupid fact that they explain while riding bicycles as if thats helpful
My touche is still waiting to get used, but to be honest I don’t ride alot but I will get the hang of it. And thanks for all your videos there are so much fun as well as practical……you guys rock
“Women’s cycling was not in the Olympics till 1984”. Quick trivia: First road gold medal in the women’s Road Race went to… Taylor Phinney’s mom.
whaaaaaaat….lmao…how to ride it solo….get off yer arse, get on your bike….and ride….fixed a 7 min video down to 20 seconds…..easy….just about every ride i do is solo, cos i hate the whole club look at my bike shades kit scene…..and i hate it when people want to stop all the bloody time….solo…yep, better than group…..
Hello GCN “PLEASE NOTICE”
I just Wanna Share This Time Trial Mountainbike here in the Philippines
What are Your Thoughts?
https://youtu.be/wQHB5f9flMM
Years ago I got to the conclusion that the bib shorts are the only essential piece of kit for me. Everything else is optional: a helmet (I know, I know…), glasses, shoes, clipless pedals, gloves, GPS, not to mention cycling shirts etc etc, but I can’t do a ride longer then an hour and feel ok without the shorts. With straps of course.
Chamois thickness varies so much that every time I switch shorts it feels like a different saddle position.
Do you prefer riding solo or with a group? Let us know in the comments section below!
Always always pack a battery pack as well as the USB cable worst thing is when you miles from home and your phone dies! Or your lights☝
Been riding the same pair of JL rowing trou since 2005. Got some bib tights last winter and realized how much easier life can be.
Loved the video. I’ve had much better wear from my bike since following your channel. My hill climbing has improved too. Going to take some do these tips and put them into practice.
It’s hard to find someone who is around your age and in your ability time, distance & fitness. I’ll go solo every time.
I’m getting back into cycling after 30 years, do I really need to dress like that?
I did a improvised version my self after looking at your cushion idea lol I used a new car was sponge down my cycling shorts wow just made life much easier
I like very much having a meaningful discussion with a refined, intelligent, discerning and wise person while riding.
That’s why I ride solo 100%.
Can someone explain why the padding goes on the butt and not the saddle? Always confused me.
smaller gear or larger gear to climb a hill? still now clear. What about slowing down?
I usually ride naked to avoid the embarrassment of wearing Lycra
“You don’t need to wear underwear underneath your cycling shorts.”
That is not true.
You MUST NOT wear underwear underneath your cycling shorts.
Underwear have seams that create pressure points. Cycling shorts are designed to avoid pressure points.
Cycling shorts also have multiple layers in the crotch that provide all the modesty insurance you need.
Finally, hygiene, you sweat when you ride, so cycling shorts must be washed after every ride. And we all hope that you keep yourself clean down there. So cycling shorts act as outerwear shorts, and underwear, in one garment.
I’m fairly new and have only riden solo I love to be free and on my own. To me, riding is like a meditation. I couldn’t get same benefit with a group, would be distracting.
First time casual cyclist.Bought my first bike this week to exercise and try lose weight.Im a size 20 in jeans.Any recommendations for plus size shorts stockists?
what an intro! and what a channel! so pleased with these videos!
I ride solo a lot as I find it extremely therapeutic, it gives me time to focus.
Surprised you guys didn’t mention “get your ass off the seat.”
IMHO, the perfect presenter to suggest commando attire! It’s a bit weird, but she does look exactly like my second wife! Astudio’r Gymraeg RN….
I ride almost exclusively solo. I like the meditation. I like to work on my stats, pace and breathing without talking etc. I like the freedom to make changes, go further if I’m feeling particularly good that day. I did ride with someone once and they were quite a bit slower than me and it was work to ride that slowly. Of course, I could find someone more my speed and I do notice them on STRAVA after I get home and check the flybys but haven’t made the connections for the time being, COVID and all. I have to say that I also quite enjoy the struggle of championing a hard ride alone, somewhat like solo sailing across the sea or something. The loneliness of it adds to the sense of accomplishment and grit.
I’ve worn ‘bib’ shorts and ‘non bib’ shorts. On longer rides, the shoulder straps tend to dig into my shoulders and cause an increase in shoulder pain. For me anyway, ‘non bib’ cycling shorts are my preference.
switched from shorts to bibs probably 15 years ago? I’d never go back. SO much more comfortable.
Always looking for Nirvana sweet spot which seems to vary depending on fatigue.
You forgot to have full course meals everyday and turn of ur ac during summer and turn of ur heater during winter
YES, I prefer the bib shorts over the traditional style shorts.
I never started cycling to ride with others. For me it’s about the feeling I get being on a bicycle. I’m happy to share that time if that works from time to time. But happier still when I get to explore on my own too.
I have friends who go cycle touring for a week at a time. I love them as people. But the idea of a week of endless silly chat on bicycles sounds aweful to me
anyone know what video that prevents stuff like this WHILE your riding your bike?
Take money with you. Food stop, emergency, etc… Always smart to have a few dollars with you.
That’s so fake. everyone would stop and play the hero if she’s on the side of the road
Are you guilty of some of these out on your rides? Let us know!
I like going out with the group Sunday mornings, for a bit of competition when riding.
Another important tip: Wash them after EVERY RIDE! This may mean they don’t last as long, but ya gotta. Ya just gotta.
And banana is enough for break fast
With no air conditioner and heater for winter and summer
O baguio e português quando Clica e inglês q poha e essa marreco
I always ride alone. I get to ride at my own speed. I’m older, so I don’t do the ride and yapping very well, not well at all. I’m breathing pretty hard, without talking. But I only go out for 1.5 hours.
I can cycle all day in swimming shorts and not get a sore arse. Fix up slobs
I always have a friend/family member who is ‘on call’ for me… someone I check in with during the ride so they know where I am and when to expect me finishing. Also, for some I can share my location from my phone so they can always keep track of me!
I pretty much ride solo. I’m looking up the helmet! Great video, cheers from the States
I love riding solo. Just me and my thoughts. And the road. And the sky. And the sun. And my legs coping with it.
one of my favorite cycling YouTube channels and also listed in Wired’s, “13 YouTube Channels We Geek Out Over in Quarantine”; keep up the good work producing good content!
When the music and video resolution changed at 4:25, I thought it was a commercial and I started looking for the “skip” button. (Sorry Dan.)
If you’re wondering whether or not it works here’s your answer
Of course not like hell no human can one punch everything and jump from moon to earth
This sounds like a list of mistakes I made on my first long solo ride. I didn’t take any food or spares, didn’t plan that well, bonked and got lost all in one day.
There is this great stuff sold at CVS and Walgreens called, “Bag Balm” (sold in a green, square tin can) that I use after a very long ride on the “tender” areas. I keep it in the fridge so after a hot shower the balm goes on the sit spots. It really helps with any bruising…at least for the lady cyclist here. Um…are there any lady cyclist here…ever? Besides me?
this channel is awesome, binge watched a buncha episodes last night
I got a couple of pairs of FDX brand shorts and they seem to be fine.
I wish GCN would address such issues as sustainable manufacturing as well as recycling of cycling clothing. Are any manufacturers more climate-conscious? Ethical labour practices would also be a good topic. Do any manufacturers assure us that their workers are treated fairly?
Would a pair stop my padding slipping forward or am I doing something wrong?
Does a $250 pair of bibs last longer and are they 10X better than a $25 set? Is there a sweet spot in price, comfort, & durability?
I choose to ride solo on the road bike and groups out on the mtb.
My father in law used to race bicycles, and back then he said they didn’t wear anything under them shorts, so it was easy to pee when riding. I thought it was crazy, but then GCN made this video about not wearing undies, I dunno but I think they have a point, somewhere…
Invest in shorts only if you can short them, because in forseable future there is no shortage of shorts.
Dude i just wanna pop wheelies but this is happening and blisters
Maybe a silly question, but why not just make saddles more comfortable? Then we wouldn’t need padded shorts. What am I missing? (I started cycling recently and already bought some bib shorts because it started to be really uncomfortable without them.)
My shifter on the left has three options:High, Medium, Low and my shifter on the right has six options:1,2,3,4,5 and 6. I still haven’t figured out how to use these efficiently:/
I love this video. Especially when he had his drawers to the ground woo whoo. I’m going to have to watch that again!
I just got a sore butt after riding my new bike for the first time I was so excited to go out today but when I sat on my bike It didn’t feel good
Been riding cheap BTWIN bibless shorts for 3 years now and no discomfort. Spent long days in the saddle with no issues and no chamis cream either. Down to personal preference really and what your comfort level is like!
This really helped me understand gear shifting. I’m a 21 year old just starting his to learn to ride. Thank you!
please dont wear bibs! Bibs are ghey. Drivers already hate us (cyclist) enough already…Dont give them a reason to fuck w/ us any more than they already do…
You forget that he never used ac nor fan during his training
This is great. I am just getting into this sport and I am not shifting smoothly.
I used two pair of shorts, and it worked nicely. Especially when my shorts started to wear down
So you start off in 1 gear. Then you go from 1 to 8. Then you go in 2 gear & then go back to 1 to 8. Oh & your saying to avoid using 1&8 because of wear & tear. It’s very complicated isn’t it. Don’t they do automatics
Don’t understand what they were talking about, don’t know what candence is.
Como cuando un idiota no entiende el anime y piensa que lo que hizo fuerte a Saitama fueron la 100 sentadillas y lagartijas….jajaja todo pendejo el youtuber
U also has to have the air conditionong off amd eat a daily banana
Just started cycling relevant piece for me,really enjoying good comfortable trips,it’s cool
It’s not my ass that hurts, it’s the area between my balls and ass. Is it called the perenium ( something like that) Going to try a saddle with a cut out or the bike may have to go back. Any ideas guys?
So you can safely dribble when squirting your energy gel into your mouth?
So I got myself a new bike 2 days ago and I haven’t ridden since I was a kid. You mention changing through the gears gradually but going from 6-7 requires changing the front and cassette gears and from the furthest away cogs. (If that makes sense?!) and then you mention this is not recommended.
This helped me out a lot plus I just got L.E.D.s for my bike
But i wear mask all the time when we ride to towns to countryside
Could you share your thoughts on switching a bike to 1 by gearing for triathlon? Good, bad, bit of both?
Triathletes, please be careful riding near each other, and especially careful riding round corners.
Great video! Excuse my ignorance, but if I’m uncomfortable wearing cycling shorts in public, can I wear pants over them? Or is there a cycling underpants that would be better? And what type of shorts work?
This would be for long distance bicycle touring.
The first few seconds of this video had me dying
Well Saitama has got a power out of all human capacity. Maybe that exercieses are more effective for him.
I love riding solo. I go at my own pace, stop for a photo. Plus I love playing tourist in my own city.
I had to stop biking for 2 days because I just couldn’t leave
GCN is so heavily sponsored. The Wahoo Roam Elemnt is very costly. They are great but Lenzyne makes a very capable computer for about half the price…..also Strava Premium working from your smart phone will have a text beacon that your loved ones can track you for about 60.00 a year.. Also I’m afraid they are (GCN) is jumping the Shark a bit… I can’t understand the relevance of for a video on “learning how to ride solo” for I think we all start as solo riders first before joining groups. I never have heard of someone buying into cycling then jumping immediately into group rides. I feel it more the other way around.
Oh my aching ass after watching your video I can laugh at myself at least the burning pain in my ass is killing me from writing my NordicTrack them but I got to get over it but you guys are a hoot
that moment all my rides are alone because I don’t have friends
For those pull exorcise. I dont have any equipement or bars near me. Suggestions?
I don’t have friends who cycle or group rides since I live on the countryside.. I need a video on how to cycle together
Mark, Heather, no need to own two full on TT bikes, you should stick with the P5X’s, and I’d be happy too look after one of these speedmax’s for you. So jealous of you on these great bikes. Awesome video too, thanks guys
It’s less fun riding in a group when everyone is chatting in a foreign language and you don’t understand their instructions, especially if they spontaneously decide to do something different, e.g. a longer ride than initially planned. It’s much safer planning your own routes, if you live in a foreign country.
A month ago or so I rode for 10 hours took bibs off they were basically glued to my gooch felt like I was peeling tape off and yes I did use cream.
Joining a local Club has a lot of advantages an important one being you can usually get Kitt at massive reduced prices because of sponsoring. Sometimes even at half what it would cost in the shop!
I love bib shorts with a front zip panel (Rapha has a great pair for women). Always confused where to put thin straps: between, on, or around my chest?
Thanks, Manon for another lovely video. I’ve been riding bicycles all my life, but I don’t consider myself a cyclist. Perhaps for that reason I cannot understand why they don’t just add a bit more padding in the seats and eliminate it in the shorts. Wearing cycling shorts also makes me feel as if I lost control of my bowels which makes me feel so uncomfortable and therefore not wearing underwear is anathema to me. Maybe one of these days I’ll evolve.
It is encouraging to see women giving advice for cycling. I am a most of the time I see guys giving cycling advice.
Nice, now u just gotta do all that for the next 3 years good luck:)
Hey Guys, we hope you like the video. As you probably know we released a NEW version of our Complete Calisthenics Program. Just visit: calimove.com and check all the updates.
I thought investment is something that increases in value over time…. Just kidding…. we are lucky that manufacturers today truly get “behind” the consumer, making for all shapes and sizes, and that truly show that all butts matter. As for me, I really appreciate some cushion especially when there is nothing left in the “tank”. #@$???!
You missed the bananas daily.
No ac/heater
and 3 years progress.
i learned riding a bike 2 days ago and now it hurts like hell
I love the channel and I like the video. But the girl’s voice sounds so annoying!
Why need pillows, there are saddle cover with pad that you can buy
Went on my first group ride last week and had my first crash fuck that riding solo from now on
Bib shorts changed my life haha….when I got back into cycling a couple of years ago I got a pair of non-bib shorts because that’s all there was back in the day and I would have some issues breathing because of the waist elastic no more!
Quality video as ever…but I am bemused to think that anyone would go out on a ride without a phone, any money, any spares, or any idea where they are going!
Probably need to remind some people to take the front door key?
Oh i did not wear those on my first time and i suffered biking 130km away and ending going home on a bus
Either. Nice to have quiet or company. Set a goal and go ride.
I think one needs several pairs. I have 4 and it’s too little. 7 or more would be ideal. I wear underwear. I honestly don’t care what the cycling code is. It’s a sports with very strange ‘rules’ that I don’t respect at all.
You have to buy the seat. I found a seat my butt bone fits in and is cushion and the seat is made under it like a sattle for butt bones. Idk where the seat came from. It’s not expensive I’ve seen it on wish site though. Becouse it was the same as mine.but it didn’t come from wish I don’t think. I know ride more. And rather and I’m not even butt hurt.
Me: He looks like hes saitama with a beard and a moustache
Also me: did this guy go bald for This video or is he just bald
Can u make a video on fueling during the race with some DIY tips….what are allowed during the race and what not. Thanks.
I’m really sorry to say but the tattoo on his back write with Korean is wrong:( It’s 태권도 not 태숸도
Why the emphasis on bib shorts? They’re totally unnecessary for most riders, they cost more, and are less convenient. My first bike shorts were made of wool and had a real leather chamois, so I’ve had some experience. I recommend cyclists get the absolute best shorts (not bibs) they can to start. Then try bibs, too. I have both and much prefer regular bike shorts.
why do we forget about the weather and food conditions he put on him self
You’re wrong, he training for gain strength no for a perfect body.
I think Manon should be introducing the Cycling Shorts segment on the GCN Show. I lost count of how many times she said “cycling shorts”
You and saitama look the same but the difference is the mustache or we call it beard?
My solution to the problem as a senior rider was to change to a Suspension Seat Post!! On my new Cube Hybrid. Worked wonders.
Its about power not the display. People think bigger and harder the muscle the powerful you are but that’s not the case.
I have seen a skinny people beat those big gym bodies.
Power comes from endurance.
IMHO bib shorts with straps are so much more comfortable than those without straps despite the inconvenience of “Comfort breaks”.
so…basically…it is unisex….just whatever makes you feel comfortable…they all look same anyway….and no undies….excellent!!!
Gente fiz o isso me deixou realmente careca treinei pensei que meu coração ia sair pela minha boca e meu cabelo começou a cair
You forgot you need to eat banana every day and sleeps at a hot room
I ride solo when I’m burning calories and then ride w my two sons (11 and 13) as a group when I’m doing a recovery ride.
Riding both ways with a good balance looks just right for me!
Mountain bike have gone to 1x, I’ve changed my road to that too, unless you need a double why have one.
When I was a kid I brought a pair of PDM bib shorts. I crashed the first ride out. No more PDM bib shorts. Is it me, or does anyone else hate grippers?
I think that number 1 should be put a saddle on that seat post!..
Hi, I have a 2 x 8 set up. Is it okay if I use the middle 2 cogs at the back with either the 2 chain rings at the front? Is that still cross chaining?
Yeah I’ve been riding for a quite a while now and probably should of seen this at the start
@Manon: did you notice that your jersey is flapping around by your neck and / or shoulders on most footage?
The only issue I have with lycra be that shorts or leggings is that they leave nothing to the imagination and have more or less everything on show… So I have to wear loser fitting shorts over my lycra gear.
I’ve recently bought a fairly standard trek commuter bike second hand to use at uni and for fitness, and since coming across gcn I’ve learnt so much! Genuinely considering getting myself a road bike at some point in the far future lol. The community here is brilliant:)
IF you are male: How to ride your NICE bike solo in many areas today urban or rural-be ARMED in some way to keep from being attacked and bike and kit stolen….have a go pro in perm attachment somewhere and ON, too. Tell people your exact route and stick to it so they will know if you aren’t back in reasonable time and or use STRAVA to show them in real time, too. IF you are female-think twice about this, today.
I find I only really need bib shorts for rides over 100km. Otherwise, I prefer some lightweight shorts/underwear that dry as quick as possible. I don’t like how much moisture the chamois holds and find that is the biggest contributor to saddle sores for shorter rides.
Always ready ready for solo ride, bring Spare tube, mini pump, multi tool, even “missing link” if my chain break
Mine is, just did 20 miles on Saturday, and unsay we did 9.6
1:08 you’ve got to give some quality leather saddles a try, manon! at least long enough to break them in
How to ride your bike solo: get on your bike and start pedaling…
hey! I do think Dan was a very respectable pro cyclist, don’t put him down like that haha
Total garbage!
It should be obvious that no one should be riding on something
resembling 10 inches of rounded off 2 x 4 up on edge. Mile after mile, ruts
after potholes, after stumps, after stones, after cracks, after whatever.
Sensitive urological and neurological vessels (plus the tailbone) are damaged
by the unhealthy pressure points of traditional single platform bicycle seats,
and modified traditional single platform bicycle seats.
Dr. Steven Schrader with the National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health (NIOSH): “When you sit on a bike the pressure on the perineum
increases sevenfold. Riders using a classic saddle place 1/4 of their body
weight on the perineum. The amount of oxygen reaching the *** typically falls
70% to 80% in 3 minutes. A guy can have his oxygen levels drop 100% but he
doesn’t know it. After half an hour he goes numb.
Saddles with splits or holes may make matters worse because they have
smaller surface areas, and hence the rider’s weight presses harder on less
saddle. The arteries in the perineum run laterally and therefore they come
under more pressure when they come into contact with the cutouts’ edges. It is
no longer a question of whether or not traditional bike saddles causes ED, but
what are you going to do about it?”
Damage by the process of accumulation is the issue, and the reason why most of our male Spongy Wonder Noseless Bike Seat Riders are over 50, and why most of our female Spongy Wonder Noseless Bike Seat Riders are 35+. It is also why the vast majority of saddle reviews are done by guys and gals 25 – 30 years of age. With them it is always
‘The Next Great Saddle.’ And so you get to spend another $150 – $400 and wreck
yourself for yet another season. We hate to ask, but “How many ‘Next Great Saddles’ have
you bought so far?”

The mobile phone also doubles as a wallet for contactless payments! Especially during these times.
i have 3 numbers on my left gear and 8 numbers on my right gear.. first question is how many speeds is my bike? secondly, i really have no idea how or when to shift gears.. sometimes i shift and my chain makes the craziest noise.. so is the idea, when going up hill my left gear should be in 1 and my right gear should be in a low gear too? like 2 or 3? god somebody please help me lol
I personally prefer these kinds of videos from Manon, she seems better suited to the style of these videos. Whereas Oli is out and out made for the role of GCN Tech show presenter.
But are you supplying any wide fitting at size 13″? Why do so many companies only supply up to size 12″?
Do you ever get lost? And then discover no mobile phone service, so you cant view a map on your phone. There is a solution. Google Offline Maps lets you download a large area map to your mobile.
Male-related question: In cycling shorts, how should I situate my “self” so that I don’t make other people uncomfortable when I’m standing and talking with them? I feel positively naked in cycling shorts.
I am sorry guys, but you two demonstrate precisely why I ride solo!
I’ve gotten away with wearing cheapos for 1-2hr rides. Anything beyond that I’ll usually jump in my mid-tier kit. It really depends on how you’re riding and how well your saddle fits you!
i put my beach cruiser seat on my road bike now it’s a joy to ride the cruiser seat actually has shock absorbing springs why do they make those skinny ass seats trying to cause us ass cancer
Saitama got that strong because he did all this exhausting training, making him break his limiter and becoming invincible
i ride solo virtually all the time but with all the chitter chatter going on in my head who needs a group:-)
I prefer solo riding. I prefer to go around 1 or 2 in the morning because it’s so surreal the quiet and it’s therapeutic. I’ll stop by a park or school sometimes and just hop on a swing for 10 minutes and enjoy the peace. People think it’s nuts going so late but getting away from the chaos of everyday interactions does wonders for me and I always sleep amazing afterwards. Try it out!
I definitely ride solo. I decided everything with compromises between me and me
I ride solo most of the time…it’s my time…just me, my thoughts and the road.
I prefer solo since the kids dictate my schedule and I’m often late or too early. Another tip is to always bring money cash and card just in case.
This video assumes a person knows more about riding a multi-gear bike than she does. Much of this information was not as helpful as hoped. One still doesn’t understand what cross chaining is or what one should look out for to stop doing it, and there was no discussion about going down hills nor any specifics about using the gears. More instruction is now needed at a much more basic level to understand what was in this video. This was a very quick overview of information without better details and additional instruction.
I switched to bib shorts in 1995, since then I can’t ride on shorts, I can’t! I was able to buy on eBay, bit shorts for $110 wich normally cost $200+…..oh boy they’re amazing.
I’ve gone from bodybuilding to cycling, my gears aren’t lined up, cycling clothes are made for stick insects, my ass hurts, I don’t know what all the pedal clips are, and you need to be a millionaire to ride around annoying car users. Help!
That’s why saitama overcome all of this and get stronger when he train he even said he heard some of his bones are cracking while training but still he overcome it and became the world strongest man
why does he have tae kwon do written in a strange font on his back
The point of riding solo is disconnecting from nagging wives, work and well all people but you promote a million devices that instantly connected to home ♂️
Before I used swimming trunks. ♀️ Good thing, I already use padded cycling shorts now. (and not using brief anymore)
Lol I’m good with my gym shorts and old t-shirts. Went to get some riding gear the other day, the shirt was over $100 and the shorts were like $60 ha! No thanks
All theory, no vision. Why don’t they actually show how it works on the wheels. Also how it works on the handlebars?
Doctor: to get this power the cost is your hair
Me: heck yeah I’m doing this
The one thing most of the too polite folk on here are not saying is there are simply too many wankers involved in group rides for most of your average cyclists to be bothered with. Arrogant, competitive and half the reason other road users hate cyclists.
Yep, it’s a generalisation but it’s a fair one…..
forgetting my saddle bag is a thing I have never forgotten. im not hyped to wait hours while trying to get a family or friend to come get me if there off doing stuff so its always a check before the rides
Believe it or not, more effective than chamois cream is Dettol Antiseptic Cream. Keeps you fresh and odor-free, no irritation and no pain.
I am not getting them at all is it only me out they are explaining it in a difficult way.
Great insights. Just got a MTB this week and by watching this video i could spot so many mistakes i made in the past 3 days especially with Gear changes on uphill and down hill. Thanks for this video.
so…. hills higher gear? flat low gear?? or do I have it backwards ha-ha
Where do I get the pillows with Union Jack on it? Will one with a Finnish flag work as well?
Aqui está o comentário BR que você procura.
Passa no meu canal.
GCN you’ve done so well getting these two as new presenters, they are awesome!
Way back when…. we called the cassette ” the cluster ” ( 70’s)
The first speaker voice i thought like he is a woman until i found out she is a woman
Always solo for me. Set my own pace, my own route, my own schedule. No music, no chatting, just time to think (or not) and enjoy the ride.
If I’m changing gear on the drive gear I often change the cassette gear at the same time. A change of drive gear has such a big effect on the resistance and changing the cassette gear at same time can alleviate this (both big levers for harder drive/easier cassette, or both small levers at the same time for easier drive/harder cassette). Is this bad practice?
I used to Walk every Sunday, I Walked more than 10Km, one sunday I reach the 15Km, and it was so beautiful.
Men at least can just pull the front of the bib shorts down for a frontal “comfort break”. God help you if you have to do the other one.
The feeling of freedom when I’m out on my own makes me prefer riding solo. A great way to clear your head and relax. Planning when to ride and how far and making (a part) of the training as hard or easy as you like are side benefits:)

just start cycling, i hope this butt pain is the same when your first time learning guitar
Solo for me. It gives me the chance to relax, even if my heart rate is about a 145 average. Also, I once read that solo cycling allows you to think of everything and nothing just about sums it up nicely.
I am just here for the Presenter, everything else what she said just went over my head
What do you do if the mechanism to change from your small chain to the big chain doesn’t work?
Cycling shorts are great and all, but one thing that drives me fucking crazy is that size charts are always shifted from reality, the shorts always end up too small on my body even though the size chart says it should fit perfectly.
I have ridden mostly solo over the years so I’m looking forward to group riding again. Solo riding will still be my core activity though.
For many years i was member of a cycling club in Scotland and went on the Sunday group runs which I enjoyed great bunch of people and always a cafe stop. The only drawback being either struggling to keep up or waiting for the slow ones at the top of hills depending on which group I rode with. I retired and move to Lincolnshire and only cycle solo now even thought there is club 10 miles away. I love the serenity of riding in a quiet county and in particular in the Wolds. I read an article some time ago that cycling for men is a form of meditation and I fully agree with that. A time be away from people and think.
Cycling shorts, yes. Bib shorts, no. I was watching to see if there is anything reason I should get bib shorts over regular Cycling shorts but being a female and not having the issues with my regular Cycling shorts that were mentioned, the ease of being able to make a nature break trump anything bib shorts could bring me.
there is one time i choose to go left instead of right. Then i lost for 4 hours searching my way back without a gps or map
I bet you’d eaten half of that cake before the browser had fired up!
Are push ups really that bad? I need to be able to do 50 in a row for basic army selection so does it matter if I just do them every two days for practice?
What do you think? Are bib shorts worth it? Let us know in the comments!
What is considered slow, medium and fast (on average) for a slightly overweight man in late 50’s? 10km (slow) 15km (medium) 20+km (fast)?
I am in hospital watching you everyday and can’t wait until I hit the road again
Solo positives: No Hanks making jokes, taking group selfies, half-wheeling…
