and let me tell you that there is a oatmeal diet that works without interminent fasting and it consist to eat 3 times a day oatmeal basically oat exclusive all day. and people do lose weight. is oatmeal a high starch food? its poor in calories for 1/2 cup its 158 calories and it feels you with the fibers but has 27g of carbs in it…. is it me or people make carbs sound like its a big deal???
I believe in using diet as a noun, and not a verb. I will say, though, that people who can’t be active need to watch both their calorie intake, as well as their carbs. This can be an important factor. If you are eating, and not exercising, the food will go to weight. I see this in many older folks.The folks I have worked with also need to be cautioned about portion control. Sure, many foods are healthy, but not if you over eat them.

I remember when I first got recommended this video I was in school and my (now ex-)boyfriend saw it and said something about the fact that it might actually help me but, the way he phrased it he may as well have said “Stop eating so much you’re fat!”. When I go to school I have 2 pieces of toast for breakfast, a pack lunch (containing 2 sandwiches (2 pieces of bread then cut in half when sandwiched) a packet of crisps, a small smoothie, a yoghurt and a chocolate bar) and then whatever my mum makes for dinner. Also, I am told by my mum that I’m not fat, my brother calls me a “Fat cow” and my dad only really makes weight comments about my mum and telling my brother that he isn’t fat. I’m now having words constantly ringing in my ears, screaming at me telling me I’m fat and ugly.

I’ve seen this touched on in the comments already, and I think people have brought up the valid point that there is a difference between unsustainable calorie restriction versus maintaining a sustainable caloric deficit.
It’s unsustainable to live off of <1000 calories/day, so if your weight loss plan relies upon that kind of extreme caloric restriction, eventually you're going to stop. By constrast, if you're eating 2500 calories a day but then realize you need to eat closer to 2300/day in order to reach/maintain your optimum weight range, that is probably sustainable.
I’ve been maintaining a caloric deficit for 9 mos or so, and personally a combination of knowing my ideal caloric limit + not sweating it when I eat more sometimes + not worrying about tracking my calories 100% perfectly has allowed me to lose 25-30 lbs so far without feeling depressed or confined by dietary limitations. I’m perfectly happy eating this way indefinitely.
I hope over time my developing sense of portion size + my growing ability to select healthier, more satiating foods will allow me to maintain a healthy weight without as much number crunching, but calorie counting is helping me reach that long-term goal of a more intuitive eating style while also meeting my shorter-term health needs.

My problem is I am trying to lose 30 lbs and literally it’s sooooo easy for me to overeat calories even on this lifestyle. I have to like recalculate all my intake because I had memorized all the calories for my normal meals with meat and now it’s like adding grains in, you don’t realize how quickly all of this adds up. I can easily reach 500 cal on my morning oats alone and for me, I have to eat super low cal to even see ANY weight loss at all. The struggle is real!!! Literally I have to go hungry to lose any weight. This is after years of trial and error and many diets and research. There are many things you advocate that I agree with, but saying calorie restriction is dangerous or at beast ineffective is a terrible blanket statement. Calorie restriction is the only way to actually lose weight, whether you achieve this by increasing your energy expenditure or eating fewer calories than you usually do. What is dangerous is a drastic reduction in calories consumed, but not a calorie deficit in and of itself. The deficit simply needs to be small and evolve with your changing exercice routine (because you should move no matter what you want to achieve, as it is essential for human health). Yes, it will take time, but that’s how it works. Of course, if you put on muscle, you might not feel like you’re restricting in any way because your resting energy expenditure will be higher, which you won’t even notice!
The other thing I don’t agree with is the breakfast statement. If by it you mean that your first meal of the day should fuel you properly and make you feel satiated for several hours, yes, absolutely, but if you mean the general meal we eat in the morning, then no, it is not absolutely necessary (unless you’re a child, going to school, or in some other specific instances). Healthy individuals don’t need to eat in the morning if they’re not hungry for several hours after waking up. If you are hungry, eat, and obiously, something you like and that will make you feel satiated for a while, but if you’re not hungry, don’t eat! Breakfast in the common, traditional sense is not essential.

I’m not insecure about myself, I love my body but I want to be healthy and wear the clothes I want and look like the goddamn queen I am. I have nice curves but my thighs make it a lot harder for me to find pants that actually look good on me and make me feel confident. You mention adding half a banana to a smoothie being wiser than using oatmilk. Do you consider that to be OK then, considering that we’re supposed to avoid carby/sugary foods, especially in the presence of fat and particularly when breaking a fast (according to both you and Thomas DeLauer). I like banana in my smoothie but I don’t have to have it and especially not if it’s going to derail all of my progress. I know underripe bananas are a good source of prebioitics, so should we stick to no more than half of a greener banana and will that be ok, as long as the rest of the smoothie is primarily protein and fat?

I’m shifting between fasting 20:4 weekdays, 16:8 weekends. When I break my fast I try to do so with a meal of mainly protein (eggs, maybe some salmon or ham). On average I eat about 900 calories per day (never more than 1200, sometimes as little as 600).

I have been studying multiple “Professionals” about the topic of “Fasting” Intermittent and alternating days and everything in between. Of course there are a few adjustments that have to be made to each of them because of their particular “Fasting” lengths of time. I see some drastic difference between these individuals including yourself on what they suggest you should be eating as your first meal or your “Break-Fast” Meal (I don;t understand why individuals continue to say that when you fast you are simple skipping breakfast because you’re not. Whatever time you decide to have your first meal after a “Fast” is called “BREAK-Fast” This really confuses a lot of people). Some say to eat food with Carbs that with spike your insulin causing while others say its the worst thing you could do. Others say to eat a very small 200-300 Calorie meal made up of mostly protein and a little good fat to introduce food back into you digestive system and kick-start your metabolism in a safe and healthy way so that you are primed and ready to eat your first “Big” Meal of the day during your “Eating Window”, and others say they only eat (2) meals during their “Eating Window” which would have to put those meals at like 700-850+ Calories each just to get enough nutrition and food to not go into starvation mode and store. I totally get that everything needs balance and to many calories are not good and to few calories are not good either. In order to burn optimal stored fat you need to eat enough calories to keep your metabolism up but just under what you RMR (BMR) happens to be If you can’t achieve that then you will never see any results. Is their a difference between tricking your body during fasting to burn stored body fat for energy during Intermittent or alternating fasting days and just your normal every day healthy clean eating, smaller well rounded, macro watching days. If I intake the same 1700-1800 Calories, all the same food and portions but instead of only eating them all during an (8) Hour window, I consumed smaller portions in a (12) Hour Window why would I not get the same results or even better. I continue to feed the furnace but in smaller portions requiring my body to breakdown what I ate and use it for energy but because the meal was smaller and my metabolism is kicked into high gear it it has burned through what I ate and begins searching for fuel somewhere else. I would assume that at this point my body releases stored fat to be burnt for energy. Here is the thing. Just as my metabolism starts to wind down again I am feeding the furnace another small meal and we are now back to square one again and running on all cylinders. I may be missing something but I am not really sure how both of these are able to work to achieve the same goal. I ask these thing because during this whole Covid19 thing I thought it would be a great idea to re adjust my eating habits especially since most of us were stuck inside and at home. I started Thomas Delauer’s Intermittent Fasting (90) Day Program. There are (3) Phases to his program and he gives it to you all laid out. Eating Days and Fasting Days. The “Eating Window” of (8) Hours is yours to choose based on your schedule. He also gives you some selections and portions of what to eat to Break your fast an then through out the day some meal plans to help make it easier. I really stuck to his meal plans or adjusted them slightly here and there to keep it a little different but never changing his over all Macros or Calories. All in all my overall calorie count came out to be about 1500 on average during my eating Window. I had my very small “Break-Fast” Meal of about 250 Calories and then my net meal about an hour later which was my highest calorie meal around (500) and then I usually split the other (2) meals evenly about (375) each or so rounding me out to between 1500-1600 total for the day which seems pretty good based on a Calorie in Calorie out theory as well as my RMB (BMR) being around 1950 Calories. I felt that was a good deficit especially if I got in a little bike ride and some walks or light runs. I was 6 weeks into his program and could not understand why I felt like I was getting fatter. I weighed myself at the start and then again at the 6 week mark and I had gained 22lbs and looked horrible when I should have lost 15-20lbs. I have been frantically researching the reasoning for this and have come up with a few different possibilities. For a about the last year I worked in at a job where I wasn’t as active and barely ate (1) meal a day. Most days were under (1000) Calories and when I did eat it was always healthy. I enjoyed my Coffee and creamer in the morning to keep me going but that only had around 70 Calories of Creamer. However I did enjoy a Rockstar a couple times a week and then of course (1) Unhealthy Meal a day. Some of my research on Youtube and other blogs have state that because I restricted my calorie intake for so long my body reset its RMR or BMR to between 1000-1200 Calories and when that happens if you don’t add your calories slowly when you change you diet or lifestyle you could gain a lot of weight because you eating to many calories. During your study and you stated you have a Masters which mean you did a lot of it. Id this possible and or have you ever come across this issue with anyone else. I completely stopped Fasting and went back to basics of how I was eating while in High School and College for sports just smaller portions because I am not in my 20’s any more. I have my calories set at 1700 I usually eat (4) Meals a Day. Breakfast around 10:00 Either Eggs and Meat or High Protein Oatmeal with apples and cinnamon and Almond Milk. Then some sort of Wrap with lots of Veggies and Turkey and a small amount of Cheese. Then I will an Isolate Protein Shake (no Carbs, No Fat) Then Both late after noon and early evening meals are usually 4oz of Chicken and or Ground Turkey and either Green Beans or Broccoli. I feel fine however sometime on my workout days I will get a little headache in the evening before bed so I will have one more shake but I try not to even though it is only (115) Calories. I figure I did burn more calories on those days so once in while to curb the headache before bed it works I have not gained a pound in (2) weeks and in fact I am down (5lbs) Could you possibly help explain why my first try at a (16/8) Intermittent Fasting Program failed me so much. I hear all these great things but I am afraid to try it again as I am still 50+ lbs away from my Goal. I am currently 5’9 and weigh 245lbs. When I look in the mirror I am wondering how I can be 50+lbs overweight as I see friends who are similar in Height, weigh 220lbs and look drastically fatter then me. Could their be something else going on and if so what are your thoughts and what would you recommend I do to continue on this weight loss journey. This being overweight is kinda new to me in the last couple years and I want o get it under control.
My girl used naturekindness .com for sometime and it really helped her lose some inches. She also used to run every morning for 30-40mins. Never seen her being so confident. Really proud of her.

Is there a way to lower my daiky sugar intake? I’m 41 yrs old and I eat healthy for the most part, fruits and veg daily, plenty of water, no soda or juices, no pasta, rice, potato etc. I eat chicken, fish and occasionally red meat. I’ve been breaking my fast with a cup of cheerios every morning (practically every morning), is this a good option? it’s been working so far, I’ve been losing some weight.
I stop eating between 6-7pm every night. I wake up between 5-7am every morning (2 kiddos lol).
I will have a cup of coffee in the AM. Generally, my cup of coffee is 10-12oz and I’ll add liquid stevia and 3TBS of caramel premier protein.

I also drink a lot of water!! I try and fill my 32oz yeti at least 2x a day. After having kiddos, my bladder is shot and I constantly have to use the restroom. If I drink more than 64oz, it becomes unbearable with how much I go to the bathroom. Super annoying!!
I’d would love to see the scale shift more. I’m 32, 65 inches tall and 145lbs. I never workout. I’m a stay-at-home/homeschooling momma and I’m insanely busy. Sometimes I try and get in one of the quick HIIT workouts that I’ve found here on YouTube but that’s maybe 2x a week.

yesterday i would’ve been a pescatarian for a year but i’ve been eating vegan for 4 days now after watching earthlings. the problem is that i don’t know what to eat because i’m the only person that’s vegan in my family and i’m so much triggered. When i would be hungry as a pescatarian i would usually just eat bread with cheese or cookies or candy bars or something like that. But know, in these last four days, i can’t do that or just don’t want that. the only thing i’ve been eating for the last tree days are apples, noodles with ketchup, bananas and carrots. i feel pretty hungry all the time because literally, we don’t have that much vegetables since i almost ate all the carrots (1.5 kg) in four days. I guess it must me a combination of having a plan and don’t overthinking stuff….start slowly by improving the variety and selection of food alternatives and worry less about quantity….Then as you get a stable diet, start measuring calories and finetuning certain aspects. In general, make it easier for yourself to prepare and eat, but be strict on that programme you follow; you have to test it properly to see how it works for you and what changes you might need to make.

I very much disagree with no supplementation (other then protein)! Most folks that aren’t cutting calories aren’t hitting their nutritional requirements in a day. When you add vigorous exercise, you deplete additional nutrients from your body. At the very very least, add a multivitamin into your routine.
Protein chef I have got to say that your tips and enthusiasm has really helped me with my progress. I’ve gained 40 pounds and lost my muscle and strength in college and have now recently gone back to my old routine but tackling a healthier lifestyle. I’ve been vegan for 33 years. I do inject B12 weekly, but I found out years ago that it’s just pernicious anemia. As a nurse practitioner however, I think everyone who is vegan needs to be tested. Very often the sublingual tablets of B12 are not adequate. I encourage people to get tested. I eat a lot of fruit! Yummy.
Two yr ago I decided to rewire my mindset and began more of a vegetarian lifestyle. Now, I am well equipped with resetting my mindset often and have gone on several lifestyle nutritional changes to align with my fitness goals. This year, I desire to push myself to engage in a fulltime wholesome “greens” perspective as a way of environmental and animal awareness journey. Week 2 and so far I am feeling regulated and energetic. I intend to do this for the next 2+ weeks.
First mistake: trying to go vegan. You need to do it because you deeply believe in it. Indoctrinate yourself to the point where you cannot be moved from your commitment even as you lose your period, your mind becomes muddled, your skin revolts, etc. Just call any health issues you have as part of detoxing. Remember, you are saving the world! So says this ex-vegan.

I recently went plant based but not cause I care about the animals that die. I’m trying it to see how my body reacts and my results in the weight room increase. I’m going to give it 90 days to see how I feel. Time will tell! I will say this I like how my muscles look but I do feel my body crashes and I feel weak. I’m eating a lot but still feel like that. FYI I already ate a healthy diet so eating healthy is already a part of who I am. So I’m glad to run across your video. I just want to be real I don’t think there is anything wrong with humans eating meat! Shit I love meat I just think this is a good tool for a healthy life.
I’ve been eating vegan now for almost 2 months. I gave up four legged animals about 4 years ago but continued on eating poultry and seafood. I’m doing this for health reasons as I find that dairy is really making me ill. So I’m like…heck why not go all the way?! Seafood is really what I miss the most and of course the desserts! But it’s not as bad now since I love to cook and bake, and am discovering all kinds of ways to “veganize” a lot of my favorite dishes. My main issue and why I’m commenting is the lifestyle outside the food. I’ve gotten so many backlash on people saying I’m not vegan since I love my leather goods etc. If I’m being honest, I don’t think I can give that up. A lot of my stuff are luxury items and despite of appearing vain and insensitive, I really do not want to give them up! Thoughts???
I think a very important aspect of being a clean eating vegan is.. how can I switch my dog to a vegan diet? I don’t like touching meats physically but it seems impossible to convert my 15 yr. old dog to eat plant/legume based.

I’m not sure animal product copies is a good idea. Trying to go vegan, the feel of meat may deter your progress. It keeps you from learning to enjoy the taste, and feel of plant based
There is no solution for mistake number 1.. if that’s your reason, you were destined to quit before you started. Educating will probably make you not do it. That’s a dead end if that’s why you started
Hated the taste of meat, never liked honey, never had an egg on its own before. There’s plant based “dairy” to help me with the change. Only struggle for me was finding vegan desserts.
I love how open you are! I’m trying to go vegan (currently vegetarian) and I find a lot of vegan’s online are so judgemental, it’s a real turn off.

I went pescatarian then vegetarian and I am slowly going vegan this school year marks me starting that. I have a casen allergy and lactose intolerance so I found doing what I did easiest for me. My mom still thinks I’m gonna die though from not eating meat.

If you are going to take supplements, go with ones that will help you to recover from workouts, and they are good for overall health. Magnesium, Zinc, Calcium, Omega 3, Vitamin C and D3. With all of these I take creatine and that’s that:D
On a serious note, after introducing Mg, Zinc and Omega 3 I am a lot less sore and soreness goes away faster. So, food for thought:)

Hello I have some questions about going vegetarian/ vegan
At first I’d like to switch to vegetarian, to give my body a chance to addapt.
Please I’m worried, if anyone could answer me I’ll be so happy
Do i need to count nutrients or proteins or B12 supplement or sth? What should I be aware of when eating vegetarian way?
I’m mainly worried to do this cause of:
1. I won’t have enough nutrients, B12 etc.. I don’t really know how to count these things, which food is high on what etc I think it would be hard for me to know and get enough of everything i need
2. Therefore I’m worried if I won’t be sick/ ill or something bad with my health
3. Money. I’m scared of buying everyhting myself in my meat eaters family. I know they won’t support me, so I’m really worried that I won’t be able to buy vegan expensive food. Or is it just myth that vegan food is expensive?
4. Also if could anyone tell me what should I eat in a day as a vegetarian and as a vegan as well. How many nutrients, proteins and everything? It’d be really helpful to know how a right fullfiling vegetarian/ vegan diet day looks like:)

I went vegan over night and it’s going great. I had been eating whole foods for so long that I was able to skip the replacements
Can you please do content on environmental and animal damage in the manufacture of vitamins B12 and other supplements that have no efficacy as a food supplement? I tried vego aiming for vegan. Didn’t absorb iron and B12. Gene apparently. Drs told me eating minimum organic grass fed meat, fish and occasional eggs is more effective absorbtion and doesn’t damage the earth or animals (in Australia). I’ve always been regular in everything and tried slow transition. Didn’t work. I still can’t stand cooking red meat so I order out. I hate this but people need to do this W Drs and dieticians.

I am trying to transition to the point of only using processed vegan alternatives a few times a week. My stomach is very bloated so far but i have done this before and energy will come in the long term

You should also think about iron deficiency! I experienced is myself at the very beginning of my way going vegetarian. I also got misdiagnosed by my doctor at first. Think about your iron intake!
Do you think it’s actually necessary to go to a vegan doctor that makes a meal plan? My mom has been soooo insistent with me about that, I have just started my vegan diet 2 weeks ago, but I have already done my research and I’m having my vitamins and don’t feel tired anymore, I only got some bloating at nights. Also I haven’t been able to find a vegan doctor so I don’t know if I have to keep looking for one or just keep going like this.

I’ve been a vegetarian for about 4 years now for the animals. I’m trying to transition to plant based mostly for my health, but I know I definitely don’t want to contribute to the animals suffering. I’m often very tired, gained 20 pounds in the last year, and I really want to improve my health overall. I want to lose those extra 20 pounds of course, but I really want to do it in a healthy way and do it right. When I weighed my normal weight I restricted my calories too much at times, was always tired, exercised but hated it, and was very anxious about my weight and couldn’t see that I wasn’t chubby like I thought I was. I think it’s important I did gain this weight because now I see I was at a normal healthy weight and when I weigh that again I’ll actually appreciate my body and also because I don’t feel good and I’m now at the point where I want to change for my health and to feel good, not just how I look. I’m still worried about calories though. I’m 4’11” so I don’t require as many especially to lose weight and I’m just not sure how to eat plant based and count calories or if I should count them at all. I always ate out of packages with calorie labels so it was easy to count them. Should I count my calories or just eat intuitively so I don’t feel restricted and hope I lose/don’t gain weight? x
