Good video coach Morgan, yeah that’s true about getting use to rainy conditions, teaches you to get the right shoes gear for all weathers, I enjoy the odd times running in rainy cold, but not all the time, don’t think it’s any good to be hammering & torturing the body higher chance of injury, I think best thing for people training for first marathon is just concentrate on finishing the half marathon don’t worry about time, that’s true about start out slow, but I have to say, my best time I got in a half marathon was last year, took off fast as I could at the beginning & did my best time, but did a really good warm up before the race started
I think this show never glorify suicide ( it showed suicide is terrible, suicide made nothing better, suicide ended a beautiful person’s life which deserved to be lived, and made other people are suffered ) However it showed that, how a tiniest abuse can be so dangerous in the end, all bullying by peers can make an such terrible ending if someone has not a good mental health and can’t get help..I wish Hannah would survive, could fight, she deserved to live. I think it showed that education and justice system take action more before it’s too late for everything. Because everyone’s life is worth living and suicide is never can be a solution.

There is no evidence at all for what you say around 6:30. If you don’t eat after a run your body is not going to cannibalize muscle protein. Muscle consumption happens in late stage starvation (i.e., no food for days or weeks). What is true is that if you fail to eat properly and run a lot, it will be impossible to build new muscle.

You didn’t train or eat properly at all. If you did, you wouldn’t be wasting muscle. I’ve been in your shoes when I was a new runner. I’m sorry the bad experience turned you away. I can assure you that you can definitely be muscular and have the physique you’re after while running. You just have to know what you’re doing. It takes years of experience. It’s a skill, not a talent. Also, every sport is going to have its downside. Don’t give up!

Nutrition is key for everything. One of the big benefits I found from running is the need to look after my nutrition. If you get that right, then everything can be right. But get it wrong and you’ll only go so far before it all falls apart as you discovered.
I would encourage you to get back into running, and this time do it right. Take what you have learned, learn from others, and start running again with the goal of being able to run consistently for the rest of your life. Take it slow, take it easy and gradually build up the distance and intensity.
If you want to bulk up your legs, you need to lift heavy really heavy.
Sort out your running form, make sure you’re doing it right at short distances, and then it will be all right at longer distances.
I started running only two years ago, now I run 20kms before breakfast each weekday, with a longer run (30-45kms) on Saturday. I’m 53 years old and I’m competing in my 6th ultra marathon in two days time the HRT 60km. Yes it hurts 😉
So don’t give up on running, or yourself. Try again, but this time be smarter about how you train and how you fuel yourself. You never know where you’ll end up 😉

the RICE method is for when you get a sprain!!! You had no idea about running and you did not work on your muscles, cuads, calfs.. You wanted big butt and you decided to run 20 KM. gosh, you were no wy prepared and you just ran and nothing else. That is why you got to that destroying your ligaments and knees.

I agree 100%. Especially since u were trying to gain a bigger butt & thighs. Long distance running is counter productive for that. I’d have u focus on weight lifting, diet & cardio in the gym.
Just to try to help!! That patello femoral syndrome… You either had to strech more… or you increased your mileage to soon. Not really trying to bring you back running or anything, just letting everyone know’s that they are your mistakes, not running’s… Because injuries you can get them from everywhere… (not a hate comment, btw)
I’ve started doing HIIT workouts and enjoy it. I’m trying to slim down on my stomach but I don’t see too much of a difference there. Would you recommend running for that?

I went through the similar process you are describing. I was racing hard during one season and I achieved certain level but I wasnt feeling good and I also developed patella femoral syndrome. I had a break 2-3 years when I totally abandoned sport and thought I am never going to run again. I certainly wasnt feeling good physicaly during those years and I was even depressed because of it. Finally I started to do a research for some solution to feel better. I found some excercise routines and it gradualy started feel better. Its about muscles and their balance and you shouldnt just run but also stretch sometime and excercise various muscle groups especially quads and hamstrings. It took couple of years and lot of effort but Im now in maybe better shape than ever before. Because I used to routinely excercise a lot Im back to racing again to find my limits but now I now that in order to stay healthy you need to listen to your body and not just run. Compensate with some other sport like swiming, cycling, hiking etc. Wish you luck being out of shape sucks.

HAIL YEAH! I love you dude. Thank god you could get real with this because there is such a misconception that running makes you super strong and athletic. There’s so much more that us who like to lift and do conditioning workouts, have to do to get the bodies we want. Hopefully that makes sense. And also I feel like this will show young girls who want to lose weight that starving yourself or not eating a lot and running isn’t going to get them what they need necessarily. Great vid dude!

When I ran my first marathon I felt that 5k was tougher. More because the 3.1 miles was something I felt I could “sprint” per se and I knew I could go slower and pace myself in the marathon. I still struggle with the 5k pacing.
Running killed my knees and shins. I prefer elliptical and stair stepper for me.

I’m doing my 3rd HM tomorrow. I don’t really train for it but i am a regular runner and cyclist, running a 5 Km every saturday, a few shorter runs (3 kms) during the week and an monthly 10 Km. Together with 100 Km cycle 3/4 gym visits and a few miles swimming per month, it seems to be enough to have the background stamina. I hope to do under 2 hours tomorrow.

If you run you need to be lifting weights at least 3 or 4 days a week. I could only run half a mile before I started weightlifting, to running 5 miles a day, lifting (imo) is more important than running for overall health and wellbeing, plus it burns more calories.

I’m a wildfire fire fighter so I have to have good cardio or I would die from carrying hoses and pumps in the heat, also a good diet since camp food is free lol
Exercise generally is perceived by society as something that has to be painful, or unpleasant, and if it isn’t that, then you’re not doing enough. It’s not something you’re supposed to enjoy. “Biggest Loser” and Jillian Michaels comes to mind. Breaking away from that societal narrative was huge for me, and it was when I stopped doing cardio and transitioned to a bodybuilding style of exercise. Would you say that was true for you too, during your half marathon training?

5Ks races are all out effort 90 to 95% VO2 Max. This is utilizing the unaerobic system which is a recipe for disaster in racing 13.1 miles. I think a better title is “essentials for Half Marathon training” because all she mentioned are important to have a successful training and racing. ✌️
Put me in coach. I did my 20 miles a couple weeks ago, not too bad at all I was right at 3 hours with a pace of 175 spm. Now adding road cycling to keep myself from Injury of all the impact on the joints. I did 20 miles on the bike yesterday.
My half feels hard but comfortable. 5k is a horrible distance that hurts the whole way! I’d rather not feel that for 80 minutes thanks
Btw, idk why i am here, but I am a dude. I started running and was very skinny, but now my legs are hella thick (not necessarily a good thing for me), and I never got knee pain. Now I do about 30 miles per week and I am going to continue running, but everyone is different…

Sorry, but all of your reasons for not running have more to do with your half-assing your training. All of which could have been corrected ( stretching, eating properly, etc..). You also were not running for the right reasons. Runners enjoy the running alone and don’t necessarily do it for body shaping.
Good advice. I’ve just started a half plan and I will now be paying closer attention to identifying injury and practicing positivity so I can draw on that during the event. Discipline is great, but that’s usually just fed by my pride and stubbornness 😉

Learned the hard way last year that too much cardio and not enough proper nutrition will result in muscle loss during my cut. Lost 90% of the fat but also 20% of the muscle I gained. It’s all about finding the right balance.

I think discipline is absolutely necessary too. I tend to go hard and far in my runs coz I’d feel energized and excited even tho I need to keep it easy and simple.
Now how to make my 50 k feel like a 5k ❤️ love your tips though I’m getting ready to run my 50 th marathon and after that my 18 th 50k in 12 years as soon as covid 19 crap stops and races can resume I have no desire to run my 50th marathon virtually that’s for sure..
5k’s can be nasty, as many people go harder on the shorter distances. Nonetheless, good video!
